A healer of the remedial abyss 🪶
This was meant to be a lil rendering experiment but that didn’t work out. However I have been wanting a character based on a golden pheasant for a while so I thought I’d still use the sketch, plus my friend was considering running a wuxia game in the future so here’s my demon bird alchemist!! Haven’t picked out a name yet and i’m in no rush cause the game won’t run for a while but they’ll be a fun one to build eventually!

Round 1, Poll 29
Golden Pheasant vs Pheasant-tailed Jacana
sources under cut
Golden Pheasant Propaganda
"my favorite character in hatoful boyfriend is a golden pheasant and i haven't seen this bird in a single poll yet, which brings me great sorrow. and they're so pretty!!"
Nearly two-thirds of the length of the males is made up of tail feathers.
They can be found commonly in zoos and aviaries, but often are hybrids with some amount of Lady Amherst's pheasant in their lineage.
Pheasant-tailed Jacana Propaganda
"absurd feet to walk on lily pads and also the way they hold their chicks (applies to all jacanas but pheasant tailed jacanas just look fun)"
Like all jacana, they're polyandrous, with females laying several clutches of eggs with different males, leaving him to do the raising of the chicks.
The males are known for carrying chicks in their wings, but before this I did not know they could also move their eggs around too. "Males may move or drag eggs around by holding them between the bill and breast or between the wings and body. They may also push and float the eggs over water and onto nearby vegetation platforms when disturbed." - Wiki

Golden pheasant, also known as Chinese pheasant.
Fact from Animal Corner: Golden Pheasants are very timid birds and will hide in dark, dense forests and woodlands during the day and roost in very high trees during the night. Golden Pheasants often forage on the ground despite their ability to fly, this may be because they are quite clumsy in flight. However, if they are startled, they are capable of taking off in a sudden fast upward motion with a distinctive wing sound.Little is known about their behaviour in the wild as although the males are very colorful birds, they are difficult to spot. The best time to possibly observe a Golden Pheasant is very early in the morning when they may be seen in clearings.
