🍄 🐸 🌷 🥀 🐌 // poison garden // gouache on hot press paper
everything pictured in this piece is a poison: henbane in blue, belladonna in green, amanita muscaria in red, rosy bonnet in pink, lily of the valley, strawberry poison dart frogs, hickory tussock moth & caterpillar, ladybug. not the snails, though! they're just hanging.
[id: an illustrative gouache painting on a dark background. lush intertwined botanicals with textured blue and green leaves weave between red, white, and pink flowers. red frogs and ladybugs perch on stems, colorful pink and red mushrooms burst from the ground, and a moth hangs off a leaf. snails stroll quietly over the tops of mushrooms and along the ground. /end id]

The #discovery of henbane seeds stored within a hollowed-out animal bone within a Roman settlement excavated in the Netherlands seems to prove that people understood their beneficial properties as far back as the first-century AD.
Black henbane holds #medicinal and psychoactive properties. While it has been found in archaeological sites dating back to the Neolithic period, it has tended to be dismissed as a wild plant.
Its intentional storage at the #Dutch site is therefore a unique and revealing find.

Hyoscyamus Niger, is another botanical ally of witches, sciamans, diviners since ancient times.
• The human relationship with this plant is at least 8000 years old: the most ancient findings of an undetermined specie of henbane's seeds were from a Neolithic site in Farafra, Egypt, dated VII to VI millennium b.c.
• In Greek mythology it is said that the dead in Hades were crowned with Henbane, as they wandered beside the River Styx which separated them from the land of the living.
• Due to the high concentration of psychoactive substances, the plant was used to induce visions, for divinatory purposes and for spirit flight, especially if mixed with other baneful plants linked to Sorcery.

Interesting. So not used for its hallucinogenic or recreational properties, but as a medicine.

Romans Stored Henbane Seeds in Vial Made From an Animal Bone
“Archaeologists in the Netherlands have discovered a Roman settler’s stash of poisonous seeds, sealed in a hollowed-out animal bone 2,000 years ago.
The discovery is the first evidence that Romans in the Netherlands collected and stored seeds from the black henbane plant, a highly toxic member of the nightshade family. While the plant has long been notorious for its poisonous effects, it also has a reputation as a medicinal aid.”

I've always knew that Godzilla's real gender is mother/j
But 4 (3?) babies???
Congratulations to the couples
(Anytime if you want to drop some of these babus lore, please)
Oh yes, congrats!! :> I hope this makes some sense, btw none of these guys are from the same universe*
- Hen (Henbane) was an ordinary baby ape that was later caught by apex and was experimented with Gojira and Kong's dna, he's going through a metamorphosis where scales started appearing throughout his body, which tends to be really itchy for him. Then later rescued by Monarch after being considered "failed" by apex. He's a bit traumatized, but he's healing well.
- Elladon (Belladonna) is just a child from Mosura and Gojira, She was birthed by Mothra and seems to be the only non-traumatized baby in the lore (my recent doodles of her are, her when she's younger)
- Arecerbus, child of Ghidorah and Gojira. He was an experiment created to be the more stronger versions of his "father's" to destroy earth, but he broke out of containment. (didn't consider Goji and Ghid as his parents at first)
Heads:
Right - Lory (morning glory)
Left - Aster (aster flowers)
