MY HEART. It’s more than just the inherent heartwarming-ness of it all. I can’t help but remember Aelwyn Abernant during sophomore year, imprisoned in an orb and tortured for months and months on end, until her mind had been irreparably damaged. Abandoned by her shitty parents who couldn’t care less about her actual treatment because she was still technically alive. Abandoned by her evil comrades because she wasn’t worth the effort to try and save after she’d completed her part of the plan.

Saved by her little sister after everybody else gave up on her, despite the cruelty and cowardice that had defined their relationship up to that point.

I know that Adaine hit a big reset button in Aelwyn’s brain and restored her mind to its pre-catatonic state, but she still knows exactly what she’s been through. The body keeps the score, and despite her sinister-yet-flirty exterior she is deeply wounded from everything that’s happened to her.

And that’s why it’s so wonderful and heartbreaking to see her care for so many rescue cats. Someone must be there to save the mangy, the wounded, the undesirables. She doesn’t love them despite the fact that they’re all little shits, but because of it. Everybody else has given up on them, too.

Aelwyn Abernant is a vicious, conniving, and deeply traumatized feral cat and I wouldn’t have her any other way.
