I saw you watched revue starlight!!! I rarely found anyone watching them so allow me to be excited for a while. Tell me, which revue is your favourite? And which girls is your favourite? Do you have a favourite revue song too?
How could you make me choose? The entire show is so good, and if we're counting Gekijōban, then it gets even harder.
The easiest question: Favorite character? Karen. It's very close between her and Hikari, though. She definitely was Not my favorite character when watched the show for the first time, but over the years she's become the easy fav. Karen deserves all the love ever.
Favorite song: From the movie, it's Super Star Spectacle; what an absolute rollercoaster (or train ride?) of a song. Heartbreak, rebirth, renewal, determination; it's a tune for rivals, for lovers, for winning and losing and ending and it's so fucking good. For the show, it's probably either Hanasaka Uta or Star Divine Finale, the former being a fucking banger and the latter is just fun. Love that Claudine specifically just gets an entire verse to herself to preach about Maya. There is Zero reason, girl.
Favorite Revue: ...I have no idea. Claudine and Maya's from the movie is insane, but I have a huge soft spot for Medalsuzdalpanic as well... I cannot choose, sorry. Literally every single Revue in the movie is peak cinema. From the show... I really like Nana's against Hikari's. The visual callback of the stage to Hikari losing her brilliance in London is super cool, and it's just a really good fight. But it'd be close against Mahiru vs Karen and Karen vs Maya. This is hard.

AnimEigo to Launch Kickstarter Campaign for Macross II Anime Release
Tumblr media
AnimEigo's Robert Woodhead announced at the Animazement event last week that AnimEigo will launch a Kickstarter campaign for the release of the Super Dimensional Fortress Macross II original video anime film this summer. The company will reveal more details at its panel at the Otakon event, which runs from July 28-30. #Macross2 Kickstarter is coming later this summer. Details at @Otakon panel. We announced this at @animazement but somehow I "spaced" on tweeting about it. If you have interesting ideas for stretch goals, tweet away! — Robert Woodhead (@AnimEigo) June 5, 2023 Biggest announced in July 2022 that AnimEigo would be releasing the anime on Blu-ray discs. At the time, Woodhead revealed on Twitter that his release of Macross II would be a high-definition transfer and not a resolution bump. The six-episode anime premiered in 1992. The story is set eight decades after Space War I and follows a civilian news reporter who meets a mysterious singer from a previously unknown alien race. Studio Nue began the Macross franchise in 1982 with The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, a television anime series featuring the themes of a love triangle, music, and transforming fighter jets. Studio Nue worked with advertising agency Bigwest and anime studio Tatsunoko Production as production partners. The franchise spawned three other television series (Macross 7, Macross Frontier, and Macross Delta), several theatrical films (beginning with The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love?), and several video series (including Macross II, Macross Plus, Macross Dynamite 7 and Macross Zero). Macross Delta aired from April to September 2016, after a trailer for the first episode in 2015. The latest animated work in the Macross franchise, the feature film Gekijōban Macross Delta: Zettai LIVE!!!!!!, opened in Japan in October 2021 along with the short film “Gekijō Tanpen Macross Frontier Toki no Meikyū” (Macross Frontier Film Short: Labyrinth of Time). Sunrise is releasing a new Macross animation project. via Anime Networks Read the full article

Have you already seen "Gekijōban Zero," the "Fatal Frame" movie? It has a 5.8/10 on IMDb, but I hear that Kotaku gave it a positive review, so I assume that reactions are mixed.
I really like it, it’s easily one of the better Japanese horror films of the past few years as well as being one of the few successful video game movies.
There’s a pretty big caveat to the last point though, in that it’s a video game adaptation in the loosest of terms. While it has some thematic elements pulled from the source material, you could remove the name Fatal Frame and you’d never connect this movie to that series. The most difficult aspect of this (to me) is that it ditches the classic kaidan aesthetics from the games entirely in favour of Western gothic fiction.

That said, it does that incredibly well, and the movie is generally beautiful throughout. The cinematography, in particular, is amazing and gives it a dreamlike character that a lot of movies have lacked since the move to digital. I think the opening half hour struggles with being kind of repetitive, but it’s worth sticking with as the story really picks up in a way that sets it apart from a lot of modern horror.
