Superbon breaks down his fight with Giorgio Petrosyan
Very rarely do we get to listen to fighters break down what they do in the ring/cage so it’s a treat to have the P4P best kickboxer in the world right now break down his own monumental win over Giorgio Petrosyan.
As always it was a wild year of combat sports but I think from top to bottom the most fun I had this year watching a card was One First Strike. I took the day off of work so I could watch this and it was worth every single minute from the time it started up until the holy shit moment of the year to end the card.
#5: Giorgio Petrosyan vs Superbon Banchamek (ONE First Strike, October 15)
If this list was of the "most significant" kickboxing matches of 2021 rather than my personal favorites, this could easily be #1. This fight was for the inaugural ONE Featherweight (70.3kg) Kickboxing Championship and was between two truly elite fighters. In one corner you have a man known widely as one of the GOATs of Kickboxing, Giorgio Petrosyan. Suffice to say that he had not lost a fight in nearly 8 years at this point and would likely still be a heavy favorite against anyone in his weight class. His opponent, a surging thai fighter, Superbon Banchamek, whose last win was a sound victory over the former longtime GLORY Lightweight Championship Sittichai Sitsongpeenong.
The significance of this fight comes from it's result. In a shocking sequence, Superbon not only managed to become one of three men to defeat Petrosyan, he brutally knocked him out. Watching the fight for the first time, it felt as though the action was just beginning to heat up, when a head kick from Superbon landed and brought the fight to it's sudden conclusion. While this may not the most competitive, action packed fight to happen this past year, it was definitely an important one.
