As Barney swirls the whiskey in his glass, he scans the room to hunt for his next unsuspecting prey. In other words, the next woman he was gonna gaslight into having sex with. (💀)

Then, his eyes land on someone across the bar, sitting all alone by herself. Intrigued, he slowly approaches her while coming up with another one of his inane backstories to entice his victim as per usual.

But then, to his surprise, she turns to face him. “Hey, you need to try this.”

Slightly taken aback, Barney stares blankly at the drink in her hands, not expecting her to be the one to initiate conversation. “Are you trying to get me drunk?”

She lightheartedly frowns at his response. “No, I just want you to take a little sip. And no, I promise I didn’t drug it either. Here.” She takes a sip from her glass as proof, as though reading his inner thoughts.

Convinced yet still slightly bewildered, he shrugs. “Alright, fine; gimme.”

She hands him over the drink as he sets his down before promptly taking a sip, his eyes widening at the unfamiliar taste.

“Woah, that’s-“

“I know, right?”

He smiles softly at the grin on her face, seeming to lighten up his mood. “I’m Barney, by the way.” He reaches out a polite hand.

“I’m Y/N, it’s nice to meet you.” She takes his hand in hers and shakes it.

“It’s my pleasure. So, what’s a pretty lady like you sitting all alone in a bar?“

“And if I told you that I was waiting for someone?”

Barney lets out a scoff. “Then you wouldn’t have been wearing that frown on your face earlier.”

Y/N shrugs, knowing that he wasn’t wrong. “Fair enough. You want the honest, boring answer?”

He nods. “Try me.”

“I’m here to blow off some steam. I’ve been trying to find a job for weeks now. Can’t even nail a decent interview.” She chuckles softly, shaking her head to herself. “And what about you? Tall, blond guy in a brooding suit. What’s your reason?”

Barney sighs. “Do you want the honest, not-so-boring answer?”

“Try me.”

He slowly leans in closer, as though he was about to share an important secret. “I was sent as a spy from the future to warn about the upcoming rapture one thousand years from now. And the only way to save the world is-“

“Let me guess, to have sex with you?” she cuts him off, clearly not amused.

Barney blinks his eyes innocently, surprised at her sudden question. “What? Pssh, no,” he says, seemingly appalled. “Do you want to?”

Y/N rolls her eyes at the desperate man. “Okay, I see, so the reason why you’re here is to hit on dumb blondes and gaslight them into having sex with you by using one of your inane backstories?”

“And it seems as though you’re not one of them.”

They smile at each other, both cockily in a way that was playful yet enticing.

“I’m curious, though… does that actually work?”

“Oh hell yeah, and that’s not even one of the craziest ones I’ve used.”

Her eyes widen slightly, now intrigued. “Really?”

Barney nods. “I could tell you more, but we may have to be here for hours.”

Y/N turns around to check the clock on a nearby wall before promptly facing him once more. “I got some time to spare.”

Barney smiles, satisfied with her answer. “That’s what I like to hear.”

He sits on the chair beside hers as he proceeds to tell her more about his desperate ploys.

To them, their conversation had only lasted for a few minutes, but the next thing they knew, the bar was already closing and they had to be personally kicked out by the bar owner for overstaying their welcome.

The two decided to walk around the city late at night, lights flickering past as the moon shone high above, seeming to follow them in their journey.

“Wait, what time is it?”

Barney checks the watch on his wrist, suddenly putting a halt to his movements in surprise. “Woah. It’s almost 2AM.”

She stops to stand beside him, her eyes widening. “Are you serious?”

“Yeah, we just spent like 4 hours talking to each other.”

“Huh.”

“Huh indeed.”

They both take a moment to stare at one another, the silence oddly comforting. When they were together, it was as if nobody else mattered. No one else was sharing the moments they had except for the two.

Y/N purses her lips before speaking up, finally breaking the silence. “Well then, I have to confess something before this night ends.”

He hums, signaling for her to continue.

“I don’t usually let some guy even go near me whenever I’m at a bar, sitting alone grumpily.”

He chuckles lightly.

“But… I actually enjoyed our little date that isn’t a date.”

He smiles, taking a subtle step closer towards her. “Well, I think every date that isn’t a date should end with a good night kiss.”

He leans in to connect their lips, but to his surprise, she leans away.

“Tell me, Barney, do you believe in fate?”

Barney — clearly disappointed — frowns at her sudden interruption. “No, not really.”

She simply smiles at his disgruntled expressions. “Well, I do, and if we’re meant to be, then we’ll see each other again.”

“So am I not getting my good night kiss or…?”

She chuckles at his little pout. “Look, if we ever cross paths again, then you can give it to me. No questions asked.”

“Why can’t I just give it to you now? I promise I’m a great kisser. I got like a hundred different girls who can attest to th-“

She puts a finger over his lips, shutting him up in an instant.

“Be patient. I promise, next time, I won’t make you wait one more second.”

“If there even will be a next time.”

Y/N frowns at him as she removes the finger on his lips, earning an eye roll from him.

“Fine, if you want to play hard to get, then so be it.”

She smiles. “Good.”

“At least let me walk you home. Where’d you say it was you lived again?”

She gives him a knowing look. “Haha, nice try,” she says in a sarcastic tone.

“Can’t blame a guy for trying. But seriously, you sure you’ll be okay? It’s pretty late, and New York is filled with all kinds of creeps.”

Y/N smiles at his worried expressions. “Yeah, I’ll be fine. I don’t live that far from here.”

Barney’s eyes light up, pointing a finger at her. “Aha! So you do live somewhere in this area.”

“I could also be messing with you.”

He rolls his eyes at her once more as she giggles at him.

“Good night, Barney.”

He returns the smile on her face. “Good night, Y/N.”

the cancellation of 'how i met your father' is actually a much greater loss for television than i'm sure most people are going to give it credit for.

for starters, this show marked a big part of bringing back longer-format sitcoms, where seasons lasted 24 episodes and the idea was to follow the characters through several years of their lives, marking major life milestones, etc. it leaned into the comedy, both physical and witty, and allowed its audience the pleasure of following an assorted group of random but very close friends through shenanigans. it had the simple joy of good old fun.

it also seemed like a great example of very casual but genuine representation & diversity. one thing i loved about the show was how there was poc representation & lgbtq+ representation, but that wasn't the only thing those characters were there for. sid was a south asian man, but it didn't define him - even without that he would've been a fleshed out and interesting character. ellen was an east asian lesbian, and the same applied for her. in fact, her journey of self-love was an important part of her story, and yet it was not at all related to either aspect of her identity. (i know they weren't the only examples, but you get it.)

minorities were allowed to exist as humans, without existing only as minorities, which is a box many shows put their characters in, and it was nice to see it done well for a change. yes, it could have had even more diversity, but the point very much still stands, including in the fact that we never saw sophie's son because he could have been any race (a welcomed progression from the characteristic 00s all-white himym cast).

i know lots of people gave the 1st season a shot and didn't come back for the 2nd, because they found it forced and cringey and various other things.

but in s2 the writing and characters found their feet - the jokes were funnier, the stories were more enjoyable, the characters were more lovable, and it was clear that with time the show had grown into itself.

and it's a shame, for himyf, its fans & the sitcom genre as a whole, that this show will never be allowed any more time, never be afforded the opportunity, to keep growing, and conclude all those stories they set up.

would you rather have my upcoming jeno wip a one shot or a series? the way it’s going… i have a lot of ideas and plots and i’m also introducing some really interesting side characters!! (such as sunwoo and eric from the boyz, yeji from itzy, heejin from artms and moreee) and i want time to fully develop those characters as well as our mains ofcccc but at the same time one shots are cute cus it’s like a lil movie!!! but series…. idk so i’m gonna let you guys choose (if you wanna know more about the plot, the bullet points below explain it summed up. also, i’ve linked every single spoiler i’ve written for it — i hope this helps you make a decision)

btw if you have no idea what i’m talking about, i’m currently working very hard on a new jeno wip. (although i haven’t written an actual synopsis) the overall plot basically follows

lee jeno, loves fucking around, fucks readers best friend in their shared apartment but only points out things in the apartment which belong to reader (yes, himym reference!!)

jeno suddenly becomes intrigued of reader and one thing leads to another, they have hot sex! then jeno actively pursues her but she has attachment issues, trust issues and it will take jeno a lot of trying but he doesn’t back down!

oh and reader is really hot and mysterious and the quiet shy type but she is a bassist in a band :) and she’s very attractive and sexy but doesn’t really know it yet

reader isn’t the only one with any issues cus jeno has an ex/ex fling who stirs shit up!

i want the side characters to have a really lasting impact and become favourites, including the members in readers band (sunwoo, eric and yeji) also the 00 nct liners and readers best friends who are both oc’s

hi omg okay sorry this took like two days im a mess ive never actually been to karaoke or had a meet cute but i was thinking about himym

Oscar never thought he'd be happy that Lando dragged him out to karaoke, but then she walked up on stage and he couldn't drop the stupid grin from his face. He didn't know the song, but she captured his attention the moment she flipped off the crowd and cursed her friends in the mic for signing her up for it as the first few chords rang out. Despite the initial annoyance on her face, she starts bobbing her head and swaying her hips to the song, tapping the mic to the beat. He wonders if she's some kind of singer, because her voice is the sweetest he's ever heard, and he's been to karaoke in a dozen countries and he's never been enraptured like this. Hell, they have performers for post race celebrations, but the five minute solo she has before the audience rewards her with applause is the best five minutes of his life.

She takes the mic off the stand and dances across the stage during the instrumentals, his eyes locked on her hips when she spins around and shakes them at the crowd, her skirt fanning out around her before she turns back around as the chorus starts over. Lando says something at some point but he doesn't register the teasing remark his teammate makes, too caught up in watching the woman serenade her friends, pointing to their table somewhere behind Oscar's as she belts out the last line. The confidence of her performance seems to fade as soon as the song ends, and she awkwardly places the mic back on the stand and tucks her hair behind her ears as the room erupts in applause and hoots, she mumbles a thanks into the mic before scurrying off the stage.

Oscar can't help but try and follow her through the crowd, but he has trouble finding her sparkly top in the mess of people. He loses her in the crowd despite turning around in his seat to try and keep up with her. He turns back to his teammate, or where his teammate should be, but he's not there. He sinks back into his chair and sighs, resigning himself to being ditched by his friend on another night out. He's scrolling through Instagram reel comments and wondering if he should just leave now, when he hears his teammates sing song-y voice, "Have you met Oscar?" A moment later, the woman from the stage is pushed into the seat Lando was previously occupying, his teammate standing behind her as he grins down at Oscar. He gives him a wink as he raises his glass before promptly turning around and leaving them alone.

Oscar looks back to her, his cheeks pink as he raises his hand and says, "Hi, I'm Oscar. Sorry, he does that."

She grins sheepishly as she takes his hand and says her own name, "It's okay, I don't mind being introduced to pretty boys." His cheeks are burning as he shakes his hand under the table, trying to regain feeling in his fingers.

He doesn't know how to take the compliment, so he praises her back, "You were really good up there."

Her grin widens and she looks back to the stage momentarily before countering, "Thanks, I haven't seen you up there yet, otherwise I'd say the same."

He laughs a little, "Honestly, it's not really my thing, my friend brought me here. I'll need a few more drinks in me before I can get up there." She quirks an eyebrow at him, as if she's accepting that as a challenge.

One hour and three shots later, she has him leaning over her shoulder looking through the songbook as she tries to find a duet they both know. She settles on Don't Go Breaking My Heart. Oscar wishes she had picked anything else, wishes he hadn't exclaimed that he loved that song, because when he's up on stage drunkenly singing the words, he's truly hoping she won't break his heart at the end of the night when he asks if he can see her again.

Some notable moments from the show (an evening with Bob Odenkirk, guest hosted by David Baddiel) on Monday:

Mike was created because Bob couldn’t shoot a fourth ep due to HIMYM conflicting, he commented that it ended up making a lot more sense because “Saul would never move a body”

Said Saul’s only real “human” (Jimmy) moments in BrBa in his opinion were 1. When he tries to encourage Jesse to go talk to Andrea and Brock rather than waiting in the car, he said “there’s no incentive or benefit for Saul, he won’t make any money and it’s a risk for Jesse to be seen” (imo Jimmy more than Saul speaks to Brock and Andrea anyway) and 2. When he’s telling Walt to just quit while he’s ahead, because “Saul doesn’t care, he doesn’t care if this guy dies or if he’s family dies, why should he?”

Said the Saul hair (“combover on top, mullet in the back”) was his idea after reading the script

His agent apparently told him “please do not say no” to breaking bad and his response was “well I’m gonna” and he turned to us and continued “because that’s how I am, I’m difficult”

The first scene he shot was the Walt and Jesse in the desert scene, he said it was during a sandstorm which didn’t pick up on camera but every time they opened their mouths they were full of sand.

The desert scene with Mike took 14 “gruelling” days to shoot, out in the ABQ desert.

They had a snake wrangler on to clear any areas they were filming in (and obtain a snake if one was needed) but during the desert trek they didn’t come across a single snake in the entire 14 days and the wrangler said it was because it was too hot. For the desert snakes.

His heart attack occurred during the Lalo/mcwexler confrontation scene in the final season, and parts of it are from after his recovery months later. It’s been said a lot, but hearing Bob personally say out loud that he was “out” for 15 minutes and that his training for Nobody saved his life (which he explained how and why in detail) was Wild. I lost my dad due to heart complications, I’m really glad he was able to pull through.

David didn’t know about the heart attack, he was taken aback and stated Bob looked “damn good” and we all applauded

He essentially confirmed that Kim likes Jimmy because she’s also insane. He said it in a very roundabout way (“they’re both damaged, weird loners” and “she hides it better but she was more into it than him at times” lmao) but that was the gist.

Credits Giancarlo Esposito as perhaps the best actor he’s ever worked with and spoke about the wine bar scene for a good 5 minutes. The women behind me whispered “Gus is gay” during this.

Said the first time he met David Cross the man turned up to his home holding a basketball (at around 27 years old) asking if Bob wanted to play. He replied that he’d just made a sandwich.

He’s a huge Monty Python nerd and kept speaking about it at lengths during random intervals. Someone in the audience shouted that he was saying “Python” wrong (because he’s, ya know, American and says it with an American accent) and he attempted to say it “properly”. He could say Python, he could not say Monty. He thought Python was spelt Pythun, though.

He then did the same when David said Ree-ah instead of Ray for Rhea’s name lmao

He said “I might be slow but I’m not stupid” and briefly chanted “slow is not stupid!”

Apparently hates parody comedy (doesn’t care enough about popular culture. Relatable)

Didn’t expand on it much (because Baddiel hadn’t finished the series before literally interviewing the main actor) but said one of his favourite scenes is the breakup scene, and that he loved when Saul was thrown in the trash, saying “he deserves it”

Told Vince to “beat the shit out of this guy” (JimmySaul) in bcs

Enjoys shooting in difficult locations or circumstances (man likes to suffer for his art ig lmao)

When asked about the piss drinking scene, stated “I refused to drink my own piss, I’m fed up of the taste, so I had the whole crew mix a little of their piss into the bottle so it was a complete mystery” did not explain what was actually in the piss jugs

His wife was just offstage the whole time which was very sweet

Bob said he’s nothing like Saul/Jimmy many times and the central reason he said so is because “Saul needs everybody to like him, Jimmy just wants the respect and admiration of his brother, and I don’t care, I just wanna make myself happy”

His favourite show is BBCs Royle Family

We could submit questions during interval and he answered a couple, one was “do you eat at Cinnabon” to which he replied “no, I had a heart attack” lmao. Baddiel was surprised Cinnabon was a real place.

We all got a free copy of his book (tho apparently he didn’t know?) with our tickets so that’s cool. Will be reading in the next 5-60 months

He got 3 people up on stage to read him questions he’d written and one woman, Claire, was absolutely amazing and actually successfully matched Bob’s stage presence and energy when reading this (hilarious) script he gave her. The others did great too but Claire is the MVP of the evening

Right near the start he said the word cunt. I was thrilled.

OFMD 2.01-2.03 thoughts!

Spoilers aplenty!

I've only watched the episodes the once so far so I'm sure I'm gonna forget a lot of stuff, but I can contain myself no longer, and must speak!

Oh man, I am SO EXCITED. I couldn't sleep because trying to go to bed with this many fictional feelios crackling away inside of me was just impossible, like I'd chugged a crazy amount of caffeine. This is also exactly how I felt the night that 1.09 and 1.10 aired, so it felt so fitting. (Ironically, I'm writing this before I have my caffeine today because I can wait no longer, so it might make no sense. But I have to try!)

I've watched season one soooooo many times -- like, every episode is just completely scored upon my psyche, I basically have the whole thing memorized -- so it felt so WILD to finally be getting MORE and it was REAL! This also reminded me of how the season one finale was perhaps the most upset I've ever been about television, outside of unjust character deaths, HIMYM, etc. -- like, upset in a way where it was narratively thrilling to be so upset, for a change! But the emotional distress of that ending obviously settled down a bit to me once I'd watched the episode for the zillionth time and just really got used to what happened to Ed. That initial shock wore off. So picking up where that episode left off and spending these episodes really bearing witness to him still being in that place was SO VISCERALLY UPSETTING AND WILD AND GREAT!!!!!! Oh my God, Taika Waititi. Aaaaaacting!!!!

Everything just being darker, richer, so unhinged was really thrilling -- we can't really go back to the sort of affable placidity of a lot of season one, or at least not right now, and it just felt really appropriate for where the story is and like a really natural growth to the tone. I think it also really had a sense of exuberance powered by how lovingly received season one was, which just felt great to watch.

The gorgeous New Zealand landscapes, oh my God!!!! And how fitting it feels, now that it's not Stede playing at pirates so much as everything being Really God Damn Real, that the physical world has expanded so much around them and there's so much more of a sense of sublime natural beauty.

STEDE WAS A MERMAN!!!!!! sorry, getting ahead of myself here. But my God, I am so obsessed with the fact that they just went for that moment. It's camp! It's achingly beautiful! It's The Shape of Water, it's Splash, it's Zoolander, it's a reverse Killing Eve that my soul sorely needed! Kate Bush was there! They almost kissed under the water! ED'S LOVE FOR STEDE INTERRUPTED HIS DESIRE TO DIE! AUGHHHHHH.

I'm really, really sad that my internet gave out right in the middle of that sequence. I just feel so bummed that I'll never experience it for the first time the way David Jenkins & Co. intended because technology betrayed me! I will never have known the emotional build of that moment the way it was meant to be seen. 😢 But oh well! I'm dealing with it! I'm being so brave! (I'm always extremely weird about wanting fiction to have the exact impact on me that the creators strove for it to, and it really bothers me when it gets interrupted somehow. But at least, you know, it was just THIS, the show and romance I currently care most about in the WORLD!)

Anyway: the handholding and how it mirrors Ed putting his hand over Stede's and that close-up in 1.04! YES! What a shot to end the episode on, sob sob sob!

I also loved the two close-ups of Ed's eyes, at the start of the wedding rampage and then when he wakes up. Parallels! Yesss!!!

I know we all kinda expected it to happen for the whole hiatus, but that doesn't diminish at all the pure joy and unhingedness of Stede's total love for Ed never wavering even at the news that Ed's rampaging his way across the high seas in a state of total derangement. If that's a dealbreaker, then that's not love! They made him look like a GHOUL!

I really liked the tension between Stede and Lucius because that was something I hadn't really thought to expect. And Stede giving Lucius jaded life advice! Yes!

Sidenote: Lucius, alive? Who could have possibly seen it coming??? (Also, his reunion with Pete, 🥹🥹🥹!)

I also just generally loved getting to see the crew again and all of their antics together figuring out their circumstances. I missed you all so much!!!

MORE LADIES YESSSSS! I love Archie!!!!! I love Zheng!!!! I love Auntie!!!!! And I loved getting to see Spanish Jackie living her best life again! Such a joy to have so many hilarious badass women around. I am living for them all.

The romantic quadrangle stuff popping up with Olu and Jim was great fun on all sides (even if I had to watch makeouts while Jim was holding a recently severed leg; please, set aside the leg!), and I also loved how Jim told Olu about it right away and just the sweet vibes between them in their reunion scene, aww. Looking forward to seeing whatever happens there.

In particular, Zheng crushing on Olu was so cute and like, who can blame her?? History's greatest pirate: she's just like us! Omg, what an enemy for them to have now.

Also, Jim doing the voices for Fang FOREVER!!!!! Such a sweet moment! And Jim's speech about how sweet life on The Revenge used to be and how happy they all were together absolutely tore my heart out. Because yeah!!! I feel like we the audience members were part of that crew too!!! WE HAVE TO GO BACK, KATE!!!

I had vowed to hate Izzy forever, I held steadfast to my vow for all those hiatus months, and then these three episodes were like, "Ha ha, yeah right!" Magnificently played, ya bastards!!! You got me! I especially loved when he said to Stede that the two of them made Ed into what he became; that was so interesting and I'm really curious to see how Stede and Izzy's dynamic grows. Iz, I am so sorry about your many toes and then your leg. Wishing you the coolest peg leg.

Random sidenote: when Auntie was like, "Buttons is a sea witch contained in the body of a mortal man," I was 100% like ... That makes so much sense, actually??? I, for one, am a believer. Is this why you can speak seagull, sir/sea witch?

The whole sequence with Ed and Dream Hornigold in episode 3 was so good, aughhhhh! And THE RETURN OF JEFF. I love how on some level Ed just wants to work in the hospitality industry. Let! Him! And! Stede! Retire! And! Open! Their! Inn! Slash! Snakery! Snackery!

I am so excited that we have post-credits episode tags now. As if this show could get any more exquisite. IT DID. Now there's always just a lil' nibble more!

I love how, just like in season one, we got our Ed/Stede-less time out of the way quick by having the first three eps all air together. And now, let us sail perilously further into feelings land!

I have so much more to say but I'm so tired and I need black tea. I'm sure I'll be back later today with a zillion more belated thoughts! PEACE! 🧜‍♂️

Also, just a few Cinematic New Zealand Beach Vibes notes -- the opening dream sequence had me like, "Xena and Gabrielle at the end of 'The Bitter Suite'!"* and Ed waking up in beach purgatory had me like, "THE PIANO!" I just had to share. Idk why. Have I mentioned how happy I am that season two gets to be in New Zealand??

*Idk if this is in any way deliberate, but I firmly maintain that Ed/Stede has a lotta roots in Xena/Gabrielle. Like, if you ever feel like the universe simply can't give you enough Ed/Stede (understandable), then you should watch Xena for a lot of similar shippy emotional thrills. OFMD had better give us a nicer ending, tho. (Today I learned from a D. Jenks interview that Blackbeard historically got beheaded!!)

That's what I've been reading lately, I love that there's so many!!! I saw that there's one inspired by love rosie by tayloryorkyall but haven't read yet, though i'm sure it'll become a favorite 😊

As far as inspo, yes and no. Usually for me it comes from music, paramore and not paramore but reading new Tayley fic has def helped me loosen up a bit 🤭, like reading @ourlovesdelusions one shot, it reminded me that yeah, I can just drop a one shot and not cared that is not attached to the whole tayleyverse I made up in my mind, or reading her fics has for sure helped with my own time managment?? Might be weird but before I would've been stressing to finish my AL fic but now I post when I have something and don't feel bad for the little detours.

Other types of inspo, read the last chapter from @sillygoose375 and i'm in awe, of all the different ways to write Tayley saying 'I love you' without really ssying it.

Plus is always great to see Authors take a chance on certain moments I've been meaning to write but haven't for fear of messing them up, like the Tayley parahoy speech, or the hug at the opry, even, H telling Taylor about the engagement :), makes me wanna give them a go.

just curious, but do you have any predictions for the riverdale finale?? Honestly, I am waffling between two spaces, the "my bar is a tripping hazard in hell and who really cares" space and the "some things are interesting" space.

As for predictions, I really don't like to buy into twitter gossip, but my thought is maybe they'll take them back to high school? I've said before I feel a retcon a-coming, if only for Tabitha's implication that they have to go back to when things were good, and the very high-school garb we've seen Jug in. And if the finale is their one last shot to preserve SOME rewatchability and not HIMYM it, retconning a lot and putting at least Choni and VA together, with Bughead as an open ended, that'd be my prediction. Don't misunderstand, I am expecting next to nothing, but if I had to make a very general prediction, that'd be it.

When and where that'll be, I don't know. In the last few seconds? Last half? Who knows. I know they don't shoot in order, so it's really tough to tell. Either way, whatever the amount they retcon, it's going to be retconning at least SOME of the BA, so I doubt the most devout of BAs will be happy.

plans plans plans for writing before I forget

– just had a lightbulb moment for the Legacy Series, so that is definitely still happening, I just need to consult some other creators to see if my plans align with theirs and then all my kids will get to shine. then I hope to be mainly done with this era

– himym series will continue, I'll probably be writing it along with the hl series, but andy, hayden, manon and gigi will all get their spotlight there

– lizzie is getting a mini series too, because she is going through another crisis, jae, rath and andre will all be there to witness it

– the halcyon days might happen too because I've been cooking this idea in my brain for the longest time now and it wants to be free even if I don't think it's that good, also I miss julian

– I kinda want to write a bunch of one shots for the hl fankids too idk how it will go tho, I definitely want one for winnie, samuel and jojo

– frankie series will be published as I write it so expect the unexpected

– dwtd is still there somewhere too, but turns out I'm not quite ready for it yet, maybe it will rot for another 7 years before I'll write it

– at one point I do wish to let go of the hp fandom but it's not in the cards for another few years or so, I mean I need to do all the shit above first

Okay as someone rewatching HIMYM I do genuinely wanna hear your hottakes

ohhh dude let’s hang out and be best friends. i’m literally sitting on a 6k essay about himym’s problems, which are not particularly ground breaking insights but basically come down to “the show forgot ted was the main character.”

and to be clear that isn’t something the show states, and it’s not even something that is bad per se (although i love ted). it’s more like barney took over the show as the breakout character, and then they started to make him into the romantic lead quite literally (because they couldn’t continue to have ted be that lead), and then of course they aired the finale they’d written 6 years previously and it was a hot mess.

the show made a lot of mistakes, both large and small. it consistently forgot to show women’s pov (ahaha robin the designated love interest rip). it has some truly awful transphobic/homophobic/fatphobic jokes, has some very poorly aged pickup artist humor and sexism, although i think a lot of the other humor holds up. knowing how the show was “meant to end,” i think they made a huge mistake in not only obviously making barney and robin the main romance of the show — in one way or another, their relationship was a major plot for over half the series, made even more striking when you contrast it to ted/robin. i actually think ted/robin was also a mistake, or at least something they shouldn’t have had happen so *soon* — if they want us to root for that pair, and they clearly did, they really shouldn’t have told us the mother was ted’s soulmate, imply he’d dump robin for her in a second, *and* show ted and robin as incompatible and take away their will they-won’t they in season two of nine.

my current new obsession comes from seeing a random interview about “how i met your father,” a show i have zero desire to watch. apparently nph showed up. and after his cameo there was a little interview where one of the show’s lead writers said something like “i mean, he was the lead of himym so,” which is so true but WAS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE and i’m just fascinated by all the meta ways himym shot itself in the foot at every turn for years.

i can also just rant about more specific things. and i really do love himym!! i do!! i also just want to talk about how good and how funny it can be, how well it portrays found family and how fantastic all the characters and all the actor’s chemistry is. i guess on himym, unlike some other sitcoms, the actors were encouraged to laugh or react to one another’s lines, you know? and it just adds such an air of “these people might give one another shit but they all clearly love one another and love hanging out…” it’s just! all it needed was a boring ending where very little happened! and maybe then i wouldn’t feel vaguely embarrassed to still like it and want to spend my days picking it apart! anyway i love himym

… and this kids is proof HIMYM writers decided Robin was never going to love Ted back in ep 7.17 which makes the series ending way funnier.

If this were real life, I’d absolutely believe Robin would be stupid and lonely enough at 49 years old to give Ted another chance and realize one year in the relationship she made the same mistake again and break Ted’s heart again in 2031.

But since this is a comedy show the ending makes no effing sense. The writers just wanted to be cool and use shots they planned 7 years before instead of writing a sensible conclusion to 10 years of character development.

It had been a couple of weeks since Lily and Robin had found out about your crush on Barney and surprisingly, they still hadn’t told Barney.

Yes, you’d made them promise not to breathe a word of it but the fact that Lily hadn’t even told Marshall was impressive.

Everyone had agreed to go down to MacLaren’s that evening and you were half looking forward to it but also half dreading it.

Of course, you’d seen Barney over the past couple of weeks but he’d not mentioned you wingwomaning him at all and that was strange for you – usually Barney would’ve wanted to go out at least three times per week but he’d clearly decided to have a break.

Heading down to MacLaren’s you saw everyone already in the usual booth and there was a drink waiting for you.

“I could get used to this kind of service,” you commented as you slid into your spot next to Barney.

Marshall laughed whilst Barney slid an arm over the back of your seat. “Don’t thank us, it was Barney that brought it over.”

You looked at Barney with surprise on your face. “You feeling nice tonight?”

He shrugged, smirking towards you as he took a sip of his drink.

The night was going pretty well until something caught Ted’s eye.

“When you’re next up at the bar Barney, there’s a blonde in red who has been staring at you every time you move.”

Barney chuckled and you were just waiting for the suggestion of you going to chat to the girl and get her over to the group so Barney could work his charm.

“I’m not feeling it tonight man,” Barney stated as he shifted somewhat uncomfortably.

Everyone else turned to him in complete shock – when was Barney not up for chatting up a girl, the answer was never.

Barney sighed, rolling his eyes. “Why are you all looking at me like that?”

“Did I just hear that Barney Stinson doesn’t want to go and work his magic?” Marshall questioned with a smirk on his face.

You noticed the look exchange between Lily and Robin before they fixed you with a look, you knew exactly what they were trying to suggest but you just couldn’t believe it.

“Uh…I need a drink!” Lily suddenly announced, standing up. “Robin? Y/N? Join me?”

Sighing you got up and followed Lily to the bar – you noticed the girl that Ted had mentioned, and you couldn’t deny that she was stunning.

“Please tell me I’m not the only one that has realised,” Lily sounded exasperated as she spoke.

Robin laughed slightly but nodded in agreement. “We all know Barney, since when does he ignore a girl being interested.”

You sighed again and shrugged. “He didn’t seem to want to go out recently either, just kept saying we should go for dinner somewhere instead.”

Those words caught the attention of both the girls opposite you.

Lily looked at Robin, seemingly exchanging thoughts through their glances before they both turned to you.

“He knows,” they stated together.

Shaking your head, you blatantly disagreed with them. “How would he? Neither of you have said anything and we know how observant he is.”

Lily giggled but smiled knowingly. “I don’t know how he knows but he knows.”

Sighing for the third time, you decided not to listen to them anymore and went back over to the booth.

Barney slipped his arm back around you but this time he leant down to whisper in your ear. “How about we get out of here?”

Despite being confused at where exactly he wanted to go you nodded, saying goodbye to your friends and letting Barney slip your coat on for you.

He offered you his arm once you got outside and you took it but then looked at him in confusion.

“Where exactly are we going? You never want to leave MacLaren’s early, let alone when there’s some girl after you.”

He chuckled but shook his head slightly. “I never want to leave MacLaren’s early because you always want to stay later, some girl being after me doesn’t make much difference to me anymore.”

You stopped walking and continued to look at him with confusion written across your face.

“Do you really want to know?” he questioned with a sigh and at your nod he took a deep breath. “I heard you, that night you bailed on me, I heard what you were saying to Lily and Robin.”

At his words your mouth dropped open and you didn’t want to believe him.

“I heard you telling them you couldn’t compare to the girls I end up with, that you couldn’t change me, that it wouldn’t work out well,” he seemed to rush out of his words. “And I wanted to get you out of that pub so I could prove you wrong.”

You shook your head, not wanting to admit that he had heard you, not wanting to admit that he knew.

He sighed, pulling you into a hug and he couldn’t help but smile at the way you automatically wrapped your arms around him.

The two of you stood for a few moments – you not being sure what to say and Barney having said all he wanted to say.

When you slowly pulled back to look up at the man, you’d called your best friend for years, the smile on his face and the look in his eyes told you all you needed.

He had changed, he’d been that way for a long time.

All because of you.
