Thing is, I KNOW the obvious way to cast a nandermo santa clarita diet AU would be Nandor=Sheila and Guillermo=Joel, bc the whole smitten malewife endlessly supporting and cleaning up after supernatural serial killer partner is pretty directly comparable to the canon Nandermo sitch. But I really, REALLY enjoy the idea of it the other way round, for several reasons:
1) if you're sticking to the SCD model and going established relationship married couple, you can DEFINITELY get away with Nandor being doting and supportive bc I totally think he would be once you get past his emotional walls. Plus precious, nervous, funny, bad with fake names and cover stories, trying-very-hard-to-go-with-the-flow-but-simultaneously-terrified-of-change malewife Nandor would be fucking FUN.
2) the way the zombie curse skyrocketed Sheila's confidence and badassery but also her impulsiveness is a very good parallel to how Guillermo discovering his slayer powers affected him, albeit more extreme. Impulsive sexy confident cannibalistic undead Guillermo would ALSO just be fucking FUN.
3) it's Nandor's turn to clean up the blood and corpses tbh

🦴🕊️🩸 21yo transmasc writer seeking other 19+ writers for a canon x canon roleplay to take place over Discord. I'm only interested in writing as and with masc-presenting characters (cis, trans, nb), and while I favour dark themes, I can write comfortably in most settings.
I have a few specific fandoms I'm interested in writing for -- I'll list my preferred character in bold, and the characters I'm dead keen to write get a star next to them.
★ Nux x Max Rockatansky or Immortan Joe (Mad Max: Fury Road).
The Pyro x Anyone (Team Fortress 2).
★ Roadhog x Junkrat, Mauga or Reinhardt (Overwatch).
Clever Hans or Woody x Bigby Wolf (The Wolf Among Us).
Guillermo x Nandor or Laszlo (What We Do In The Shadows).
Abner Krill (the Polka-Dot Man) x Anyone (DC). I'd love to place Abner in more of a Gotham-like setting, maybe as a resident of Arkham so he'd be able to pair against the Riddler, the Joker, or even Batman himself.
★ Rocket Raccoon x Thor, Drax or Peter Quill (Marvel). Yeah, the raccoon fucks.
★ Betelgeuse/Beetlejuice x Charles Deetz or Adam Maitland (Beetlejuice). Would also love to try pitting Beej against a crossover character from another horror movie.
The Oni x Any Killer (Dead by Daylight.)
To put it plainly, I just love big men, gritty plots and fetish. I'm a dom-top for the most part -- but I'm not opposed to bottoming if you're worth a damn as a top. I'm a multi-para writer when it calls for it (detail and establishing scenes are fun), but I love rapid firing 1-2 paragraphs to keep the roleplay going consistently. I also love character conversations, moodboards, song sharing, etc.
My favourite themes in fiction are definitely on the side of gratuitous violence -- I love plots involving dystopia, criminal activity, slashers and serial killers. I love dubious, immoral relationships, themes of abuse and "what the fuck am I reading?" porn. Be a weird piece of shit and I'll love you forever.
If you're interested in writing with me (or just enjoyed the read), leave a like and I'll message you my Discord tag so we can chat further. Stay sick, y'all.
Like this post and the asker will reach out!

I understand what you mean about horror and unsympathetic characters like Gilroy. SO many horror movies do this, making the characters either one-dimensional or unlikeable. And it's like, at this rate I don't feel terror for those people, I am lowkey rooting for the monster/serial killer/natural disaster. In books like Dracula and shows like The Haunting of Hill Manor I feel like those characters are likable and human, and even if they're doing something bad or mistakes they're least sympathetic so when they're suffering and in danger, I'm actually scared.
Exactly this ^^^
It's why I have to separate my horror favorites into two genres:
Horror that's a show VS Horror that scares
The former is pure cheering for the bogeyman, Humans Are The Real Monsters (c), Guillermo del Toro kind of fun. Supernatural powers crushing the very human mundane evil in the story is just pure vindictive junk food and I love it.
The latter involves characters you actually care about getting put through hell, which is the only way you get real pathos and a fear response from an audience. If no one likes the victims, there's no point in feeling bad for them or getting afraid on their behalf.
Hence the rapid decline of the slasher genre towards the end of its peak in late 80's/early 90's. Everyone's cheering on Freddy, Jason, and Michael because their victims got sandpapered down into throwaway caricatures and jerks. The Final Destination franchise ran on this, with everyone going into the movies knowing all the characters on screen were just meat for the grinder--not people to bother caring about.
Miss Penelosa doesn't get proper gravitas as a villain because of what a snot Gilroy is at the start, on top of a very unceremonious end without any sort of real confrontation, right when she was about to pull a truly dangerous and horrifying move with the attempted acid throw. While ACD had a lot of building blocks for a good build-up and payoff, he fumbled the protagonist (not sympathetic enough), the antagonist (powerful and with potential for a threat, but ultimately disempowered by her health and waiting until the last second to get truly scary in her plans), and the climax (which didn't even happen because Penelosa died off-screen of complications completely unrelated to the protagonist).
Splicing "The Parasite" into Dracula's post-canon and having someone like Jonathan Harker in the victim seat (perhaps with some other supernatural loose threads hanging around 👀) will hopefully give it a bit more meat on the bones, both scare and character-wise.

Some time ago I read one fic and I don't remember much about it besides the fact that in the notes the author was like "Yeah they kill a dog in this, they're bad people and I don't see why they would feel different about killing people and animals" and I keep thinking about this so much
Like
Nadja and Laszlo I think they're pretty desensitized about it even before being vampires, Laszlo canonically kills a bunch of raccoons in S1 so yeah they don't give a fuck
Nandor would fucking cut his feet off if he accidentally stumped in a dog honestly, he loves animals so fucking much, he says "Hello little goat :)" he wishes to ride a bee his best fries was a horse
That said
He is capable of making the choice of killing an animal, he chooses to kill his horse because it would save his ass and he chooses to kill the dodo bird even after meeting him (like most people. I think Nandor thinks about hurting animals just like a lot of people. Hurting animals is bad and not morally correct except for when I'm eating them then it's okay and nice) (i do think like most people he does get pretty uncomfortable if >he< needs to kill the animal, even more after Jahan, so yeah)
AND THEN GUILLERMO
I don't know about Guillermo guys
I think he does get a little bit more self conscious about hurting an animal then hurting a human, but he would kick a dog if it's annoying him
He would also act as if he's so so sorry about it only if someone sees it
I don't think he goes out of his way to kill an animal but he would without even thinking about it if it's on his way
The "little serial killer Guillermo" part of my brain is also keen to the idea of him killing small animals when he was young and then after learning "oh people don't do this, I need to pretend I care"

OK I'm in a weird spot creatively atm
I have a lot of ideas for fanart and fanfics TOO many
doesn't help that when I start I get stuck and can't finish
this mainly happens with my fic ideas
like I have an Idea for a wwdits au that mainly exist cuz I rewatched a film I liked and thought hey what if I mixed this with my gay vampire hyperfixation?
well this happened with TWO films I like but one was a fic idea and one was a drawing idea
but I don't wanna starting writing it cause I don't really know how I'm going to go about writing this
doesn't help that most of my ideas that I wanna write down (like the au idea) I probably can't fit into a one shot and I'm bad at staying focused on long form fics (cough cough my serial killer pre canon guillermo fic cough cough) BUT LIKE I ALSO JUST SUCK AT FOCUSING ON WRITING FICS IN GENERAL
so like atm I have a million wips on my laptop 5 of which are one shots 2 if I sit down an actually write would take up at least three chapters and a million ideas I wanna write down but IDK HOW LONG THEY WILL TAKE
what doesn't help that my brain is weird and I can't really focus on two mediums at once
like I started having trouble writing around when I picked up pixel art again
this isn't to say I hate drawing
I LOVE drawing (always have and always will) but like I kinda wanna finish a fic again?
I DID IT TWICE I CAN DO IT AGAIN DAMN IT

Irt the latest wwdits ep, I agree that the female characters’ writing has been more lackluster than before, which is saying something since it does follow the typical “unless it’s a Girl Show, most of the MCs are men, and there are less women characters to focus on men” mold u find in a lot of media
But like
You’re supposed to hate how Marwa has been treated, and the way her story ended?
This is very much a “horrible, shitty person MCs” show, for starters, and the way she is treated is supposed to remind you of just how selfish, warped, and uncompassionate Nandor can be, after the last season where we saw a softer side. The show needs to make sure we know his awfulness is still there. As viewers we are meant to recognize her mistreatment and have sympathy for her off the bat, with the arc climaxing in a way where a beloved, less shitty MC also gets caught in and hurt by the mistreatment, furthering and ensuring the viewers reaction
I do agree there’s some issues with the treatment of PoC and women that extends beyond what is necessary for the narrative, and some aspects could have been changed, but this arc itself is not some horrific thing? The MCs kill ppl all the time?
Lazlo is canonically Jack the Ripper, who targeted, murdered, and sexually mutilated (and assaulted, pre or post death) sex workers, with, in the shows time, one of his topiaries being the vulva of one of the victims.
Previously, Nandor killed and terrorized countless ppl pre-turning, and I doubt all his wives were happily consenting to the marriage.
Nadja is the most self centered of them all, willing to backstab and kill anyone at the drop of a dime, if they even slightly annoy her, and rarely shows remorse, yet is still a fan favorite. Guillermo, the 1 fan fav, has orchestrated the deaths of a massive amount of people by luring them to the vampires to be slain.
(Past seasons’) Collin was designed as a character that feeds of negative energy, and shows little remorse over the despair and harm he causes 24/7, casually draining his friends without a care.
They are all serial killers (excluding Collin, debatably), and a sexual sadist at best and full on rapist at worse in Lazlo’s case!

I think it's kind of funny that people ignore that william was canonically fat in the 80s. Like even if you hate the silver eyes art, that's still text in the book, and also i go into any william related tag and trip over 50 thousand slightly thotted up dave millers so what's the truth lol

Of course people misunderstand Guillermo, he's a fat man having M/M sexual tension. They can't fetishize him traditionally (drooling over abs) so they resort to infantilization. Ripped or skinny dudes get to be hot AND complicated, but fat guys need to 'prove' their appeal by being Unproblematic Sweethearts.
God, you're so right though. People have such a specific image in their heads about who Guillermo is, because he's fat and wears sweaters, and it's completely ignoring literally every canon aspect of his character.
The funniest thing is that a huge part of his characterization is actually based around people underestimating him for those exact reasons. Guillermo is so good at being a literal serial killer because people take him at face value, just like so many fans do.
Guillermo is a serial killer. He actively hunts and feeds people to vampires, including people he knows already. He is actively hostile towards other familiars because he views them as threats to his place. He is totally fine with cleaning up the bodies of murder victims and burying them in his backyard. He is viciously manipulative. He is a terrifyingly good fighter and has killed DOZENS of vampires on his own.
He's also fat and wears soft clothes and has glasses and is soft spoken and has a ton of domestic skills and is incredibly intelligent and funny.
These things are not mutually exclusive. He's a complicated character and everyone who reduces him down to the An Unproblematic Sweetheart™ does his writing and character a massive disservice.

please elaborate on ur “anti serial killer guillermo tag”, if you don’t mind! i feel like we as a fandom don’t really discuss this enough yknow?? curious to hear ur thoughts
I've written stuff on this before lol but I'm kind of drained at the moment so am too lazy to look it up, if you want to dig through my 'char: guillermo the relentless' tag it's in there somewhere. I also edited that 'anti-serial killer' tag to clarify a little more because I don't want to be like...shitty about other people's headcanons. I just personally feel like canon refutes the idea that Guillermo is emotionally closed off and SO creepy and weird he'll happily bring people to be eaten and would maybe even be killing people without association with the vampires. he is a killer but the specific phrase 'serial killer' is like calculating and methodical, and based on a pattern. technically Guillermo is a direct accessory to mass murderers and I know that's semantics but if you think he wouldn't lean HARD on those semantics... plus he absolutely does care- about Jeremy, about the Mosquito Collectors, about vampire!Derek, in 2 of the 3 situations he'd even be better off if something bad happened to them but he makes it a point to save them at personal risk. he's leapt in to save both vampire and human lives many, many times throughout the series. I think once he puts a name and an identity to a person, he doesn't want that person to get hurt and feels bad if bad stuff happens to them. if he can treat it like sourcing takeout - well, he loves his master and his vampire family, they need to eat. humans eat burgers and cows are freaking adorable. he'd better get used to it if he wants to be a vampire anyway.
but if he knows someone is a huge asshole? or belongs to a group of huge assholes? absolutely that'll impact his decision on who he brings home, if he can have that power over someone who deserves it. less Catholic guilt for him, net win for the universe, what do you mean it's not technically a good deed? he knew that guy when he was 16 and he made sure the motherfucker had NOT improved with age.
he's not a saint, he's highly fucked up, but he's ruled by his heart in both the best and worst ways and he knows it. that's my personal headcanon, anyway.
