During my quest to find more Ayano Go and Hoshino Gen content after watching MIU404, I came across this May 20, 2020 Issue of the anan magazine online:
not relevant but i'm kinda emotional as it's the same day that i'd started learning japanese😭
The magazine is currently sold out on CD Japan, but I found a copy available on eBay (i'm adding it to my wishlist to buy someday in the future).
Further digging on Twitter and Pinterest led me to these GORGEOUS spreads in this issue:
(various sources - shoutout to this twitter post that made me jump into this rabbithole😅)
SO here's that scene I didn't have the laptop battery to post last night. (Power came back a little after midnight, everything's fine.) It's well worth watching -- 48:27 to 52:19 in the Gdrive rip.
Lupin, who already knows what Goemon can do, hauls Jigen up a mountain to meet him with absolutely zero previous explanation, because that's Lupin. Jigen promptly hollers out "Gun beats sword!", Goemon materializes behind him and says "Say that again", and my god, the tension between them is so thick you could slice it like a safe door. Lupin realizes he *miiiiiight* have made a slight miscalculation here, setting up a dick-measuring contest between two very deadly men he absolutely needs alive and functional for his heist plan -- or maybe he just wants to be the filling in that sandwich, you never know with Lupin. ^_^
(Go Ayano is, I think, the only live-action version of Goemon in the history of the franchise. He's not quite as prettyfaced as anime or manga Goemon, but he absolutely sells the energy.)
I have enough screenshots of this scene that there'll be at least one more post, maybe two, and I didn't want to break right in the middle of the faceoff between Jigen and Goemon, so you get a nice quick-draw cliffhanger instead. :D
Writer: Tatsuro Mishima (based on the manga by Yoshihiro Togashi)
Mini-review:
Wow, this surpassed all my expectations. I don't know much about the original manga/anime, but this live-action adaptation was thrilling, engaging and incredibly fun. I do think it was too short and the characters were underdeveloped, but the superb cast goes all in and makes you care about them despite the rushed writing. On top of that, the production values are top-notch. This drama has arguably the best CGI I've ever seen in a Japanese production (the Spirit World looks stunning), and the action scenes are just jaw-droppingly awesome. Seriously, Takahito Ouchi proves once again that he's one of the best action choreographers/stunt directors in the whole world. I really hope we get more seasons, cause it's clear that a lot of passion, talent and skill went into making this Yu Yu Hakusho adaptation, and these five episodes just fly by. Anyway, this is IMHO a must-watch for action/fantasy lovers.
First of all, unfortunately I probably can't describe less than half of fascinating of MIU404. But you read my recommendation and if you feel MIU404 only a little bit interesting, you should watch the drama.
MIU is short for Mobile Investigation Unit, 404 is a call sign of protagonists IBUKI Ai(performed by AYANO Go) and SHIMA Kazumi(performed by HOSHINO Gen).
IBUKI and SHIMA are police officers. They solve each cases in each episodes.
MIU404 surprises me, shock me, makes me tears, makes me laugh/smile and satisfies me every time I watch. If you want to be excited, I recommend you Episode 1. Watching episode 2, you can't help crying with all your energy. When you watch episode 3-5, you will deeply think about your life. Episode 6 and 8 make you mixed feeling. Episode 9-11 may be a little complicated, but you will be definitely satisfied when you finish watching them. However, I'm confident that all of episodes have all aspects of every feeling.
Especially l'm impressed with episode 6(2020/7/31 broadcasted). SHIMA Kazumi's former buddy KOSAKA has been passed before the beginning of this drama. SHIMA and his former coworkers think that reason why KOSAKA was killed is SHIMA. That's why SHIMA is rumored "Aibo Goroshi(buddy killer)". IBUKI investigates truth of case of KOSAKA.
Because of IBUKI's investigation, finally SHIMA understood KOSAKA's true belief. In our (audience's) view, SHIMA who had felt guilty seems to be healed by IBUKI.
However, ending of the episode, he sited on a place KOSAKA's body was found and said 「お前の相棒が伊吹みたいなやつだったらな(If your buddy was a person like IBUKI, you would not be passed away.)」 So I listened this line and recognized that SHIMA was never healed.
Just after episode 6 broadcasted, I searched "#MIU404" on Twitter and I found NOGI Akiko (MIU404 screenwriter) 's tweet.
Before episode 6 broadcasted on TV, NOGI Akiko had posted following comment on Twitter.
Before episode 6 broadcasted, MIU404 official Twitter account posted "Mr.IBUKI, we hope that you heal Mr.SHIMA!" On 2020/07/29, Ms.Nogi did quote tweet the post and posted "Human can't so much easily heal someone and aren't healed."
In my view, MIU404 shows that human always make mistakes, choose wrong choices and worry whether their choice is right, but they get back on their feet as many times even if their choice is not correct.
Netflix's Yu Yu Hakusho gets an official trailer #netlifx #manga #anime #yuyuhakusho
Yu Yu Hakusho, the legendary smash-hit manga from Weekly Shonen Jump, is finally getting a live-action adaptation! This series of unprecedented scale is brought to life by an all-star cast that includes Takumi Kitamura, Jun Shison, Kanata Hongo, Shuhei Uesugi, Sei Shiraishi, Kenichi Takito, Goro Inagaki, and Go Ayano.
The strength that comes from having something to protect versus the strength…
Netflix has announced many news regarding the Yu Yu Hakusho Event that will take place in Tokyo, on the Evening of December 13, 2023. The application process ends on December 5 on the official site. Seats are limited!
What do we know so far?
The live screening of the first episode
Thousands of fans will have the chance to watch the screening of the first episode of the series on a large screen and at high volume.
Exclusive content with an immersive fan experience
There will be various other projects at the venue, where participants will be able to experience the worldview of Yu Yu Hakusho. Netflix has showed some of the contents:
A photo spot reproducing Koenma's office;
A long corridor displaying the work's worldview;
A dojo where you can practice Yusuke's spirit gun (reigan);
A mysterious scroll called "Koenma's Yogen-sho (Prophecy)".
I wonder what's this "Book of Koenma". Maybe some kind of revelation about the next Dark Age of demons that will happen in a hundred years. He mentioned something like that in the manga. There are many spots about Koenma, will Keita Machida show up with his pacifier? lol
Exclusive Netflix/Yu Yu Hakusho Merchandise
Netflix has unveiled some of the merch that is going to be sold at the venue. There's probably more. They usually sell acrylic stands of the characters too.
Red carpet with cast and director
The fans will have the chance to meet some of the cast on a dynamic red carpet. It seems only Kotone Furukawa (Botan) and Goro Inagaki (Sakyo) will not be attending the premiere. It would be a dream if Togashi-sensei made a surprise appearance.
Guest Appearances:
Takumi Kitamura (Yusuke Urameshi), Jun Shison (Kurama), Kanata Hongo (Hiei), Shuhei Uesugi (Kazuma Kuwabara), Sei Shiraishi (Keiko Yukimura), Ai Mikami (Yukina), Hiroya Shimizu (Karasu), Keita Machida (Koenma), Meiko Kaji (Genkai), Kenichi Takito (Elder Toguro), Go Ayano (Younger Toguro), and Director Sho Tsukikawa
