Finally Getting Help (pt 3)
first | last | Masterpost | Next
What Tim and Bruce found was completely ridiculous. It really wasn’t hard to find the Doctors Fenton’s website but it was ridiculous! It was outdated and gaudy with animations of cartoony ghosts everywhere. If it hadn’t been for how clear Danny was about his parents' names Tim would have skipped right over it. But when he got past the terrible website design and started reading it his stomach just dropped lower and lower.
The writing was clean and scientific though it couldn’t disguise the malicious delight they took in tearing the creatures they called ‘ghosts’ apart. Whatever these ghosts really were Danny had been internalizing this attitude about Himself for years! They also bragged about their weapons and their government contract. So whether that was true or not Danny hadn’t been lying or delusional, it was his parents. And regardless of what these ghosts actually were it was obvious they were supernatural so RR sent a link to the website to Zatana.
(link)
RR: What do you think?
Tana: Lol is this a joke?
RR: I wish, I know it looks like one but no, this is deadly serious.
Tana: Hang on
Red Robin put down his phone to give Zatana the time to read over the site and looked more into Maddy and Jack Fenton while she did. He found their graduation certificates, and pictures of them in college with what must have been a much younger Vlad. So they were actually doctors of some sort, they had their doctorate, though that didn’t exactly make it any less likely they had gone fully off the rails now.
His phone dinged and he picked it up to see one short message from Zatana.
Tana: I’m coming to the cave.
Tim sighed and put his phone back down, spinning his chair to face B who was hunched over the computer typing furiously. “Zatana is on her way, I asked for her opinion of the Fenton’s research and she must think it’s big.” He said as he dug out a domino mask.
“Hm,” B sounded and went to get his cowl. “Report?”
“The Doctors Fenton are doctors, they got their doctorates though I don’t know in what yet. They’ve been friends with Vlad since university and they certainly at least think they’re studying ghosts. Their website has articles on behaviours and biology, and how to hunt and hurt ghosts. They brag about a government contract.” Tim summarized. “You?”
“The Ghost Investigation Ward does exist and they are a government agency but they only seem to be active in the town of Amity Park and they’re so inept! It wasn’t hard to hack them, they’re trying to sound mysterious and a little dangerous talking about protecting humanity from invasions from other worlds but I don’t think they’re actually that competent,” Batman said with a scowl.
“The only reason we didn’t know about this was because we weren’t looking! And it’s possible Danny is right and they were jamming calls from Amity to the JL, but I have a terrible feeling what actually happened if that the call came through and someone heard them talking about ghosts and rogue government agencies, assumed it was a prank and blocked them,” Bruce said massaging his temples.
“Ah,” Tim said, his heart dropping at how plausible that sounded. Could they have saved Danny before, if they had taken that call seriously.
“And Vlad is the mayor of his town, there are articles about Danny fighting him in public. It seems like everyone knew their relationship was antagonistic at best and No One defended him. The GIW also listed him in their special thanks for helping fund them. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s been using them as a tool to threaten and control Danny.” Batman said with cold fury. Tim took a deep breath, and exhaled slowly.
“We weren’t able to protect him, but we will avenge him. And we’ll keep him safe Now,” Tim reminded his father. Privately thinking that as soon as he could he was going to tell Jason about this so they could Really make sure Vlad never came near Danny again. An arrest just wasn’t strong enough for a man like that. He wasn’t going to tell Bruce that though, obviously.
The sound of the Zeta tube interrupted their moment as Zatana arrived, looking slightly more ruffled then she usually did. She must have really rushed here, which was a bit worrying.
“Zatana,” Batman greeted.
“Hello Batman, before we talk I need to check your wards.” She said already walking past them.
“Hm,” Batman sounded, making RR smile a little, how Batman made that sound mean so many different things always sort of amazed him.
“I need to check the ones on your home too. And I’d like to meet the boy you have under your care,” She said briskly.
“How did you know about the boy?” Batman asked gruffly.
“Lucky guess,” she said briskly, her hands glowed as she walked around the cave, making seemingly random gestures as if touching or pulling on invisible threads. None of the bats really understood magic so they left her to it. When she was done they let her up into the manner, she knew their identities already after all and she checked all the wards on the home very thoroughly, occasionally casting spells to reinforce them. They collected Dick and Damian trailing after them curiously as they went as well.
“Alright, can I meet the boy now?” She asked, turning towards Bruce who crossed his arms and puffed out his chest a bit.
“Not till you explain to us what’s going on,” He growled and Zatana looked over the curious stubborn faces surrounding her and sighed.
“Fine,” she allowed, resigned. She rubbed her temples as she looked around for a chair and sunk down into it. “So what the Fentons seem to be referring to as Ghosts are actually denizens of the Infinite Realms, the space in between every world and afterlife. Some of the beings there were once people who died but many aren’t. They’re also known to be very powerful and quite violent though thankfully not particularly interested in the living. The fact that the Government is apparently messing with something like this is very bad news.
“Constantine and I have been keeping half an eye on the situation in Amity Park but they had their own pair of Heroes, Phantom and Red Huntress, who seemed to have the situation well under control so we weren’t all that worried about it. We weren’t tracking the more human elements of the GIW and the Fentons,” She bit her lip and thought for a moment.
“When Tim sent me that website and I was made aware of those, that changed things. What’s worse is the photo the Fentons’ have of their family. Their son… we knew Phantom looked young but ghosts often stay at a younger age than they really are, with how powerful he was we assumed he was Old. But he looks exactly like the Fenton’s son. Did they not notice he was dead or…” She looked around at their faces, apparently getting her answer from their expressions.
“There have been rumours for a long time about a very rare and powerful sort of living dead, humans soaked in the pure energy of the infinite realms resulting in a still living ancient. It’s so rare that people usually think it’s a fairy tale but with the work Phantom’s parents do it makes a sick sort of sense. And what it means is that that boy you have stashed away is basically a baby God and we all have to be very careful.”
There was a heavy silence as they all processed what she was saying. “Are you… sure?” Tim asked, uncertainly.
“I won’t be till I meet him, but I’m as sure as I can be without that at the moment,” she said firmly.
Tim sighed and pulled out his phone. “Cas is with him, I’ll text her to see if she’s up to meeting you. If he’s that powerful we don’t want to push him right?” He asked as he typed out a text to Cas.
“Yes. Like I said he’s been acting as a hero in Amity, he seems like a good kid but I have no doubt in my mind if he’s pushed too far we could have a truly apocalyptic situation on our hands,” She said which made Tim swallow thickly.
His phone dinged and he checked it. “Danny is willing to meet you but he’s really tired so go easy on him and don’t stay long,” Tim relayed her message.
“Alright that’s fine, thank you. Show me the way please,” She requested.
Bruce took over, leaving the way. “We don’t want to overwhelm him, I think only I and Zatana should go in, with Cas still there since he seems to feel safe with her,” Bruce informed his children.
“Alright, just tell us everything soon!” Dick demanded and Bruce’s lips twitched up in just the suggestion of a smile as he nodded to them.
He took off his cowl, he wasn’t in his full uniform anyway and he didn’t want to scare Danny. Besides if he had been a hero even if he clocked Bruce he would understand.
“Hello Danny, it’s a pleasure to meet you, I’m Zatana,” She introduced herself s she followed Bruce in. She would have offered her hand to shake but Danny was half hiding behind Cas sitting on the bed.
“It’s nice to meet you too. What’s with the outfit?” He asked curiously which made her laugh.
“I’m a hero, one of the less known ones. I’m part of Justice League Dark which is their supernatural division along with Constantine and Deadman and a few others. He’s a ghost, but I assure you the government hasn’t been giving him any trouble, probably because they knew they wouldn’t get away with it.”
“So I’m just lucky then,” Danny said with a bitter curl to his lips.
“As a hero, I want to ask, are you Phantom?” She asked rather bluntly.
Bruce shivered as the temperature in the room suddenly dropped a few degrees and Danny’s eyes started to swirl with green as he glared at Zatana who managed to barely react. Batman noticed how her back tensed a bit but it was barely there. “You know?” Danny demanded. “You knew about what was going on in Amity and you didn’t help?!”
“I’m very sorry Danny,” She said genuinely. “We knew something was going on, but we didn’t look closely enough. We thought that you were an older ghost just of someone who died young because of your strength, and it looked like things were under control. Normally our involvement wouldn’t have been appreciated, intruding on someone’s haunt, so we didn’t look any closer. I am so sorry we overlooked you but we’re going to make up for it now I promise.
“I’ve checked and reinforced the wards on the house so nothing should be able to come in uninvited, and I’m going to contact the rest of the JLD. We’re going to go to Amity, we’ll figure this out and deal with it I promise.”
The temperature in the room slowly went back up, Danny was still upset, but he didn’t seem like he was about to snap anymore. While Zatana had been talking Cas had started gently rubbing Danny’s back and that seemed to be helping too. After a moment Danny looked up again and nodded, accepting the help.
“The veil must be very thin there, to let so many ghosts through?” Zatana probed gently.
“It is, but more than that two years ago my parents succeeded in building a portal to what they call the Ghost Zone. This kinda green world of floating islands.
“A portal,” Zatana said flatly, blinking rapidly. “To the Infinite Realms?”
“Ah is that what it’s really called? Ya probably? That’s how everyone’s been getting through. How I got my powers too, the ghosts call me a halfa, but I’m not the only one. Vlad’s one too.”
Batman heard Zatana mutter “Two?” softly, baffled and alarmed but she nodded. Bruce filed that information away too, it seemed Vlad was even more of a threat then he’d first appeared to be.
“Alright, I’ll get as many of the JLD together as I can and we’ll head to Amity. We’ll shut down the portal and deal with this.” She said determinedly.
From the look on Danny’s face he didn’t really believe her, but he nodded again and leaned against Cas. “Good luck I suppose,” he muttered and sighed, rubbing his face.
“Just… tell me if you get in over your heads okay, I’m used to dealing with all this stuff.” God he sounded so tired, the poor kid.
“I will, but don’t worry about us, just take care of yourself okay? This is a good place to be, I promise you won’t have to be alone anymore.” Zatana assured him. She probably had more questions, but it was very obvious that Danny was getting tired.
“Bruce is good dad,” Cas chimed in, speaking up for the first time. It embarrassed Bruce a little but he smiled at them and nodded a little.
“Thank you,” Danny said, his shoulder slumped and his back curled. “Can I go to bed now?”
“Of course Chum,” Bruce agreed, starting to shoo Zatana out of the bedroom with Cas on their heels. When they closed the door behind them Bruce heard the lock click quietly closed behind them. He really hoped that Danny would feel safe enough to sleep well.

So I got this random ass DCxDP Idea out of nowhere, so just hear me out for a second.
Vlad steals the infimap again, tells it to take him to his future, he ends up on this random ass mountainside in what seems to be the middle of the Himalayas. Danny gets sent by Clockwork to go retrieve the infimap. By this time, Vlad has discovered an odd pool of ectoplasm just through one of the caves in the mountain he'd landed on. It seems different from usual, but doesn't have enough time to inspect it before Danny shows up and re-claims the infimap and leaves Vlad there, he'd been oddly more violent, especially after seen Vlad with the pool of ecto.
Noting the location of the odd pool of ectoplasm, Vlad attempts to return to Illinois, only to find that he's several hundred years in the past, rather than just somewhere in the Himalayas in current time like he'd thought. He's now stranded here with no way of getting back to his own time, as the technology to even attempt to do so wouldn't exist until at least the 1980s. So, he returns to the pool of ecto to try and figure out what to do.
Eventually, he decides to gain power for himself in this time, he changed his name, starts a cult surrounding himself and the pool, gathers resources using his powers, and has his new subordinates build a tenple for him around the pool. His subordinates need to be able to defend him, so he hires a master swordsman to teach them how to weild weapons, he ends up following alongside the lessons either from afar, invisibly, or both, so he can claim to have known this skill all along. Slowly, the group expands, and someone attempts to kill Vlad. He sicks his now assassin level subordinates on the attacker, and thus, the League of Assassins is born.
All is well as Vlad waits patiently to catch up with Time. He'd found out early on that the pool he'd dubbed the Lazarus Pit could heal the sick and kill the healthy, so he used this as an excuse for his ghostly immortality. He ends up having a couple of paramors and a couple of children, which makes his core sing. Then, oddly enough, a young man shows up to request training from the group, he almost looked enough like Danny that Vlad had to take a second to realize that it was several years to early for the boy to have even been born; let alone a young adult.
Turns out, the young man was Bruce Wayne. This was certainly an odd turn of events, as it turned out Brucie Wayne was Batman. This revilation didn't bother him for long, and Talia had taken a liking to the man, so he instructed her to keep an eye on him.
Things were going well, Talia had been doing well keeping track of the fine detective. And had even coerced him into a relationship with herself, that might prove rathar useful down the line. Danny was due to be born the upcoming year. And Vlad was making preparations. While he couldn't take the boy just after his birth, that would mean he'd never become a halfa, he could bide his time and become a part of the boy's life earlier on, and take him under his wing after the accident.
He wasn't expecting Talia to come to him and tell him she was pregnant. He tried not to think too much on it. He knew of Damian Wayne's existence, and this child was likely that same boy. However, what he couldn't get put of his head was the sudden revalation to how similar the youngest Wayne and Daniel looked. They were even the same age. He decided to put it out of his mind, but the thoughts were wrenched back to the forefront of his mind when he found out Talia was pregnant with twins. He didn't like this, Damian had been an only child as far as he knew, so why had things changed?
He became further concerned when he tracked down Maddie and Jack to attempt to re-insert himself in their lives, only to find Maddie wasn't pregnant. Something had changed, and Vlad was panicked. Somehow, Damian Wayne would now be a part of a set of twins, and Danny would either be born later than last time or not at all.
Vlad tried to look into when and where the change had occurred, but without complete knowledge of how the timeline had occurred before his presence changed it, he had no idea what could have happened.
That was until the birth of twin boys, Damian came out perfectly healthy. The second boy had been very sick, but Vlad would recognize those blue eyes anywhere. It was Danny. He immediately ordered for the infant to be placed into the pits to heal and promptly secluded himself to his chambers to have a mental breakdown.
This didn't make any sense! Daniel was Jack and Maddie's son! Not Bruce Wayne's! But this made all too much sense: why there hadn't been any photos of Daniel before age 8 in the Fenton household, how Danny looked just slightly different than his parents, but in a way that could have feasibly been explained by latent genes. But it wasn't latent genes, Daniel Fenton wasn't Jack and Maddie's biological son, was he? Then, the final nail in the coffin, Vlad was reminded of his and Danny's first meeting, the boy had immediately tensed uppon seeing him, and had muttered something under his breath, something Vlad had brushed off as an insult. But now he thought about it, his tone had been questioning, almost scared. Danial had called him Grandfather.

Funnily enough, I've never been too big of a Jason Todd fan. Not because I don't like him, he's a great character, but because DC fails over and over again to give him justice and treat him right.
The number of times alone this boy has been beaten by his adoptive father, betrayed, and forgotten are far too many, far too much.
And the constant portrayal of Jason as this volatile, violent, mindless man is tiresome, lazy in all senses of the word and overdone. I understand that Jason was unstable after he left the pit, I mean, who wouldn't? The trauma of his death alone could've sent anyone crazy, but then to experience everything else afterwards, including having to come to terms that Bruce not only did not kill his murder but also replaced him, leaving Jason to grieve what was once his and what he should've gotten, of course he'd be less than okay.
Again, I'm not the biggest Jason Todd fan but I do wish more people would see just how much good Jason has in his heart, how kind and gentle he can be once his walls are down, when he's no longer constantly analyzing your actions and wondering why would you bother talking to him, getting closer to him.
In my opinion, a man who is so gentle with children, who constantly gives second, third, and fourth chances to people who don't deserve it, who despite it all still wants to make a change and protect the city that failed him, couldn't possibly be anything but the most caring partner. Not just partner, no, also brother and friend.
We all know what he did to Tim and Damian, there are reasons, such as his mental instability at the time and rage, and though those are not excuses, I believe Jason would still drop everything to go save his family. He might complain, he might brood, but family is something important to him even when just looking at them hurts him. He lost his loving mother, stepmother, far too early and it's not hard to imagine that even with all the pain and grief inside his torn heart, the little boy inside Jason still craves the warmth of a family.
Just look at the way he treats his friends, at the way he helps them through situations no one else would, how caring and attentive he is. Jason is gentle, sure, he is rough and mean and he's got blood on his hands, but Jason is made of love.
Jason was made to be loved.
So I think, whether platonic or romantically, Jason would treat you so well. He'd scold you for not wearing warm clothes during winter, "We're in Gotham, you fucking moron, you wanna freeze to death?", all while wrapping you with his jacket or scarf. He'd make sure you're eating at least something every day, and if not, he would immediately put you under his arm, maybe over his shoulder, and take you to the nearest food chain he could find, "I don't want to hear you complaining about headaches when all you had today was a cup of coffee and gum.".
Lord, he'd be torn between freaking out and being extremely annoyed that you got hurt, be it at work, a fight, or just out of clumsiness. But no matter what, his hands would always be so, so gentle when touching you. The tip of his fingers brushing under the injury, as light as a breeze, his other hand holding the back of your neck, or your bicep, perhaps even your hand just to make sure you're there, with him.
Jason would both hush you gently, "I know, sweetheart, we're almost done.", and also tease because he's a little shit at heart, "If you had a little more awareness than a ten year old this wouldn't have happened, idiot."
And physical touches? Oh, love, Jason is a sucker for intimacy.
I know for a fact he wouldn't be comfortable for a long time with anyone in his personal space due to the torture he went through. The trauma would make his skin crawl any time someone got too close or brushed past him, he'd hate it so much because it makes him weak but also because he can't let anyone try to hug him without feeling sick to his stomach.
And with you it's no different. It would take a long time, a lot of trust being built up, conflict and confessions, maybe he'd even open up to you with his head on your lap as you brushed his hair softly, a big, big step for him after years of not letting anyone close. He'd tell you about the Joker, about having hope in Bruce, about his biological mother. And he'd feel vulnerable like a child when you wipe his tears gently without a word.
Once he starts craving your touch, though, regardless if you two have a platonic or romantic relationship, Jason is putty in your hands. Forehead kisses when you part ways, cuddling on the couch while he reads and you're on your phone, thighs touching when sitting close, even a little bit of hand holding when he's stressed and needs to play with your fingers.
He's like a big cat that's constantly making his way onto your chest, stealing your breath and making biscuits on your skin, making sure you're giving him sufficient pats every day.
It's a little part of him that he's barely able to properly allow space for. There's still so much hurt in Jason, so much confusion and desperation, hatred and upset, that he'd probably still close off sometimes, try acting tough so you'd see how fucked up he is, how he's not truly worth of your love.
And yet.
And yet all it'd take for him to go soft and pliant in your hands would be a single touch, cupping his cheeks, brushing his skin softly with your thumbs, right under his pretty emerald eyes, making sure his gaze is on you and only you. Just like that, he'd slump his shoulders and bring you into his arms, breathing a sigh of relief and squeezing you close, your heartbeats synching.
He wouldn't remember when he started feeling safest in your arms but it'd feel like it was since forever. Like there was no one else but you.
Jason was made to be loved, though he is a little broken and a little tainted, lost like a child and hateful like a sinner, your love might just be his salvation, something he's greedy for, selfish for, even when he's so hesitant of somehow hurting you.

So...anyone remember that version of the Rejected Soulmate AU where Danny turns Tim into a Halfa against his will and Tim developed picture powers and trapped Phantom in a painting?
Well I do and I'm about to make it everyone else's problem.
When Danny is finally released from the painting he is not okay. He had been trapped in an attic where pretty much no one went to and then everyone outright avoided for years.
He was essentially stuck in solitary confinement for Ancients know how long. People don't just walk away from that and get to be perfectly sane afterwords. Whats more was that Dannys core was damaged right before being picturefied. Usually the damage sustained would have been nothing more than the equivalent of a skinned knee but being surrounded on all sides by the essence or not only another ghost but another Halfa...well...when two ghosts mix thier essences together they can create a new core.
A baby.
Unfortunately for Phantom both of them were Halfas and Danny had no access to human requirements such as food and water.
Phantoms body couldn't handle the strain of a pregnancy and he had a miscarriage. Worse still, he was constantly surrounded by Tim's essence so he just...kept getting pregnant and kept having miscarriage after miscarriage. When Danny was released he sobbed. It wasn't unusual so hear sobbing or crying from what was dubbed "Dannys room" all around him were the empty cores of the children he had lost, splayed across the floor without a glow and without a life. He looked up at the wall he had been hanging on and saw a distinct discoloration where his portrait used to be. For the love of the Ancients, how long had be been trapped there??
Danny eventually managed to calm down and went over to one of the boxes that hadn't been touched since Alfred stopped coming he tried not to think about that and quietly dumped the contents out onto the floor and used the box to gather up the so many far too many cores.
He would hold a funeral for them all at a later date, but for now he needed to escape the manor.
Sneaking down the stairs he kept his senses sharp. There seemed to be no one in the manor and it appeared to have been that way for quite some time. Alfred would rise from the grave himself if he knew how much dust had accumulated in his absence.
Danny walked past a puddle on the living room floor absently noting the large stain on the ceiling that periodically let a drop splash down into the dampness below. What had happened here? Clearly Tim hadn't died the rest of the way anytime soon after locking Danny up and throwing away the key, so what was up with the manor? How long had Danny been gone? Did they abandon him along with the house? That thought sent his stomach churning.
He knew Tim didn't want him. He had been okay with that so long as he played with him. Most soulmate bonds were platonic and Danny wasn't above pestering someone for attention. Red Robin had almost always seemed annoyed by his presence though and never really gave him a chance even when he seemed to be having fun with whatever "mini game" he had constructed (he made sure to base them off of Reds own hobbies and likes) he had seemed to be holding himself back. Tim never opened up to Danny.
Now Danny was the one trying to avoid Tim as he slipped out one of the manors secret passageways. Thank you old school money and your paranoid aristocrats. He wondered it Bruce even knew of all the secret passageways the Phantom had scoped out in Wayne Manor as he slipped out of a bush behind some old house on another property. Judging on how he had to phase his way out of the hidden door and under the bushes roots he'd go out on a limb and guess no one had used this one in quite a while.
He decided to still stick to the shadows. Even if he had escaped the manor it didn't change the fact that if Tim didn't already know he escaped he would soon enough and would be out looking for him with the rest of the furry patrol.
What about Hood? Did he still hate him? Danny wasn't even sure what went wrong. One day they were friends and then the next he wouldn't even look at him. Did Tim say something? Would he stoop so low? Either way he didn't think Hood would help him. He could feel Hoods Ecto-signature over in the direction of Crime Alley so he couldn't have been trapped for two long, right?
Wrong. So so wrong. According to the date on the electronic billboard he had been trapped for 133 years. Ancients. In other news Tim Drake had been attacked and fallen into a coma not too long ago, which would explain why Danny was free and not being chased. That and his collar that hid his ecto signature. Every day he's thankful for it.
Now would be the best time to leave Gotham. Now while everyone is distracted and Tim can't shove Danny back into his own private Hell.
By the time Tim realizes Danny is missing he will already be long gone.

if everyone in ragnarok had been in character
*Surtur scene*
Thor: Wait, is this a thing I do? Talk to myself? Have I always done this? It seems rather unhealthy.
Peter Parker: WOW, that’s judgey.
************************* *The Tragedy of Loki scene*
Loki as Odin, lounging around eating grapes: And that, my subjects, is how a total dipshit would impersonate me. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have actual ruling to do.
**************************
*Tragedy of Loki Part 2*
Thor: Nothing will stop Mjolnir, even your face.
Loki as Odin: That would be terrifying if I didn’t know how to do this *fucking vanishes*
Thor: Fuck, I forgot he can do that.
**********************
Sidewalk scene:
*portal opens up underneath Loki*
Loki: *turns into a bird and flies above said portal*
Dr. Strange: Fuck, I forgot he can do that.
***********************
*Odin’s death scene*
Odin: I love you, my sons.
Thor: ....are you telling me, Father, that you made no plans in the event of your death? Which was inevitable, because as you yourself once said, “We are not gods. We are born, we live, we die.”????
Odin: *fucks off into glitter no that is seriously what happened*
Thor: That’s very pretty, Father, but I’m still angry.
Loki: Now I’m REALLY not sorry I sent him to Shady Pines.
**************************
*after elevator scene*
Thor: Hey, what’s that on your back?
Loki: Oh come on, that’s the oldest trick in the---
Thor: Never mind, it’s just your hair. *picks it off Loki’s shoulder*
Loki: For a moment I thought you were going to attach an obedience disc to my back and leave me convulsing for the Grandmaster to find and presumably melt.
Thor: That greatly offends me! Only a complete ass would do such a thing! The only way it could be worse is if I made a self-aggrandizing speech about heroism and change while engaging in an act of torture!
Loki: That would indeed be nonsensical. Nearly as bad as me plotting to betray you for mere coin. And confessing to it, before I am safely out of the way of your inevitable counterattack.
*both stare at the camera like on The Office*
**************************
*Hulk turns back into Bruce*
Bruce Banner: *completely freaking the fuck out* Wait, what do you mean I’ve been murdering slaves for the past to years? The whole reason I left Earth was to keep from hurting anyone else! Are we going to address this at all? At any point? Ever?
Thor: No, apparently we are to engage in ten minutes’ worth of jokes about the anal cavity of one called the Devil.
Bruce: .....wHAT?
****************************
*after being promoted to Executioner* Skurge: Um, my queen?
Hela: Yes?
Skurge: Why does the Goddess of Death need an Executioner? I mean, you can pretty much kill with a touch, right? You rule over the realm of the dead?
Hela: ...you know what? I’m honestly not sure.
Skurge: I mean, if having a fuckton of swords makes you the Goddess of Death, does that mean that if I  go to CostCo and get a cartload of drain cleaner, I’m the God of Death?
Hela: .....
*********************************
*Surtur destroys Asgard*
Korg: Whoops there goes your foundation.
Asgardians: Who the fuck is this asshole can we just grieve for our entire civilization in peace for ten seconds

Soul(Mates) Chapter: One
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x reader, Azriel x Elain, (eventually) Azriel x reader
Plot: after a night of celebration the subject of soulmates came up and with your permission, Strange decided to see if he can track down your soulmate.
Tumblr media
Growing up, everyone would talk about the name of their soulmate written in gold on their right arm. They would talk about what they thought their soulmate would look like and how much they wanted to meet them.
Unfortunately for you, you were born without a name on said arm and you wondered if you were destined to be alone. Your parents did their best to reassure you that your soulmate was out there but hearing your peers tell you that you were going to die alone was taking a toll on you.
By age 30, you accepted that you might never get a soulmate. Of course, you knew you could date someone who hasn’t met their soulmate yet but seeing their name in gold reminded you that their soulmate was out there waiting for them.
Because of that, you decide to date men whose soulmates have passed away. Of course that dating pool was minimal, especially if you wanted to date someone around your age. That’s why you felt fortunate when Bucky Barnes came into your life and changed your life forever.
When you first got together he informed you that he wanted something serious. He told you about his past and was ready to settle down. You wanted to ask about his soulmate when he beat you to the punch “She passed away a few decades ago”.
Looking at his wrist, you noticed his soulmate's name was in black ink, indicating they had already passed. “I’m so sorry Bucky” you managed to get out without crying for him.
“It’s ok” Bucky replied “I never got the chance to meet her because I was under Hydra's control. I only knew about the year she passed away when I tried to see if she ever got married to someone who didn’t have their soulmate but she never did”.
You felt your heart break for Bucky because you could tell he felt sad for not actually getting to meet his soulmate at least once. “I know we’re not soulmates so we won’t have that deep bond that soulmates have but I promise to be by your side for as long as you want me” you promised as you wiped away the tears that were starting to slip from Bucky’s eyes.
-
True to your word, you have stuck by Bucky for five beautiful years. Of course, your relationship had its ups and downs but for the most part, you two were genuinely happy.
Everyone was happy that you two were happy and completely forgot you two weren’t actually soulmates until one night after a party Tony had thrown for Bruce and Natasha to celebrate their engagement.
Stephen had let it slip that he had been working on a spell to find someone’s soulmate. He was complaining that he didn’t know anyone who didn’t have a soulmate.
That’s when Tony chimed in that you didn’t have a soulmate and caused everyone to look over at you. You started to grow uncomfortable with the attention now on you and started to protest.
“Come on y/n, aren’t you a little bit curious to know if you actually do have a soulmate or not?” Tony asked and caused a few nods from your friends.
You weren’t going to lie, you were curious but you also didn’t want to ruin the life you’ve built with Bucky.
Sensing your curiosity, Bucky leaned over and whispered into your ear “It’s ok doll, this won’t change anything between us”.
Before you could even think you blurted out “ok”.
Everyone sent you a small smile as you got up and held out your hand so Stephen could get a drop of your blood for the spell.
After a few minutes of nothing happening you let out a shaky breath “See, no soulmate”.
Just as you were making your way back to Bucky, everyone’s eyes went wide as a portal appeared behind you. “What are you guys-”
You stopped when you noticed what they were looking at. Just then a tall, tan man with pointed ears and violet eyes walked through the portal and caused the team to go into defense mode.
“Who are you and why did you create a portal in the middle of my townhouse” the mystery man asked.

I absolutely adore your Batman and Jason Todd fics!!! I was wondering if you had any fic recs? ♥️
Thank you Anon!! I’m so glad you enjoy my writing :D
There’s so much incredible Jason & Bruce fic out there and I’m more than happy to share some recs! I’m unfortunately not the best about remembering to keep track of fics I enjoy, so this is by no means a definitive/comprehensive list of my favorites, but I scrolled through my bookmarks and found a few fics that will hopefully satisfy your Jason & Bruce cravings :)
Stargazer by LemonadeGarden @lemonadegarden (47,656 words, Multi-chap, Complete)
Author’s Summary:
“Jason Todd is seriously injured during patrol one night, and is forced to stay at the manor to recuperate until his injuries are healed. To pass the time, he makes a list of things he never got to do before he died. Except there's one small problem: most of them involve Bruce, and Jason doesn't really think Bruce cares all that much about him anymore. This is a story about how wrong he is, but I made it sad anyway.”
Truly what can I even say about this fic. This is the story that made me fall in love with Jason Todd, and Bruce & Jason reconciliation fics, and Bruce & Jason destination/road trip fics, and basically everything I care most about in this fandom. I’d been a Superbat fan for a while before I started getting into the Batfam side of things, and around the time I read this I was only just starting to read stories about the Robins. This was the gateway fic. This was the one that caught me and made it stick. Formative, definitive, one of my all time faves.
this kind of weather by r_astra @heyy-its-skip (46,456 words, Multi-chap, WIP)
Author’s Summary:
“Jason’s at school when his mom dies, and that’s the only reason any of it happens. If he’d been home, if he’d been with her, he would’ve been in the wind before anyone else even knew. Even if they looked, no one ever would’ve found him. He’d have taken to the sewers if that’s what it took, man-eating crocodile guy and all.”
Ohhhhh this fic. Bio-parent Bruce AUs don’t always do it for me, but the fics that get it right get it RIGHT, and this is one of them. Possibly my favorite Jason joins the batfam late fic ever. I’m obsessed with the Jason characterization in this one. Like actually obsessed. Like he is rotating in my brain like a rotisserie chicken at all times constantly 24/7 obsessed. Cannot recommend enough.
Growing Like A Breeze by whaleofatime @cetaceans-pls (6,114 words, Oneshot, Complete)
Author’s Summary:
“April 27th isn't anyone's favourite date, but it's somehow worse than usual today when Bruce gets his car stolen. It's nice of Red Hood to come to his rescue. Nicer even that Jason keeps him company afterwards.”
If you’ve read my fics I think it should be a given that any Jason & Bruce fic tagged “Inexplicable Road Trip” is absolutely going to do it for me. But god, Bruce’s psyche in this one. The man has twisted himself up in more tangles than the Gordian knot. Really fantastic exploration of Bruce & Jason’s relationship and trying to move forward past the destructiveness of grief and blame. I will be thinking about the bumper stickers on Bruce's Hyundai Elantra forever.
through space and time by sparkycap @sparkysomething (6,334 words, Oneshot, Complete)
Author's Summary:
"When an Outlaws mission gets Jason sent back twelve years in the past, he finds himself in a familiar position: stealing something stupid and getting caught by a Batman who wants to give him a second chance. It’s a refreshing change from how encounters with his present-day Batman usually go."
I am a simple woman. Give me a fic where Bruce interacts with Jason without really knowing the significance of who he's interacting with and I will go feral, every time. Absolutely brutal interaction between a well-meaning Bruce and a hurting Jason in this one. Don't want to spoil anything, but there's one line of dialogue in particular that just. Ugh. Fuck me all the way up.
Clearly Calm and Keeping Terrorized by Batbirdies @batbirdies (258,290 words, Multi-Chap, Complete)
Author's Summary:
"Jason made a deal with Bruce, no killing, and there would be no more conflict between them. At least on patrol. Jason reasoned it would be easier to accomplish his goals without constantly fighting Batman along the way. It didn’t change anything, not really. Not until he found an old gift he never knew about and Bruce asked him to dogsit Titus while he and Damian were out of town. Not until the Lazarus Pit started bothering him again. AKA: My take on a Jason rejoins the family fic."
I am once again reccing a Bruce & Jason reconciliation fic (are you perhaps noticing a trend?) This one will break your heart and put it back together again. It's part of a series but can stand alone (though I've read the two works that precede it and highly recommend them as well). 250k+ words about a father and son and the rest of their family trying to figure out how to heal. Genuinely there is so much love in this fic. And trauma! Can't forget the trauma. But also so much love.
Code of Silence by JHSC @jhscdood (9,376 words, Multi-Chap, Complete)
Author's Summary:
"Willis Todd doesn’t die in prison. That doesn’t change much, until it does."
This one is less Jason & Bruce-centric than the others on this list (though Bruce still features, especially in the other works in the series) but it absolutely fits the bill for Jason & his dad content so I'm reccing it anyway. This fic utterly transformed the way I view Willis Todd. Incredibly thoughtful, emotional exploration of trauma and recovery and trying to heal. The whole series is gold.
Good Intentions and the Highest Hopes by rotasha (16,863 words, Multi-Chap, Complete)
Author's Summary:
"Bruce offers each of his children the chance to go on vacation with him, and they get to choose the destination. Jason chooses the one place he thinks Bruce will enjoy the least, out of spite. That’s how the two of them end up going to Disney World."
Another one that perfectly checks all my favorite Bruce & Jason fic boxes. Reconciliation fic? Check. Set in highly specific non-Gotham destination? Check. Bruce not quite knowing how to connect to Jason but trying his best anyway and Jason finally deciding to let him? Check, check, check. Jason's kind of an asshole in this one; I adore him eternally. And I love Bruce so so much in this.
There are so many more I could add but I'm going to leave it at that for now! Hope some of these are new to you & that you enjoy them! And thanks again for reading my work :D

Danny Phantom across the Multiverse
Vlad never learns and like always left his 17 year old nemesis to clean up his mess. So what did Vlad do? He opened the sarcophagus of forever sleep again.
At least he didn't do it for ultimate power again. No he did it because he was desperate, because the Observants finally wanted to lock him up for opening the sarcophagus the first time and releasing Vortex.
So Vlad ran but he didn't want to run forever so he thought he could gain favor from Pariah by releasing him. But that didn't work he just ended up swapping imprisonment for 3000 years for ceasing to exist.
This led to Danny fighting Pariah again, this time without the ecto-skeleton. It was a fierce battle that had the Infinite Realms shaking, the effects of it could be felt in every dimension.
Battered and bruised Danny stood infront Pariah Dark ready to finally end the fight. He crushed Parish's core, but while the old King was fading he didn't want Danny to feel victorious. So he opened up numerous portals behind the halfa that was beginning to suck him in.
While Danny was fighting against the portals with the last of Pariah strength he blasted Danny where his core was and it split into 10 pieces and Danny's energy and body was sucked into them when all but one piece was sucked into the portal.
Clockwork made sure to save one piece so that his grandson could make it back to him and his family.
Once the pieces were spat out the other end of the portals in different dimensions, 9 different Danny's emerged from the pieces.
One Danny found himself stumbling into a Camp that had the campers wearing orange coloured shirts and running around with swords and other kind of weapons. They welcomed him into the camp and helped him recover. He spent 2 years training, questing and trying to find his way back home. Sadly Danny lost his life in the war against the Titans to save his fellow campers.
When he died his core went back to the piece that was being held in Clockworks lair
Another found himself on an island that had dinosaurs and two giant Viking warrior friends fighting to prove who had caught the bigger fish. When they weren't fighting they were training Danny. Sadly he had to leave them in order to find a way home, so he left with a small pirate crew that was led by a man with a straw hat. They had many adventures, they laughed and cried, fought in many battles, fought against the world government and completed their dreams all except Danny who instead of making it home, made one for himself and had lived long enough to meet his great grand children.
Then he passed peacefully in his sleep and made his way back to his grandfather.
Another Danny found himself in a crime ridden city called Gotham instead of helping he decided to find a way home, he knows he should help but this wasn't his dimension he needed to get home. So he started stealing from tech companies in hope to build a portal home. After a few years when he was almost done with the portal the city gained its own vigilante called Batman and he was trying to catch Danny already. The rookie vigilante was well trained but Danny found out that Batman was actually Bruce Wayne (what's with billionaires and their secret life?). Sadly Danny found out that the veil was too thick to punch a hole into the infinite realms so he gave up and became a teacher at Gotham Academy. He eventually married one of his students mothers. A wonderful woman named Paula Crock, they met by accident and got along well. They told each other about their past and decided it didn't matter. Plus she loved it when he broke her ex husband's nose arms and legs. He even punched Bruce Wayne in the face for sending his step daughter on a mission that got her sent to the hospital. Sadly he was gunned down by a criminal while he was shielding his students. On his death bed he promised Paula he would come back for her.
Clockwork promised that he would help Danny reunite with the families he made.
When Max opened his eyes he couldn't remember who he was or how he ended up on the side of the road. Thankfully the Tennyson's gave him a name and adopted him. They even helped him pursue his dream of becoming an astronaut. But thanks to a certain incident he found out he could become something more if he joined the Plumbers. Joining the Plumbers gave him the best and worst times in his life. He made friends he couldn't have met if he didn't join but he also lost friends in this line of work. He also met his ex-wife Verdona who had given him his sons. Then he remembered his past but he couldn't leave his family he made so he didn't look for a way home. His grandson then became a hero like he was when he found the Omnitrix so he trained him. Hoping he didn't make the same mistakes he did, of course Ben made mistakes but at least he was around to help him. Until he wasn't, he was on a mission until he was discovered and had to ask Ben to step up and complete it for him and he did. He was so proud of his grandson, who became a better hero than he ever was. He still helped his grandson when he could even if he didn't want his help. Then one of his grandsons enemies accidentally made a portal to the Infinite Realms and it was going haywire, so he told his grandson and great grandsons to leave so he could shut it down. The only way he could make sure it didn't destroy the world was making it implode which would suck everything in a 10 mile radius into the Infinite Realms. He said good bye to his family and allowed himself to be sucked in.
Max met his Grandfather on the other side and gave him the biggest hug he could. He asked Clockwork if his family was still alive in his original dimension. Clockwork told him that what felt like decades to him over there was only hours here. Then he went on to tell Max that other fragments of him scattered across the Multiverse and would come back when they died or like him enter a realm portal. He also told him that now he had to put the core that was in him with the other core fragments in his lair.

Mending a Family 14/?

Surprise chapter!!!!
Jason dreamt he was floating. The stars were shining above him. He had to get to them. He floated higher and higher… Then he was falling…falling…
Jason opened his eyes. He was floating over his house.
What the actual ever-loving FUCK?!
Jason was freaking out. Suddenly, he stopped floating and fell. Just as he was about to hit the roof, he felt a jerking motion and was floating again. He looked up and saw Danny holding Jason by his arm. Danny gently set Jason on the ground.
“What the fuck,” Jason tried not to curse around Danny, but he felt what had just happened justified his language.
His son had the audacity to giggle, giggle!
“Your powers are coming in, dad. Since you’ve been around me these past few months, the yucky ectoplasm stifling your core has been filtered out, and now your powers are showing!”
What the fuck, what the fuck, what the ever-loving FUCK?! He knew Danny, Jazz, and sometimes Raven would hint (tell him) that he wasn’t human, but he never thought (admitted to himself) it was true!
What was he going to do?
No metas in Gotham.
He wasn’t in Gotham. He wasn’t even a meta; he was dead. Or halfway there, anyway.
Just another reason for da—Bruce to hate me.
No, that didn’t matter. Bruce was nowhere near them. He couldn’t reject or judge Jason anymore.
He’d already judged me, Jason thought hysterically, and he found me lacking!
Jason’s spiraling was stopped by a small, cold hand on his face.
“Daddy, is it—is it that bad to be like me?”
Jason felt Danny’s emotions.
Sad, confused, not enough, wrong, wrong—wrong!
Jason got Danny and held him toward his chest. He sent waves of reassurance to Danny.
“Oh baby, no, I’m sorry. There’s nothing wrong with you. I’m sorry if I made you think I felt that way. It’s just a bit scary to wake up and find out that you’re not fully human. It has nothing to do with what you—what we are. I promise.”
Jason sent out feelings of love and acceptance.
Jason heard the door open, and Jazz came out with Ellie in her arms. Both their eyes were glowing.
(Jason was sure his eyes were glowing, too.)
“Don’t worry, daddy. I’ll teach you how to use your powers. It’ll be great!”
Jason smiled at the little boy in his arms. It was scary, but he had a new connection with his son. He shouldn’t be thinking about what Bruce would think. Fuck him; he lost all rights to Jason and Jason’s family.
Besides, right now, he had better things to think about like how he’ll be able to get a giggling floating Ellie from the ceiling. He wondered what other powers he would develop.
“That’d be great, Danny lad.”
His son smiled, and Jason felt his son’s love surrounding him; he hoped Danny could feel Jason’s, too.
“Wait till you hear yourself chirp the first time,” Jazz yelled from the door.
“Wait, what?!”
____
It may have been years, but Alfred still had his connections to the British secret services. He used those connections to find his grandson.
The pictures he was staring at shocked him a little. A boy with black hair and blue eyes was laughing as Jason (with red hair) chased him. A woman, another red-hair, watched them both amused as she cradled an infant who looked a lot like the little boy.
The other pictures showed the little boy and Jason shopping and walking around a small town. There was one of them leaving a small road. Alfred guessed that was the road that led to where they lived.
Alfred read the paperwork that came with the picture.
Brother and sister (Jasmine “Jazz” and Peter “Jay” Jason Nightingale) raising their children. Daniel “Danny” Nightingale, son of Jay (mother died at childbirth), and Danielle “Ellie” Nightingale. Daughter of Jazz and Roger Burns. The father left before Ellie was born, so both siblings decided to move in together. They both live in a small house in Tadoussac, Canada.
The forgeries are excellent and will hold in any government capacity.
Alfred looked at Jason’s smiling face and then at the little boy’s. He wouldn’t tell the family he found Jason but would keep the photo.
After all, a grandfather deserved to have pictures.
IDK if anyone guessed Alfred, but yeah, here it is
Jason finally came into his powers no more floating Ellie freaking out Jason. Now, he's gonna freak when HE floats lol

Hello! I saw that ur batfam requests were open so I came here to request!
Idea: You were murdered 5 years ago and they wanted vengeance. They'd spend hours on the bat computer trying to find some clues about your killer. Your killer had left many signs at the scene, including a note written on the wall with your blood, "Catch me if you can, batsy".
They found clues that lead to a warehouse in the middle of nowhere. The warehouse seemed to be empty. They were just about to leave until they got attacked by a masked woman. They quickly took her down and took her to the batcave for questions.
Once they got there, they immediately started asking questions. She stayed quite the whole time, she didn't make a squeak. It wasn't long before things got heated and Damian pulled of her mask in a blind rage.
You can probably imagine the shock they felt when they saw you under that mask. You could only look up at them with an evil smirk. "Damn, I guess you caught me" you said in a teasing voice.
That was all, you can choose what happens next if you'd like (or u can leave it at that). Have a good day!
Damsel in distress
fitting, except you’re not…
batfam x fem!reader
warnings: angsty
thank you for the request, i apologize for not getting requests in fast enough, i got writers block :(
enjoy!
It was inevitable. Your death was inevitable. Everyone dies, whether it be from natural causes, or in worse case scenarios—supervillains. Bruce knew one day that he wouldn’t be able to save everyone, but he didn’t know how soon that day would come. It was like a fresh memory, recoiling in the back of his mind. He couldn’t save you, no matter how hard he tried, he failed you, just like he did Jason. The others didn’t know how to take it, they fought so hard to reach you, but once they did, you were gone for good.
Jason was the second to reach the torn down building. He screamed for you, in hopes you would scream back. You never did. The most heartbreaking thing Jason could’ve ever experienced was in front of him. Bruce held your lifeless body, and he couldn’t help but feel nostalgic. Did he cradle him the same way? Did he fall to the ground in utter despair? He made his way closer, watching the way Bruce held your lifeless body as if holding you would bring you back.
Bruce felt the comforting hand of Jason land on his shoulder, as if he were trying to lift the burden off of him. Bruce held you tightly, lifting his head weakly as he stared at the mocking words written right in front of his eyes: ‘Catch me if you can Batsy.’ He felt mocked, as if his own failures were finally catching up with him. Maybe they never should’ve let you gone out that night. So many things he could’ve done to prevent your demise. He failed you, he failed himself.
Years had passed, within those five years since you’d be gone, they were no longer the same. Bruce found out he had a son, and he couldn’t help but feel pained at the thought of you not being there to welcome him. Jason and Bruce no longer kept in touch, if Dick was lucky, he’d reunite the two, only for a mission and no longer. Damian didn’t know you, he didn’t want to—seeing as he didn’t want to get to know the others either, but he was curious without a doubt.
It was a usual night in Gotham, Bruce spending all his time cooped up in the bat cave, as he sent the others out. Damian wouldn’t say it—well he would—but his father was still stuck in the past. It was as if you were the only thing keeping the family together. He found it absurd. So as he returned from his nightly activities he couldn’t help but call his own father out.
“You’re ridiculous father.” He announced, sheathing his sword as he rid of his mask. Bruce turned in his chair to face Damian, who although tried his hardest to look stern and mean, looked adorable. Bruce chuckled a bit, leaning forward to reach the same height as the younger boy. “You wouldn’t understand Damian.” Damian remained blank, hostile as some would describe, his posture challenging as well. “Explain.” He uttered, his arms crossed like a brat.
Bruce scratched his chin in thought, different memories of you scattered around his brain as he tried—although failed miserably—to explain the importance of you. Damian still remained adamant that you were someone who brought weakness upon the family. Allowing them to become weak and vulnerable, but in the back of his mind, he couldn’t help but wished he’d met you once. Shame.
“Y/N, was important because she somehow sought the better in all of us. She cared about us and was tough at times, stubborn even, but she held us together and helped us when we were lost. She died five years ago, today actually.” Bruce’s voice became weak towards the end, Damian wanted to scoff, and he did, causing Bruce’s vulnerable state to become covered with a blank stare. “You would’ve liked her.” He finished off, turning his back to the boy as he continued looking up files and information from the night of your death.
Damian left him alone, the silence of the cave comforting Bruce like a warm hug. It give him the extra boost of energy to continue searching for information. He had clues, yet they remained scattered, prompting him to feel frustrated. You were gone, he knew that, but you deserved justice.
“Bruce, can you come look at this.” Dick yelled with a mouthful of almonds. Bruce decided to let the computer go, hours spent with nothing to help your case. Dick was determined, with the old clues given, he had somehow pinpointed each location clue. Your favorite spot, favorite restaurant, favorite cafe. They knew everything about you, and Dick couldn’t help but resent the person more. As he continued to type away at the computer, a new clue popped up. He faltered, his fingers hovering above the keys as he eyed the location carefully.
“Bruce I,” He cut himself off, a new found determination in his veins as he turned his chair, flinching at the sight of Bruce standing directly behind him. His facade remained cold, gazing curiously at the computer before gazing at Dick. “Let’s go.” Bruce commanded, a new found hope blazing in the two men. Dick stood, sprinting in front of Bruce before he could continue towards what Dick assumed was the bat-mobile.
“Wait we need to think rationally about this, it could be a trap for all we know.” Bruce seemed to be in thought before pushing him to the side. “We either wait, and likely lose the chance of finding our culprit,” He started, hooking his cowl over his sharp features. “Or we go now and get the justice Y/N deserves.” He persisted, causing a determined expression to fall on Dick’s face as he nodded.
Dick walked ahead of Bruce, mounting his bike before slipping his mask on. He turned the bike on, the roar of the bike lively as he revved it a few times. “Bruce,” He called to his retreating figure, Bruce glanced at him from behind his shoulder. “If we’re doing this, Jason deserves to be there too.” Jason, his estranged son who wanted nothing to do with him anymore. “Send him the location.” Bruce muttered, jumping into the bat-mobile before the two sped off into the night.
You shrinked into the shadows, the sound of the lock keeping your refugee hidden, destroyed. A faint smile fell on your lips as you watched Bruce leading the pack, his stone cold facade one you could never forget. It was pin-drop silent, you couldn’t even feel yourself breathing at that point. “Guys I found some papers.” You heard Dick’s voice, voice you’d grown to miss over the years. You shifted in your spot, catching glimpse of Dick as he held the stack out towards Bruce.
Bruce clutched the papers tightly, information about yourself on each and every single sheet. “Look around for any clues.” Bruce grumbled, his head shifting towards where you stood. Your breath hitched, all the hard work you feared would be crumbled if he caught you, but his head immediately turned at the sound of Jason’s voice. “This is a waste of time, I could be doing more important things.” Bruce eyed him shortly before turning back where they came from. Dick continued to scan your items, quickly picking up a device you’d been working on.
“B-man I think we-“ Dick’s statement was cut short as you tackled him from your spot, kicking the device out his hands, watching it slide away. You were alert, but clearly not enough as Jason came from behind you, kicking the back of your leg and knocking you onto your knee. You were quick to stop the knee you almost received to the face, using your arms to block before using your weak leg to sweep Jason down. You bounced backwards, keeping your distance as you eyed each of them.
“Who are you.” Bruce pressed, using his harsh voice as he prepared a batarang. You remained silent, rushing towards the two boys who stood in your way as you took them both on. The only sounds you produced were when they had gotten a hit on you. You’d hiss, or groan, and they felt more determined by then. As you continued to battle it out, you were duped and stunned by Bruce’s smoke bomb, making you cough harshly as you tried to remain alert.
You failed miserably, Bruce used your blindsight to attack you a few times. After his last strike you landed on the floor, blood pooling in your mouth before you spat it out with a glare. As you tried to stand, you were pushed back down by Jason who used his foot to press you down. You winced, eyeing him silently as you assumed he was glaring at you from behind his helmet. You opened your mouth to speak before you were knocked out by Jason who punched you. Hard. Very hard.
When you awoke from your dazed state you were tied down to a chair. You knew where you were, the bat cave, and you knew you were gonna be interrogated. Once you finally gained recognition of everything around you, you groaned, feeling the punch you’d received from Jason. You were gonna get him back for that. As you continued to contemplate, the door across from you opened, and in walked Bruce. He was angry and had every right to be, you were surprised he didn’t attack you in your vulnerable state.
“Who are you?” He asked the same question he had asked you back at the warehouse. You only shrugged, slumping into your chair as you gazed mindlessly elsewhere. He slammed his hands on the table, gaining your attention before sliding over the papers you recognized. “Why do you have Y/N’s files.” You acted confused, looking deep in thought as you bit the inside of your cheek before opening your mouth, “How do you think I murdered her?” You tried your hardest not to laugh as you held your evil facade. It truly was hard.
He eyed you one last time before leaving the room. Every few minutes or so the others would come in, asking various questions only to be answered with fake answers. They knew you were lying, which only made it more fun on your end. As you threw your head backwards the door opened once more, you didn’t look, too tired to deal with whoever it was. However you were shocked by the baby like voice the person produced. “Your a fool who wanted to get caught. Why?”
You lifted your head forward to catch sight of yet another Robin. This one you didn’t know existed. “Wow another one, what type of child labor project is this?” You joked, even producing a laugh at your own joke. “A wannabe assassin, I see you use a sword, a league of assassins sword.” He continued, ignoring your terrible joke as he eyed you sternly. “Congratulations little Robin, but I prefer talking to people above 5’2.” He was slowly starting to become aggravated with your behavior, causing him to unsheathe his sword as he pointed it at your neck.
You smirked, licking your lips as you spoke. “Aren’t you a superhero, superhero’s don’t kill.” You reminded, watching the way his expression never faltered once. “I’m not like my father, I kill if I have to.” Your smirk fell, your mouth slightly open at the revelation. Father. As the two of you continued to stare at one another the door slammed open, the rest of them appearing as Bruce pulled the youngest Robin backwards. “We don’t kill.” He jabbed, making you smirk victoriously.
Your victory didn’t last long, the younger boy pushed Bruce before he used his sword to cut your domino mask, cutting a small portion of your cheek as well. You winced, your head falling forward as the mask fell off in two pieces, You knew there was no use in pretending no longer. You lifted your head, shocked looks appearing on each of their faces as you smirked. Your voice was silky smooth as you talked in a teasing tone.
“Damn, I guess you caught me.”

Jason Todd with a reader who has similar trauma from the Joker? The reader really looks up to him and wants to know how he copes with all of the pain
(I really love your writing, it's hard to find platonic X reader writers out here! 💞)
Jason Todd/Red Hood x reader platonic
Tumblr media
Aww that's and an amazing idea anon and double awwww that means so much to me that you love my writing, I hope you enjoy this one anon :D. word count:1.1K
It's been about a month since Bruce died, but from grief, you, Tim, Dick, Barbara and Jason help continue to keep Gotham City safe as the Gotham knights. But even with this newfound family, there was one bit that Jason continued to struggle with, his past. His death at the hands of the Joker still haunts him to this day, the events replaying in his mind and taking a toll on him. But you always help him see the light when it seems too far away. He was forever grateful to have a friend like you.
But not to Jason's knowledge, you were also affected by the clown prince of crime. When you were only 7 years old, your dad was murdered by him. It was horrifying, to this day you can't think of him without seeing him in your head and also hearing that horrific laugh.
It plagued you no matter where you went, but for the sake of the others especially Jason, you never told them anything, you didn't even tell Bruce before he died.
One night out on patrol, you and Jason were investigating a crime scene that had Harley Quinn written all over it. you thought you could handle it. It was just a crime scene.
"Y/n how's it looking from over there??" Jason asked you as he scanned the footprints to find her.
"I think I got something but I need a bit more time to figure out what chemical it is"
"More than likely it'll be his laughing gas"
Hearing laughing gas sent shivers down your spine, but right now you needed to focus, you needed to find the chemical so you can be able to trace it.
After which you finally detected it.
"Red hood I got it"
"Awesome, your detective work is getting a lot better"
"I could say the same for your less destructive habits" You smirked under the mask.
"Oh come on man that only happened once... Twice"
You snickered as you both got on your bat cycles following the trail back to where it would lead into the abandoned chemical plant where both he and she were born. This night just keeps getting better and better for you.
Grappling into a nearby vent the two then entered inside. Making they're way inside finally. They then find the people Harley has kidnapped.
"Be sharp y/n, she can be very very unpredictable" Jason warned
"G...Got it" You couldn't help but stutter as you continued through the plant.
Now normally Jason would let this slide, but from the tone of your voice and stutter, he knew something was wrong. And come on he's your best friend how could he not see when something is wrong with you. You always looked out for him, when you both head back to the belfry. he was gonna help you.
You both then started to hear scared voices and a cackling giggle from the one and only.
"Play nice boys, or you're gonna meet the same fate as your friends did." She swung her electric mallet just barely touching their faces as a warning.
"You won't get away with this Harley"
"Oh, won't I now ??" She smirked as she began to do shit talk them and tell them her plan.
You and Jason got to the ground as quietly as you could. sneaking to where the kidnapped police officers were. With a nod from Jason, you then lunged at Harley and began to fight her. While she was distracted, Jason then freed the officers and got them out safely and quickly before coming back to you and finishing Harley off.
"You little bat brats !!!"
"It's over Harley, you're going back to Arkham one way or another" Jason cracked his knuckles.
"I'll be sure to put you down 6 feet under and make sure your friend doesn't revive you this time !!!" she cackled as she swung her mallet at you before you quickly dodged it. The cackle triggered you, the memories were flooding back. The sight, the sounds, Him...
Jason saw you were distressed even if you put up a fight, but right now you two needed to finish Harley off quickly. So Jason took out his non-lethal stun bullets and loaded them up, shooting Harley a few times, tasering her to the ground. It was over, Harley's reign of terror was over.
The police came and arrested her, taking her back to Arkham Asylum. You and Jason's job was done. But riding back to the belfry, Jason knew he had to ask you. So once you both settled down, changing into your pyjamas for the night...
"Y/n I need to ask you something, What happened back at the plant ??"
"It's... It's nothing Jason"
He placed a hand on your shoulder gently and turned you around. He wanted to help you.
"I may not be good with this kind of stuff... but you can talk to me. You know that right ??"
You looked down on the floor, you knew what he was talking about. About why you seemed distressed fighting Harley... Your stutter...
"When... When I was 7..."
Jason listened attentively.
"My dad... was murdered, by Joker... All my life... was overshadowed by him. Even one mention of his name triggers me into seeing everything again... How do you do it Jason ??"
"What do you mean ??"
"How do you deal with it... the pain ?? how do you keep yourself in check when hearing his name"
Jason never really thought about it too much, this was the man who killed him, but after that, he never thought much. he does sometimes but not even every mention triggers him. He could see the desperation for an answer in your eyes. Like a lost dog out in the streets.
"Y/n... I know It's hard. believe me, I know, But the way I cope with it is that I have and I don't usually say this in front of the others, an amazing support system. People who guide me when I feel lost, people who pick me up when I fall down. Y/n, you're my best friend, I want to help..."
You couldn't help but feel tears brim as you hugged Jason tightly, the one person out of the entire bat family gets you. He really does, He doesn't hesitate to wrap his arms around you, keeping you safe and secure.
"I'm always here for you y/n, always"
This meant more than you could ever feel. To have someone who could pick you up when you fall down, to guide you into the light when things get tough. It will continue to get tough, But you always had your best friend to back you up.

shadows in the night
battinson!bruce wayne x f!reader
epilogue
summary: more than a year after the events of middle of the night, y/n and Bruce are happily engaged and working to lower the amount of crime in Gotham. However, a new killer calling himself the Riddler has other plans for their happiness…set during the events of the movie, mostly canonical, some changes made to fit the story
a/n: I literally can’t believe this story is over. I started writing MOTN in March this year, and it has been with me ever since. Almost 9 months straight of MOTN and Battinson. I’m so thankful for this story and the community it brought me and how much fun it’s been over the course of these months! I could write an entire essay on what it means to me and about the people this story brought into my life, but I’ll keep it short and sweet for now.
I’d like to note that I kept this short on purpose--it’s just a glimpse into their future, and I didn’t want to bog it down with too many details. However, I do plan on including at least one more oneshot (maybe more).

Every tragedy in his life had led him there, to a home full of love and laughter, even amidst the shadows that came in the night.
The wind on top of the signal tower was unforgiving as Bruce waited next to the spotlight. It was March already, but winter had refused to release its claws from Gotham.
Things in the city had changed, and not all for the good. Not all for the bad, either.
Bella Reál had proven herself time and again to be a more than capable mayor. She thrived in the chaos, in the uncertainty, and had whipped Gotham into shape so quickly it had made Bruce’s head spin. Despite all of the crime, despite how many nights his signal shone in the dark, the new mayor had wrestled control of the city back into the hands of the good.
The trial had started in December as planned, despite the flooding and the wreckage of the city, mostly due to Bella Reál’s firm hand. It had taken weeks, draining them all, but in the end every single man had been convicted on multiple counts and been sent to prison for decades if not the rest of their lives.
For a while, as y/n was forced to relive her trauma on the stand, she had become a shell of herself. She had been withdrawn and quiet throughout the ordeal, the weight of the world holding her down despite Bruce and Alfred and even Gordon doing their best to share her burden. Her nightmares had worsened and Bruce had forced himself to come home earlier and earlier each night simply to be there for her.
But the closer the trial got to its end, the more fiery she became. Her shoulders had straightened and she had thrown herself into rebuilding not only the Gotham Project, but the Renewal Fund as well, and even several other smaller projects that went hand in hand with helping the city.
And she had planned their wedding. She wanted to get it done right, as Bruce had requested, but she also didn’t want to wait.
He was, to put it plainly, in awe of her.
And now, as March started to draw to a close, still wrapped in an unseasonably late winter, their wedding day loomed.
Bruce wasn’t sure what he was more nervous for–the meeting he was about to have with the newly appointed Commissioner Gordon, or the wedding day itself.
He fiddled with a hair tie he kept looped on his utility belt, a habit he had developed in the past year and a half.
It wasn’t too long before the elevator in the tower started rattling its way upwards.
Bruce inhaled sharply and fought against nervously tapping his foot or pacing back and forth. He forced himself into stillness as the doors slid open and Gordon stepped out. The man cursed and burrowed more deeply into his coat.
“Couldn’t we have done this inside?” Gordon called out.
“Light’s warm,” he said softly. It was true–the giant spotlight radiated warmth, more and more the longer it was on. Gordon shivered as he came to a stop next to Bruce. He rubbed his hands together to warm them. Bruce was glad for his own gloves, a newer pair that y/n had made him get that were thicker and lined with fleece. She’d forced him to winter proof his suit, for which he was grateful even if he had grumbled about it at the time.
“Been a while,” Gordon said as they both looked out over the city. It had been a while–things had died down over the past several weeks to the point where the signal was rarely needed. Bruce mostly patrolled on his own and used police scanners to find out where he was needed. “How you been, man?”
Bruce almost frowned. He didn’t realize that they made small talk now. “Fine,” he said.
“Good, good.” Gordon rubbed his hands together again almost absently, then glanced up at Bruce. “So, what have you got for me?”
Bruce couldn’t help shifting slightly from foot to foot. He hoped Gordon didn’t notice. But he was a good detective, a good cop–he likely did notice even if he was pretending otherwise.
Finally, Bruce said, voice gruff and nonchalant, “I have to…step back for a couple of weeks. I wanted you to know, in case you needed me and I didn’t show.”
He’d wavered back and forth, over and over again, between telling Gordon he was leaving and simply disappearing. But he cared for the city too much and had eventually decided that he couldn’t leave without telling someone. Y/n had agreed that Gordon was the best choice–he was trustworthy and likely wouldn’t press for information.
“I figured as much,” Gordon said. Bruce’s eyebrows drew together behind his mask. “Don’t worry about it. I’ll look out for things here, even turn the light on and off and spread some rumors. Make it seem like you’re still around.”
Bruce opened his mouth, then closed it again. “Why?” he said, the only question he could come up with that wouldn’t sound suspicious.
Gordon gave him a sly look then shrugged. “I want you to enjoy your honeymoon.”
The world fell away from Bruce’s feet. How could Gordon possibly know that was Bruce’s reason for leaving? He had no idea who Bruce was. Or at least, he shouldn’t.
“Wh-what?” Bruce said. He silently cursed the stammer in his voice that likely gave it all away. His heart thundered in his ears. Everything went utterly quiet in his mind, every thought wiped out by a wave of pure shock.
Gordon spread his hands innocently. “I’m just saying, man, if you were getting married this weekend and if you were about to go on your honeymoon, I don’t want you worrying about the city. I can take care of things for a couple of weeks.”
Bruce struggled to remain still, to control his breathing, to reign in the panic building in his chest. It was as if he’d just taken a dive over the side of the tower, the world rushing past him as his stomach swooped up towards his throat and his heart pounded with fear and adrenaline.
All the while, Gordon simply stared out at the skyline of Gotham all around them, his breath fogging in front of him as he breathed deeply and evenly.
Bruce silently warred with himself. Did Gordon actually know, or was he guessing? A cold sweat started at his spine and worked its way upwards.
But then he thought back to all the small interactions he’d had with Gordon, especially the ones where y/n had been around. The looks Gordon sometimes gave them, the small comments here and there. Gordon had even joked about y/n being taken and Batman having feelings for her, more than once.
Gordon knew.
Gordon had known for a while.
“How?” Bruce said after a long silence had stretched and warped between them. How did Gordon know, how was he sure, how long ago had he figured it out? That one word encapsulated everything Bruce wanted to ask.
“The gala,” Gordon said, which was the exact opposite answer of what Bruce had anticipated. “Your butler was there. She told the two of you to go home and, well…wasn’t hard to connect the dots after that. Especially with the way you looked at her. You tried to hide it, but…” Gordon chuckled.
Bruce swallowed hard. The roaring had quieted in his ears, but he still felt panicked, unsure. He had always known his feelings for y/n would be what led someone to connect his identity to Batman. “Why didn’t you say anything?”
Gordon finally turned to face him. His expression was light, almost amused. “No offense, but I don’t really care who you are.” He shrugged. “You and me, we have the same goals. We want to keep the city safe. It doesn’t matter to me who you are. It never mattered to me.”
Bruce felt something odd in his chest at the words. He opened and closed his mouth several times.
Gordon had known for a year and a half and had never said anything. Had never cared.
“Like I said, man–enjoy your honeymoon.” Gordon winked, slapped him on the back, and left without another word.
Bruce could only stare after him, utterly stunned.
Finally, when he was so cold it hurt, he flipped off the light and left.
His thoughts churned all the way home. He couldn’t get past it–Gordon had known this whole time. He had never revealed Bruce’s secret, had never even gotten close, not even to Bruce himself.
Another person in his life that he didn’t deserve. Gordon had been a truer friend than he had ever realized.
Bruce changed in the abandoned subway station, shivering from the cold. It was later than he’d thought. He’d been frozen–literally and figuratively–atop the tower for much longer than he’d planned to be.
Upstairs, he found Alfred asleep on the couch, the cat Vinny curled up on his lap. Bruce smiled to himself. The butler always acted like he didn’t like the cat, who was now twice as big and twice as fluffy as he’d been when Selina had dropped him off. But toys always mysteriously showed up for the cat, ones that Bruce certainly hadn’t purchased and y/n swore she hadn’t gotten either.
Bruce quietly turned off the lamp and left them to sleep before turning towards his room.
That last little bit of anxiety finally melted from his chest.
The city was in Gordon’s capable hands. He knew he didn’t have to worry while he was gone. And as an added bonus, he didn’t even have to worry about anyone connecting the absence of Batman with Bruce Wayne’s absence. Gordon had taken care of that, too.
Bruce slid into bed next to y/n and sighed as she immediately curled up close to him.
He couldn’t wait for her to be his wife.
“Stop fidgeting,” Alfred murmured as he fixed Bruce’s bowtie. “You’ve no reason to be nervous.”
Easy for Alfred to say, Bruce thought a bit bitterly. Bruce hated having the spotlight on him. There were so many ways he could mess things up. And he didn’t want to mess a single thing up–he wanted it all to go perfectly.
“It’s y/n,” Alfred said as he smoothed the bowtie into place again. “Just you and her. No one else.”
And somehow, the words worked.
It’s just y/n, Bruce repeated silently to himself. He thought of her smile, her laugh, her warm hand in his, that little furrow between her eyebrows when she was concentrating. His nerves ebbed and settled. They were still present, but they were no longer choking him.
“Alright,” Alfred said as he stepped back. “That’s your cue, my boy.”
“Right,” Bruce said. The music had indeed shifted. He was supposed to go out to the altar. They’d practiced it the night before and everything.
“Now I have to go get the bride,” Alfred said with a wink.
Bruce swallowed and nodded. He made to step away, to go take his place, but Alfred caught him by the arm.
“I know neither of us are much for words,” Alfred said. He swallowed hard. Were those…tears in his eyes? Bruce was suddenly nervous again for a completely different reason. “But I love you like my own. You and y/n both.”
Bruce nodded because the lump in his throat wouldn’t let him speak. “I love you, too,” he finally managed, barely a whisper.
Alfred hugged him quickly, then shoved him none too gently towards the door.
“See you soon,” Alfred said with a watery smile.
And then Bruce was standing in front of the crowd, palms sweating, all alone except for the woman who would be officiating. He saw Gordon in a smart suit, his wife at his side. There were Bryn and Ollie, sitting with Lena and her son. The lone reporter they had invited to document the event with several incredibly thorough contracts. Bruce’s old housekeeper, Dory, whom y/n had replaced when she’d retired. Even Selina was there, dressed in black and sitting near the back. She caught his eye and winked.
It wasn’t really a crowd, only their closest friends and acquaintances. But it felt like hundreds of people to Bruce.
His only stipulation, besides doing the wedding the right way, was to get married in the same church where his parents had gotten married. He’d worried y/n would be disappointed, that it wouldn’t fit with her vision of the wedding, but she’d been enthusiastic about the idea.
His parents and her mother also had seats reserved for them, and he felt their eyes on him more than anyone else’s.
The music shifted again, and every single thought eddied from his mind.
The doors at the end of the aisle opened, and there she was.
His breath caught in his chest.
She was perfect. Her smile was wide and bright and the sight of it was like an arrow slicing through him.
Her eyes met his and the rest of the world faded away.
Emotion swelled, choking him, blurring his vision.
He had never expected to find a love like this, a love like hers, and here she was, moving towards him and looking at him like he had hung the moon.
Distantly, Bruce felt wetness on his cheeks.
But all he could see was her–the woman who was going to be his wife.
As she got closer and closer every last bit of nervousness he’d felt disappeared under her brightness. He was simply an object in her orbit, following her sun, helplessly caught by her gravity. She eclipsed everything else, utterly radiant and so perfect he could never believe she was going to be his.
Belatedly, he fumbled for the handkerchief Alfred had given him that morning. It had been Bruce’s fathers and still bore the initials T.W. He wiped at his eyes only because the tears were blurring the perfect vision of the woman in white before him.
He shoved the handkerchief back in his pocket, eyes never straying from her, and held out his hand as she stepped up to him.
Her hand was warm and fit perfectly in his own.
“Hi,” she whispered with a soft laugh as the officiant told everyone to be seated.
They faced forward and Bruce whispered, “Hi,” back to her, his smile so wide it hurt.
Now that she was close, he took in the small details, the world slowly fading back in at the edges. He was still focused on her, but it was no longer a total eclipse.
Her dress wasn’t quite white–ivory, he was pretty sure they called it, which he only knew from their many conversations about dress shopping–and had a long train. Her veil was long, too, making her look regal beside him, a queen at her coronation. The material of the dress was almost silky, unadorned but not boring. Nestled at his throat were his mother’s pearls, matching the delicate pearls on her veil. His breath caught again at the sight.
Y/n heard the small noise and turned her face to him to smile.
This woman was going to be his wife.
She nudged him gently and with a jolt, he realized that he was supposed to be paying attention to the officiant. But he couldn’t tear his eyes away from the woman at his side for long, stopping every few seconds to look at her in awe.
The ceremony was flying by without him hardly noticing. He vowed to love her, protect her, be beside her always. He vowed that they would never be parted, even in death. He reminded her that she was everything he’d ever wanted, the words choking him on the way out.
He had written the vows in an almost fugue state the night before, the words pouring from him. He meant every single thing he promised.
Then y/n vowed to love him, support him, be with him in all things. She laughed when she repeated that she would protect him and that not even death could part them. He was crying again, but he didn’t care.
They exchanged rings and then–
Then they were pronounced husband and wife.
Bruce kissed her fiercely. She was so warm against him, soft in all the right ways, and he never wanted to let her go. He wouldn’t ever let her go.
There were cheers around them. Y/n was still smiling, her eyes wet.
“My husband,” she murmured for his ears only. Was it his imagination, or did she glow even more brightly as she said the words?
“Mrs. Wayne,” he said back teasingly, enjoying the way her breath hitched at the name. “Extraordinary woman.”
Y/n was finally his wife. She was his, in every way.
He was never letting her go.

superman: lost finale
Tumblr media
tldr: huge L for people who want to see clark reintegrate into his life with people who love and accept him even when he doesn't feel he's 'being' correctly due to his enormous amounts of horrible trauma (me). but also huge W for people who want to look at clark ultimately addressing his trauma by doing something so batshit insane he would never ever inflict on another person but his self standards are so toxic babygirl you are SO fucked up (also me)
short plot recap: at the end of this issue, clark and hope go back in spacetime to the beginning of where he was dumped out of the space trawler's ship, and send past!clark back to earth. then the clark we've been following goes on to help the evacuation for ten years, and then become the time loop clark we saw in issue 7, warning his past self not to try to escape, while the past!clark he and hope sent back goes on to live with lois and be the in-continuity clark we're familiar with.
various disorganized notes upon this:
clois book and clois divorce book at the same time
the book is metacommentary on how editorial will never allow clark to actually have lasting effects from trauma because that's not marketable/palatable to people both inside the dcu and outside
nerds bein like 'ohhh that's not how time travel works' news flash: time travel is not real its a storytelling device. if it serves the author then it's how it works
i. loved lois in this. all throughout. i know some people think she's ooc but she's so angry and compassionate and her concern and drive is what intersects with clark's self sacrificial brain in the end to make his FUCKED UP choice it is just. tickles the brain in a capital T Tragedy way. fatal strengths/fatal flaws chefs kiss
immediately headcanoning Gatekeeper/timeloop clark to eventually become the superman-null of Strange Visitor even though i think he was visually based on Maggin's Ghost of Superman Future from Superman 416 (which, if you like time loops, you should read, and if you dont like time loops you should read anyway because it fucks). let me have this. or, i know that Gatekeeper says he's had this conversation over and over, but i would would also accept if he figures out how to break it eventually and then becomes an iterant space paladin
the hope-is-pregnant jumpscare was. fine whatever 😔 a concession to serialized storytelling demanding cliffhangers. shoutout to parthenogenesis was nice but That Aint How It Works......like That's The Point Of Asexual Reproduction You Don't Need Another Person's DNA.......
this issue was fun to read alongside the current arc of WF since mark waid is also pointing out clark's flaw of impossibly impossibly high standards for himself in the way that main universe clark is so furious and disgusted with kingdom come clark; main universe bruce has never seen him that angry before bc clark's hatred/fury/fear of his own failures is obviously usually internalized
lex's part in this book was so damn good. that egotistical genius delusional psychosexually obsessed loony. especially the bit about the paintings. stop imagining yourself in a naked wrestling match with your enemy. time to listen to les troyens i guess
throughout the whole book the art has just been. incredible. coloring lines inking the whole thing. the stylistic change in 7 was interesting, not my favorite art, but it worked bc they were in a black hole at the time. i got some of the lee weeks variant covers and they're so incredibly good.... but the mainline covers were also wonderful.
slaps roof of superman. this fellow sure can get lost
anyway. if you made it to the end low effort mspaint sillies

The Uno Reverse Adoption Saga 9
AO3 Link: here
First: Chapter 1
Previous: Chapter 8
Current Characters: Jason Todd, Sam Manson, Tucker Foley, Danny Fenton, Jazz Fenton
Summary: Forced to attend a gala by her parents as she is every year, Sam Manson was resigned to suffer through the stifling three-night gala until something pulled at her core. The something turned out to be a someone. Just who is Jason Todd and can the trio gain enough of his trust to help him before his struggling proto-core collapses?
JPGPV = Jazzy-Pants Ghost Proof Vehicle
Warnings: Cursing. Discussion and description of the death picture and the portal incident. And technically someone steals an organ?
👻 {Chapter 9 Below!)
Jason was perturbed.
A lot had happened over the past week or so and it could be summed up as goddamned history coming to haunt him.
His history with the pits, his history with Bruce. History repeating itself in the form of three undead teenagers.
Jason let his head fall and he clutched the glowing camera a little tighter.
He had no doubt the picture he’d found was of something sinister . Honestly, he wasn’t sure how they’d survived something so horrific. Manes’ hand was literally melting . Not to mention the boys…
(Halfa. Half human, half ghost. He had a suspicion and he prayed he was wrong. His nightmares were going to feature screaming kids, dying kids, for a while; he could already tell.)
Why were they in a lab? It had to be intentional. Why else had Phantom been in lab coveralls? Why else would Manes have been documenting it? Were they sent into that tube to test it, whatever it was?
And the green.
He’d know that green anywhere.
History, over and over.
Dramatic irony unfolding.
Squeezing his eyes shut, he wondered if this was what Bruce had felt like, loath as he was to think it. Seeing those kids and knowing they could do better if he steered them right… knowing that they were going to get themselves killed (again?) without him.
He was despairing, he knew, about how unfair it all was. While their situations seemed too similar to be comfortable, their attitudes couldn’t have been more differed than his own. He didn’t see himself in them so much as he saw three versions of Dick. Optimist. Hopeful. Helpful. Unlike his dear older brother though, these kids were utterly alone.
Usually he wasn’t so doubtful. He’d always been a decisive person. Acting with impulse and anger wasn’t the best approach for everything, he knew, but not once had he been called hesitant. It was just that this would be a huge deviation from his norm, not to mention he would have to hide the ghost thing from the others on top of the kids. He’d have to change nearly everything; his schedule, his tactics, his habits, and the list went on.
God damn it. He was lying to himself. He wasn’t still considering it. The minute he offered the gremlins advice in the attic some part of him knew that he’d already decided to take them under his wing until he cleaned up whatever the hell was going on.
He just didn’t want to accept it. How long had he raged at Bruce for taking on young sidekicks? How much of a hypocrite could he be?
Then again, the situation was totally different, what with them having to fear for their safety in a way even he, a crime alley kid, never had to. Gotham was rough, but the dark city would be kinder to them than Amity. Even the government didn’t so much as breathe in Gotham without the damned Bat’s say so.
The problem, overwhelmingly, was that not only did he have no idea who they were as humans, but they seemed to take their haunting of Amity very seriously. Something told him that they would never compromise on defending their city.
He could admire that.
Jason set the camera down on the empty couch next to him.
He could also despise it.
He ignored the part of him that sneered at himself. What could he possibly teach them when he had so thoroughly failed to even keep himself alive?
He wasn’t perfect- hell, nowhere close- but he’d be damned if he let the trio go off on their own unless he was completely, 100% positive they could handle themselves.
Glancing to the clock, he wondered when exactly said trio would appear. They’d hastily promised transport before they’d left but had denied to mention a time. He didn’t know if the waiting was making his apprehension worse.
He was about to go into a whole other dimension.
A canyon that ate people? A dark forest that claimed the lives of any who dared to approach? A series of shifting dunes that would swallow any hapless wanderers whole? All contained on crumbling, floating islands beneath a green sky?
A truce in that hellscape?
It was too surreal to picture.
It was also surreal to think he had a ghost core, but considering the fucking circus that was his life, he shouldn’t have been surprised. He was still vainly hoping that there was some kind of a mistake.
A line appeared in the air.
Jason stared at it.
It grew in size and light, eerie green light, began to spill from the forming cracks. Jason tensed as a bleached begloved hand reached out and then groped around the empty air for a moment before clasping onto the edge of the crack. It flexed and then a familiar head of pale wispy hair stuck through the growing hole that had materialized in the living room.
“Hi,” Phantom grinned toothily.
Parts of the portal’s border crumbled and fell to the floor and the kid grimaced apologetically. “Sorry about that, I’m new to the whole portal thing.”
“It’s fine,” Jason dismissed. He’d gotten worse than portal crumbs in the carpet.
“Well, come on. We have a few hours before we have to be anywhere but I figured you’d want to explore a little first.”
Jason hesitantly approached the giant crack hovering in the air and Phantom offered his hand. Jason wasn’t going to take it initially, but the kid seemed so serious. Hiding  his grin, he took the offered hand and Phantom nodded very solemnly.
It was kinda adorable.
“Ok. We’re going through the zone to Amity, where you can hang out. Then later we’re going to go through either the fruitloop’s portal or the Fenton portal to the zone and meet the yetis. Hang on tight, I don’t think you’ll want to fly on your own here.”
Jason couldn’t fly, but he could grapple just fine. He wasn’t going to let the kid attempt to carry him. But Phantom didn’t try to. Instead, he held onto Jason’s hand and helped him up into the portal.
The first thing he saw, besides Phantom, was an endless expanse of an unnatural green.
It was a world of Lazarus.
Ghouley had said as much, but seeing it was a whole other thing.
And as he looked around at the disembodied doors and isolated islands, Jason knew there was no way a grapple would do anything. Ghouley had made it sound like neighboring islands were a skip and a jump from one another.
Then again, maybe they were when flight was factored in.
“I can’t fly,” Jason admitted. He’d need Phantom’s help to get anywhere.
“Not yet,” Phantom said, eyes twinkling with mirth. He pulled Jason the rest of the way through the portal and it closed behind them. Instead of plummeting to the abyss below they hovered, suspended in the foreign air.
“Anyone can fly in the zone, even humans. It takes some getting used to, but we have time.”
“Not worried about a ghost snatching me up?” Jason snarked.
Phantom hummed. “Not really. Manes and Ghouley are running interference.”
He tugged Jason, who realized the kid was still holding his hand. It didn’t feel like they were moving and Jason had no way to tell if they were.
“So firstly, the Ghost Zone, or the Infinite Realms, isn’t like space. In space there is microgravity because everything naturally produces a tiny amount of gravity. It’s because particles are like that and they have levels of attraction- eh hem. There’s also time in space and there is a connection between the gravitational field and the perception of time and- uh. Anyway, there is no microgravity here unless the object or person is from a living world, and there is no time.”
“Seems simple enough,” Jason said sarcastically. “No gravity and no time. Got it.”
Phantom nodded. “Yes, you have to keep that in mind. And now the fun part, flight!”
It was not fun. Phantom, for all his enthusiasm, was dreadfully awful at giving instructions.
“You gotta feel like you’re moving.”
“Maybe pretend everything is magnets?”
“Have you ever flown? It’s like a weightlessness. Picture that…”
“Think of a line graph.”
“Tilt forward? I mean you don’t have to, it’s more about what you think moving is like.”
He’d pictured soaring through the air, he imagined free falling, he remembered the little moments of weightlessness he’d experienced throughout his life.
Phantom was stupidly earnest with his instructions and relaxed the longer Jason struggled. He even started smirking, the shithead, but at least he didn’t make any comments.
After at least two hours of struggling, he still could not fly (much to his irritation). He couldn’t even vaguely float in the direction he wanted to go. Phantom assured him it was fine, that he’d learn in time.
He would admit, he was pretty pissed he made absolutely no progress. There wasn’t time, the appointment was today . And if he couldn’t move, how the hell was he supposed to escape ghosts?
Phantom hovered, watching him with an unnervingly unblinking stare. “Let’s head to Amity. There’s plenty to do there,” he suggested.
Amity. Fuck, he forgot that’s where the kids were from. They probably had people they were ignoring while he tried and failed to get his ass in gear.
“Sure,” he agreed unhappily. He didn’t want to, not really, but he wasn’t going to make the kids miss out on Christmas.
Phantom blinked slowly, “We don’t have to, you know. We can keep working on flying.”
“I think I’m done with flying for now.”
Phantom’s eyes lit up, literally, and he grabbed Jason’s arm. “Come on,” he said, pulling Jason, “we’ve got to stop by the Nasty Burger. It’s always open.”
“No holiday plans?” he asked carefully.
Phantom shook his head with a sour expression. “Just avoiding my parents.”
“Damn.”
Interesting.
👻 {Boo!)
The ‘fruitloop’ portal was very different from Phantom’s portal. Where Phantom’s portal was more akin to going through a broken mirror the other portal was smooth and the rim was circular… it looked like a boom tube made out of Lazarus waters.
“The fruitloop is very distracted,” Phantom said smugly. “So we’re free to go.”
They slipped through the portal and Jason was met with the visage of a lab.
“Oh shiver me timbers,” Phantom spat not three steps in. “You need to hide- Shulker got away.”
He ushered Jason into a- very menacing- tube shaped pod and shut the side almost all the way before dashing back to the portal. And he wasn’t a moment too soon- a large figure walked through the wall and immediately locked eyes with Phantom.
“Whelp,” the robot with a fiery green mohawk said.
“Shulker,” Phantom returned. He seemed to glow brighter for a moment and then-
Something crashed over him, something cold and ridged and hefty. But… it felt good, even if he didn’t know what it was; it felt refreshing, not unlike a mint.
It felt solid.
It felt strong.
It felt safe.
“Just passing through,” Shulker grumbled, glowing a bit brighter himself.
Beneath the cold was another feeling, something cool and smooth and metallic with sharp edges. Belatedly, Jason realized that the two sets of impressions were from the two ghosts staring each other down.
Phantom squinted distrustfully at the other and then nodded. “It is truce day,” he said.
“Otherwise I’d have your pelt,” Shulker sneered in apparent agreement. He cast an equally suspicious look at Phantom before making his way to and through the fruitloop portal, the feel of sharp metal vanishing with him.
Phantom’s glow paled and the heavy cold vanished immediately. He flew back to the pod and opened the door. “I’m so sorry, I know it can be uncomfortable to be around heavy moods but I needed to make sure Shulker didn’t notice you and would leave,” he grimaced, biting his lip.
“It’s fine,” Jason said, voice more strained than he would have liked. “The moods are…?”
“Oh. Like, uh, ghost auras. But we call them moods.”
That didn’t really explain anything but Phantom was more concerned with getting them out of the lab. He took Jason’s hand again. “Here, I’ll need to hang on to you just a bit longer, okay?” He didn’t wait for a response and the strangest feeling spread over him. Phantom summarily plunged them through the wall. It was disorienting, to say the least.
It made sense because ghosts, but come on .
They went through the wall, down into the floor, then through dirt before finally popping up on a grassy patch outside of the back of a mansion.
“Looks like our ride is here,” Phantom said cheerfully, motioning to a car (if it could be called that) which looked like it wasn’t legal to be on the road. A large acronym, JPGPV, was printed on the side, though it failed to hint at what exactly the vehicle was.
And were those tank treads ?
“Is that safe?” he asked dubiously. He’d been in a lot of vehicles and never had he felt so vaguely threatened by one before.
“Jazz is driving,” replied Phantom. That didn’t explain anything.
They approached the car (if one was being generous) and Jason ended up in the back seat next to Phantom. The driver’s seat was occupied by a young woman, presumably Jazz, who was probably at the tail end of her teens. The passenger’s side had a dark-skinned boy with glasses who was fiddling with a futuristic looking sci-fi gun.
Jason did a double take.
(He almost didn’t recognize the face he’d spent the morning studying without the pained contortions.)
“No trouble?” Jazz asked, looking at Jason through the rearview mirror.
“Nope,” Phantom said, popping the p. He buckled into his seat.
Jazz nodded. “Great. That’s good. Anyway, nice to meet you Jason. I hope the trip wasn’t too bad. The zone can be overwhelming the first few times.”
She started the ignition and began backing out of the mansion’s rear driveway.
From the pointed ears and fangs, he was going to guess she was a meta.
“Nice to meet you too,” he said awkwardly. “And the zone was fine.”
“He can’t fly,” Phantom butted in gleefully.
The kid in front, who had to be Ghouley, snorted.
“Hey, it was his first time! And Danny, human,” Jazz said.
There was a flash as the rings manifested and the messy haired boy Jason had glimpsed the other day sat slouched in the seat next to his.
(This kid might have died, a nauseous part of him whispered. If he was right then this kid had died. He’d died screaming .)
“Sorry, forgot,” Phantom, Danny said.
That was progress.
“Danny, huh?” Jason said.
“He didn’t even introduce himself?” Jazz grumbled. “He’s Danny, or Phantom as I believe he introduced himself as. I’m Jazz, his older sister. And this is Tucker.”
“I’m Ghouley,” Tucker said, never looking up from the little output display on the gun. “Manes- er, Sam, can’t go human with the fear stuff or she’d be here too.”
Danny, Tucker, and Sam from Amity Park. Now he was getting places.
They’d tried to lie about it at first, and now they were being so open about it. He wondered what had changed.
“What you got there?” he asked, motioning to Tucker.
The kid grimaced. “An ecto gun. It’s specialized for tagging anything with a signature and doubles as a tracker. I’m trying to sabotage it but I need some more… stuff.”
Danny perked up. “I can take a crack at it.”
“Mom and Dad’ll be in and out of the lab all day,” Jazz reminded them. “You’ll have to distract them or steal the tools from Vlad’s.”
“Wait, no. I think you still have the emergency ghost tool repair kit from your birthday, right? There has to be a calibrator in there.”
“A calibrator would work but I was thinking of uploading an alternate signature directly to the gun, it would seem more like a mistake on their part…”
The three began chatting about the methods and logistics of sabotaging the gun and while Jason was no slouch, he couldn’t really follow along.
“Why does this gun need to be sabotaged?” he asked during a lull in the conversation. “I’m birthday cake confused.”
The car burst into snickers.
“You tried to curse, didn’t you?” Jazz asked, amusement dripping from every word.
Tucker twisted in his seat to see Jason. “Welcome to Amity, a nice place to live. You can’t curse, can’t say the ‘w’ word, and can’t live without ghost insurance.”
“The ‘w’ word is wish. Don’t say it, there’s a ghost genie named Desiree who grants the ‘w’ word monkey’s paw style,” Danny stage whispered.
“Wait, so I can’t strawberry curse? That’s rocky road!”
He was never letting anyone know about his time in Amity. The things coming out of his mouth were humiliating .
The snickering continued.
He noted that they didn’t answer the question.
👻 {Boo!)
There was something wrong with Amity Park.
He grew up in Gotham, had died, was revived, got trained by assassins, and to this day spent his time running around with a mask to terrorize the city’s criminal underbelly like some kind of bad dream. Gotham had a lot on the daily, had seen a lot in her past, and so in theory he really shouldn’t have found something he wouldn’t have been able to handle.
In theory.
They’d picked up some food from the Nasty Burger before sitting down on a little building overlooking a park. From this one vantage point there was more than enough to force him to reevaluate that theory.
There were floating buildings. What the fuck was that about? Buildings didn’t float, not even the magic ones he’d seen. The sky was tinged green and the soil had purplish tints, not unlike the ghost realms or whatever the hell the Lazarus dimension was called, and there was an ambient lighting that didn’t seem to come from anywhere. And something was off. But… the grass was swaying gently, the sun was shining, and no matter how he looked about, something uncanny and just out of reach mocked him.
He set that aside and continued to observe. It seemed like Jazz wasn’t the only one with mutations- the people he saw at the park had mutations, all of them. Fangs and pointed ears and ash tinged skin, like they were teetering on the edge of oxygen deprivation. Glowing, sometimes flashing eyes. Pointy fingers. It was a city of vampires.
People would walk and flicker, as if they weren’t entirely there. The shadows moved on their own. There were a few cars without drivers. Ghost birds perched next to living ones on the power lines.
Hence his conclusion: There was something wrong with Amity Park.
While at the end of the day he was categorized as a vigilante, he was also a detective.
“Amity is the most haunted place on earth,” Tucker shrugged when he asked what was going on with everything.
“How does haunting equate to all this?” Jason motioned to everything around him.
“In layman’s terms? Ghost juice.”
“Ghost juice,” he repeated flatly before casting his drink an overly suspicious glare.
It had the intended effect when Danny laughed lightly. “It’s everywhere. Food, water, air. Ectoplasm, I mean. It’s seeped into everything, not to mention that this world and the Ghost Zone kinda have joint custody of Amity? Everyone’s liminal at this point.”
Liminal. He’d read that word not too long ago when going over the Anti-Ecto Acts.
“Liminal? As in… ectocontaminated..?”
The whole damned city? That was sobering.
Tucker sighed. “Pretty much. Ectocontaminated… no one calls it that except hunters. Speaking of, I don’t think I need to tell you that if you see the GIW, you need to run.”
“Sure, won’t make me look suspicious or anything.”
“Everyone runs now,” Danny commented morosely. “No one wants to risk being captured.”
Something tightened around his neck, something like a noose. “They just… take people?”
“We break them out,” Tucker supplied easily, like the government kidnapping people wasn’t a big deal. “They’ve never gotten too far. We won’t let them.”
We won’t let them. Firm. Unwavering. A statement that brooked no room for failure.
Fuck, he hoped the kids weren’t in over their heads.
The kids were very obviously in over their heads.
“I can feel the depression from here,” Manes said, phasing up through the roof. Jason couldn’t see her and made a show of looking around like a civilian.
“She’s staying invis. Can’t have Manes Phantom hanging out with Fenton and Foley,” Danny said, taking a bite of his burger.
He tucked away the names for later. “I thought you were Phantom?”
“And I thought you’d grab me something,” grumbled Sam.
Tucker, nose wrinkled, pulled out a burger, partially unwrapped it, and held it aloft as though it had personally slighted him. “One veggie burger,” he said with clear distaste.
Sam snatched it up.
“We’re sorta all Phantom?” shrugged Danny, answering his question. “We’ve got Danny Phantom, Manes Phantom, and Ghouley Phantom. It’s because no one knew our names at first and then we all kinda responded when people called for Phantom, so…”
“That’s not confusing at all,” Jason said dryly.
“We know who people are talking to, unless they don’t know,” Sam said.
Good awareness then, he noted. He’d have to see how much, if any, of that translated to spatial awareness in a fight.
“Huh.”
Yeah, they definitely weren’t going to leave their city. And he couldn’t leave Crime Alley…
He’d propose the idea of sparring later. Nothing fancy, just some hand to hand to gauge how much they knew. Danny could make portals so it wasn’t unreasonable to hope that they could swing by Gotham or that he could pop into Amity for a few lessons.
He didn’t want to mimic the old bat, but it had become commonplace for mentors to do their patrols and cases with their protégés. It was a tried and tested method. Briefly, he contemplated setting something up. He was a known ‘contact’ of Red Hoof after all, but if he let them shadow him on patrol… they could ‘feel’ his core from what Sam had said and he had no clue how to hide it. They’d know he was Red Hood in a heartbeat so… he’d have to tell them who he was.
Red Hood was an anti-hero for a reason. He killed people. He didn’t think what he was doing was wrong, harsh maybe, but justified. Never had he shied away from violence.
Never had he given a psychopath the opportunity to hurt people, over and over again.
How could he tell three half-dead, possibly murdered, kids that he thought killing was okay?
(How many ghosts had he created?)
Yeah, no. He couldn’t tell them. He’d just have to do as regular old Jason. Besides, he wasn’t planning on sticking around for more than a few months anyway. Just however long it took to clear up the acts and whatever was wrong with his ghost side. There was no point in breaking the big identity rule.
Jason shuffled the thought away and went back to his mental notebook. He’d made a lot of progress. Now he had names to investigate and since he was inside Amity, well, a little visit to the public library was in order.
He side eyed the kids. The three were completely silent and the boy’s faces were eerily blank as they stared out over the park.
Hm. Alright.
He had a few things he wanted to do.
1- break into the library. Comb through the newspapers and then hit the computers
2- find out more about the kids. Preferably, who set their deaths up and where it happened
2.5- make sure the kids were competent; if not, give pointers
3- figure out if the lab from the picture was related to the League of Assassins and Ra’s. There was no way that much Lazarus was a coincidence
4- destroy the lab of whoever had the tunnel (again, no one should be messing around with Lazarus waters. No one.)
The list would not be accomplished in one visit but Jason was confident that he’d be able to work through it.
He stuffed the rest of his burger into his mouth, grimacing on the inside. That was his unhealthy treat for the week. Still, Danny had been so excited to swing by the Nasty Burger he couldn’t really say no.
It wasn’t as good as Bat Burger, but it wasn’t as bad as the name might have implied.
Swallowing, he looked at the still frozen kids. They were still occupied with whatever so he took the opportunity to stare a little.
Stemming from the fingers on Danny’s right hand, just barely visible, thin grey lines radiated out like vines.
He had never seen anything like it.
(He’d seen the same pattern glowing in negative, sharp against the halo of white engulfing the boy.)
Jason sighed heavily. He needed to focus.
Step one: get to the library. The lie spilled from him too easily: “Hey. Uh, I figure I’ll wander a bit, you know, see the sights. You kids should go spend time with your families or whatever you do today.”
There was a pause, so slight that it would’ve ordinarily been dismissed. Then, the boy’s faces quickly adopted expressions.
Jason wondered what that was about. He added it to his ever-growing list of ‘weird fucking ghost shit’.
“I don’t celebrate Christmas,” Sam said blithely.
“I wish my parents didn’t,” Danny said miserably.
“You’re always welcome at my place,” Tucker offered. “My cousins are kinda annoying but hey, no ghost traps.”
Danny grimaced and bit a fry in half.
“How about this? It’s already three. Jason can explore till nine. We’ll meet back here and then head to the zone,” Sam strongly suggested.
No one objected.
Six hours was good enough for him.
👻 {Boo!)
The library was laughably easy to break into.
Maybe it wasn’t wise, but with all the flight cancellations, who would expect Jason Todd to be in Amity Park when he’d been spotted less than three hours earlier in Gotham?
He skimmed the layout and made a beeline for the periodicals. Depending on how far back he needed to go he might end up having to break into the archive too.
A green sticky note was slapped on the topmost paper. He was going to ignore it, at first, but something about it grabbed at his attention.
‘ It is not necessary to show others you have changed; the change will be obvious, ’ it read.
Clearly it wasn’t anything important. Maybe the librarian was into scavenger hunts. He put the note aside and out of his mind, turned to the complication of papers, pulled out the first one, and began to read.
👻 {Boo!)
Five hours later Jason still hadn’t gotten to the computers.
The papers were chock full of information. Ever so slowly he made his way backwards, watching as the eldritch city transformed from something inexplicable and alien to a scarred city that held wounded history in every crevice.
The widespread liminality? An ongoing ectoplasm exposure issue that initially stemmed from an outbreak at the local high school three years ago.
The ‘don’t step on people’s shadows’ rule? There were shadow ghosts, notably the Halloween spirit, that you didn’t want to piss off.
The little shrine of new books in the library labeled ‘Do Not Touch’? Tales to entertain a ghost that liked to trap people in fantasy stories and read to the children on occasion.
The dreamcatchers hanging literally everywhere? A peace offering to the ghost god of dreams, or a warding away of the entity, but they prevented him from trapping you in an unwaking slumber in any case.
The frankly bizarre two mailbox system? A set up to prevent the box ghost from tampering with and or stealing packages en-masse.
The greenish sky and purplish soil? After effects of the city being pulled into the mother fucking Lazarus dimension for a whole god damned month.
How the hell had something of this magnitude flown under the radar?
And the kids.
Holy hell he had never been so right yet so wrong before.
They weren’t just in over their heads, they’d been drowning in a tsunami and somehow managing to stay afloat at the same time. And as much as the papers said, there was a whole lot they didn’t say. The sheer number of documented altercations put his number of confrontations to shame and he had no doubt there were plenty of fights the papers didn’t know about. Fights aside, so many pieces were still missing. How had the Phantoms been created in the first place? Had it been intentional? Where had the ghosts been four years ago, five, six, seven? Why only the past few years?
It was like every time he set a timeline for associating with them something cropped up and pushed the deadline back further and further. It was going to be a quick association at first, then a commitment, and then a long-term commitment that just kept getting longer.
He rested his head in his hands and closed his eyes.
It wasn’t so much about his help being good or not, rather that he was going to help at all. They needed any help they could get.
How could he sit here and plan to walk away?
(He was exactly like Bruce, wasn’t he?)
👻 {Boo!)
His despondence dawdled and did not help with his apprehension regarding the yeti visit. Deciding to leave the library early, Jason put everything back where it belonged and removed all traces of his presence before heading back to the rooftop overlooking the park.
He had a lot to chew on.
Around quarter to nine Danny as Phantom flew up to him, glowing in the dimming world around them.
“Hey Jason! How did the exploring go?” he greeted cheerfully.
Jason quirked a brow. “Well enough. You seem to be in a better mood.”
“Yeah,” he agreed. “So here’s the plan. We’re going to be going through the Fenton portal and then heading to the Great Star Bridge Sera- er, it’s basically a mansion. Super pretentious name, if you ask me.”
Jason couldn’t help but wonder why it had to be there. He didn’t really like the idea of going to a mansion but didn’t bother to say anything about it.
“Alright, let’s get going. Are Manes and Ghouley…?”
“They’re at the portal.”
Danny then took his arm, turning them invisible and flying up and towards some unknown place.
Flying like this was different. It should’ve been impossible, supporting his weight just with one arm. It was as though Danny had turned gravity off for just the two of them.
Their destination became apparent as they approached a building with a giant glowing sign labeled ‘Fenton Works’ alongside an arrow oh so helpfully pointing down to the building they were perched upon. He’d read about them in the papers.
He could only imagine the portal was nearby.
Jazz had made it sound like she, and possibly the trio, frequented the other dimension. One of the newspapers had an interview with a ghost named Kitty, who claimed that the Phantoms took wayward ghosts back to the zone. It wasn’t unreasonable, given the amount of ghost fights he’d read about, that the Phantoms spent solid chunks of time in both dimensions. Jason didn’t like the idea of having to sneak by people who hunted him to get home every day on top of all the regular vigilante crap. It was exhausting for him and it could only have been the same for them.
The kids probably had been caught off guard before, trying to pass through.
How badly had they suffered?
“Nervous?” Danny asked, slowing to a stop.
Maybe he was wrong. Maybe it hadn’t happened. Maybe they were still…
“Are- did you die?” Jason asked in a rush. Immediately, he wanted to take the words and stuff them back in his mouth.
Danny was quiet for a moment. “Why?”
Scrambling for an answer, he meekly offered a thought that had occurred to him yesterday on patrol.
“I mean- are they gonna ask me about my…?”
Would he have to explain his own demise?
He would if he had to, in the barest sense, but it wasn’t information he was going to volunteer.
“Ok. So, don’t do that. Ever,” Danny gently admonished. “Real quick lesson in ghost manners. You don’t ask about death. It’s a sensitive topic among ghosts. And to answer your question, yes, I did die. I can’t say what the yetis will ask but one of us will be right there at all times, okay?”
Danny, even as Phantom, was dwarfed by Jason. He was sure that he could punt the kid pretty far, so small he was, and he still had baby fat clinging to his cheeks.
Would he ever get to grow up?
Or had that been ripped away from him?
Jason cleared his throat. “Right.”
Danny took them down to the street right in front of Fenton Works and then phased them through the floor and into a stairwell.
“Ready?” he asked.
Manes poked her head out of a doorframe at the bottom of the stairs.
“As I’ll ever be,” replied Jason.
Danny floated them down the stairs and through the doorway. Tucker was inside with Sam and they split with Sam taking point and Tucker covering the rear.
The wall of the lab they directed to was shockingly familiar. If one took out the blast doors and the active portal, the setup was identical to that of the picture.
Danny confirmed he had died.
Sam had referred to the boys as Fenton and Foley earlier. It didn’t matter that he didn’t know which was which; one of them was Fenton, and that was enough information.
With sick horror, it dawned on him that one of the boys’ families owned this lab. One of their families hunted ghosts. One of their families hated the Phantoms. One of their families had killed them.
The Fentons had killed their own child and his two friends.
They had died right here , in this very portal.
Why the hell were they here?
“Jason? Is something wrong?”
“No,” he said shortly.
What were the kids playing at?
The three seemed to silently agree on something.
“Jason,” Tucker said, putting a hand on his shoulder, “we’ll be with you, alright? If something’s up we can handle it. We can help.”
“How can you be here?” he asked a little desperately. “This is-”
He couldn’t even think about the warehouse.
Danny hugged him slowly, and then Sam, and then Tucker joined them.
It didn’t matter that they were pressed up so close he could feel their bones digging into his body because there wasn’t a single pulse among them.
The kids had died.
“You saw that picture, didn’t you?” Tucker said lowly. Jason didn’t deny it.
“It’s mildly uncomfortable but we had to deal with it pretty early on,” Sam explained. “We’re largely used to it by now.”
Anger that had been silently simmering began to boil.
“You had to deal with it?” he repeated shrilly.
Of course, he thought bitterly. If the Fentons had killed the kids, likely with the intention of collecting their ghosts for some fucked up study, then the trio would’ve been forced into the lab at one, or several, points. But why come back at all?
The portal they died in. It was one of the only stable portals. They’d have to deal with it if they wanted to use the portal to herd the ghosts out of Amity.
Unwilling to dislodge the kids and possibly hurt them, he couldn’t move. Not with all three pairs of arms wrapped around him. But goddamn it, he was tempted to break something.
“… it’s not that bad. We’re fine. We’re not going to make you confront your death, alright?” Danny said.
“ My death? What about yours? This is cookies and cream awful. Who the hell made you deal with it? Chocolate Raspberry. Who ?”
“We did because it was the right thing to do. It’s a story for another time, okay?” Sam said a little desperately.
Danny lifted one arm and wrapped it around Sam.
Tucker pressed his head against Jason’s shoulder. “Jason. I know this kinda sucks but there’s nothing you can do. It’s in the past now.”
They had given up on themselves.
It was all too common with heroes, wasn’t it? To save everyone else? But what about them?
Oh, how he wanted to rage.
But he couldn’t.
Keep it together for the kids, he scolded himself. He made progress. He had the lab. He discovered that the Lazarus water thing was actually the Fenton portal. He found out more about the kids.
He made progress.
Inhaling quietly, he focused on the oscillating edges of the portal, moving in and out in a mockery of breathing.
His breath hitched.
The kids weren’t breathing . Their chests were still, their diaphragms didn’t move and never would again, up and down, in and out. Their lungs-
- were vibrating?
The pure confusion overrode everything for a moment. The kids were vibrating. And there was a sound quite similar to purring, though it felt as though it reached all the way down into his soul.
“… are you kids purring at me?”
“No,” Danny said, continuing to purr.
“Is it working?” grinned Sam.
“We’re ghosts, not cats,” Tucker scoffed.
“We could be engines.”
Danny groaned and thunked his head against Jason’s arm. “One time.”
“One time’s all it takes,” snickered Tucker.
“Danny overshadowed a car once,” Sam explained. “But he wasn’t really, he was in the engine and didn’t realize it. He was stuck as a car for almost a full day.”
“It was an anti-ghost vehicle too, mind you,” Tucker added.
“Stooop,” Danny complained.
“It was his sister’s car.”
“Guys, I’m already half dead, please don’t kill me the rest of the way.”
“Jazz-”
Danny reached past Jason’s head to presumably clamp a hand over Tucker’s mouth. “Okay! That’s enough for today! We’re going to be late!”
👻 {Boo!)
Jason avoided the manor.
That wasn’t atypical, not really, but missing his phone call to Alfred was. Especially on a holiday; especially on Christmas.
He wasn’t at his official residence, nor his unofficial one, and so the only thing to do was to go through his safe houses. Easy enough. If there was one good thing about the whole mess with Dr. Crane, it was that they had more time now that their civilian identities were “hospitalized”.
One of the safe houses, located in an old apartment, showed signs of Jason being there recently. Why hadn’t he gone back to his actual apartment?
There were no real clues- nothing to hint at his home being compromised, nothing to indicate why he’d come to this particular apartment. The perishable food indicated Jason was residing here now, and had been for a few days as his suit from the gala was here, as was an assortment of gear Jason never left behind. Among them were his prized handguns.
So why were they here when Jason wasn’t?
There was only one other thing out of place. One clue that might lead to an answer instead of more questions.
Laying on the couch was an odd camera. It didn’t look like the kind of camera someone could buy at a store, no matter how high end. Some of the parts were standard, others looked custom, and none of them looked over a day old. Someone took good care of this camera, and if there was something he knew, it was cameras.
Jason had never been interested in photography and there was no way he knew how to care for a camera. So, to whom did it belong?
Well, if he left it here he’d never get answers. Jason might be bitchy for a while but the answers would be worth it. Besides, he’d get it back. Eventually.
Red Robin picked the strange camera up, tucked it into one of the dozen pockets on his person, and left the apartment.

MY TOP 5 FAVOURITE BATFAM FICS (on ao3) !
Tap by CKBookish
Bruce returns home from the time stream, haunted by phantoms and dreams. Dreams of a past that can't be real.
But all of that wouldn't be so bad if his home didn't feel so empty in the absence of one of his children. Jason, refuses to talk to him or even answer his calls and Bruce can't figure out why or what he did wrong, not after they had mended their fences before his disappearance.
Meanwhile,
Catherine struggles to hold it together for her and Jason as life falls apart around them. When all she has to give is love she does her best to give it all.
MY NOTES: one of my all time favourite not-exactly-time-travel time travel fics! features some wonderful character building and complicated relationships, and the plot itself is just incredibly. the way everyone is written is definitely realistic to how i would imagine them personally (especially dick).
A Good Place by LemonadeGarden
Damian Wayne is kidnapped and sent back years through time. Together, he and Father – who's only been Batman for a mere six months –must figure out how to return him to his own time.
Over the course of the next week, Damian discovers that Mexican gangsters do not mess around, that social workers find Bruce annoying, that Bruce might be a little messed up, and that crystal chandeliers create the fondest memories.
Oh. And Alfred has hair.
MY NOTES: not only is this one of my top favourite time travel fics, it is also one of my favourite bruce and damian fics. it is so witty and fun, but also hurts immensely. fics where the kids are forced to endure young bruce's ridiculousness is always a treat, and here it is infinitely more amusing because it's damian finding his father entirely silly.
Modus Tollens by fanfictiongreenirises
Dick is cursed to kill anyone he touches.
MY NOTES: this one is fantastic. really gut wrenching throughout and you really feel for dick when it gets tough, but the sweet ending makes up for all the pain. dick loves his family and his family loves him immensely.
I Used to Be an Adventurer Like You, Then I Took an Arrow to the Knee by audreycritter
Stephanie was just on patrol and now she’s stuck somewhere, sometime, with Bruce.
They bleed and bond and mostly try to keep each other alive— you know, just a Tuesday.
MY NOTES: don't mind me casually recommending just the best bruce and stephanie fic to ever be written. it is unhealthy how many times i have read this one. and it is time travel! this is my dream come true. it also features one of my most favourite studies on bruce and stephanie and what they represent to each other.
Keep Your Head, Your Backbone and Your Heart by MrMich
The last thing that Duke expected on what was supposed to be just a regular patrol was being suddenly thrown five years into the past, coming face to face with a darker, more violent Batman than the one he knew, a broken family, and a Tim who was a foot shorter than Duke, and not even Robin yet.
MY NOTES: there was a moment in time where i briefly made this fic my entire personality with how much i spoke about it. dare i say one of the best duke thomas centric fics and ITS TIME TRAVEL! it is so great. i have noticed that you rarely see tim as robin in time travel fics, and he is so lovely in this, especially his dynamic with duke. as always, young bruce is ridiculous, but how duke navigates through it all is so important to me.
OKAY i will stop here as i frantically try to shove the remaining 495 fics back into my metaphorical ao3 closet. i hope u like these anon! <3 also if you haven't already, check out all these authors other works too! they are all fantastic !!

Batman Prompt 8 - New Dad / 2.3 - Young Bruce
Bruce adopted Dick when he was young, if he were his actual kid Bruce would have been a child or a young teen when Dick was born.
*Dick can either be adopted or Bruce's ward, but I feel like adopted would fit better.
Bruce was in his early 20's (20-24) when he got 9-year-old Richard 'Dick' Grayson.
I have always imagined that Bruce impulsively decided to adopt Dick without consulting anyone. He saw his parents die and got hit with that good ol PTSD, and how that probably affected Dick in a similar way it did him. Also, the fact that the kid got sent to juvie instead of an orphanage because of "it being too full," and him getting beaten there.
Bruce doesn't regret adopting Dick, but he wished that he would have thought about it more before making that decision. Don't get me wrong the outcome would have been the same either way. He doesn't have anything prepared for his arrival at the manor. Alfred is "magical" and always cleans the whole Manor, so a clean room won't be a problem, and there are clothes from Bruce's childhood that he can wear.
So what is the problem?
The problem is that Bruce did not tell Alfred; he is the type of man who would like to be prepared for things. Bruce is the same way, so I don't know why he wouldn't tell Alfred! But just like Bruce, Alfred is one to come up with things on the spot.
Bruce is having a hard time getting Dick to be comfortable with him. He seems a bit better with Alfred though, which does NOT hurt Bruce's feelings. Alfred suggests showing that he is vulnerable too, not just to tell, but to SHOW that he trusts and loves him.
*He connects with Dick about both their parents dying, but I feel like they need something other than that for them to become family.
Bruce lets a curious Dick to draw on his scars.
I can imagine it so well. Bruce lets Dick pick from an assortment of markers, hoping that he will choose the washable ones, but he does not, he goes straight for the permit Sharpies because he knew for sure that those were the permanent ones.
Tiny, small Dick thought it was kind of weird for Bruce to suggest this, but once he started he got into it; he was moving all around to get to different spots. Dick does not draw on his face even though he really wanted to.
By the end, Alfred had taken many pictures and it was past time for bed; Dick was very tired from making his "Great Masterpiece," so Bruce went to put him to bed.
This was the day that started "Dick Grayson has the best/warmest hugs!"
Bruce was the first one to experience it, and he definitely holds it over the rest of the Batfamily's heads. (He is very happy he was the first)
