hi!
do you like dark fantasy, TTRPGS and homebrews but hate licences, overlong 50-page back stories and rolling dice for every damn thing?
then you should totally check out BIND, the completely free open source RPG
and support our kickstarter would be nice too

Let’s Discuss RHEL’s recent GPL fiasco:
(an opinion piece)
A Software license about freedom is simple:
> lets me freely access the software itself with no specific conditions that must be met for my use to be compliant.
> the software is freely provided either in source form, binary form, or both.
the freedom here is the choice to use or not to use.
RHEL is pretty blatantly ignoring this, fundamental factor of choice, by paywalling the sources. They are not required to do so, but they are the end decider in this case. If you don’t like that, you have the freedom to use something else. No one, not me, not redhat, not even IBM, can take that from you.
i’d argue that either the bsd, the gpl, or the mit are all fine licenses- and only the distributor of the product should be the one allowed to use whichever license they please.
the user should not have a direct say- because it is not their code.
it it’s totally fine to be frustrated with the software that you did not make for whatever reason.
but- it is not okay to harrass the developers to use your specific license for moral reasons that the devs don’t give a hoot about. after all- its their software.
this is why i am an unironic advocate for the WTFPL because people can use whatever they want with my software. no special conditions or restrictions on use or distribution.
i will probably be hated for saying this- but in all honesty- the license wars have always been stupid, and still are.
use whatever. it truly does not matter as long as you are free to choose what software you’re running regardless of license.
to summarize- RHEL definitely is defying the spirit of free software- but there is nothing forcing you to continue using RHEL.
even for corporate customers- i’d argue that redhat isn’t even a good option nor is canonical’s offerings.
because thats how financial organizations work, they don’t care about their product, the quality of the service, or their customers wishes. they care about capital gain, and are willing to be blissfully ignorant of their customer base leaving them. thats fine. if they want to shoot themselves in the foot, you should not feel required to fall down with them.
unfortunately, it seems to be that the larger a company/business/organization gets, the less likely they are to be able to acknowledge the consumer or the worker that upholds their high financial standing.
find something else- if you can.
RHEL seems like a dead-end, and fighting it is effectively yelling into the void.

i have some criticisms for the gnu project
like, a lot of criticisms. there's so many things they do so wrong and are so questionable, it's not even funny. then again, stallman still is part of the foundation, and stallmanisn is suuuper contagious (even i had it for a bit, luckily @raisinware was there to deradicalize me before it was too late <3 <3 <3)
i have a lot to say, but i will just put the top 3 things wrong with gnu and the fsf in this post
so let's start with one of the lesser ones, lgpl. in theory, lgpl should be a lot less restrictive and easier for companies to follow without being forced to open-source their code (i know that for a lot of foss devs that this is a hard pill to swallow, but some software is best left to be closed-source. not everything needs to be foss, and for most commercial software projects, it would be detrimental to have such stuff open-source). well, the lgpl is just the gpl with a shared linking exception, basically making it kinda useless. the lgpl really should've been a stricter mpl-like license. mpl just makes more sense for libraries than gpl does, and making lgpl almost fully compatible with mpl would've helped a lot with mpl-gpl interop. sadly, lgpl is still gpl for the most part, which means that barely anyone uses it (at least compared to gpl)
one of the bigger gripes i have with the gnu project is autotools. i'm not gonna sugarcoat it, autotools is garbage. it generates so much stuff that goes unused due to it being legacy cruft from other proprietary unix clones, and it's a biggger pain in the rear than cmake to set up a project with it and actually make it compile something. i guess it works nicely for compiling software on legacy unix systems, but gnu is not really legacy, as it keeps getting updated. and with how many gnu extensions they already do with their software to the point where there's software that depends on gcc to compile at all, you would assume that they would get rid of all of the legacy cruft that nobody really uses anymore (unless you're runinng it on aix, in which case, you'd go with an older version anyway). this is why a lot of my projects use their own custom autotools-like build system alongside meson, so that way i can accomplish cross-platform compilation while also supporting old unix systems via the posix shell scripts
and now, my biggest problem with gnu: their complete obsession over c90, despite c99 existing and being hundreds of time better (and that's before you consider c11, which is already out of date, and rust). gnu still believes that current year is 1991, and thus still uses c89/c90 in a lot of their projects (which is why their projects are so messy), even projects such as gnulib, which even though it already requires c99, they still write a lot of the library in c90 and even deliberately just avoid using c99 for no reason known to science. i swear, they act like rust programmers do, but instead of a nice and modern language that deserves that attention, it's an ancient piece of crap that nobody except them likes using, that has been replaced by newer versions of the c language and even rust
anyways, that's enough complaining for one post (i did just write a nyt bestselling book above x3). it was nice to release some of the stuff i've had to deal with while creating and maintaining portalinux with my gf. i have more stuff about gnu and the fsf to complain about, but that would be too long, even for tumblr standards x3. so i will probably end up making a video of it on my yt channel whenever i feel comfortable enough with my voice to post :3. if you made it this far, thank you for putting up with so much text, i just really needed to let some steam off :3
i wish you all a good day (or night) :3

What This Project is All About
My first post to this account was detailing what all I hoped to achieve but it was written as, well, a post and that can be hard to quickly tell what the contents are, for many people.
So, for anyone who may have questions, I hope, with Swanye, to create social media which
will never have ad.s
will always be available as a free option, never requiring that you pay for it
will absolutely never collect and sell your data; you will never be the product
will prioritize disability accessibility
is always open-source
requires any who use the source code to make accessible their version as open-source and viewable by anyone
will have tools that allow any instance of the software that you run to administrate and set the rules for your community
will never use an algorithm to modify the order of posts on your dash or try to shoehorn in people you don’t follow into your dash
things like recommendations of people to follow based on hashtags or likes will have an option to turn off or opt-out
any algorithms for such things will be transparent and readable since the project is open-source
namely, attempts to put control of your online presence and your data back into better control of you
I may edit this if I think I’ve forgotten any; but these are definitely the reasons I started making this (and felt there was a need to make it).
There’s absolutely no reason everything you interact with online should be a product with decisions about what happens with your interacts left up to others; the internet – and social media – was supposed to be a way for people to better be able to make connections with other people about the things they love or are passionate about and it was what excited me about the Internet, originally.
I want some of that back; and I think that federated, open-source software can do that.
I always assume that people will just inquire, if curious about something, and that, if I was unclear or confusing in my first post of this account (or this post, right here), people would just inquire about Swanye.
But that can be daunting, especially if you don’t quite understand what the thing is, to begin with.
So, hopefully, this drills right to the heart of what I think Swanye can do; and, if any of that sounds interesting to you, absolutely feel free to ask about it.
Part of this account is not only to detail the features that’re being developed but to answer any questions or possible hopes for an improved Tumblr anyone might have.
I don’t think corporations, usually, actually serve us a product which actually best serves us; so…what if we just cut the corporations out of our social media, entirely?

Linux Vakfı'ından Redis'e açık kaynak alternatif: Valkey
Tumblr media
. kaynak:https://www.theregister.com Read the full article

About that AI code you got…
This could be good (if anyone cares)
If AI art is public domain, that's fine anyone can use it in whole or in part, but CODE used to train their bot will very likely contain code licensed with a GNU Public License, which REQUIRES the containing product to also be GPL… as will be all future code CONTAINING that code!
Have we discovered something brutally effective?!
These days, given copilot etc, increasingly it will be highly unlikely any given piece of code did not contain any AI generates, and therefore itself be GPL, and thus that day approaches when, in this regard at least, Richard Stallman finally wins?
