Botanic Sorceress: Poison Ivy's Enchanted Realm by Jade Gretz
Gotham City awoke to a suffocating blanket of emerald green. Where towering skyscrapers once pierced the sky, a dense network of thorny vines now reigned supreme. Razor-sharp leaves, shimmering with an unnatural luminescence, formed an intricate labyrinth in the heart of the metropolis. In the center of this botanical nightmare stood Pamela Isley, her emerald green eyes gleaming with a feral intelligence. She was no longer just Poison Ivy – she was the Mother, the architect of this thorny dominion.
The city was hers, a sprawling garden where she reigned supreme. Gone were the screeching sirens and the incessant rumble of traffic. In their place, the wind whispered through the leaves, a lullaby played on instruments of pain. But this wasn't a haven – it was a trap. Trapped inside were those who had wronged her – corrupt politicians, callous industrialists, anyone who had dared to exploit nature.
One such captive was Harvey Dent, the Two-Face of Gotham. He stumbled through the verdant maze, his scarred face contorted in a grotesque rictus of fear. On one side, his voice, gravelly and desperate, cursed at Ivy. On the other, a chillingly calm voice recited sonnets about the beauty of decay.
The very air within the maze pulsed with a potent toxin, a concoction brewed from Ivy's rage and the city's industrial waste. It twisted minds and amplified anxieties. For Harvey, it amplified the duality within him – a maddening choice between rage and despair.
Elsewhere, Commissioner Gordon hacked his way through the vines with a rusty machete, his face grim with determination. He knew Ivy wasn't just holding the city hostage - she was making a statement. A statement about the city's disregard for its environment, its insatiable hunger that choked the life out of the earth.
But Gordon's way was blocked by a gargantuan Venus Flytrap, its maw agape, dripping with digestive juices. Inside, two figures writhed in agony – Penguin, his expensive clothes shredded, and Scarecrow, his gas mask useless against the toxins in the air. They were unlikely allies, united only by their shar …(see the rest of the story at deviantart.com/jadegretzAI). Endure, Master Wayne. Take it. They’ll hate you for it, but that’s the point of Batman, he can be the outcast. He can make the choice that no one else can make, the right choice.

The Lazarus Pit: Unraveling the Mysteries of Immortality in Batman's Universe
Tumblr media
Within the complex tapestry of Batman's world lies a mystical and enigmatic fountain of youth known as the Lazarus Pit. This extraordinary reservoir, shrouded in mystery and danger, has been a pivotal element in the ongoing struggle between the Dark Knight and one of his most formidable adversaries, Ra's al Ghul. To comprehend the significance of this phenomenon, it is essential to delve into its history, composition, and the pivotal role it plays in the eternal clash between good and evil.
**Origins and History**
The Lazarus Pit's origins are as ancient and enigmatic as the world itself. It is said to have been created eons ago by a cabal of alchemists, whose names have been lost to the sands of time. Legends and whispers suggest that these alchemists stumbled upon a unique combination of mystical elements, harnessing the very essence of life itself. Over millennia, the knowledge of the Lazarus Pit became obscured, relegated to myth and legend.
However, it was the enigmatic figure of Ra's al Ghul who would eventually unearth this fabled source of immortality. Ra's, whose name translates to "The Demon's Head," is a centuries-old eco-terrorist with a vision of cleansing the world through catastrophic means. Possessing immense wealth, intellect, and martial prowess, Ra's al Ghul embarked on a quest to rid humanity of its perceived sins, believing himself to be its ultimate savior.
**Composition and Properties**
The Lazarus Pit's exact composition remains a closely guarded secret, known only to Ra's al Ghul and a select few loyalists within his inner circle. It is believed to contain a potent concoction of natural minerals, mystical energies, and alchemical compounds, blended in precise proportions to grant its users vitality, rejuvenation, and even resurrection from death's embrace.
Among the rumored ingredients are the rare and elusive Lazarus resin, drawn from the depths of the Earth's crust, and the mystical waters of Nanda Parbat, an ancient and mystical city hidden amidst the peaks of the Himalayas. The exact process of creating and replenishing the Lazarus Pit remains a mystery, its secrets safeguarded by Ra's al Ghul and his League of Assassins.
**The Dark Knight's Confrontation**
For Batman, the Lazarus Pit represents both a boon and a curse. While its powers offer the tantalizing prospect of immortality and healing, its very existence serves as a constant reminder of the moral ambiguity inherent in his war on crime. Batman, a staunch believer in justice and the sanctity of life, views the Lazarus Pit with a mixture of apprehension and disdain, recognizing its potential for corruption and abuse.
Throughout their long and tumultuous history, Batman and Ra's al Ghul have clashed repeatedly over the control and use of the Lazarus Pit. For Ra's, it is a tool to further his grandiose ambitions, granting him the means to outlive empires and reshape the world in his image. For Batman, it is a symbol of temptation and moral compromise, a reminder that the path to righteousness is fraught with peril and temptation.
**Conclusion**
In the annals of Batman's mythology, few artifacts hold as much significance or intrigue as the Lazarus Pit. Its ancient origins, mystical properties, and central role in the ongoing struggle between Batman and Ra's al Ghul have captivated audiences for decades. As the eternal battle between light and darkness rages on, the Lazarus Pit remains a potent symbol of humanity's enduring quest for immortality and the sacrifices made along the way.

Catwoman: Lonely City by Cliff Chiang. DC Black Label, 2022. 9781779516367. https://www.powells.com/book/-9781779516367?partnerid=34778&p_bt
Cliff Chiang (Paper Girls, Wonder Woman) handles the writing and art duties in this beautiful hardcover that DC had the good sense to print in an oversized format. It's about a fifty-something Selene Kyle aka Catwoman after she gets out of prison, ten years after Batman (and others) died on Fool's Night. Harvey Dent is Mayor of Gotham City. Barbara Gordon is running against him in an election. Police with bat-tech are exerting too much authority in the streets. And it all turns into a redemption story of sorts, a dangerous heist-like adventure that leads Catwoman and others to break into the Batcave in the name of opposing Dent and his plans for Gotham. Guest stars include many familiar faces but most notably older versions of villains Killer Croc, Edward Nigma, and Poison Ivy. (If Killer Croc doesn't make you smile I don't want to know you.)
Buy this for your adult collection but put it where teens can find it, too.
