The Devil only Wants to be a Detective!

A Scarlet trio and 3/4 gumi fancomic

Synopsis

Kudou Shinichi, now more familiarly known as Edogawa Conan, has a HUGE secret that only his family knows. And no, it’s not about his shrunken demise at the hands of the Black Organization this time!

Since ancient times, the Kudou Family has lived as the only proof of the Devil clan ever existing. Though people have long forgotten about it, the family itself has not. The last devil from their family is Kudou Yusaku, and now that Shinichi is nearing his ‘Trial’, Yusaku and Yukiko have high expectations that Shinichi will be a powerful devil.

Well the problem is, when a devil is born, they have to overcome a ‘Trial’ before becoming a full-fledged devil. The Trial itself is tasked when one is deemed strong enough by Fate to carry its burden, but it was almost impossible to guess what you'll be tasked with. His great-grandfather has to build the current Kudou mansion that contains a secret underground facility, while his father was told to abandon becoming a police detective and write a mystery novel about thieves instead. When looking at it like this, how does one expect he'll be great when Shinichi himself can't predict what Trial he would get? Some Fate indeed…

That’s why Shinichi tried to avoid it. He wanted to be a detective like Holmes! Not some devil! And then suddenly his Trial appeared out of nowhere. Apparently, becoming Conan is his Trial, and he also has to capture the Black Organization in a year's time?! How?!

Joy of joys! It's the Where Can I Read the Dethkomic?! Master Post!

Hello and welcome to all the new and returning Metalocalypse fans here on Tumblr. Been quite a pile of excitement in the MTL fandom, lately, and I understand some of you have interest in reading my as-of-now 2 volume, ongoing, action/adventure/drama Metalocalypse fancomic. In order to make it easy on you all (and me, who has been providing links like crazy on an individual basis for more than a hot minute, hehe) I have compiled the following for ease-of reading!

What is Dethkomic? As it (kinda) says on @dethkomic's very own Tumblr page, this is a fancomic, written and drawn by yours truly, unassociated with anything official. As of this writing, there are two "Volumes", each consisting of 4 issues a piece. The story follows Dethklok and their all-girl-lady-centric counterparts, Baen-Shee, as they discover the magic of friendship... as they go on an epic quest to restore the kingdom of... as they deal with the highs and lows of superstardom, relationships, loss, bears, assassins, world domination, literal and emotional transformation, and the prophecy that ties them all together. I made it as a way to pass the time back when the movie was first announced and it continues to keep me entertained as we wait for the Army of the Doomstar's premiere. Hope it does the same for you! Don't really consume original batman comics, can't have acess to this things but I started to read and watch batjokes stuff. I'll say that I consume from the dark and reflecting to the wholesome peak, and one of that keeps heartwarming me is Telltale batjokes. Love how John can go from scary smiling creature to a precious sweetheart. Also like to see different versions of Joker interactions with the batfam in the various fancomics and fanfics. What makes think how I don't see many fics about John Doe with the batfam. Of course I see that is because the Telltale universe doesn't have the Bruce's kids, what is really sad because I think that "collision" could give us some truly great things.

What scenarios do you think it could be treated on these stories that you haven't saw being made yet?

Also, I saw once a post a person made talking how they'd like about John exploring more his sexuality. Like, that would focus more in the John's experiences out of Arkham BEFORE meeting Bruce again. Trying new clothes, talking with new people, discovering makeup (that I think he wouldn't get acess in Arkham). Do you have any thoughts about that too?

Recently I watched some videos that talk about John's possible disorders. How looks like he keeps switching from 'John' to 'Joker' and how he was way more "Joker" in Arkham, maybe having a kind of personality disorder. Sure, must be in that way because they wanted a different John from the one that we have in season one, but we can dream about this a little bit, can we?

That was long. Sorry for the errors, english it's not my language. Like your fics btw. The more I read some things, more I like the whole fan creation stuff and understand better too.

Thank you for the message, and for enjoying my fic! No worries about the length. I'll take your questions one by one:

John Doe and the Batfam

I think one of the reasons not a lot of people (including me) have incorporated the batfam into Telltale fic is that a big selling point for writing it is that the Telltale-verse is its own thing. There's much, much less history to complicate matters if you want to write a canon-compliant story, which includes there being no children to distract Bruce from his relationship with John, which a lot of fic focuses on. The batjokes is certainly what I enjoy! I don't have anything against the batfam (and I'm actually trying to read a little more about at least some of them), but since that interest has never been super high, my fic ideas never went in that direction.

If I do think about bringing in batfam, well, I get a little stuck.

While John is a lighter flavor of Joker, he's still a Joker, and Joker is not a parental person. In the comics he has had some interesting nonviolent interactions with kids, indulging or even protecting them, but that's not the same as being responsible for them. And one of the stronger Joker characteristics John has is his obsession with Bruce and wanting his attention. I don't think John would go all "Death of the Family" on a kid brought into the manor, but he would be wildly jealous. Like, my first plot bunny is John getting a visit from Bruce, who tells him about witnessing this tragic accident at the circus that left a poor child acrobat orphaned, and wanting to help him. Then over more visits, we get a story of little Dick Grayson insisting on investigating his parents murder, so intently that he becomes Bruce's vigilante partner. And John, who's been gnawing on his jealousy over Bruce spending all this time with some kid, loses his shit that an 8-year-old is a better vigilante than he ever was. Just spiraling about how Bruce is forgetting about him. He breaks out, insisting he can help, but just gets thrown back in again. A tragedy!

Okay, let's try one with John out of Arkham, and let's go non-chronological this time and say Bruce meets Jason Todd first. Jason's trying to steal the batmobile's tires, of course, but he's also a witness to a murder or something, so Bruce brings him home. This time John directly witnesses Bruce bonding with a troubled kid, and the jealousy is worse because John recognizes all the ways Bruce calms him down. John and Jason don't get along at all because John is constantly trying to get Bruce to shuttle this kid off to a nice foster home, but similar to the scenario above, Jason's moxy earns him a Robin spot. Then a twist! Jason has leaned into Bruce's mentoring because he wants to find his mother, who he's sure is alive! And John is like, well dang, I'll help you find her if it gets you out of my house. And in some eerie parallels to Jason's comic death, they end up overseas and find Sheila Haywood, who it turns out is defrauding the aid organization she works for. On being discovered, the men she's working with attack Jason, and John has this terrible opportunity to take his jealousy past the brink and let whatever happens to Jason happen-- but he doesn't. He saves Jason instead, not just because he knows Bruce would be wrecked but because he sees parts of himself reflected in Jason. There, that's sort of nicer! I still don't think John would be parental after that, but it would be nicer??

John's Self-Exploration

See, the thing with John having new experiences after getting out of Arkham is that they have to be limited, because that's key to what happens with his character in the game. He's really struggling with finding who he is, because he keeps trying to emulate other people rather than figure out what he personally wants to do with this life. (Which would be understandable even if he was the average person. It's easier to model yourself after somebody else than to put yourself out there again and again to figure out what works for you.) Before Bruce reappears, John is focused on being who he thinks Harley wants him to be and having a place with the gang. It ties into his hatred for Riddler, who just outright disdained of him instead of simply tolerating him like, say, Freeze.

He still naturally does some exploration, of course. He has to dress himself outside of Arkham, and he's a talkative guy so he managed to find, uh, acquaintances outside of the Pact at the Stacked Deck. It probably would have helped him a lot if he'd done more of that, but as much as he seems to act independently in the game, all too often it's in service of impressing Harley or then Bruce. If I were to write about John's exploration, it would probably be about restraint. He would be full of curiosity about the ways other people express themselves, and he'd stifle it because he's not sure if that's what Harley would want. Makeup would be a big curiosity for sure, but I can see John not indulging either because he doesn't see a lot of other guys wear it or because he asked Harley if he could try her kit and she decided to psych him out about it because she could.

Is it too drastic to say that a John who had even trepidatious confidence for self-exploration might have found more balance and avoided his fate in the game? Maybe, but I have to wonder.

John In Arkham Versus Outside Arkham

Personally I tread lightly when it comes to assigning specific disorders to John. It's one thing if someone recognizes their own diagnosis in him and uses that to inform a fic. When it comes to the writing in the game, as far as I can tell, it was just working off characteristics common to the Joker: impulsive, manipulative, self-important, and infatuated with violence, with a poor sense of boundaries and an inappropriate sense of humor. Those traits may be consistent with certain disorders, but there aren't that many fic scenarios where I would feel the need to specify what applies to John, and in those cases I would be extremely careful. When it comes to pure speculation? I'm just not qualified. Heck, I have a fic where I gave John a heart diagnosis and I'm still hoping I wasn't super off-base.

As for the shift from "Joker" to "John," I ascribe to the fish-out-of-water explanation (which, yeah, papers over how Telltale simply needed to change his character for the story). John learned a more aggressive way to navigate life when he was incarcerated in a corrupt asylum, and when the rules he lived by there did not apply outside of it, he had to re-map. Not only did he have to learn different ways to behave, but he had to do it while feeling more off-kilter than usual, exposed and vulnerable. Make a mistake when living in Arkham, you just get put in a deeper hole in Arkham. Make a mistake outside of Arkham, you lose all your newfound freedom and get thrown back behind bars. I don't see a "switch" in John, just him reverting to more aggressive behavior at times, especially when he's under stress.

Well, I hope my thoughts were… interesting? I feel like I pushed back on most of your starting points and that's probably annoying. Sorry!

Hard to do Crossover

Time to time, watching the lots of crossovers fans do about Varian with anything, I thought about one of the fandom I liked and spend lots of years in it

Does any of you knew about the Hetalia fandom ?

Humanized countries anime, before the creation of Countryballs and Country humans but after the old newspaper cartoons about each one nation spirit like "Uncle Sam" for the USA and "John Bull"for the UK?

I tried to find who in the Hetalia cast would be fitting for a role swap with the Vat7k characters, but they are so different from each other , even the similar things between them have to be pushed xD

Long time ago, my favorite fanfics and fancomics were "Historical accurrate" focused, but most the content was about romance , so I endup becoming a big fan of:

FrUK : France x United Kingdom

USUK : United States x United Kingdom

Usually along with "FACE family" Dynamic, France and England as parents , Canada and America as adoptive sons

Then , I got a more deep liking for England , so I would get any England x (any other country) material

As well for USA x (any other country)

Varian: From a germanic country, so we have some to pick between the very Germany, or Prussia, Austria, Switzerland, Lietchestein, Bravaria or Kugel Mugel, but most of them have a serious stoic attitude

Except Prussia, who likes to play funny, is clean and disciplinated , writing a lot for his journal so everyone can know about his amazing adventures and goals, high self esteem, able to play teacher/mother/father/older brother role to any who wants to take lessons from him or who needs him, during the manga pages (and anime chapters) about Industrial revolution, he and his lil bro showed great engineering skills and enthusiasm.

Hey, when we think about Rapunzel, we were taught about her Germanic origins, then on the Tangled making, there was a mention about how the team wanted Germany as main influence and a few of Spain influence , and maybe not lots of you saw it, but there was a fanart about Prussia and Hungary cosplaying Eugene and Rapunzel that got re-posted on most old Facebook accounts about Hetalia

So feels like Prussia role was already taken at the Tangled cast, as well, Hungary on her cannon scenes, used a frying pan as weapon too.

Next pick for a fitting role for Varian, it may be , America? I don't know xD , joyful, friendly, strong, innovative, but doesn't knows how to measure his skills or social contact so he endups pushing everyone boundaries or ignoring safety codes, loves heroic tales and wants to be the hero of the situation at sigh, too bad he makes exaggerated bad takes due to his inexperience.

England, either for Hugo or Varian

A tsundere who suffered social exclusion during his early existence, who fought all the way to stop being poor, forgotten and put aside to reach riches, glory and power, not losing contact with his magical paranormal friends, yet, having difficult times to accept friendship or love from others, facing betrayings as well, a little bit of low self esteem, trying to compensate with other things (as with aggression and search for more power), for innovation, he tried engineering but his ideas were too eccentric so he would end up laughed at for his impractical machines, yet, searching ways to improve.

I need to make this shorter so I'll skip talking about France

As well about China or any other asian country for Yong

Sadly for Nuru , there are very few African or Oceanic based characters, most of them on a sole official videogame of the series with not enough screen time on the show, yet, nice to search around the fanbase

Any way, find something for an "accurrate " role swap is difficult, maybe cosplaying would be the only thing I would fantasy about xDdDDDDdD

The only "legit" version for a Crossover of Hetalia and Tangled would be creating brand new OCs of each one of the locations in the map of this world, specially about the 7 kingdoms

Bayangor looks kin to any country from Southeast Asia , so I would pick Indonesia (the series got a femenine character sketch, but then, changed it for a male one, either way, just for the manga and not the anime)

Galcrest and Nesdernia would certainly be about native american communities, sadly, most of them are drawn as OCs for the fandom, no actual cannon characters

Pittsford and Corona looks germanic enough, hehe, we could pick similarities with other European countries

The Dark Kingdom gave hints about Scotland , so it's easier

Ingvarr, according to some post, was supposed to be Persian/ Arabic influence, as well for Koto, African influence, but is vague, and both of them, reversing the role of colonization, looking like ... O dear, I have to go.

In 2005, a young artist called Felipe, who uses the name Yuski on deviantArt, alongside his girlfriend (now wife) Mileny Raquel, did a fancomic of Chaotix Detectives together. At the time, Chaotix comeback (basically a debut since almost no people had 32X to play the original game), made they want to make some stories with those crazy detectives, being influenced by Sonic Heroes, Sonic X anime and the japanese manga Dash & Spin Hyper Speed Sonic - which we collected in a Japanese Book store.

Six stories were made, but in a very rough, no serious way - which I admit is part of it funny aspect. A friend who organized a Sonic meeting wanted to distribute some copies of it printed for the fans, but I didn´t had the files in high resolution anymore, so he decided by himself revisit that old work to it have a higher resolution... and to revive that really fun moments drawing this crazy comic. FINALLY Introducing : Sonic Emerald Guardians AU

SO. I've never actually shown this outside of discord yet. I said I'd post everything about it in April 2022... and then I didn't and it's now July 2023 so it's high time I followed through !! Nothing about it is finished yet, and it's my first big public project so please be nice ?

Yes, so what's it actually about ?

Well to be concise, it's the whole game series but rewritten with new laws to the world and a consistent canon ! ( yes, quite the endeavor ) What's chaos energy ? What are rings ? Inhibitor rings ? Deities ? How do the characters' powers work ? All that good stuff.

That's pretty much it really, basically I'm trying to flesh out the worldbuilding to overthinking limits.

Telling you right now : the bulk of the work I've done on it so far is character design explorations and a currently 17 pages-long google doc with all the lore ( and it's nowhere near done ), with on the side some short drabbles and a wip timeline mind map.

The end goal is to make this a sort of abstract fancomic, spanning about one game per issue maybe ? We'll see. In the meantime I'm working on more character designs, and thinking about their stories and stuff.

Hopefully you guys enjoy whatever this is !

oughhh i was plagued by ghost game related thoughts today. this is messy and disorganized and a lot so don't mind me gbdsfhgbdjfg

it's been like half a year or so since i finished watching it so this is mostly unprompted and like

i do kind of wonder what would have happened with ghost game if instead of a bigger focus on purely pick up and go scooby doo shit, they were willing to tell an overarching story with the elements they had

i think i enjoyed it so much if only because it gave us something we hadn't seen much of to that point (that i'm now realizing is one of those things appmon heavily inspired in GG), that being digimon affecting technology in complex ways

(that's to say, not just bricking computers like giant magnets or making binary flash on the screen to ominous messages like makuramon does in tamers)

but like also digimon having more interactions with humans in general? just kind of hanging out and living in the human world? yeah the field exists and digimon can bworp in and out of being visible to humans without VBs, but they also live in a setting where they can mostly get away with just going "no yeah i'm just a very advanced hologram, dw about it :)"

i also refuse to get over the fact that gammamon is like, canonically plural, and i really wish we had more time with gulus after the finale ep reveals about him and the GRB shit.

also, i do wonder if maybe the series shot itself in the foot by not knowing what it wanted to do, plot wise? it gave us expectations in the first episode as an audience--- suggesting big and strange things to be delivered, and didn't seem to know how to really deliver on them while also trying to be that variety of scooby doo shit that doesn't have to have a throughline plot (aka, setting up a mystery inc style story when it's got a stated goal to be more like the original series)

i was still using reddit at the time GG started, and i remember a lot of people really wanting to hype it up as "the next tamers," especially after they saw the tone and structure of the first episode. in general, i wonder if high expectations put more scrutiny on GG than it might have otherwise gotten.

(this of course isn't to say that there's criticism to be had for GG. i mean i just said i personally have beef with its lack of narrative commitment. i'm just wondering if maybe some people got a little too excited to see a series that met the lofty nostalgia of something like tamers.)

anyways, idk, there's not really anywhere i'm going with this one, i just had some idle thoughts at work today about this series.

Plus three of my own new designs: - Dark Princess Osakaite, a design for my own project, where Naru’s past life held a terrible secret, and a strained relationship with her mother as she was forced to serve Queen Metallia... - Metallic Sailor Sun. This is for those 5 ppl who are interested in my modern mundane band au heronstairs unwritten fanfic (unfinished fancomic)

CUPID'S CHOKEHOLD:

1. Ella, Will and Cecily get kidnapped as kids, ella dies, will and cecily gets out, will has survivor's guilt and thinks its his fault so he runs away.

2.Will parents try to look for him but give up after a few months thinking he is prolly dead by now.

3. Edmund is a dead beat, linette's soul is drained as tine goes by, cecily starts doing odd jobs and illegal shit to get money to help run the family and pay off debts

4. Cecily gets involved in a underground parkour(?) illegal scene (idfk man injust want her to climb buildings running from the cops in one scene)

5. Will runs away to london, somehow, is adopted by charlotte's (charlie) parents when charlie is 15/16. Jessamine also is adopted at the same time, her parents die and charlotte's parents were distant family friends who took her in. And all the other family members let them bc moneyyy

6. Will and jessamine and charlie have a sibling bond.

7. Charlie and Henry start dating when they are 16 and 17.

They meet at a school function where the boy's school and the girls school are participating together.

Or at a party in the bathroom, in the bathtub, they sit there sharing earphones, the party becomes irrelevant as they stare at the moon in the dark bathroom with "temporary high" by AURORA plays in their ear

8. Both are introverted nerds and quickly become friends. Henry plays drums bc i said so. Charlotte is in the debate and in the volleyball team, nishinoya ass bitch

9. They sneak out one night and encounter sofie, face torn in half, bleeding like a faucet, she runs towards them across the street with a man chasing her, as she reaches them the man behind her gets hit by a car.

10.Charlotte takes her home...

11. 3rd adopted child boom!

12.Sophie doesn't want to take any help from them so the fairchilds basically tell her to be the babysitter for will and jessamine.

13. She agrees and takes the weekly salary.

14. As a means of self defence she picks up boxing. The fairchilds encourage this, she is enrolled in the same school as the other kids and practices in the gyms. She becomes a professional kickboxer.( and an illegal one underground)

Hello, I have lost my mind and decided to commit to summarizing the Dethkomics over on the MTL OC Wiki and that meant they needed covers so I made some for them using some of my favorite art from the last three years and yes, that pic of Nita on Issue #8 is new!

Dethkomic's soon going to have 8 issues under its belt, and I definitely think it's high-time I had summaries of all the books thus far..! I'll be working on these summaries in the coming weeks. Hope it helps those of you who don't have time to read the whole series and want to keep up with it, here and there. :)

I can’t remember the last time I’ve ever posted something on this app but I’m willing to offer my services on the following:

• I was born in Mexico to Mexican parents, so I have a good bit of knowledge on slang, puns, culture, etc. since Miguel is half Mexican.

• I am a native Spanish speaker and bilingual in both Spanish and English.

• I have taken plenty of Spanish classes when I was in school. The highest I’ve reached was Honors Spanish IV.

• I had plenty experience translating/interpreting when I was in middle school and high school with ESL students.

• I have experience translating/interpreting for my wonderful parents as well.

I think one of the reasons ROTTMNT sunk immediately and cozied up in my heart like it did is it and the fancomics and the fanfics(for the most part) are all nice depictions of someone with autism being treated well. Like, Donnie's allowed to be himself and it's not a huge thing or the end of the world if he doesn't emote or participate heavily in things. And at the same time, allowed to flourish when he does do something and participate. Idk it's just nice seeing as how I (until very recently) was undiagnosed.

A lot of things didn't make sense in my life, and i struggled when the possibility that I was autistic came to a head. It's not something that can be fixed with medication, or will go away. It would mean that I would have to take steps and be careful in ways that I wasn't before...which is hilarious to me now cuz just going charging in with spite and determination into everything and acting strong and unbothered would last for only a little bit before I had multiple breakdowns and eventually burn out while being unable to interact with anything other than my bed and phone.

The show and fans and outreach made me realize I can actually thrive, and after some time and training on how to help me- my friends and family can assist me in it. And that it's okay to be my funky little self. Also, now I have good coping mechanisms so I don't shut myself in my room and not eat just sleep for 24-72 hours straight. It still happens but not as bad. This is especially nice since I've somehow been able to keep a steady job for 5 years, and I can't afford to keep doing that.

So, long way of saying the stigmatism I knew always sucked, but being able to see past it rocks.

Also unrelated but my best friend. I told her the possibility that I might be autisic (while I was waiting for my neuropsychologist to get back to me with results) she said "[I guess I could see that. I feel like it would have to be low and you would obviously be SO high functioning]" unbeknownst to her I had just emerged from a week-long shutdown. We all make real good actors, guys. Also she didn't realize (like I) that a lot of my quirks are symptoms and signs. What a world!

For the rest of 2023 and probably into 2024, there's a very high probability I won't be able to post new art, given that my job has become busier as of the past couple months.

I will be reposting my Ocean Hunter fancomic's updated main characters sheet (to retcon & fix a few details again; hopefully for the last time) sometime later in December. But after that, if I somehow post something new, it'd be a freaking miracle.
