my greatest achievement in DA2 is maxing out Carver's friendship

and all it took was begrudgingly kissing a little templar ass in act 1 because Carver didn't want to plan a prison break if my Hawke got his ass arrested for being stupid.

#carver hawke #dragon age #dragon age 2 #da2 #well that and he didn't want leandra gamlen and himself to also get arrested for harboring an apostate but you get me #carver hawke loves his sibling and doesn't want them to get taken away that's why he's such an ass and approves of 'pro-templar' choices #in act 1 he's not pro-templar himself but kissing a little templar ass is how you avoid being arrested #'why yes cullen you are so right the templars are so cool and sexy' my hawke says through gritted teeth for that +5 friendship #look i love him okay he's my favorite and i will go the extra mile to make him happy and it's worth it for how much softer can be later on #honestly maxing out his friendship isn't hard if you're aware of what quests you're bringing him on and make him a grey warden #oh but you do need the legacy dlc otherwise you can't fully max friendship out... you can still get enough to change his dialogue/attitude #also like... we the player know hawke won't be arrested like they're not in any actual dangers from the templars as the playable character #but carver doesn't know that and neither does hawke so the templars *are* a real threat to them #and it's incredibly reckless to purposely piss off templars AND selfish because it's not just hawke that'll be arrested it's their family #for harboring them like we witness templars going after people hiding apostates soooo.....#i'm just saying that carver isn't irrational or just being an ass to personally annoy you okay he has cause #also once carver's a warden and ed has money and the estate THEN he's way more open about telling the templars to piss off #sigh one day i'll sit down and write an essay about carver.... one day

I love Malcolm Hawke's first dialogue in Legacy (the one you get if you unbind the shade kept trapped by two seals in a little cell). clearly this whole business was the darkest shittiest time of his life and he's selling his soul and betraying every single one of his principles and everything, but he sounds so endearingly... snippy and exasperated about the wardens using demons willy nilly. the "listen I know I'm up to some shady stuff here and everything but let it not be said I was untidy. I'm fixing your shit as far as I'm able here. you will not be able to pin this one on me. these demons were here before I arrived, this is on the record now" energy. the way he's taking time out of his day to be responsible and enforce mage OSHA regulations in the middle of maybe the most hilariously irresponsible thing anyone's ever done after the magisters tried to break into the golden city. exquisite. the real Hawke family curse is having to specify that actually not all of the catastrophe was your fault okay this is at least like... 30% not on me this time. I. I tried. everything was on fire and I had a children's toy bucket and a bottle of rum on hand

#I've never played Legacy (or Mark of the Assassin) before so I'm having a ball lol #I love snarky!hawke in MotA in that he's such a callous asshole in a very specific and endearing way #it's the *shrug* all of my friends are crazy and most of them are killers what do you want from me here blaséness that does me in #bitch if you want my genuine emotional engagement you're going to have to do much much wilder than this #that and the hilarity of ignoring the call towards noble action tallis tries to pull on you and going 'no. fuck this' and just leaving #brilliant #dragon age #dragon age 2 #I have so many thoughts about malcolm as the ghost who is always hovering over the narrative #especially since it's very much implied your hawke takes after him no matter which personality type you chose #(right down to sharing a voice actor with male hawke -- do you think the twins look over at their brother and almost think #that it's their dad for a moment sometimes? I have feelings and thoughts all over the place)#a ghost varric has only ever met through the reflection he left behind in his children and especially hawke #the ghost of a ghost through the story. so interesting

As Loch entered the dining room, Mist caught sight of River and Chad resting at a table with her parents. Though the camera swiftly passed over the scene, she was sure she also briefly glimpsed Havoc speaking with Asher in the corner. “I’m sure you’ve seen enough of the grooms by now, anyway, and you can speak to Mum and Dad on someone else’s time. So, who else is there? Ah, yes, Hawk and Char, say hello to Mist!” The pair smiled and waved happily, though Loch quickly moved on before they could say anything. “That’s totally-normal-champagne glass number three, for anyone keeping count at home, by the way,” Loch stage whispered into the phone, and Mist chuckled. Suddenly, one small, silver-haired toddler appeared from under a tablecloth, whilst Heaven ran squealing away from her parents and right into Loch's path, almost tripping him over. He cussed quietly under his breath, though chuckled immediately after. “So anyway, did you know they’ve been dating for, like, two years? Because Maurice and I fucking did not. Oop, better not say that name here. ANYWAY. Bit too late for fake champers here, eh, Sky? How are the ankles?” “Still swollen as fuck, thank you very much.” The camera moved up from a pair of trainers to show Sky flashing him a snarky grin and a middle finger. “Hey, now, no swearing; our baby sis is on the line.” The feed switched to the front camera, and Loch came into frame, leaning in to wrap an arm around Sky's shoulder, grinning into the camera. “She already learnt all the best curses from me years ago. Hey Missy! You know you can hang up on him the second he gets too much, right?” “He’s actually marginally less annoying like this.” “Tell me about it. Takes a minimum of two drinks to turn Princess Uptight into someone bearable.” “Okay, y’know what, you can chat shit on me in your own time. Say byyyye balloon feet.” Another middle finger and Sky vanished off the screen.
