The story of the McLaren F1 and Gordon Murray.

The McLaren F1, a supercar crafted by McLaren Automotive, emerged from the visionary mind of Gordon Murray, who secured the support of Ron Dennis and enlisted Peter Stevens to shape its exterior. Unveiled in 1992, the McLaren F1 redefined the concept of supercars by embracing an uncompromising approach to design and engineering that transcended existing boundaries.

This groundbreaking masterpiece embodied a clean-sheet design, featuring bespoke components tailored exclusively for the car, excluding the taillights. The overarching principle driving its creation was efficiency, resulting in a compact form with featherweight carbon fiber body panels and understructure, along with aluminum or magnesium mechanical parts. Other unique features of the car are its powerful V12 engine from BMW and its center seat arrangement providing for optimal weight distribution. The obsession with weight became legendary, as even the Kenwood stereo, air conditioning, and gold-plated titanium tools were meticulously designed by manufacturers to meet Murray's stringent weight specifications, challenging the capabilities of parts manufacturers at the time.

Often overlooked is the McLaren F1's impressive racing legacy. The GTR competition version, reaching a top speed of 220 mph, immediately demonstrated its prowess by securing first, third, fourth, and fifth positions against purpose-built racers. It left the competition astounded. By the end of production in 1998, McLaren had produced seven prototypes, seventy-two street-legal models, and twenty-eight fully-fledged race versions. Notably, the Sultan of Brunei owns a notable collection of around eight F1s, while several unfortunate examples have met their demise due to over-enthusiastic owners. Fun fact, El Chapo owned one of these legendary vehicles and it has yet to be found.

Comme son compagnon d'écurie coupé! le T.33 Spider est l'incarnation même de la philosophie Return to Beauty de GMA! mais avec un look qui promet une expérience de conduite encore plus captivante. Inspirée des designs emblématiques des années 1960 mais avec des proportions parfaites et des surfaces fluides fabriquées à partir de fibre de carbone et exécutées avec une pureté et une attention constante aux détails, c'est une supercar pas comme les autres. Pour offrir la vision de conception définie par les toutes premières esquisses, chaque surface du montant A vers l'arrière est unique au T.33 Spider, mais elle partage clairement son ADN avec le T.33. Design d'intérieur Simple, élégant, analogique : l'intérieur du T.33 incarne ces qualités déterminantes et offre un environnement véritablement axé sur le conducteur. Convenant à une supercar, le point central du groupe d'instruments est le compte-tours central de 120 mm, illuminé et résolument analogique. Calibré à 11 100 tr/min, il signale clairement le potentiel de performance du Cosworth GMA V12. De chaque côté se trouvent des écrans secondaires pour la climatisation et l'infodivertissement, ce dernier étant doté de la connectivité sans fil Apple CarPlay et Android Auto. De tels dispositifs compromettraient la conception intemporelle! donc à la place, les premiers principes ont été utilisés pour développer le système de contrôle passif de la couche limite (PBLC) du T.33 Spider. Introduit sur le T.33, le PBLC a été affiné pour le Spider. Une entrée à effet de sol à l'avant de la voiture dirige l'air à basse pression sous le plancher. Qui ce voit ensuite introduit dans un diffuseur arrière avec un conduit d'élimination de la couche limite. Châssis et suspension Comme il sied à deux voitures conçues et développées en parallèle! la T33 Spider conçue pour répondre aux mêmes objectifs exigeants de conduite, de maniabilité et de direction que la T.33.
