The Bocksten Man
Introduction
The case about the Bocksten Man might seem mundane at first glance; the murder was committed sometime during the 12th century, neither the victim nor the murderer is known and the method of killing was not unusual. However, the Bocksten Man is now displayed at the Varberg County Museum in Sweden since his body is one of the most well-preserved in Europe. The Bocksten Man’s liver, brain, cartilage, and parts of his lungs are preserved, and even his hair and clothing are intact.
Who was the Bocksten Man?
By examining the Bocksten Man’s teeth, odontologist Gunnar Johansson concluded that the victim was around 25-30 years old when he died. His place of birth is unknown, but he spent at least one year in Varberg before he was killed. The victim was around 170 cm, he did not have a lot of muscle mass and was of slender build. His profession has been debated, but one theory is that the Bocksten Man was a priest. This theory was based on the hood he was wearing, which was common clothing within the church. Another indicator of his profession is a symbol on his shield, which according to amateur historian Owe Wennerholm depicts a cross. Even if the Bocksten Man was not a priest, most historians agree that he was of higher social class, which is based on the fact that he did not have a lot of muscle mass.
How did he die?
According to professor Claes Lauritzen, the Bocksten Man was beaten to death. The murder weapon is not known, but Lauritzen believes that a pole could have been used in the murder. The victim was hit across his lower jaw, right ear and was then killed by being hit in the back of his head.
The impalement
When the Bocksten Man was found in 1936, 600 years after his death, he was impaled with three poles. One had been lodged in his heart, the second above his hip and the third had only ripped the victim’s clothing. Impaling corpses were probably common during this era, since people believed that impaling the dead would prevent the corpse from becoming a ghost.

Princess Adrienne’s duchy is really the smallest?
After the announcement of Princess Adrienne’s duchy last Monday, some articles were saying she got the second smallest duchy/province there is in Sweden. Some people also said it was fitting because, after all, she’s 10th in line to the Swedish throne. But others started complaining and saying it was a shitty one.
So, I got to think. Is there really anything related to that fact? Did all the other kids got duchies accordingly to their succession places?
Let me get one thing straight: it’s not a competition of who gets the bigger ones. The King chose them and his children accepted them. I just looked it out of curiosity to see if this argument holds.
So, first things first. Sweden is actually grouped in three parts: Götaland (South), Svealand (Center), Norrland (North). And in those three parts, there are 25 provinces (landskap) that the King decides to ‘give’ to one of his children or grandchildren when they’re born.
I first wanted to know which counties were in each division. In bold there’s the duchies already in use and in italic ones are those which never had a duke or a duchess. So we got:
- Götaland: Blekinge, Bohuslän, Dalsland, Gotland, Halland, Skåne, Småland, Västergötland, Öland and Östergötland. (5 out of 10 duchies in use).
- Svealand: Dalarna, Närke, Södermanland, Uppland, Värmland, Västmanland. (3 out of 6 duchies in use).
- Norrland: Ångermanland, Gästrikland, Hälsingland, Härjedalen, Jämtland, Lappland, Medelpad, Norrbotten, Västerbotten. (3 out of 9 duchies in use).
So, I searched and searched for the area and population of each province and the numbers differ from a source to another. I’ll get the one that is closest in numbers to all the others I saw. And since Madeleine has two duchies, I won’t separate them. Our numbers are:
Tumblr media
If we were to rank them for it’s area (which is what’s causing all this conversation), it’d be something like this:
Tumblr media
We can see above that yes, Princess Adrienne got the smallest duchy. But I was surprised to see that neither Crown Princess Victoria or Prince Carl Philip hold the biggest ones, even though Carl Philip  was born Crown Prince. His is bigger than Victoria’s, but way smaller than his son’s. I was also bothered that all the girls are so far down. And we can see that there’s no girl holding bigger duchies than boys. They all got big ones.
Now let’s see if we rank them by population how this list would be?
Tumblr media
was more pleased to see we’ve got the girls a bit more up in the rank than the previous one. And I can’t deny that the King found a way to give Carl Philip’s sons big duchies either in area (for Gabriel) or in population (for Alexander).
And, back to the topic, Princess Adrienne stays in 10th place if we rank her in the succession line, also in 10th place by the size of her duchy, but then she’s a 7th if we rank her by the population of Blekinge. So, I don’t really think people should be calling it a shitty one. It’s fitting at least. Her sister, who was born 5th in line and now is 8th, wasn’t given a bigger duchy back then. The same can’t be said about their brother, though…
It’s also important to note that I only organized them by the number of area and population and didn’t explore it’s economical influence in Sweden’s economy because that’s way too much to search. But each and every county/province has it’s value and it’s richness in culture.
And now, because I had so much fun doing this, let’s compare the other duchies that are left. This will be easier for guessing when they announce another baby for the family (and yes, I’m hoping for at least two more babies). The one underlined belonged to Prince Bertil and Princess Lilian and I don’t believe it’ll be used anytime soon. The bold one belonged to the King when he was just a Prince.

So, I hope you guys enjoy reading this. Because I sure enjoyed myself putting it together.

Malmö to host groundbreaking textile recycling plant
Tumblr media
The world's first automatic textile recycling facility is built in Malmö, in a major step forward in the move towards bringing a circular economy to one of the world's most environmentally damaging industries.
The facility, which uses optic sensors to identify different textile types, jhas been opened in summer 2020 next to the existing recycling centre in Malmö's Northern Harbour, the IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute said in a statement.
Maria Elander, who is leading the project for IVL, told the Sydsvenskan newspaper that industrialised sorting was “the missing link between collection and quality recycling”.
“Automatic sorting processes are required to be able to efficiently sort the large amounts of textile rubbish which cannot be recycled and which is not suitable for fibre to fibre recycling,” she said.
The aim is to use the recycled textiles to make padding, insulation, and cloth for industrial cleaning, slowly increasing the amount of textiles recycled from 3,000 to 16,000 tonnes over five years.
The facility will be operated by Sysav[1], the recycling company owned by 14 municipalities in Skåne[2], which today operates the site.
The project marks the third phase of the Swedish Innovation Platform for Textile Sorting (Siptex)[3], and comes after a successful pilot project in Avesta[4].
The platform is a joint venture between the Swedish Environmental Research Institute[5] and 21 other partners, including major Swedish fashion chains, and local municipalities, and has received 22m SEK in funding from Sweden's state R&D agency Vinnova[6].
Elander told Sydsvenskan that Malmö's position close to European markets made it a good location.
“Malmö is strategically well situated in the Öresund region[7] with a relatively large number of inhabitants and large amounts of waste,” she said. “In addition, it is close to Danish quantities of textile waste. The closeness to the continent is important.”
Elander said that Sysav would be paid to recycle some of the waste, but would also pay to receive higher quality textiles.

Anxiety effectively treated with exercise
Anxiety effectively treated with exercise
Both moderate and strenuous exercise alleviate symptoms of anxiety, even when the disorder is chronic, a study led by researchers at the University of Gothenburg shows. The study, published in the Journal of Affective Disorders, is based on 286 patients with anxiety syndrome, recruited from primary care services in Gothenburg and the northern part of Halland County. Half of the patients had…
