Breakfast:
1. Overnight oats with almond milk, chia seeds, sliced banana, and a drizzle of honey.
2. Whole grain cereal with skim milk, topped with mixed berries and a sprinkle of flaxseeds.
3. Veggie omelette made with bell peppers, onions, and mushrooms, served with whole grain toast.
4. Smoothie bowl with blended spinach, frozen mixed berries, Greek yogurt, and a handful of granola.
Mid-Morning Snack:
1. Sliced cucumber and cherry tomatoes with hummus.
2. Rice cakes with avocado mash and a sprinkle of black pepper.
3. Cottage cheese with sliced strawberries and a drizzle of balsamic glaze.
4. Whole grain crackers with tuna salad (made with Greek yogurt instead of mayo) and cucumber slices.

Poise & Progess: Formulating My Meal Plan
Firstly, I am not an expert or dietician or whatever. With the help of Chat GPT I’ve compiled a list of meals and snacks that I can incorporate into a meal plan and that will allow me to reach my fitness/body goals.
I will also mention that I mainly follow a pescatarian diet but I am not entirely strict with it. I find that cutting out meats, not including seafood, works well with my body and digestive system but I don't mind a grilled chicken salad every once in a while.
So below you'll find my balanced meal plan grouped by meals.

Was bored and also procrastinating other things, so have a ranked list of Hermits based on whether I think they can cook or not for funsies. Vibes only.
Beef: The expert. Is well versed in almost all manners of cooking, and is an extremely skilled chef, particularly with regards to meat dishes, and is a particularly skilled butcher.
TFC: Also up there with Beef, but TFC is also a master of rare ingredients. He’s good at foraging, and he uses ingredients in his cooking that aren’t typically used in just every day life. His techniques may seem a bit primitive, but they are highly effective and his style of cooking might be called simple food made complicated.
Stress: Also a very good cook who puts a lot of emphasis on nutrition. She makes meal plans and prepares a lot of her food at the beginning of the week, and her cooking always makes sure to include a balanced diet. She enjoys cooking and likes to have fun with it. Makes a killer roast chicken.
Impulse: Is surprisingly good at home style cooking. He doesn’t make anything fancy or anything, and his presentation is always a little sloppy, but his food at least tastes good.
Cub: Doesn’t cook much, but when he does he is actually secretly a very good chef. He cooks for himself a lot, but it’s only once in a blue moon that someone else gets to eat his food.
Wels: Is a decent chef, but is incapable of cooking for a single person. He makes way too much food every time and is incapable of portioning, and as such he is the direct inverse of Cub, and he never cooks for himself if he’s alone. Is also very good at desserts.
Ren: Has a bottomless pit of a stomach. Has a big appetite and loves all food and really enjoys big dinner feasts. Is also good with cooking meat specifically. He has a special smoking method that is a real crowd pleaser. Is also good with basic rice bowls and his cooking tastes very homely.
Gem: Is good at treating fish specifically. Also anything involving wild game. Like TFC she is very good at foraging and using ingredients found in the forest. Her cooking is a bit unrefined, but has a very light, refreshing sort of feel to it.
Cleo: An average cook, but is very good at a few specific dishes. (As a side note I’ve actually tried one of Cleo’s recipes that she talked about on stream and it is literally the greatest thing ever, I made it once and people request it all the time)
Joe: Is good at making drinks specifically. He makes a mean margarita and is good at making mixed drinks and cocktails, but otherwise is an average chef with regards to food. Makes very good nachos though.
Doc: Like Cleo, Doc is good at making a few very specific dishes. He makes several German specialties and is also very good at treating vegetables, but outside of these specialties he is rubbish.
Bdubs: Stereotypical grill dad. At least he thinks so. His seasonings consist almost exclusively of basic spices. Meat is the only thing he cooks, but otherwise possesses no real flare for cooking. Despite this, he thinks very highly of his skills, and the food he puts out isn’t bad really, so the Hermits still let him cook every once in a while.
Scar: Scar always tries his absolute best, and his cooking swings wildly from perfection to the most disgusting thing you’ve ever eaten in your life. There is no in between. It’s 50/50 what you’re going to get, but he has fun either way.
Jevin: makes a mean Mac and cheese, but outside of this, he is a very basic cook. He makes himself sandwiches and grilled cheese and maybe some pasta, but otherwise doesn’t cook much else.
Hypno: Ok. He can kill something and cook it, but he’s not the best butcher and his food is just kind of thrown together. There’s no real theme to any plate he puts out. He’s half decent with seasonings and spices though.
XB: Can make fried rice and that’s about it.
Keralis: Can copy other people’s dishes when given instructions, but when left alone has no idea what he’s doing.
False: Doesn’t really cook much. She probably could, but most of the time she’s after something quick and easy. Whenever she gets hungry she just grabs an apple from the bowl or eats whatever leftovers are in the fridge cold.
Etho: Lives almost exclusively off of instant ramen.
Zedaph: treats the kitchen like a chemistry lab and anyone eating is a test subject. He’s not allowed in the kitchen very often.
Xisuma: This man could burn juice. I don’t know how, but he’d do it. He is a sopping wet cat in the kitchen. He’s the type that tries to cook but fails so miserably that every time he just ends up making a bowl of cereal for himself instead.
Grian and Pearl: have cooking battles competing over who can make the most disgusting dish. Grian is like the little toddler that always wants to help but is so bad that no one will let him. He’s also always the one standing over your shoulder and sneaking bites of things when you turn your back. Pearl can’t cook herself, but she has good knife skills so she is often allowed to help out with the prep work.
Mumbo: Will eat anything and everything you throw in front of him. He does not care. He also does not cook at all. When left to fend for himself he demolishes the kitchen by eating every raw ingredient in the pantry. This man would eat a sack of flour if you let him.
Tango: This man does not eat unless you make him. You have to physically drag him to the table to get any kind of nourishment, but he is always very appreciative of other peoples cooking.
Iskall: Orders takeout exclusively.

Bachelor/ettes and Cooking
Gonna rank how I think the marriage candidates would do in the kitchen
----
Bachelors:
Elliott -- it takes a while, but once the man has a real kitchen at his disposal and some encouragement to try, I think he would really enjoy cooking and could be very good at it! I HC him as growing up in a wealthy home where he probably wasn't allowed to cook for himself, and then the cabin has nothing... but he remembers dishes he really enjoyed. I like to think he starts cooking just trying to help out once he moves to the farm, and there is DEF a learning curve... but there's a master chef hiding in there. I can feel it.
Alex -- you do not grow up with Grannie Evelyn and not learn how to cook. Impossible. Now, he's not a fancy chef by any means, but he can make a meal without issue. If you get this man a grill, he will 1000% become Grill Master, Kiss the Cook apron wearing Grill Dad. Also, though he rarely does it, he can bake up a storm. Generally only bakes for birthdays.
Harvey -- He can cook, but only cooks healthy meals. He will need to be taught that it's okay to season your food. Brown rice, steamed veggies, and plain tofu/ chicken breasts type guy. Otherwise, it's pre-packaged frozen food. Maybe he can get better w/ encouragement but he's always going to be checking portions and making sure you eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and watch your sodium intake. The most likely bachelor to be vegetarian/ be willing to go vegetarian. Gets nauseated if he's preparing meat.
Shane -- Mid-tier like Harvey, but even though he's had kitchen access he rarely feels like cooking. He knows what seasoning is-- his usual cooking style is the exact opposite of Harvey, mostly family recipes. All flavor, calorie count who?? Loves making food covered in cheese, sauce, or gravy. His chili would win awards, but he only makes it once a year.
Sam -- He could keep himself alive if the box has directions. Anything more complicated than boxed mac and cheese, though, and he gets a little lost. Can help YOU in the kitchen very well, but to be honest he would rather be doing something more exciting.
Sebastian -- The only one who is a worse cook than him is Abigail. He is NOT allowed in the kitchen even to watch. Could burn iced tea.

Bachelorettes
Emily -- Oldest sister + working at the Saloon added together means she's definitely going to be a decent cook, but she genuinely enjoys cooking. She loves to experiment with different cultural dishes. She only cooks vegetarian or vegan dishes.
Penny -- She's pretty self sufficient. I don't think she knows too many recipes, but she enjoys experimenting if she moves to the farmhouse. She's very adapt at stretching a budget, and I think she would enjoy making jams/ pickles. Not the big amount the farmer does, but small batches in special flavors.
Leah -- She's a simple cook. She prefers raw dishes, or things like buddha bowls. A lot of texture and flavor. Loves using herbs and edibles from foraging locally. Leans vegetarian but doesn't mind fish from time to time.
Maru -- Maru is proficient at cooking, but I think takes after her dad too much and is very nutrient focused vs what actually makes a good meal. Occasionally makes questionable decisions in the name of efficiency. Could go from making some sort of casserole if busy w/ a project to Extremely Experimental if she has the time. No in between.
Haley -- I considered putting her higher but no. She has rarely if ever had to cook for herself before, so if she's at the farmhouse she will be surprised if you expect her to do anything in the kitchen. Eventually I think she could be fine. It's not hard. She just hates doing dishes. Enjoys baking somewhat, especially w/ Alex.
Abigail -- She eats rocks as a snack and thinks if you just crank the oven to 600 for fifteen minutes it's better than 350 for an hour. Her stomach is alien to this world. Can and will eat anything without issue.

I hate hot food. For many reasons. I know a lot of Argonian meals are served cool/cold, but do the other races have meals intended to be the same way?
While not particularly common in some Provinces, chilled dishes can be found across Tamriel and are the perfect refreshment when hot food feels a little too weighty.
Altmer
Probably the Tamrielic masters of cold dishes, the High Elves are probably best known for their cold raw seafood dishes. Fresh fish, prawns, squid, octopus, sea urchin, and much more are sliced with a deft hand and served with wasabi and saltrice sauce. Sometimes, the seafood is placed atop rice and wrapped with a thin slice of nori to hold it together. While the idea of eating cold raw fish may not appeal to many, it's one of my favourite foods in Tamriel.
Argonians
Keeping clay or metal vessels submerged in water is an age-old Argonian technique of keeping their food cool, which is an absolute must in the hot and muggy climate of Black Marsh. Cold swamp jelly and seafood salad topped with grilled prawns and chilled marinated snails is a customary dish offered to visitors, and it's delightfully refreshing! The swamp jelly doesn't taste of much, but its soft, jelly-like texture complements the crunch of the seaweed.
Bosmer
Cold food isn't much of a thing for the Wood Elves, but one exception jumps to mind: the humble cottage cheese dip. Cottage cheese made from timber mammoth milk is aged in caves for two days, seasoned, and kept chilled. The dip is served cold with dried cured meats to dip with. It's not terribly exciting, but there's nothing quite as satisfying as eating meat and cheese in one bite!
Bretons
Chilled soufflés are all the rage in High Rock, and require lots of patience (and swearing) to master. Both sweet and savoury soufflés are served in this manner, from orange liqueur to parmesan and rosemary. My personal favourite is the chilled chili chocolate soufflé from the Rosy Lion in Daggerfall, part of their seasonal menu. The combination of rich dark cocoa with a touch of Alik'r spices is out of Nirn!
Dunmer
Chilled foods aren't an integral part of Dunmeri gastronomic culture, but certain Houses, namely the Telvanni, Hlaalu, and Redorans, do enjoy them. A Telvanni specialty is a cold chicken salad, where the chicken is marinated overnight in a blend of matcha, fire fern, saltrice sauce, and secret spices. It grilled and shredded, and served cold with hackle-lo leaves and gold kanet seeds atop steamed saltrice. However, don't let appearances fool you; any Telvanni with cold chicken salad leftovers can probably be found gobbling it at midnight straight from the cold cellar.
Imperials
The Gold Coast is famous for its chilled seafood soup, made with a creamy tomato and fish stock base, and loaded with all manner of fish and shellfish. While the hot variant from Bruma is more popular in colder climes, the cold seafood soup is a delightfully refreshing meal when beating the summer heat, especially when served with a mojito on the side.
Khajiit
If there's an excuse to make a food cold, the Khajiit will find it, and for good reason: the Deadlands-like heat of Elsweyr. Cold vegetable curries are a notable mention. Three or four small bowls of different curries, from mild okra to spicy potato, are served with moon sugar, saffron rice or tandoor flatbreads, and are meant to be eaten with your hands. I must say, though, that there's a rather jarring contrast between the cold curry and the searing heat you get from biting into a bird's eye chili.
Nords
Unlike the Khajiit, Nords look for any excuse to make food hot, with a couple of exceptions. Cold smoked salmon, mudcrab, or trout with dark rye bread is one of them. This rustic lunch dish is served with chilled horseradish cream, goat cheese, and fish roe topping, and is the perfect meal for when you want something filling that won't send you straight to sleep.
Orcs
Glass noodle salad is an Orcish delicacy said to have originated in Wrothgar in the early Second Era. The noodles, made from sweet potato starch, are thick and chewy, and are served chilled. To turn it into a salad, simply throw in some cold shredded daikon radish and carrots, sweet frost mirriam vinegar, peas, cold rare beef tongue slices, and fried chorizo. Easy and delicious, while packing lots of flavour!
Redguards
Cold foods are a welcome treat in Hammerfell, where the searing heat can be just as unbearable as Elsweyr's. Cold, pulled goat in a chilled tomato and harissa-based stew is eaten as a soup, and is a filling meal when mixed with bulgur or cous-cous. While it may sound and look a little like last night's disappointing leftovers, one bite of this on a Midyear day in the Alik'r will have you moaning with delight.

Bún sườn nướng chay (Vietnamese rice noodle salad)
This is a vegetarian ("chay") version of bún gà nướng, a Vietnamese rice noodle ("bún") salad with grilled chicken ("gà nướng"). Chewy rice noodles, fresh vegetables and herbs, and a tangy, slightly spicy sauce combine with grilled or pan-seared 'chicken' to create a rich, flavorful, well-rounded dish. A marinade of lemongrass, sugar, garlic, and vegetarian fish sauce caramelizes around the 'chicken' as it sears, creating a sweet-and-savory crispy coating that perfectly complements the bright, herbacious salad. This dish can be made with Vietnamese sườn non chay, or with any meat substitute you have on hand.

Serves 4.
Ingredients:
For the nước chấm (dipping sauce):
1/2 cup water
Juice of 1 lime (2 Tbsp)
2 Tbsp rice vinegar
1/4 cup vegan fish sauce
3 Tbsp sugar
1 red chili (de-seeded and sliced)
3 cloves garlic, minced
Fish sauce doesn’t take “like” fish, merely fermented and intensely salty. You can buy a bottle of ready-made vegan fish sauce from a Southeast Asian brand such as Au Lac, or you can make your own by combining the following ingredients:
For the vegan fish sauce (nước mắm):
3 Tbsp liquid from a jar of fermented bean curd
1 Tbsp white miso paste
1 Tbsp light soy sauce
1/4 tsp salt
For the chicken (gà):
300g vegan chicken substitute (I used Gardein), or 100g sườn non chay
2 cloves garlic
1 stalk lemongrass (or substitute lemon zest or a bit of preserved lemon pulp)
Juice of 1 lime (2 Tbsp)
1 Tbsp vegan fish sauce
1 Tbsp vegetarian oyster sauce
1 Tbsp Vietnamese soy sauce
2 tsp vegetarian 'chicken' broth concentrate, or bột nêm chay (optional)
2 Tbsp brown sugar
1 Tbsp neutral oil
Sườn non chay may be found in bags online or at your local Asian grocery–the bags will be labelled “sườn non chay” as well as “vegan meat slice,” “textured soy bean protein,” “vegetarian food,” or “vegan food.”
Bột nêm is a Vietnamese seasoning sold in powder or granule form. Vegetarian (“chay”) versions of the seasoning may contain shiitake mushroom, lotus seeds, carrots, tomatoes, and kohlrabi, as well as salt and MSG. It can be purchased in pouches or boxes from an Asian grocery store, or you can use any other vegetable stock powder.
For the salad:
300g vermicelli rice noodles
2 cups bean sprouts
1 large carrot (julienned)
1 seedless cucumber (julienned)
6 leaves romaine lettuce (julienned)
1 bunch fresh cilantro
1 bunch fresh rau răm (Vietnamese mint), or mint
2 stalks green onion, sliced
Handful of peanuts
Fresh Vietnamese herbs can be found in the refrigerator section of an Asian grocery store, particularly one that specializes in southeast Asian food. You can also experiment with whatever leafy herbs you have on hand.
Instructions:
For the chicken:
1. (If using sườn non chay:) soak meat slices in cool water until rehydrated. Squeeze out excess water and cut each slice in half along its shortest dimension, to get two blocks of the original height and width.
2. Slice lemongrass. Peel away any tough, dry outer leaves to reveal the yellow-green leaves within. Remove the root end of each stalk, as well as the tough green portion at the top of each stalk (reserve this latter to boil in stocks). Thinly slice the tender yellow portion of each stalk.

3. Mix all marinade ingredients in a large bowl. Marinate chicken for 20-30 minutes while you prepare the nước chấm and vegetables.
4. Remove the chicken from the bowl, leaving any excess marinade behind. Heat a couple teaspoons of oil on medium in a large pan then sear the chicken, turning once, until deeply golden brown on both sides (or use a charcoal grill). (If using a pan) filter marinade to remove lemongrass slices, then pour extra marinade over the chicken and cook, stirring often, until coated.
5. Cut chicken into strips, or as desired.
For the nước chấm:
1. Mix vinegar, lime juice, fish sauce, sugar, and water in a small saucepan. Heat, stirring, until the sugar has dissolved.
2. Remove from heat and add minced garlic and chili. Pour into a bowl and allow to cool.
For the salad:
1. Boil the vermicelli according to package directions. Drain and rinse with cool water to halt cooking. Toss with a little bit of neutral oil to avoid sticking.
2. Roast peanuts in a dry pan on medium-low, stirring often, until golden brown and fragrant.
3. Julienne carrot, cucumber, and lettuce. Roughly chop herbs.
4. Plate vermicelli followed by vegetables, herbs, chicken, and peanuts. Spoon some nước chấm over the salad and set remainder to the side to serve.

Gudetama!MC/Yuu was just your ordinary sentient egg chilling in someone’s fridge.
Sometimes they lazes around on a person’s meal like either in oden (fish cake soup), yakisoba (grilled noodles), a curry dish, fettuccine pasta, or just a bowl of rice with soy sauce.
However, one night when little Gudetama!MC/Yuu was sleeping away, they fell into darkness…
…Until Grim blows open the coffin, letting Gudetama!MC/Yuu to slide out without effort.
Grim: *Confused* Uhh an egg?
Gudetama!MC/Yuu: *Feels chilly* Ah~ So cold…
Grim: A TALKING EGG?!
There’s no chase like in the Canon storyline and this time Crowley came towards the two.
Then after he collected the two back to the dorm selection ceremony, the usual story continues, the chaos ensues, and Gudetama!MC/Yuu was brought to the Ramshackle.
This is one Hell of an adventure for the little lazy egg.

Why don't you just... Eat rice? Why bread?
It's a lot harder to turn on the rice cooker at 3am and wait half an hour for rice to cook than it is to just put two pieces of bread in the toaster.
I just had rice for lunch. And I had rice pasta for lunch and dinner the last two days. And I had rice for dinner-lunch-dinner last friday to saturday. And I had potato salad for lunch on friday.
The thing is that it gets a bit monotonous, and sometimes you maybe want some buttered bread to go with your pasta dish and sometimes you maybe just want bread.
Like, there are a lot of hacks out there for what to do when you can't eat bread. "make your sandwiches on rice cakes!!!!" "make a lettuce wrap!!!!!" "make a salad instead of a sandwich!!!!!!" "hollow out a cucumber and put your filling inside of it!!!!!" but also all those hacks kind of suck.
When I was a kid there was a tea parlor we used to go to that had this curry chicken salad with golden raisins and chopped onions and almonds. I made some to share with my dad while he was in town. The tea parlor used to serve it on warm croissants and it was wonderful. It is literally impossible to make gluten-free croissants (the dough won't be elastic enough to laminate properly) so I was hoping to just have some chicken salad on sandwich bread. And yeah it's fine to eat by itself and I mean okay I had it with potato chips but I didn't want chicken salad on potato chips (or rice), I wanted a chicken salad sandwich.
I can eat (certified gluten free) oatmeal and rice and rice pasta and potatoes and stuff but all of that takes a lot more time than putting some cream cheese and lemon curd on a gluten free bagel and also it's not my go-to so it took me a while to recognize that I was starting to get the low-carb brain fog.
But also because rice does not enable my depraved regency habits. Sometimes I want to eat off of a paper towel in my car, not out of a bowl, you know?
It's also super depressing to be locked out of your staple foods and the foods you grew up with. Last night Large Bastard had a grilled cheese with tomato soup for dinner. I had pasta. I've got a big jar of peanut butter that *yes* i can eat with yogurt and bananas and *yes* I can put into oatmeal (and I do those things pretty regularly) but it doesn't do me much good if I want to pack a couple PB&J sandwiches for a hike.
But also it's a bummer because I already did this. I already learned the discreet way to bring food I can eat to family events or what I can eat ahead of time that means I won't get hungry or which places I can go after an event to quickly get something to eat. Convenience food is convenient! Do you know what it's like to go backpacking when you can't eat any of the standard backpacking food? It's homemade trail mix for days, but I did also like to pack a single serving of spam and two slices of bread. If I go to a conference it's extremely standard for me to pack two loaves of bread that I can eat and a jar of peanut butter and a jar of jam so that there will be *something* in the room that I can eat quickly or pack quickly and carry with me. Bread is the easiest way to ensure that I don't end up living off mostly fruit and kind bars if I'm going out.
Hell, I used to bring my bread along to in-n-out because both the flying dutchman and the protein-style lettuce wrap are SIGNIFICANTLY INFERIOR to just using actual bread. (Lettuce wraps suck. I've been eating them for years and I'm ready to call it. Lettuce wraps are how you make a hamburger instantly cold and get it to taste vaguely like dirt. Could I eat lettuce-wrap tacos? Yes. Do I want 'the poor person's endive boat but put carne asada in it'? No. If I wanted something wrapped in leaves I would get dolmas like a reasonable person because at least those are soaked in oil)
And at this point I would prefer to have a proven gluten-free bread recipe that I can make reliably and that does not suck, but the last few times I've tried to make g-free bread (like, a loaf of bread, not flatbread or bannock or quickbreads) it has not gone well and I would *love* to experiment but at the moment my oven isn't getting hotter than 250fah so it's not really bread-capable at the moment. I have some recipes I'd like to try, but they will require a functional oven.
I know *how* to get enough carbs without bread, it just requires forethought and planning and I don't want forethought and planning, I don't want to get up an hour early to make good oatmeal, I want some cocoa almond spread on a piece of toast.
Also trader joe's recently discontinued the macaroni and cheese that I used to get and the version that Aldi has sucks and is more expensive and the version that Annie's has doesn't *suck* but isn't what I want and is MUCH more expensive and of course I can make macaroni (or, let's be real, penne or rotini because finding rice-only macaroni is a fucking chore) and cheese but it takes literal hours and also requires an oven.
IDK bud you caught me at a bad time because I'm extremely sad that the gluten-free diet fad is passing and that my local grocery stores got rid of their gluten-free sections in the past year and the foods that I was eating are getting discontinued or are out of stock and the thought of having to become an extremely good baker (because good gluten-free bread is HARD) or just eat rice forever is a downer. I already cook so, so much of the food that I eat from scratch that I don't want to do more hours of cooking each week - I spend probably six hours baking or cooking on on saturdays and sundays and then another one to two hours cooking on weeknights and you may recognize that as approximately equivalent to a part-time job *just to keep myself fed on a reasonable budget, and it obviously isn't all that reasonable a budget if I'm spending ten to twenty hours a week on it* and the thought of doing more of that because there's a shortage of corn-free baking powder or something is the kind of invisible disability burden that goes tremendously under-discussed and kind of makes me insane.
I mean fuck if we want to talk about the social model of disability accessible food options for people with allergies and autoimmune conditions is a great example that never gets brought up and it is really difficult to emphasize that "trader joe's $5 rice bread" versus "udi's $10 equivalent rice bread" versus "2-3 additional baking hours a week" versus "just change your go-to quick meals and accept that you eat hamburgers with a fork" has a lot of possible outcomes that reduce my quality of life.
And that sounds stupid to say. "A company stopped carrying a product and it reduced my quality of life."
But first off it's not one company and not one product and when it's not just "white sandwich bread" but it's "white sandwich bread, macaroni and cheese, frozen empanadas, chocolate chip cookies, lasagna noodles, rice cereal, sorgum beer, rice rotini, canned chicken, ginger cookies, almond flour muffins, split pea soup, vegetarian chili, mushroom risotto" and on and on it gets exhausting and depressing and losing access to a significant number of convenience food and easy meals DOES fuck with your quality of life.
You know what my easy "I'm tired because we're moving and I'm broke so I can't go buy fresh groceries" meal was for the last three years? Scrambled eggs and toast.
Until the last two months I probably had scrambled eggs and toast once or twice a week since the pandemic started.
You know what's not as easy as that? Any rice dish. You know what it got replaced with? Cereal. Or nothing.
I know that having chocolate rice crisps (or nothing) for dinner once a week isn't actually ideal. That's part of why I spend eight to twelve hours cooking on weekends - so I'll have a big vat of rice or potato based soup that I can have leftovers of for lunch through the week and probably get dinner out of for a couple nights too.
But sometimes you're a little tired of the chicken and rice soup that you are eating for nine meals out of twenty one and it would be nice to have some scrambled eggs and toast.
So, basically, the bread is load-bearing in terms of making me a quasi-functional human being and it isn't going to break me and I'm going to be able to put something else there to shore up the deficit but I am going to complain the whole time.

plz share ur recipes if u can🙏 I'm 23 and just learing how to pack lunches because I'm substitute teaching everyday and painfully learning that I really can't work 8 hours on just celsius😭
oh, my darling..
if you have a rice cooker, rice is one of the easiest things to prep and have on hand. I recently upgraded ours and it says it will make oatmeal, too, but I haven't tried yet. This weekend, I made honey Sriracha chicken. you'll need:
2-3 pounds of boneless skinless chicken cuts of your choice- breasts or thighs work well
1/3 cup soy sauce
1/3 cup honey
2 tablespoons tomato paste
2 tablespoons Sriracha sauce
4 cloves of garlic, minced (you can also use what I lovingly refer to as "jarlic"- it's minced garlic in a jar, usually found in the produce section at the grocery store. it doesn't taste as good as fresh garlic, but it's easy and quick)
1 tablespoon rice vinegar
2 tablespoons corn starch
Mix all of this together and pour over chicken in a slow cooker. cook on low for 7-8 hours or on high for 4. shred the chicken when it's fork tender. if you're packing lunches with it, let it cook completely (along with the rice) and divide it up into containers. I really like the glass storage containers (these are the ones I have). honestly, if you make enough rice, this will get you through a week of lunches!
I also make a big bowl of fruit salad. any kind of fruit you like! just wash, cut, and store in an airtight container or divide into your meal prep containers and it's a good snack on the go. Adult lunchables are fun too. Get yourself some fancy crackers and some kind of meat (salami, turkey breast, ham..), a brick of cheese that you can slice up, and trail mix or nuts. some of the meal prep containers have dividers if you shop around and are good for storing these.
Those bagged salad kits are really nice. You get all the stuff you need and only have to mix it. You can add protein if you like, but they're also great on their own! I also always keep simple things on hand for snacks- string cheese, protein bars, good old pb+j, carrot sticks, celery, and cucumbers are favorites around here.
Casseroles are always nice, and they keep well for a few days. You can throw just about anything you like in a baking dish and have a meal for a few days. This Chicken Bacon Ranch pasta is one that even my picky eater loves. Another easy idea is sandwiches. You can be as creative or simple as you like! Grilled or baked, any kind of bread or veggies you want. The possibilities are literally endless.
Honestly, if you do a little Google searching for what you like, there are millions of recipes out there- ranging from super simple to complicated (but ultimately rewarding!). I'm happy to point you in the direction of what my family loves, but I'm sure you have your own taste and preferences, too.
