Hamadryas laodamia, the starry night cracker or starry cracker.
Fact from  Learn about butterflies: The butterflies are commonly known as Crackers due to the ability of the males of several species to produce a sound similar to the crackling of bacon in a frying pan. The sound is produced as the butterflies take off, and is made by twanging a pair of spiny rods at the tip of the abdomen against bristles on the anal claspers. Only males can produce the sound, but both sexes can detect it - their wings have tiny hollow cells covered in membranes that vibrate in response to sound, and stimulate nerve endings. The purpose of the sound is not known. It may possibly deter competing males from occupying the same territory, or could act as a trigger to initiate the first response from a female during courtship.

Kairii (Private Eye: Miss Butterfly WIP)
Race: Irkon
Pronouns: She/Her
Summary: Kairii grew up with her two fathers and her three younger siblings in a rural county outside of the capital city. She moved to the capital to pursue opportunities and became a private investigator with a team of friends. She sends most of her savings to her family to help her siblings reach their dreams.
Kairii tends to be short-tempered, but her anger burns out quickly and she forgives easily. She’s sensitive, excitable, and loves beautiful things. She despises violence and conflict of any sort, but she loves untangling mysteries. She is the self-proclaimed mom of her friend group.
Kairii is aromantic and asexual. As the protagonist of the WIP series Private Eye: Miss Butterfly, she won’t have any love interests, and the series will focus on her crime-solving, adventures, and friendships.
Appearance: Kairii is modelled after a starry night cracker butterfly (Hamadryas laodamia), vaguely humanoid in a fae sort of way, and the bulk of her body is formed of mossy rocks and minerals. 4′11″ in height, tall for an Irkon.

Dragon: Laodamia - Skydancer Fae XYX Male
(Fae scroll applied on 2019-02-14) (Contour scroll applied on 2019-02-14)
Purchased For: 75 gems Hatched On: 2019-02-14 ID: 49360663
Parentage: Nyx/Aristotle Flight: Shadow
Primary: Obsidian Metallic Secondary: Eggplant Constellation Tertiary: Obsidian Glimmer Contour Eyes: Uncommon
Comments: Been thinking for a while now that I’d like a constellation-winged butterfly fae, so of course I’ve been checking for suitable base dragons since the lair expansion went live. This guy popper up today, and I love how his eggplant wings go with his shadow eyes. A bit higher up into the purple range than I was originally thinking, but that’s fine, it just means his mate can be somewhere in the orange range (or even the first couple of orangey-browns).
Ideally I want his mate to be wasp with something like alloy, facet, or butterfly, maybe iridescent and/or shimmer. Not bee since I already have a pile of bee-winged XYX of obsidian dragons. And depending on the secondary gene, I’ll either go with ghost (butterfly) or crackle (everything else).
He’s named based on Hamadryas laodamia, the Starry Night Cracker butterfly.
