She could see him from across the banquet hall screwing around with the dark order. Brandon was with them, camera pointed at the group while they tried their best to get through their BTE segment without laughing. They were playing a card game of some kind, sitting around a folding table. He was sitting chest to chair back, one arm across the curve of it, staring thoughtfully at the cards in his other hand. His tongue poked out and ran along his lips. She could hear someone - Uno probably, though she couldn’t be sure because her eyes were preoccupied - say something that made the entire group giggle, which immediately brought the most beautiful smile to his face. He was absolutely beaming. And to make matters worse, he cocked his head to the side, leaning it sleepily on his arm.
Wow, she thought, looking back down at her book. She had held it up to her face while she gazed at him. He is so fucking pretty. Too bad he’s literally never noticed me ever.
And then she felt it.
The feeling in the back of her spine, at the base of her neck. The little tug at her mind that begged her to pay attention.
Shh! It said. Somebody's watching you.
She looked up, horrified but curious.
Bright eyes met her dark ones. The color was unfathomable from the distance, but she had heard him say it once in an interview. They were green. If she had to describe them, though, they were ocean eyes. Sometimes bright blue, sometimes green, sometimes grey or almost brown, depending on the colors that surrounded him. The colors that he reflected. Just like the ocean.
Her eyes widened. Fuck.
Fuck fuck fuck.
He was looking at her.
What the fuck.
He didn’t seem to notice her mental breakdown. He ran his tongue across his lips again, and she could feel something deep in the pit of her stomach. John was next to him, flexing his bulging biceps at Brandon’s camera. All the men of the dark order were entranced, ogling him. Meanwhile, this one, the handsome one with the green eyes, was staring at her.
Her heart was racing. She wondered if anyone could hear it.
She pulled her book back up to her face, breaking eye contact. “That’s enough risk-taking for one day,” she mumbled to herself.
“Raquel ‘Kelly’ Montero, you are a professional wrestler.” A voice from behind took her by surprise. She whirled around and dropped her book with an echoing thud, catching the attention of everyone in the open banquet hall. She reached for her book, embarrassed by her lack of poise, and tried not to think about how he was probably looking at her again right now. She looked up, finding the familiar face of Jon Moxley, looking particularly amusing with one of those baby carrier thingies strapped across his chest, a chubby little Nora in tow. “Now what could possibly be more tied to taking risks than that?”
Kelly’s mouth formed a thin line. Was she gonna tell him? No. She couldn’t. This wasn’t something you just tell a guy. Certainly not her best friend’s guy. She could just hear Renee in her head: I cannot believe you told Jon before you told me!!
“I—“
“It’s Hangman, isn’t it.” He said it so dryly it didn’t even feel like a question. As if the question was just a courtesy. Nora babbled at the sound of his voice.
“How did you—“
“—Renee.”
“But I haven’t even told Renee yet!”
“I don’t know what to tell you. But she knows.”
Kelly sighed in exasperation. Unbelievable. She pulled on the duffel bag beneath her chair, figuring it was probably best to put her book away for now, and zipped it back up.
“Why don’t you just talk to him?”
She shook her head so quickly she was surprised it didn’t twist off. “No. Absolutely not.”
“Fine. Look, I’m not one to talk because I usually don’t fuckin’ talk or give a shit, but I’m trying to reason this out from your level.” He motioned for her to scoot a bit so he could sit on the edge of her chair, and she obliged him, giving Nora her index finger while he continued. “He’s a locker room leader. Came with the title. You gotta say hello. It’s common practice and everyone will think you’re a piece of shit if you don’t.”
Raquel squirmed. He had a point. It’d been a few weeks and she still hadn’t had the guts to shake his hand. That probably looked bad to somebody, and she couldn’t handle that kind of judgement. She groaned, making Nora’s eyes go wide. “Sorry, sweetie.” And then to Jon: “Fine, but I’m gonna be mad about it.”
She closed her eyes for a few seconds to calm herself and steel her nerves, but she realised the longer she took the more she tried to talk herself out of it. “Fuck. Okay. Fuck it.” She launched herself off the chair.
“Atta girl.”
Before she could even think, she was halfway across the banquet hall and she could almost see the grassy green of his eyes. Hahaha, oh shit.
“Hey, Kelly,” Brandon looked out from beneath his camera and waved. “We were just finishing up a BTE segment for next week.”
“Oh, hey, Brandon!” she mentally smacked herself for sounding as if she just noticed him when she had in fact been gunning in his and the dark order’s direction. She suddenly felt exposed and awkward. “I actually came to introduce myself? I realised I haven’t even met everyone and I’ve already been with y’all a few weeks.”
Brandon smiled and nodded. “Yeah, sure, lemme help you with that. Everyone, this is Kelly Montero, she’s one of TK’s newest acquisitions.” The members of the dark order took turns saying hello and shaking her hand, while Brandon told her their names. “And this,” he said, gesturing towards Hangman, “is our AEW world champion, Hangman Page.”
It was the first moment she allowed herself to look him in the eyes again. He stood up from his chair, beautiful green eyes meeting hers as he reached for her hand. “That introduction was embarrassing, I’m so sorry,” he said, and tripped over his chair. He sighed, pulling himself together. “That, too.”
She laughed, attempting a second time to shake his hand. Kelly noted his hand was a bit rough, but not in a way that was unpleasant. “Hi, Hangman. Nice to meet you.” She shyly pulled a strand of hair from her face and tucked it behind her ear.
“Oh, don’t-it’s Adam. Just Adam.”
“Okay. Adam.”
He seemed pleased. It was only then that Kelly realised they were still holding hands, and pulled away, blushing. A small smile played on his lips. She wondered if it meant something.
“Uh, Brandon called you Kelly, is that really your name?”
At this point, everyone in the dark order had stopped paying attention to her, talking amongst themselves while Brandon sat down across from them to survey his footage.
“It’s…Raquel, actually. But everyone calls me Kelly.”
Adam’s eyebrows furrowed as he gestured toward the chair John had vacated beside him, and her heart leapt. She sat down next to him as he spoke. “Do you prefer Kelly?”
She squirmed in her seat, rubbing the palm of her hand with the opposite thumb. She couldn’t bear to look at his eyes anymore. It was like being completely and totally exposed. It was horrifying. And yet, somehow, it was the most she’d felt in her soul in years. “Actually, I hate being called Kelly. I just let them because people say Raquel is hard to say?” She shrugged. “I dunno, it’s just always been like that.” An awkward laugh erupted out of her. “I don’t even know why I’m telling you this? You don’t even know me.”
Adam smiled, leaning back in his chair. He looked positively mesmerizing, splayed out on his chair like a lazy house cat. He did that little thing she’d noticed before, where his head cocked to the side and rested on his arm. “Maybe not. But…” he paused, catching her eyes, “...I’d like to, if that’s okay.”
She blinked. Twice, three times. Finally, “Uh. Yeah. Yeah, definitely.”
From his back pocket, he pulled out his phone. He started typing. “Ra….quel. Mon. Tero. Parenthesis, Not…Kelly. Close Parenthesis.” He handed it over to her. “Here.”
She took the phone shyly into her hands, forcing herself not to notice that their fingers had brushed and a fire had lit beneath her skin. Staring at the little screen, she smiled, a small moment of curiosity flashing across her face. Wetting her lips, “You spelled my name right.”
“I did?” He sighed, his mouth animatedly turning into a circle and letting out air, “that’s great because I feel like I embarrassed myself enough today.” They both laughed.
“You? Embarrassing? Nuh uh, no way. Champions don’t get embarrassed!” Raquel flirted, mentally kicking herself for allowing herself to be one of those girls. But wait. Literally why shouldn’t I be? Who cares?
While Raquel battled herself on whether it was okay to flirt, Adam answered her bashfully, scratching at the base of his neck. “Well, you’d be surprised.” He pulled himself out of his resting position, making to stand. “Guess there’s a lot about me you still need to find out.” His eyes brightened. Man, was he perfect. His golden curls framed his face in a way that could make a pageant girl jealous.
She stood up too, flattening out her skirt with her hands, cheeks flushing red. God. God! Then, “Oh! Wait.” She pulled out her phone, opened a new contact page, and handed it to him.
“Don’t trust me?” He joked. “Not like you don’t know where to find me.” His eyes gestured around them, then he smiled at her radiantly. Everything about him made her heart flutter.
“Whaaaaaat? No!” She smirked. “No, actually, I - I don’t answer strange numbers.” Her arms folded across her body.
“Oh,” he squinted at her, biting his lip. Amused. Flawless. “Reckon that makes sense.” He finished typing his contact in, handed it back.
She stared at her phone. Raised an eyebrow. “Man with No Name?”
He shrugged. “Well, y’know.”
“You really stick to that cowboy gimmick, don’t you?”
He focused on the ground, one of his caiman leather boots scuffing the floor. Tugged lightly on his belt loops. “Like gum on a boot.”
“Oh, my god.” She hid her face behind her hand.
He smiled. Looked back up at her. Moved a little closer. “What?”
The air had been sucked out of the room. Raquel tugged at her loose cardigan, suddenly very aware of the short distance between her mouth and his, a finger’s width away. She wondered if he could hear the loud thumping in her chest. Her eyes fluttered. She wouldn’t allow herself to look down at those lips he so often ran his tongue along, choosing instead to meet his eyes through her fingers.
She could scarcely speak, her voice but a whisper. “Nothing, I just —“
The moment was shattered by the wail of a baby. Turning away from Adam, Raquel’s eyes found Mox and Nora across the banquet hall. He looked to be arguing with her while she sobbed, red little cheeks painted with tears.
She turned back. “I better go help him. Renee’s busy with an interview.”
Adam’s eyebrows furrowed, eyes giving a hint of disappointment. As if maybe he enjoyed her company. Raquel didn’t want to relish that thought too much, for fear she was wrong.
By the time she reached them, Nora was full-on shrieking. If she wasn’t happy, nobody could be happy. “Mox, what did you DO to her?!”
A bag crinkled in his hands, and Raquel could see the brightly colored shape of gummy worms in the packaging. Mox pulled one out, bringing his hand back up towards his mouth, when Nora tried to reach. “I didn’t do nuthin’ but what I was told. Renee said no sugar for the baby.”
Raquel rolled her eyes, incredulous. “So you thought it was a good idea to dangle it in front of her?!” She reached for Nora as Mox sat down to help pull her out of the baby bjorn.
“Kid’s gotta learn you don’t always get whatchu want,” he mumbled as he bit the tail end (or was it the head?) of a gummy worm, “it’s an important life lesson.”
Nora settled the opposite of gently onto Raquel’s hip, still upset but immediately lowering her volume as she noticed the change of hands. Raquel beamed at Mox, who just rolled his eyes. “I guess she knows who her favorites are, don’t you, sweet pea?” she said, falling into a fit of baby talk.
“Hey, eh. None of that sh-well. None of that,” he said, waving another gummy worm in Raquel’s face, who ceased the baby talk. “Kid needs to learn to speak English.”
“Oh, boo to that,” Raquel said, shaking her pinkie in Nora’s little fist as they bobbed gently. The baby’s weight felt comfortable on her hip, like it was always meant to be there. “Also, you realise you already said the f-word and the s-word in front of her today, already, right?”
“Well, fuck it, then. So how’d it go?” Mox nodded, biting off the head (or tail?) of another worm, looking very bluntly in Adam’s direction with no sense of discretion whatsoever.
“Um. Okay?”
Mox scoffed. “Okay? Dude was smilin’ the entire time and phones were in hands. You’re tellin’ me that went just okay?”
Raquel sighed, rolling her eyes, but eventually giving way to a happy grin. Her voice went up a couple pitches but she tried to maintain control of her excitement by whispering. “I have his phone number! He has mine!”
“Oh my god, it’s a miracle,” he replied sarcastically.
Raquel frowned. Then, realised she’d forgotten something. “Thank you.”
“On account of?” He grinned at his baby, who began to squirm in Raquel’s grasp. Nora wanted her daddy back.
“Encouraging me.” Raquel sat down next to Mox, handing the baby over. “Here.”
“Yeah, yeah,” he said, “you’re welcome. But ol’ Mox can’t always be here to take care of you, ya know.”
Raquel smiled, nodding. “I know, I know.”
Mox held Nora up for a second, looked into her eyes and listened to her quiet babble. “Sometimes It’s gonna be Eddie.”
Which made Raquel burst into a fit of laughter.
Across the room, the cowboy’s ear perked up at the sound. He couldn’t help but feel like he wanted to hear that sound, again and again, and again, for the rest of his life.

The Sensitivity of Horses, Part 2
A sequel to this story, which you'll probably want to read although I don't think it's strictly speaking necessary to make sense of this one. Eagle-eyed readers will note that this is not the other story I posted an excerpt from earlier. That one is still coming. I was just in a Hangman mood.
Pairing: Hangman Adam Page x OFC
Word count: 1,338
Content advisory: sexual content (non-explicit)
You try to stay out of sight, mostly. It’s not entirely possible, of course, there are plenty of people who know who you are, although, you can’t help but notice, a lot who don’t. The place is growing. He’s part of something exciting, exactly like he deserves. No one is rude to you. You’d thought that maybe they would be but the worst you get is that some of them look at you funny, like you’re an old part being inserted into a new car. You don’t fit. You’ll screw everything up.
In private, they won’t be so cagey. They’ll laugh and whisper among themselves. What the hell is she even doing here? Didn’t he leave her? I knew she’d come back begging. Fair enough. You deserve their scorn. You deserve his.
Your first glimpse of Adam hits you in the gut. You knew it would but it’s still enough that you have to steady yourself against the wall. He’s still so beautiful that you can’t believe he was ever yours, let alone that you screwed things up. Oh how you screwed things up. He was feeling broken and you took a hammer to him but here he is now looking like a golden god with that title and his friends. So much better off without you. It’s incredibly selfish what you’re doing, showing up here.
It’s a while before he’s on his own, a while that you have to hide in the shadows because there’s no way you’re going to approach him when people who care about him are there. They’d throw you out on your head before you said more than a word to him, which is probably a good instinct. But eventually he’s left alone and in the open, grabbing himself a bottle of water from catering and that’s when you approach.
“Was starting to think you were just going to spy on me from a distance all night,” he sighs without looking up at you.
On top of everything, it hurts to know that you’ve been so clumsy and obvious.
“I thought about it,” you answer truthfully. “I wasn’t sure if it was a great idea for us to talk. Or for me to be around you at all.”
He shrugs. “It probably isn’t.”
That’s when he looks up and, once again, you feel your knees turn to water. Those big, vulnerable eyes, blue like a field of cornflowers, flash at you and all you want is to wrap him up under your wings and protect him, except that what you need to protect him from is you.
“I guess you’re here now,” he grumbles. “Might as well talk.”
He brushes past you and heads down the hall without another word and you trail after him. It would be better for both of you if you left. You shouldn’t walk with him into his dressing room. But you do.
He keeps his back to you when you enter and your eyes drift longingly over the curve of his perfect ass, which is when he glances back. He gives you a hard look before he drops onto the little sofa. He hasn’t had a match tonight. He hasn’t even had to get into his gear. But he still gives the impression of being exhausted.
“What’s up?”
“I… I brought the papers,” you stammer, reaching into your purse and taking out the hateful bundle.
“You couldn’t have just had your lawyer send them over?”
“I could have, yeah.”
He rolls his eyes and takes a long swig from the water bottle. His tongue swipes his lips quickly when he puts it down and you feel an immediate stirring in your core. He notices that too.
“Figured you’d be at home taking care of ol’ Kenny,” he smirks.
That shot lands. You deserve it.
“Do you seriously not know?”
He gives a mirthless half-laugh.
“I heard things didn’t work out with you two.”
“He dumped me about a month after you did.”
“Wow. Didn’t realize it was that quick. He really was just using you.”
Again, this is no more than you deserve.
“Yup. That’s exactly it. I couldn’t deal with what you were going through, so I had an affair with a guy who seemed like he might actually be interested in me, you found out, and as soon as Kenny realized he might actually have to be in a real relationship, he kicked me to the curb.”
Adam glances down but you still notice how his face twitches in anger. Is it at you? At Kenny? Is it possible that there’s still a part of him that hates to hear that you’ve been hurt?
You open your mouth to speak but he leans forward and snatches the divorce papers out of your hand before you can. He glances through them and, predictably, lets out an exasperated sound before tossing them on the table next to him.
“They don’t work if you don’t sign them,” he snorts.
“I know.” You can hear the wave of tears rising in your voice and focus on not giving in. You don’t want him to think that you’re trying to manipulate him by crying. “I just thought…”
He glares right at you, every emotion flowing through him in full view.
“I’m sorry,” you whisper. “I have a pen.”
You fumble through your bag until you find it and reach over to grab the papers, but he grabs hold of your arm before you can reach them. He holds you like that for a second before pressing his face against the inside of your arm, pulling you ever so slowly closer. The contrast of his soft lips and the coarse hairs of his beard sends every one of your nerves into overdrive. You feel yourself start to tip forward but he rescues you, wrapping an arm around your waist and pulling you onto his lap.
You can’t look at him, not yet, so you run your fingers lightly over his face and bury yourself in his neck. He squeezes your hips and lets his hands move just under the hem of your shirt. The feeling of his fingertips on your sensitive stomach sets you off and you kiss him, aggressively, with everything that you’ve been holding on to for the months you’ve been apart. The most terrifying thing is that he responds with just as much passion, even though he shouldn’t.
The familiar, thrilling feeling of his hardening prick through his jeans has you grinding yourself against him, and he responds by pushing his hands further up, over your bra, teasing your nipples until you think they’re going to cut right through the fabric.
“That what you came here for? You wanted a goodbye ride?”
“No,” you sob, giving into the need to cry, “I don’t want a goodbye anything.”
He leans back and wipes your face with his thumb.
“So what do you want?”
You let your hand drop and run over the outline of his belt buckle for a few minutes before answering.
“I want my husband to believe me when I say that I’m more than sorry, and that I would never do anything like what I did. Never again.”
He stares into you for a long moment before pulling you in to kiss you again. The taste of him is so comforting and at the same time so arousing that you just fall into it, losing yourself until he pulls back a little.
“I don’t know if I can do that,” he whispers, caressing your neck and collar bone.
He looks up at you again and nods a little.
“I understand,” you murmur.
With a deep breath, you start to push yourself away but his grip on you tightens. You lean down and press your lips to his again, running your palm roughly over the bulge in his pants and moaning softly into his kiss.
“I don’t know if I can forgive you,” he repeats, pulling away just slightly, “but I think I might want to try.

Things We Never Say

One more week. Just one week until everything Adam had ever worked for finally paid off. He was so close to the title that he could taste it, and this win over Matt Jackson was going to make the win that much sweeter. Matt had been pressing on more and more personal buttons for longer than he could track now and it was time to shut him up. And he almost had him now.
His emotions were running high but his determination was higher. The betrayal by Matt almost hurt more than Kenny’s and every drop kick, every boot, brought him closer to his closure. A neck breaker bought him the time and space he needed to get the the apron. The second Matt had shakily risen to his feet, Adam slingshot over the rope and caught him with the Buckshot Lariat, turning him inside out. Towering above Matt’s heaving frame, he savored the thunderous roar of the crowd with a fist in the air. But he wasn’t finished.
Hangman egged Matt on, daring him to get to his feet again - the Deadeye the perfect exclamation point for this win. He wanted Matt embarrassed and slinking to the back after everything they had been through. And he wanted to send a message to Kenny backstage: his championship reign was on borrowed time and Adam was ready to collect.
But as Matt began to stir, the enormous screen at the top of the stage fizzled away from the footage of their match, fading to black and pulling Adam’s attention away. It only took a beat for the screen to spring to life, a hallway backstage coming into view. He squinted at the screen as the picture came into focus, Kenny, Nick, and Adam Cole crowded around a figure on the ground, their voices a mess of taunts that he could hardly make out.
Adam’s thumb idly hooked into the waist of his trunks as he watched, Matt still squirming on the mat below him. But his blood ran cold when the boys stepped back enough to reveal who was laid out at their feet, stumbling back a step. Her long, dark hair was obscuring most of her face but he’d recognize her anywhere. Her soft features and tight jeans were unmistakeable. It had been almost a year to the day since he’d seen her; he had no idea she was in town, never mind backstage. His breath caught in his throat, a whirlwind of memories flooding his brain.
Adam flinched when Kenny delivered a sharp kick to her gut and she cried out in pain. His fists balled tight at his sides, watching helplessly as she attempted to shield herself to no avail. All three of the boys jeered as Nick ground the bottom of his foot into her face, leaving a shoe print across her cheek. Adam couldn’t stop himself from storming around the ring, his brain foggy with rage. Finally the camera panned back up, centering on Kenny’s smug expression.
“Poor, hopeless Hangman. Can’t get the big wins, can’t take home the title, can’t get the girl! Can’t even protect the people he cares about!” Kenny taunted, his brows drawn and his lips curled into a vindictive smirk. “Take a look at where years of failures have got you.”
The camera panned back down as Kenny squatted down over her, face down on the floor now and writhing as she gripped her stomach. Adam was paralyzed, all thoughts of his match and Matt a million miles from his brain. His breathing grated to a ragged pace, tongue sliding over his lips, when Kenny yanked hard at a handful of her hair, forcing her to look into the camera. He reached around with a spare hand and gripped her face, cheeks squeezed tight between his thick fingers.
“How’s it feel, knowing it’s your fault that she’s going to end up back on the shelf for good before she even got a chance to make that triumphant return?” He forcefully wagged her face as her eyes connected with the camera, her pain penetrating straight through to Hangman’s bones. Kenny aggressively shoved her back to the ground as the screen went dark again and Adam’s eyes strayed, catching movement from the corner of the ring at the last moment. It bought him just enough time to sidestep Matt’s superkick.
The situation rattled through every inch of him, a wave of guilt washed through with bubbling, red hot anger, and he snatched Matt by the throat. Adam easily hoisted him into the air, Matt’s eyes blowing wide in the brief moment before he was rammed against the ring post and sent tumbling out of the ring.
Adam didn’t stop to look at him or drag him back to officially end the match. He stormed his way back up the ramp, straight through the tunnel. The anger pulsing in his ears all but blocked out the sound of Tony Khan calling out to him in an attempt to calm him. But there was no breaking through his fog. His mouth was pushed into an unforgiving snarl as he whirled around the corner and Kenny’s arrogant face came into view at the end of a long hallway.
The boys were still hovering above her crumpled frame. Adam’s breath caught in his throat when he caught sight of her, legs curled defensively into herself. Kenny nudged her again with his foot, not having spotted Adam yet.
“You know, you really should have stuck with us, sweetheart.” Kenny taunted her and Adam moved toward them on autopilot, hardly aware of his movements anymore. “Was Hangman worth it? You could’ve had everything. You could’ve been woman’s champion, side by side with me as we dominated this company. But now look at you.” She fought against the sharp pain in her gut, pushing herself to sit up, her disgust written so plainly across her face that Adam could see it down the hall. “Your career is over and for what? Because of him? He turned his back on you all those months ago and now, when you need him, he’s nowhere to be seen.”
Kenny motioned for the boys to move her into place, holding her down on the ground as they trapped her arm in a steel chair. His heart slammed against his rib cage, watching as Kenny positioned himself over the chair. He raised his foot into the air when the sound of Adam’s heavy footsteps drawing closer had Kenny’s head snapping in his direction and a broad smile wrapped across his face.
“I spoke too soon. Apparently, he’s stupider than I thought.” Kenny turned to watch Hangman’s path toward them, her arm momentarily forgotten.
That’s when she finally caught sight of him, their eyes connecting across the hall and almost stopping him in his tracks. The emotion that stormed across her face was palpable, that same heart wrenching, devastated look from a year ago - fresh as if it had been yesterday. He swallowed hard, not aware of the way his steps began to drag. He also didn’t realize that Nick had closed the distance between them, the feeling of his fist colliding with his mouth being his first clue.
Adam stumbled back a step before blinking back to reality, attention forcefully torn from her face. And it only took a moment for two years of frustration to bubble to the surface. The disappointment, the pain, the betrayal. The regret - so much regret. He bitterly wiped a knuckle across his lip, smearing blood across his hand. His eyes flicked up, connecting with Nick’s for a loaded second, danger flashing brightly enough for Nick to step a half step back. But it wasn’t enough, Adam lurched forward and grabbed his shirt with one hand, fist cracking against his cheek with the other.
Nick went to crumble but Adam didn’t allow it, holding him up as he fired off another three punches before letting him collapse. Adrenaline pumping heavy under his skin, he didn’t stop in his path, charging forward and knocking Cole onto his ass. His boot made a satisfying thud when he jammed it into his stomach, the noise driving him to kick over and over. Twice to his stomach, once against his back when he tried to squirm away, then followed up by a stomp on his arm, a sickening crack reverberating up Adam’s leg. His discipline had slipped away completely and there was nothing stopping him now as he turned his attention to Kenny, nerves in his eyes as he attempted to back away from the situation.
Adam’s pace was eerily slow now as he stalked toward Kenny until he attempted to break away. One hand around his throat, Adam slammed him against the brick wall, a hoarse croak passing his lips as he struggled to breathe.
“You’re one stupid mother fucker.” Adam’s voice was a ragged growl and Kenny stammered emptily for a response. “You think you can put your greasy hands on her and get away with it?” Kenny attempted to get his hands up in between them but Adam’s fist drove hard into his gut and all he could manage was an attempt to double over, the breath pushed out of his lungs. But Adam didn’t grant him a reprieve, punishing him again and again until his knuckles were busted open and staining Kenny’s tee. “You don’t get to fucking touch her. Do you hear me?”
A delicate hand, crooked around his elbow, stopped his onslaught, and he let Kenny drop, whirling on his heel. He hadn’t heard her get to her feet or the way she had silently padded over to him. But her, suddenly inches from him, after all these months, had his heart seizing in his chest. His hand shook when he reached between them to brush her hair behind her ear before cradling her face. She allowed herself the briefest moment to lean into it before snapping out of the daze he always left her in, and shaking her head with a step back. She had only wanted to stop him from going too far; she had no intention of sticking around to be drawn back into his gravity field. She spent years there, she couldn’t go back.
“Darlin’…” His honeyed voice wasn’t much more than a breath passed between them. He’d missed her so much more than he knew how to express. He’d picked up the phone every night since she left, daring himself to call her - to apologize for that night - but the few times he’d been drunk enough to manage it, she didn’t answer. When she took another step away, shaking her head all the while, as if to remind herself of her decision, he took a step toward her. “Darlin’…” He repeated. “Please. Just talk to me…I’m sorry.” His apology was months late, though, and they both knew it.
“It’s late, Adam. I need to go.” Her voice was hoarse and thick with emotion.
“At least let me get you over to see Doc Sampson. You really need to get your ribs looked at.” A glance down at where her shirt had ridden up was all it took to see the bruise that was already beginning to form on her skin. She hastily pushed it back down, shaking her head.
“I’m fine. I just want to get back to my hotel and forget about this entire night.” This entire year was more like it but there was no point. Her memories of the past year were seared into her brain. “Coming back was a mistake.” Offers from other companies were ever-present and ever-tempting. She’d been stupid to pretend there was anything left here for her; her friends were long gone and it was time to accept it.
But he’d watched her turn and leave before - watched her walk away for months. And the sickly feeling in his stomach told him that if he let her walk away this time, it would be the last. He couldn’t let this be the last time he saw her. And so his hand shot out before he could even pause to consider the action, wrapping around her elbow and sending a jolt so powerful through her skin that it stopped her in her tracks.
“Let me drive you back.” He held her gaze and she went to voice her protests but he stopped her. “It wasn’t a request, doll.” Her lips pressed together tight, eyes narrowed. She glanced from his face, brow heavy and eyes trying to communicate everything he didn’t know how to voice, to his large hand wrapped around her arm. A slow nod was all she could manage and he let out a sigh of relief.
It wasn’t over yet. The hotel was ten minutes away. He had ten minutes to convince her not to leave again - to finally put words to the way he’d felt since they met back in ROH all those years back. Everything he’d been too scared to admit, even to himself, until it was too late.
She waited for him to change out of his ring gear before they headed out. They moved in silence to his rental car, his hand hovering by her lower back, desperate to feel that spark again but worried about pushing his luck too far. He opened her door for her and she hesitated before finally sliding into the passenger seat. As he came around to the drivers side, the tightness in her chest made her wonder why she was doing this. She had promised herself she wasn’t going to fall into this trap but in the end, it hadn’t taken more than his hand on her to sway her into hearing him out.
Sitting down, his eyes were drawn to her, unable to help but notice the way her seatbelt was still unbuckled and her fingers were curled around the door handle, ready to bolt at a moment’s notice. He clicked his belt into place, hoping it would encourage her to follow suit but she didn’t budge, eyes trained on the dashboard. The air in the car was suffocatingly quiet, a million unsaid words clouding the space between them. He wanted to start the car but couldn’t force his hands to move into position; couldn’t take his eyes off her. His tongue slid across his lips anxiously, hoping some words, any words, would come to him.
“I’ve missed you.” His gruff voice shattered the silence and her head snapped to him, expression softer than she would have liked. But her words were caught in her throat. She’d missed him too, whether or not she wanted to admit it. No matter how many times she told herself she needed to keep her distance, she would only be lying to herself if she said he wasn’t half the reason she was back here. “Things aren’t the same without you around.”
“Well you told me to stay away, Adam.” Her voice was quiet, not quite cold, but he flinched regardless. He’d been drunk when he said that - drunk and feeling abysmally sorry for himself - but that was no excuse. She was the only one that stayed by his side when the Elite fractured; the only one that tried to save him from himself. But he couldn’t stop from pushing her away too. Kenny had beaten him in his number one contenders match and Hangman spiraled hard. He hadn’t deserved her loyalty and it had suffocated him until he couldn’t breathe, until he snapped under the pressure to be worthy of it. “I was just doing what you told me.”
“I’m sorry, darlin’.” His sincerity was undeniable and she swallowed hard, studying the subtle curves of his face as if she would ever be able to forget them. Even in the darkness of the evening, moonlight showcasing his silhouette, he looked better than he had the last time they spoke. The bags under his eyes were noticeably relieved, that sunken look all but washed away. Maybe her time away had been good. Maybe he’d been better off without her. She forced her eyes back to the dashboard, chest clenched. “I regret saying that the moment you left. I tried to go after you but you were already gone.”
“Well I didn’t see the point in sticking around when I was clearly not wanted.” Her voice was notably more bitter that time. She’d thought about the things she would say to him a hundred times since she went back home. Some days it was all she thought about. Sometimes it played out that she yelled until her throat ached - telling him that he was an idiot for sending away the only person left that cared. Sometimes she broke down and admit how much he’d hurt her, how she was in love with him and had been for as long as she could remember; how she thought he might have felt the same way only to have him throw it all back in her face. Every day ended the same though - with her ignoring his missed calls and pretending her life felt right without him.
“I was an idiot.” He admit. “I couldn’t see past the end of my glass and I said so many things I didn’t mean. I care so much about you, darlin’, you have to know that.” He couldn’t physically stop himself from reaching across and brushing his knuckles down the length of her arm, sending fizzles of electricity through her skin. She jerked away from him, clutching the door handle tight in her hand. She couldn’t let him use their connection to make her forgive and forget. “I am so sorry if I made you doubt that.”
“If?” Her voice cracked on the word, head swiveling back to him, and he swallowed hard. “Adam, you couldn’t have been more clear. You told me that we were only even friends because of Kenny. You told me outright that I was stupid for following you around after they left you. You said I should have accepted when Kenny asked me out - when you knew - you knew -“ she couldn’t continue the sentence, anger and hurt wringing her dry. “You told me I needed to get a life and stay out of yours. There was no ‘if’ about it. You told me yourself that you didn’t care about me. No room for doubt.”
Adam ruffled a hand through his hair, head falling back against the headrest. His words had been on repeat in his head since they left his mouth but it was infinitely harder hearing them come from hers.
“I don’t…I…” He stammered, tongue sliding across his lip. “I don’t know what to say. I’m just so fucking sorry.”
She shook her head, leaning way back in her seat, and crossing her arms over her chest. It didn’t matter anymore. The damage was done.
“Can we just go? I’m tired and I have an early flight tomorrow.” She muttered dismissively. Adam didn’t miss that she hadn’t accepted his apology. She wouldn’t even look at him. He was going to need to do a lot better than that and was starting to understand that a ten minute drive might not be enough to undo the damage he had done.
He started the car with a sigh, taking one last lingering look at her before pulling out of the parking lot and attempting to focus on the road. The tension crept back in quickly and she let her gaze wander over to his hands gripped tight around the wheel, veins raised and straining against his skin.
Minutes passed in a stifling quiet before he couldn’t hold back any more. He didn’t have the time to wait for a better opportunity. If he didn’t push his luck, he was going to miss his chance.
“It wasn’t about you…not really.” His voice drew her attention up from where she was fiddling with her hands. When she didn’t respond, he pressed on. “I was so twisted up, darlin’. I felt…toxic. I didn’t want my failures to poison you too. So I said anything I could to drive you away.” Her breathing faltered, coming out shaky, and she reached a hand up to her lips, fingers feathering across them. He spared a glance at her to gauge her reaction. But her head was spinning.
“You were never toxic…” Was all she could manage, barely even audible beyond her fingers. Hangman almost mustered a half smile at that but ended up closer to a grimace.
“Not sure there’s anything in the world that could have convinced me of that.” He riffled a hand through his hair, trying to push past the walls that kept trying to form around his vulnerability. “I knew you deserved better than the worthless pile of self destruction that I’d become. I was only going to drag you down.”
“Adam…” She breathed out.
“I’m not tryin’ to make excuses, I just wanted to explain myself…explain that it was always because I wasn’t good enough. Not because you…” He cut himself off and she blinked, waiting for the rest of the sentence that never came. His hands flexed around the wheel as they came to a stoplight, the colors shining across her face. He’d never gotten used to how striking she was; his breath had stopped short in his chest when he first saw her and that never really stopped. “I never wanted to hurt you.”
And she believed him. Even at her lowest moments, at her most angry, she never believed he actually wanted to cause that much pain. He was drunk and callous but he was still her Adam.
She could feel her defenses eroding with every passing second and it was exactly what she had been worried about. She’d always been so susceptible to Adam’s exact brand of charm and sincerity. It was why she told herself to keep her distance now that she was back but she should have known that was never going to be possible. Hell, she was surprised that ignoring his calls worked for as long as it did. He was all too liable to show up on her front step with those puppy dog eyes and that smile that made her stomach hurt, to convince her to forgive him.
“It’s been miserable without you.” He pressed. She hadn’t been saying much during this conversation and her face was too hard for him to read in this lighting. He assumed that no response was better than yelling but, at this point, he would have taken the yelling just for some clarity.
“You look like you’ve been doing okay for yourself.” It wasn’t a yell. She was exceedingly calm. He swallowed hard, giving another swipe of his tongue across his lips in that way she couldn’t look away from. “Almost seem like you’re better off since I left.” Those words came out a bit more strangled than she’d meant to. She was happy he was doing better - she just hated to think that she had been the thing holding him back all this time.
He gaped at her, the idea that he’d been better in any way in her absence was beyond foreign to him. These had been the longest, most difficult months of his career - none of it felt right without her.
“I don’t…I mean, yeah I’ve finally got my career back on track but that’s not because you’re gone. If anything, it’s in spite of it.” He struggled to keep his eyes on the road as he spoke, needing these words to really reach her. “It took me almost a full year to get back to where I started when you left. I guarantee you, if you’d been by my side all this time, I would have gotten here six months ago.”
“Adam-“ Her tone was dismissive and he cut her off before she could protest.
“Don’t ‘Adam’ me! You have been pushing me to be the best version of myself for years now. And I was punishing myself when I said those things to you - so caught up in hating myself that I ruined the one thing in my life that was ever really worth a damn.” He’d gotten louder and wasn’t sure when that started to happen. He just couldn’t let her think that any of this bullshit meant anything without her. “I can’t tell you how many times I picked up the phone after a big match because the only person in the world that I wanted to talk to about it was you.”
Her breathing was coming in unevenly now as they crept closer to the heart of it. Dancing around the things they never said to each other. Her blood heated beneath her skin and she was certain that if there was enough light, he would have seen the way color tinted her cheeks.
“Nothing is right without you in my life, darlin’.” His voice was softer now, hazy with emotion and barely restrained thoughts that had been swirling since their fight. “I need you around. You’re my… my partner.” His brow furrowed as he met her eyes with an intensity that she had to look away from. “I need my partner back.”
“I don’t think I can be that person for you anymore.” Even if he hadn’t hurt her, even if she did agree to forgive him for everything he’d said, things between them were too complicated now. There was too much history for her to move forward.
Adam’s face fell, heart plummeting to his feet. The sharp pain that ripped through his chest hit harder than he expected. He couldn’t stomach the idea of seeing her every week and not being able to talk to her.
“Please, I’m so god damn sorry about the shit that I said. I can’t say that enough, love. Just let me make it up to you. I swear to god, I’ll do anything!”
“It’s not that simple!” She tried to interject into his pleading but he didn’t care to hear it.
“It can be! Darlin’ come on! I can’t just pass you backstage every week and pretend that we’re strangers. You’re my best friend - I won’t just act like-“
“Adam, I’m leaving!” Her voice finally broke through his pleading and he stopped short. He wet his lips again, blinking back at her, physically incapable of keeping his eyes on the road now. She could feel her heart racing out of control with her admission, the look on his face striking down to her core, all confusion and heartbreak, probably not dissimilar to the look she imagined she’d had the night of their fight. “That’s why I was here tonight…I came to meet with Tony, to thank him for how understanding he’d been about my time away…and to tell him I needed out of my contract.”
“Out of your…” He shook his head, fingers raking through his beard as his mind wrapped around her words. “You can’t be serious. You’re leaving AEW?” She nodded and the lump in his throat grew, making it difficult to speak over, choking his words. “Look, I know things have been tough, between Kenny, and the Bucks, and…and me…I know but, sweetheart, you’re so much better than Impact. I’ve watched what you’ve been doing there this past year and you’re a star. You should be here, kicking ass and wracking up a title reign that no one can touch.”
“WWE offered me a contract.” The sentence felt dirty coming out of her mouth. She’d been original to this company and thought she’d be with them until the end. The betrayal on Adam’s face was a punch to her chest. “A generous one.” It wasn’t about the money but it definitely didn’t hurt. “My flight in the morning is headed to Stanford. I’m supposed to be signing a contract at ten.”
“Darlin’, don’t do this…” His voice was a warning, barely a rumble, as they pulled into the hotel parking lot. He’d been wrong when they left. He was already out of time.
“It’s already done, Adam. Tony granted me my release while you were getting changed.”
“Well then lets turn around now! We’ll go back to the venue and tell him you changed your mind! He’ll take you back in a second, you know that!” His voice was loud but not angry. Just firmly in denial, shaking his head over and over. She couldn’t stand the wild look in his eyes, desperate and frantic, so she yanked the door open, heading into the lot. There was no way she could sit still in that car, that close to him. He followed after her, his long legs quickly allowing him to catch up.
“There’s nothing left for me there for me. It’s time for a fresh start.” She barely spared a look back at him and he groaned.
“I’m here! Stay with me! Please, don’t go. I need you…” He was begging now but he didn’t care. She was exasperated, though. This decision was hard enough as it was, he had no right to stand here and make it harder for her.
“Why? Because you need someone to talk to after your matches go well? Or someone to take it out on when you lose? That’s not a reason to stay.”
“Then stay because I’m in love with you!” He shouted into the quiet of the night, knocking the air out of her lungs and stopping her dead in her tracks. She didn’t turn at first but he took the final steps toward her until she could feel the heat of his chest against her back. “And I think you might be in love with me too.” His breath tickled against the back of her neck, raising goosebumps down the full length of her spine.
“I…I…don’t know what…I…” All she could manage was an incoherent stammer and Adam moved in closer, fully pressed against her now until neither of them could breathe. He’d had countless dreams about being this close to her over the last year. But being here while he was awake was so much more dizzying. The smell of her shampoo, the warmth of her body, the way her form fit perfectly against his - it was overwhelming and took every ounce of self control he had not to wrap his arms around her like he always did in his dreams.
“Give us a chance…please. We owe it ourselves to give this an actual shot, darlin’, please.” His voice was a low rumble against her ear, his honeyed drawl irresistible as ever, heating her from the inside. She wasn’t even conscious of herself turning around until their faces were a breath apart. “Don’t leave me. Not again.”
His warm, calloused hand dwarfed her face as it settled against her cheek, cradling her jaw. She leaned into his palm, turning just enough for her lips to press against his skin, sending a spark up Adam’s arm. His thumb stroked her face, not letting his eyes drift from hers, watching the war that raged behind them.
“I swear to god, baby, just give me one chance to prove how good we could be and I will never hurt you again.” He brushed her hair behind her ear before gripping her face with both hands. If there was any chance this could be last time he got to feel her, he needed as much as he could get.
Swallowing the lump in her throat, she scrambled to remember all the reasons she had this morning for staying away from him. But it was pointless, one look into those magnetic blue eyes that were piercing down into her soul, and she was stuck. Adam Page was so deep in her veins, there was no getting him out now. Her lips parted in an attempt to steady her breathing and his gaze drifted down to them.
“Adam, please…” But she wasn’t really even sure what she was asking for. Her chest rose and fell, brushing against his each time and he stepped into her, urging her back a step until her back bumped against a car. The cold metal of the car door sent a shiver through her body. “Show me.”
He hardly let her get the whispered words out before he pulled her face to his, lips colliding in a soft but needy kiss. Electricity crackled between them, the sensation of her lips on his after all this time was sweet and intoxicating. He pulled back after what felt like a lifetime but had realistically only been a few moments, eyes frantically scanning her for her reaction. His tongue traced his lips, savoring the way her taste lingered. Her effect on him was stronger than a double shot of whiskey and ten times more addicting.
Her eyes widened while she gasped for air. But air wasn’t as important as getting more of him. Her hands moved up into his hair, tugging him back to her and he reacted in an instant, hips pinning her to the car. When his lips met hers this time, it was different, hungry, something he wasn’t sure he’d ever be able to stop now that it’d started.
He didn’t have the patience to be gentle anymore, devouring her. Her fingers tangled in his curls, pulling sharply, and he growled into her mouth, snapping his hips against hers. When his tongue slipped past her lips, she let out a breathy moan that wound every nerve in his body tight, blood rushing between his legs. His hand skated down to her waist, bunching her shirt beneath his fingers. She arched into him, her brain a total fog now, the only thing left was him, every bit of her common sense out the window.
His free hand curled around her thigh, guiding it up around his hip, leaning her further back against the car and allowing him the space to step between her legs. Their tongues twirled around each other’s while he ground into her core. Heat pooled low in her belly and her nails dug into his scalp. His hand slid under her shirt, burning a trail across her skin before palming at her chest. She rocked up into him, his erection straining against his jeans and heavy against her thigh. His lips travelled across the line of her jaw and down her throat, sucking hard at the soft skin and pulling a lofty moan from her mouth.
That noise was setting fire to Hangman’s brain, driving out everything around them, his entire world shifting on its axis. The only thing that mattered anymore was hearing more of that noise. He dragged the cup of her bra out of his way, thumb brushing over her, nipple pebbling under his touch. Capturing it between his fingers, he pinched and rolled the sensitive skin, teeth scraping over her neck. Her hips moved rhythmically now, desperate for friction, her helpless whimpers penetrating through the silence of the night air.
His lips wandered lower, dipping into her collarbone and sucking hard enough to leave a mark. She was his - even if it was only for tonight - she was all his and he was going to leave proof of it. His hand flittered down in time with his lips, teeth dragging the neckline of her shirt out of his way as he toyed with the button of her jeans. She gripped hard at his hair as his fingers slipped beneath her waistband, flirting with the lacy edges of her panties.
The flash of headlights pulling into the lot had them jumping apart, reality crashing into them in a powerful wave. Panting and plastered against the car, she ran a shaky hand through her hair. She’d entirely disappeared into their moment, the fact that they were still in a very public parking lot the furthest thought from her mind until then. She watched Adam’s tongue dart across his lips, eyes several shades darker than they’d been minutes before, his need palpable and etched into every hard line of his face. It was a look she had never seen on him before and it sent a pulse through her core, her panties entirely soaked through.
“Adam,” Her voice was hoarse and he raked his eyes over her disheveled clothes, “take me upstairs.”
“Yes ma’am.” He took her hand in his, pulling her after him into the hotel lobby. Blood pulsing in his ears, he couldn’t slow down long enough to wait for the elevator to come, leading her straight to the stairs but only made it as far as the first landing before pressing her against the wall and kissing her breathless again. She gasped into his mouth and his fingers tangled in the hair behind her ear, thumb brushing over her cheek when he pulled back. “Darlin, if you don’t stop making those noises, I’m never going to be able to make it to your room.”
She pressed her body back into him with a brief kiss before nudging past his arm. Leading him by the hand, she glanced back, struck by the look in his eyes - so much deeper than just the lust and need than she expected. This was really, finally happening. Her stomach fluttered in an entirely new way.
When they arrived at her door, he sandwiched his body tightly against her back while he waited for her to fish her key out of her purse. A muscular arm wrapped around her waist to hold her to him and his lips dancing across her neck, she could hardly focus on the task at hand, fumbling with the door. She finally got it open and he all but shoved her inside, kicking the door closed impatiently behind him.
He didn’t waste any time, spinning her around to face him and pushing her against the wall. Hoisting her up, he tapped at her thighs to encourage her to wrap them around his waist while he met her lips in a demanding kiss. One hand against the wall and the other tight around her upper thigh, he rocked into her once before carrying her to the bed.
He dropped her onto the mattress and she leaned back onto her elbows, looking up at where he stood between her legs. His movements were more deliberate this time, slowly leaning down to kiss her with his fingers buried in her hair, the other hand creeping up her inner thigh.
“You have no idea how long I’ve wanted this.” He breathed the words against her lips, fingers creeping toward the button of her jeans. She worked at undoing the snaps of his shirt, desperate to feel his bare chest beneath her fingers.
“Me too, Adam. Since the day I met you.” Her head tipped back when his lips made the journey down her neck. His fingers curled around the hem of her shirt, clenching and unclenching before finally peeling it off her and tossing it aside. As she got the last snap on his shirt, she pushed it off his shoulders, one hand traversing over the hard muscles of his chest while her legs wrapped around his waist.
His lips moved uninhibited down to her chest, his beard rough against the skin, and her arm looped around his neck. He dragged the strap of her bra down so he could kiss and nip his way over her cleavage. She didn’t bother to waste time, reaching behind her back to unhook the bra and pull it out of his way. His tongue traced across his lips as he finally took in the sight of her exposed chest and the hunger in his eyes sent pangs of need spiking through her. Dipping his head down, he traced his tongue in circles over her nipple, a rough hand kneading at the other breast. He raked his teeth over the sensitive bud and she moaned out, fingers digging into his shoulder blade.
“God, Adam.” The sound of his name on her lips when he touched her was enough to make him throb, his jeans uncomfortably tight. Sucking on her nipple, he rolled the other between his fingers as his hips rutted against her.
His tongue traced its way from her breast, down her sternum, dipping into her naval as he sank to his knees. He unbuttoned her jeans before using both hands to tug them off her legs so they pooled below him and gripped her thighs, yanking her to the edge of the bed. His kisses trailed over her stomach, hesitating as he arrived at the bruise Kenny’s boot had left on her earlier that evening. It felt like a million years ago now but sent an instant rush of rage and guilt bubbling through him.
His eyes flicked up to her but her face was all softness and want. She brushed a hand over the side of his face.
“I’m fine. I promise, it’s nothing I can’t handle.” She assured him and he let out a conflicted breath across her skin. Eyes pinned to her, he placed ginger kisses over every inch of bruising, thumbs dug into her inner thighs.
After ensuring he had covered every bit of skin, his lips travelled lower, tongue tracing the waistband of her panties while his thumb edged up to circle over the soaked fabric covering her core. Her hips rocked against him, seeking out his touch, and he pressed down more firmly, drawing a whiny moan from her lips. He savored the moment, his control over her pleasure, laving his tongue over her lace covered core.
“Adammmm,” She whined, “don’t tease.” But he had no intention of stopping. He’d promised to show her exactly how good they could be together and he was damn well going to show her how thigh-shakingly good it could be until she was begging for release.
Wrapping his arm around her thigh, he brought her in closer to him, sinking his teeth into the thick flesh of her inner thigh. She squealed, hands clenching and unclenching in his curls before he soothed the spot with his tongue. Arching toward him, she attempted to guide his head to where she needed him the most but he didn’t budge, sucking her soft skin between his lips until she squirmed, another mark proving she was his.
He nosed against the crook where thigh met lace before trailing his tongue over her heat. She scrambled to attempt to pull her panties out of the way but he only untwined their fingers, pinning her hand to the mattress.
“Patience, darlin’.” He cooed, the tickle of his breath making her whimper. She’d never needed anything in her life as much as she needed him right now. She didn’t realize it was possible to need anything this much but her head was spinning and fuzzy and, Jesus, he was the only thing that could fix it.
He pressed his tongue down hard enough to part her folds through the lace, working it up and down. Her head fell back, a breathy moan his reward as he moved. His pace picked up quickly, the lace rough against her center, and she couldn’t stop from rocking her hips up toward him. She kept a firm hand in his hair, urging him to hit all the right spot. Releasing her hand, he reached up to grope at her chest, tweaking her nipple between his fingers, and she cried out in response. He could feel her desperation as she got closer, already wound so tight for him. The pressure in her lower belly was swelling out of control and she struggled not to chase the inevitable high; she wasn’t ready for it to end.
“Let go for me, beautiful. Let me taste you. I’m not even close to done with you yet.” The rumble of his words against her core was enough to make her cry out, wobbling on the edge of relief. He pinched harder at her nipple, sucking at her clit through the lace, and she snapped, hands grasping wildly for any support she could get as she arched off the mattress.
Adam gave a satisfied hum as her body settled back into the mattress, arms laid out heavy at her sides. He kissed over the lace one last time before hooking his thumbs into the waist and rolling her panties off her body, flinging them somewhere behind him. Kissing a trail up and down her inner thigh, he waited for her to catch her breath before smoothing his hands over her hips. He shifted just enough to meet her eyes before slipping his hands down to her soaked, sensitive core. Using both thumbs, he spread her lips wide for him and ran the flat of his tongue in a broad stroke across her, groaning at the sweet taste of her orgasm. A shaky, high pitched cry echoed around the room at the sensation and he repeated the action.
“God, you taste so fuckin’ good, darlin’.” His remark was a near moan as he coated his tongue with her slick, using just the tip to trace through every inch of her folds, memorizing her. If she left tomorrow, he never wanted to forget a single detail of her body and the way it reacted to him.
Her moans filled the room quickly as his tongue flicked over her clit, her fingers in her hair for support more than anything because it was clear that he knew what she needed more than she ever did. His ministrations had her barreling toward a second climax faster than she had ever experienced, hardly even aware of herself anymore. She ground against his face without thought, head tipped back with broken cries.
“Adam, fuck, I - fuck! Please!” Her legs shook when his moan vibrated against her core, the coil inside her snapping and sending her over the edge. Every muscle in her body tensed before relaxing and her chest heaved trying to regain her breath.
He grinned against her glistening folds, gently lapping at her while she twitched. But he wasn’t satisfied. He was going to wring every orgasm he could out of her. Slipping her leg up onto his shoulder, he dragged his index finger up and down her folds, delighting in the way her entire body shuddered, a breathless whine squeaking out of her.
“Such a pretty little pussy.” His dirty mouth had her involuntarily clenching around air and he chuckled. Fuck, he loved watching her react to him. He used two fingers, swirling around her clit before slipping down to her entrance, and she gasped. He pushed his thick digits inside her slowly, feeling the way she squeezed around them. “So tight and needy for me, baby. Think my cock will fit in this sweet cunt?” He pumped his fingers teasingly slow and she arched toward him.
“God, please, Adam. I need it so bad, please.” Her voice was raked over coals, desperate and breathy, and made him throb in the tight confines of his jeans.
“Not yet. Be a good girl and let me taste you one last time. Cum for me again and I’ll give you what you need, baby.” He moved his fingers faster now and she trembled, muscles weak. A jolt shot through her spine when he brought his lips to her clit, sucking hard at the overstimulated bundle of nerves. She bucked against him, his fingers curling up to find her g-spot, a steady stream of cries and curses filling his ears. His tongue circled around her, his beard rough against her core while he worked her over.
Her hand gripped the sheets beneath her, the other tugging hard at his hair and making him growl against her. She whimpered when he lifted her hips up off the mattress to hold her closer. Her head spun as he stroked over her spot again and again, tongue lashing against her clit. Eyes rolled back, her entire body trembled, another orgasm closing in on her. He could feel her walls fluttering around his fingers and picked up his pace. When he raked his teeth over her clit, her back arched her completely off the bed, orgasm crashing violently into her and whiting out her vision.
Her muscles went limp in his arms but he didn’t slow down, not giving her a chance to breathe or ready herself. He kept up his pace, sucking at her clit and driving shuddering, jolted cries from her. Her body shook and twitched from the stimulation until it rolled right into another toppling orgasm. She gasped for breaths that couldn’t come fast enough and he finally lowered her body back down to the mattress, easing his fingers out of her.
He let her breathe as he gently kissed up her body, his bare chest pressed against hers. When she finally regained a semblance of her brain, her fingers knotted back into his hair, dragging him into a kiss that she hadn’t fully prepared for. She gasped against him and his tongue reunited with hers, the taste of her still strong on his tongue and his beard dripping with her orgasms.
“You’re fucking incredible.” He whispered against her, jean clad erection pressed to her core. She didn’t bother to think, fingers fumbling between their bodies to get him fully undressed. He let out a chuckle, the rumbling noise hitting deep in her center. “I’ve got it, sweetheart.”
He urged her back and she watched, lips parted, as he tugged at his belt. She could see him straining against his jeans, thick and beyond ready for her. Licking her lips, she waited impatiently for him to slide it fully out of his belt loops and undo his button. Thumbs hooked into his waist, he pulled jeans and boxers down over his thick thighs and she swallowed hard. He was hard as steel, a large vein wrapping along the thick length.
Crawling onto the bed, between her legs, he hovered over her frame. Brushing the hair back from her face, his lips brushed her forehead before settling on her lips. She leaned up into him, his cock heavy against her center.
“Ready, love?” He dragged his tip through her folds and she nodded. She had never been so ready. His big blue eyes were intense on hers, searching her for any hesitance but found nothing but want. Her hands laced up into his curls, pulling him back to her lips as her leg wrapped around his waist.
He notched his crown at her entrance, a strained arm holding himself up over her. Slowly, he pushed forward, stretching her walls and sliding deep inside until he was fully seated, giving her a chance to adjust to his size. She squeezed around him and he bunched the sheets beneath his fingers, cursing. Her moan mingled with his, indulgent and throaty, her eyes rolling back.
“So fucking good, darlin’. Fuck, baby. You’re squeezing me so tight.” He groaned into the nook of her neck. Her arms wound around his shoulders and he pulled out to the tip before thrusting back into her.
He tried to go slowly for her but couldn’t stop himself after a few more thrusts, his need for her swelling out of control. His hips snapped against hers, deep and fast, and she arched into him, her nails raking down his back only driving him more. He rocked in and out, bottoming out and trying to savor every second, every noise, every inch of her blissed out face.
His fingers curled around the bars of the headboard, shifting up onto knees, slamming into the wall with each thrust.
She flipped them over, pushing him backwards as she crawled over his lap. He tried to sit up with her but she pressed his chest back down into the mattress. Licking his lips, he admired her body, out on display for him. She ground against his cock a hand on his chest to steady herself. Using her other hand, she reached between their bodies, lining him up with her entrance and sinking down on his length with a groan. Adam’s head fell back, eyes shuddering closed as she stretched around him. He smoothed a hand up the curve of her waist and thumbed over her nipple.
She quickly fell back into a rhythm, bouncing on his cock. He pinched her nipple, eyes glued to the way her tits moved. She ran a hand through her hair and rolled her hips, taking every inch of him. His hands slipped down, gripping hard enough at her hips to leave marks, encouraging her movements.
“Squeeze those tits for me, pretty girl. You’re so god damn perfect.” He growled when she did as he asked, committing the sight to memory. Her thighs quivered when he circled his thumb over her clit. She began to pulse around his cock, her movements becoming jerky and irregular.
Adam pushed himself up enough for his back to lean against the bed frame. His arms wound tight around her, holding her in place as he snapped up into her. Her face buried in his neck, she cried out against him as he hammered deep inside. She tugged hard at his hair and he groaned, his cock twitching when her body trembled beyond control. He crashed his lips into hers for a messy, open mouthed kiss, her moans sharp and rhythmic until she fell over the edge and they became a noiseless breath. Her walls clenched like a vice around him, pulsing and pulling him into a wild climax, his hot release filling her up with a strangled groan.
Their motions slowed until they were finally still, their bodies tangled together, hands tangled in each other’s hair. He scattered kisses over every inch of her face.
“Fuckin’ hell, darlin’.” He groaned, rolling his hips, still deep inside her. “You’ve got me so far in over my head.” He hadn’t even really meant to say it, it just slipped out, his forehead pressed to hers. Her chest fluttered, kissing him once before leaning her head against his shoulder. He rubbed large, rough hands over her back, kissing the top of her head. “I love you, baby.”
She didn’t stir, the reality of the evening crashing over her. She’d dreamed of this night for so many years, it felt unreal now that it happened. But it was so much more complicated now. He cupped her face, forcing her to look up at him. Her eyes landed heavy on his, trapped once again in that magnetic gaze. She couldn’t breath under that gaze and she couldn’t deny the way he made her feel.
“I love you too, Adam.” The admission was heavy and hung between them for a few beats before a bright smile rose to his face. He smoothed her hair down.
“Stay with me, then. Be with me.” He insisted and she let out a shaky sigh.
“I’m supposed to be in Stanford in the morning…”
“So what? Blow them off. We’ll go talk to Tony. Together.” He wasn’t dissuaded by her hesitance. He knew he had her now - she loved him and that was all he needed. He could do anything now that he had that.
“Adam…” She struggled to summon a single reason not to. She’d spent so long denying herself - denying that they could actually be together but here he was, in love with her and willing to do what it took to make it work.
“Be with me. It’s time we both stop overthinking this.” His thumb stroked her cheek, the last of her defenses ebbing away by the second. “Come back and be my partner again. Don’t walk away from this. Not when we’re finally this close.” Her heart hammered in her chest, her throat dry. “Tell me you’ll stay, darlin’. Please. I don’t think I could take it if you left now.” She nodded before she could stop herself and he angled his head down at her. “Yeah?”
“Yeah…” She finally conceded. “Yeah. Okay. Let’s give it a shot.” Her voice was more confident that time, the decision settling more warmly in her gut. His smile stretched broadly across his face as he dove into her, trapping her beneath him once again as he kissed her, smile melded against her lips.
“That’s my girl.” His voice was soft, forehead pressed to hers. She liked the sound of that.

The Christmas that Wasn’t-Ch. 16
Tumblr media
A/N: As always, written with the beautiful, lovely amazing @mox-made-me-do-it . Sorry it took so long guys!
Chapter 16: Adam
I stayed on the swim deck all night with a bottle of Jack Daniels. I listened to Dan and Shay on an endless loop—hoping to make myself sick of it. Every note made me think of Allie, of the way she felt in my arms, of the scent of her hair and her skin. I tried to stop the thoughts, the memories. Tried to force myself to hate the music pouring through my speakers. My chest ached. I wanted to chuck the whole goddamn stereo in the water.
Allie’s face swam in my mind. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t imagine what Allie was going through. She had just had her entire life turned on its head. Thrust upside down in a split second. Here I was trying to lay on my best moves. The woman had come all the way to Bora Bora to forget the pain of what happened to her, to reawaken her happiness. Not to find some new hook up. She’d come here with Leigh, to be with Leigh.
It was time for me to take a step back. To give her the space she so obviously wanted.
The empty bottle hit the deck with a clink. The swim deck swayed, churning my stomach. I tried to focus on the stars and the moon burning bright in the sky, but the bobbing made it hard to focus on anything. It took a minute or two to pull myself up to standing. I stumbled up the steps to the main deck, trying my best not to fall over. I’d no more than stepped inside than Kenny appeared from the other side of the bungalow.
“Man, I’m sorry,” I slurred, banging into the back of the sofa as I went. “About tonight. You don’t know how much I didn’t want to knock on that door.”
I made it to the minibar, slinging the empty bottle on the counter. I leaned heavily against the wall, hoping to regain my balance. “How’d it go?”
“Come on, Hanger,” Kenny said with a faint smile. He stood by the door, one shoulder against the wall. “A guy’s got to have his secrets.”
I smirked, words forming on the tip of my tongue. Words that I knew were too hurtful to say.
Kenny looked me over. “Did you drink that whole bottle tonight?” He was clearly trying to change the subject. “What happened over here?
I let him. “Dude, I don’t even know. Everything was perfect,” I replied, thinking of every second of those moments together. “We were dancing over there and I was just about to kiss her and then the song changed. She froze, I turned around, and she bolted. She didn’t come here for some hook up. I need to stop.”
Kenny moved closer, his eyes wary. I opened the minifridge with one hand, picked up and waved the empty bottle with the other. “And no, smart ass, I made this bottle last all day. But I feel like I need another one.” I pulled out another bottle—this time of Maker’s Mark—and swayed on my feet. “But come on, man. One of us had to get some tonight. Did you get her to make any cute noises? Get your dick sucked?”
I realized pretty quickly that I was rambling, spilling out bullshit while Jack ran through my blood. For a minute, I felt like I was going to puke. “Dude…”
The next thing I knew, pain bloomed up along my chin. I hit the ground hard, the wind rushing out of me in a huff. My vision blurred for half a second. The nausea rolled back over me as I tried to get to my feet. I was hardly up on my knees when Kenny’s fist slammed into my jaw just below my ear. My ears rang. I didn’t know which way was up.
“What the fuck man?” I shouted as I pulled myself to my feet. God, I felt like I was going to puke. “What’s your problem?”
“You,” Kenny spat, his fist already curling for another blow. “Your drunk ass is my problem.”
I shoved him back as hard as I could. “I’m the problem? You can’t even have a hook up right! Her hair wasn’t even messed up. It’s not like you were stormin’ the fucking beaches when I showed up.”
“You have no clue what was going on,” he replied. He shook out his hand. “So shut your goddamn mouth and go sleep it off.”
I should have taken his advice. A sober me probably would have. But Jack wasn’t much in the mood to be a good guy. My palm ran over the places where I knew bruises would be blooming by tomorrow.
“What was it, huh, Ken?” I spat. “Couldn’t get it up? Not as big a fan of the girls anymore? All talk and no action, aren’t you?”
Oh, Christ, I was an idiot. I knew it. I could feel it, but there was no stopping the Jack once it did its thing.
“Poor pitiful Kenny,” I whined. My feet were a little more solid under my feet. I squared up, knowing that it was a horrible fucking idea. “Nobody loves me. I can’t fuck Leigh. Kota left me. Boo fucking hoo. Jesus, do you ever wonder why?”
It was a shitty thing to say. I knew that it wasn’t fair to bring up Kota. That was a button pushed too far.
For a minute, I didn’t think he’d say anything. He just stood there, staring at me. I was watching his face. I should’ve been watching his hands.
“Son of a bitch,” Kenny yelled. He started swinging, not caring. I dodged one or two of the blows, but he hit me again on the jaw below the ear. I couldn’t hear for the longest time. My balance gave out.
Before thirty seconds had gone by, he’d clipped me twice more on the jaw and then popped me one massive time in the solar plexus. My chest locked up. Kenny moved faster and hit harder than anyone I’d ever met. It wouldn’t surprise me if he’d broken my ribs. He yelled at me but I couldn’t make out a word of it. When he was pissed, he shouted in Japanese. But I understood “mother fucker” when I heard it.
I couldn’t catch my breath no matter how hard I tried. Kenny had punched me so hard that it was like having my chest caved in. Lungs popped. Like a fucking fish on a deck. A spike of rage bloomed through me. For a split second, Jack turned that rage into hate. I hated Kenny Omega.
Before the thought could take root, I gasped in a heavy breath and held up my hands to defend myself. “Dude… Ken… stop!” His fist swung out one more time, clipping me across the cheek. Kenny stood over me, his hands clenched into fists, one of his knuckles busted open. “I’m sorry.”
Kenny looked down, the brightness in his eyes fading as the fight went out of him. He choked in a breath and then stretched out his hand to help me up. We stood face to face, watching each other with uncertain eyes. I could already feel my cheek swelling, pain lancing up beneath my left eye. I’d have a shiner for sure.
“I didn’t mean that,” I said warily. Fuck, my face hurt. “That was the Jack talking.”
He turned away, the expression on his face clouded. I couldn’t tell if he believed me. Hell, even I couldn’t tell if I believed me. “Sleep it off, Adam,” he said before walking toward the bathroom.
He’d barely made it two steps when the door nearly shook off the hinges. Loud thumping knocks vibrated through the air. Kenny pulled the door open, and Allie and Leigh pushed past him.
“What the hell is going on in here?!” Allie shouted, hands on her hips.
Shit, I thought, heart pounding, we were loud enough for them to hear us. FUCK!
Her eyes widened when she had half a second to take in my face. Her lips pressed into a thin line. She glared at Kenny from the corner of her eye, and I couldn’t help but smile. I’d seen her take fire when Leigh’s ex had been on the phone that first day. I could only imagine what kind of hell she would give Kenny for what he’d just done.
Allie turned toward Leigh, pulling the other girl closer by the wrist. I had a brief flash of when Ken and I had walked in on them. Jack made me think a couple things I shouldn’t have. I looked away and caught Kenny’s eye in the process. He raised his hands and backed away, as if he didn’t have anything else to say to me.
I watched as Leigh slid her fingers around Kenny’s wrist and pulled him toward the door. He relaxed at her touch, the anger fading from his face almost instantaneously. She smiled, her whole face changing when she looked at him. Her eyes were bright, face upturned as if she were waiting for him to lean down and kiss her.
I’m an ass, I thought bitterly. Kenny was easy to love. He was loved. By the woman standing right in front of him.
Kenny let Leigh lead him back out into the night, leaving me along with Allie.

Tumblr media
Back in Gabby’s life, her and Adam had bought a house in Ann Arbor Michigan where they planned to raise their baby. A baby boy named Ashen Page. 8 months into her pregnancy she was on lock down not knowing when the baby would come, other on Adam’s hand he still had to wrestle.
“He’s not home yet?” Parker said, “Nope.” Gabby sighed. Gabby and Parker were facetiming while she sat on their couch, waiting for Adam to arrive home. Minutes later she heard the sound of the door being unlocked, “Ok he’s here I’ll call you back.” She hung up the phone. Adam entered the house, hair in ponytail, luggage draped over his shoulder. “Hi baby!” Adam dropped his bags and ran to where Gabby was, “Hi!”
They kissed, when Gabby noticed something...off, “Have you been drinking again?” “Of course not, babe.” Adam placed his hand on a frustrated Gabby's stomach. While she was pregnant, her and Adam promised he’d sober up, unless it was drinking for work. She immediately moved his hand off her, “I’m not fucking dumb Adam, I can taste the whisky in your breath.” she rolled her eyes. They sat down on the couch, “I was stressed about work and you and Ashen, I just had to.”
“You sound fucking dumb, if I can’t drink for 9 months, you can’t either.” Gabby shook her head in disappointment. “When are you gonna become more understanding Gabrielle, like fuck!”
“More understanding?! I’ve been nothing but understanding bro.” A tear ran down her face. “It’s like you want me to be this person that can wrestle, and be a great dad, and pleasure you, plus be your emotional support system? I can’t do it all.” “So what? Am I asking for too much? Because if I went to Joey and asked him to be my emotional support system, or fuck it. Go to him for sex them what would you do Adam?” Gabby wiped her tears, crossing her arms. “Really? Maybe I wasn’t wrong about you and Kenny then!” he shouted.
“What is it Adam? You think we fucked? Kissed? Want each other? I’ve told you it's not like that at all. You're the only man I want.” Gabby teared up again. Adam couldn’t bear to see Gabby cry anymore, so he pulled her into a hug. “I’m sorry about the drinking babe.” “It’s ok, I love you”. Adam used the tips of his thumbs to wipe the tears off her face, lifting Gabby’s shirt rubbing her baby bump. “Love you so much more.”
All the way over in Jacksonville, Brianna was getting ready to film a BTE bit. She had agreed to film with Brandon and Frankie Kazarian, and was a bit excited. “Alright, Brianna you ready?” Brandon asked, Bri nodded enthusiastically. “Kaz you ready?” She looked over at Frankie and he was glaring at her. “Yeah, I’m ready.” He said in a sharp tone.
She went back and got into place and Brandon started filming.
Bri was hunched over looking through Twitter on her phone, not watching where she was going. “OW- What the shit!?” Frankie Kazarian yelped. Bri quickly looked away from her phone to see that her foot was on top of Frankie’s heel. “Oh my god. I am so sorry, I wasn’t watching where I was going-” she rambled. Frankie was steamed. He was already angry, as usual, and this made it a MILLION times worse.
“You know what I am sorry for BRI-ANNA?” He asked quite loudly which made everyone turn to look at him. “I'm sorry that someone as talented as Joey Janela wasted his hard earned money on someone like you.” Bri opened her mouth to apologize again but was cut off. “HOW are you even back here? I don’t know if you have read the fucking signs EVERYWHERE, but this is for talent only! What talent do you have Bri? Besides getting on your knees for people other than the Lord himself?” Kazarian was extremely dramatic with everything he said during BTE- but this seemed a little too real.
“Like honestly, as soon as you get here you have Marq Quen following you around like you’re important; and then the very next day I SEE you talking to Cash Wheeler- who has only been here for a couple WEEKS?! I’m surprised you didn’t all go in a room together and fuck yourselves, or maybe you did.”
Bri was actually concerned. “How the hell does he know who I’ve been with… this wasn’t in the script?” She began to notice everyone around listening into her conversation whispering to each other. “This is so embarrassing.” she thought. “What else have you done here? You’re by far the LEAST relevant outta of your little friend group, and you crave attention so much - so now you got it! Should I go off and check everyone you’ve batted your eyelashes at since you’ve been here?”
Bri shook her head no, but it was too late. “There was Marq of course, then when you got bored with him you crawled over to the new hottest thing; Cash Wheeler. But do they know who you’ve had between them?” Bri’s eyes slightly widened.  “You had made heart eyes, with not one but ALL members of Team Taz. What is wrong with you?! Two of them have families of their own, You damn homewrecker!” She saw some of the people backstage shake their heads.
“Kaz… stop.” she mumbled under her breath.
“Nah nah, don’t be quiet now you fucking cheater! Everyone has heard you, like when you thought since you were in a janitor closet with Austin Gunn no one would notice the strange moans coming out of them?” Shit. Bri was tired of hearing this man exposing her, “I told you - that wasn’t me. This arena is old, could have been a ghost Frankie.” she lied of course, but she would do anything to get out of this situation.
“Last time I checked we were at a wrestling arena not a damn haunted mansion. Everyone is smart enough to know the difference between a moan full of fucking pleasure from a cry from a ‘ghost’.”
Brandon Cutler began to lower his camera but Kazarian yelled at him. “Don’t you fucking dare cut this! We’re all about being real, well THIS right here,” as he points as Brianna, “Is as real as we’re gonna get. Because some people are stupid enough to let bitches like this come in here and suck off the whole roster.” Bri was shocked.
“Who are you calling a bitch? I know the least important member of SCU isn’t talking. Let me talk to Scorpio.” she rolled her eyes, there was no way in hell this was getting posted online. “Sorry, he’s trying to stay away from women that seduces half of the indie wrestlers on Dark.”
Bri slapped Frankie with tears starting to form into her eyes, “You ain’t shit.” and she meant every word. She didn’t care that Cutler was calling her name, or even some of the wrestlers trying to stop her- she had to get out of not only this situation, but the arena as fast as possible.

“Why are there so many rooms in this damn arena?” Adriana questioned as she was acting like she was looking for Tony Khan’s office. She had been searching everywhere as Brandon Cutler followed her with his camera. The camera cut to her in front of the Elite locker room, raising her hand to knock at the door. A relieved Kenny popped in the doorway. “Oh Adriana, am I glad to see you!” He moved over and invited Adriana into the room, closing the door behind him.
“Well, I would love to sit here with you Kenny, but could you show me where Khan’s office is-?” Kenny pushed his finger onto her lips making her shush. “Shhh, I can show you where his office is. But I need something from you since Matt is busy handling phone calls.”
Her face lit up to the mention of Matt’s name, but she had to stay in character, so she immediately nodded and mouthed an okay. She sat down in the chair, across from the couch Kenny was sitting on. “You’re a little far, wouldn't you say?” he said as he began to shift to the edge. “Uhm, that depends what exactly am I doing?” As she looked at him with confusion.
“Just move a little closer.” Kenny demanded. “We gotta get this over with.” Adriana’s mouth slightly fell open, in shock of the words coming out of his mouth. “I- I’m sorry. What do you mean get this over with-” Kenny chuckled, “No one was out there right- you came alone?” She nodded quickly, unable to speak; she could feel the room closing in on her, making her move her chair slightly to where he was on the couch. He looked at her weird, “Haha a little closer than that Adri.”
He said as he leaned over folding his hands. “Well, how close do I have to be?” she tilted her head up giving him her full attention. “I mean…you’re still a little far for what we have to do.” She began to pull her chair forward, but Kenny pushed her back down lightly and stood up. “What WE have to do?” She asked, not understanding the signals he was giving to her. At this point she was losing it on the inside, he’s never been so forward with her. His hands began to adjust the band of his gray shorts.
“Yea, hey you mind getting on your knees?” he asked with all seriousness in his voice making Adriana almost fall out of her chair. From the corner of her eye she could see Brandon’s eyes widened a bit. She looked up and saw a slight smirk from Kenny, which made her roll her eyes. “He knows what he’s doing.” she thought in the inside of her head. Kenny stood there , looking stupid as Adriana came back to reality.
“O-on my knees? Are you sure?” As she began to crawl out the chair. “Uh yea- I know this isn't your first time, but I thought you would be more prepared.” he joked. She had almost let out a laugh. “Oh, and take that ponytail holder on your wrist and tie your hair up- this could get a little messy.” as he pushed his shorts down his legs- making her face to face with his package. She felt Brandon move closer to get a better shot of her face, and she wished he hadn’t. She shot her head back, letting out a sigh. “Damn, he is bigger than I thought.” She closed her eyes, and tried to gain control overself. She did a slight prayer as she closed her eyes and opened her mouth slightly, waiting for Kenny. When he placed it in her mouth she was shocked, it was thick… but cold.
She opened her eyes when she heard Kenny freaking out. “ADRIANA! STOP BEING RIDICULOUS! DID YOU SEE HOW WHITE MY LEGS ARE?” Adriana also started freaking out as she spat out a bottle of tanning spray. “STOP LOOKING AT MY RIDICULOUS QUAD DEVELOPMENT AND GET THIS GOD DAMN QUICK TAN ON MY LEGS STAT!” Kenny yelled.
“YES- TAN! RIGHT, NOTHING ELSE.” as she scurried to pick up the bottle.  Adriana had struggled unloosing the cap not only because of the commotion, but because of the fact she thought she was about to get filmed for a porno with Kenny Omega. “ADRIANA! HURRY UP. THE COLOR OF MY ARMS, AND THE COLOR OF MY FACE DO NOT MATCH THE COLOR OF MY LEGS!” He pouted as she finally shook the can getting ready to spray but then it accidentally slipped out of her hands. “SPRAY MY LEGS!”
She shot the cap throwing it somewhere in the room. “God, I’m an idiot.” she said to herself. “Sorry Kenny, I didn’t know they were this pale-” “MAKE THEM ORANGE!” He ordered, making Adriana spray faster. “Eh it’s looking… pretty good!” he said while examining his now newly tanned legs. “I knew I could count on you. Thanks.” he said.
“You’re so welcome, sorry I don’t know why that was so hard for me to do.” She said as she got up from her odd position to sit on the end of the couch. “Why were you so freaked out-” He asked as he spotted the spray can top in the corner of the room. “I’m not sure honestly, it’s just something I do nowadays.” She lied, but he didn’t think anything of it.
He took the can out of her hand and popped the cap back on as he sat next to her, “Anyways, since Matt isn’t in here. You should get over here and suck me o-”
Stolen Bit Partner
“Did you see how big his biceps were?” John Silver said, walking down the hallway with Alex and Parker, arms hooked. “You were right John, his milkshake sure does bring all the boys to the yard.” Parker said, chuckling slightly. Alex was about to protest what Parker was saying, but agreed. No one could deny that Wardlow was a beautiful human. The trio kept walking, talking about the man who’s locker room they had just left, when they bumped into another trio, one that Parker was very familiar with.
The Best Friends and Orange Cassidy.
They all stopped in their tracks. That’s when Alex detached from Parker, him and Chuckie going around in a slow circle, sizing each other up. Trent and John just looked at each other. And in the middle of all of this, Cassidy took off his glasses, and started looking Parker up and down.
The rotating finally stopped when Chuck spoke up, “You stole my bit partner, Reynolds.” “Oh, YOUR bit partner?”
And so the argument began, Trent bending down to get in Silver’s face, and Chuck and Reynolds pushing each other back and forth. Behind it all, Parker looked over to Orange and waved, but when he didn’t even give a sup motion, she turned away, a defeated look on her face.
“At least I’m not in a cult with a bunch of spooky perverts!” “Well these spooky perverts have a better hug than you guys!”
“What even is a ‘Johnny Hungie’?!” Trent yelled, “Well what the fuck is an ‘olive tit’ TRENT?!” “Boys, Boys! Please!” Parker yelled, standing between all of them. “Did they experiment on your brain!?” Chuck questioned, looking down at Parker. “What- Okay. No they did not experiment on my brain!”
“Did they TRAIN you to say that?” Trent said jumping at Silver. Parker pushed Trent back lightly. “Train Trent? What do you think we are? Some kind of cult?!” John argued. “Yes! That’s exactly what we’re saying.” Chuck answered.
“Y’know what?!” Alex grabbed Parker by the arm, “We’re leaving!”
Parker swatted Alex’s hand, that look on her face. “I think I’m going to...be on Sammy’s vlog instead.” She gave a nervous smile before walking behind the camera, “See ya Brandon.” “Uh, bye.”
Alex pointed his finger in Chuck’s face, Kool-Aid container still in his hand, “This isn’t over.” Reynolds and Silver walked away when Chuck mumbled, “We’re in the middle of a pandemic, keep your hand out my face.” Trent and Cassidy looked at each other while Chuck walked away. Trent shrugged one more time before following.
Orange just sighed, minding his own business.
Hungry Hungry Hippos
The room had conversation and laughter, when Trent spoke up, “Uh, BTE Championship match, triple threat.” The camera panned over to the left, “Marq Quen checking in.” Marq said with a smile, Isiah waving from behind him. The camera panned past Trent to the right, “Parker here, with uh, Chuck Taylor.” Chuck and Parker looked awkwardly at each other before Parker looked back at the camera, “My other friends decided to be dicks and not show up.”
Brandon pointed back towards Trent, who explained the game, “So uh, we’re playing the game Hungry Hungry Hippos, first one to get to two victories wins my BTE championship.”
The next scene showed all of them surrounding a table. “I am a GOAT at this game.” Marq said, rubbing his hands together. Parker pointed at him, “Oh yeah? Well prepare to lose Quen.”
The game had started, and the game had almost fallen off the table. “Y’all are so aggressive!” Matt Jackson laughed, pointing out how seriously they were taking the game.
Marq had quickly gotten the first victory. Trent and Parker groaning at their defeat.
“Already halfway THERE.” “Shut up!” Trent and Parker said in unison.
And the games went on, until all of them were tied with one victory each.
The three looked at each other, before talking to their “coaches” for a moment.
They had all returned to the table, and the tiebreaker had started. This round was definitely the most aggressive, with Trent actually trying, Marq jumping up and down making noises, and Parker trying to be as quick as possible.
When all the marbles were gone, they had each counted them up.
Trent had gone first, only having 5. Then Parker counted theirs, having 8. Marq counted the last of the marbles.
“Five, Six,” He pulled out the last marble, “Seven.” Marq had dropped to the ground, while Parker jumped up, knees almost to her chest in victory. “New BTE champ!” Nick said, grabbing the championship and handing it to Parker.
Parker held up the championship, before looking at it, “I have to go rub this in Adriana’s face so she gets mad at me.” She was about to leave the room, when she stepped back, “Oh yeah, I promised Marko I would fight him for this if I won. So next week, we balance KitKats on our heads.” “You’re gonna WHAT?!”

The Elite The The Elite
What Nick you’re not gonna sing it all with me this time?
Brianna was so embarrassed. How did Frankie even know all that? She kept thinking to herself, “Did Marq tell everyone?” He wouldn’t...right? This was just all too much for her, cause of some stupid mistake.
She stayed outside the arena the whole show, not wanting to show her face in there. Then wrestlers and producers started walking out, some mumbling when they looked over at Bri. She looked over at the people walking out, and saw Marq and Isiah. Marq and Brianna stared at each other, before Marq looked away, almost like he didn’t want to look at her. She watched them pack up and drive off, and she heard a familiar voice call out from behind her, “Hey Brianna!”
She looked over her shoulder and saw Cash walking over to her, and they both started smiling. That smile quickly turned back into a frown, when Dax grabbed Cash by the arm, dragging him away.
Great.
She went back to staring at the ground, upset. She almost jumped back when someone sat next to her. “They said we can delete it.” Brandon Cutler said, trying to sound sympathetic. “Thank you.” Brianna mumbled. “Look, we got Kaz to calm down, and he’s gonna talk to you about it,” Brandon put his hand on her shoulder before getting up, “Hang in there, alright?”
“Could this day get any worse?” Brianna thought to herself.
When of course, with Brianna’s luck, it could. She felt something drop on her head, then her arm, then ankle. It’s like the rain started on command. “This is so fucking cliche.” Brianna said, standing up and walking to her car, not without one of her heels breaking.
She waited until she got in the car, and then she screamed, at the top at her lungs. She just wanted to go to sleep, and find a fucking way to prove Kaz wrong.
Back at the Hotel
It had been months. Months since Parker and Chuck broke up. She wanted to talk to him outside of BTE for months. But she didn’t have the guts to do it.
She was watching tv in her hotel room, thinking about him, like always.
She pulled out her phone and facetimed Gabby, the only person she could really talk to about this stuff. There were a few rings before Gabby picked up, clearly irritated, “Girl it is half past midnight. Why are you calling me?” “I need to talk to him.” “Talk to who?” “Chuck! I can’t keep putting it off anymore.”
“Well then just talk to him?” “I can’t just discuss that over the phone.”
“Well, ask if you can talk in person.” Parker nodded, and went to her contacts, and clicked on the one she hadn’t touched in months. She read through the last of his messages to her, she didn’t answer.
It made her feel horrible.
She finally worked up the courage to type it out, “Can we talk? Like in person?”
“Okay, I did it.” “Great, now you just have to wait and see what he says.”
“Gabby, I’m sure he’s sleeping right now. And I can’t blame him if he doesn’t respo-” Parker paused, and looked like she had just seen a ghost. “Parker? Everything okay?” “....He texted back.”
“Well what did he say?!”
“He said of course, and then his room number…” “Well then go!” Parker got up quickly, tripping over her own feet walking to the door. “Wait wait Parker!” “What?”
“Put shoes on, don’t be a hobo.”
Parker laughed, quickly putting on some shoes, before hanging up on Gabby and making her way towards the elevator.
She waited when it opened, Trent coming out the elevator. “Oh, hey.” Parker said, looking at her feet. “He sent me to James’ room so you guys could talk.” Trent said, slightly laughing. Parker didn’t say anything, “Hey, it doesn’t have to be awkward y’know. We’re still cool.”
Parker smiled, and hugged Trent, before getting into the elevator.
She walked out the elevator, for once walking with some pep in her step. It stayed that way until she reached the front of his door. She reached her hand up, and was about to knock when she put her hand down.
Well, not without hitting the door.
When she realized, she started freaking out. In silence of course. The door creaked open, Chuck and Parker looked at each other. “Do you wanna come in?”
Parker nodded, walking through the doorway. She sat on the couch, rubbing her hands awkwardly, looking at the floor. “So, what did you need to talk about?” He asked, sitting on the opposite side.
She could feel it coming, word vomit, “I made a mistake, and I know I did when I broke up with you, but I couldn’t work up the courage to talk to you cause I know you want nothing to do with me and-” “Wait wait, you still…” “Yes I do, and I know things will never be the same and just...I know this was a mistake.”
“Parker, I have been waiting to talk to you. Just at least when you’re ready. I miss you.”
Parker continued to look at the floor, slightly smiling. Chuck lightly gripped her chin, lifting her head up. “I love you, Parker.” Parker smiled, “I love you too, Chuck.”
For the first time in months, they shared a kiss. “I missed having my whatever.” Chuck said, foreheads pressed together.
“Now can we please go back to being bit partners John keeps saying my name over and over.” The couple laughed, “Of course, I’ll tell James to stop giving you dirty looks.” “And I’ll tell the spooky perverts to not argue with you anymore.” The couple jumped when they heard the door open.
“I forgot my bag of chips.” Trent said, walking into the room. “God Trent you could’ve texted.” Chuck said, slapping his forehead. “I did. Did I interrupt something important?” Parker and Chuck looked at each other and smiled.
Trent started to “ooo” like he was in middle school. Parker stood up, cheeks red, “Okay on that note I’m leaving.” She started towards the door, “I love you Parker!” Chuck yelled out. “I love you too.” She was out the door when she heard Trent, “OH MY GO-” The door closed, and Parker laughed listening to Chuck yelling at Trent to shut up.
Parker walked towards the elevator, glad to have that situation of her shoulders and to have Chuck back.
“So, what's next for you two?” Trent asked, sitting back on his bed. Chuck looked out the window, “I don’t know yet exactly, I just know that I can’t lose her again.”
Back at Daily’s Place
“Did you see the look on Brandon’s face, it was priceless!” Kenny and Adriana had just finished their BTE bit and were now laughing at themselves for how clever they were. “Dude, I think we’re geniuses. Only we could come up with stuff like this.” Kenny said while holding his stomach from laughing.
“You know, for a second I thought you were serious.” Adriana said after wiping her tears. Kenny tilted his head to the side. “What are you talking about… my legs were actually white as paper.” She shook her head, “That’s not what I’m talking about and you know that.” Kenny seemed to understand her a bit clearer now as he scooted closer next to her. “Do you really think that I would let you give me head at our job?” He asked with interest in his eyes. She began to start breathing heavily noticing their knees were touching.
“You’re right - what was I thinking. You’re all business.” She sighed and put her hand on her face covering it up. Kenny thought it was cute how she was trying to hide from this conversation instead of talking about it. “That’s not true. I do childish shit all the time. And if we really wanted to, it would be way more than just head.”
Adriana felt like she was powerbombed on the apron. “Plus I don’t see you as a person to give head in weird places like this EVP room, in a public bathroom, or even inside of a car.” He added. Her head whipped up so fast she thought it would fall off. “Right, why would I do that? That’s gross and disgusting-” she lied. If only he knew… “What’s gross, having sex with me or giving head in weird places?” She opened her mouth to speak but decided against it.
He noticed as he rested his hand on her thigh. “I saw the look in your eyes Adriana. The way you looked at me when we did that bit for Being the Elite, is something I won’t be able to get my mind off for a long time. So - I am not saying it has to be today, but soon I want to hangout with you out of work. I want to know the real you.” She was left speechless, once again by Kenny Omega. “I got to go, but I’ll think about it.”
She got up from the couch and wiped her now sweaty hands on her jeans. Kenny also stood , studying her. The way she avoided eye contact, the way her feet shuffled trying to gain her stuff immediately. His heart started to get louder as she finally looked at him and reached for a hug, making him open his arms. It wasn’t anything like he wanted. It was short and meaningless but he did get the chance to smell the perfume she was wearing and that alone made him swoon. Kenny gave her a wave as he sat back on the couch, “Shit.” he mumbled. “What have I gotten myself into.”
On the other side of the door, Adriana was trying to come back to reality. “That really just happened.” she thought. “Did you have fun with ‘Spray Tan’ in there?” a voice asked sarcastically. She jumped up and when she turned around she was met with a frustrated Matt Jackson.  “Oh! Jeez you scared the hell out of me. I didn’t know you were here today.” She mentally slapped herself, “I really need to learn how to lie.”
Matt leaned on the wall looking her over. “Really, last time I checked - I was an EVP. You on the other hand - are not - so what were you doing in this room for that long?” He asked. Adriana bit her lip, they hadn’t seen each other since their session in the car and both of them were aching for more ever since. “I had to record something with Kenny for BTE. It’s not that serious.” Matt ran his hand through his hair shooting his head back. “I saw the segment, Adri.” He plainly said. “Is this what we’re going to do? We’re going to act like what we did was nothing?” He walked closer to her sliding his hands to her waist. He lifted his hand to move some of her hair out of her face and leaned in to whisper in her ear, “Meet me at the Jacksonville Jaguars Stadium at 10 O’clock. And wear a bathing suit.” He hovered his lips over her neck before patting her ass and then walking away.
Adriana stood there dumbfounded. She had waited a whole week to be able to get to see Matt, since they last met in the car and all she got was teasing. She looked toward the EVP room and sighed. She was so confused with emotions, she needed to get this stuff with Matt out of her system before it was too late. Adriana began her walk to her car, so she could get ready for a night with Matt Jackson.
“I SWEAR NONE OF THESE HOES ANSWER THE PHONE WHEN I NEED THEM!” Adriana threw her phone onto the bed after attempting to call Gabby, Parker, and Bri and of course they declined. Every. Single. Time. “Guess I have to go at this alone.” She sighed. She really missed talking to her friends, no matter how annoying they got. She would never feel complete without them.
She pushed her friends to the back of her mind as she threw clothes out of her suitcase. After 15 minutes deciding which bathing suit to wear she chose a normal two piece with some shorts and a normal tee to go over them. After she changed in the bathroom she grabbed everything she needed and headed out the door.
She pulled up to the stadium and parked confused on where to enter until her phone buzzed. Matt Jackson : I see your car, we’re the only ones here. So I’ll let you in.” Adriana chuckled. She got out the car fluffing her hair so she appealed somewhat decently. She saw Matt waiting for her at the entrance.
He picked his head up from his phone and let out a low whistle. “Well damn, I was not expecting this.” He fumbled with his keys as she rolled her eyes. When they finally got in he took her hand and led her to the pool. She removed her shorts and shirt as he did the same. Adriana dipped her toe in removing it as she felt how cold it was.
Before she could react she was pushed into the pool and when she got to the top for air she saw Matt jumping and doing a cannonball, making water go everywhere. Matt swam around a little before looking over to a shivering Adriana. “Yo-you’re an i-idiot.” Her teeth chattered making Matt laugh. “Ah, stop being a big baby and swim with me.” He slapped water onto her making her gasp. “I think I should wait till it gets w-warmer.” She smudged, making Matt swim over to her.
“I have a couple ways we could speed up the process.” She smirked. She wrapped her arms around his neck as he backed her up to the edge. He lightly pressed against her, making her let out a small whine. “If you’re going to do something just do it.” She said, clearly impatient. He pressed his lips onto hers, as she kissed back. He began to lower his hands trying to find the part to disconnect her bottom. She smirked into the kiss making him hungry for more as he pushed his tongue onto her bottom lip. She opened her mouth a little, only to hear a “IS ANYONE IN HERE?” Adriana tried to disconnect, but Matt pulled her back. “Whoever it is, will either go away soon or get a free show- I couldn’t care less.” Adriana pushed Matt off making him groan. She heard the door open and was shocked when Kenny Omega came out in swim trunks.
“Oh, it’s just you guys. What are you doing here?” he asked, confused. “Nothing much, just going for a late night swim.” Adriana lifted her finger to her mouth as she could feel her lip swollen at how hard Matt had bit it. Kenny nodded, “Right… mind if I join you?” He asked. Matt mumbled something too low to understand. “Of course, come on.” She smiled. “There it is again, that damn smile.” He felt weird seeing her in a bathing suit and it was even more weird seeing one of his best friends next to him.
Matt turnt around and faced Adriana , so Kenny couldn’t hear what he had to say, “He totally just cockblocked me. It had to be on purpose.” He whined. Adriana rolled his eyes, “He didn’t know. Leave him alone, let's just save our first time somewhere other than a public pool.” He scoffed, but he couldn’t stay mad at HER.
It was Kenny who was the problem, and he would make sure that he stayed out of the way.

With every title defense, Adam spilled more and more blood. He was always a smiling, exhausted mess of red whenever he found her. It was different this time. Due to the…intensity of Hangman Adam Page matches, Doc Sampson requested that she be with him ringside. It made sense to her and she tried to keep her face neutral as crimson stained the mat the longer the match went on.
Worry knotted her stomach something fierce. Although he cared about the title and she would never overlook that, she cared more about the man that went through hell every time someone so much as glanced at it. His hand hit the ringpost hard and her brow twitched as blood started to travel down his fingers in thin lines. He grit his teeth with determination and she wondered how it might affect his ability to hit the lariat as he climbed onto the apron.
Not that much, apparently. A cowboy wasn’t much known for letting go when it was too early and when he sent his opponent right onto his ass and got the pin, she finally breathed. Shook out her nerves as she got up from her spot and made her way over to him just as he started to step out.
His breathless smile almost leveled her and it grew when she frowned at him. Just like Adam Page to rile her up and soothe her all at once.
“We gotta stop meeting like this, sweetheart,” he said and she busied herself with checking his bleeding head. He looked at her through his lashes and she decidedly told herself that this wasn’t the right time to find him pretty. “I’m fine. Looks worse than it feels.”
“Uh-huh. Should really save us both some time and just dye your hair pink, handsome,” she said with a roll of her eyes as she pressed gauze against the slight gash on his forehead. He winced a little and she smiled. “Come on, let’s get you to the back.”
Adam sighed as he pulled himself to sit on her table. Blue eyes, accentuated by the red around them, watched as she prepped all that she needed. Bandages, antiseptic, gauze.
“It was nice havin’ you out there,” he admitted as she tended to his head first and got the blood off his face. Smoothed his fluffy hair out of the way so she could reveal skin from under that crimson mask of his. “I wasn’t worried about a thing. Just kept lookin’ over at you and I felt alright with it all.”
Her skin warmed under her scrubs and her hand lingered just under his jaw. His nose crinkled at the smell of antiseptic and she shook her head with a laugh.
“That bothers you but the blood doesn’t?” She shook her head and held the wound on his forehead together as she set a butterfly bandage across it. A sigh passed through her and she held his face again. “I liked being out there for you. I just…need to get used to you bleeding so damn much is all.”
He nodded and almost looked apologetic as she took his bloody hand in hers. Started to clean the blood from his fingers, under his nails. Cleaned the open wounds along his knuckles and started to bandage those too. When some of her hair fell in her eyes, he brushed it back. Smiled at her with warm eyes.
The pair grew comfortably quiet as she cleaned him up and when he was more man than a walking bloodbath, she met his eyes. Her hand hadn’t let go of his and he smiled softly down at their entwined fingers.
“Don’t do any shit like that for the next two weeks,” she said as she sat beside him on the table and leaned her head against his shoulder. “Promise?”
He squeezed her hand. Set his chin atop her head.
“Are you doctor’s orders-ing me?”
“Damn right I am.”

Callie awoke the next morning with an unmistakable knot in the pit of her stomach. Guilt.
It wasn’t regret. She didn’t regret sleeping with Matt. He had been… wonderful. Attentive. Caring. Passionate. He’d made her feel desired and alive in ways that she hadn’t in months. So long that she’d almost forgotten what it was like to feel like that. She’d missed it, craved it, more than she’d realized. And there was no one else she rather would have helped her find it again than Matt.
Which was precisely why she felt so guilty.
The covers shifted as he stirred next to her. She felt him roll over and snake his arm around her waist. She smiled and relaxed into his touch. She didn’t want to feel guilty about how Matt made her feel. She just wanted to feel it.
“Good morning,” she said. But he wasn’t quite awake.
“Mm,” he grunted in return.
She laughed and turned to face him. His long, thick hair was disheveled from sleep and had nearly fallen out of its bun. She reached out and brushed a stray strand back from his face. “I was thinking about going to get Starbucks. Do you want anything?”
He didn’t open his eyes as he answered. “Yeah, but I’ll get it, babe. Just gimme few more minutes.”
Callie’s pulse quickened. Babe. She chalked it up to him being half-asleep. “It’s okay, I don’t mind,” she insisted. “You want your usual?”
He nodded. She smiled and kissed his cheek, slipped out from underneath his arm, and climbed out of bed. Their clothes were scattered on the floor, remnants of the night before. She grabbed her joggers and pulled them on along with the closest shirt she could find—Matt’s Young Bucks t-shirt—and then she threw her hair in a bun, slipped on her sneakers, grabbed her phone and wallet, and went out the door.
The nearest Starbucks was just a five-minute walk from the hotel, but she was in no rush to get there. It was a beautiful morning, and she needed the air—especially after Matt had let that pet name slip. She did her best to clear her thoughts of it as she arrived at the coffee shop. She queued behind a man in a business suit and pulled out her phone like everyone else. But, not long afterward, someone unexpected joined the line behind her.
“Late night?”
Callie’s stomach lurched. She’d know that voice anywhere. Adam.
“Not really,” she responded without fully turning around. She was suddenly exceptionally aware that she was wearing Matt’s shirt. She didn’t want him to see it.
But then it came her turn to order—and there was no hiding that she was getting two coffees to go. She spoke as softly as she could when she told the barista what she wanted and, as soon as she paid, turned and hurried past Adam to a table by the window, flustered. Of course this would happen. Of course she would run into him the morning after she’d slept with Matt, getting coffee for him, wearing his fucking shirt. She looked warily back at him as she sat down. She just wanted to keep an eye on him… but she found herself starting to stare as he pulled out his wallet. Admiring the way his t-shirt stretched over his biceps. How well his jeans fit him. She started to get lost in her thoughts—but then he turned toward her. She quickly looked away, back down at her phone. But not quick enough. It wasn’t long before he was standing in front of her.
“Where’s lover boy?”
She glared up at him. “He’s not my lover boy.”
Adam rolled his eyes. “Oh come on, Cal. Hair up, glasses on, wearing his t-shirt. This has walk-of-shame written all over it.”
Callie’s brow lowered. “Well it’s not a walk of shame if I’m going right back to him, is it?”
She regretted it almost as soon as she said it. Hurt flashed in his eyes. But it was gone in an instant, replaced with nothing but resentment.
“So he made you go get the coffee?” He scoffed. “What a gentleman.”
“I offered to get it,” she snipped. “And what are you so upset about? You’re more than free to move on with Alex now.”
“Oh, am I? Well you might want to let her know that, because she went home with Kenny last night.”
Callie faltered. She didn’t know what to make of the sarcasm in his tone. Was he trying to mask his hurt? Or was he just being an asshole?
“Callie!”
The barista called out her name not a second too soon. She looked Adam in the eye as she stood from her seat. “Well, it’s not my problem that she rejected you,” she spat. “At least now you know how it feels.”
She shouldered past him, grabbed the coffees from the counter, and pushed out the door back into the morning air. She walked much more swiftly back to the hotel than she had to Starbucks. She knocked on the door when she got back to the room, too agitated to bother with trying to fish out her key card while balancing two coffees. Matt answered in just his sweatpants.
“That was quick,” he noted as she breezed past him into the room.
“Yeah. Oh,” she stopped and turned around to hand him his coffee. “Here.”
“Thanks…” he trailed off as he took it from her, his brow furrowed. Callie wasn’t surprised when he asked, “Are you okay? You seem flustered.”
“Yeah.” She breathed out and took a sip of her coffee as he shut the door. “I just ran into Adam at Starbucks. It was… awkward.”
Matt’s eyebrows arched. “Oh.” His eyes flicked down to her shirt. His shirt. “I guess he assumed…?”
“Yeah.”
He frowned. Callie fidgeted. Now it was awkward between them. But she didn’t anticipate what he said next.
“Do you regret it?”
Her eyes widened. “What? No,” she answered with a shake of her head. She walked over and gave him a reassuring kiss. “Not at all. I just would’ve preferred not to run into my ex the morning after.”
She inwardly winced at that word. Ex. It still hurt to think of Adam that way. She still loved him; that wouldn’t go away overnight.
But the feel of Matt’s arms around her helped.
“Well, forget about him,” he said. “Let’s go out today. Get away from everyone.”
A smile pulled at the corners of Callie’s lips. That sounded like a perfect idea. “Okay. I’m gonna jump in the shower.” She shot him a smirk as she pulled away. “Want to join me?”
He groaned. “All my stuff is back in my room.”
“So?” She peeled his shirt over her head and tossed it aside. His eyes drank in the sight of her.
“Twist my arm, why don’t you,” he said, and he grabbed her hand and pulled her into the bathroom.

Adam didn’t know what to think. He didn’t know what to feel. He didn’t know where to go from here. He didn’t want to go back, but he couldn’t see a way forward, either. And the kicker was that he’d done it to himself.
He’d considered turning around and walking right back out when he’d seen Callie standing in line at Starbucks. And after their interaction, he wished he had turned around and left. He didn’t want to know that she’d been with Matt last night. He didn’t want to think about him touching her body the way that he used to touch it, making her feel the things that he used to make her feel. He didn’t want to know that their relationship was barely two weeks in the ground and she’d already jumped into bed with another guy. And not just any guy—Matt-fucking-Jackson. Literally anyone else would have been better than Matt; Nick would have been better than Matt. But, ironically, he wasn’t surprised that it was Matt. Adam knew Matt had always had a thing for Callie; he’d known it from the day Matt had introduced her to him. But he’d never thought anything of it, never worried about it, not even when Matt would flirt with her right in front of him. He was his friend; he wouldn’t seriously try to move in on his girl like that.
He’d been wrong on both counts.
But, as hurt and upset as he was, Adam knew he didn’t have any room to judge Callie. Not really. Not after where his mind had gone last night.
He’d needed a physical release last night. He’d needed to unburden himself of the drunken, thoughtless way he’d kissed Callie; of the stress and tension and anxiety he’d been carrying for weeks. And so, alone in his hotel room, he’d taken care of it—and he’d thought about Alex. He’d thought about how her lips would feel wrapped around his dick, how she’d look underneath him as she took him, how she’d sound moaning his name. It wasn’t the first time he’d gotten himself off thinking about her, but he hadn’t done it in years, since long before he’d met Callie. And after he’d finished, he hadn’t been able to stop himself from texting her.
Hey, are you at the hotel?
Her response had gutted him.
No… I’m actually on my way to Kenny’s.
He hadn’t said anything else after that, and neither had she. He wasn’t sure what would have happened if she had been at the hotel. He wasn’t sure what he’d been hoping for when he’d texted her. But he didn’t want to think about it. Just like he didn’t want to think about the fact that Callie was with Matt right now.
He walked back into the hotel and crossed through the lobby, but he slowed before he could reach the elevators. Chuck nodded in greeting as he, Trent, and Orange walked toward him.
“Hey, Hangman. What’s up?”
He shrugged. “Oh you know, just went to Starbucks and ran into Callie getting morning-after coffee for Matt. So... yeah. What’s up with y’all?”
He took a sip of his coffee as they all stared back at him, unblinking. Maybe he shouldn’t have volunteered so much information, but he couldn’t help it—he was emotional. But before he could excuse himself and disappear, Trent said, “Well that fucking sucks. We’re going to get breakfast. Wanna come with?”
The offer surprised Adam. Why the hell would they want him to come with them? He’d just drag down the mood. Besides, he didn’t want to go with them. He wanted to go back upstairs to his room and wallow in self-pity.
But then he thought of Alex again. She’d tell him to snap the fuck out of it.
“Fuck it,” he decided. “Sure.”
“Cool,” Trent returned.
They all started toward the exit. Chuck fell in step beside him. “If you’re wondering where Alex is, she went to Kenny’s last night.”
Adam frowned down at his coffee cup. “Yeah. I know,” he said. That was another thing he didn’t want to think about.

“C’mon, c’mon, c’mon!”
“Alex, don’t just mash buttons. You need to do combos.”
“But this—is—working!”
Alex stuck out her tongue in concentration as she furiously mashed the buttons on the game controller. She and Kenny had been playing this stupid Street Fighter game for forty minutes now, and she absolutely refused to quit until she won at least one—
“K.O.!”
She dropped the controller to her lap, defeated. Again. Kenny curled his lips into his mouth. He was trying desperately not to laugh.
“It’s not funny!” Alex scowled. She was far too competitive for her own good.
He gave her an apologetic grin. “I’m sorry, baby. That round was better.”
She rolled her eyes. “You’re just saying that.”
“I’m not,” he assured. And then, “I think it was the first time you lasted past three minutes.”
“Kenny!” She gasped and grabbed a throw pillow from the couch. “I could say the same about you last night!”
She swung and whacked him with the pillow. “Whoa!” She reared back again, and he held up his arm to block the blow. “Uncalled for and untrue!”
She smirked. “Come on, you walked right into that.”
She swung again; but he caught the other end of the pillow and used it to pull her closer. “Oh yeah? Well I certainly didn’t hear you complain last night.”
Alex bit back a bashful grin. No, she definitely hadn’t complained last night. Last night had been… indescribable. Normally with Kenny it was a frantic rush to rip off clothes as they blindly stumbled and pushed each other to the nearest available surface. Rough and quick. Fucking. But last night had been different. He’d undressed her deliberately, like he wanted to memorize every curve of her body, every mark on her skin. He’d carried her to his bed and laid her down gently. He’d paid more attention to her needs than his, pleasuring her completely, slow and deep as she’d clutched at the sheets, his back, his hair, riding wave after wave until she couldn’t handle it anymore. He’d made love to her. She’d felt what she meant to him, undoubtedly. She’d felt it that morning when she’d woken up next to him and he’d told her to stay in bed while he made them breakfast. She felt it now. And, more than anything, she hoped that he felt what he meant to her, too. She didn’t want him to doubt that anymore.
“C’mere,” he gently said. He moved the pillow from in between them, and Alex snuggled against him as he wrapped his arm around her. “I’m sorry for teasing you,” he said with a kiss on her head. “I know video games aren’t your thing.”
She let out a sarcastic laugh. “And that’s not a deal-breaker?”
“What?” he shot, incredulous. “That’s ridiculous. Why would it be a deal-breaker?”
Alex’s face burned with embarrassment. She shouldn’t have said that; she didn’t know how to explain it without incriminating Adam. And she had to explain it now. “I don’t know,” she muttered. “It was one of the arguments people made back in June about why we shouldn’t be together, because I don’t play video games. It’s dumb; I shouldn’t have listened to it.”
There was a thick, contemplative pause. And then Kenny said, “And by ‘people’ I assume you mean ‘Adam.’”
Alex didn’t say anything in response. Her silence spoke volumes.
Kenny squeezed her closer. “Do you remember what you said to me at the hotel the night we first got back together? After your match against Callie and your fight with Trent?”
She looked up at him, her face a question mark. He went on.
“You said, ‘Fuck what anyone thinks. We worked things out and that’s all that matters.’ Well… now I’m saying the same thing to you.”
Alex glanced away, chewing anxiously on her lip. She did remember saying that now. She wished she would have taken her own advice.
“I couldn’t care less that video games aren’t your thing,” he assured her. “But you know they’re my thing, and you care enough about that to try. That means a lot to me. And besides… I actually think it’s adorable how frustrated you get.”
Warmth spread throughout Alex’s core. It meant a lot to him. He meant a lot to her. She needed him to know, once and for all. “Well, I care about the things you care about. Because I love you.”
She looked back up at him. He smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. He looked so happy. “Yeah?”
She nodded. “Yeah.”
Kenny tilted her lips toward his and kissed her, soft and sweet. “I love you too, baby,” he said, and Alex’s heart was so full that it felt like it would burst out of her chest. They’d taken the long way around to get here, but they’d made it… and she finally felt like she could rest.
* * * * * * * * * *
Callie couldn’t get rid of that knot in her stomach. It had only grown larger and more solid after she’d run into Adam at Starbucks. And, after a while, the focus of her guilt had started to shift.
Matt had been an absolute sweetheart all afternoon. He’d taken her to the beach because he knew how much she loved it. They’d walked along the boardwalk and out onto the pier, and he’d held her close and smiled big as she’d taken their picture in the midst of the ocean. He’d even waited patiently as she’d gone through the shops picking out clothes and trying them on (she’d rewarded him by modeling a few bikinis). And now, as they sat in a cute little café getting something to eat, she couldn’t help but watch him with a smile on her lips as he looked over the menu, admiring his long lashes and hair, his beard and jawline. He made her heart flutter.
So then why couldn’t she stop thinking about Adam?
The waiter brought them their drinks. They put in their order, and as they handed him the menus, Matt told him it would all be on one check. Callie blushed as the waiter nodded and walked away.
“You don’t have to pay for me,” she said.
“I know, but I want to,” he returned. “Besides, I owe you for getting the coffee this morning.”
“This’ll be more than the coffee.”
“Are you sure about that? We got Starbucks.”
She laughed. “Fair point. Well, thank you.” She crossed her right knee over her left, and her foot bumped his leg underneath the table. “Sorry,” she muttered and shifted in her seat. He gave her a quizzical smile.
“Okay, what’s up?”
She took a sip of her iced tea. “What do you mean?”
“I mean you’ve been tense all day. What’s on your mind?”
Callie grabbed her straw wrapper from the tabletop and nervously wound it around her finger. That was a loaded question—and she wasn’t sure she was ready to unload. “I know I’ve been tense,” she said. “I’m sorry.”
He shook his head. “Don’t apologize; just talk to me. I want you to feel like you can talk to me about anything.”
“I do feel that way,” she returned. “It’s just…”
She trailed off. Matt finished her thought for her. “Adam?”
She wound the straw wrapper so tightly around her index finger that the tip turned red. “Is it that obvious?” she muttered.
He pulled his mouth to one side. “Well, you’ve seemed a little off ever since you ran into him this morning so… yeah.”
She frowned. “I’m sor—”
“Callie,” he gently cut her off. “Stop. Just talk to me. You’re not gonna hurt my feelings.”
Callie glanced down at her hands. On the contrary, her fear of hurting him was the exact reason she didn’t want to tell him what was on her mind. But Matt had been nothing but open and honest with her. She needed to do the same.
“I like this. A lot,” she said. “I like being with you, more than I expected to so soon. And I don’t regret anything. But… I’m not completely over Adam yet.”
She held her breath, bracing herself for his reaction, anticipating the worst—
“I don’t expect you to be.”
She breathed out. “What?”
Matt’s eyes were soft and understanding as he looked at her across the table. “I don’t expect you to be completely over Adam yet. It’s only been what, a week-and-a-half since you ended things with him? And in one of the most dramatic fashions possible,” he said with a smirk. “It’ll take time to get over that. Longer than a week-and-a-half.”
Callie’s brow furrowed. She was relieved, unbelievably so. But she was also confused. “But that doesn’t bother you? After we… you know.”
He smirked. “Not really. I mean, not to sound cocky, but I’m pretty sure you weren’t thinking about him last night or this morning.”
Her cheeks colored and she rolled her eyes. “You absolutely meant to sound cocky.”
Matt’s grin widened. He knew he had, too. “But no, it doesn’t bother me,” he assured. “I like you, Callie. A part of me always has, even when you were with Hangman. But I know this has all happened pretty fast, and I don’t want to push you. So as long as you’re honest with me about what you’re feeling and what you want, we’ll be good.”
Callie’s heart fluttered again. She didn’t know what she’d done to deserve someone as sweet and understanding as Matt. But she did know she didn’t want to lose him. “Okay. I can do that,” she said; and as he smiled at her, she did her best to bury the thought of Adam’s kiss in the back of consciousness.

Saturday... All Out
Alex was a bundle of nervous energy as Kenny pulled up to Daily’s Place Saturday afternoon. Today was the day: All Out. Her anxiety over it hadn’t let her get a wink of sleep last night, so much so that she worried she’d affected Kenny’s sleep with all her tossing and turning. But as they got out of his car and grabbed their suitcases from the trunk, he looked like his only concern was her.
“Are you alright?” He caught her hand in his. “You’ve been quiet all day.”
She tried to nod. “Yeah. I’m just…” she trailed off and changed her mind. “No. I’m nervous about your match. And about seeing the boys.”
“Don’t be nervous about the match,” he said with a gentle squeeze of her hand. “That’s for me to worry about. And why are you nervous about seeing your friends?”
Alex frowned. She couldn’t help but notice how he’d said the match was for him to worry about—not him and Adam. But she tried not to dwell on it. “Because I’m nervous I’ll walk in there and it’ll just be a repeat of three months ago. I’m sick of everyone trying to tell me what’s best for me.”
She glanced back at the arena, worry darkening her eyes. None of the boys had seemed thrilled when she’d told them she was leaving with Kenny on Wednesday, but they hadn’t put up any arguments, either. She hoped they hadn’t saved it for today.
Kenny let go of her hand and brought his up to cup either side of her face. She looked up into his eyes, gripping his wrists as he held her. “Remember what I told you?”
Her brow puckered. “Fuck what anyone thinks?”
“Fuck what anyone thinks,” he repeated.
She pressed her fingers into his skin. “I care what they think, Kenny. They’re my best friends.”
“I know.” He let out a breath and touched his lips to her forehead. “And because they’re your best friends, they should support you when you’re happy. Right?”
She frowned again. “You would think so.”
“Then don’t be nervous,” he said with another kiss on her forehead. He pulled back and looked down at her. “I’m sure it won’t be a repeat of three months ago. And if it is… it’s their problem, not yours.”
Alex lifted her heels off the ground and kissed him. “You’re right,” she breathed. “But speaking of your friends… don’t take it personally if I go out of my way to avoid Matt.”
“I’ll talk to Matt,” he returned. “Don’t worry about him, either. He’ll come around.”
She gave him a small, grateful grin. But she wouldn’t hold her breath on Matt coming around.
He shut the trunk and locked the car, and then he took her hand again, interlacing their fingers as they walked into the arena. And Alex realized, with some surprise, that she didn’t care if anyone saw them. She was with Kenny; he was with her. She didn’t want to hide that.
But they had to part ways once they got to the locker rooms. They shared a lingering kiss as Alex told him she’d see him later—she knew he’d be busy until after the show was over—and then she continued down the hall toward the Best Friends locker room. She drew in a deep breath through her nose, let it out through her mouth. “There’s nothing to be nervous about, Alex,” she said to herself. “They’re your best friends.” She steeled herself when she arrived at the door, pushed her way inside. Chuck, Trent, and Orange were all already there—and so was Adam.
She stopped just inside the entrance, her eyes wide and surprised. “Oh! Hey. I wasn’t expecting to see you in here.”
Adam looked even more caught off-guard to see her than she did him. “Yeah… Chuck said I could share with y’all. It’s a full house tonight and I don’t really have anywhere else to go because of… you know.”
She nodded. “Yeah. Of course.” She pulled her suitcase toward a cubby, doing her best to seem unbothered. But seeing Adam had thrown her off more than she’d expected it would. The text he’d sent her Wednesday night flashed in her mind. Hey, are you at the hotel? She’d thought about it more than she cared to admit over the last two-and-a-half days. Prior to two weeks ago, she wouldn’t have thought much of it at all. But now that she knew how he felt, she couldn’t help but wonder what his intentions had been.
“Hangy’s been hangin’ with us the last few days,” Chuck stated as she sat down. “Cowpals is a thing now.”
“It’s not a thing,” Adam returned. Chuck glared at him.
“Just let it happen, Adam!”
He grinned. So did Alex. “I agree with Chuck,” she said. She exchanged a glance with Adam as she unzipped her suitcase—a feeling. They’d always have each other’s back, no matter the circumstances.
“So do I,” Trent piped up. He looked at Alex. “All we were missing was you.”
He didn’t say it negatively. In fact, it was quite the opposite. We missed you. That was what she felt from it. Warmth.
“Well, I’m here now,” she smiled, and her anxiety loosened its grip when he smiled back. They were her best friends. Nothing would change that.
* * * * * * * * * *
Callie had never spent much time in the EVP room. But now here she was, sitting on the couch next to Matt, watching as the All Out Buy In pre-show got underway. It was nice. She could get used to it.
“So are you gonna come out with us for our match orrrr…?”
She shot Matt a look. “I’m not even gonna justify that with a response.”
A corner of his mouth quirked up. “Why not?”
Her eyebrows arched. “Seriously? I’m not accompanying you for your match, Matt. That’s just asking for trouble.”
“Trouble from who? Everyone’s about to find out that we’re wrestling together against Trent and Alex next week. What’s the difference?”
Callie looked down to pick at a loose string on her jeans. He wasn’t wrong—Tony had made the mixed tag match official earlier that afternoon, and Callie wouldn’t be surprised if the commentators mentioned it during the show tonight. But there was a difference between wrestling a match with Matt next week and accompanying the Young Bucks for their match against Jurassic Express. There was a big difference.
“There’s a difference, and you know there is,” she softly insisted. “I’m not going out there with you.”
She kept her gaze turned anxiously away from him. Ever since their talk at that little café two days ago, a nagging voice in the back of her head had kept worrying that, even though Matt had said he didn’t want to push her, he would only wait so long for her to get over Adam. Now, she worried he’d take her resistance the wrong way. But she had her reasons—completely valid reasons. She didn’t want people to assume things about their relationship; she didn’t want to invite their criticism and judgment. But, more than that, she didn’t want to rub her budding relationship with Matt in Adam’s face—and especially not tonight. He had a tag title match he needed to focus on tonight.
“Callie,” Matt said. The soft urgency in his voice beckoned her to look at him. “It’s fine. I was only joking.”
She gave him a tight smile. She believed him… but part of her still worried.
He leaned over and gave her a kiss. “Speaking of the match… I should go get ready. You can hang out here if you want.”
Her brow furrowed at him as he got up from the couch. “By myself? I’m not an EVP.”
“No… but you’re sleeping with one.”
He smirked. She scowled. He let out a laugh and bent over to give her another kiss. “I’ll let you know when it’s safe to come back to the locker room. I’m sure Nick’s changing now, too.”
She nodded. “Okay.”
He gave her a wink and went out the door. And as it clicked shut behind him, that little voice in the back of her head nagged at her again.
* * * * * * * * * *
There was an undeniable electricity in the air—a big fight feel. Because it was a big fight: Kenny Omega and Hangman Adam Page vs. FTR for the AEW World Tag Team Championship. And Alex was almost certain she was more nervous than the people who were actually fighting.
Her hands were clammy as she walked through the halls to the Best Friends locker room. She wanted to walk with Adam to meet Kenny, so she could wish them both good luck before they headed to Gorilla. She wanted to stay out of their way as much as possible. She prayed they were on the same page tonight.
She entered the locker room just as Adam stood from his seat. He glanced at her as he grabbed his championship. “Hey. What’s up?”
“Just thought I’d go with you to meet Kenny,” she answered. She curiously looked him over. He was wearing black and white tights designed to look like chaps instead of his usual trunks. “New gear?”
He glanced down at himself and shrugged. “Yeah. Big pay-per-view match, I figured why not.”
She nodded. “I like it.”
A smile pulled at his lips. But it disappeared fast. “Well, I was just about to head to his locker room.”
She nodded again, and they went back out the door. She saw him look at her out of the corner of her eye as they walked. “Are you watching with the guys?” he asked.
“Yeah. They’re in one of the lounges with Jurassic Express and a few others.” She drew in a breath. “I might see if I can get a drink before I head back there.”
He gave a wry laugh. “That nervous?”
She looked up at him. “Aren’t you?”
His eyes turned contemplative. “I’m nervous, yeah. But not necessarily about losing the titles.”
Alex frowned. She wasn’t as nervous about them losing the titles as she was about other things, either.
They arrived at The Elite’s locker room. Adam raised a fist and knocked. Half a minute passed before Kenny answered, dressed in his usual gear, his AEW Tag Team Championship already around his waist. He smiled when he saw Alex.
“Hey. You coming up there with us?”
She shook her head. “No, I don’t want to get in your way. I just wanted to wish you good luck before you went up there.”
He flashed a cocky grin. “I don’t need it.”
Alex rolled her eyes. I—not we. Again. She tried to ignore it just like she had earlier. “Well, kick their asses, then.” She reached up and kissed him, tender but quick. She didn’t want to do too much in front of Adam. Kenny smirked again as she pulled away.
“You know I will.”
She gave him a nervous smile, and then she turned to Adam. She stood on her toes and gave him a hug. He momentarily stiffened before he returned it. “Good luck,” she said.
“Thanks.”
She unwound her arms from around him and stepped back. “I’ll see you after,” she said to Kenny, and with a parting glance she retreated back down the hall, her stomach in knots. She half-wanted to find somewhere to watch the match alone, in the interest of self-preservation. Then again, maybe she wouldn’t take it so hard if she watched with her friends. Either way, she kept walking toward the lounge; and when she arrived and saw Trent opening up a bottle of red wine, she made a beeline for him.
“Wine?” she charged. Alcohol was alcohol, but still.
He gave her a look. “We’re classy, Alex. I don’t know how many times I have to tell you that.”
“A few hundred more,” she quipped. It earned a grin. He grabbed a glass and gave her a healthy pour. She took a long sip as she moved to one of the couches and sat down next to Chuck. He gave her a sympathetic smile.
“How you feeling?”
She laughed into her glass. “Like I’m gonna need a whole bottle to myself.”
* * * * * * * * * *
Alex had been joking—but the more she watched, the more she thought she probably would need a whole bottle to herself to get through this match.
Every minute brought with it a fresh wave of anxiety. Her entire body had tensed when the match had nearly started with Kenny and Cash, only for her heart to drop into her stomach when Adam had called to start it off instead, asking Kenny, “Do you trust me?” She didn’t know what Kenny had said in return—his back had been to the camera. When the match finally got underway, Adam had locked up with Cash like he wanted to murder him. He’d gone after him so aggressively that Dax had jumped in to intervene, and then Kenny had, too, obviously worried that Adam’s emotions were running away with him. He was proven right when Adam nearly swung on him. They’d worked through it… but Dax and Cash were firing on all cylinders. They’d managed to isolate Adam first and then Kenny, punishing them each in turn. And even when Adam and Kenny were able to pick up the pace and work together, it had been painfully obvious over the last fifteen minutes that, despite being the champions, they weren’t the tag team specialists in the match. FTR were.
Kenny and Cash were the legal men now. Adam was somewhere outside the ring, out of commission after Cash had shoved him off the ring apron and sent him flying into the guard railing. Kenny had hit a Tiger Driver ’98 and gone for the cover, but Cash had kicked out at two and dragged himself to the ropes. But Kenny didn’t give him much of a chance to recoup. He charged at the opposite ropes, rebounded, and nailed Cash with a V-Trigger to the side of the head. Then he picked him up on his shoulders. He was setting up the One-Winged Angel. Alex held her breath and grabbed Chuck’s knee—but Cash quickly got out of his hold.
“You want a refill?” Chuck asked.
She just nodded and handed him her glass, keeping her eyes glued on the TV. Cash shoved Kenny into the corner and charged, but Kenny dodged and reversed, pushing Cash into the corner. Dax made a hot tag. Kenny charged again, going for another V-Trigger—but Cash moved out of the way at the last second. Kenny’s knee rammed hard into the turnbuckle.
“Fuck,” Alex cursed under breath.
Chuck returned with her wine. She thanked him and immediately took a drink; and then nearly choked on it when she saw Cash swing Kenny’s leg through the ropes and Dax grab his ankle for a vicious dragon screw leg whip.
“You alright?” Chuck asked.
Alex nodded even though she wasn’t. Cash spun Kenny around and hit another dragon screw. And then Dax slid into the ring and latched on an inverted figure four leg lock.
“Shit,” Trent said from the other side of Chuck. Chuck elbowed him. Alex’s stomach dropped. That was the exact move Dax had used on Chuck to beat Best Friends in the tag team gauntlet match.
Dax grabbed the ropes for leverage, but the referee didn’t see it. Kenny did his best to stay up on his shoulder in order to keep the pressure off his knee. But he still looked like he was agony.
“And remember, this is how they made Chuck Taylor tap out in order to punch their ticket into this match,” Excalibur commented.
“Thanks for the reminder, Excalibur!” Chuck shouted at the TV, causing a few people in the room to laugh. Alex wasn’t one of them. She didn’t breathe again until Kenny managed to reach the ropes, forcing Dax to break the hold.
Kenny laid on the mat, nursing his knee—but Dax got right back on him. He grabbed his leg and dropped a few elbows on his knee before he put all his bodyweight on his thigh and bent Kenny’s leg at an unnatural angle around his torso. Kenny grabbed at his head, his arm, anything to try to get out of the hold; but Dax just got up, dragged him to the ropes, draped his ankle across it, and smashed himself down hard onto his leg. Alex worried at her lip. Adam was back up on the ring apron now, but Kenny was nowhere near him.
Dax tagged in Cash. Cash jumped to the floor and held Kenny’s ankle across the rope so that Dax could throw all his bodyweight down onto his leg one more time before they switched. He slid into the ring and stomped Kenny’s head, making Alex scowl; but then Kenny sat up and rolled under the ropes to the floor. He limped over to the guard railing and latched onto it, doing his best to keep himself upright.
Alex felt her chest start to tighten. She felt so helpless. All she could do was take another drink.
* * * * * * * * * *
Callie was starting to regret watching the tag title match with Matt and Nick. They were all cheering for the same team—but it was obvious that Matt and Nick expected Kenny to do all the work. It irked her. So when Adam had finally tagged in and started clearing house, she couldn’t help but feel a little vindicated.
She nervously watched as he ascended a turnbuckle, knowing immediately that he was going for a moonsault. She both loved and hated that move; she loved seeing it, but it always scared her when he did it. But then, he didn’t do a moonsault. Tully urged Cash and Dax to come to the other side of the turnbuckle—and so Adam pivoted and did a senton instead.
“Tremendous improvisation there by Hangman Adam Page,” Excalibur stated. Callie smiled to herself. But Matt pursed his lips.
“More like unnecessary risk,” he commented.
It was a struggle for Callie not to roll her eyes. Matt and Nick were arguably the biggest daredevils in the entire company. Either of them would have done the same exact thing.
Back in the ring, Adam went for the cover on Cash—but he kicked out at two. After they both got to their feet, they traded blows in the middle of the ring before Cash attempted another swinging DDT; Dax made another blind tag as he did. But Adam blocked the move and hit Dax with a back elbow, knocking him to the floor. He and Cash jockeyed for position until Adam gained control and drove him toward the ropes; but Dax hopped back up onto the apron and hit Adam with a forearm. He dove into the ring and covered him. Adam kicked out at two.
“They’re deadly with those blind tags, man,” Nick said.
Both Matt and Callie kept quiet as they watched Cash and Dax ascend the turnbuckles. They jumped simultaneously and hit Adam with tandem diving headbutts. Cash was the legal man again and he hooked Adam’s leg. That time, Kenny dove in and broke up the pin attempt. Callie half-expected a smart-ass comment from Matt. Thankfully, he didn’t make one.
Kenny and Dax were battling on the ring apron now. Each of them tried to suplex the other, but each attempt was blocked, until Dax ended up back inside the ring, his head still locked underneath Kenny’s arm and vice versa. But then, suddenly, Cash charged and launched himself over the ropes and flipped to the floor. He grabbed Kenny and picked him up on his shoulders, and Dax jumped off the ring apron and hit him with a diving bulldog to the floor.
Matt and Nick expelled twin breaths of exasperation. Callie’s mouth went dry. She wiped her hands on her jeans and got up from the couch to cross the room and grab a water bottle from the mini fridge. She opened it and took a long gulp. By the time she looked back at the TV, Cash was back in the ring with Adam. Adam tried to hit him with a short-arm lariat, but Cash reversed it and landed a forearm to the back of the head. Then he lifted Adam up on his shoulders. He walked over to FTR’s corner and tagged in Dax. Dax climbed the turnbuckle and hit Adam with a diving bulldog to match Kenny’s. He went for yet another cover, but Adam powered out.
“Hangman needs to tag in Kenny,” Matt said.
Callie shot him a look. “Kenny’s not even in their corner!” she argued, motioning to where he’d collapsed against the ring apron. Matt ignored her.
Dax pulled Adam up by the hair and reached out to tag in Cash. Cash climbed the turnbuckle again—but Kenny jumped up onto the apron and pushed him off balance. Meanwhile in the ring, Adam reversed Dax’s hold and dumped him over the ropes onto the floor. Cash tried to get back into position atop the turnbuckle; but before he could, Adam jumped up onto the second rope, picked him up, and hit a lungbuster suplex into the middle of the ring. Callie held her breath as he went for the pin—but Cash somehow managed to kick out.
“Fuck,” she breathed. She walked over to the couch and sat back down next to Matt, further away than she’d been before.
Kenny yelled something at Adam from outside the ring. Adam beckoned him. “Last Call!” he shouted. Callie tensed. She didn’t have a good feeling about this.
Kenny got into the ring while Adam went out onto the ring apron. Cash struggled to get up from his knees in the middle of the canvas. Kenny picked him up by his hair and held him by the arms. Adam flipped over the ropes and careened toward them, on-target for a hard Buckshot Lariat—but Cash ducked. Callie’s hand flew to her mouth; he’d nearly hit Kenny instead. And then, disaster. Adam grabbed Cash. Kenny charged, aiming to land a V-Trigger. But Cash pulled free at the last second, and Kenny’s knee collided with Adam’s jaw with an audible smack!
“Fuck!” Matt cursed.
Kenny tried to catch Adam, but Cash hit him with a chop block to the back of his injured knee and they both fell to the Matt. Kenny reached out and grabbed ahold of the fringe on Adam’s tights, pulling and jerking, trying to revive him. When that didn’t work, he smacked his leg. But Adam was completely out of it.
Cash pulled Adam away from Kenny and then hit Kenny with a basement dropkick, sending him rolling into the corner. He jumped up and tagged in Dax. Dax climbed the turnbuckle while Cash picked up Adam, upside down. Dax jumped, and they hit Adam with a perfect Mind Breaker. Dax went for the pin, grinning wickedly at Kenny as he tried to crawl toward him. He anticipated a three-count.
But Adam got his shoulder up at two.
“Holy shit,” Nick leaned eagerly forward on his knees. Matt remained quiet.
But Cash and Dax didn’t waste any time. Cash battled Kenny and shoved him under the ropes to the floor while Dax dragged Adam back onto his feet. Cash tagged in and ascended the turnbuckle. Dax picked up Adam. Cash jumped, delivering another Mind Breaker. He pinned Adam. Dax intercepted Kenny as he tried to dive through the ropes, but he didn’t need to. That time, Adam didn’t kick out.
Disbelief and dread consumed Callie as FTR’s music started to play. The crowd was mostly silent as Justin Roberts’s voice echoed throughout the arena. “The winners of this match, and new AEW World Tag Team Champions: F—T—R!”
Matt pushed himself up. “Come on, let’s go,” he said to Nick.
Callie looked up at him in confusion. “What’re you gonna do?”
He shot her a look over his shoulder. “Try to talk Kenny down,” he returned, and then they both exited, leaving her alone in the locker room.
She stared at the door, stunned, unsure what to do. She looked back at the TV. FTR hoisted the titles high above their heads while Tully brought them two cans of beer. She expected them to crack them open and drink in celebration—but they didn’t. Instead, they set the beers next to Adam, who still laid clutching his head on the mat, as if to toast him. Thanks, bud, we couldn’t have done it without you.
She kept watching as they continued to celebrate, waiting for Matt and Nick to burst out from the tunnels. But they never did. Soon, FTR left, and the former champions were left alone. Adam leaned against the ropes, still not quite all there—and Kenny stood in the middle of the ring, a small folding table in his hands.
Callie’s breath hitched in her throat. Kenny held the table up, gripping it hard, an angry, contemplative look in his eyes. Seconds passed like minutes. And then, he tossed the table aside. Relief flooded her; but it was premature. Adam stumbled toward Kenny, and instead of catching him, Kenny moved out of the way and let him collapse face-first to the mat like a felled tree.
She would have preferred that he hit him with the table.
“Where the fuck are Matt and Nick?” she said out loud. Kenny gazed down at Adam’s prone form, a look of quiet disgust on his face. He exited the ring and stalked up the entrance ramp. He paused on the stage to give Adam one last hard look, and then he turned and walked through the tunnel.
The camera stayed on him as he moved swiftly through Gorilla and toward backstage. Matt and Nick stood waiting for him in the interview area. Kenny started yelling.
“Did you see that? Did you see that there? After everything I did!”
“Hey, hey, hey,” Matt tried to say; but Kenny pushed through them and kept walking.
“I’m done. We’re done. Let’s go.”
Callie’s eyes widened as she continued to watch. Matt turned and followed after Kenny without hesitation. Nick was more hesitant, but he followed, too.
Kenny and Matt continued to talk, but Callie couldn’t understand what they were saying as the commentators tried to figure out what was happening. They moved into the parking lot and Kenny pointed toward a waiting SUV. “I’m done. Are you guys coming with me?”
“Oh fuck no,” Callie muttered.
Matt continued to try to talk him down, but he didn’t try to stop him from walking. “Let’s sit down and talk about what’s going on right now. I know it’s…” he trailed off, unsure what to say.
“It’s time for a clean split… a clean break,” Kenny said. “Let’s go back to the way things were.”
They reached the SUV. He finally stopped and looked back at Matt and Nick. “Are you coming with me or not? It’s up to you—you can’t go back on this.”
Neither of them answered. Kenny didn’t have the patience for it.
“Okay, think about it—think about it. I’ll see you guys.” He looked at the driver. “Get in the car! We’re going,” he ordered. And then he got in the backseat of the SUV, slammed the door, and drove off, leaving Matt and Nick—and everyone else—stunned and confused.
* * * * * * * * * *
Alex walked on shaky legs through the hotel lobby, pulling her suitcase behind her. She reached the elevators and punched the up button, angry. She felt like a tea kettle ready to burst; and, honestly, she was afraid of what she might do when she saw Kenny.
She’d left the arena as quickly as she could after the end of the tag match. Gone back to the locker room, packed up her shit, and called an Uber, apologizing to Orange on the way out for not staying for his match against Chris Jericho. There was no way she could stay there a second longer after what Kenny had done.
The elevator carried her to their floor. He’d booked the same room he always did. She stepped off the elevator and walked swiftly down the hall. When she reached the room, she banged hard on the door. Kenny answered a few seconds later, apparently fresh out of the shower, wearing just a pair of gym shorts.
“Hey, baby,” he said—but Alex pushed past him into the room. He shut the door and followed her inside. “Look, I’m sorry for—"
Crack!
Alex whirled around and slapped him hard across the face, cutting him off mid-sentence. She’d hit him hard enough that it turned his head, hard enough that her hand immediately stung. Kenny touched his fingers to his face. He gave a short, wry laugh.
“I guess I deserve that.”
“You’re fucking right you do,” she bit. “You lied to me, Kenny. You told me you would fix things with Adam and you just left him out there. You left the whole fucking arena.”
He rolled his eyes. Alex’s hand itched to slap him again. “Well what would you have liked me to do, Alex?” he asked. “Hm? Should I have caught him and told him that everything would be alright? Should I have said, ‘Don’t worry, we’ll get the titles back, bud!’ Is that what I should’ve done?”
“You shouldn’t have just left him and run out of the arena!”
“Well I did, because I’m done with him!”
Alex went momentarily dizzy. “What?” she breathed. “How can you say—”
“Because I’m done with being a tag team wrestler, Alex!” he proclaimed. “I’m done with being a drunken cowboy’s sidekick! I don’t want that! That’s not who I am! That’s not what I came to AEW to do! I don’t need to tell you that! You know that.”
He raked a hand through his hair, frustrated. Alex could feel it radiating off of him like heat. It shocked her, but she knew she needed to just listen.
“It was fun with Hangman while it lasted,” he went on. “I’m glad we got to be tag team champions together; I am. But I’m past that now. It’s time for me to be Kenny Omega now. It’s time for me to be the guy that everyone’s wanted and expected from day one of Dynamite.”
Alex scoffed. “What guy? The Cleaner?”
“Yeah,” he bluntly returned. “Exactly that guy. Isn’t that the guy you wanted when we first got involved? The Cleaner?”
Her breath hitched in her throat. There was nothing she could say to that—it was true. She’d never met Kenny prior to AEW. She just knew him as most of the world did: The Best Bout Machine, the leader of Bullet Club, the Cleaner, Kenny-fucking-Omega. His reputation preceded him. It intrigued her. It attracted her. It made her want to get to know him once she had the chance. And then she fell in love with him, the real him. But the thought of him being that guy in AEW… with her… she’d be lying to herself if she didn’t admit that that intrigued her, too.
He stepped closer. Alex didn’t move. He took her by the hips and pulled her against him; a pleasant tingle danced up her spine at his touch. As upset with him as she was, she couldn’t help the way her body reacted to him.
“I know you’re angry,” he said, his voice softening. “And I’m sorry it happened this way… but we both know it would’ve happened eventually. I can’t keep tagging with Adam to get what I want. And what I want is the AEW World Championship… and you by my side when I get it.”
Alex’s stomach did a flip. But her brow lowered, stubborn. “And what makes you think I want to be by your side when you get it?”
He gave a breathy laugh. “Come on, don’t be ridiculous. You know you’re my girl.”
There it was again, that cocky grin. But Alex didn’t argue or pull away. She just gazed up at him, her chest rising and falling with her breath, heart racing. She wanted to believe he was wrong; but she knew he wasn’t. She knew she’d go around and around this carousel with Kenny until it made her sick. He pushed her to the edge; he drove her insane; he made her do things that she never thought she’d do in a million lifetimes. He was exhilarating and infuriating and terrifying and intoxicating all at once. And every time she thought she’d sobered up she would always fall right back into him. It might take a week, or a month, or a year—but it was inevitable.
“Aren’t you, baby?” He cupped her jaw in his hand. She leaned into his touch. He ran his thumb over her mouth. Her eyes fell closed, kissing it, and then he parted her lips and slipped it inside her mouth. She sucked as he moved it in and out, slow. She bit down gently and opened her eyes. He looked like he wanted to ravage her—and she wanted to let him.
He pulled his thumb from her mouth and picked her up. She wrapped her legs tight around his waist and kissed him as he walked her blindly to the bed, grabbing at his curls, needing to taste him, feel him, get lost in him. She was still upset with him for what he’d done to Adam; of course she was. But she was in love with him. She couldn’t help that.

"Who's that?"
Adam knew better than to jerk his head around and stare. But he was already twisting, a smile pulling at his lips when he saw the obvious focus of his buddy's attention. She was sitting at the bar with her friend, the neon lights reflecting wildly off her turquoise hair. She leaned back, laughing, and he felt the now-familiar twist in his gut when the sound reached him.
He turned back around to face Isiah, grinning. "That's Emi."
"Emi? The girl you were telling us about?" Isiah's face lit up. "You didn't mention she's so fine…"
"Cut it out," Adam groaned, shaking his head. "We're just friends."
"Not to sound like an asshole, but—"
"Don't."
"C'mon, let me say it."
"No." Adam took a sip of his beer and shook his head again. "Because I already know what you're gonna say."
Isiah rolled his eyes. Then, beginning to smirk, he rubbed his hands together. "So if you're just friends you won't mind me asking her to the party."
"She's already coming."
"Alone?"
"I think she's coming with—" Adam squinted at his friend. "Oh, no. No, no, no. You're not asking her out."
"Why not?"
"She's not your type."
Isiah snorted. "She's cute and has a nice ass, she's definitely my type."
Adam nearly choked on his beer. "How the hell do you know what her ass looks like?"
"I can tell." The younger man grinned. "It's science."
He wanted to ask. He really did. But he didn't want to get a lecture on the finer points of determining the size and shape of a woman's backside. "Don't ask her out."
"Worried she'll say yes?"
"No," he bit off.
"Oh," Isiah said loudly, nodding. "I get it, I get it."
Adam sighed. "What?"
"You like her. As in like her."
"Of course I like her. She's nice and funny and—"
"And you want to get in her pants."
"And I want to—" Adam set his beer down with a thump. "Th'fuck did you just say?"
"It's cool, it's cool." Isiah scraped his chair back and stood. "You're shy, Adam, I know. I'll fix it up for you."
"Wait a goddamn minute!"
But Isiah was already heading towards the bar. Adam watched, terror rising in his chest, as his friend approached the two women. Emi and her friend Jo didn't look upset at him for interrupting their talk when he leaned against the bar and gave them both a winning smile. He saw Isiah's lips move, watched in horror as the man's head tipped in his direction, then felt panic when first Jo, then Emi, covertly glanced towards him.
***
"Ladies."
The greeting was accompanied by a grin from the man that slid up to the bar and leaned so both she and Jo could see it. Smiling, Emi sat back a little and regarded the man warily. She couldn't sense any possible negativity or threat from him and relaxed a bit, reminding herself that she frequently had difficulty reading other people. But she couldn't be rude. "Hello."
"My name's Isiah." He nodded to Jo. "We've met before."
"Yeah, hey," Jo said, smiling. "This is Emi."
"Emi?" He gently rubbed his chin then leaned against the bar. "I've heard a little about you."
"You have?" she squeaked. Then, not wanting to sound like an idiot, she cleared her throat and took a sip of her drink before trying again. "Who's talked about me?"
"My friend. He can't shut up about you."
Emi blinked. "He can't?"
"Between you and me, I'm like ninety-nine percent sure he wants to ask you out. But he's too shy."
She almost snorted. No one ever wanted to ask her out. "Yeah, right."
"He almost had a heart attack when I said I was coming over to talk to you."
She wanted to look. To see who it was. She wanted to know who apparently had talked about her, and who might, possibly, if Isiah were to be believed, want to ask her out. But she couldn't. What if it were all a joke? What if she looked back and there was no one?
What if there was?
"Who?" Jo wasn't as shy as Emi. Jo didn't wait for things to happen, she made them happen. Ever since meeting her the first day she'd arrived in town, Emi had wished she were more like Jo.
"I'm sure you know him. You've gotta. He's right over there, about to have a stroke." Isiah tipped his head towards a spot behind them. "Be cool, be cool, or he'll really have a stroke."
Emi almost laughed. She turned her head just a bit, so she could sneak a glance in the direction he'd indicated. Seeing the blonde man seated at the little table, she felt her heart drop into her stomach. "Shut up," she blurted, looking at Isiah. "Adam?"
Next to her, Jo giggled into her drink. "Oh this is great."
"Shut up," Emi warned. Jo was the only person who knew she had a little bit of a crush on the man. The oftentimes too-pretty man with a sunny smile and bouncing curls who wore jeans just a tad too tight and had a liking for obnoxious Western shirts. The kids at school called him Mr. Cowboy. Jo called him the Panty Dropper. Emi… Emi just called him Adam. Even in her mind, because despite her overactive imagination that created a whole host of scenarios that would never happen, she couldn't bring herself to call him anything but Adam. Because she would die if, during one of their chats at school in the teacher's lounge, she slipped and called him something inappropriate?
"Why is it great?" Isiah asked.
"Because—"
"Shut. Up." Emi ground out the words. God, Jo was going to embarrass her.
Isiah laughed. "Y'all are coming to the party tomorrow, aren't you?"
"We'll be there with bells on," Jo promised.
"Clothes, too, hopefully," Emi muttered.
Isiah snickered. "This is great."
***
Adam didn't know why everyone called it a party. To him, parties were for birthdays or an important event like an engagement or retirement, or even a holiday. Parties involved decorations and nice clothes and best behavior. They had small talk and polite laughter.
This party had none of that. There were no decorations, unless one considered the pile of scarecrows waiting to be slung onto the fire. No streamers or balloons or floral arrangements could be seen among the pickups circled around the center of the field. Nobody dressed up, everyone wore comfortable jeans and flannel shirts or hoodies and their old boots. Each truck seemed to have a different song coming from its radio, but the volumes were still low while everyone began sharing the booze and food they'd brought.
No tense small talk over weak drinks. There were intense discussions about football, one group was talking about Christmas plans. The drinks were strong and the laughter stronger, almost boisterous. Adam casually moved around the circle, waving the smoke from the fire out of his face, relaxing a little as the evening wore on.
He was sitting on his tailgate, pouring whiskey into his cup, when headlights cut across the field. Looking, he watched them swing, heard the engine rev, and calculated speed and distance and angling as the truck reversed towards him. "Shit," he muttered, hoping his calculations were wrong. The driver hit the brakes, casting a red glow over him, and he held his breath when the engine revved again, watching the pickup's bed squeeze between his and Cash's.
"Haha, oops," a female voice laughed after the engine was cut off. The driver's door opened, missing slamming into his passenger door by barely a millimeter, and he sighed as Jo hopped out. "See?! Bet you thought it wouldn't fit!"
"That's what she said," Dax called from his truck.
A musical giggle sounded from the cab of Jo's truck, and then he saw Emi climbing out. In the glow of the light Adam could see the shade of turquoise in her flannel shirt was the same shade as her hair. Feeling liquid slosh over his fingers he muttered a curse and tipped the bottle upright to stop the pouring. He ignored Isiah's chuckle as his friend took the bottle and, sipping the excess from the top, shook his fingers dry, watching out the corner of his eye while Emi hopped into the truck bed. She held a paper-wrapped bottle in one hand and he wondered what her preferred drink was. Funny, he thought, vaguely aware of Jo speaking, how he didn't know what Emi drank. When they ran into each other at the bar she was usually sipping a mixed drink or sticking to water.
"You ain't gotta sit over there by yourself," he told her a few moments later. Jo was gone. He had no idea where she'd slipped off to. He didn't really care. Isiah had abandoned him and taken his whiskey with him, but when Emi looked at him with a smile pulling at her lips he didn't care about that, either.
"You're sitting over there by yourself," she said, lifting her bottle for a sip.
"Let's burn these bitches!" Adam didn't know who hollered it, but heard some cheers of agreement.
"You wanna throw a scarecrow on the fire?" he asked.
She shook her head, and he saw something twinkling in her hair. "Do you?"
Adam shook his head. "Maybe next year."
"What are you drinking?" she asked after a moment.
The flames rose and he heard the whoosh of hay being consumed by the bonfire. Glancing down at his empty cup, he sighed. "Jack, but I'm out. That asshole Isiah took the rest with him."
"I've got some Tennessee Fire if you want." She dipped her head and he saw she had a bejeweled band on her head. "I've been drinking out of the bottle, though…"
"You don't got cooties, do you?"
She laughed, sliding off the tailgate and approaching him. Smoke whirled around her and followed her to his truck. He hopped down, eyes meeting hers, and lifted her onto his tailgate. He thought he saw her cheeks darken, but when he climbed up to sit next to her it was gone. "I don't have cooties."
"That's a relief." He held out his cup, eyes on her face while she poured. "Thanks."
"Not to sound like a downer, but does everyone just load up and drive home drunk as fuck?" she asked, briefly gesturing to the others.
"Naw," he drawled, lifting the cup for a sip. The cinnamon flavor clung to his tongue and added to the trickle of fire the whiskey created in his stomach. "Most of us just camp out in our trucks."
"In the middle of a cotton field." Emi shook her head. "Sounds…"
"Stupid?" He laughed. "It probably is. Some people might call for a ride, and there's always one idiot or two that drive home, but the rest of us sleep it off and roll back to town in the morning."
"That explains why Jo told me to bring a pillow and a sleeping bag." She glanced behind her. "Do you have one, too?"
"Yeah, up front."
"What if it rains?"
Adam tipped his head back to look at the cloudless sky. "It never has."
"But what if it does?"
"We'll drag ourselves into the cabs." He grinned at her. "You're a bit of a worrywart, aren't you?"
"I can't help it." She frowned. "I just want everyone to be safe."
"I think it's cute."
"Please," she snorted. "It's annoying. No one wants the mom friend."
"Some of us do," he promised.
***
Some of us do.
What the hell did that mean? The question popped into her mind again, though it had been hours since he'd said the words. The conversation had shifted to work, and then quickly to other topics, and it had flowed as quickly and naturally as the alcohol. She felt warm, almost toasty, perched in the back of his truck watching him climb over into Jo's truck to get her sleeping bag. It landed with a soft thump next to her and she reached for it, eyes still on him as he got her pillow and the extra blanket she'd brought. The truck dipped when he climbed back over, and she smiled up at him while folding the sleeping bag so she could sit on it.
"You're cold natured, huh?" he asked, handing over the pillow and blanket.
"It's December," she pointed out. "But yeah, I do get cold easily."
"Hang on." He lifted one foot to the side of the truck bed and her eyes drank in how the denim stretched over his crotch. She blinked, the bed swayed, and she heard his boots hit the ground.
She should have told him not to get her stuff. It wasn't as though she was going to sleep in his truck. It would just mean something to keep up with when she went back to Jo's truck. Jo. Frowning, she looked around, hoping to spot her friend.
A neatly rolled sleeping bag bounced next to her. The driver's door slammed, then Adam was climbing back in, tossing a thick hoodie over her lap. "Here, I won't get cold."
"Thanks." She spread it over her lap, fighting what had to be a stupid smile. Then, thinking of her friend again, she looked at him. "Have you seen Jo?"
"She's around," he said with a shrug. "So, how come you moved all the way out here?"
She told him, tongue loosened by his relaxing presence and the alcohol. To her surprise and embarrassment, she kept talking, finding it too easy to tell him that she was often homesick for Georgia, her old friends, and even her parents. He talked about family, too, and they passed the bottle back and forth as the bonfire's flames died down. Their voices lowered as the noise around them softened, and it felt all too natural to move closer so she could hear him better.
There was still the occasional laugh from someone, but slowly the laughter died out. One by one the radios were turned off, then just the irregular crackling from the fire among the soft conversations around them.
"Why are you wearing a tiara?" Adam asked after someone threw the last scarecrow on the fire.
"Oh." She laughed and reached to take it off, having forgotten it was still there. Still warm and toasty, now wrapped in the hoodie that smelled of him, she tossed the tiara aside. "Jo made me wear it when we went to dinner. It's my birthday."
"Yeah?" His smile was warm. "You should've told me."
"I just did."
"I would've gotten you something."
"No, I don't expect anything."
"We could've made this a birthday party for you."
"No," she groaned, giggling at the thought of a birthday party around a bonfire in a field. It sounded absurd. It sounded stupid. It sounded wonderful and sweet.
He slipped the bottle from her hand and set it aside.
She watched him sit up, and thought he was hinting that she should go when he spread his sleeping bag out. "Last night, at the bar…"
He lifted his head when she hesitated. "Yeah?"
"Never mind."
"No, c'mon, tell me," he encouraged, stretching out on his side. He reached around her, dragging her pillow next to his, then patted the sleeping bag invitingly.
Her heart tripped over several beats. Nodding, she uncurled her legs, leaning to pull off her boots before settling beside him. She waited until she'd spread her unzipped sleeping bag and blanket over her before shifting so she could see his face in the moonlight. "Isiah came over to talk to me and Jo."
"I know." He made a face.
"He said…" She drew in a breath. "He said you wanted to ask me out."
"He ain't wrong."
A door slammed, then an engine roared to life. Emi sat up, and saw Jo's head pop up from the back of Dax's truck. Surprised, but not really, when a hand reached up and yanked her friend down, she blinked to make sure she'd seen what she'd thought, and a few seconds later saw Jo's red-and-black plaid shirt flop over the side of the truck. She had known that there would be drunken sex happening at the so-called party. It was a bunch of country folks at a bonfire with almost unlimited amounts of liquor to spur them on. She was almost afraid to look at the other vehicles, but her eyes were already sliding, her head turning slightly, and she felt her cheeks heat when she saw more than a few couples making out. From somewhere – she wasn't about to look to see who – came a series of lustful moans.
"Hell yeah!" someone hooted triumphantly.
"Oh my god," Emi muttered, lying back.
Adam chuckled. "You're not really shocked, are you?"
"No… A little. I'm not uptight," she defended. "I just don't want to see it, you know?"
"I know," he murmured.
A thought occurred to her and she boldly reached over to poke his arm. "I didn't climb into your truck to have drunken sex with you."
"I ain't the drunk sex type, darlin'."
She had known he wasn't. She didn't know how she'd known, but she had. It was still nice to hear him say it, though. "…What kind of drunk are you?"
He laughed. It was almost a giggle. "I ain't drunk. But I get sappy. If I'm with someone I'm interested in, I get a little handsy… Sometimes I get loud and want to do stupid shit like chuck watermelons out the truck on a back road."
Emi grinned. "That sounds like fun."
"Yeah? We'll have to do that together sometime."
"I'd like that."
"So when I ask you out, you'll say yes?"
"You'll have to ask me and find out." She didn't know where this was coming from, this teasing and flirting that was so easy, but she enjoyed it.
"Emi?"
"Hmm?"
"Wanna go chuck watermelons out the truck?"
Her grin turned into a giggle. "I'd love to."
"I'll get someone to drive us."
"You'd have to. If we're drunk and standing in the back to throw melons, we need a driver."
"Watermelons are hard to find around here in December, though," he pointed out with a sigh.
"We can use pumpkins."
"Now we're talkin'!"
Laughing, she pulled her covers up over her shoulder. "This has been a fun night, Adam."
"It ain't over yet."
"It kinda is…" There was no more talking around them. Every few moments she heard a little moan or a soft giggle. The fire was almost died down. If she shifted her head just right she could see the glowing embers. They flickered, sparked, and she heard someone walking by. Seconds later there were soft murmurs of conversation in the truck next to them, and she turned her attention back to Adam.
"Happy birthday, Emi."
"Thank you," she murmured, trying to block out the sounds of movement. They seemed magnified, though, as were the whispers and rustling. There was fumbling, breathy gasps, then she heard the unmistakable rasp of a zipper being lowered. Unconsciously moving closer to Adam, she bit her lip when his hand found hers and squeezed.
"You wanna get in the cab?" he asked in a whisper.
She did, but she didn't. It would involve moving, but it would get her away from the sounds of foreplay occurring just a few feet away. Hesitating, she tried to decide whether or not she could tough it out. A man began to moan, she realized just what was happening, and she nodded. "Please?"
"I got you, darlin'," he murmured.
Have her, he did. He whispered for her to stand up while he climbed out, and the next thing she knew he was lifting her over the side, catching her to him with one arm as he opened the passenger door. Once she was inside he leaned to get her pillow, then gently closed the door. She got situated, adjusting her legs and the blanket while he rounded to climb in on the driver's side. A loud moan cut through the cab, shut off when he slammed the door, and when he looked at her in the dim light she began to laugh.
"I'm ridiculous," she sighed after their laughter had ceased.
"You're not."
"What does it say about me that I can't handle listening to people having sex?" She shook her head. "I guess I'm uptight about it."
"Are you uptight because you think it's a private thing that shouldn't happen around other people, or because you…" Adam cleared his throat. "Because you don't like sex?"
"It's been so long I can't even remember," she muttered without thinking. Then, before he could respond, she rushed on. "I think it's a private thing that shouldn't happen around other people. I mean, I couldn't do it around other people, you know? But I'm not gonna judge those than can. They're obviously having fun, they're consenting adults, I shouldn't be offended."
"Hang on." He shifted, stretching out his legs. "I've had too much to try to analyze all that…"
"I guess it would be different if we were in a house and people just went off to another room. I really don't mind people having sex." Emi sighed and fidgeted with the corner of the blanket. "I think part of me is just jealous that I'm not getting any."
"All you gotta do is ask."
"Sure, I'll just march over and ask two people that I might not even know if I can join in—"
"I mean me."
"You'd go ask them if I can join in?" she asked in confusion.
He laughed. "God, you're so fucking adorable. I mean ask me for sex, darlin'."
"I don't want a pity fuck," she said with a frown. Her frazzled brain finally caught up, and she turned to face him. "You've called me that a few times now."
"Does it bother you?"
"I like it."
"Good, 'cause I like calling you darlin'. And," he said, pushing himself upright, one hand leaning on the dashboard, "I don't do pity fucks."
"You don't?"
"If I have sex with someone it's 'cause I want them." There was just enough moonlight coming through the window for her to see him smile. "And they want me, of course."
"Everyone wants you." When he snorted, she rolled her eyes. "They do! All the women at work are always saying that you're a panty dropper or you make them wet when you talk to them, and I heard one say she'd like you to crack her back like a glowstick—"
"What do you say?"
"Me?"
"Yeah. Apparently y'all talk about me." He exhaled slowly. "What do you say during these conversations?"
"I don't say a damn thing."
"You don't?"
"My thoughts about you are private, I'm not about to blurt them out for everyone to hear." For some reason she felt a giddiness beginning to rise within her. She had to be going delirious. The next words out of her mouth proved that she was. "Sure, when we talk and you flash that pretty smile I have to squeeze my thighs together. And yeah, sometimes when I'm alone in my bed at night I fantasize about you bending me over and railing the hell out of me. And okay, fine, if you must know, I keep that voicemail you left me when you sounded sleepy because the way you said my name made me wet. But—"
"Jesus Christ, darlin'," he muttered. "All that, huh?"
"Yes," she groaned. Lifting her hands to cover her face, she gasped when he gently pushed them away. "You've got to be used to it, though. Women practically throw themselves at you every day."
"They really don't," he said. His fingers whispered over her cheek. "And even if they did, I wouldn't care."
"They do," she insisted. He was moving closer and her heart was starting to race. "Are you blind?"
"I said I wouldn't care, not that I wouldn't notice."
"Why wouldn't you care? If men threw themselves at me, I'd—"
"Stand there and smile and blush, all pretty and cute like you have for months," he interrupted.
"What do you mean?"
"I've been throwing myself at you since we met, darlin'."
"Bullshit," she blurted.
"Maybe you're the one who's blind."
"I like things to be given to me plainly. I'm not good at the subtle stuff."
"Yeah, I'm starting to figure that out."
"But I refuse to believe you've been throwing yourself at me," she muttered.
"Maybe throwing isn't the right word. But I've been trying to let you know I'm interested."
"Really? You've been flirting with me?"
"Have been since May." He chuckled.
"God, I am blind."
"Can you see now?" he asked. His palm was warm, slightly rough from the work she knew he did on his parents' farm. It cradled her cheek.
"Yeah," she whispered. All she could see was his eyes. And his smile. "I see clearly."
"About fuckin' time, darlin'," he drawled while guiding her close.
Their lips met with mutual sighs. She felt the longing, the desire, rolling off him, mirroring hers. He tasted of cinnamon whiskey and smoke. He smelled of the outdoors, of woods and fire, and she practically melted against him. Their tongues danced the age-old dance and their hands and fingers began to explore. His breath was harsh and hot, hers was erratic. A few grunts passed between them while they moved closer to each other.
He pulled back slightly, releasing a breathless chuckle. "I ain't fucking you the first time in a truck."
"Oh?" she asked, licking her lips as the blanket slid away.
Adam shook his head. "For about five reasons."
"Which are?" She smiled when he shifted so he was stretched out on the seat and she was on top of him.
"One, I like to have room. Two, you deserve better than a sloppy, half-drunk fuck. Three, I know you'd be embarrassed about it in the morning when everybody gives you that knowing look. Four—"
She cut him off with a kiss. It was sweet, almost chaste, and she pulled back to grin at him. "Three was enough."
"But four was my favorite one," he whined, dragging the blanket over them.
"Okay, fine, continue," she laughed.
"Four, I like you too damn much to act like a horny teenager. At least, at first," he added with a quick grin. "Five, I want it to happen naturally, not because we shared whiskey and listened to people fucking two feet away."
"Such a gentleman," she marveled. "There aren't many of those around anymore."
"I'm really not. I'll eventually act like a horny teenager, trust me."
"I can't wait."
"After I bend you over and fuck the hell out of you," he promised, pulling her into another kiss.
"I really can't wait," she moaned.
"We gotta," he whispered between kisses.
"Adam?" she asked, shivering after a long, drawn-out kiss. "Are you an idiot?"
"Sometimes, yeah, why?"
"I wanna do something stupid."
"If you say I'm the something stupid thing you wanna do—"
"Let's go to my place."
His fingers curled into her hips. She heard him gulp. "You sure?"
"Positive. I've got a big bed." Squealing softly when he sat up, she gripped his shoulders.
"We'll go slow," he whispered after kissing her again.
"We will?"
"Yeah." Sliding her off him, he scooted over to get behind the wheel.
"Don't drive like an idiot," she requested.
"I won't," he assured her, clapping a hand on her thigh and squeezing. "Trust me?"
"I'm letting you take me home so we can have sex, of course I trust you."
He started the engine, then leaned to give her a quick kiss. "No regrets tomorrow?"
"No regrets ever," she promised.

Post Revolution | Adam Page
Tumblr media
Pairing: Hangman Adam Page x Selena (Latina OFC) Word Count: 2.5K Warnings: alcohol mention, themes of depression, a bit of swearing, NO smut A/N: This is self-indulgent hurt/comfort. I just want him to know how much he’s loved ok.
****
It was particularly difficult to imagine the state Selena’s boyfriend was in after that emotionally turbulent tag championship defense. Watching from two rows back had been heartbreaking enough, the knots in her stomach were still tight even minutes after it was over. Selena made her way backstage then, not wanting to lose sight of him for more than a second.
He’d been vulnerable for weeks, and the alcohol wasn’t helping even if he thought it was.
She flashed her backstage pass to a security guard, who finally let her through to where the talent was gathered. The bucks were the first people Selena saw, and they didn’t do much in the way of easing her stomach. She hoped they wouldn’t see her, because she knew she was liable to say something regretful and beyond repair.
“Hey, Lenna!” Nick smiled at her as she made her way past them, grabbing her by the fingertips. “It’s good to see you, did you like the match?”
“Yeah, Nick. I loved it.”
Behind him, Matt’s ears perked up at the sound of her name and her voice, and he turned toward her with one small kid on his hip, ever the perfect, handsome father. He looked at her amiably enough, but there was something dark in his eyes that she couldn’t quite understand. It almost felt like a provocation.
And it was enough to flare her temper.
Nick's smile was big and bright, and it tore at her heart to even think of saying what was on her mind at him directly, so she looked plainly at his brother behind him. “But my favorite part was that y’all lost, and my boyfriend beat you.”
She flashed Matt a thousand-watt grin, lowered her head in regret to Nick, and excused herself.
Si yo fuera Adam, donde estaría? she asked no one. She knocked on the door of the make up room, the AEW make up artists slowly packing up their supplies with help from a backstage tech. “Stella,” she called.
“He passed by about two minutes ago,” Stella replied, popping up from underneath a black table cloth. Selena helped her up and dusted her off. “He was raving about ‘glitter dick’ and went down the hall to the showers. Lord knows what the fuck that meant.”
“Thank you, Stella,” Selena grinned, continuing her search for her lost cowboy. She felt like a sober Arthur Morgan looking for her Lenny. The quest was just as long, and yet it wasn’t any fun because the drunk one wasn’t her.
Her eyes scoured the doors of the hallway for one that would lead her to the showers. She found a paper sign, finally, with an arrow pointing down another hallway that read “men’s showers”. Her heart leapt once, pounding just a little bit faster at the thought of finding her man.
Why didn’t he come for me? She thought. Why did he isolate himself again?
He was like a sick dog. Keeping himself away from those he needed most just because he felt he was too much of a bother. But it was moments like this where he needed to be around the people who cared for him the most.
The wooden door to the showers sat slightly ajar, and steam escaped from it. Selena could hear the sharp and steady stream of a shower head in use. Not wanting to catch anyone else in the shower, she called out before entering, stunned at the echo of her voice that filled the room.
“Adam?” Her voice quivered. Already, she couldn’t help but feel a little afraid at how she might find him.
A moment’s pause. And then, softly but with feeling, the cowboy made himself known. “Yeah?”
“Can I come in?”
Another pause. He seemed to be debating something. “I—I’m not. Decent.”
“That’s okay, sweetheart. I don’t mind.” When he didn’t answer back: “Do you?”
“Maybe. A little.”
She ran her tongue across her lips. It was perhaps the only reaction she made that could have possibly told someone that his words ached at her heart. Her eyes remained steady on the ground, a hand resting on the door. Selena could feel him, there, inside. She only hoped he could feel her there, too. “Okay. I’ll be out here, waiting. Take your time.”
A quiet “okay” was the only response.
She waited outside for him, somewhat impatiently, but she didn’t want to push him. She stared at the ceiling. At the wall. At her feet. She gave closed-mouth smiles at the backstage techs that hurried past, trying to load some equipment back up into the trailers. Some of them looked sorry for her. Others glanced at her, confused, then shook their confusion away and continued their work. A few of them she recognized. They gave her tiny waves or quick hellos. Apart from them, the hallway was empty of AEW talent.
Except for one.
He sat on a production crate, head leaned back against the wall. She hadn’t noticed him at first, as he was known to be eerily quiet. This moment in particular, though, he managed a sigh that was loud enough for her to hear in the now silent hall.
“Orange?” she said meekly.
His head turned slowly to look at her. It was hard to tell just what sort of emotions were on his face, as his eyes were hidden behind his shades.
“Are you all right?” Selena pressed. But he didn’t say anything. Next to his crossed legs was a piece of printed paper. He shuffled it away from him, and it fell on the floor, luckily at her feet.
It was a miniature sized poster of one of the blown-up ones she’d seen at the entrance of the arena. A graphic of Pac, hulking and menacing, and Orange himself, with the words “Pac vs Orange Cassidy in a singles match at AEW Revolution” underneath them.
Selena picked up the paper and smiled, glad of the chance to take her mind off the anxious cowboy in the showers. She figured Orange must want to talk about it, since he took the time to show her the poster, and sighed loudly enough for her to hear, specifically. So she took the bait. “Why, Orange, you aren’t...worried about this match, are you?”
It took Selena a few moments before she realized Orange was shrugging.
“Hm, you don’t seem too sure.” She took it a step further, “in fact, I’d say it’s like you think what Pac said about you is true.”
What little she could see of his eyebrows furrowed together, and she noticed him take another deep breath. Selena took a step closer to him, glancing back at the door to the showers. She probably still had a few more minutes till Adam appeared, so she inched a bit closer.
“No, that’s not it, is it?”
A small quirk of his left elbow told her maybe she was onto something.
“It’s the fans. You’re worried they aren’t going to like the match. That they’ll finally see you wrestle, and be disappointed.”
A tiny clench of his jaw told her she’d hit it right on the mark.
She found herself standing right in front of his perch, determined to get him out of his slump. Her hands held onto both corners of the crate, and she looked at him directly in the shades.
“Now you listen to me, Orange Cassidy. I’m going to tell you something that I wish I could tell my boyfriend every day of my life, because it’s the truth. And I think it’s true about you too, okay?”
He nodded. Not too quickly. Just slow enough.
“The fans adore you. They love every second of you out there, and you never fail to make them smile. The crowd goes absolutely buckwild for you, and there’s no reason for me to think that they wouldn’t ever have your back. You’re one of the best wrestlers on this show, one of the best wrestlers in the world, and don’t think for one minute that you aren’t.”
Selena could feel tears welling in her eyes, and she looked away from him, drawing a deep breath. She tried to focus her eyes on the floor, and it was then that she noticed a pair of cowboy boots at the edges of her vision.
(Unbeknownst to Selena, Orange Cassidy had also smiled at this exact moment, slipped off the crate, and proceeded  down the hall.)
Adam Page stood next to her in all six feet of his glory. His light blue jeans hung tight against his thighs, held firmly on his waist by a dark brown belt and its grand belt buckle. He was wearing one of those flowery western shirts of his that Selena loved so much, his hair still glistening wet.
“Adam,” she breathed. His name rushed out of her like a sigh of relief. He was close enough to touch, and she so desperately wanted to. She eyed him, noticing a gentleness in his gaze, and an openness of his body. She reached for his hands, kissing them tenderly, giving them a small squeeze.
“Babe,” he ran his tongue along his lips, stammering out the next few words: “I’m-I’m sorry I didn’t come to find you. I needed a-a-a drink.” He winced at the sound of his own voice.
Selena nodded, looking away from him. Once again, he’d decided alcohol was a better help to him than herself. Though it stung at her pride, she wanted him to know just how much she loved him. “I understand. Do you want to stay and watch the other matches?” It was a question meant to gauge how he felt still.
Adam’s eyes fluttered closed, pulling her in for a warm embrace. He took in a deep breath, faintly smelling the aroma of her soft perfume. He was reaching for anything that could keep him grounded, anything intoxicating enough to melt away the resentment and the pain he felt during the most adrenaline-filled match of his life. He felt like a bottle of soda so shaken up that if someone managed to pop his top off, he’d be ready to blow, covering everything in his wake. He didn’t want to be uncontrollable, he didn’t want to be full of ire. Something about his win, he  thought, didn’t feel right. It felt...tainted.
But how could he tell her? How could he tell her that despite everything he accomplished today, there was still a gaping void in his chest that ate at him from the inside?
He thought back to what he heard between Selena and Orange as he walked out of the shower room. “You’re one of the best wrestlers in the world, and don’t think for one minute that you aren’t.” Did she really think that? Or was that truly only a figment created by his lack of sobriety?
“What you said. To Orange,” he pulled away, his clear eyes meeting her dark ones. “Did y-you really mean that?”
She could feel the welling of tears at the corner of her eyes again. Now was the time. If ever she could quell his inner demons, even for a moment, this was it.
“Of course I did. I wish I could say those things to you every day, but I know you wouldn’t believe them. Your mind…” a tear fell down her face, tickling her skin. “You won’t let yourself believe it.”
Adam’s eyes glistened. “I wish you could see what I see. A wonderful man who’s come so far, who still has so much more to go.” Selena raised a soft hand to rest it against his cheek. “You are kind, and you are smart, and you are ever-evolving. There isn’t a day that goes by that I’m not awestruck by how you’re improving. As a boyfriend, as a wrestler. As a man. As a human being.  You are so much better than all of them, Adam.”
He swallowed hard, her words tightening that void within him.
“But the one thing they have right? They ask each other for help. Now, maybe...maybe they were too caught up in their own shit to realise you were calling out for help. But I’m not. I’m here.” “I see you, darling man. Do you see me?” The tears were overwhelming her now, but she couldn’t look away from him. She wanted him to feel it, feel how much she meant her words.
It wasn’t long before she felt her cowboy’s lips on her forehead, on her cheeks kissing away the tears. When he reached her mouth, they meshed together so needily, so desperately. She could taste the salt of her tears on his lips, but she didn’t care. She needed him, and he needed her.
The words rolled out of him so softly, so clearly that Selena could hardly believe he was still drunk. “I see you, babe. I see you. And I love you so much, and I’m sorry that I ever thought I could do this without you.” His forehead pressed against hers, his nose nuzzling her ever so affectionately. The knot inside him was too much to bear, and he realised he needed to let it go. “I just feel so lost. I feel like. Like nothing I do is enough. Like no matter what, I won’t be happy. At the end of everything, I still feel like...like I’m nothing.”
The tears were already staining his cheeks before he realised he was sobbing into her shoulder. She wrapped an arm around the back of his neck, placing her fingers at the nape in hope that it would give him some comfort. He was so, so heavy. Heavy with a pain that she had known before. But this is what he needed. He needed to let it go. His entire body engulfed her, but she remained firm and unyielding, when he couldn’t be.
With every heaving of his chest, every shuddering breath, the weight of the void in his heart lifted. The suffering seeped out of his every pore, disappearing like a wisp of smoke. The shroud of anguish that consumed his mind vanished, leaving him feeling lighter than he ever had.
And for what it was worth, Selena could feel it.
Adam pulled back a bit, so he could look his girl in the eyes, and noticed the damp spot on her shoulder that he left behind. “Fuck, I-I’m so sorry.” Still drunk, maybe. She gave him a gentle smile.
“It’s okay, Adam.”
“N-no, it’s not, I-babe, I-” he protested, but she raised a finger to his lips.
“Everything’s okay,” she whispered, embracing him again and leaving a chaste kiss at the corner of his mouth. “Feel better?”
Adam ran his tongue along his mouth, letting his mind wonder about its own ease. “Yeah, actually.”
Selena pulled his arm over her own, locking the two of them together by the elbows with a proud grin on her face. “Good.” She leaned her head on the side of his arm, and motioned for them to get going. “Sometimes the best way to get rid of the burden of a heavy heart is to share it with someone else.”
He grinned at her, planting a kiss on the top of her head. “How did I end with such a wise girlfriend?”
“I don’t know. But Orange you glad you did?”

Humbug Soup
For various reasons, I'm really not a "holiday spirit" kind of girl but I do like seeing people happy and that usually puts me in a decent enough mood at this time of year. Nevertheless, I know that the holidays can be a little overwhelming for some people and so I wrote something quick that's fluffy and funny and that I hope you enjoy.
Pairing: Hangman Page x OFC
Word count: 1,597
Content advisory: sexual references, brief references to death (yes, I said this was funny and I meant it... really...)
It’s a strain to lift all the groceries in one go and your boots are giving you precious little traction, so you know there’s a decent chance that you’re going to wipe out and break both your legs just getting from the parking lot to your apartment but you are not making more than one trip. You’ve got everything you need, you fought your way through the last minute Christmas eve grocery shoppers, and now all you have to do is get the bags inside and you’ll be able to hole up for a few days until you have to head back to work.
So even though you know you should be more careful, you drag the heavy bags inside in one go. When you hear the door latch behind you, you immediately feel a sense of relief. You shake the snow from your coat and kick off your boots and slide around the place in your wool socks as you put your purchases away. You keep getting messages on your phone but you’re determined to ignore them.
We’re having a little get-together, you should come over. Have some eggnog and relax.
No, you think, you do not need another Christmas party. You put in your time at the AEW one a week ago. It was fine. Yes, you love your work friends but you’re happy where you are. Or something.
Seriously, come over. You shouldn’t have to be alone on Christmas Eve!
Rebel is so insistent that you have to break your incommunicado rule to tell her that you’re fine, you don’t mind being alone, you have “some stuff” you want to do at home. You hope you come off as nice but firm and not like the grouchy head case you always feel like around this time of year.
Hangman’s gonna be sad.
You wish she wouldn’t bring that up. You’re starting to think that maybe you shouldn’t have told her about your little workplace hookup because she’s way too quick to mention it and even if she doesn’t break down and tell someone on purpose, it seems like you’re on borrowed time until she just says something a little too loud or too obvious.
Normally, you would have kept quiet about what had happened. You and Adam Page had had this low-key flirting thing going on for months but nothing had ever come of it. He’d mentioned something about you to Rebel (and you’re still not sure how he ended up going to her) and she’d pushed you to be a little bolder. So one evening you’d really dialed up the flirting and the two of you had ended up sharing a cab back to the hotel after a show, which had turned into the two of you making out in the cab, which had turned into him coming up to your room and the two of you fooling around for a few hours before he snuck back to his own room in the dead of night.
You hadn’t actually had sex, although you’d done everything but and the next day, your skin was littered in little bite marks and scratches from his beard. You kept thinking about how his hands had felt, how his mouth had felt, and it made your stomach do flips. You’d anticipated that there would be another round or two but there wasn’t. You thought about asking him if something was wrong but you felt too embarrassed that you’d made a bit of a fool of yourself. After all, you were the one who’d made the first big move. Yes, you’d thought that he had been interested before but now you wonder if he’s just flirtatious all the time and you were engaging in some wishful thinking. Sure he went along with it when you upped the ante but what kind of guy is going to say no to getting his dick sucked?
You send Rebel another polite ‘thanks but no’ and assemble the first things you’re going to need from your giant grocery haul: onions, garlic, carrots, celery, herbs, oil. Cooking has never been your thing but since you don’t have anything else occupying your attention, you’ve decided to make that your new project. You have to consult the recipe before you do anything, even though you know what you’re doing is ridiculously simple. It feels like if you get any part of this wrong, you’ll blow up your whole kitchen.
You’re scrolling through the instructions, wondering how big the margin between dicing and chopping really is when there’s a knock on the door. For a building that’s supposed to be secure, it’s a little disturbing how often the front door gets propped open so that anyone can just come sashaying through the halls. And it’s especially annoying because you don’t feel like you can just ignore whoever is there because if it’s Rebel or anyone from this party she apparently has going on, they might panic and call the cops thinking that you’d cracked your head.
It isn’t Rebel.
“I’ve been sent to retrieve you.” Adam gives you a little grin. He’s wearing some sort of over-the-top tacky sweater and a Santa hat that’s a bit too small, which is ridiculous but he still manages to look attractive, much though it pains you to admit it.
‘I don’t want to be retrieved,” you grumble.
He steps across the threshold and you don’t stop him, although it seems a little forward.
“Not much in the Christmas spirit, are you?”
It’s true: there is not a single ornament, no wreath or plant or anything that wouldn’t be here at any other time of year.
“Christmas isn’t really my thing.”
“Well come on, you can’t just stay here by yourself.” He reaches out to grab your arm and you take a big step backward.
“Yes I can,” you insist.
“Do you have family coming over or something?”
“No, I just have… stuff to do.”
He smiles and once again moves towards you. Once again, you take a step back.
“What’s so important that you can’t come out and celebrate the holidays with your friends? It’ll be here when you get back.”
He reaches out, gesturing to you to take his hand but you shake your head.
“I’m making soup.”
He frowns like he thinks you’ve just made a joke he doesn’t get.
“Soup?”
“Yes, that’s right, soup.”
“Like Christmas soup?”
You stamp your foot a little impatiently. “No, not Christmas soup, just plain soup. I bought ingredients, I have a recipe, I’ve been planning this for a few days and now I just want to stay inside and make my soup and wait for this whole holiday thing to blow over.”
His face grows concerned. “Did something happen? Is your family ok?”
“My family is fine. At least I think they’re fine. My parents are both dead and my grandmother is in care but I’ll talk to her tomorrow like I do every Christmas. And the rest of them I don’t like very much.”
“Is that why the… anti-seasonal vibe I’m getting?”
You heave a huge sigh. “It’s just not for me. I’m not trying to ruin anyone’s fun, I’m not crapping on people who love this time of year but I feel awkward at parties, the music gets on my nerves, and I get nervous because Christmas trees feel like a fire hazard to me.”
His thoughtful blue eyes look you up and down.
“Did… was there a Christmas tree fire when you were a kid? Is that what happened to your parents?”
“What? No. Heart disease, both of them and I was an adult when it happened. I’m not traumatized, I just want to make soup.”
He folds his arms and you can see the muscles strain under his sweater. “Ok, let’s make soup, then.”
“You don’t have to stay with me. I’m fine.”
He takes another couple of steps forward and this time you don’t back up. You square your shoulders and look him right in the eyes.
“Why didn’t you call me or anything after we got together that night?”
He looks ashamed. “I meant to.”
“But you didn’t.”
“I knew you and your boyfriend broke up about six months ago. I guess I thought you were just looking to hook up with someone for a quick thing or maybe a rebound and I didn’t know how I felt about that.”
“There are a lot of assumptions packed in there.”
He twists in place like you have him trapped.
“Well by the time I realized I was overthinking things, I’d taken too long and then it just felt awkward talking about it.”
You’d like to tell him that you don’t have time to deal with all the traps he sets for himself in his head but you’re in no position to judge anyone for overthinking.
“Did the ex get you to do Christmas stuff with him?”
“His family were Orthodox Jews. Wasn’t exactly their scene.”
“So, if we’re making soup, that’s like your first Christmas tradition.”
“It’s not a Christmas tradition. It’s food. I eat it all year.”
“Well, it’s winter soup.”
“Fine,” you sigh, unable to stop yourself from laughing a little, “winter soup. That still doesn’t make it Christmas-y.”
He crowds himself against you and looks at everything you have spread out.
“Do you know what you’re doing here?” you ask.
He shakes his head. “I always thought soup grew in cans.” He wraps an arm around you and kisses your temple. “Just tell me what you want me to do.”

Never Too Late to Be Elite
Tumblr media
A/N: What started with a visit from Kenny became, through a conversation with @mox-made-me-do-it, a crossover between my Take Me Saga and In a Day or Two.
“Unc’a Kenny,” Nicole said, climbing up onto the sofa next to him. She had her stuffed Mickey in her arms as she curled up against his side. Kenny tucked his arm around her and dropped a kiss onto the top of her head.
“Hey, Bug,” he said, grinning. “What’re you doing?”
I grinned as I watched my husbands’ best friend snuggle Nicole, tickling her and making her laugh and squeal. Besides her Dada and her Papa, Kenny was her favorite person in the whole world. Whenever we went to shows, there was only one thing she wanted—and that was to find her Uncle Kenny and stay wherever he was until the night was over. It was adorable, really. And Kenny was fantastic with her—with all our kids really—and he treated her like a princess. She got piggyback rides and tossed up in the air and got to sit in the production area with too-big headphones on as Kenny watched the matches.
Matt stood nearby at the stove manning a pot of pasta noodles and browning hamburger. I had my hands covered in onions and peppers. It was one of the only times that all of them had free that they could get together. Kenny had flown in from Winnipeg the day before, and we were expecting Adam Page and his wife, Emily, from Virginia any time. A big dinner was called for, and I was pulling out all the stops with Matt’s help.
Nick was on kid duty while Matt and I cooked. He was camped out on the sofa with Kenny, a Clippers game on the TV and a fussy RJ in his lap and Leo rolling around in the floor with Oreo. Mattie was in her room cleaning out Bandit and Ranger’s cages so she could bring them out to see our guests.
“Pway,” Nicole said, grinning up at Kenny. She batted her blue eyes at him, and I watched that big softy just melt into pieces. He rolled his eyes playfully and snatched up the discarded Switch from the table.
           “What’re we playing, Nik?”
“Ammimmawls,” my daughter mumbled, tapping the screen with her finger.
Kenny laughed and kissed the top of her head. “Animal Crossing it is then.”
I crossed behind Matt in the kitchen and pulled out a pan to bake the spaghetti. “Is Shaye coming?” I whispered, low enough that Kenny couldn’t hear.
Matt shrugged. “No idea. Kenny hasn’t said anything about her for weeks.” My husband glanced over his shoulder to where his friend was thoroughly entertaining our daughter with videogames. “I don’t know what’s going on with them. But it’ll be good for him to not have to think about it for a while.”
My heart broke for our friend. I’d seen Kenny with Shaye Walker once, and there was no denying that he loved her. It was obvious in the way he looked at her. “It’s not going to be weird for him when Adam and Emily show up?”
“Hopefully the kids can keep his mind off it. Nikki’s not going to leave him alone,” Matt replied, “and Mattie’s going to make him play with Ranger and Bandit when she gets their cages cleaned out.”
I sighed and leaned up to kiss Matt’s cheek. “I hope things work out for them. Kenny really loves her.”
***
“Tea,” Matt shouted down the hall. He was standing at the front door, grinning out at the newest arrivals to the Jackson compound. I glanced out the kitchen window and caught sight of Adam Page’s sandy blond hair as he passed by. “Somebody’s here to see you.”
“Paaaaapaaaa,” our daughter whined, sticking her head out of her bedroom door. “I’m trying to take care of Bandit and Ranger.”
Two sets of cowboy boots stepped across the threshold. Emily King—now Emily Page—grinned and waved her hellos at everyone. Matt gave her a one-armed hug and gestured her into the house. Adam got a fist bump and a head nod at Kenny and Nick. Oreo barked at the new arrivals, but was quickly re-distracted by Lee and a squeaky bone.
“Sounds like somebody’s got some animals in the house,” Adam said, his voice booming against the rafters. It had a warm Southern twang to it that always made me smile.
I waited a split second, and then, from the end of the hall… “Uncle Adam!”
I peeked out just in time to see Mattie racing toward Adam, who had his arms out. He swung our seven-year-old up off her feet and squeezed her into a tight hug, kissing the side of her head.
“Uncle Adam,” she said as soon as she was on her feet again. She wrapped one of Adam’s hands in both of hers and started tugging. “Come look. Dad and Papa got me two hamsters. You have to see them. Come see them. Come on!”
Adam looked over his shoulder and grinned indulgently at his wife. I watched Emily beam back at him, her eyes bright with love.
“Don’t hurt his hand, Mattie! We’ve got a match next week,” Nick shouted after them as he stood up, RJ on his hip. He sauntered over to hug Emily hello and was highly surprised when RJ stretched out his arms toward her. “I’ll be damned. He doesn’t go to anybody.”
Emily smiled. “Kindergarten teacher, Nick,” she replied. “They can sense it.”
She bounced RJ in her arms as she walked over to the sofa and took up Nick’s empty spot. Kenny glanced over and grinned at her, his attention still nearly wholly occupied by Nicole. Lee hopped up between them and started telling Emily all about Oreo and the tricks he could do, all while the dog splayed out on his belly at their feet.
Nick slipped into the kitchen and started picking apples from the bowl. I reached out and slapped him in the wrist with a spatula. “You’re not going to have any dessert if you keep that up,” I teased.
He grinned at me and pressed a kiss against my cheek. “You know you don’t mean that,” he said against my throat. He wrapped his arms around my waist and hugged me tight.
“Well, I can’t make an apple pie if I don’t have any apples, Nick,” I replied, grinning at him. “And then you really won’t have dessert.”
Matt laughed and thumped his brother hard in the ribs as he went by, stopping to give me a kiss on the cheek.
***
“Alright, let’s hit it,” Nick said, standing in the middle of the living room. He whistled and clapped a couple times. Then repeated it all over again. Mattie came tearing down the hallway, dragging Adam behind her. Nicole kicked against Kenny’s shins and wiggled out of his lap to come stand at beside her Dada. Lee turned backwards and scooted off into the floor, then crawled over to Nick. “Table it!”
Adam, Emily, and Kenny fell in line behind the kids. The dining table was groaning under cheesy baked spaghetti, homemade garlic breadsticks, salad, and a lattice apple pie that almost didn’t make it. Matt made drinks for the kids while Emily and I got the guys set up with something. Nick got a wriggling, not very happy RJ into his high-chair.
“Hey, Mama,” Matt said, slipping in beside me. I leaned against his side, feeling exhaustion start to slip in. He wrapped his arms around me and kissed my hair. “Go sit down. You’ve earned a rest. Nick and I’ve got cleanup tonight”
I kissed him on the cheek and went to sit down. Kenny grinned as he filled his plate to overflowing. “Are you okay, Y/N? You look pale.”
           “I’m good, Ken. Just tired.”
Adam passed the plate of breadsticks down the table. “You didn’t have to go so big just for us,” he said.
“This isn’t much more than a normal dinner for us,” I replied, gesturing around the table. “At least Nicole’s eating breadsticks now.”
Nick grinned and gestured his fork at our youngest daughter. “Only because Uncle Kenny likes them.”
Kenny looked down at Nicole and held out his breadstick. She grinned and chomped a bite off the end. “Because Y/N’s breadsticks are the best.”
           “Uh huh,” Nicole said, nodding.
Emily smiled as she looked around the table at our family. I watched her take Adam’s hand and lean against his shoulder. He grinned and pressed a kiss on the top of her head, lingering with his nose in her hair and a smile of sweet contentment on his face. I glanced sideways at Kenny, happy to see that he was engrossed in keeping Nicole occupied by sword fighting with breadsticks. Most of the time, I’d tell the kids not to play with their food, but it was keeping Kenny smiling I wouldn’t complain.
Kenny looked back at me, his brow furrowed. “Are you sure you’re okay, Y/N?”
Matt glanced over at Kenny’s words, his dark eyes going worried as he looked me over. “Nick,” he said sternly, snapping at his brother to get his attention.
Before I knew it, both were right behind me. I felt them lift my chair and pull it back from the table. Nick crouched down beside me, his hands skimming my cheeks. “Y/N? What’s wrong?”
           I sighed. “I’m fine. I promise.”
“Mama, you’re pale,” Matt said, stroking my hair. “You’re tired. Go lie down. We’ve got this covered.”
“Y/N, I’m sorry if we put too much on you by coming,” Emily said, looking over at Adam. “We can help clean up. I don’t mind.”
“I’m fine, guys,” I said looking between the two of them. “I promise, I’m fine.”
“You’re not fine, Sunshine,” Nick added. “You look like you’re about to pass out.”
“I’m not going to pass out. I’m not sick,” I said frustratedly. “I’m pregnant.”
For a moment, everything was quiet. I looked from Matt to Nick and back again. I forgot that Adam and Kenny and Emily were even there. The only thing that really mattered was the look on my husbands’ faces as the news made sense to them. They watched me for a while before wrapping me in a hug that completely engulfed me. I felt Nick crying against my shoulder, and Matt pressing kisses over and over against my hair.
“You’re kidding,” Nick said through tears. “You’re kidding us, right?”
I shook my head, afraid for the first time since the first time that this would be unwelcome news. Matt took my face in his hands and grinned, his brown eyes glittering. “That’s fantastic.”
I glanced up and saw that Adam had his arm wrapped tight around Emily, looking down at her with nothing but absolute pure love in his eyes. My heart skipped a beat, hoping for only good things for them. Kenny smiled back at us, but I could see the sadness underneath.
“I wanted to wait until later,” I said, looking at our friends sheepishly. “But you two can’t let something go.”
Kenny ducked his head. “My bad, Y/N.”
“No, Ken, it’s fine. They’d have said something even—”
The doorbell rang. Matt, Nick, and I looked at each other, confused. “Were your parents coming?” I asked.
“No,” Nick said, looking toward the door. He pressed a kiss to my hair and stood. Matt watched him go, a small smile on his face.
I could hear murmuring by the door and then saw Nick come back around the corner. He was grinning just like his brother. “Hey, Ken? There’s someone at the door for you.”
“Me?” Kenny asked, brows knitting together. He shrugged and stood up, only have Nicole latch around his waist. Rolling his eyes indulgently, Kenny hooked her around his neck in a piggyback ride and squeezed past Nick to the door.
Silence, then the sound of Kenny’s dumbstruck voice. “Shaye?”

“Where are they with the damn tests?” Bri groaned, flopping back onto the bed. Adriana, their best friend who was new to the AEW roster, shrugged, “Maybe Gabby is arguing with the cashier.”
Right after that sentence, Gabby and Parker walked through the door, bickering.
“This is your THIRD pint of ice cream this past 24 hours, Parker! Get over the breakup and go get some dick or somethin’.” “Oh I’m sorry did you break up with Adam when you’re absolutely in love with him? No,” She yelled, snatching Ben and Jerry’s ‘Love Is..’ from one of the bags, “So let me deal with it how I want!”
“It’s been like 3 weeks and all you’ve done is eat pints of ice cream.” “You didn’t wanna stop at Baskin Robbins!” They had started full blown yelling when Bri pushed them apart, “Can we just do this? Take some pregnancy tests as some jokes now?” Parker had rolled her eyes, taking the tests out of the bag, two for each of them.
“So who wanna volunteer?” Adrianna asked. “Nose goes!” Everyone had done it in time except the one person who asked, Adri. She sighed and took the tests to the bathroom, Gabby, Bri and Parker sitting in the room, waiting. “What if one of the tests comes back positive?” Bri asked. “Then it’ll probably be me or yours.” Gabby laughed. “Yeah yeah, make fun of me all you want but at least I would know who the dad is.” Parker mumbled, glaring at Bri.
“What?” Gabby asked. “Oh nothing, Parker just being a psychopath.” Bri said through her teeth, mad that Parker almost told Gabby that she had been cheating. A moment later Adri came out of the bathroom, tests in hand. “Now we wait.” One by one they had all taken their tests, Bri, Parker and Gabby being the last one. They had all waited till all of them said pregnant or not.
“We all know it’s not gonna be Parker.” Bri laughed, Parker looked up, ice cream in her mouth, “Shut. Your. Face.”
It was time for them to all see, this wasn’t for anything serious, they had just wanted to have some fun.
“1.”
“2.”
“3.” They all said in unison. Adriana, Brianna and Parker laughed, knowing that it would for sure say negative. They had all looked over at Gabby who had a confused expression. “Gab-E?” Parker asked, concerned, “What happened.”
“Are you sure we got the most promising ones?” A tear ran down her face.
Immediately Parker snatched the test out of Gabby's hand. “Holy shit!” Adriana yelled out. “What the hell?!” Bri let out. “You fucking dumbass!” Parker screamed. The test was positive, Gabby was pregnant. Gabby couldn’t do anything but cry, her and Adam had sex without condoms or birth control, but she didn’t expect a baby out of it. “It’s gonna be ok.” Adriana said in a soft voice before hugging Gabby. “What do I tell Adam? That I’m just pregnant?” She built up words to say. “No shit, what else do you say?” Parker took in a spoon full of her ice cream.
“I think everything will be ok Gab.” “Just stay calm.” Bri and Adriana tried to comfort Gabby while Parker was in the corner still sad about her break up. “Ok I have to tell him, so quiet down.” Gabby really didn’t want to, but she didn’t wanna hide it either. She pulled out the phone and dialed the number of her boyfriend.
“Adam?” “Hi babe!” Gabby heard Adam on the other side of the phone, which made her heart smile. “Where are you?” “Right now I’m with Matt and Brandon what’s wrong?” “I have to tell you something.” Tears began to flow down Gabby’s face. “I’m….pregnant.” “No fucking way!” Adams face brightened. “Yes fucking way.” “Babe I can’t wait!” To Gabby’s surprise the cowboy was excited. “I love you so damn much boy. I’ll see you in a few.” “I love you too, see ya.” Gabby hung up the phone, smiling.
“So what did he say?” Adriana questioned. “He was happy...I think” she replied.
The four had left the room a little while later to get to Daily’s Place and for the first time, Parker and Gabby didn’t speak to each other.

“Shut up John!” “You shut up Stu!” “You can’t even get anyone else in the Dark Order!” Parker walked close by, stifling laughter from what she was hearing in the room ahead. It went quiet for a second before you heard a slap and the familiar yelp of John Silver. She jumped and cringed, knowing that Brodie had hit him with papers, again. She was about to walk away when Alex Reynolds exited from the room to get away from the drama inside.
“Parker! What’s up?” “Just walking by, can I leave now?”
“Why leave so soon? Why not just stay, at least for a minute?” “I already told you I’m not joining the Dark Order, pretty boy.” Parker snapped back, clearly not dealing with it this week. Alex put his arm up to lean on the wall, trying to be smooth, “Who said anything about the Dark Order?” “God, what do you want?” “To talk to you, obviously.”
Parker arched a brow, “Why?” Alex chuckled, “Don’t act dumb.” “Excuse me?!” “C’mon, you know I didn’t mean it like that. What I meant, is that you and me? We got good chemistry.” Parker gave a confused face, “What the fuck do you mean ‘chemisrty’, pretty boy?”
“I mean think about it, why do you think I’m always trying to get you in the Dark Order?” “Cause you’re desperate?” “Oh come on! You can’t go five minutes without calling me ‘pretty boy’.”
Parker’s jaw dropped at that sentence, “That’s not what...I mean- you can’t….I give up.”
“So you’re saying that you do think I’m attractive?” Parker smiled, “Well they didn’t call you the handsome devil for nothing.”
Alex moved closer to her, “Well I’ll admit, you’re very attractive yourself." Parker giggled, “I didn’t know you thought that.” “Oh trust me, I think about way more than how attractive you are.” He winked. Parker looked at the floor before taking out her phone and handing it to Reynolds, he typed in his number and handed her the phone back. She kissed his cheek before walking away, “I’ll call you.”
He smirked as she left, then jumped when Brodie yelled his name from inside the room. He frantically ran inside, scene ending on the closed door.
The Elite talked about Chili’s and such when they all looked towards the doorway. “Another fucking girl Adam?” Kenny shouted, as the trio of Adam, Gabby, and Adriana, who was Gabby's friend, walked into the EVP’s room. “Not right now Kenny, please.” Gabby ran her hand down her face, getting anxiety over what The Elite would say about her being pregnant. “We have an announcement.” Adam said, wrapping his arm around Gabby's waist knowing it would calm her. “Don’t tell me you guys are getting married this soon.” Nick sighed. Adam came around behind Gabby, cupping his hands around her non-existent baby bump.
“We’re….pregnant!” “You motherfucker.” Kenny surprisingly has a smile on his face. “So were just having sex without protection now Adam?” “Yeah what the hell?” The Bucks joked. “It’s ok, I’m going to be a dad!” Adam shouted in joy. The Elite congratulated the couple, surprised yet happy that they would be much more than dog parents now.

What Nick you’re not gonna sing it all with me this time?
After BTE, the group of Adam, Gabby, Adriana, Matt, Nick, and Kenny decided to hang out. “So you're actually pregnant right?” Kenny questioned. “Duh what you think?” “Maybe it was just for the show I don’t know.” “Well it’s not”
“Just know I’m happy for you two, I can put our differences aside for this.” Kenny reached in to give Gabby a hug. “Thank you Kenny, I appreciate it-“ she stopped when she felt Adam come from behind, placing a kiss on her neck. “Congrats on the baby man.” Kenny smiled at Adam, “Thank you Kenny.” Adam smiled back. “We should all take a pic, I won’t post till you guys announce the baby.” Nick came over. The four posed for the photo as Adam cupped gabby’s stomach and Kenny pointed his finger to the air, there were 2 of the 6 not in the photo tho.
Adriana stood in the corner of the EVP room smiling at her friends . Of course she was happy for Gabby and Page; though she barely met him or talked to him for a matter of fact she could tell he really loved Gabby. She was interrupted by her thoughts when someone tapped on her shoulder, “Hey! You must be Adriana, I’m Matt Jackson!” Adriana turnt so fast she got a little dizzy, she stumbled upon her feet and Matt held his hands out to catch her. “Woah- I’m so sorry, you scared me.” Matt chuckled as he noticed how pretty she was; he’s only seen clips of her online but up close she wasn’t half bad looking.
“Not everyday I can save a beautiful woman from falling on her face.” Adriana shot a confused look as he nervously chuckled, “Well, today is your lucky day. Thanks for scaring me…” Her eyes trailed up and down scanning the man head to toe. She noticed the perfect bun that sat on top of his head, the way he was still in gear from his match, and the way his eyes glistened as they stared at her lips, “You’re...um welcome? Hey look I know I’ve only known you for a couple minutes but-”
“Matt and Adriana stop being shy and come get in the picture! We’re not only celebrating a baby but our new signee for AEW! Man what a good day for us!” Nick exclaimed.
Adriana and Matt brought their eyes away from each other as they looked at the group. Gabby ran over and swooped Adriana away from Matt making him frown a little as Nick did the same. As they redid the picture Matt made sure to stand extra close to Adriana sliding his hand in her back pocket making her smirk. They smiled but Matt and Adriana smiled for different reasons . When they were done Adriana dragged Matt out the EVP room. “What the hell was that-“ Adriana started but was cut off with Hangman popping his head out asking if everything was okay.
Adriana started to reply but Matt cut her off, “We’re fine, but Adriana is starting to feel a little tired so I’m gonna take her to the hotel. Tell Gabby for us.” Hangman shot Matt an eye glance but shrugged it off as he made his way back in.
“I’m not tired Matt-” “You will be.”
Hotel Skip
Adam laid his head on Gabby’s lap as they watched t.v, Gabby running her fingers through his curly hair. “Y’know I’m really excited to be parents.” Adam said, turning down the volume. “I am too, especially with you around.” Adam sat up, grabbing Gabby’s hand, “And I’ll be by your side every step of the way.” Gabby smiled, “I love you.” “I love you too.” They closed the distance between themselves with a kiss.
It had only been a second before there was a knock on the door, Adam groaned and got up to answer it, “Oh, hey Parker.”
Parker waved awkwardly, looking back and forth at Adam and the floor, “Could I speak to Gabby?” He looked back in the room before looking at Parker, “One sec.” He closed the door, walking back into the room, “Who was it?” “Parker. She wants to talk to you.”
Gabby shook her head over and over, she didn’t want to hear Parker judging her anymore. The pair had rarely ever argued. Not seriously that is. They had helped each other with their happiness for years, but Gabby couldn’t even talk to her right now. “Gabby.” “I’m not talking to her, Adam.”
He crossed his arms and sat on the edge of the bed, “Talk to her Gabby. You guys are best friends, and I may not know Parker as well but I’m not letting you two drift apart, especially with you being pregnant.” Gabby rolled her eyes, “Fine, let her in.”
She stood up as Adam answered the door, Parker walked in, and looked like a wreck. It was clear she had been crying. “Hi Gab.” “Parker.”
They stood there awkwardly when Parker took a deep breath and spoke up, “Look...I’m so, so so sorry for how I acted earlier. This is one of the biggest moments in your life and I didn’t bother to be happy for you or even hug you cause I’m thinking about myself.” Parker started to cry again, “And I love you so much, I don’t want our friendship because I’m being selfish.”
Gabby started crying seeing Parker cry, “Parker it’s okay. I could’ve been helping you instead of patronizing you for eating ice cream.” They both laughed. “I love you too, and I can’t lose my best friend now.” Parker pulled Gabby in for a hug, both of them crying. They pulled away when Gabby yelled out, “We always look so ugly when we cry together.” They laughed once again.
Parker turned towards the man in the room, “Thank you Adam, you probably had to convince her.”
Adam tipped his imaginary hat, “Now I wonder if I can convince you to apologize to Chuck.” Parker shook her head, angry smile on her face, before she took a pillow from their bed and hit him with it, “You motherfucker.” She had hit him over and over before Gabby started hitting Parker, “Aye chill I ain’t gonna hit a pregnant lady!” “Wow Parkwe!” The two hit each other again and again.
While Adam smiled, knowing they would have some extra help around now that Gabby and Parker were best friends again.
Across the hall was a whole different story, when Cash knocked on Bri’s door.
“Marq will be here in an hour.” Bri said, pulling Cash into the room. “I can work with that.” He said before putting his mouth on Bri’s, walking them towards the bed. One by one, articles of clothing were stripped off until they were left in their underwear.
He detached their lips and started kissing at her neck, one of her weaknesses. “Cash..” She moaned, hands running through his hair. They were so into the moment they didn’t even hear the door open, but they did hear the voice of Marq, “Bri?”
The frantically looked at him in the doorway, a sad look on his face. “Marq!” She called as he started to walk away, she quickly pulled on her jeans and shirt that she and Cash had thrown on the floor, and chased after him into the parking lot. “Marq! Where are you going?” He had barely turned around, “For a drive.” “Please can we talk about this?!”
He turned around quickly, causing her to almost crash into him. She looked at his expression, not sad, not mad, but hurt. He had tears in his eyes, and his brows were furrowed, “Talk about what? That you’ve been cheating on me for God knows how long?!” Bri shook her head, “I didn’t mean to hurt you I just-” “You just couldn’t handle the fact that I haven’t asked you to be my girlfriend right away? I left the show early for you! I’ve been focusing more on you than my career! How is that not enough?”
She shook her head, “I don’t know, I guess I just...didn’t want to be patient. Sorry that you couldn’t give me what Cash was.” “What? Sex? Cause if so you can go back in there right now.”
“Marq that’s not what I meant.” “No it’s exactly what you meant,” He shook his head, “Who would’ve thought that out of you, Gabby and Parker...I got paired to work on Being The Elite with the one who would hurt me.” “Marq please..” She tried to grab his hand but he moved it away.
“You choose. Me or Cash. I love you, Bri. And if you don’t feel the same, don’t bother choosing me.” He took a box and a card out his bag before he got in his rental and drove off. She opened the card and read the note.
‘Bri, we’ve been hanging out, and doing a lot more for a few months. I can’t believe I’m saying this already, but I think I’m in love with you. You have sass and are so beautiful I can’t even think straight. So I have to ask, will you be my girlfriend?’ She opened the box and saw a beautiful bracelet. And she realized she really fucked up.
That’s all she could think about on the walk to her room, she walked in and saw Cash was gone, and he too left a note.
‘Hey Bri...what just happened was intense. Now though I enjoy what we do, I think I should just leave you alone, at least till I know I don’t have a target on my back. - Cash.’
Bri sunk to the ground, crying. Knowing that she now had to make the decision. Pleasure or love. And to her, that’s one of the hardest decisions of all.
SMUT WARNINGGGG
Far far away from the hotel, was a car with Adri and Matt, both making conversation.
“This isn’t the way to the hotel...” Adriana said as Matt just smirked at her. “I know it’s not, but you and I can’t deny we’ve been staring at each other all night long.” Matt shot back. There was no denying it. Ever since Adriana met Matt and his friends he could already tell she would be fun to have around.
“Matt, I barely know you-” Adriana started to speak but she instantly shut her mouth as Matt placed his hand on her thigh. “We don’t need to be the best of friends to have sex. I thought in the back of this car would be perfect, so we can both just get it out of our systems.” His hand began to slowly crawl up making its way to her core. Adriana could feel her stomach begin to twist, and she couldn’t lie and say she didn’t want this. She looked over at his face to see if he was being serious about this or not but her eyes were glued on his gigantic bulge as it began to turn her on.
Most of the time Adriana was the responsible one, never in a million years would her friends ever think of her as having one night stands. Tonight was different. Their lips began to feel each other and Matt asked for entrance by licking her bottom lip. Matt groaned as he began to get frustrated while Adriana chuckled which caused him to shoot his tongue right down her throat. Adriana couldn’t take the clothes anymore as she began to undo her seatbelt and remove her shirt, Matt got the idea and started to undo the belt on his jeans. Matt made his way to the back and Adriana followed as their lips connected once again.
As she straddled his legs she began to feel him through her shorts. She disconnected their lips and tried to get comfortable on the floor of the backseat beginning to throw her hair up in a ponytail. As she struggled with getting all her hair up, Matt began to ramble, “You know, I’ve never actually done this in the backseat of a car before. But I don't know, you might be a pro. Oh God if Nick finds out I had car sex with someone i just met he’s gonna-” His sentence ended with a groan as Adriana’s mouth met his staff. She moved up and down smirking as his groans filled the car, thank god they were in an empty parking lot. His fingers clasped on the back seat as he used his other hand to push her down making it touch the back of her throat. “Oh- oh my god Adri, I’m about to cum.” Matt groaned. He released into her mouth making her hum in delight as she swallowed it and licked her lips clean. He made sure he was still in the back of the car, and not in heaven as he felt his surroundings. Adriana chuckled as she began to put her shirt back on. “Well, that was…something else.” Matt joked.
Adriana rolled her eyes, “it’s getting late we should head back to the hotel before they think something bad happened to us.” Matt got into the driver's seat and started the car, “Sweetheart, there was nothing bad with what just happened. Sucks this is a one time thing.“ he moved his hand to her thigh lightly massaging it. “Yea…one time…right, it depends if you can actually keep it in your pants, I’ll definitely be back soon though.” Matt grinned as they pulled up to the hotel. “I’ll see you later, we can not tell anyone about this. At least for now.” Adriana chuckled as she got out of the car. “Your secret is safe with me, Massie.”

[18+ advised ] This is going to be long af. I’m going to do my best to put everything - all my writing on this blog, in one goddamn place, but I make no promises, so forgive me in advance. Below the cut is everything I’ve written and posted, for every single wrestler I’ve written for so far.  If its’ not linked, then I haven’t posted it yet or it’s a placeholder. If it’s bolded/has an m out beside it, it is most definitely mature and only meant for a mature (18+) audience. If there’s an asterisk (*) out beside the title, it belongs to or is part of something else that I have on the blog.
If you want to be on the taglist for my writing, you can find that [here]. If you want to know what I write / how often I write and stuff like that, my faq/about post is [here]
