Walltown Crags Turret of Hadrian's Wall dated to the 2nd Century CE in England

This location provides long, panoramic views, a perfect location for a watch tower on Hadrian's Wall. Such towers, or turrets, were usually placed two to every Roman mile (about 1.48 km), for the comfort of small units of soldiers. Although the foundations of this turret and those of the wall are continuous, the two structures meet in straight joints above foundation level.

This prompted the suggestion, not universally accepted, that this turret originated as a free standing signal tower during the early stages of the building of Hadrian's Wall. Its location would have givern long views for signally to the Roman forts at Haltwhistle Burn (4 km east) and Carvoran (1 km south west) and possibly to signal towers at Gillalees Beacon (11.25 km north) and Pike Hill (10 km west).

The new single, Herlaþing is out now worldwide on all digital media stores!

The title, Herlaþing (pronounced Herlathing) is the Old English name for The Wild Hunt which is present in thefolklore of various northern European cultures. Wild Hunts are led by a mythological figure escorted by a ghostly group of hunters engaged in a pursuit. The leader of the hunt is often a named figure such as Odinin Norse legends, Woden in Anglo Saxon legends, but could also be a historical or legendary figure like Theodoric the Great, the Danish king Valdemar Atterdag, the Welsh mythological king Gwyn ap Nudd, or even the Devil. One Northumbrian local legend speaks of the Wild Hunt appearing at Haltwhistle and over Hadrian’s Wall. Herlaþing is the 1st single from the upcoming studio album, Se Scriðe of Þæs Tinan (The Course of the Tyne)
