'As capable as a son': Indians say no to the abortion of girls
The preference for sons in India - seen as breadwinners who will carry on the family name and perform the last rites for their parents - has led to the illegal abortion of millions of female foetuses, particularly in northern states like Haryana.
But the latest government data and anecdotal evidence from women and health experts suggests that trend is changing due to education, the success of high-profile Indian women in business and sport and a crackdown on clinics that illegally abort girls.
For the first time, the national family health survey (NFHS) of 2019-21 found that females outnumber males - with 1,020 females for every 1,000 males. In the last NFHS of 2015-16, there were 991 females for every 1,000 males.
Several women's rights activists said they were skeptical about the figure because it only sampled 637,000 households in a country of 1.3 billion people and were waiting to see the results of the 2021 census, which has been delayed by COVID-19.
But women and community leaders say sexist attitudes are starting to shift as parents see that daughters can contribute financially, rather than being a burden, requiring a dowry when they marry.
There is no official data on sex-selective abortions.
But the U.N. sexual and reproductive health agency, UNFPA, estimates that India lost about 590,000 girl children to pre-natal sex selection every year between 2015 and 2020 and that about 46 million women and girls were missing in India in 2020.

Match 'Tie' between U Mumba and Haryana Steelers
Mumbai, January 10, 2024: The 10th Pro Kabaddi League in Mumbai ended the season in a feast for the spectators as the match between U Mumba and Haryana Steelers ended in a tight draw. Amir Mohammad Jafar Danish who scored 14 points in the match along with Jaideep Dahiya's 8 catches were the highlights of the match and the match was tied 44-44.
In this match held at NSCI Stadium, Haryana Steelers got off to a very fast start and took an 11-6 lead over U Mumba in the seventh minute thanks to Jaideep Dahiya's catch. U Mumba, who were trailing this time, were saved by Aamir Mohammad Jaffer Danish's forays and Siddharth Desai's super raid to reduce their deficit to just three points at the interval.
After the interval, however, the Haryana Steelers players extended their lead to 9 points with some excellent runs and super tackles. U Mumba played a cautious game and fell in phases to get the first loan against Haryana Steelers and draw 30-30.
However, as before, Haryana Steelers made a quick comeback and took a 5-point lead again by loaning it to U Mumba. Just as the outcome of the match was becoming clear, U Mumba scored a second loan on the Haryana Steelers to level the score at 44-44 with just 40 seconds remaining. This dilemma could not be resolved in the rest of the time. So this fight ended in a draw.

ED Conducts 25 Raids in Rajasthan in ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’ Money Laundering Probe
ED Raids Rajasthan in ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’
As part of their money laundering inquiry into the Center’s “Jal Jeevan Mission” execution in the state set to hold elections, the Enforcement Directorate searched 25 locations throughout Rajasthan on Friday.
The Additional Chief Secretary’s office in the Public Health Engineering Department, Subodh Agarwal, is one of the locations targeted by the raids in the Congress-ruled state of Jaipur and Dausa.
Some engineers, contractors, and former state government officials whose properties are suspected of having connections to the affair are also being covered. The Prevention of Money Laundering Act’s (PMLA) guidelines are being followed when conducting the searches.
Similar raids were also conducted by the Enforcement Directorate in a number of Rajasthani cities on September 1.
The Rajasthan Police’s earlier First Information Report serves as the foundation for the ED’s money laundering probe.
Tumblr media
In June of current year, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Kirodi Lal Meena claimed that the central government’s “Jal Jeevan Mission” in Rajasthan was a ₹20,000 crore scam.
In 48 projects under the plan, he had claimed that two firms had been awarded tenders worth ₹900 crore on the basis of forged experience certificates.
Implemented by the Rajasthan Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), the ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’ seeks to supply safe and sufficient drinking water through household tap connections.
In the meantime, the state Congress president Govind Singh Dotasara’s homes in Sikar and Jaipur’s capital city were raided by the ED last month. Vaibhav Gehlot, child of the state’s main priest Ashok Gehlot, was additionally brought in for cross examination in an Unfamiliar Trade The board Act (FEMA) issue.
The choice Congress rebuked the movement, examining the “timing,” “objective,” and “point” of the public government.

The Rajasthan Get together’s 200 seats will be on the voting form on November 25. The outcomes will be relied on December 3.

Cyber Crime: Earning five crores every day from one call, know what is the secret of thug's earnings?
Tumblr media
Police all over the country are working tirelessly to tackle the growing threat of cybercrime. In their efforts to catch criminals engaged in this type of illegal activity, state police forces are conducting raids in various locations. Recently, the Mumbai police successfully busted a gang of cybercriminals who had been making millions of rupees through fraudulent activities. What is surprising is that the mastermind behind this operation had only completed his high school education and was able to earn up to five crore rupees every day.
According to police reports, the gang was involved in various incidents of cheating across the country. The mastermind behind the operation, Srinivasa Rao Dadi, has been arrested by the Bangula Nagar police from a luxurious hotel in Hyderabad. Despite having limited formal education, Dadi had all the knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in the world of cybercrime. He interacted with his victims via Telegram and was also involved in real estate business.

In addition to Dadi, the police have arrested four more members of his gang. It is worth noting that Dadi had approximately 40 bank accounts, containing over 1.5 crore rupees. The police have seized all these accounts. The gang would make phone calls to women, pretending to be law enforcement officials, and threaten them with arrest for sending drugs and weapons via courier. The terrified women would then provide the fraudsters with all their bank account details, which the gang would use to empty their accounts. The gang had successfully cheated thousands of people in this way.
All the money that the gang members made from their fraudulent activities was kept in Dadi's bank accounts. According to official reports, transactions ranging from 5 crore rupees to 10 crore rupees took place in these accounts on a daily basis. Dadi would then convert this money into cryptocurrency and send it to a Chinese national. The police are still investigating the gang's activities in various cities, including Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Jharkhand, Haryana, and Maharashtra.
To avoid becoming a victim of cybercrime, there are several things that individuals can do. For example, if you receive fraudulent calls, you can block the number. Never share your OTP (one-time password) with anyone as this could lead to trouble. You can also use the Do Not Disturb (DND) service to prevent fraudulent calls. Additionally, if you receive a fake call, never share any information with the caller.

If you do become a victim of cybercrime, you should report it immediately. The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a helpline number, 1930, which can be used to report cybercrime. This number acts as an emergency hotline and immediate action will be taken to address the issue.
In conclusion, the rise of cybercrime is a serious concern, and law enforcement agencies are working hard to tackle this problem. However, individuals also have a role to play in protecting themselves from cybercriminals. By following some basic precautions, such as blocking fraudulent calls and never sharing sensitive information with strangers, we can reduce our risk of becoming victims of cybercrime. If you do fall victim to this type of crime, it is important to report it immediately so that the authorities can take appropriate action.
