Spark: I don’t ... I don’t ... I don’t feel good.
[stumbles]
Hesper: I know, I’m sorry darling.  It may not kill you, but it won’t be fun.  For which you have no one but yourself to blame.  I gave you your choice, but looks like we’ll be doing this the hard way instead. We have to make it believable, and we might as well get rid of those nasty paintings while we’re at it.

Spark: Why...why is it doing that?  I’ve never seen it do that.
Hesper: It doesn’t like me.  It knows, even if you don’t.
Spark: Know what?  Hesper, what is going on?!
Hesper: She won’t be coming, she never does.  I’m not sure if she even could, and she wouldn’t risk it.  Not for this, because as much as it might feel like it, it won’t kill you.

Hesper: May, would not have hesitated.  If the shoe was on the other foot, she would have gone in an instant.
Spark: You think I don’t know that?  I’ll do whatever I can to get her back, but I’m staying here with my daughter Hesper, and that’s final.
Hesper: May never would have turned her back on her mother.  She’d be ashamed of you for this.
Spark: Don’t talk about my mother like you know her.  She never would have wanted me to do this, never.  The idea that she would expect me to risk my life for hers --
Hesper: I thought you were better than this.

Hesper: I believe she’s taken your mother to a place called The Shattered Realm.
Spark: How do you know?
Hesper: It’s the only place they could have gone.  I know you’re aware now of the Seven Realms and the Great Divide.
Spark: My mother-in-law mentioned it in passing once while threatening me with a knife.  I’m not exactly up to speed.

Spark: Did you want a glass of water or something?  Hesper?
Hesper: I was just ... admiring your paintings.
Spark: They’re not mine they’re my great-grandmother’s.  She liked her weird self-portraits.
Hesper: Are you sure?

Spark: Then that’s her choice!  Look, you said she can’t die there right?
Hesper: That’s not the point --
Spark: Right now it kinda is though!  I love my mom, more than just about anyone.  I don’t...I don’t want to have to make this decision!  I want her to be sitting here with me right now, talking with us.  But I have my own family, I have an actual child I have to think about.  If I lose my mom...it’ll break my heart.  But I’m an adult, that’s...what happens.  Parents get old and they die.
Hesper: But your mother is fine!  She can’t get old and die, and if you would only come with me --
Spark: No!  I can deal with losing my mother, and I’ve got the rest of my supposedly very long life to figure out a way to get her back.  But my daughter is just a baby, she still needs me.

Spark: So let me see if I’ve got this straight.  Morning Star has my mom, and possibly also my grandmother, trapped in an alternate realm that nobody can get to unless they’ve been there before.  That they don’t know how to get out of, and are likely under some weird spell.  But you want to use me as a power-up bonus, to help you drag them back over to this realm, because you know where you’re going.
Hesper: That’s close enough.  I saw the woman May was with return to our realm later that day.  She’s not with them right now, which means this is our window of opportunity.
Spark: You said the journey is nearly impossible.  We’d be risking our lives to do this wouldn’t we?
Hesper: It’s very dangerous, yes.
Spark: Then why would you just volunteer to do this?  Why would you put your own life in jeopardy for my mom?

Hesper: Do you know how tired I am?  How long of a day I’ve had already?  This house is even working against me.  All of these damn paintings ... at least this proves she’s still alive.  Rooting herself in portraits so she can last as long as they do.  I’d say I’m surprised she never painted any of her heirs to offer them the same protection, but she always was selfish.  Just like you.
Spark: I can’t handle this right now, I’ve already got a headache --
Hesper: Her painting understands, see?

Hesper: Isn’t it enough that I care for you and your family very deeply, and I don’t want to see you put through any unnecessary harm.
Spark: Not for something like this it’s not.  I mean really, up until today I didn’t even know you’d ever spoken to May, but now you’re risking your neck for her?
Hesper: I have my reasons and I promise you that’s one of them.  But we don’t have time to dig into it right now, every minute we wait is another minute May slips further and further away from us.
Spark: I want to talk to Jack. I’m sure he’ll have a better plan, one that doesn’t involve us leaving this plane of existence.
