took a good nap earlier, took my dogs out for a short walk, and now i'm gonna spend some time working on finishing up a short fic before doing the accompanying sketch/illustration/whatever

#there's also a chapter 2 i started writing #but i'm telling myself finish these first and then do part 2 #reread the translation of ggbegin and got an idea that picks up between chapters 5 and 6 #also mixing ideas from the in-game glossary sign and recap manga #once it's done i'll post it #unless someone's interested in reading what i've written so far

This is an ask blog that replies to asks with drawings kind of like a one-sided illustrative roleplay deal. I haven't done any kind of RP since about 2004 and have no idea what any of the specific terminology means. Making this up as I go!! Also dunno how long I'll feel like doing this for but I won't know until I give it a shot.

Please keep ask prompts kinda short. I don't have much free time to answer these.

Asks can be targeted at a specific era (Order Sol, Xrd Sol, post-Strive Sol, etc.) but early Strive-era Sol, when he still has the Flame of Corruption, will be the default.

Asks can have mature themes but please remember a real person has to read these lol. Keep it civil.

Ship-based questions are fine. I like Sol with Axl and/or Jack-O' but I'm open to other pairings. Except...

...I won't draw any ship art of Sol with Sin, Elphelt, Ram, Dizzy, or Ky.

Oooh, I have not! So far I've only read the first couple of chapters, so this is absolutely going to motivate me to read the rest! I'm legitimately so grateful that people put in the time and effort to translate the darn thing, feels like it's kinda important to the series overall, giving the backstory we've been waiting 20 years for, seems like people would want to read it. I know it's a Japanese series, but still, if they bothered with translating the catch-up comic...

The power is back on but a tree fell and somehow took out both the internet lines and the pump house for the water so we're not going to have either for so long they couldn't even give an ETA.

Begin still needs some last minute touches before I post it but I can't compile the posts/doc without internet anyway. It might have to be delayed until tomorrow if the internet doesn't come back in the next couple hours or so.

GG Begin delayed until Friday

Hey everyone! I’m sorry, but Begin’s post date is going to be pushed back until tomorrow (June 3rd). With my internet having been out for so long and some other things that have come up, it doesn’t make sense for the proofreaders and myself to push ourselves to get it out today when one more day will ensure the overall quality of the translation is higher.

Just a little Begin update since it’s been a while: 

The English translation is done and the formatting is cleaned up too. A few volunteer proofreaders are going through it now to catch anything my sleepy eyes may have missed. I’m still looking into ways to get a pdf of the translation hosted once proofreading is done but I’ll definitely at least post the chapters individually here on my blog for people to read it. 

No deadline or anything for when I’ll be posting it. Since the proofreaders are volunteers and doing this out of the beautiful kindness in their hearts (for free, too), I don’t wanna rush em or anything

I need some feedback on something for Begin, if someone could lend me their thoughts for a moment. 

There’s a character who goes by サージ (saaji). It can be read as Surge, Sarge, or Serge. The wiki has his name down as Sarge and the two other English fan translations have also gone with Sarge (which probably influenced the wiki’s decision), but I don’t feel like that really fits him and am kind of leaning more towards going with Serge. As far as I know, his name hasn’t officially been written out anywhere (like with Viidia and Frederick’s names).

The etymology for Serge also fits with his appearance: a man about forty years old who looks like an English gentleman with a head of slightly gray hair stroked back. Serge is a French name of Roman origin.

Making the change from Sarge to Serge feels awfully bold since it seems almost universally accepted that it is Sarge, but the more I think about it the more I’m convinced it isn’t Sarge. There is a small bit of an argument based on events later in the book that support it being Sarge, except he introduces himself as that and then the narration doesn’t comment at all on any part of his character having a military air, or any of his actions being like that of someone who made it to the rank of sergeant. The rest of the cast in this book all have actual names instead of titles too and I think Frederick or Viidia would have become suspicious of Sarge if he introduced himself with a title instead of with a name.

Got some captions translated!! I’ll toss those in the queue on Monday. There are a few more I wanna try to do this weekend too and I also want to start preparing the files for the Overture Material Collection short stories. 

Still chuggin away on cleaning up Begin. There are a few big important things I still need to finish before June gets here but if I complete them in time I think I’ll comb through Begin once more and then start preparing that for posting too. My Patreon unpauses at the beginning of June so I’d like to try to get Begin out before/around the start of June to keep it from kinda log jamming with my other projects. Though, my June workload will be back to what my workload is usually like and I’m still hesitant to give Begin’s translation an actual deadline just yet.

A demon possessed my body and I finished editing and formatting Begin tonight. It is now ready to be proofread by others. Tomorrow I’ll make another post in the main tag to see if anyone wants to help with that and PM those that have already offered.

Got everything through chapter 3 edited and cleaned up the formatting too. Everything was double spaced up until this point for easier editing so the total page count has decreased a small amount now that it’s a bit more compressed. 86 of 155 pages down. Lunch break and then I’ll start chapter 4. Halfway done!! 

Chapter 4 is pretty big but 5, 6, the epilogue, and afterward are all short. Not ‘get it all done in one day’ short, but short enough that I think I still may finish this before the end of the week. Maybe on Monday at the worst if the little hamster in my brain doesn’t cooperate

Have a shindig to go to today so had to cut work short on Begin but chapter 3 is about halfway edited now. 76 of 163 pages done total. Getting there... 

No teaser this update. It’s getting to the spicy stuff and I don’t wanna spoil any of it.
