Can I rant about Victory for a minute?

So we’re watching episode 31. The Dinoforce had spotted Jan in this little Star Wars looking walker robot and they thought it was a new Autobot warrior or something, so they went to Jan’s school to attack it, right?

Well, Star Saber got a message that his son was in trouble, so he met up with Victory Leo to go stop the Dinoforce from hurting the children at the school.

They got there, Star Saber and Victory Leo combined, and they had a fight with Dinoking. But when Dinoking got defeated, they were all laying in a crumpled pile on the ground and Goryu, who for most of the show was mean to his subordinates, stood up and begged Victory Saber to spare his team, saying that he would take the hit to spare them.

Then his team got sad and they got up and stood in front of them, and poor Kakuryu grabbed onto one of Victory Saber’s legs and they begged their leader to run and save himself and let the team fight Victory Saber off.

Victory Saber was so moved by this, he PUT HIS SWORD AWAY and SPARED THEM ALL. But before he left, he told Goryu that he was blessed with a wonderful team and I just. 🥺

Just- Goryu showing that he actually does care about his team and then his team trying to save him for wanting to take the shot for them. They’re so cute and- aahhhhhhhh. 🥹

They were so grateful and Victory Saber just left to go help make sure the kids were alright, and the Dinoforce left with everyone ok. It was seriously heartwarming and my best friend decided she liked Goryu now.

wada sez: My knowledge of Japanese Generation 1 is pretty spotty, but so far as I can tell, this strip is set after/during the Transformers: Zone OVA, in which the planet Feminia is destroyed by the Nine Great Demon Generals of Violengiguar, the "power-blinded emperor” Overlord ruminates on here. It’s intended to be read more-or-less standalone, however. In a comment on deviantART, Carlos Oliveros comments that Overlord is one of his favourite characters and that he thought the character had a lot of wasted potential—obviously, this was before Last Stand of the Wreckers! I’m not quite sure who the yellow guy is in the first panel; all the characters except Overlord are supposedly from Transformers: Victory, but the only yellowish character I can think of is Killbison, and none of the details match up. Colours here are by Liam Shalloo, who did some work for IDW here and there. In addition to the usual preview, an entire cover was drawn for the strip, and a panel pencils/inks/colours breakdown was also shared—see below the break.

What says "Holidays" more than rubbery monsters and dinosaurs? NOTHING, THAT'S WHAT.

December's Patreon-backed @tfwiki picture batch is all up in the PRETENDER MONSTERS and their Takara doppelgangers the DINOFORCE. Micromaster-sized robots that fit into rubbery monster/dino shells, who can also combine into the tiny terrors MONSTRUCTOR and DINOKING!

The original pics were taken over a decade ago (I sold the toys shortly after these were taken), so there's some lighting/focus issues I'm not wild about, but I've done what I could to mitigate. Speaking of mitigation, these toys are NOTORIOUS for their rubbery shells just being... gross. Physically. They sweat oily plasticizer (I bought Dinoking MIB at BotCon 1998 and was washing the slime off them in the hotel sink that very night), and many have discoloration problems, especially the Dinoforce, whose gold paint typically turns a nasty green, and the silver ends up pretty splotchy to boot. Again, I've done what I could to present them as close to intended original deco as possible.

Add onto that two of the Pretender Monsters suffering from Gold Plastic Syndrome (where the gold metal-flake plastic will shatter/crumble with no warning with sometimes-minimal stress), and, well, good luck finding "mint" samples.

Dear Deathsaurus Deducer,

Towards the end of the war, Shockwave had perfected the biogenetic morphing process he’d used upon Grimlock and the other members of the Lightning Strike Coalition, and began mass-producing Dinobots in a specialized facility in Kaon with the help of the remaining members of the Forged cult.

Deathsaurus was one of these cloned warriors, and by far the most terrifying—an enormous fire-breathing spinosaurus twice as large as the original Grimlock, his first action after emerging from his cloning chamber was to eat the two Forged handlers responsible for transporting him to his pen. It took multiple Forged members, thirty Insecticons, and some anti-tank artillery to finally herd him into his paddock, and he became infamous for his many breakouts which always ended in multiple fatalities. A vicious, bullying brute—not so much a warrior as a walking ballistic missile to be aimed at a target—Deathsaurus spent most of his time beating the smaller Dinobots into submission, and soon amassed a “pack” of cowed followers who’d wound up on the wrong end of his infamous berserker rampages: Goryu, Doryu, Gairyu, Kakuryu, Rairyu, and Yokuryu.

When the young Dinobot Clobber staged his famous escape after Shockwave disappeared, Deathsaurus was one of the many Dinobots who attempted to follow him—Clobber and his ilk escaped partly because the few remaining members of the facility poured all of their resources into keeping him under containment. The provisional Autobot government soon had him shipped offworld to a maximum-security facility on Elba, where he is currently kept in stasis lock—it is quite fortunate that he was beyond Cyclonus’s reach during his short-lived reign over Cybertron.
