Just curious, does anybody know how old Leafstar’s kit’s would be by the beginning of power of three? Are they even born yet?

In Skyclan and the stranger, Sol leaves skyclan just as they’re born, and i assume he goes straight to the other clans, so then he appears in the middle of PO3.

Are her kits born yet by the sight? Or would they be newborns around Eclipse?

Gonna use this Little Shop blog to talk about Warrior Cats for a second (haven't read the books in years but I'll try to not get anything wrong)

Nightheart should've been replaced by Harrybrook

This guy was named after a person who in-universe is considered to be one of the greatest villains his clan had ever known (even though Sol is actually pathetic) while his siblings are named after some of the greatest heroes his clan had ever known

Except he has the name that Sol was known by before he became known as a traitor to Riverclan

And iirc he and his siblings had a decent relationship with him and were only kits when he was exiled

I'm fascinated by the concept of this character, he has this villain's legacy looming over his head except it's by a name that members of the other clans and a lot of his clanmates don't know

I imagine that he often struggles under the weight of having to decide if he'll disclose this information to those he gets close to, that he has this tie to someone who terrorized them and their family and friends and clan

Basically it actually makes sense for him to be angsty over his name, or at least it makes way more sense than it does for Nightheart

It would be kinda funny if he was delusional like Nightheart though, like he thinks his name is a huge deal but no one cares about Sol anymore in comparison to Darktail (who indirectly caused the deaths of his sisters)

And really with all the drama going on in ASC no one cares about Darktail anymore either

And then Sol gets taken in by Skyclan as an elder and it just goes downhill for Harrybrook from there

Harrybrook clanswitching 'to get away from Sol's legacy' but really it's to get away from the fact that his clan apparently can't produce villains that cause lasting change to the clans/cause changes to clan society in general (which ties into them assimilating culturally to the other clans and not doing things like daylight warriors anymore) and his connection to Sol isn't nearly as big as deal as he thought it was (as well as Sol's stupid face) would be really funny actually and a cool way to introduce platonic clanswitching

And then he realizes that Thunderclan is just as culturally stagnant as Skyclan and the clans as a whole are like that

His connection to Sol through his name could be played straight or not or somewhere in between, it'd be interesting to see

For my Little Shop followers: it'd be strange and interesting to see

sorry if this is a stupid question, but is fading kitten syndrome a common issue among the clans?

Not a stupid question! :)

It can certainly be an issue, as the loss can be quite traumatic.

Dappletail's son Featherkit faded at 6 weeks.

Bellaleaf and Harrybrook's 2 other daughters, Webkit and Wolfkit. Webkit passed at 3 days old, Wolfkit passed at 8 days.

Cloudpelt's sister, Littlekit, at 1 week.

Elderleaf, Dandeliontuft, Lynxpetal, and Shadowsight were all thought the be suffering from this. Elderleaf, Lynxpetal and Dandeliontuft received round-the-clock care, whereas Shadowsight was given a closer look at by Spiresight, who determined that while he wasn't the healthiest kitten in the world, he wasn't Fading.

Those examples above each had different feelings around them.

For Dappletail, she was told that her son was quite weak, and to hope for the best, but brace for the worst. She was on a high from dumping Stormtail, and kept her head high. She treated him normally, had him learn a tiny amount of Glyphs upon realizing he was deaf, but when his body began to fail, he was her tiny baby once more. At 6 weeks he should have been running around, playing... She cuddled with him and helped him sleep easy.

Bellaleaf and Harrybrook took it so badly... When Wolfkit did not wake up from her nap, they panicked and called for Freckleshine and Fidgetflake, but nothing could be done. Bellaleaf and Harrybrook became ferociously protective of their other 2 babies. Days later, when Webkit's blood pressure dropped suddenly, and she grew cold, Freckleshine fought hard to save her, but it wasn't enough. The couple had a single daughter remaining, one who would struggle deeply with the issues she had had since birth, and they poured as much quiet love they could into her, praying in terror that Starclan would not take their final child...

Cloudpelt and Littlekit's parents, Toadskip, Nettlespot and Poolcloud, knew their children were not born strong. They even named one Littlekit for how tiny she was. While Poolcloud was a but less involved, she helped out with Cloudkit while Nettlespot and Toadskip spent every day they could with Littlekit. They leant on their religious beliefs for comfort, that Starclan must have needed her, or that she was going to play with other kits in Starclan. They were sad, of course, but they handled it with grace, and were happy to be reunited with their child when the time came.

Fading Kitten Syndrome is an issue, it can be sadly common, it can be why some cats are reluctant to name their kits for a little while, where some name them the moment they can.

The beliefs around it are what can help shape family culture! Graypool's kin are incredibly sentimental about newborn kittens, whereas the ancient cat Briar Bloom, famous for nursing Thunderstar as a baby, did not name her child until she reached 1 moon, as she had 2 kits, but one Faded. The other being Rabbit Spring/Rabbit Bloom, Thunder Storm's foster sister.

Leafstar’s Children

Name ideas for the three under the cut.

Firefern keeps her Fire- prefix until she joins ThunderClan. I’m thinking maybe Maple-, Russet- or Red- for her.

As for suffix I’d either make her a -fur or a -storm. Since she is up and down in who she is, but her attitude in Ravenpaw’s farewell seemed way more extreme than in Hawkwing’s Journey. Rip to her moving to ThunderClan, Firestorm could’ve been a cool name.

So uh- Maplestorm/Maplefur, Russetstorm/Russetfur or Redstorm/Redpelt for her.

Stormheart I’m gonna change to Robin-, and her suffix will be -pelt or maybe -stripe. So Robinfur or Robinstripe for her.

Also changed her to a normal tortie instead of ginger and grey. Also made her a tabby cause I can

I do kind of want to move the Storm- prefix over to Harrybrook, but I’m not sure yet. If not then maybe Smoke- or Stone-. But he’s a -heart as he’s willing to follow his moral code even if it does hurt him (such as leaving his mother and Clan to follow and keep Echosong safe).

So Stormheart (stolen from sister), Smokeheart or Stoneheart for him.

I’ll probably go ahead and keep their dad Billystorm. But he’s not in SkyClan. Just a kittypet instead.

Small detour into Leafstar and her family, and also Sol and Misha and Echosong. These were made as references for Mt Washington - Leafstar PMV (13+) - YouTube, and in the original script it had Misha make an appearance, but I changed it and now she doesn't. I also apparently forgot to save these to the folder, and kinda lost them then, so I took screenshots from the Instagram post they're in.

why do you abhor the skyclan naming practices? personally I think they're the best part of skyclan because even if the names sound silly it creates a whole different culture around names and touches root with the base of the clans revival through kittypets and loners

A lot of it comes from the fact I'm reading it in french, and even if, like, Billystorm sounds kinda cute in english, it is completely untranslatable in french and sounds just dumb. Same with all the other names. Harveymoon translates to Lune de Harvey, Billystorm to Tempête de Billy? That makes no sense. I mean if you don't speak french you'll have to take my word for it but that makes no sense and is also very ugly.

There's also a little part of me that feels like Leafstar just... doesn't have the charisma or the willingness to really make her clan a real clan, like Daylight Warriors are some of it, but not even giving fulltime warriors names that are completely clan-like is another part of the problem. Egg or Tree for example. And obviously naming her own kit Harrykit...

I mean it makes something like 75% I hate it because of translation and meta problems, 15% because it feels like kinda cheap "cultural difference" mixed with a personnal feeling that it hinders Leafstar's leadership to have her not even being able to impose clan names to half her warriors (problem that Firestar has too with Millie and Daisy, and that Cedarstar had with Boulder, too, but Leafstar can't even get them to be fulltime warriors, too), and 10% of just... irrationnal personnal distate for names such as Billystorm and Harvemoon.
