So I entered an image from my trip east in April for a calendar contest by Gothic Noir, and it sounds like its going to be in the calendar. They selected four winners but sounds like its a 16 month so I guess I’m in. They were not very clear about it.
I am going to be published in the upcoming Gothic Noir Magazine Issue #5!

I think there is something so stark about the Australian film industry. Australian films are not for everyone. They often, like our deserts, our people and our accent, display a certain type of harshness. There is no luxurious subtle veil to the reality often depicted. It’s just there.
I can’t figure out what it is. Maybe it’s the accents. But Australian films often seem almost intolerably brutal in the honest assessment of life that they seem to depict.
I can think of only a handful of Australian films that don’t conjure up this confronted, taken aback disassociation from me (although Candy only did this minimally), and all of them seem to be from a fantasy/ gothic noir genre.
Maybe it’s just me, and maybe I’m just not used to slice-of-life movies…
