Chrysippus (279BC - 206BC) was a Greek Stoic philosopher who reportedly died from laughing too hard at his own joke. Biographer Diogenes Laërtius actually recorded two different accounts of Chrysippus' death in The Lives and Opinions of Eminent Philosophers. The first account is that Chrysippus became dizzy after drinking unmixed (i.e. undiluted) wine and died soon after; in the second account Diogenes writes:
"But some people say that he died of a fit of immoderate laughter. For that seeing his ass eating figs, he told his old woman to give the ass some unmixed wine to drink afterwards, and then laughed so violently that he died."

not me crying over the fact that Plato wasn’t actually at Socrates’ death, and the fact that we’ll never know what Socrates actually said on his deathbed. Damn whatever Plato was sick with.

the increasing interdependence of human and machine in our daily life is surely suboptimal on a wider scale but it might all be worth the distinct pleasure of walking up an escalator. my legs and the gears of the moving stairs united, flesh and steel, working together on one goal: me getting up there so fucking fast

I know frankenstein is technically set in the 18th century but I can't help always imagining it in the 1810s when Mary Shelley was writing... I just love the regency melodrama of it all <3

I say this because I've been drinking with my dad for six hours and people we're with keep asking about my dead ass mother and how we're coping (shit as hell thanks for asking): but goddamn sometimes I have to take the W on my vocab skills, because I'm drunk as hell and I'm still better than someone who's had weeks to edit something. I don't want to inflate my ego because I'm just some woman on the internet, but at some point I have to acknowledge that...no I know I'm better than what I'm reading rn (she says reading academic articles at midnight).
