Ladies and gentlemen, may I introduce you to...

Marcy Hutchins!

They're Grace's (Harold's mom) Sibling!

Marcy's a single, independent and a caring person, they love to travel around the cities to vet new experience! Marcy always carrying around their notebook as a diary book for them to write about anything, even some recipes for cooking and baking as they are one of their hobbies!

They live on the other side of Piqua, Marcy would at least came over to Grace's house once or twice per year as they're pretty close as siblings. Marcy used to work under the Lil Wiseguy Novelty Company as someone in a team to look out over people across the country who bought and used the 3-D Hypno-Ring to always keeping in check that they're being used for good and only for fun before the company eventually closed/taken down and now they're on a hunt for a new job and a fresh start!

Around Season 2, Marcy would be working as the cafeteria staff on Jerome Horwitz Elementary for a bit and got hired by Melvinborg, and they were happy to see their little Nephew a lot often, before monster of the weeks became too much for them, leading them into quitting eventually. (Harold probably begs Marcy not to tell his mom anything about the monsters because they already got a superhero to handle them)

Their relationship with Grace are pretty close, yet Marcy have their own reasons for not being able to visit more often. Their relationship with Harold are pretty close! Marcy has always admired their sister's talent in art, and they're happy to know that those talents got passed down to her son, so they're trying their best to support the both of them.

Marcy would always ask Harold about his comics whenever they visit, despite mostly not understanding the story of the comics and with some stuff i it, they're pretty happy to see the improvement Harold got ever since he started to draw.

Underpanniversary mont September is almost over, so here’s one last headcanon dump for the road

General

The entire book series takes place in a single school year. The following is my vain attempt at cramming everything into that timeframe in a way that makes sense

The football game in Book 1 was the kickoff and happened in early August. The 4-to-6 weeks before the Ring arrived was really just 4 weeks, minimizing the Boys' slave labor and placing Captain's first day on duty in early September (not exactly the 1st but close enough)

Book 6 canonically happens during the cold and flu season (so late autumn), making it the halfway point of the school year and the series. (I just realized that it’s never shown snowing in modern-day Piqua? Maybe it only happened while the Boys were on winter break)

In Book 11, Krupp mentions there’s 7 weeks of school left. Summer break usually starts in mid-to-late May; subtracting 7 weeks from that places Book 11 in early-to-mid April

Book 12 happens in May. The Rid-O-Kid incident and sudden lack of gym teacher forced the school to close for damage control, then hold a half-day to do the yay-you’re-moving-up-a-grade stuff. (And yes, this means Captain Underpants Pizza Party didn’t happen and is merely a wistful fantasy 😔)

Also said school year is 1997-1998 (except for when I bring up any media that came out after that) because this is my post and I make the anachronisms

The Boys

Harold raises Sea Monkeys as snacks for his and George's pets

Speaking of their pets, they are NOT to be put in the same room together. George's are cats, Harold's are fish. Can I make it any more obvious

George had to stay home sick for a whole week once. when he finally came back to school, he walked in with this blasting on this boombox

George's fave computer game is Star Wars: Behind the Magic, Harold's is Insaniquarium (first the browser version, then Deluxe way later), and they both love Backyard Baseball

George's fave Disney film is A Goofy Movie. Harold didn’t have a favorite until middle school when Treasure Planet came out

The boys took Captain to see Hercules in theaters. He declared it the greatest movie of all time, so they bought it on VHS and played it in the treehouse whenever he asked. The boys kept it long after 4th grade and watched it whenever they missed him

They used to think boy bands were weird and girls were weird for liking them... until Heidi got into the Backstreet Boys. Harold caught The Fever from hearing her play their songs in the house, and George caught it from him. Their favorite song is Answer To Our Life

Harold would later joke that him catching The Fever should’ve been his wake-up call lol

The Old!Boys

In college they held a dorm party and made Jungle Juice in a (fully sanitized!!!) toilet so they could flush away the evidence after. And also just for laffs

Their kids go to Stubinville Elementary. It’s farther away and they have to take a bus, but it’s got generally better teachers than Jerome Horwitz. Go Stinkbugs

They wrote a letter to Krupp about what they did to him in 4th grade, but never sent it

Other

The Boys' parents didnt realize their families had blended together for years. It finally hit them when they asked Grandma and Grandpa to synchronize their visits. They were like "....Huh." and then went right back to setting the table

Other things both families do together: bills, carpooling, cooking, movie nights, fishing, picnics, holiday card photos at the mall

The Beards have a record player and a vinyl collection of every funk and R&B hit from 1968 to 1989. They always have one playing as background noise in the mornings and evenings. (The Hutchins like to play MTV instead)

Heidi goes to a preschool halfway across town. Robbie Hoskins (the little boy whose mom never believes him) goes there too

The Boys plan on being Heidi’s bodyguards when she starts kindergarten at Jerome Horwitz. No one’s gonna give her trouble, student or teacher, if they can help it

She can’t get in the Treehouse—not cus the Boys won’t let her, but cus she’s too small to safely climb the ladder 😔 Some day she'll get in there and eat all the hidden junk food, but not yet

I diagnose Melvin with EXTREME Gifted Kid Burnout post-canon lmao. He ends up going to the same community college as the Boys and they finally bury the hatchet there

Switching to paragraphs for this last one:

Long ago, when Krupp first started out as a principal, him and all the staff fell victim to an impossibly elaborate prank. He was excited to write his first detention slip and grilled the whole student body to find the culprit.

After threatening to hold them hostage past the last bell, a dirty blonde boy in 2nd grade came up to him and claimed responsibility. Krupp locked him in the detention room and looked for his parents' number in the school directory, but couldn't find anything under his last name.

Just then, he heard the kid make this noise. He stormed back to the detention room and opened it to yell at him... but the kid had vanished. The only sign he’d been there was his slip on the floor.

Krupp framed it in his office to preserve a milestone in his career, and vowed to crush that kid's spirit the next day.

But he never appeared at the school again.

One Night Wonder- CU Lives of AU: Chapter One (rough draft)

Harriet Grace Hutchins didn’t know what came over her. To her Benjamin Krupp was rarely even a friend, but that night she felt differently

A few years ago, she and her husband had a nasty divorce. Due to the nature of the case, it was open and shut, but feelings were more complicated. She missed Herb, but not his drunken abusive behavior, but the Herb when they got married. His over the top kind gestures, his piercing blue eyes, his warm chest…

It wasn’t like Krupp had any of those things that night or… maybe one.

There was an explosion at Jerome Hortwitz Elementary the night her son and his friends went to the Dad Dance. She had stayed home to work on her art and take care of baby Heidi. Things weee going smoothly. She had drank a glass of welches white grape sparkling non alcoholic wine. Heidi was watching Frozen for the 100th time, and she was trying a new painting technique. Drip painting. Surely it was her magnum opus, no?

But then the phone rang.

It was the schools principal, sounding panicked. Harold was injured.

“No!”

She grabbed Heidi and ran to the car as fast as she could, and she was definitely in the zone, because she was at the school in a flash.

When she was there, she noticed someone was carrying Harold out of the gymnasium.

“Benjamin?”

She had started to think Ben didn’t like them anymore, given how he had acted the last time they were at his house, but in this moment, he was the street wise Hercules, the hero she was holding out for until the end of the night. He had saved her son.

The Monday after the ordeal, she picked Harold up from school, and knew she had to sneak in a chance to talk to Ben.

“Say Ben, it was a noble thing you did for me yesterday. Oh and my son.”

“I was just doing my job.”

“I don’t think carrying children out of an explosion is part of the job description of a principal.”

“It wasn’t even a huge explosion, it was a tech malfunction. It happens in the science lab all the time. It wasn’t anything personal, the school can’t have a kids death on their hands. It makes for me budget cuts.”

“That doesn’t matter. I still wanna thank you somehow. Say, it why don’t we meet up at the Diner in two hours. I’ll even pay.”

Ben didn’t want to spill the beans he was dating Edith yet plus who can turn down free food. “Fine, but it’s not a date. It’s a thank you meeting.”

Date? Did he just say date?

In the next two hours, she ordered Harold and Heidi a pizza, told the Harold to watch Heidi while she was as gone and put on her best Spring dress. She was going on a date!

Water Gym leader Harold wants to battle!

🐬 (more information under the cut!)

His team consists of, Palafin, Popplio, Aerodactyl, Politoed and Totodile.

Each named Palafin: Captain, Popplio: Bubby, Aerodactyl: Crackers, Politoed: Mel and Totodile: Big man.

He took over the Gym after His mother couldn’t continue battling and since then he’s known as a easy going gym, though he does offer a challenge. He’s got Big Man from his mother, who was her second hand in gym battles. He’s since spoiled the Totodile with treats. He also was given her Windbreaker when she retired, which he never takes off.

His gym badges are always covered in paint, similar to his gym and each challenge ties into creating art with your Pokémon. He will hang your piece up in the gallery in the lobby of his gym. He doesn’t remove any of them no matter if you win or lose. You can even take your painting home!

His gym is first, Then George’s, then Melvins.

they made matching bracelets with each other's favorite color scheme and wear them on the hand each of them use to write/draw their comics(i headcannon Harold as ambidextrous)

please ignore that neither of them are wearing shoes, they don't go well with my style and I'm bad at drawing them anyway. i think George would wear convers, and Harold would wear either checkered vans or boots

they both make sure to keep multiple fidget toys on them at all times

after a few years of experimenting, they came to the conclusion that ADHD meds weren't for them and they refuse to take any ever

finally caught a break with teachers and have professors that let them work together on a lot of their assignments and actually enjoy having them in their classes bc of their creativity and spirit

when they were in high school, Harold really started having a rough time. he was separated from George for most of his classes, he was being picked on again, his mom was becoming more strict, the teachers just seemed to hate him and always told him to be better even when it was clear he was trying his best on his own and still failing. he hid it for as long as he could, but each day just weighed heavier and heavier on his back, and he couldn't bring himself to ask for help. not even when his report cards came back with nothing but red marks and his mother stopped letting him go to the treehouse after school. George could feel him slowly pushing him away every time he tried to get him to tell him what was up, but he didn't know what to do. on top of it all, Harold started realizing why he didn't think of girls the same way the other guys did, and he didn't know it was okay to prefer oogling at the cute boy in his science class than the hot girl in gym. after months of trying to repress it and lying to himself about who he liked, and battling his own mind in many other ways, he went and got baptized as a desperate attempt to 'fix' himself. when it didn't work and he only felt himself sinking even more, he made the attempt to take his own life. George found him on the floor of his bathroom one weekend, and managed to call the ambulance to get him to hospital just in time. Harold finally got the help he needed, accepted it, and was off the anti-depressants by the time they went into college. the scars from his attempt are still very much there, and it overwhelms him some days to see them, but they fade and are gone completely by the time the events of the last books have happened. he has a semicolon tattoo on both of his wrists, i just didn't think about it before i finished the drawing.

- As principal of Jerome Horwitz Elementary, Erica Wang has dedicated her career to making sure every child in her school gets the support they need. Under Erica's leadership, JHES is a much less depressing place, sporting features like an art program, a fully-stocked library, after school tutoring, and an actual full-time school nurse.

- Erica herself also likes to take a hands-on approach with students, taking notice of anyone who seems to be struggling either academically or socially and working together with Bo to figure out the best course of action. While her intentions are definitely in the right place and come from a sense of genuine care, she does have a habit of forgetting to ask the students themselves what they think of her ideas....

- Design note: Erica's design is a fusion of her main kid design and her future "Grace Wain" persona

- Bo Hweemuth is the school's student guidance counselor, which basically means his job is to talk to students and help get them any resources they need, both in and outside of school. Though a lot of students feel intimidated by him at first glance, he's actually a very chill guy who likes to approach students with as much kindness and empathy as he can. He knows what it's like to be treated like a nuisance.

- Besides being co-workers, Bo is actually very good friends with Principal Wang, genuinely enjoying the work they do together to make sure every child at Jerome Horwitz can thrive.... despite any misgivings he might have about her approach. And speaking of co-workers, he's also recently struck up a pretty close friendship with the school librarian....

- In his spare time, he likes to experiment with clay sculpture. His office is decorated with all the little sculptures and figures he's made over the years.

- George Beard and Harold Hutchins are known around school as That One Pair Of Teachers; they're always together and are each other's best friend, even outside of work. To their students, they're some of the funnest teachers they've had at JHES, since they prioritize making their classes into fun, engaging learning environments through creative lesson plans and treating their students like actual people. Especially George, since he teaches the traditionally "boring" subjects of English and Literature.

- George and Harold are also the current co-leads of the school Music and Arts Program, along with music teacher Dressy Killman. Harold mentors in art, while George handles creative writing. They like to joke that they're "professionals in their field," except they're not really joking about that and it's just that everybody thinks that they are because nobody knows anything about them outside of the school.....

- Design note: George and Harold already have canon adult designs, so I just added on a few accessories to distinguish their AU selves from their canon counterparts (George's suspenders, Harold's vest)

- Melvin Sneedly (that's Professor Sneedly to you) is starting his first year as Jerome Horwitz's new science teacher, after a regrettably failed attempt to get his robotics career off the ground. He absolutely does not want to be here, he hates teaching, he hates kids, the sooner he can get out of this terrible place the better.

- He's not exactly helping his case by driving away everyone who tries to connect with him, either. Instead of spending his break times in the staff lounge with everyone else, he's spending them holed away in his classroom, poring over lesson plans, reminders of his broken dreams, and.... other stuff. It's probably not a good idea to keep bringing these personal projects to work with him but then again, his science career did fail for a reason....

- Design note: the main design philosophy here is "hey, what would Melvinborg look like without the robot half.....?"

Amaro Freitas — Y’Y (Psychic Hotline)

Jazz pianist Amaro Freitas laces his fusion-y jazz with sounds of the rain forest in this expansive outing, infusing fluid reveries of keyboard with tropical rhythm and heat and intimating the sounds of water, birds and insect life. A native of Brazil’s northeastern Pernambuco state, he is as steeped in the music of rain forest peoples like the Sateré Mawé indigenous community as in the jazz canon, and he has strong connections to a global jazz scene, as demonstrated by cameos from Brandee Younger, Jeff Parker and Shabaka Hutchins. The music slips, sometimes, into soft-focus, new age-y mysticism, but at its best conveys clear-eyed wonder at the heritage human beings are in the process of destroying.

Y’Y proceeds smoothly from one cut to another, so that you are not always sure without looking about exactly where you are in its sequence. Indeed, you could think of it as one long track, flowing majestically downstream like the river that inspired it. Nonetheless, there are scenes with in it, the trebly, altered piano notes that weave through knocks and booms and twitterings in the opening “Mainguari (Encantado da Mata”) one of two cuts dedicated to Amazonian spirits. “Uiara,” the second, sets brief agitated flights of piano against the sound of wood groaning; it sounds like bird song in the midst of rain. The piano becomes more insistent as the cut goes on, hammering and pounding and making staccato chords. It pulses with life, evolving, intertwining, competing life, as abundant as the life in the jungle.

The title track is particularly good at balancing traditional, tribal sounds with the fluencies of jazz. It starts in a stretched out chant, the thump of hand-drums, a metallic clash of tonal percussion. The reedist Shabaka Hutchings plays an airy flute over this, a hoarse whisper of melody over spare percussion. The piano enters, first as a single note played again and again, and then more lavishly, with chords. The piece has an open-ended inquiry to it as the musicians explore connections between jazz and ritual music.

Tortoise guitarist Jeff Parker guests on “Mar de Cirandeiras,” dropping smooth elegiac runs into a groove set by Freitas’ playing. It’s maybe the track that sounds the closest to American jazz, but even here, a tropical heat envelops the sound. And finally, the Chicago harpist Brandee Younger takes a hand in “Glorioso,” in graceful runs and flourishes. You could hardly imagine two instruments less suited to the Amazon than piano and harp, but they flourish here, unencumbered by humidity.

Y’Y has its lovely moments, but it wallows sometimes in woo-woo-y mysticism. It’s a bit soft and cushiony, hard edges sanded down to harmless auras. That’s why “Encantados,” late in the album, is such a kick, rushing ahead on running bass and drums, piano and flute bits flying off as it takes the corners on two wheels. The Amazon may be full of gorgeous tranquility, but how nice, just this once, to hear it lift up its head and roar.

The moms peeking into the treehouse to find their sons fast asleep, pencils and papers still in hand. One mom poised on the ladder, gently passing the boys to the other mom on the ground.

The moms thanking each other for their help, thanking the stars that their families met. Their sons waking up just enough to hear it, silently thanking the stars too, but keeping their eyes shut so their moms will tuck them in.

Presenting: My Captain Underpants “Lives of AU” on Tumblr! (Part 1)

Here’s the characters!

Harold: A fun-loving creative boy with too much trauma to unpack in one fic.

George: The supportive and equally creative best friend who has his own problems.

Mr. Krupp: A passive-agressive repressed creative who became an elementary school principal before even knew it... and has mommy issues and several untreated mental illnesses, including D.I.D.

Captain Underpants (who will go by Cap): Krupp’s altar ego that gives him a way to show his care and affection for his students without fear of becoming a pushover. A result of hypnosis triggering Krupp’s D.I.D. he deals with harsh existentialism once he’s separated from Krupp.

Edith the Lunchlady: A shy lady with a passion for “cooking” who likes Krupp but... she has a secret.

Mr. Meaner: A man who walked into his position shy but soon became the most lively teacher, geniunely enjoying birthdays, school parties, and holidays as the keep him from feeling like he’s in the middle of a midlife crisis. Oh, and he likes to be an auctioneer on the side!

Grace Hutchins: Harold’s mother who was pushed by her husband’s drunken temper to divorce him and develops a broken psyche treated with terrible coping mechanisms which only begins to heal after Harold was traumatized by the creep at the gas station.

Herbert Hutchins: The black hearted loser who can’t even play in his own band, because no one likes a wife beater.. no one. But, who knows, maybe there’s an ounce of love in him.

Jerry “Senor” Citizen: The “spanish” teacher who learns spanish along with the students after faking his credentials out of desperation to get a job and stay off the streets after being kicked out of his family’s home.

Georgia and Gary Beard: George’s hard-working mother and father. Nuclear families are perfect, aren’t they...... aren’t they?
