#Great Australian Bake Off Challenge

Text
If you're tired of Great British Bakeoff fuckery like Mexican Week but it left a friendly-reality-competition-sized hole in your heart, you can also watch the same format but with flowers 💐 (Full Bloom, The Big Flower Fight), jewelry 💍 (All That Glitters), pottery🍯 (Great Pottery Throw Down), glassblowing 🍾 (Blown Away) and woodworking 🪵 (Good With Wood aka Handmade, which even has Mel Giedroyc on it).
There are also like a dozen other bakeoffs in other countries. Canada and Australia are my faves (I haven't watched the non-English language ones yet bc I can't read subtitles during work).
[Don't watch the 1st season of Australia with Kerry Vincent it is a desecration of the Bake Off name worse than anything Paul Hollywood has ever done. Straya completely course corrects after that though. Do watch the first two seasons of Canada with Dan Levy hosting and channeling all his David Rose energy into it.]
If I'm forgetting any please let me know, I am a bottomless pit of content.

Hello! would you like to recommend some interesting movies and shows that you like? I want to watch something nice but I don't know what
Yes! I have recommendations! Here are some of my favorites:
For live action TV shows:
If you like Skins, try the Norwegian show Skam (or one of its remakes) and the Australian show SLiDE. Both of them are a little hard to find but they're totally worth it. They're both character-focused dramas that center on the lives of high school students.
Euphoria a beautifully shot teen drama in the vein of Skins that deals with issues of mental health, gender, sex, and violence.
Pushing Daisies a mystery-of-the-week black comedy about a piemaker who raises the dead so that he can collect reward money for discovering how they died.
The Good Place is a philosophical comedy about a woman who is sent to heaven by mistake after she dies, and her quest to become a more moral person.
Ted Lasso is a comedy-drama about an American football coach who is sent to the UK to coach a professional football/soccer team. It's charming and optimistic, and is fun to watch regardless of whether or not you like football.
Gilmore Girls is a comedy-drama about the lives of a mother-daughter duo who are best friends. It's witty and whimsical.
Wandavision is a Marvel Comics mini-series about Wanda Maximoff/Scarlett Witch living in what appears to be a TV show. I won't say too much about this show, but it's one that ends up being deeply philosophical.
Schitt's Creek a sitcom about a wealthy family who loses their money and must move to the small town of Schitt's Creek, where they live in a motel.
Community is a sitcom about a group of friends who attend a community college together and the hijinks that ensue. It's a very quirky show. that's heavy on pop-culture references and meta-humor.
Only Murders in the Building is a newer mystery-comedy show about three strangers share an obsession with true crime and suddenly find themselves wrapped up in one.
Westworld is a philosophical dystopian science fiction neo-Western television series about a theme park where guests can indulge their wildest fantasies using lifelike androids. It deals with questions of artificial intelligence, consciousness, ethics, and free will.
Veronica Mars is a teen neo-noir mystery-of-the-week series about a high school student who moonlights as a private investigator.
Reality TV:
Great British Bake Off is a really low-key British competition show where contestants complete three baking challenges each week in the hopes of being dubbed the best amateur baker in the UK. The contestants are genuinely really nice and helpful to one another, so it's pretty chill.
Terrace House is a reality TV show where six strangers move into a house together. It's a dating show, kind of, but it's also about people making friends and following their personal and professional aspirations. It has a group of celebrity panelists who watch the show with you and then comment on what people are doing. How real it actually is is up for debate, especially in the later seasons, but it's a fun watch nonetheless.
Queer Eye is a reality TV show where five gay men give makeovers. It's focused on representation, gay culture, and self-improvement, and has a lot of really heartwarming episodes.
Anime:
Space Dandy, a Shinichirô Watanabe space opera that follows the misadventures of Dandy, an alien bounty hunter who is “a dandy guy in space”. It's mostly a comedy, but it has some episodes that I think are actually really profound.
Cowboy Bebop (the original, not the Netflix live action remake), a Shinichirô Watanabe space western that also follows a group of alien bounty hunters, but this one is in more of a neo-noir style drama that deals with themes of existential angst, loneliness, and a person's past.
The Tatami Galaxy a parallel universe show by Masaaki Yuasa that follows the adventures of a student at Kyoto University.
Night Is Short, Walk On Girl an anime movie by Masaaki Yuasa that exists in the same world as Tatami Galaxy. It's a romantic comedy and is super life-affirming. It's one of my favorite movies of all time.
Fullmetal Alchemist is a dark fantasy about teenage two brothers who are alchemists searching for the philosopher's stone.
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex: a cyberpunk spy/thriller that follows the adventures of a law enforcement unit that investigates cybercrime and terrorism cases. This has one of my favorite episodes of TV ever, Kusanagi's Labyrinth, which I really recommend everyone watches on its own even if you don't end up watching the rest of the show.
Keep Your Hands off Eizouken! A slice of life, teen comedy that follows a group of high school girls who have an eizouken (film club). This show is a love letter to the process of making animated movies and it's so, so beautiful.
Western Animation:
Adventure Time is a surreal, coming of age, fantasy-adventure comedy-drama that follows the adventures of brothers Finn the Human and Jake the Dog in a magical, post-apocalyptic world.
Movies:
Before Sunrise is a romantic drama that follows Jesse and Celine as they meet on a Eurail train and disembark in Vienna to spend the night together.
Amelie is a whimsical romantic comedy film that follows Amelie, a shy waitress who decides to change the lives of those around her for the better while struggling with her own isolation.
Her is a science-fiction romantic drama about a man who falls in love with his artificially intelligent virtual assistant.
Anything Taika Waititi, especially Hunt for the Wilderpeople and Boy. Both are slice of life, coming of age movies. They're sentimental, whimsical, and angsty. Boy is about a young boy's life and his relationship with his ex-con father. Hunt for the Wilderpeople is about a juvenile delinquent who was abandoned by his mother and goes to live on a remote farm.
Only Lovers Left Alive is a comedy-drama film about a centuries-long romance between two vampires.

A Challenge to You and Your BBQ's!
January 26th may be the date that Australians celebrate their great country, but it is also a day that pays great homage to the importance of other significant Australians- Our BBQ's!
Australia Day and Australian BBQ's represent everything true and right about Australia, Australians and its underlying psyche- sun, surf, socializing, sausages, sangas, saltwater, sunscreen, steak, sauce and so much more.
Tumblr media
It is time to embrace our BBQ's and honor them on a more regular basis- they deserve it and so do you. Invite over your friends, family, neighbours and strangers and take the BBQ challenge, which is go forth and BBQ like you have never BBQed before. BBQ's are designed to be used so use them for every meal of the day from breakfast to dessert for a period of 24 hours. See how you go. Let those BBQ's truly impress you once more with their talent, endurance, performance under pressure and expert ability to heat.
Scratching your head in wonder over the BBQ Challenge? Well don't despair because yes BBQ's can be used to produce quality tasty dishes for every meal of the day- including morning and afternoon tea. Below is a sample menu to help you and your BBQ's get started on this great challenge:
BREAKFAST The first and most important meal of the day should be confronted with the simple is best philosophy. BBQ's are perfect for breakfast and seem to be specifically designed for a simple hot breakfast of bacon, eggs, chipolatas, tomato and toast. BBQ's and Breakfast is a match made in heaven. An easy start to your BBQ challenge!
Tumblr media
MORNING TEA You cannot get any more Aussie than scones cooked on BBQ's. Can it be done you say? Absolutely! BBQ's are hot, very hot and are the perfect environment for the cooking of scones. Simply create your favourite scone mixture, shape and then place on your BBQ's hotplate. Ensure you turn them so that heat is distributed evenly and your scones can develop a beautiful golden colour. Have the jam and cream ready as these morsels of aussieness are best eaten hot of the BBQ's hotplate.
LUNCH You can't go pass a traditional burger when it's been cooked to perfection of a BBQ. BBQ's are great for cooking burger fillings- chicken, beef, bacon, eggs- and for heating your burger buns and colouring them with those beautiful charred lines. Burgers cooked on BBQ's will ensure your guests are satisfied.
AFTERNOON TEA As with morning tea your might think that creating an afternoon tea on your BBQ is tricky, but its not. BBQ's are perfect for creating perfectly round, perfectly cooked pikelets or pancakes. Large hotplates not only disperse heat evenly but also have enough space to cook many pikelets or pancakes at once. Create your favourite batter then let your BBQ's show you all how simple and easy creating a yummy afternoon tea is. Serve with fresh fruit, icing sugar and lemon, or a scoop of ice cream. Perfection!
DINNER BBQ's are perfect for cooking meat, but instead of the traditional steak and sausages why not take advantage of your hooded BBQ and do a roast. A slow cooked piece of lamb, pork or beef along with roast vegetables and gravy will make you many new friends. The beauty of this meal is that it utilises all of your BBQ's capabilities- roasting, boiling, searing, slow cooking and enticing.
Tumblr media
DESSERT Struggling to think of a unique Aussie dessert that you can cook on your BBQ's? Well struggle no more. The answer is simple- a BBQ Pavlova! Yes it can be done, but you do need to use a BBQ that has a hood. Heat your BBQ to 150°C. Create your Pavlova mixture. Soak a terracotta tile in water for around 20-30 minutes then remove any excess water. Place this tile in the heated BBQ and then cover with baking paper. Place your Pavlova mixture on top of the baking paper. Close the hood and let cook for about 45-90 minutes- don't check it too often as the BBQ's heat will escape. The Pavlova is cooked when the outside is hard and meringue-like. Once it is cooked turn your BBQ off and let it cool inside. Serve your BBQ's Pavlova with cream and fresh fruit.
COFFEE No dessert is complete without a nice cup of coffee. Truly impress your guests in the BBQ challenge and pull out your stove top espresso maker. The BBQ's hot plate is the perfect place to heat your stove top espresso maker and entice your guests once more to the BBQ. Have a couple of espresso makers going at once to ensure there is enough BBQ coffee for everyone.
BBQ'sare wonderful additions to any Australian lifestyle and home

Spiced Lamb and Feta Pides
Tumblr media
Staying home means more time for baking, and I’m here for it! So yes, the Great Commonwealth Bake Off Challenge (where I challenge myself to one of the week’s bakes in the latest Great British, Australian, Kiwi and Canadian Bake Offs!) is still on-going. To be fair, I’ve baked this contribution to Spice Week in the Great Aussie Bake Off shed a while ago. I just haven’t had Wifi since mid-February. Nevertheless, I am quite looking forward to Easter Lunch lamb leftovers, so I could make these Spiced Lamb and Feta Pides again!
And although pides, or rather pideler are much more than “Turkish Pizza”, which I can tell without having ever travelled to Istanbul (sadly) or even having had a pide before, I made the dough following my favourite Pizza Dough recipe, because it needs a basic bread-type dough, and that’s what pizza dough is, after all!
 Ingredients (serves 2):
1 tablespoon olive oil
185 grams/6.5 ounces lamb leg steak
½ large red bell pepper
1 small onion
1 garlic clove, minced
2 fluffy sprigs flat leaf-parsley
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
½ teaspoon ground cumin
½ teaspoon dried thyme
¼ teaspoon Red Chili Flakes
6 cherry tomatoes
a pinch of salt
320 grams/11.30 ounces fresh Pizza Dough
55 grams/2 ounces Feta Cheese
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 teaspoon sesame seeds
½ dozen fresh mint leaves
lemon wedges, to serve
In a large, nonstick skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Cut lamb into small chunks, and fry quickly in the hot oil, a couple of minutes, until browned. Transfer lamb to a plate, leaving fat in the skillet; set aside.
Return skillet over medium-high heat. Chop red bell pepper, and add to the skillet. Cook, a couple of minutes, until softened.
Peel and finely chop onion, and stir into the skillet. Cook, 2 minutes more. Stir in garlic.
Finely chop parsley, and stir into the skillet, along with smoked paprika, ground cumin, dried thyme, and Red Chili Flakes. Reduce heat to medium, and cook, a few minutes.
Halve three cherry tomatoes, and stir into the skillet. Add pinch of salt. Then, stir in reserved lamb, coating well in the spices. Remove from the heat, and let cool completely.
Preheat oven to 190°C/375°F. Line a baking tray with baking paper.
Divide Pizza Dough into two equal portions, and, roll each portion out onto a lightly floured surface, into an oval shape. Place them onto prepared baking tray.
Spoon spiced lamb mixture in the centre of each Dough oval. Halve remaining cherry tomatoes, and scatter them on top. Crumble Feta Cheese generously on top. Then, fold the edges of each oval over the lamb mixture, twisting and pinching the ends hard, to give it a boat shape.
Brush the edges with egg wash, and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Place in the middle of the hot oven, and bake, at 190°C/375°F, 15 to 19 minutes, until crust is a lovely golden brown colour.
Finely chop mint leaves. Once baked, sprinkle Spiced Lamb Pides with chopped mint and serve with lemon wedges. Eat hot!

Spring has Sprung and Life Continues: Week 11, Spain
Another week spent in the Catalunyan countryside as coronavirus lockdown continues. Here are my reflections on the arrival of spring, broad beans, ecological economics and the launch of ‘The Hundred Miler’.
Tumblr media
This last week has seen the welcome face of April - signalling that spring is certainly here along with the arrival of Easter. It’s a time associated with new life, new starts, sunny days and longer nights. Even though we remain in full lockdown here in Spain, it feels as though we can draw upon the changing season as a source of assurance.
The week started with something rather special. I finally got to drive Suzi!
When we first bought the van in Summer 2019, I was still only 24, and it was really expensive to get me insured on it. There seems to be a transition point for insurers at age 25, so George and I had always agreed that after my birthday at Christmas, we’d get me on the insurance. But we never got around to it, partly because of the additional expense, and partly because it wasn’t a huge priority, until the start of March. And then of course, we were in Valencia and the lockdown hit, so we had nowhere to drive to even once I was insured!
My first drive here in Catalunya was pretty fun, even though it was just a trip to the supermarket. Because we’re in lockdown, the roads are super quiet which has been great, and the roads around the cottage aren’t tarmaced, so I could do some offroading as well. I’ve since driven a couple more times to and from the supermarket, and it’s so nice to be behind the wheel again. I haven’t driven since we owned our last van, Casper, back in Sydney!
Tumblr media
(Images, left to right) My first time driving Suzi the HiAce, and a throwback to driving our last van Casper.
On the topic of Sydney, I have been doing some serious reminiscing. It’s almost coming to exactly a year since George and I flew back to the UK from Australia, and anniversaries always tend to bring on waves of nostalgia. It’s mad to think that a year ago, we didn’t own a van, not least have a clue about where we’d be living in the van! And of course, there’s no way I’d have imagined that we would be stuck amid a pandemic-induced global lockdown. Oh, to have the gift of foresight...
The year that ensued after we left our friends, jobs, and security blanket of Sydney was an absolute rollercoaster. We naively aimed to have the van built and prepped in a matter of months, and when the van-build rolled over towards Christmas 2019, I felt like an absolute failure for not having finished it sooner. And yet now, upon reflection, I guess it’s not such a bad achievement to have managed to buy and build Suzi the HiAce, both of us get jobs in Manchester and move into a flat there, launch our documentary channel ‘Broaden’ and set off for Europe all in a year.
We can all benefit from a bit of self-reflection to put progress into perspective.
youtube
(video) Broaden’s latest video; an overview of who we are and what we’re about. It’s helped me to reframe some of the successes of this last year.
I feel like a stuck record, but food is a wonderful experience which punctuates the repetitive days of lockdown. Last week I wrote about calçots, a deliciously sweet spring onion special to this region and eaten with Romesco sauce. This week, it’s all about broad beans. The garden here is full of them, so I’ve been tasked with picking and podding. Most of them are fat enough to be podded, and are even better if you go the extra mile by blanching them and removing their skins. The smaller ones can be eaten as they are, and make for a lovely crunchy stir-fry ingredient too.
Preparing broad beans can be time-consuming, but also a wonderfully cathartic activity. My granny in Scotland used to have plenty of these beans in her garden, and I remember summer days spent picking and podding with my mum. We’ve stored plenty here in the freezer but have also kept some fresh and I am continually finding ways to incorporate them into our meals. A quick call to my well-resourced mum also resulted in her sending pages and pages photographed from Jane Grigson’s vegetable book: not only with plenty of recipes but incredibly detailed descriptions of the vegetable’s history and qualities too.
Tumblr media
(images) Beautiful fresh veggies from the market were a highlight of the week, as well as picking these broad beans straight from the garden. The bowl on the right is what was distilled from podding four huge bags’ worth.
The resurgence in cooking and baking whilst in lockdown is inspiring, but I’ve been thinking about how it affects our supply chains as well.
Just this morning on BBC News I saw an article about dairy farmers having to throw away vast amounts of milk as cafes, hotels and restaurants remain shut, and another article about how there’s been an insane increase in demand for flour, as everyone takes to home baking. Many mills are now working around the clock to meet the demand in the UK and I was especially interested to read that even if there’s enough flour that there’s a shortage of packaging, because usually only 4% of flour produced goes into the smaller bags that we see on supermarket shelves.
Coronavirus has triggered so many changes in how we live and how we behave, that it's wreaking havoc on supply chains like this, and of course, the economy. That said, whilst the negative effects are hard to deny, scientists, economists and ecologists alike are suggesting that we should leverage the situation as an opportunity to reflect on how we all live, and how we might return to ‘normal’ life without just returning to business as usual. I agree: this is a unique opportunity to reassess production and consumption, how we assign value to things, and the economic and political models that we use to govern our world.
The connection between global lockdown, coronavirus, climate change and our economy has really got me thinking.
I recently read an incredible article by ecological economist Simon Mair in Singularity Hub which looked at this relationship. The article pulled together disparate strands that have been on my mind for a while, each related to various books which I’ve been reading, and which I can now see are interconnected. Simon suggests that the Covid-19 crisis could be a chance to “expand our economic imagination”. He explains that coronavirus, like climate change, demands a type of downscaling, counter to the ‘wartime economy’ mentality and massive upscaling of production.
“If we want to be more resilient to pandemics in the future (and to avoid the worst of climate change) we need a system capable of scaling back production in a way that doesn’t mean loss of livelihood”, says Simon.
The article is full of gems, and Simon explores things such as our current addition to economic growth and productivity, the transfer of healthcare and labour goods out of the market and into the hands of the state, and the social forms that could come from an ethic that values care, life, and democracy. It answers some of the questions posed by George Monbiot in ‘How Did We Get Into This Mess?’, echoes some of the radical economic theories proposed by Kate Raworth in ‘Doughnut Economics’, and parallels ideas of democratic market socialism put forward by ‘How to Be an Anti-Capitalist in the 21st Century’ by Erik Olin Wright which I’m currently reading. Simon’s article has really got me so fired up, in fact, that I’m working on an idea for a new video which explores the topic, so watch this space.
Tumblr media
(images) Three fantastic books which I highly recommend.
On the subject of videos, Broaden has been one of the only things keeping us sane! I am eternally grateful to have a creative outlet in times like these, and one which involves a collaborative partnership with George too. Whilst we aren’t able to explore places in the van, or capture footage for new films as we’d love to be doing right now, we are at least able to edit from the cottage and work on promoting the content that we are already releasing.
It feels so tricky to get the right tone when releasing videos during a global pandemic.
We are both conscious of remaining sensitive to the severity of the health crisis, whilst balancing that with the reality that life goes on, and that people still want to see pictures, watch videos and read articles that engage with other topics too. As Broaden, George and I obviously made the decision to launch our documentary ‘The Hundred Miler’ during this time, and I hope that people see it as a celebration of running, the natural world, and human resilience, and perhaps even an escape from the daily news of the virus, rather than something insensitive or badly-timed.
youtube
(video) Trailer for ‘The Hundred Miler’
‘The Hundred Miler’ comes out this Saturday 11th April, and we have been overwhelmed by the response already. People have really got behind the project, helping to share it on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube and widen its potential reach. George has been making this film for well over three years, so it feels like an immense milestone to finally have it shown to the world. I don’t think I know many people who hold themselves to such high standards as George, and so to have so many positive messages and people planning to tune in for the live premier on Saturday is the best affirmation of all his hard work that I could wish for. It has been a pleasure to see him create this documentary, and also to have been involved in the production and final stages of its creation.
The Hundred Miler is a film about three Australian guys, taking on the biggest race of their lives; UTMB.
‘Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc’ is renowned in the trail-running world, as one of the most challenging and scenic ultra marathons. The Hundred Miler is an attempt to bring this story to the masses, and we hope that it appeals to non-runners and runners alike, for its underlying themes of companionship, commitment and strength. It premiers live on YouTube at 10am in the UK, which is 7pm in Australia on 11.4.20, and after that the video will be available to watch as a normal video. You can find BTS footage and more information about the film on our Instagram here, details of the launch on the Facebook event here, and the link for the video itself here. You can also subscribe to Broaden’s YouTube channel and set a reminder for when the film goes live.
youtube
(video) ‘The Hundred Miler’ which goes live on Sat 11th April.
It goes without saying: I am really missing the open road and living in a van. And I’m not immune to fear of the future either. But as the days and weeks pass, we learn to adapt to changing circumstances and continue to find hope among them. In a way, it helps to know we are all in the same boat, facing a topsy-turvy life full of roadblocks and revelations. Thanks for tuning in to read my weekly ramblings and I hope you’re all keeping as well as you can be. Until next week!

Idun; Official WIP Post
Storyline
The Great Goddess, Idun, marks her chosen few with a birthmark that gives them the ability to see her children; the magical creatures of the world. Alicia Jae, currently taking a gap year with her brother, Ethan, has the Mark of Idun - in fact, she has one of the most powerful marks in existence - but has inexplicably suppressed the ability from a young age. At least; up until now. After being attacked by masked soldiers from a powerful organisation, she begins to regain the ability.
But the attack has lead Alicia and Ethan to believe that their little sister is in danger, and rush to protect her, against the advice of the mysterious Ari, who saved them from the soldiers. But they now must undertake a dangerous cross country journey through forests infested with the Children of Idun. What is waiting for them at the end of the journey? Can Ari be trusted? Can Alicia trust anyone?
Can she even trust her own brother?

The Delay (Dean x Reader) - Part 2
Tumblr media
Summary: The reader finds a way to pass some time at the airport.
Pairing; Dean x Australian!Reader
Word Count: 1.5K
Warnings; None
Author’s Note; I hope you liked part one! This part has some portions that I’m really proud of :) Enjoy!
Author’s Note 2: I might have said some things about some Brooklyn 99 characters, which was just for some dialogue! I like all B99 characters equally, I promise!
Read Part 1 here!
For some stupid reason, you wanted to know how nervous-dude was doing. Nope. Just the same. Still just sitting, eyes flitting around the airport. He looked miserable. Maybe he really disliked flying. There was something in your head telling you to make the situation better. Of course, the other part of you wondered why you had to. There was no incentive to help the man out, other than the fact that you were too kind for it to be normal.
You turned around to get the barista’s attention, calling out, “Could you please split the croissant into two parts?”
You kept telling your brain to shove off as it dragged your feet across the hall, the thudding in your heart getting louder and louder. Your brain didn’t seem to be listening, though, because before long you were holding out one part of the croissant, held in a tissue, to nervous-guy.
“Some food might help,” You said as he turned his attention to you, letting yourself sit down next to him before he could say anything, “My name’s Y/N.”
“Dean, thanks." He didn't wait a single second, taking a (large) bite out of the baked good almost immediately. "Damn, I was hungry," he said, mouth full of food. He turned towards you. “Seriously, thanks. I owe you one.”
You were yet to take a bite out of your croissant. You smiled, “Would you like this half also?”
Dean squinted, turning his head sideways. He had an ashamed smile on his face, his hand scratching his head. “No, I—”
“You owe me one,” you cut him off, smiling.
Dean looked at the ground, smiling. “I owe you one.” He looked back up at you, his eyes bright. “I’ll make it a big one.”
You laughed. You weren’t quite sure what Dean meant by that.
“Seriously. Just wait till mealtime.”
“Whatever you say,” you played along, handing over the other half of your croissant, balancing your coffee tumbler on your thigh. You could hear Dean fishing for something in his backpack, mumbling to himself.
“Aha!” You heard him exclaim after a few seconds. “Y/N, would you like a kiss?”
“Excuse me?” You asked, turning your head towards him, only to find him holding a tiny little Hershey’s kiss in his hand. You dropped your shoulders, feeling like an idiot. “Yes, please. Thank you.” You said, taking it and ripping it open. Dean spoke up as you savored the taste of the tiny chocolatey button on your tongue.
“You going to San Francisco for work?”
“I live there.” You crossed your arms over your chest, slumping in your seat.
“Ah. With your family?”
“Um, my fiance.” You said, clearing your throat as you slowly stood up. “My luggage is back there,” you said, pointing awkwardly to where your luggage was.
“Oh, bring it here,” Dean said casually.
“Yeah?”
“Yeah. I could really use the company, if you couldn’t already tell.” He grinned.
You went back to retrieve your luggage, bringing it over to where Dean was sitting. You skipped the seat right next to his — where you were sitting earlier — choosing instead to sit one seat away.
It seemed like Dean had other plans. He immediately moved to that seat, so you were sitting right next to each other. You could smell the sweetness of his leather jacket, finding it strangely comforting.
“We don’t have to talk or anything…” Dean said, sounding nervous. “I just felt a little lonely.” He rubbed the back of his neck. “Actually, you know what, it’s fine if you go back. It was silly of me to call you here.”
“No, no worries, Dean. It’s fine.” You assured him.
Dean smiled wide. “I like how you say my name in your accent.”
You didn’t know what to say, so you simply shot him a smile back, feeling the tips of your ears get warm. You didn’t generally get compliments like that, even in San Francisco. The only person you could remember having said that was Austin. Wow, seems like everything today was drawing your mind to either Dean or Austin.
“What about you?” You asked, seeing no harm in striking up a conversation. “Going to San Fran for work?”
“You call it San Fran?” Dean asked, the corners of his mouth turning up slightly. “I live there too.”
“San Francisco is such a mouthful!” You countered, continuing after taking a breath, “What do you do?”
“Freelance advertising. It’s not too bad. You?”
You sighed, chuckling through your words, “Actuarial analysis.”
“Aaahhh,” Dean drawled out, not sounding too pleased. “What do you wish you did?” He asked slowly as if asking you a big secret. He turned his body towards yours, gripping the sidebar of his chair. You looked right back at him, staring into his forest green eyes.
“I wanted to go to clown school,” you whispered, your face completely serious.
Dean’s expression changed to one of confusion. “Oh,” he said, inspecting your face for a few more seconds to see if you were joking. When you remained serious, he went on, “Wow. That’s nice,” he nodded, smiling. You stared at each other for a few seconds before Dean said comfortingly, “I think you’d make a good clown,” he clicked his tongue, shooting you a thumbs up.
“I think so too, thank you, Dean!” You said, slapping his hand. “I’d make a beautiful clown.”
“Yeah,” Dean said at that, raking his eyes all over your face.
“It’s a shame I was joking,” you said, finally breaking into a smile.
Dean’s face broke into relief. “Oh!” He exclaimed, “Wow, you really managed to keep a straight face.” He watched you with a smile as you laughed, saying, “Acting?”
You sighed, nodding. “Not a very stable profession.”
“No, it’s not.” Dean crossed his arms, turning to look forward again, slumping into his chair with his arms crossed.
“What about you, Mr…”
“Winchester.”
“Winchester,” You mused, liking the sound of that on your tongue. “What about you, Mr. Winchester?”
“Music. Or cars.”
“As in, mechanic?”
“I don’t exactly know,” Dean said in a wondrous tone. “I just love cars. So much.”
“Do you have a fancy car?”
“Yes,” he said, breaking into a smile. “Her name’s Baby.”
“Baby,” You repeated.
“Everything sounds so nice in an Australian accent,” Dean said through a smile, “Can you say ‘baby’ again?”
Dean’s enthusiasm was amusing to you. “Baby,” you said again.
Dean’s voice dropped, almost unnoticeably. “Say my name. My full name.”
You smiled at him for a few seconds, observing the happy glint in his eyes. You felt weird. Not a bad weird. A strange, happy weird. “Dean Winchester.” You drew the syllables out.
“Dean Michael Winchester!”
“Dean Michael Winchester,” you threw your hands out to your sides, your voice filled with grandiose. You and Dean laughed for a moment. “Not to shit on America of anything, but things don’t as good in an American accent.”
“Try me,” Dean rubbed his hands together, rolling up his sleeves.
“Y/N Y/M/N Y/L/N.” You said, a challenging expression on your face.
Dean repeated, somehow managing to make it sound nice. You were almost sure he winked as he said your name, which you tried to brush off. You brought a hand to the back of your name, rubbing to try to alleviate the funky tension coursing through your body. “It doesn’t sound nearly as nice in when my fiance says it.”
“Well, your fiance isn’t trying hard enough,” Dean said playfully.
Your face fell. Dean’s words rung a little truer than he had meant to make them sound. He was right. You looked at your feet, biting your bottom lip.
“Y/N,” Dean called out, his voice sounding distant, till he put a hand on your shoulder to get your attention. “I’m so sorry, Y/N, I hadn’t meant it like that.” He rubbed lightly, trying to offer comfort — which he somehow managed. “I’m sure your fiance is a great guy.”
“Austin.”
“Austin is a great guy, I’m sure. I’m so sorry.”
“No, it’s alright,” you said, trying to smile. “It’s just… Austin’s birthday is tomorrow, and I had to plan a party for him. He’s going to be upset now.”
“Oh, you won’t be there to celebrate with him.”
Yes, that too. You almost said it out loud.
Dean could sense your uneasiness. He clapped his hands, trying to bring some levity the conversation. “Okay. Favorite movie. Shoot.” He shot one hand ahead of him, looking right at it. There was a middle-aged man who was watching Dean, slightly repulsed. You smiled internally at Dean’s goofiness, thinking.
“Um, Sunset Boulevard? Yeah, Sunset Boulevard.”
“Hm. MIne’s DIe Hard.”
“Which one?”
“Can’t pick one, they’re all frigging amazing.”
“Jake Peralta,” you scoffed.
“Hey, no,” Dean said, turning towards you once again. “I’m more of a Terry.”
Your mouth fell open. “I haven’t known you for too long, but you’re a total Peralta. And there’s nothing wrong with that!” You argued.
“Says the Amy Santiago.”
“Says the Rosa.” You corrected.
“Please. Actuarial analysis? You’re a total Amy. And there’s nothing wrong with that.” He mocked you.
You laughed. A proper belly laugh. It had been a while since you’d enjoyed yourself this much simply having a conversation. You stared at Dean, taking it all in for a moment.
“What?” Dean smiled.
“I’m having fun, y’know? Sitting here with you.”
“I’m having fun too,” Dean smiled — almost shyly. He bumped shoulders with you.
“No, I’m having real fun. I have a very busy, almost sad life. I hardly get to just sit and talk to someone. I’m glad I came over and gave you that croissant.”
“I’m glad I took it,” Dean said. His cheeks looked rosy. Was he… was he blushing?
“Y’know, I think it’s mealtime in San Fran,” Dean said, putting emphasis on the last two words.
You shot him a glare, “It may be.”
“I said I would make it special.”
“Yes, you did.”

11 Questions
I got tagged in a bunch of these, so I’m doing them in one go XD
@aliteraryprincess‘s questions
What was your most anticipated book of 2018?  Did it live up to your expectations? Muse of Nightmares by Laini Taylor!!! And yes, it did. I thought it was amazing, great book and great conclusion.
What’s your first read of 2019? Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy by Mackenzi Lee
Any favorite TV shows based on books? I’m more about comic books becoming tv series. I was into The 100 for a while, but I dropped it in season 3.
What was the last book you read in translation? Oh, The Mulatto maybe? It’s a short story and I’m pretty sure it was originally written in French. I liked it a lot and it was about slavery and a low key thriller.
If you could have a pet from any book/series, what would you want? Okay, so he’s not a pet, he is Sylvie’s best friend, but Ebon from Pegasus. Because I will always want a pegasus bff.
Are there any genres that you never read? I say horror, but I read the more psychological stuff. And I rarely read non fiction, but I will read it every now and then. I keep saying I’ll never read New Adult again, but I keep getting intrigued by the synopsis and I’m always disappointed.
Do you have a favorite classic? Anne of Green Gables is a classic, right? Cause that’s my favorite. But I like quite a few.
What book-to-movie adaptation would you completely remake?  Why? Percy Jackson!!! Although, I’d just record the musical, which was brilliant on 18 different levels. The movie completely missed the point of the books, misinterpreted all the characters, and  the plot made no sense??? Musial was much better.
What was your least favorite read of 2018? Enemies Like These by PK Gardner, maybe? It was painful to read.
Are there any authors whose books you automatically buy no matter what? Brigid Kemmerer and Sarah Rees Brennan.
What was the last book you bought? I don’t buy many books. I either get them at book sales or on a rare treat. I usually go to the library. But I think it was .69 for the complete collection of Anne of Green Gables as an e collection. Or the short story Atoning by Kelley Armstrong, spin off to Darkest Powers. Can’t remember which I bought first. Unless you want to count books I buy for school. Then The Last September, which I never read.
@booklisted‘s questions
1. Who do you always trust to give you book recommendations? My mom XD. Although are tastes have started to differ more as I have gotten older.
2. What do you look for in a bookstore? I don’t go to book stores. And theres only one local one and it’s . . . fine. But I don’t trust BAM.
3. What is a book you loved as a child, only to go back to it as an adult and not like? Turns out baby me and adult me see eye to eye on most books. This wasn’t when I was a child per se, but I did like House of Night when I first read it and now I hate it. The whole series is ridiculous. I read EIGHT of them, what a waste of time.
4. What is a book you thought you were going to hate, but then were surprised by? Hmmm, most classics I like. I didn’t expect to love The Storyteller as much as I do. Thought it was going to be predictable fluff.
5. What book did you identify with most strongly as a teenager? Like, every other book I picked up.
6. Did you have phases of reading certain types of books growing up? Describe them! I haven’t outgrown any reading phases. I still love fantasy, children’s and YA. I just keep expanding them.
7. Have you ever received a book as a present or recommendation which you didn’t like? Did you tell the person? Pretty sure yes. But I can’t think of any examples.
8. Have you met any of your favourite authors? If so, who? I met V E Schwab at a book signing. She was nice.
9. If you are reading something written originally in a different language, how much do you care about the translation/translator? A lot!!! I started this one book, The Book Jumper. The translation was sloppy and stiff and choppy. It felt like a child wrote it. I couldn’t read more than a few chapters. The Storyteller was stunningly translated, straight up lyrical. Very easy to read and I got lost in the writing. Pretty sure they were both German too.
10. What is the strangest book you’ve ever read? Hm. I want to say The Dust of 100 Dogs by A. S. King. It was about a girl who was cursed to live 100 lives as a dog before she could be human again. Most of it was her 102nd life when she was a girl again. She referenced her past lives, and went to search for her treasure and her hopefully reincarnated boyfriend. Not bad. But strange.
11. One book you would give a 12y/o child to read? One??? Kiki Strike: Inside the Shadow City by Kristen Miller cause it’s amazing and most people give 12 year olds books about boys and a lot of the same ones over and over.
@thereadingchallengechallenge‘s questions
What’s your favourite book at the moment? I always go back to The Name of the Wind
Did you read all the books you wanted to in 2018? Lol NOPE
Did you discover any new favourite authors or books this year?
Any book recommendations? We could be here all day, just check myy-book-recs tag for more detailed recs.
What’s your favourite fairy tale? Probs Beauty and the Beast
Are you looking forward to any new releases? Brigid Kemmerer’s new book
What genre do you read the most? YA cause I can’t stop
What’s your favourite book-to-movie adaptation? Stardust cause I like the movie more. And To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before.
Any reading or book-related goals for 2019? My goodreads challenge is like 70 books.
What do you think will be your last read of 2018? It was Dumplin
Have you read any books by Australian authors? Yes, Marianne Curley who wrote the Guardians of Time. A few others, but I forget them now.
@darkestwings‘s questions
Do you have any pets? Nope
What is your favorite thing about winter? SNOW!!! COLD!!!! BLANKETS!!!! COCO!!!!
What was the last book you read? Puddin’ by Julie Murphy
Talk about a fictional character who inspires you. Recently, Millie from Puddin’. She is so motivated and organized and determined and optimistic. I adored her!!!
What is your number one pet peeve? I don’t know, so many things. Chewing with your mouth open bothers me to no end
What is something you are proud of? . . . I can cook okay and bake better.
Share some good advice you have received. It’s okay to fail
What is the last thing you bought (not counting groceries)? Movie tickets to Mary Poppins Returns
Share the most useless piece of trivia you know. Dolly Parton was inspired to write “I Will Always Love You” after she wanted to leave a business relationship. Also, Elvis wanted the rights to the song but wasn’t willing to give her royalties. Whitney Housten made a much better deal, both crediting her and bringing the song to new levels.
What was your first job? I volunteered at a library
What rating system do you use for books? Five stars but I just kind of wing it. I’m not crazy consistent.

The National Workout As well as Athletics Trainers Organization Includes Sporting activity Doing yoga Accreditation.
http://femeiefericita.info has 11 years of knowledge in sales, management and consulting in the sporting activities field. Exams can be purchased online at off ₤ 99 and is additionally on sale all over the country at High Street sporting activities nutrition outlet Met-Rx (previously GNC) and David Lloyd Clubs. I merely do this along with the meals he generates your house, which is actually extra processed as well as has even more mind changing chemicals. Or merely go back as well as reactivate with full week 1. The food is actually all wonderful and I have located a considerable amount of great reduced carb dishes on Pinterest. I generally confined the carb-reloading time to 12-18 hrs after a glycogen deficiency exercise on Saturdays, though I trying out moderate Wed evening carb-ups while instruction for sports like kickboxing. They also highlight particular tips and also approaches for creating a productive organisation via advertising as well as. client loyalty along with how you can integrate yoga exercise into sporting activity instruction programs. http://femeiefericita.info must be bought in the time before, pardon me why would certainly I be actually doing that as well as how could possibly I for an unpredicted excursion to the cafeteria. Possibly your butt isn't really higher adequate or even your leg isn't really straight good enough, or one thing like that. I played with LCHF for about 2 weeks as well as before I understood that was actually back on the carb merry-go-round. And also they're designating their foods items with the amounts of healthy protein, body fat, carbohydrate, glucose, salt and also electricity material each serve as well as per ONE HUNDRED grams of meals - as needed through law. I have uncovered that when I eat MSG not only perform I get anxious reactions and also problem resting, yet likewise leg and also foot aches at night that are actually often devastatingly excruciating. When the upgrade has actually been released through Apple, you'll obtain reddish, yellow and also environment-friendly illuminations accordinged to the amount of carbohydrate remains in each food. If your blender or food processor or food mill warms up to a lot, this may cause that to occur. Real meals doesn't need to be actually elevated in synthetic, inhumane atmospheres, like much of our creature products are at presents. AAP representatives said some little ones start their pay attention to one sport as early as 7 years of age, playing year-round on several staffs along with taking a trip teams. I consider on my own to be enlightened concerning food and nutrition, however in unhappy February I commonly battled to ignore the alarm song from convenience food! In a mixer or wee food mill, zap with each other the banana, water, syrup, sugar-cinnamon, vanilla, and ocean sodium until smooth. When I was like ... 15, my (singular) sporting activities bra straight today is one that I got. I assume this is actually sized for concerning a 38C-D, certainly not the 40DDD I am right now. In a different study, published in the British Diary of Athletics Medicine, scientists kept track of 13 high school soccer gamers, assessing how usually as well as exactly how hard they received struck in the scalp. I fully concur that if our team are visiting be angry, we must be angry at this body weight as well as food items infatuated culture - Not at that's sufferers. The additional years you are actually associate with endurance sports the much faster the physical fitness comes back. Also as just recently as 1994, females were still outlawed from participating in the sporting activity due to the British Amateur Punching Association. I have gotten on this LCHF means of healthy and balanced consuming for approximately 14 weeks right now therefore far to date have actually shed a total from 58 extra pounds, I adore the food items as well as passion by doing this from eating. I discovered how to love food items once again and I am actually therefore thankful for all the knowledge used at the Institute from Culinary Nourishment. This is difficult due to the fact that it pushes right into finding those sorts of foods which fit in with the ketogenic diet. There are actually likewise recipes, food selection plans and best of all the Food Consultant test, where you may address a couple of questions concerning exactly what you consume and also it tells you where your diet plan may be actually doing not have (eg. As the atricale mention its own not the genetic engineering that lots of people are angry at its the possession and also trademarking from food items as a whole. I completed my 2 full weeks challenge right now into my Third week, I dropped 3Kg as well as 6 cm from my waist. She has launched a ton from amazing tasks, consisting of Genuine Food Movies (this uses on the internet flicks to spread the word regarding lasting farming) and also Little Earth Fund, which has reared $1 million for grassroots associations. Weight Watchers used to spend a great deal of opportunity giving us approaches (for those that worried about to go to throughout this time; so many dieters realized the impossibility of trying to restrain food over the holiday seasons) for handling all the great tasting meals we 'd be about to come across. Ironically, the woman in the brand new video which is grumbling regarding welfare aid is patronizing Walmart - a retail chain where earnings are so low that a lot of workers receive welfare aid. The United States Fda mentioned that calorie calculates be published on food selections in chain restaurants, retail food buildings, and also vending makers; all along with 20 or even more sites. Too many drinks may lead to over-eating, with studies3 showing folks consume additional food compared to normal in the course of and after a drinking session! So our company spoke about just what they wanted, exactly how they imagined Australian meals devices.
I will definitely constantly encourage youngsters to join sports and enable their personality to expand off the trainings sport must supply, as well as no matter where my lifestyle takes me, I will rely on what wrestling has actually instructed me and use that as a quick guide for results. Secondly our company're mosting likely to have this food to folks that require that and place that to good make use of. OzHarvest vehicles pick up food off shopping center, butchers, fruit product and also veg shops and bake shops! If you understand what I suggest, these simply accommodate the finest for me and also the stuffing gives me lots of support and additional oomph. This is reasonable, and you must think about various other factors to accomplish along with your good friends that do not make food the main focus. Even further, body-based consuming a fantastic method to go, but sometimes our bodies need the food even when we do not believe that it. A fine example is the post-workout dish. The skillset fit is actually extra obvious as well as the easiest to assess in the course of the tapping the services of process.

Day 9: Lazy day full of TV
I was extremely lazy today. It’s been a very active Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday this week, and I was tired and needed a rest. I had intended to work out (my immunity challenge,) but I didn’t- one of my weaknesses is getting caught up in the inertia of doing nothing! So tomorrow it’s back to beans and rice with no conveniences. Another one is coming Sunday, so hopefully I’ll make that one. The tacos were delicious though.
I’ve been watching Survivor: Africa. Either the Purple Rock ranking has it wrong, or the season is about to take a significant nosedive à la Worlds Apart. To be honest I’m liking it more than The Australian Outback so far. Maybe it’s because I haven’t been spoiled like crazy from watching a bunch of returning player seasons first. Or because the challenges are more hilarious, like when everyone was carrying those goats. I decided that before I watch Winners at War, I’m going to watch their seasons first, to avoid getting spoiled too badly. I found a Reddit thread with a nice spoiler-free list of the seasons I need to watch: 3, 7, 8, 11, 13, 16, 20, 22, 23, 24, 25, 27, 29, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36 and 37.
It’s certainly going to be better than this current season. Watching the premiere yesterday, I was pretty underwhelmed. I haven’t seen season 41, so I’m not sure if this is the new format or something. All the immediate twists I think really hurt the character development, to the point where they were doing mini-bios of the players, complete with childhood photographs! What is this, the Great British Bake-Off? (I love GBBO, but I don’t watch Survivor for whimsical kindness.) One great part of Survivor to me is watching the relationships develop and finding out about people little by little. If you want to spread your story to the world, then you have to win. That’s just how it is. A big disappointment. I don’t know if I’d go so far as to say I’d rather eat more bugs than watch it, though.

This applies for learning Korean much more than it'll for other languages. MeetUp.com is really a website where people post meet-ups to add about everything else you can imagine, from foreign language learning to playing marbles. Use want you need to do is combine two activities, one of one's hobbies and Learning Speaking spanish. For example, a little bit ago, I wanted to your upcoming car Korean language (I was moving to Korea). My favorite thing in world is eating, i really went to some meet-up site and did a attempt to find "learn Korean food," so found an exceptional Korean language exchange group that had each meeting in other Korean kitchen. It was brilliant!
