some descriptions under the cut :)
WINTERCAKE: "The taste of wintercake filled his mouth again, rich with ginger and pine nuts and bits of cherry, with nahsa to wash it down, fermented goat's milk served in an iron cup and laced with honey."
SISTER'S STEW: "The beer was brown, the bread black, the stew a creamy white. She served it in a trencher hollowed out of a stale loaf. It was thick with leeks, carrots, barley, and turnips white and yellow, along with clams and chunks of cod and crabmeat, swimming in a stock of heavy cream and butter. It was the sort of stew that warmed a man right down to his bones, just the thing for a wet, cold night. Davos spooned it up gratefully."
SNAILS: "Snails in honey and garlic. Sansa had never eaten snails before; Joffrey showed her how to get the snail out of the shell, and fed her the first sweet morsel himself."
BOWL OF BROWN: "...So thick you could stand your spoon up in the bowl, with chunks of this and that."

some random lighthearted hcs ^_^ 👍👍 cus all ive been posting is angst shit tralalalaaa
-iroh and lu tens biggest beef (satirical exaggeration) was always over tea preferences. they both love it- but in just wildly different ways. lu ten liked tea with milk and ginger and cardamom and sugar and black pepper and all kinds of other spices and shit (aka saffron chai). meanwhile his father is, as we all know, one of those snobs that dies on the hill of appreciating tea with its delicate and natural flavors alone. even if it just tasted like grass. one time, though, iroh was overjoyed to hear lu ten found a tea he liked just on its own (aka hibiscus tea), without add ons. but then was dismayed to immediately discover that lu ten liked it served cold (aka karkadeh). later, just to fuck with his dad, lu ten announced that he discovered its even better with the additions of citrus juice, honey, and mint. iroh just cant ever win with his boys
-azula is the youngest so its like instinct to be annoying. like shed get genuine urges to go and annoy zuko somehow someway. not all the times shes annoyed him are malicious- sometimes shed go in his room and if he was at his desk shed pluck the brush out of his hand and throw it across the room and take all the candles out and leave without closing the door behind her. or if he was laying down shed pull his socks halfway off throw his blanket on the floor and leave. she did it all wordlessly for comedic effect until he was like “why.” and then shed start cackling like a maniac
-lu ten enjoyed engaging in little kid activities with azula and zuko. hed sit on his stomach and kick his feet while finger painting. hed play whatever the fire nation version of hopscotch is with them, along with mai and ty lee. when azula covered his mouth before he said something to embarrass her in front of ty lee hed lick her hand and shed start screeching. hed make jokes about zuko being short even though lu ten could legally drink and zuko was like 10 so it didnt even make sense
-lu tens azula nicknames: lala (naturally), pumpkin, crab cake, sweetheart, baby (the last two only come out when its just the two of them or if shes upset. she has a reputation.)
lu tens zuko nicknames: zuzu (naturally), turtleduck (also naturally), princeling, squirt, shrimpmunk (note how most of these are a cute joke about him being Tiny and Small)
the kids called him lulu when he called them zuzu and lala. when he was teaching azula how to talk she called him baba for like a week to his dismay and panic, even if she didnt know what that meant, until he got it through her head that he wasnt the one to be called that. and ozai wasnt either because unfortunately he isnt the casual type
(he also called ursa auntie in front of anyone. to his great joy, ursa told him that ozai complained about it to her. thus, he continued to do it)
-lu ten made time for the kids not by ignoring his duties in their favor but by overachieving and overworking to stay as far ahead of his duties as possible. the faster he got shit done the more time leftover he had. his favorite thing to do with them aside from ember island was sneak them out of the palace and into the town during the evening, when they had all the best street food and outdoor theater set out
-roughhousing and chasing each other around was always a thing iroh and lu ten did before things got awkward and sour. their pai sho games- when they werent using it as a vessel for serious conversations- were loud, dramatic, and funny to witness. like iroh would be swearing and lu ten would be laughing hysterically. the servants would come and go with refreshments while giggling
-iroh and lu ten also engaged in Old Man Activities together. like you know how old folks just sit on porches for hours for no reason??? iroh and lu ten would do that together in the palace garden. they also did morning meditation and prayer at the ass crack of dawn
-before zuko was born and it was for the most part just ursa and lu ten, she got homesick a lot, and taught lu ten some of the stuff she did before marrying into the family. so lu ten knew how to make shit like jewelry, clay masks, and embroidered fans
-on ember island trips the three did a lot of cooking together. azula liked making sweet treats and fruit platters, zuko liked making kimchi and fried snacks. cleaning the mess is just as much a bonding activity as making the mess
-lu ten managed to keep whatever the hell he had going on with zhao a complete secret from iroh and ursa, zuko was just oblivious, but azula… is perceptive. and nosy. and protective. so one day when zhao leaves the palace azula approaches lu ten from out of nowhere and is basically like “(Katt Williams voice) You have an unnatural allegiance to losers and its not like you 😐”. he has no clue what to say to that
(it was not to azulas knowledge that zhao was harassing zuko constantly during his banishment. had she known, she wouldve done something about it. Not something that would inconvenience her father or the navy, obviously, but she wouldve definitely done something. #Trust.)

Thinking about food that doesn't exist again. Classic shrimp spring rolls with a generous portion of shrimp and the peanut dip kept external in favor of a small amount of raising maybe just 3 carefully placed in each roll for a contrasting sweetness?
Thin rice cakes fried to a crisp and alternated with salmon and crab cake (that actually tastes like crab I hate over seasons crab cake so much. Disappointment every time) sprinkled with black sesame and drizzled with a bright avocado lime sauce? And if you laid out the cakes in a ring you'd have a perfect spot for a tine-steak salsa also seasoned generously with lime, red onion, MAYBE mango, just half of it. Because I could see the sweeter and more savory takes on this being controversial. And it's seasoned with bell paper and chili flakes to keep the actual veg taste sharp and mild while mimicking the burn of jalapeño in a more controlled and consistent way? A mind background hint of ginger and maybe very small pieces of shredded green apple would not be amis. Ah, the platters I would make!

For @starblue2406
Here are a few things I'll eat in a day. I typically don't eat a big breakfast, but I will have a big lunch. Dinners in my family are late, usually 6pm to 8pm, we typically walk after dinner, then I'll drink tea to relax before bed.
You'll probably notice a lack of beef and pork, I have trouble digesting them, so it's mostly chicken and seafood. My family also don't eat a lot of bread, it's treated more like a side than a meal.
And yeah, there's a quite a mix of cultures here. My mom's side is Greek/Egypt with Turkish influences from her great grandfather, my dad is Native American with some adopted local New Mexico flavors. Since I was originally born and raised by the ocean, seafood and sea vegetables are a big thing in my diet. They're hard to find in the southwest, but I crave them and they keep me healthy as I have low blood pressure, so I need a bit of healthy salt.
----------------
Things I'll have for breakfast:

Dinner Talk: ShinHisa
Subjects: Trickster (Shingen Itazura) & Phantomage (Hisaya Itazura)
Restaurant: Umizawa's Crab Shack, Osaka
Orders:
Wasabi crab cakes with ginger ale - Trickster
Crab egg foo yung with strawberry lemonade - Phantomage
Trickster: Looking sexy as always, babe.
Phantomage: You say that everytime I wear anything. Saying things like that starts to lose meaning after a while.
Trickster: Because it's true. If there's one thing I love besides an aged woman, it's one who dresses nice.
Phantomage: Now, I can't argue with that when it comes to myself.
Trickster: So, about our little family vacation-
Phantomage: Not when I have exams coming up in a few weeks. I take my job very seriously, Shin.
Trickster: Please? Just this once? For me and little Asuka?
Phantomage: Fine. Just this once for you and Asuka.
Trickster: Fucking awesome. As I was saying, for our little family vacation I was thinking we should go to this really nice resort in the South.
Phantomage: In the South, huh?
Trickster: Yeah. It's got a water park, mini golf course, and a luxury spa.
Phantomage: Luxury spa?
Trickster: Now that's what gets your attention. I already booked us a suite that has a kids' bedroom so you and I can have mommy and daddy time when our little fox is sleeping.
Phantomage: Perhaps these vacations should be more frequent.

Character Intro: Deucalion (Kingdom of Ichor)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nicknames- Deuce by his family & friends
Age- 12 (immortal)
Location- Lunar district, New Olympus
Personality-A smart inquisitive young man, he's quite mature beyond his years. Getting into his angsty & sullen phase, there's quite a bit that threatens to burst from the surface.
Deuce comes from two great godly dynasties in the pantheon. His mom Celeano is one of The Pleiades while his father is Prometheus (Titan god of forethought). Despite his parentage, Deuce managed only to inherit immortality as well as limited prophecy (in the form of undistinguishable dreams).
Even though he was born in the state of Achaea, Arcadia has always been home. His home there was a small mansion situated on the mountainside. Deuce loved going swimming & cliff diving with his childhood friends and riding their bikes through the wilderness oark. At night, him & his mom would sleep in the observatory, eating way too many s'mores! Now living in an (albeit nice) apartment in The Dianos Building in the Lunar neighborhood of New Olympus has been quite the change. Deucalion and his mom still travel to Arcadia often.
A go-to drink for him is root beer flavored soda. He also likes ginger ale, water, hot chocolate, & blueberry juice. He also likes the blueberry smoothies his mom makes.
Deuce knows that his parents broke up when he was a toddler, but their friendship was always great in his childhood. He saw his father often and would talk to him daily. Deuce was even his father's ringbearer when he got married.
It's been a few months since his father's punishment in the Underworld and he misses everything about him- his strong warm hugs, his natural scent of clay & aftershave, his deep throaty laugh, and when they'd spend time together like playing basketball, playing video games, or working at his kiln.
Before his dad's punishment, Deuce liked his step-mother Pronoia. Sure, her quirky personality took some getting used to and he didn't understand her weird sayings/puns, but she was a geniunely loving person with a lightning bright smile. He also really liked whenever she made crab cakes with grilled oysters. Deuce hasn't seen her since she was committed to a mental hospital.
He has a single pet- a she-dragon named Nemirys who has dark green & copper colored scales. Deuce worked alongside Draco (god of dragons) to design and make his saddle. He rides her all the time, not just to & from school. Being on dragonback is the closest thing to freedom for him. It's one of the only times where he almost forgets everything.
His favorite video game is Escape from Charybdis.
"Half-sister" is not a word in his vocabulary when it comes to Aidos (goddess of shame, modesty, humility, & respect). They're brother and sister & that's it. They're pretty close with Deuce being protective of her. Even times where he doesn't feel like he can talk to anybody, his sister is a phone call or text away. They've been leaning on each other more since their dad's punishment and her mom's nervous breakdown. His mom has even invited Aidos to their apartment to sleep over a few times.
A guilty pleasure for him is an olympian burger (with extra bacon & onions).
Deuce's relationship with his mom has been a bit strained. He loves her, but he doesn't know how to be angry around her in a healthy way, especially when the subject of his father comes up or when they sometimes get hounded by the paparrazi- bombarding them with questions and hurtful rumors. Deuce sometimes helps out at the martial arts studio she owns. It's been a while since they shared a jumbo cinnamon roll at the bakery.
On his mother's side his relatives are his grandmother Pleione (Titaness of sailing & stars), his aunts The Pleiades (Maia, Electra, Taygete, Alcyone, Asterope, & Merope), and his cousin, the messenger god Hermes. There's also his other young cousins who are Merope's sons. On his father's side, there's his grandparents Iapetus (Titan god of mortality, pain, & death) and Clymene (Titaness of fame & renown), his uncles Atlas (Titan god of strength & endurance), Epimetheus (Titan god of afterthought), and Menoetius (Titan god of rage, violence, & rash actions), as well as his cousins Calypso, Prophasis (goddess of excuses), Pyrrha, & The Hyades.
Deuce is obviously closer to his mother's side of the family since he was raised around them. When he visits Arcadia he'll usually go hunting with his aunt Taygete (Tig). Even though their situations couldn't be far from different, Deuce feels like he can relate more to Merope's sons (being that they can't see their father, who's infamous as well). He's mostly close with Ornytion (Orin) who's a year younger than him.
His other favorite dessert are the moon cakes his aunt Maia makes.
With his father's side, he's been trying to spend more time with them especially since his sister lives with their grandparents. Deuce likes Iapetus (and the fact that he tries to smuggle messages from him & Aidos to their dad). He was surprised at Clymene's response when she saw him for the first time (in a long time). She ran her fingers through his thick dark brown hair & kept touching his face, whispering, "You look exactly like him." Deuce did like going to Thessaly to see his uncle Epimetheus- in particular spending time with his many animals and beating Prophasis at Escape from Charybdis. Deuce has only gone to Sparta once to visit his uncle Menoetius where they went to a wrestling match. He was gifted with a pair of brass knuckles.
He's currently on break from school. Deuce attends an esteemed private school in New Olympus. He personally doesn't consider himself to "have friends", but he's cool with Thrasos (god of boldness, insolence, recklessness, & courage), Philia (goddess of friendship), and Thespios (god of acting). Deuce will also say hi to the smartest kid in school Epidotes (god of purity). He's of course a straight A student, but there's something that could potentially threaten his squeaky clean academic record. A couple of months ago, Deuce was punished- a week's suspension & detention for the rest of the term after getting into a fight with a cyclops student during a pep rally, who kept making wisecracks about his dad's punishment. In the fight, he used the brass knuckles his uncle had given him.
Deuce appreciates the genuine kindness he recieved from Achelois (goddess of the moon & comfort). He repayed her kindness back by giving her a box of amygdalotas he bought from the bakery. He does think she's cute, but isn't ready to pursue a friendship.
At school, Deuce started up a charity drive to help with the flood relief in Arcadia.
In the pantheon, it's no secret how much he hates Zeus (god of the sky, thunder, & lightning). More than once the thought of him & his dragon setting fire to the royal palace has entered his mind. Aside from his father, he really looks up to Hepheastus (god of the forge).
In his free time Deuce mostly likes to keep to himself by listening to music, playing video games, or writing in his journal. He also enjoys swimming, martial arts, and skateboarding.
His all-time favorite meal is his mom's fuqi feipan with lo mein.
"My brain is constantly flooded with thoughts."

eating steamed crabs
I am explaining to my partner that there is something specifically feral and visceral about eating steamed crabs. You take your fingernails – the closest thing to claws that we have – and you tear the crab into halves, into quarters, prying it apart and digging into crevices to remove tiny white slivers of meat that taste like the sea. After ripping each leg from the crab’s body, you use your teeth to squeeze the muscle out, picturing small holes in the fragile exoskeleton with each closing of the jaw. It comes apart in slivers of shell (spat out into a bowl of the crab’s fallen comrades) and brine as it succumbs to the ravenous wiles of your hands, your teeth, and occasionally a pair of scissors or a single chopstick.
In the end, after an hour or two, you have consumed the substance equivalent of two or three small meatballs, and your fingers have pruned like it truly was the sea you are swimming in, rather than a mixture of black vinegar, grated ginger, and the crab’s internal fluids. Something in your mind is satiated – its not certain just what that something is, but I can assure you it is not your hunger.
My mother tells me of the way my grandfather eats crab – he patiently removes each slippery wedge of meat, slowly creating a pile on his spoon, and once the entire crab has been excavated, he drenches the pile in vinegar and ginger before putting it all in his mouth. She only pries apart the body, ignores the legs altogether, and pawns off the claws to me or my father. Her teeth are weak and almost seem translucent, supposedly from having too many antibiotics as a kid in China, and it hurts her jaw to remove the meat from the limbs.
My brother in law refuses to eat even fish with bones in them, claiming that it's too much work. He avoids my favorites – shrimp fried in their shells, with their heads still on; crab and lobster; fish heads and duck feet.
In Chinese, we call meat by the name of the animal it came from, but in English there is a degree of separation. Pig becomes “pork”, cow becomes “beef” or “veal”, even deer becomes “venison”. In Asian grocery stores you can see tanks of fish, their eyes like marbles looking through the cloudy water and scratched up glass – those eyes with the texture of jelly once cooked, with a ring of clear bone to be spat out after swallowing the umami insides. At the outdoor meat markets in China you can find live chickens, and if you buy one they’ll kill it in the back, and de-feather it for you too.
There is something lost in eating crab cakes, and it is not the sensation of getting a piece of shell stuck between your teeth. Or perhaps that is what’s lost, the sense of realness, the sense that this thing that you are eating was once alive, that its legs were once used to scuttle along the ocean floor or the riverbank, depending on what kind of crab you have. It is another degree of separation from the idea of the animal, the animal that the crab once was, that you once were.
Tonight, my mother steamed crabs for dinner, and I take a picture of the glass bowl full of cracked crab shells in red and white and yellow and brown, and crab gills which are the color of eggshell, and two corn cobs. I send it to my partner and caption it “the aftermath of crab-eating”. Steamed crabs connect me back to my roots, back across the sea where these crabs came from to China, back to being human, to being a creature with long fingers for grabbing, and teeth for biting, and a pair of scissors to pry apart crab shells with. There is something special about accidentally flinging a claw across the table and onto the carpet, or spraying yourself in the face with pale yellow brine.
Even now as I write my hands are sticky with it, the lifeblood of something separate from me, sticky with remnants of crab I won’t be able to wash off until I shower tonight, sticky with black vinegar and grated ginger. My partner, lovingly, asks me if I’ve ever heard of a crab cracker.

The last song you listened to: "Absolution Calling" by Incubus (it's the song that plays as my alarm for starting my workday).
Currently Reading: The list is too long. I'm reading a bunch of webcomics and manga, but the last one I finished was The Irritable Man (inkr.com)
Last Movie: No clue, but I did watch a Viki.com movie, by which I mean Viki's edit of a series into a continuous feature, and that was Where Your Eyes Linger.
Craving: Flat durum wheat pasta in a fra diavolo sauce and shrimp.
What are you wearing right now: My "uniform"... t-shirt dress, zip hoodie, heel sleeves.
How tall are you: 5'8"/173.
Piercings: One in each ear, but I haven't adorned them since I stopped stretching them.
Tattoos: None. I wanted one when I was a teen, but decided I wouldn't get one unless I would feel the same way about it forever. Then I learned I have commitment issues.
Glasses? Contacts?: Glasses.
Last drink: Canada Dry Bold Ginger Ale.
Last show: Cherry Blossoms After Winter.
Last thing you ate: Rice with shrimp, corn, asparagus, carrots, and broccoli in a spicy Parmesan sauce.
Favourite colour: Since gray is not a color, I have to go with green.
Current obsession: BL, though it hasn't changed since 2007/8.
Unrelated Obsession: I was going to answer Sims 4, but I use it primarily for BL-type purposes. So, instead, some form of meaty protein (like salmon, crab cakes, turkey kielbasa, or breaded white fish) with cheese and a fried egg between brioche or potato buns.
Any pets: No more.

sdv gifting
Listing this out for my own reference! My approach to gifting is to prioritize gifts that I don’t need to go out of my way to get. Basically I prefer using gifts I get while mining, whether it’s gems or enemy drops. My next go-to is forage items.

Cooked Foods*
Generally I don’t bother cooking meals for NPCs, but it's sometimes more convenient than waiting for crops to grow (looking at you Jas and your stupid Fairy Roses.
