A Farewell to Unicorns...
If you have been following me long enough, you probably know that about a year ago I have started a crazy cross-stitch project, see post here . I have posted updates here n there throughout 2023 with the tag #ladyandtheunicornproject . As every crafter & artist would know, when you embark on such a journey, it keeps lingering in the back of your mind every damn day that you don't work on it. I didn't touch it in months, then I finally found the energy to get back to it. This is the progress I made in a year, a little shy of 1.5 pages out of a 60-page pattern:
Tumblr media
It just felt hopeless, the amount of confetti in this pattern is insane. And most of the time, it didn't even look like it made much difference. Then it kinda dawned on me; is this pattern the product of a pattern mill?
What it is a "pattern mill" you might ask... Some cross-stitch pattern shops on etsy simply use photos of artwork and convert them to cross-stitch patterns using free websites. They don't credit the artist, they don't pay a dime for the software, yet they profit from their work. The end result usually does not translate well to cross-stitch; lots of confetti, the project is unmanageable, kills the joy of crafting and when you're finished, it looks like a pixelated photo taken with an early 2000s phone camera.
After further research, I was convinced that my pattern is also from a pattern mill - considering the amount of money I spent on this project, it felt like a punch in the gut. My family will never have generational wealth & afford a vacation home on Rhode Island coast because of this fucking project! But hey, c'est la vie! You live and you learn... See related posts here & here
Tumblr media
Sometimes, you just gotta know when to say "enough of this bullshit", cut your losses and walk away from a situation. For that reason, there's no point in working on this project anymore and making it my "Sagrada de Familia". So, I came up with an idea to finish it in an alternative way:
Tumblr media
"Unfinished paintings are more admired than the finished because the artist's actual thoughts are left visible." This is a quote from Gaius Plinius Caecilius Secundus, some important guy who lived during the Ancient Roman times. I think it is a fitting quote because it represents my vision of saying "fuck this" and not having the fallacy of the sunk costs. Finished it, framed it and now displaying it in my library room in front of another tapestry from the Unicorn series.
Tumblr media
It gives me closure rather than disappointment for a project that I started with such high hopes & excitement. If I just put it in a bag and threw it to the bottom of a closet, it'd make me feel guilty. But this still makes me feel accomplished, because it honors the hours of effort I put into it. It turned into a nice little conversation piece with a story. I still love cross-stitching and will work on better patterns in the future. There's already enough to dread about in life. Unfortunate experiences shouldn't take the joy out of pleasant activities!

Gooliope Jellington: Sweet Screams Edition (October 2022)

Base Doll: Gooliope Jellington (Monster High G1)
Clothing Pattern: https://www.etsy.com/listing/265925128/carrolls-muse-dress-sewing-pattern-pdf?click_key=eb0f8b19429e89cab0b606c33a3316fc28733c91%3A265925128&click_sum=be6105e4&ref=shop_home_active_6

Caramel Popcorn:
Gooliope is one of my favorite Monster High characters, and Sweet Screams is one of my favorite lines. So it should come as no surprise that when a collab group opened up for redesigning the MH characters to fit your style, I was excited to partake! This is my first time working with a 17 inch doll, and it posed an interesting challenge! I gotta say, I loved working on a bigger face! I have another Gooliope, Draculaura, and Maddie Hatter of this size in my stock, to hopefully one day we'll do a project this large again. The trick is, it's gotta be a doll I'll want to have out all the time, since they're hard to store. So far this is the case for this one, she's so pretty, I don't see myself storing her too often. XD
My vision for this project was to deck her out in carnival sweet treats. Gooliope is a circus ghoul after all, so it stands to reason that those would be up her alley. I went with pink and blue on her hair and the ribbon details to represent cotton candy, there are buttons made of polymer clay that look like lollipops, and while it's hard to see, her heels are candy apples. She's decked out with a bunch of fabric paint to hold on the sprinkles and look like dripping icing, and then you have my favorite detail, the headband. You can't have a carnival without funnel cake, and adding a little chocolate ripple to it? And sprinkles? Oh man, -chef's kiss- perfection. The sprinkles were honestly a highlight for me. I normally don't use pieces from other crafters in my work, but when I wanted to add caramel corn to her apron (my other favorite piece next to the face), I figured hey, why not? Also, it's hard to see, but I added a bit of a color shifting glaze on her eyes before glossing them, and it's super pretty in person. Gosh, it is hard not to stare at her, I love her SO MUCH.

Hey IRS… as a small business owner i say… 🖕🫵🖕🫵🖕🫵🖕🫵🖕🫵 2020 forced people to tap into their artistic temperament and brought out the creative genius in people. Some of the GREATEST CRAFTERS, young and old, started anew, and this is the path we’ve chosen. when i order stuff from etsy i always try to find a small shop that’s had under ten orders to buy from because i know the struggle 😔✊
and hey yknow what. more people should make an effort to do this. monetarily supporting small businesses and artists and crafters is important of course but also selling something you made feels incomparably amazing and we should all try to pass that on tbh. like for real when you buy something from a small artist on etsy or at a craft fair or whatever you have quite possibly made their month. i know it always makes mine

How to Make Stickers with Cricut for New Year 2024?
Hey crafters! Do you want to learn how to make stickers with Cricut for New Year’s Eve? If yes, don’t worry! I am here to help you with that. The new year is arriving soon, and I have already created many stickers to decorate my personal journal or books. So, in this blog, I will be talking about the fun and unique stickers that you can easily make with the machine, which offers thePrint Then Cut feature.
While making stickers with Cricut, I used some essential supplies required to make these stickers. You must ensure these supplies first then; we will move to learn the step-by-step procedure to make professional stickers.
So, are you excited to delve into this journey with me? If yes, then set up your cutting machine with your Design Space, and let’s jump into it!
What Supplies Do I Need to Make Stickers?
Anyone who is here to learn how to make stickers with Cricut also needs to have essential supplies. However, when I made the stickers for the new year, I used the following supplies or items:
Cricut Maker or Explore Air 2
In this guide, I am using Maker 3. However, you can use any latest version of the cutting machine.
Note: Cricut Joy doesn’t feature the Print Then Cut feature, but the Explore and Maker series are greatly compatible with this feature.
Design Space
Design Space is a must-have app without which you won’t be able to make a single cut, so if you have just bought a machine and haven’t set it up yet, first try finishing the setup.
Sticker Sheet Image File
A sticker sheet image file is the most important supply if you want to create a sticker. However, you can get such files from well-known websites such as Etsy, Creative Market, and Creative Fabrice.
Inkjet printer
Since I have used the Print Then Cut feature for making a sticker, I will recommend you get a Canon PIXMA TS9521C. It works well for paper as it comes with a unique feature, i.e., 12” x 12” borderless printing.
Sticker paper
When I am making my own stickers with a cutting machine, I try to shop for a matte white, printable sticker paper that is compatible with my inkjet printers. In addition, I found the printable sticker paper, which offers great quality.
Also, the thickness is more than other brands of sticker paper. Thus, Cricut brand sticker paper is always a good option.

How to Make Stickers with Cricut?
So, are you ready to make your own stickers with the Print Then Cut feature? Let’s start and follow the below instructions carefully.
Step1: Creating an Image File
Tumblr media
Here, you have two options: create your own sticker sheet image or download the ready-made sticker sheet. If you want to create your image, then you can use tools such as Procreate, Illustrator, or Design Space.
Step 2: Uploading the Sticker File
Tumblr media
First of all, launch a Design Space on your computer and start creating a new project.
After that, hit the Upload button given on the main canvas.
Then, select the main file and click the Upload Image to import the sticker design.
If prompted to select an image type, choose Complex image.
On the next screen, hit the Save as a Print Then Cut Image option.
Lastly, press the Insert Image tab to get the image on your canvas.
Step 3: Printing the Picture
Tumblr media
Once you have imported the image on Canvas, you can edit the size as per your requirements.
In case the image is too large, resize it up to the maximum size that easily fits the printable area, which measures 6.75″ by 9.25″. Afterward, follow the steps below:
Next, load your sticker paper into the inkjet printer. However, I have loaded the sticker paper facing up. So double-check, as your printer might be different.
Now, click on the Make It tab on the Cricut Design Space app.
Then, tap on Continue, and finally, Send to Printer.
Finally, print to get the printed sticker design.
Step 4: Material Settings
Tumblr media
Now, return to your Design Space and choose your materials.Go to the material settings and select “Sticker Paper.”
Note: if you are using an Explore machine, then you should set the dial to Custom to find this option.
Step 5: Loading the Cutting Mat
Tumblr media
Now, please take out your Light Grip blue mat and place your printed sticker paper onto it. Make sure your sticker paper is aligned to the upper left corner. You can also smoothen the paper using a brayer tool or your hand. Finally, you need to press the flashing arrow button on the Cricut machine to load the mat.
Step 6: Cutting the Stickers
Tumblr media
After loading the mat along with sticker paper, you will notice the Cricut icon button is flashing. It means your machine is ready to cut, so press the C button to start the cut. After some scanning, your machine will finally start cutting out the stickers.
Tumblr media
Finally, I have explained to you how to make stickers with Cricut. Now, enjoy your New Year’s with these beautiful stickers that you can use to personalize your laptop or other stuff.
Conclusion
Finally, I have explained to you how to make stickers with Cricut, along with the important supplies. In addition, I have used the Print-Then-Cut feature, which requires you to print your design first and then cut it on a cutting machine. In addition to the feature, the printer is a must for printing the design. Despite this, you can download the sticker from the internet or create your own using tools like Canva, illustrator, Design Space, etc. Thus, this blog will help you create your personalized stickers for New Year’s Eve.

FAQs
Question 1: What do I need to make stickers with Cricut on New Year 2024?

Question 2: Which Cricut machines are best for New Year stickers?
Answer: I suggest you use Explore 3 and Maker 3 if you want to make stickers for the new year 2024. Both Explore 3 and Maker 3 machines come with the Print then Cut feature, which is an incredible feature for printing images using the printer. Afterward, you can cut the printed images using your cutting machine. In addition, this feature is popular and is widely used for making stickers. Thus, the Explore and Maker series are compatible with your stickers.

Hey everyone, I’m currently trying to get as many people together on this as possible.
Basically what I’m doing is I’m going to be giving a percentage of my Etsy shop’s proceeds from January to a trafficking prevention organization, and if anyone wants to join in, please let me know!
Even if you aren’t a crafter or aren’t able to donate and just want to help spread the word and raise awareness, that’s great too!
If you want to take part, DM me for more information or if you have any questions. Please consider joining in as this is an increasingly important topic that often gets overlooked.
Please share with anyone you think might be interested. (Don’t know how touchy this subject is here so reblogging is the only way this is probably going to get seen)

Hey! I’m Briar, the solo crafter behind Ethereal Hive Crafts.
This year has been rough on small businesses of all kinds. If you’re into fandoms at all, even if it’s something I haven’t made yet, consider checking out my shop.
I make my soaps using the best supplies I can from suppliers that follow pay a living wage or better, use eco-friendly and completely biodegradable supplies (including the glitter!), and I love using complex scents! So you’re going to get a bright, fun, easy to hold bar of soap that smells great. I’ve spent a lot of time carefully building colors and scents to different characters! (And, sometimes, I even update designs to match characters better!) Please check out the full array of what I have over at http://etherealhive.com for the widest variety and discounted bundles! (Or if you prefer to use etsy, I do have that.) I’m even able to ship internationally!
Not into soaps? That’s okay! I’ve branched off into other things, like perfumes, lotion bars, and even newer...bath bombs! If you do go check out my website, please have this coupon to get a little surprise discount at checkout: thankyou Sincerely. Thank you!

~~~ANNOUNCEMENT~~~
Hey y’all! I’m proud to officially announce the grand opening of my Etsy shop, Frame and Fortune Craft today, 9/15/20!!!!
Hopefully you, like me, get tired of the same white, black, gold, silver, basic wood frames on your walls and tabletops. But perhaps you don’t want a giant, super ornate frame either. Hey, wall space is precious. Or perhaps you want a frame with a theme that matches your latest stitching project. Or maybe a gift for those who are into crafty, fandom, witchy, nerdy stuff. Well good news y’all, I got your back!
Frame and Fortune Craft picture frames are handmade by me to order using papercraft and decoupage, then sealed for a high-quality durable finish. Almost endlessly customizable, all of my frames come in 4x6, 5x7, and 8x10.
Want a frame in a different size or a design that you don’t see? No problem! I’m thrilled to take custom orders! And I’m always available and happy to answer any questions through my Etsy store.
Please help a fellow artist and crafter out, take a look at my page, and if you like it then share with your friends who may also like it.
Thank You!
~Lizzie
Hey! Quick ask for any crafters who sell things, DA or otherwise. Could you possibly throw me any advice you may have on selling your craft (specifically crochet, cross stitch ect) and how market places work? My friends and I are looking to set up a Crafters Guild (@yeoldcraftersguild on instagram) for selling our wares on etsy and such and I'd really appreciate any help you could offer some amateurs.
My dm's are always open as well as my asks if you feel like you can offer up some wisdom to us younger crafters.
On another note, apologies for not creating much content everyone! I've been enjoying just reblogging DA art and memes from those I follow and so I hope that you like them as much as I. Sending lots of love during this time and hope that you're doing well ❤️
Hey everyone! I’ve recently gotten into doing stock illustration, and it’s been really fun! After mulling over it a bit, I decided to sell some of my clip art sheets on Etsy for my fellow crafters to use. And I have a few sheets here made for autumn and Halloween!
You can get high-res, transparent PNG versions of these sheets here! You can use them for crafting, scrapbooking, graphic design, decoration, etc. The only thing I ask is that you do not claim these as your work, nor sell them as your own stock images. Thank you!
Hey Folks
If you have a favorite Etsy shop run by queer and/or POC folks, I would love it if you would send me a link!
I want to put more effort into supporting fellow crafters, as well as build a sort’ve personal database so that I can recommend shops to people looking for specific products.
Hey y’all, do all the artists and small crafters in your life a favor:
Ask about customizations BEFORE you place an order. Billing your customizations separately means that whatever platform we’re on double-dips on listing/transaction fees, so you pay the same amount but we make less.  Example: Jane buys a patch that normally comes in a single color, and asks if I can do it in rainbow pride colors in the order notes. Sure, I can do that, but it would normally cost a couple bucks more, because that means I have to make a new stitch file, and it takes more time at the machine. If she’d asked me about that before ordering, I would have made a custom item with that.
On Shopify, an extra transaction for $2 costs the transaction fee of 2.5% to 3% + $.29... so having to make it a separate transaction means we lose most of that difference. Same thing with Etsy.
