I don't think I'm gonna be able to get out the holiday special fic i considered writing, so instead I'm just going to share a series of sweet ideas/prompts i've been thinking about in the Streamman saga

Every year Fang invites Gordon and Joshua to celebrate one of the nights of Hanukkah with him, but it is winter in the year 2020, and the poor guy is having cold symptoms. He hasn't tested positive for anything but doesn't feel safe having company over, so he puts the tradition on hold... until Bubby and Coomer invite the non-AIs to hold the festivities at their home in-game.

The mail distributor for Gordon's apartment complex is confused when packages start showing up addressed to people whose names they don't recognize, and who definitely don't live in that two-bedroom with the guy and his son. But Gordon accepts the packages with starry eyes, wrapping them and putting them under the tree without checking the contents. And inside his computer, the Science Team continue to divide up their twitch stream income to see if they have any more holiday gifts to order for their friend on the Outside.

Benrey commissioned a plush artist on Etsy to make this fucker as Gordon's Christmas present and Gordon has to decide how to feel

Everyone except Gordon (VR, baby) gets absolutely hammered at Tommy's New Years party and realize all too late that having Darnold in charge of drinks makes for weird hangovers. Can anyone try and get Tommy off the ceiling? Not Bubby, I think he and Sunkist got body swapped or something. No it's okay Sunkist is over 21 in dog years

I'm curious as to what those of y'all who have interfaith families (including and maybe especially people who have them via conversion) handle celebrating multiple, overlapping holidays.

My mom is doing holiday gift-giving/traditional large meal on the 21st while my dad's family is pretty traditional about Christmas on the 25th. I am going to bring my menorah home and light it but while I have had it lit in the same room as a Christmas tree before it always feels a bit weird. But I also don't want to just light it alone while staying with my non-Hanukkah celebrating family (who have no problem with my Jewishness and Judaism btw. That's not an issue).

Idk. I just kinda feel odd and I am happy to go back to my home state/home town, but I wish I'd made more of an effort to coordinate my travel plans so I could at least spend part of the holiday with other Jews.

#I don't mind participating in Xmas traditions with my Xmas-celebrating family members #I dont celebrate Christmas in the sense that I didn't do anything special for it in 2020 when I couldn't travel #but it's also the one time of the year I get to see everyone from my extended family all at once #so I don't have an issue participating in traditions (especially ones involving alcohol) like gift-giving and so forth #that's not the problem I just don't know why I feel strangely awkward about integrating Hanukkah into the family in a way that doesn't feel #shoehorned or oddly cornered #(since obvs the mitzvah of lighting the menorah happens at sundown which is also usually when my family does dinner/gift giving etc)

LMAO u have no idea how long i’ve been waiting for someone to ask me this. warning this is long and tells like. the entire story of our friendship which is probably more than u asked for haha

i’ll give the TL;DR here and the full story uner the cut

TL;DR: we were best friends for about 3 years, she found out i had feelings for her, and, though she promised she would stay friends with me, ended up completely abandoning me, refusing to ever speak to me again.

ok so exbestfriend (i’ll call her R) and i became friends in my very first class of freshman year of college. we really hit it off and had like completely compatible ADHD wavelengths. i wouldn’t say we were inseprable that year bc i had other friends we spent more time with but her and I, along with another girl from our class (who was kinda insane. i’ll call her G) would spend a lot of time together. sophmore year R and i got closer and started spending a lot more time together. she was kinda my best friend at that point but also didn’t go to the play that i starred in and worked really hard on which was a minor thing but something i still remember. second semester sophomore year we got a lot closer and spent a lot more time together, often without G. middle of the semester i realized i was in love with R (i remember the exact date actually. feb 28 2020.) but youse know how 2020 was, we got sent home for covid.

during the pandemic i took a gap year and R did zoom college but she and i stayed very close in touch, facetiming and texting all the time. we even sent *handwritted letters* to eachother which i still have. in fact she was the *only* person from college who kept in touch with me then. she usually seemed too busy but tried to make time for me. during this time i fell more in love with her.

first semester my junior, R’s senior year was mostly a really good time for me (until the end which we will get to.) we were finally able to see eachother in person after over a year. G wasn’t there to third wheel because she was studying abroad. and R and i became inseparable, even deciding to take a class together (economics, which i loved and R hated). we also became part of a larger friend group which was great for me because i never had that, but still were closer with eachother than the rest of the group. we spent as much time together as possible and saw eachother almost every day. i will admit i was a little to clingy to her at times but she didn’t seem to mind. during this time she was very affectionate and caring towards me. she even did little things that made me think she may have returned my feelings like holding my hand. the other girls in our friend group seemed to believe that R may have liked me as well.

and here’s the part you’ve all been waiting for IF YOU ARE HERE FOR THE BREAKUP START READING HERE: for hanukkah i knitted her a pair of mittens, which i gave her along with a letter borderline confessing my feelings to her. after reading the letter she called me, told me she didn’t return my feelings and that in fact she now felt uncomfortable with me hugging her or telling her i loved her (as a friend) but said she would still would remain friends with me no matter what. the next day we had a convo over text where she said some pretty hurtful things which caused me to kind of act out the next time i saw her at a get together with the rest of our friends. the last time i saw her in person that semester (or, spoiler alert, ever) was when i had to beg her to drive me to the airport to go home for the semester because i could not get an uber but she only did so begrudingly (even tho before my confession of love she had planned to take me to the airport that day)

during winter break i tried reaching out to her to talk things out but she said we didn’t need to. i tried to text her about the game we both played (genshin impact haha) but she would never respond. when we got back to school i kept trying to get her to hang out with our friend group but she always said she had something going on or straight up not responding. she didn’t text me on my birthday either. eventually at the end of february, i think my other friend (who is currently my only remaining friend from that group fun fact) contacted her and told R how bad i was doing because of her absence (oh yeah i forgot to mention, i became suicidally depressed from R’s absence) so R called me and while we argued about a bunch of stuff and she was somewhat homophobic towards me (she said she was more comfortable being friends with G because G was straight) she eventually told me that yes we could be friends again she just needed more time. which i guess i was ok with but it did not stop me from being suicidally depressed.

a month later i reach out to R like hey i really miss being friends could you let me know when you want to be friends again. a WEEK after me sending that text she responds and tells me she doesn’t want to be friends ever again and says some more hurtful shit. that’s the last i’ve heard from her. i almost offed myself at this.

rest of that semester goes badly, my depression gets worse and worse to the point that i lose the rest of my friends except for one (who happens to share a name with R, a sick coincidence) because they can’t deal with it. also R blocks me on instagram and genshin impact.

my depression is a bit better now, it was super treatment resistant so i changed meds a few times. but i’m still not fully recovered from this and i never will be. all i want in life is to have her back. there is an R shaped hole in me that will never and can never be filled. i’m not sure if i’m capable of ever loving again.

I have to say, however bad it gets looking at a Holiday Special list of titles and characters, DC's almost always got SOMETHING there that makes me say "yeah boi!"

For DC's Very Merry Multiverse #1 (2020), it's the fact there's a PREZ RICKARD story.

I know. All things for all folks, people. Hopefully something else catches me as I go. I'm not actually across a lot of the most recent multiverse shenanigans but let's go.

It's a Horrible Life! - Harley Quinn. It's a Wonderful Life retelling for Harley, hopping between universes.

Christmas by Gaslight - Batman. Batman is chasing Eel O'Brien (who just stole a load of toys) and Mr Freeze (who is TRYING to steal the load of toys) and Eel accidentally blows up Victor, causing it to snow across Gotham (and drop toys in the street for all the children of the city).

To Stop the Star-Conqueress! - Teen Justice. I...don't really care about this genderswapped universe, but the concept of Klarienne the Witch Girl keeps making me giggle. Klarienne. KLARIENNE. Anyway the Teen Justice team defeat Starrla doing the space starfish thing. (Also this is VERY mixed up in terms of timeline. How are 'Donald Troy' and 'Laurel Kent' reasonably on the same team? They're based on characters 3 hero generations apart!)

Bizarro Love Holiday - President Superman. This is about the made up holiday "Day of Giving/Day of Receiving", which Bizarro hates as nobody has ever given him a present before. A cute small child decides his characteristic speech patterns are sarcasm and gives him his first present.

Holidays Beyond - Batman Beyond. Terry gets zapped/hallucinates with the bends and does a *sigh* Christmas Carol three ghosts of past, present and future. Dustin Nguyen's baby Bruce is the most adorable thing ever.

Night of the Magi - The League of Shadows. So the League of Shadows is basically a Justice League Dark/Shadowpact lineup? They're out to defend Saturnalia from the Lord of Misrule. Also there's a Ragman origin story in here.

Have Yourself a Bizarro Little Christmas - The Unjustice League of Unamerica. It's SANTA TIME!

Bizarro is trying out Christmas gift giving in Bizarro World but it's not working too well. Then Zanta of the Intergalactic Santa Corps arrives! Zanta is charged with spreading the joy of Christmas...whether people like it or not.

(BTW these elves really need the Elves Union, time to unionise little buddies)

Only, it being Bizarro World, he fails. Sorry, Zanta.

'Twas the Night - Booster Gold. Booster fights Maxwell Lord at his Planet Krypton restaurant (we find out that this was a staged fight to entertain the diners).

Prez Rickard's Magical Sci-Fi Desolate Souls Club Holiday Special - Prez. I'm quietly devastated Beth Ross doesn't appear in this.

Hmmm. I'm...not thrilled at the way Prez is used here in Earth 47? Now being an aficionado of Prez lore, I am able to say that Prez out there selling things on a TV show via performing acts doesn't gel with the original Prez run (where he was all too earnest about solving problems), what I'm going to call the Vertigo Prez universe (where he left the White House and disappeared and became sort of a totem to people), or to the New 52 Prez run (where after being President he became a senator for years/hung around lobbying Congress).

It feels like it's trying to be 70s zany without engaging with ANY of the existing Prez lore. Disappointing.

A Very Lobo Hanukkah - Lobo. Been a while since we had a Lobo story. Lobo's saving the dolphins!

Having now read several decades of 'DC does a Hanukkah story' in the last week, they've definitely evolved over time from 'look at this very base level explanation where we acknowledge not everyone is Christian' to this, which from my understanding is both engaging with traditional texts AND also running around gleefully with an attitude of 'we are allowed to adapt things and tell more complex narratives'. (However I am unsure of whether anyone stopped to think before using the KJV translation of Maccabees here)

The Definition of Anything  [2020]

The heater in Peter's apartment goes out on the coldest day of the year and the landlord seemed to be overrun with maintenance requests. Calling Tony to help him out seemed like the next logical solution. After all, he had told him many, many times that he should call him if he ever needed anything.  The man had never really specified what 'anything' meant but he figured that by definition, 'I'm cold and you know how to fix things.', fell into that category. Right?

Secret Sugarplum Spiderling [2020]

Peter has been taking ballet for nearly as long as he can remember and all of his hard work has finally paid off. He's been cast as the Cavelier to the Sugarplum Fairy in his Performing Arts School's production of The Nutcracker. It's a big deal and it's going to take up a good bit of time but... he's just not sure he's ready for his mentor to know about that particular hobby just yet. He's sure it'll be fine ... All he has to do is show up at the studio on time, keep his grades up, make sure to see Tony on a regular enough basis that he doesn't worry and try to squeeze in some patrolling in between. It's that simple. Right?

Holiday Traditions [2021]

When a brief misunderstanding leaves Morgan thinking that Peter doesn’t like Christmas, Peter decides that it would be fun to teach her more about Hanukkah. In order to do so, he and May invite the Starks' to share in some of their holiday traditions.[This story is part of a post-Endgame AU. However, it can easily be read on it's own!]

Well, Merry Sickmas, I Guess [2021]

Peter is sick, Christmas is right around the corner and May had no idea how to help him. Naturally they end up in Tony’s medbay. It doesn’t take long for Peter to be diagnosed with nothing more than some mild dehydration and a nasty stomach bug. However, knowing she can’t take Peter to just any hospital should things go downhill, leaves May feeling a little nervous. …And that’s how Peter and May end up spending the holiday with Tony Stark in his Penthouse apartment. [12/14] Now featuring a short and completely unplanned Bruce Banner centric chapter 2!

Merry Stitchamas  [2022]

All Peter wanted to was to cook May a really nice dinner for when she got home from her Christmas Eve shift. He'd thought it out and was excited to put it all together-- until the knife slipped and he accidentally cut his thumb. The good news is, he knows exactly who to call.

“Hey, Mr. Stark!” Peter greeted with as much enthusiasm as he could pull together given the circumstances. “I, uh, I know it’s Christmas Eve and all, but can I ask you a really quick question?”

Snow-cation [2023]

After Tony's elaborate family winter getaway plans are grounded due to the early arrival of some snow, Peter does his best to make sure everyone still has a good time. Especially Tony, who seems more than a little put out by the disruption.

Toasty Warm  [2023]

Peter comes to the tower after a night of patrolling in the cold- with a broken heater. Tony helps him warm up, with hot cocoa and warm blankets, and a hoodie straight from the dryer.

🆕 Best Night Ever  [2023]

Peter’s been promised a night of ice skating. At first, things didn't go quite as he planned. But in a joyful turn of events, he ends up having a night filled with unexpected surprises, a walk in the snow, the promised ice skating adventure and several heartwarming moments. It all wraps up with a few holiday treats and a lot of family bonding.

Santa Impersonator Happy [Dec. 14th 2023]

Happy walks into the F.E.A.S.T. building prepared to drop off a check and leave. Then Peter uses his big brown eyes to convince him to stay and help out. He just wished he'd asked a few more questions before agreeing.

How Spidey Saved Christmas [Dedc. 20th 2023]

After rescuing a few stolen shopping bags, Spider-Man stumbles upon Santa Claus and his damaged sleigh in Central Park. With Tony's help, Peter is able to get Santa back in the air, thus saving Christmas. As an added bonus, he’s able to get Tony back the nice list as well. Santa thanks Peter by inviting him to assist in delivering some gifts Including the ones he’d saved! Together, they fly through the night, spreading holiday cheer. "Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!"

So when I fandom, I do some weird detail seeking. Case and point, Ed Tucker’s (Where The Stars Fell) birthday is on Christmas. The evening before starts the third day of Hanukkah, meaning Hanukkah started on December 22. This show takes place after TikTok became popular in 2018. The only year this works out in recent history is in 2019. So WTSF takes place in 2019-2020 (which I don’t think is ever stated in the show) and Ed is the cause of the COVID-19 apocalypse. So Ed Tucker turned 32 on December 25, 2019. So Ed Tucker was born on December 25, 1987.
