EI had once promised you an eternity of love and happiness, but what could a mortal know of eternity? Most mortals barely made it to a hundred years old - when she lives through countless of them, alone and unchanging.

Life loved taking those she cared about from her, each person taking a piece of her shattered heart along with them until only crumbs remained at the bottom of her hollow chest.

Kitsune Saiguu, Makoto and you. Those she loved the most and those she failed to protect. She never imagined life without them, not able to imagine a future without them or one where death was their destiny.

All except for you. However heartbreaking, you were just a motral. It was to be expected that you would die long before her. It was something she accepted for the sake of being with you, no matter how it broke her to one day lose you - she would endure it to have you by her side night and day.

But to lose you all in one go? She never expected or imagined it to happen. She had left you in Inazuma when she hurried to chase after Makoto to Khaenri'ah, where she was too late to save her. Soon she would lose Kitsune Saiguu to the tragedy of battle. She still believed you to be safe in Tenshukaku with the protection of her soldiers. Inside her home.

It would have been true had the Abyss not covered Inazuma in a thick fog whilst attacking its people so fiercly and relentlessly it cost countless lives to be lost, tragically yours amongst them.

The day she finally returned to Inazuma she expected to see you happy and ready to greet her at the door - yet you weren't. A true look of horror crossed her expression as she was told of your passing, her soldiers eyes were full of pity for her.

She refused to cry in front of her men, instead sending them away. But the whole of Inazuma would feel her rage and sorrow for the coming moths, as the skies remained dark with the thunder roaring while lightning struk the earth mercilessly.

After your burial she managed to collect herself and the sun shone again. It almost felt like you were sending its rays of warmth to kiss her features as your last goodbye. You were laid to rest upon a sunny hill were wildflowers bloomed all around you, a small shrine was built near it with dedicated people tending and maintaining it daily.

But she would not let these losses bring her down. Thus, she would harden what remained of her heart and seal herself away in the Plane of Euthymia to seek eternity, never to be distracted by mortals or ties to others ever again. Including her only remaining friend - Yae Miko.

She would not lose any more of her people to outside forces and such was the Sakoku Decree issued, it was to seal off Inazuma from the rest of Teyvat. Inazuma would stand eternal and unchanging, just the way it was when you yet lived. With a present god as its ruler it rivalled any other land and no one dared to challenge its might.

It was clear that the shackles of eternity had not helped Ei in the slightest. When the vision hunt decree was abolished, things were set to go back to how they were previously. The visions were returned to their rightful owners, memories retrieved and lost lives compensated. But as Ei struggled to think of how eternity should look, she could only think of you. In fact, before her exchange with the traveller, you were still on her mind! Where were you? Had your vision been confiscated? Did you resent her? She had not been well versed in the new normal her people lived in as they still did not interest her. When the traveller suggested that she go out for a stroll with her as she contemplated eternity, she obliged with the slim chance that she would get to see you, even if it was only for a brief moment.

As she walked the streets of Inazuma city, the storyteller who resited the tragic tale of your love did not fall deaf on her ears. The tale had been twisted and exaggerated as all things passed down by speech were. But, they captured the main essence, Ei had chosen her eternity over your love and cast you aside.

No one had the guts to walk up to her and get her side of the story, but not many believed the story was true. Many did not think she was capable of love and the story of her being in love with the named Kitsune was a 50/50 battle. Ei had tried to ignore it all and remain optimistic about the little trip she had embarked on.

Though when it ended and she had to depart from the traveller and make her way back to Tenshukaku, she had come across your familiar figure not too far from the Kamisato estate. The figure was gazing into the night sky as it sat peacefully atop the grass. The nostalgia hit her deep. "Y/n?" She called out on instinct before she even realised. The figure looked back at her, eyes widened, yet lacked any hint of warmth. "Ei? So the news that Yae relayed to me was true after all, huh? If I had known, I would have stayed home," You say coldly as you get up from your spot on the grass and begin to walk away. " When did you suddenly become so cold, I hadn't known you to be this way!" She exclaimed shocked at your behaviour. " There's a lot you don't know right now Ei, or should I say, Shogun. Last I checked you wanted to be off the first name basis after sending your puppet to break up with me." You say as you stop walking not facing her.

"I didn't want you to feel bad," She says earning a chuckle from you. " Not feel bad? You disappear for months and when I decide I'm tired of sitting idle and come to confront you, you send a puppet to tell me that I have no place in your eternity! Eternity was the promise that you made to me when you asked me out! You left me crying like a fool and didn't bother to even do it face to face!" You yell turning to look her square in the eye. " I meant my promise to you at the time and my feeling has not changed, they did not change even when I resided in the plane of Euthymia all these years!" She yells as she approaches you and attempts to touch your cheek. " Well, mine has," You say as you slap her hand away from you with your left hand. In that split moment, the moon caused the silver band on your left ring finger to glisten.

Ei was static, she was unmoving, and her eyes almost started to water at the sight. You adjust the band and sigh. "I'm guessing Miko didn't fill you in on this, huh?" You say. "They can't possibly love you as much as I do and even if they do, I won't allow it!" Ei says regaining her composure. You chuckle lowly before saying "You're not the one in charge of blessing my marriage, if anything, Miko is the closest thing to an official blesser,"."Then I won't let her bless the marriage," Ei said as she felt the uneasiness grow in her stomach. "That would be a good move to play Ei. But,..you see, she's the one I'm getting married to," You say with a mischievous smile. Ei felt her world spin, with thousands of questions swirling in her head! She felt betrayed but she was the one who gave you up, she didn't have the right to do this and she couldn't! "I suggest you don't show up for the wedding regardless of whether or not you receive an invitation. I don't want you to ruin the happiness of I and Yae's eternity," you say as you walk away from her, crushing her heart and leaving her to pick up the pieces as she did to you. Only then did she realise the true shackles that eternity had put on her, the shackles that caused her your love.

Description: Osmanthus Wine tastes the same as I remember, but where are those who share the memories?

Notes: So, I made it a point to only refer to the archons by their "true names" (i.e Baal, Morax, Barbatos, Egeria, Focalors ect.) unfortunately, of the OG archons, we only know 4 of their "true names" since the name Rukkhadevata is not the same as Nahida being Buer. So a lot of the archons are simply referred to as "the ____ archon" and pronouns are avoided (except with Rukkhadevata) because for a lot of them we don't even know that.

Morax is, once again, unsure how he was elected to hold this gathering. Surely Fontain, the land located in the center of Teyvat, was a better option? It’s not like it was lacking water way entrances for Baal to travel to. Or perhaps somewhere they can drink on solid ground and not-

“Barbatos stay away from the cliff!” The dendro archon scolds as she cages him to the ground with roots and drags him back to the table.

His wings flail helplessly as he tries to take off, a usually accomplishable feat if not for his drunken state damping his strength. Baal and the other three archons snicker behind their cups before downing the contents. Morax can only lament that his suggestion to drink closer to the ground was once again denied.

“For the god of a nation known for its alcohol,” the cryo archon sighs, pouring another glass of osmanthus wine, “he cannot hold his alcohol.”

Everyone at the table nods in agreement as the vines finally wrangle the archon in question back to the table.

“You drink just as heavily,” Morax notes, watching the cryo archon finally forgo a cup and simply open a new bottle to drink from, “and yet you seem unaffected.”

The cryo archon maintains eye contact while chugging the wine, sighing in satisfaction once the bottle was a quarter depleted. Elsewhere at the table, Egeria watches in awe as the pyro archon rises to the challenge and grabs another bottle. This was how these gatherings always ended.

The dendro archon sighs as the pyro archon downs half a bottle. Barbatos, ever observant when alcohol was involved, peels himself from the table and makes a swipe at the communal bottle which Egeria quickly moves away.

“You’ve had more than enough for today. I do believe flight while inebriated is a crime.”

“I'm not inebriated,” Barbatos slurs, “I’m drunk.”

“Those are synonyms, Barbatos.”

“What does cinnamon have to do with anything?”

Baal snorts as she holds her cup out to Egeria for a refill, and Morax follows her lead.

While perhaps this location was less than ideal, Morax did not find himself regretting playing host to the rest of the seven. Time was fleeting, and someday these gatherings would be nothing more than memories.
