Since this Sunday we celebrate palm Sunday, I want us to focus and think about why Palm is important. It is more than Jesus being worshiped and more than Him being proclaimed as the son of David. It is a reminder that God keeps his promise.
God promised back in Geninsis that he would send a Savior. And in the 4 Gospel accounts, we see God filling that very promise.
No God did not specifically say I will send a Savior.
But when he told Eve that he was going to put enmity between Eve's spring and serpent, he was talking about Jesus. And that was his promise that he was going to send a Savior.
But more specifically, Jesus fulfilled the promise God made in Zachariah 9:9 and Isaiah 62:11.

Genesis 50: Joseph Buries Jacob in Canaan
1 Joseph threw himself on his father and wept over him and kissed him.
2 Then Joseph directed the physicians in his service to embalm his father Israel. So the physicians embalmed him,
3 taking a full forty days, for that was the time required for embalming. And the Egyptians mourned for him seventy days.
4 When the days of mourning had passed, Joseph said to Pharaoh’s court, “If I have found favor in your eyes, speak to Pharaoh for me. Tell him,
5 ‘My father made me swear an oath and said, “I am about to die; bury me in the tomb I dug for myself in the land of Canaan.” Now let me go up and bury my father; then I will return.’”
6 Pharaoh said, “Go up and bury your father, as he made you swear to do.”
7 So Joseph went up to bury his father. All Pharaoh’s officials accompanied him—the dignitaries of his court and all the dignitaries of Egypt—
8 besides all the members of Joseph’s household and his brothers and those belonging to his father’s household. Only their children and their flocks and herds were left in Goshen.
9 Chariots and horsemen also went up with him. It was a very large company.
10 When they reached the threshing floor of Atad, near the Jordan, they lamented loudly and bitterly; and there Joseph observed a seven-day period of mourning for his father.
11 When the Canaanites who lived there saw the mourning at the threshing floor of Atad, they said, “The Egyptians are holding a solemn ceremony of mourning.” That is why that place near the Jordan is called Abel Mizraim.
12 So Jacob’s sons did as he had commanded them:
13 They carried him to the land of Canaan and buried him in the cave in the field of Machpelah, near Mamre, which Abraham had bought along with the field as a burial place from Ephron the Hittite.
14 After burying his father, Joseph returned to Egypt, together with his brothers and all the others who had gone with him to bury his father.
Joseph Reassures His Brothers
15 When Joseph’s brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, “What if Joseph holds a grudge against us and pays us back for all the wrongs we did to him?”
16 So they sent word to Joseph, saying, “Your father left these instructions before he died:
17 ‘This is what you are to say to Joseph: I ask you to forgive your brothers the sins and the wrongs they committed in treating you so badly.’ Now please forgive the sins of the servants of the God of your father.” When their message came to him, Joseph wept.
18 His brothers then came and threw themselves down before him. “We are your slaves,” they said.
19 But Joseph said to them, “Don’t be afraid. Am I in the place of God?
20 You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.
21 So then, don’t be afraid. I will provide for you and your children.” And he reassured them and spoke kindly to them.
The Death of Joseph
22 Joseph stayed in Egypt, along with all his father’s family. He lived a hundred and ten years
23 and saw the third generation of Ephraim’s children. Also the children of Makir son of Manasseh were placed at birth on Joseph’s knees.
24 Then Joseph said to his brothers, “I am about to die. But God will surely come to your aid and take you up out of this land to the land he promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.”
25 And Joseph made the Israelites swear an oath and said, “God will surely come to your aid, and then you must carry my bones up from this place.”
26 So Joseph died at the age of a hundred and ten. And after they embalmed him, he was placed in a coffin in Egypt.

Just realizing how much control God has over EVERYTHING! The world could explode and I'd be perfectly happy, like, yup, "Everything's OK as long as God's with me." Sometimes something crazy happens and people choose to trust the situation, not God. They think, "This is the WORST thing that could happen to me." Nope. I swear it's not, NO MATTER what it is because God promises His plans for us are always good and not to harm us. Trust trust the process and you'll see. He's gotten me through countless situations, He truly IS so mighty.
However, what IS the worst is going through life without God. No promises of love, peace and joy. No blessings or holy inheritance. Just being in the clutches of The Enemy consumed with sin, depression and spiritually dead. That's what Hell's like, where your mind, body and soul are burdened and devoid of light and it makes your existence miserable.
God promised we'll endure hardships but through Jesus, He bears them WITH us. Because Jesus lives through you, He knows every thought and feeling you have. There's not a place you go where He hasn't. You may not FEEL like God is with you, you may be told He isn't but you can't trust flimsy things like our thoughts, feeling or the words of others, only God's Word remains steadfast and true. Faith is believing that even when there isn't always a logical reason to trust old words in a book translated countless times but they're not "just words" they're GOD'S. No matter the translation, His power eminates from them and pray The Holy Spirit will help you realize that. If you don't know what to think or feel or do, His promises will carry you through.
I think He's more than given us enough promises, so instead of asking Him for a new one, thank Him for the ones He's already given and have faith He'll fulfill them in time to perfection.
If you need something to hang your hopes and sorrows on, hang them on The Cross, because I believe me, I tried alternatives and NOTHING is stronger than our Lord and Savior.

Hebrews 10:35-36
I have 3 Bibles, and one of them I've had since I was a kid. At some point when I was a kid, I underlined Hebrews 10:35, probably as a memory verse for VBS or something. Years later, after God had started showing me the life He wanted me to live and I became doubtful of whether any of it was really Him, I picked up that particular Bible and found that I had underlined this verse and forgotten I had. It's almost like God led me to underline so it would stand out when I needed it later.
And verse 35 makes more sense when read with verse 36. We so often tend to think that "God's promise" just means going to heaven when we die, but it also means our life here on Earth. When a person accepts Jesus and the Holy Spirit enters their soul, that person immediately becomes a citizen of heaven. They still have to walk on this Earth for as long as God tells them to, but they don't belong to this world anymore. God's promise isn't just for after they die, but for here on Earth, too. God's promise is that they will be "renewed" and "transformed" (Romans 12:2), which, when you look at the Bible as a whole, essentially just means they will become the person they were born to be.
I feel like I can't ever stress this enough: you will never find yourself by looking on your own. You have to work with God, and be patient and obedient and trust in Him. He will lead you to everything He made you to be.
