During pride month, marnie sees the rainbow scarfs Kabu puts on his pokemon and she loves them!!!! She wants to wear one too!!! So naturally, Melony makes marnie her very own rainbow scarf. Even when she’s older she still wears it every pride month when she goes to visit Kabu. He loves it.

Melony always makes rainbow scarves during pride month.

Kabu goes all out on pride month because he was one of Galar’s first openly gay gym leaders and the first official pride parade was held in Motostoke.

He changes the banners in the gym to a rainbow variant of the fire type symbol, he decorates all of his pokemon, the entire city is decked out. Marnie was amazed when she got to see Motostoke during pride month. Kabu called Melony to get her a rainbow scarf. Marnie had hers the next day (and she sent one for Piers since his was old.)

Kabu Story anon once more! With the Holidays over, I'm almost finished with the first chapter of the story! Total crackship but it’s pride month and Kabu deserves a boyfriend..... Kabu x Raihans dad? He doesn’t even realize it’s his dad at first— -gay Kabu anon

Kabu’s just hanging out in his gym and he sees a man around his age walk by and he’s like 👀

Kabu’s much smoother now than he was in the past, so he approaches and they really hit it off. They start dating and things are going well.

Raihan’s dad calls Raihan and is like “hey son, I just thought I should tell you I have a boyfriend now.” And Raihan’s like “cool, I’d love to meet him. Let’s all have dinner some time.”

So Raihan goes to his dad’s place, and who is waiting for him but Fire Type Specialist Gym Leader Kabu, who was a father figure to him already. Raihan is kind of just stunned to see Kabu sitting on his dad’s couch.

Kabu is also frozen. He knew his bf’s son was coming to dinner. Kabu was ready for that, he can handle it. But for some reason it never occurred to him that the man he was dating was the father of Raihan, who he mentored and supported for a long time. Now that he thinks of it, they look nearly identical. How did he miss that?

Raihan’s dad comes out of the kitchen where he was cooking and he’s like “Oh, you two have already met!” He’s not big into the league and the sport of training pokemon, so he didn’t actually know Kabu was a fellow gym leader.

It should be natural, Kabu becoming Raihan’s stepdad, but it’s really weird for some reason. Over time, they get used to it, and they’re all very happy. It was really weird for a second, especially after Raihan’s dad figures out the situation.

At least it’s Kabu. Raihan just wants his dad to be happy. He knows Kabu is a good man and Raihan trusts him to take care of his dad, who has been very sad since the death of Raihan’s mother, which happened when Raihan was very young.

This is possibly the definition of a “rare pair.”

Raihan is bi and he grew up super comfortable in his sexuality because of Kabu being so open in the media about his. When he’s older he thanks Kabu for giving him someone to look up to in that regard. (Gay Kabu anon... also sorry if this sent a ton of times it kept telling me itisnt sending

Kabu was already very open about being gay, and he defended everyone he could. Raihan was raised by a single father who didn’t have a lot of time to spend with him, so ever since he met Kabu during his gym challenge, he looked up to him. It made him comfortable being himself and coming out when he was ready. Of course, there were some scares. Like Piers being publicly outed and all the backlash he got. He admired Kabu even more when he supported Piers.

He thanks Kabu many times. Kabu is just proud that he made such a profound impact on Raihan.

Also, it’s fine. I only got it once.

Anyway, Spikemuth is the perfect place to find pride gear. It was the only place to celebrate pride before Kabu started doing pride parades. And once it became big in the rest of the region, Spikemuth did not slow down.

It seems Kabu forgot about that fact when he stopped frequenting Spikemuth.

Of course, Marnie knew this, and definitely dragged Hop and Bede along to these places so they could look good.

Piers was there with the same awesome gear, but the kids really showed him up, too.

The other gym leaders weren’t mad, but they were a little jealous. Kabu had to swallow his pride (haha) and ask them where they got their stuff. They were, of course, happy to tell him. He came back and spread the news to the others. Spikemuth was really bustling next Pride Month.

Arcanine loves dressing up. Kabu makes him wear a rainbow bandana, and while it’s not his favorite accessory, it’s worth it to wear to see Kabu smile. He gets to go for a lot more walks, too. Kabu likes showing him off.

Obstagoon’s feet are kind of strange, in that there’s like no traction whatsoever. It’s not an issue normally, but polished, hardwood floors are near impossible. 

Piers sometimes feels mean for making Obstagoon slip around on Melony’s floors, which, yes, they’re all hardwood (barefoot in Melony’s house? Don’t even think about it.). However, he also thinks it’s funny and Obstagoon’s too busy getting affection from Melony to care.

Obstagoon has never fallen and hurt himself, but he’s at risk of breaking something, so Piers usually holds him up until Melony and Piers sit down to talk. Obstagoon just kind of slips and slides around behind Piers. It sends Melony into a laughing fit even thinking about it.

Obstagoon’s fur lets him slide really easily on hardwood. Sometimes, when he doesn’t wanna leave Melony’s house, Piers drags him out by the leg. It’s goofy, but this is Obstagoon we’re talking about. When is he not goofy?

The real question is: Which does Melony find funnier? Obstagoon on hardwood floors or just- Shuckle.

One of the only Pokémon that hasn’t gotten attention in this blog is Milos Edlegoss. She will wrap her little cape thing around Marnie like arms and be like “it is alright humans go about your business, I have The Bab. She is Secure.”

You’re so right. How foolish of me to overlook Milo and his team.

Eldegoss isn’t a nurturing pokemon, when it comes to babies. It’s a protector. It’ll cling to the child like “don’t worry humans, I’ll make sure nothing happens to this one.”

Eldegoss thinks it’s tough and terrifying. It will fight valiantly for the babies. It’s a nurturer for plants, not children.

It’s experience with humans are that they need to be protected, as Eldegoss did the same thing for Milo before he got strong enough to defend himself. Eldegoss’s understanding is that humans start out small and weak until they get strong enough to protect themselves, so Eldegoss thinks it needs to protect every little human it finds.

Idk if Eldegoss is female or male, and I’m too lazy to look it up rn.

Gay Kabu anon with one last thing: Kabu and Melony hate the rumours that they’re dating now, but hardcore used to use it to their advantage. If they were out together and a creep approached Melony, Kabu would just slip into “boyfriend mode” and scare him off. Vice versa, if they were in a really intolerant city, Melony would be Kabu’s “girlfriend” and say the news spread rumours that he was gay. They’re still able to do it so fluidly and can still convince everyone they’re dating.

Everyone in the league knows Kabu and Melony are just friends, and in super non-tolerant towns, usually Kabu doesn’t give a fuck. But if it gets to a point that he feels threatened, Melony stands in and protects him, to the point where she’s willing to pretend to date him. Also, people try to flirt with Melony all the time, which sometimes makes her uncomfortable. Kabu usually steps in to defend her.

They’re close. They’re really good friends. Though they’ve never dated, they talked about it a few times. They both agreed that they like each other as friends, but they’re not interested in dating. Also, Kabu once mentioned to Gordie to just “call him dad” and while Melony thought it was funny af, Gordie turned a little green.

Gay Kabu anon.... Kabu offering to host the first pride parade in motostoke and making sure all the young lgbt gym leaders feel safe to come

Kabu is definitely the oldest LGBT gym leader. So when people come out like “we need to represent the LGBT community” he’s like “I’ll do it.” All the LGBT league members are invited to join the parade. They were nervous and reluctant to come out at first, even though some of them had already been outed, but eventually they agree cause it’s Kabu.

It’s a great time. Spirits have never been higher in Galar. The league was worried that a lot of people would stop associating with them, and that sponsors would pull out for this stunt, but if anything, their sponsorships and fans only increased. Especially for the LGBT gym leaders.

It eventually becomes and annual thing that happens in every major city. Even the smaller towns have celebrations. Turns out a lot more of Galar is LGBT than they thought.

I headcanon that Galar is the most progressive region when it comes to LGBT and other things like that. The other regions tend to follow their lead.

Gay Kabu anon to add onto the Piers being outed HC. Ofc Melony is protective of Piers, but so is Gordie. He is very vocal about defending piers to assholes who have mean things to say. Gordie finds out a year later that he’s bi too and piers is probs the first person he comes out to, even before his mom. Piers helps him tell his family

Gordie was super protective of Piers when he was outed, so he saw a lot of people try to insult, and sometimes, attack Piers. When he realized that he was interested in guys as much as he was girls, he was terrified of being treated that way as well. He didn’t really know that Kabu and Melony were also supporting and protecting Piers. He also never really saw Piers as “strong,” unless it’s pokemon, so he’s scared that there would be no one to save him. Especially from his family.

He knows that Piers will accept him, so he makes a trip out of visiting Spikemuth. He stays on Piers’ couch for the night, and in the morning, while Piers is cooking breakfast for Marnie, Gordie and himself. Gordie just kind of stands in the doorway for a moment in silence, before he just blurts out “Piers, I’m bi.” Piers turns to him, gives him this look that Gordie can’t read, and just thinks for a minute. “Are you trying to ask me out?” Gordie goes “No, no, I just need help telling my family. I knew you’d be cool with me, though.” Piers, of course, accepts Gordie, and tries to convince him that Melony will not hate him, maybe even celebrate him.

Gordie is still scared, so Piers goes with him the next day to hang out while Gordie works up the courage to tell his mom first. Piers, of course, has Marnie with her, so to make Gordie feel more safer, he makes Marnie climb into Melony’s lap when he tells her. Melony’s mad, mad that her son didn’t tell her sooner so they could celebrate. She loves her son all the same, and she’s happy that he’s comfortable enough to come to her, and she’s glad he’s finally able to understand himself. She understands why he went to Piers first, and she’s happy he was able to help her son.
