Heyy! I've found stats to (self reported) average penis sizes on men, however I haven't seen any for us trans girlies. So to all the 18+ trans girlies:
this is meant for when it's hard

It’s a noble, honourable tradition to come back to Doctor Who.

I actually don't think I'll ever get over the parallel between Ianto Jones dying because of an alien virus and then the Face of Boe saving a whole world from suffering the same fate.
Because Jack never did forget Ianto. He kept his promise. And his love for him helped him to save thousands of lives. One last time.
Sobbing. Janto will live in my heart forever.

New doctor who specials have me watching through the show from series 1 again, and I gotta say, every time I rewatch it I’m blown away by how much I really really love Gridlock.
Tumblr media
Can’t believe it doesn’t get talked about more by the fandom. Criminally underappreciated, absolute classic imo.

Time for another underappreciated episode highlight: Gridlock is absolutely stunning on what it does on several levels. The world building (the absolutely great build up of the drug alley/reveal about bliss later, the shots of the Doctor climbing through cars showing off all of the different species/characters, the chats through the car radios/moment of faith, the continuation of the New New York plotline), the character work (the Doctor realizing how much he screwed up and could possibly lose Martha, Martha calling him out on his lies, the relationship with the Face of Boe), the set up for future plotlines (the religious metaphors that would continue to Last of the Time Lords, "You are Not Alone," hell, even the Face of Boe shielding the Novice from the virus if you watch Torchwood/Children of Earth), and the music. God, the music! I've relistened to the track "Boe" at the end of the episode on repeat since I first rewatched it a couple of days ago, it's so hopeful both because of what the Doctor and Martha and the Face of Boe have given New New York and because it's indicative of where the Doctor and Martha's relationship is going and the whole episode is absolutely amazing and yet it feels so overlooked by the fandom in favor of Blink. Season 3 has so many amazing episodes, possibly the strongest run save Season 1, and Gridlock is an amazing example of the sheer scale of storytelling you can tell in a single episode of Doctor Who.

"New New York can start again. And they've got Novice Hame. Just what every city needs, cats in charge."
The doomed couple in the car looks like that Grant Wood-painting of the farmer and his wife that they also used in the opening of Desperate Housewives
Hee. Tempting Martha with knowledge is a surefire way to get her ass back on the TARDIS
He's pulling the same trick to woo Martha as he did with Rose, only in the reverse. With Rose it was Way Into the Future and then A Key Historical Figure into the Past, with Martha, it's the opposite
Aw. Martha doesn't know yet about all the Doctor's trauma
She might be too curious for the Doctors good. Already too insightful about All The Things The Doctor Is Not Telling Her
This is David Lynch's motor way: permanently stuck in traffic. Pure utter hell
Would there be Danny's?
Martha is a great hostage because she's just curiously making conversation instead of, I don't know, trying to break free
This is like Mad Max: Tranquil Road
It's Janis Joplin's coat? That is so cool
New New York might be my favourite recurring locale. It's super scifi weirdness and it's just always fun
Martha is so smart. Did I mention that? Cause she is
So the motor way is a necessary evil to keep the Macra at bay?
Ah, no, the highway is literally the only part of New New New (etc.) York that survived. The Macra are just a byproduct
How literal should we take the “children” thing? Are those kittens really human/alien-hybrids?
Soo... there's more Time Doctors? The Face of Boo wouldn't lie to me, would he? Would he?!
8 out of 8. Having just one reference to Cassandra would have pushed it into the 9 out of 8

i hate when people say "it's not the doctor's fault he and martha weren't on the same page 🥺"
but it literally is though. why kiss someone you're not interested in. why flirt with someone you're not interested in. why lean on someone, literally put your life in the hands of something you're kind of 'not on the same page with?
"it got complicated...and that was all my fault."
im not saying he *should* have loved her as a reward, that's a gross take. but i am asking when oh when will the doctor who fandom stop pretending that things didn't get so complicated with martha because HE was the one making it complicated?
the show lays it out pretty explicitly:
flirts with her and shows off to her to get her into the tardis then claim he isn't interested. complicated.
shares a bed with her and rolls over, looks her deep in her eyes and says he's missing something, something that is fairly obvious and staring him in the face, then proceed to compare her to rose and say he's taking her home. complicated.
despite proclaiming one tip, he extends it. complicated.
instead of saying he doesn't want to go home because of personal reasons he lies, and uses her to reminisce on someone else which gets her kidnapped. complicated.
extends that 'one trip'. again. complicated.
almost sacrifices himself twice and when she says she's glad to see him still alive swoops her up in a hug while the bad guys get away but blame her for wasting time on a hug. complicated.
takes her back home, leaves, returns 30 seconds later then at the end of yet another adventure asks her to have one more trip AGAIN. complicated.
be frightened out of your mind and ignore her concerns - complicated - but give her a tardis key. sweet but even more complicated.
hide away in 1913 while she looks after you but you fall in love, because the narrative is pointing out that the most basic human emotion djdn't even occur to you. complicated. your companion confesses her love and recinds it afterwards and you oblige even though you know she's lying. complicated.
you scream in her face in your fear, dismiss her concerns about the fear which brings the fear to her doorstep and you play in her face about someone not knowing you exist even though you have a crush. complicated.
put your life and the whole planet in her hands. complicated. weep over the death of her oppressor. complicated.
there was a really simple solution to all of this. leave. her. alone. martha, i feel like everyone forgets this, literally said NO at the end of 'the lazarus experiment.' she rejected him. but he didn't want to let her go.
now that's complicated.

I'm rewatching Gridlock for the first time in a while and I now this isn't the most beloved episode, but I think it is very dear.
I agree that the monster below is a bit of a distraction to the plot— I understand its purpose for the plot and the symbolism, it just feels like it was set up without pay off.
However, it's such a classic unraveling mystery— there's a motorway, okay that's par, but wait how long has one been on the motor way? Why is everyone so caviller about time? Why is everyone on the motorway if been like 20 years?
It's also one of RTD's specialities: making a gritty alien future/planet. He's so good at side stepping the sterile looking future and making something so human even if it's not human. It is a fantastic showcase of the diversity he envisioned with such gentle loving care— every car is personalized, quirky, and fully realized. Every person is just so human, human or not.
The singing scene will always get me. Here is this situation where the every day person is stuck in an impossible situation in which they are powerless to escape and have been abandoned by the "state" while being spoon fed thin lies. And still everyone relies on each other, they have each other and they comfort each other. Everyone is stuck and they take the time to sing in harmony.
I think it's a great showcase of his era— the individualized focus where the story was about the people and not so much the big bad. Showing a future in which we're all going to keep being people and keep trying our best no matter what.

rewatching dw and here's my little post why gridlock by rtd is my favourite episode. i think the thing i love the most about dw is its optimism, the idea that no matter what humanity endures, that it will inevitably change but still persevere and the gridlock shines in this aspect, even though changed humanity explores new planets and galaxies while still staying true to itself - in times of uncertainty they sing a hymn of hope,i think it's beautiful. plus, it has david tennant staring longingly while talking about gallifrey and martha finally having none of tenth's bullshit
