Clone’s Best Friend

“Cute dog!” the girl says. “What breed is he?”

“Uh,” blinks Kon. "Are you asking what breed Superdog is?"

“Uh, duh?”

Well. She’ll have to forgive him his stunned expression, ‘cause he doesn’t usually run into other dog walkers on this path. This is, of course, because “path” is used in the loosest sense, the one that connotates direction and not tread ground, and the “walk” bit is entirely inapplicable, with all of them currently flying one thousand feet above sea level.

“Cujo’s a rescue,” she continues, swinging her feet in the sky, “so we don’t know for sure, but my sister thinks part husky, part shar pei. Half-and-half, like me!”

Cujo is also, apparently, half green and half glowing. He wiggles happily in a play-bow. It’s very cute, except for the way he’s the size of a small house.

Krypto’s tough, though. He barks and chases his new friend through cloud cover. Gamely, Cujo flees. They frolic in the chilly condensation, occasionally poking a head out before diving back in, like a fox in a snowdrift.

Neither of them see anything surprising about this. It’s all good fun. And, well. Krypto’s always been a good judge of character.

Kon turns back to the girl and gives her a megawatt smile.

“He’s Kryptonian. Like me. But he looks like a white lab!”

i always feel bad when i see how the point of a lot of saiki's personality traits flew right over the heads of a lot of fans due to him being an unreliable narrator and a tsundere lol.. so a lot of things he says are immediately proved to be untrue and often just him putting up a front, but some people dont pick up on it..

like i see a lot of "haha saiki would never want to watch a romance movie" guys there is an entire chapter (170) dedicated to him being like "i much prefer mysteries to romance stories.." and then immediately becoming absolutely enamored with a romance story.. he was lying, guys, LMAO

less specific ones include:

"i hate children, they annoy me" *goes out of his way to help kids, comfort them, be kind to them, etc.*

"i only use my powers for self gain/my own convenience." "anyway my mama told me to never use my powers selfishly so i always use them to help people and i try my best not to use them for personal gain<3"

"those guys are so annoying, i would never hang out with them willingly." "yeah it took them about two sentences to convince me to go with them. their thoughts seemed like they really wanted me to go, so i did. i didnt want them to be upset. not that i care about them or anything."

(sorry i post about this kind of thing a lot, i just giggle a lot at how the entire manga is so easily misinterpreted and thousands of people have watched the show but didnt pick up on the main characters most defining character traits and frequent bits.. i think there needs to be a masterlist or something disproving all the extremely common misconceptions about saiki k lol)

Headcanon that Steve is a good cook but never uses the right tools. He taught himself to cook out of necessity and ended up loving it because it’s a mindless activity that also provides; he still gets a lot wrong. Here he is making Eddie and Wayne a full Thanksgiving dinner and he’s using an omelette spatula to scrape pumpkin pie filling out of the bowl. Even Eddie knows that’s wrong…but he can’t do anything but beam as he watches Steve, tongue out in concentration, humming a top 40 song, kitchen towel over his shoulder, making him and his uncle and three course meal.

Panel 1: They arrive back at Imogen’s homestead. Seen for the first time, the exterior of the farmhouse looks a bit dilapidated. There’s a large wraparound porch missing a few spindles. Outside is a large tree with a wooden swing. Laudna loves it immediately.

Laudna: Oh, Imogen! Your house!

Imogen: Yeah sorry, it’s a little run-down. It’s just my dad n’ me so it’s kinda hard --

Laudna: It’s beautiful!! I love the gable roofs. And you have a swing!

Imogen: You know what’s funny, when I was a li’l kid this was the house on the edge of town that was rumored to be haunted. You know, like every town has. Kids would dare each other to run up and touch the porch railing. And now we’re livin’ here.

Laudna: And is it haunted?

Imogen: Sure. Just not by ghosts.

Panel 2: In the kitchen, the two of them prepare dinner together, including an apple tart, albeit one more rustic-looking than described in Laudna’s memory. (Her own apple is on the table, carefully wrapped in her scarf.) Imogen’s father returns. Laudna withdraws from him nervously.

Relvin: Evenin’, Genny.

His Thoughts: WHAT IN ALL THE NINE HELLS--

Imogen: (pointedly) Daddy, this is Laudna. She’s new in town. I invited her to stay for dinner, that all right?

Relvin: (warily) . . . Sure. Glad to see you’re makin’ friends.

His Thoughts: took a damn year off my life there coulda sworn there was a dead woman standin’ in my kitchen makin’ soup

Panel 3: The three of them sit down for dinner together: pumpkin soup and crusty bread with the apple tart in pride of place at the table. Laudna and Imogen are enjoying themselves although Imogen’s father is still regarding Laudna with suspicion.

Relvin: gods I didn’t mean that literal but suppose it is, she spends a lot of time in that graveyard doing gods only know what did she MAKE a friend is this necromancy? This what they call necromancy? What has that fool girl gotten herself into now? Sent her out to get carrots and she comes back with a walkin’ corpse Liliana help me I am not prepared for this.

This year gardening has been kind of a disaster, so I haven't been posting any updates (all sad news). I actually haven't been to the garden in more than a week, because I've been foraging chestnuts and it took all of my energy. So I completely ran out of food, and I've been too tired to go get some, so this culminated in me forcing myself to go today, in kind of trepidation because I felt like the garden is almost dead, unsupervised and abandoned, but then I found the most amazing harvest in this entire year.

Here's a picture:

I am so relieved because this is so much food! I got a big bag of chives, multiple zuchinnis, a butternut and a hokkaido squash, okra, for the first time ever I have okra! Little bits of tomatoes (they did so bad this year), curly kale, a full bag of fresh basil (I'm making a pesto immediately), a big container of dried beans and a full plate of peppers!

I also picked up these huge sunflowers because the plant fell over due to the storm yesterday, this way I can have it as cut flowers.

Gardening is just great even when the year isn't great, some things just come trough, even in complete neglect and abandonment, all this was just waiting for me to pick up. Does anyone know any good okra recipes? Now that I got them I have no idea what to do with them, I do love looking at them though, and people asking me 'what is this weird pepper thing'.
