okay so I just finished watching Hilda's 3rd season and then I remembered something from the graphic novels and I HAD to check this...
(spoilers under the cut)
Tumblr media
IT WAS FORESHADOWED!
I mean Johanna declines it because the hill "gives her the creeps" which is somehow logical due to her past trauma with the fairy mount in Tofoten, even though she doesn't actually remember everything
(just like she somehow remembers the forest and the lake in episode 6).

Fuck it *comics your Lauren*
I finally read the comics AND THEY WERE AMAZING!!! And god they got me so inspired! The art is so beautiful, and I really want to study the various styles. The Stone Forest - Mountain King style is definitely my favourite but I wanna study the earlier ones too. So of course my first step into doing so was to draw my girl in the style

Hilda And The Troll by Luke Pearson
I had no idea I owned this. This was probably a gift from my godfather (aka the man who got me into graphic novels in the first place), and for some reason it got misplaced with old books of my childhood and I never ended up reading it. This is a very short graphic novel, I don't think it's even 50 pages long, so we can consider this a short graphic story, and it was lovely. It's all about Hilda a girl who lives in nature with her mom and finds a rock that looks like a troll and might be a troll. It was really sweet and I liked the illustrations, but I wished the story was a bit longer. It's just a couple of scenes which is a great way to present a character and a concepts, but hte world Hilda lives in seems really nice and I would have loved to learn more. This could be an amazing option for people who want to try reading graphic novels but aren't sure they will like the format, it could also be a lovely idea to get kids who don't particularly enjoy reading into the hobby (and I speak as someone who hated reading when I was younger).
I read this book for the short story prompt of the 2023 genre bingo even though this is not your typical short story.

In a recent advertisement from Penguin Random House (PRH), who was obtained by an undisclosed digital media insider; including one internet sleuth YouTuber, and also the online media insider individual in Los Angeles, California named ReyGGTV (whose real name as Randy Garita), it appears that the American streaming service called Netflix may have been release the show by Fall 2023 from a screengrab image, which was not independently verified to Radyo Bandera.

Additionally, the last opening intro for Season 3 was sought-after in the city of Trolberg and reportedly seen on Facebook's cover photo (which is owned by Meta Platforms Inc.).
In addition to the Final Season, 3 new graphic novels have also been obtained by Randy himself entitled "Laughing Merman", "Faratok Tree" & "Fairy Village", which expected to be released in November 2023. These novels are part of 'Hilda: The Series' provided by a graphic novel publisher Flying Eye Books (FEB).

Before the independent cartoon show on Netflix, there was a novel called 'Aubépine' & 'Aster', which served as a source of inspiration for Hilda. Show Creator named Luke Pearson, along with the animated production companies Silvergate Media and Mercury Filmworks, have granted to secure the streaming rights through Netflix in the United States of America (U.S.A.). The 3rd season of Hilda consists of 13 episodes, each with a runtime of 22 minutes. The actual release date might later change, but it is expected to coincide with the Christmas season or early Q1 2024.
Some reliable sources and insider individuals told exclusively to Radyo Bandera that the British-Canadian animated series on Netflix is fully legitimate, unless there is an accidental statement by default. Fans of the show are so alarming, because of a release date have already been leaked out Friday night (September 1st, 2023).

Regardless onto this, streaming fans are excited to explore Hilda's adventurous world one last time in Trolberg City, Scandinavia as the 3rd season approaches, leading after a new movie released of The Mountain King late-last December 2021 as a series follow-up -- despite for Season 3 release date is worth the wait before the Holiday season starts.
The new and final 3rd Season of Hilda streams this Fall 2023 at 12 MIDNIGHT (Pacific local time), only on Netflix.

#6 for the "top threes" asks?
6: Top 3 friendships between characters
Honestly? I will never not love the Hilda trio. They are so precious, and each of them remind me of a small part of myself!
I also really love the Poptropica trio in the graphic novels. They work out perfectly with each other, especially Oliver. A sharp contrast to Mya, but still similar to her, as well as being some comedic relief with Jorge. I think the aspect of Mya having leadership pressure is pretty underrated.
Lastly, Kurt Kelly and Ram Sweeney. Two best buds! They remind me of two boys I went to school with, and I have the same views on them. Yeah, they're perves and I hate it, but I do really love their friendship!

Now that the last season of Hilda is out, I thought I'd share some of my Hilda things from over the years. From the second graphic novel onwards I was living with Luke, so I feel like I've had a front row seat to the creation of everything Hilda. Many times I would sit with Luke and help talk through story points and idea with him. During the creation of season three, my main contribution was looking after our toddler and twin babies during lockdown so that Luke could work! (And providing the voice of The Pooka of course).
In the above picture you will see my crochet Tontu, and the little Tontu I made as a practice run for making that. That Tontu design which was my own, ended up being Frida's Nisse.
Enjoy a picture of my mum, who inspired the design of the Sparrow Scout Leader, and my sisters dog Poppy (parsons jack russel) who didn't inspire Twig but undoubtedly modelled once or twice for a pose.
Sad to see the end of the Hilda TV show, but glad they got three seasons and very proud of everyone who worked on it!

Commemorating the conclusion of Hilda: The Animated Series Adventures Never Truly End // dm29.deviantart.com
Hilda stands as one of the most visually-appealing animated series I've had the pleasure of enjoying. The telling of the adventures of a fearless, sometimes foolhardy girl, the world of Trolberg and the stories it encompasses give the audience highs and lows, with plenty of thrills and spills, via an art style by creator Luke Pearson, brought to life by Mercury Filmworks, putting together a visual spectacle that oozes imagination, wonder and awe.
Tumblr media
It is thankfully, and woefully, one of the animated series that Netflix has seen through to the end, with three seasons and a movie-length special, as well as a great collection of tie-in books, and graphic novels, of which the series was adapted from.
Its conclusion today brings about a sense of bittersweetness for a show that will remain one that I highly recommend.
Tumblr media
Thank you, @luke-pearson, for giving us something as memorable as it was special.

Okay, so I've been thinking. Season 3 gave us so much in terms of magic and the origins of magic, specifically, which got me thinking-- it's stated that all magic originally came from Fairy Country, and, following that, all magical creatures came from there, which should include things like trolls and nisse, right? But young Johanna states that the sun never truly sets in Fairy Country, which wouldn't work for trolls, unless they were constantly in hiding. However, that wouldn't really seem good evolution-wise. Seems kind of weird, right? And nisse are another matter-- they are spirits, which suggests Wild Magic, but are primarily found in domestic spaces, thus suggesting a use of at least some Domestic Magic. Last I checked, Fairy Country doesn't seem to really have any houses (save for Phinium and Lydia's) or uses for house spirits. So what's the common denominator for two species that don't seem to have any common threads? And why do trolls and nisse seem to stand out in particular for being specifically not geared to Fairy Country, evolution notwithstanding?
One word: giants.
What about them? you ask. For that, we need to turn to the original Hilda: Hildafolk's Hilda and the Midnight Giant.
In the back of the graphic novel, we are presented with a visual guide to the mountain giants, which you can find me yelling about here. In that guide, we get this guy:
Tumblr media
Who is named Björg, and, according to the book, was "the outcast of the group. He was fearful of the other giants and not well liked. When the others left he went into hiding. Trolls and nisse are descended from him." So this guy is the common link, giving trolls and nisse a common ancestor and a reason for why they may be the outliers in terms of magical beings. The mountain giants are now show canon, per the Faratok Tree episode, and seem to be lifted nearly 1:1 from the book.
Tumblr media
From left to right are Halldór, Sigmund, Einarr, Valfreyja (who actually has a slightly different design from the graphic novels), Gertl, Aldinn, Bliða, Heimskr, and Jaðarrok. This basically confirms that all the giants listed in the graphic novel exist in the show, which means that we can extrapolate that Björg also exists, and seems to be in hiding, as the blurb suggests. I'm also thinking, based on the fact that the giants were on Earth really before humans were, that they left Fairy Country thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands, of years ago, shaping Earth to their liking through the years. This may mean that, while the other giants stayed together, Björg went off and did his own thing, which, I'm thinking, perhaps may have been creating the species that would go on to split and become trolls and nisse respectively.
With the two species being so well-suited to Earth, my guess, taking all of this, is that they were created and Earth and were never native to Fairy Country-- they've got ancestral roots there, but it was never their true home. That's how we get a species that can only live in the dark, and evolved to do so, and a species that has a symbiotic relationships with humans and their houses, which create Nowhere Space.
Now, to go further, my guess is that nisse evolved into their own species later than trolls, as trolls were likely present before humans. The nisse branched off as their own species likely when a particularly small, particularly hairy, and particularly magical troll managed to get into the newly-created Nowhere Space and made a home out of it, which then became the nisse as we know them now.
Anyway. This magic system. I've got Thoughts™️

Well, today's the day! Hilda comes to an end. I figured now more than ever is time I make this post on just…how I feel about this incredible show ending and why it means so much to me…and why I'm grateful to Luke Pearson and the whole Hilda team. So, long post below ahead!
I found Hilda in 2018 via a post on the Gravity Falls sub of the trailer. Right from the start, something felt special about this show. And like many, I tuned in to watch it when it began. I didn't know what would be in store as I began it, but I was excited. This was at the end of the summer as GF hype for Lost Legends and the box set died down. So, getting in to a new show seemed like the best idea. It took literally hearing that theme song for me to instantly fall in love with Hilda. There was something so familiar and wholesome just bursting out of that opening. It was a feeling hard to really explain. By episode 3 and specifically the ending of it…I knew I had my next favourite show.
Everything about Hilda just felt perfect to me. The animation was incredible, Hilda as a character was enjoyable and full of life, the story felt fresh even if the core concept seemed familiar and all in all, I just loved the atmosphere this show radiated. It also made me so happy to see Canada have a part in Hilda. The Canadian animation industry is one I love given how much of a part of my childhood it was. And so to see it have a hand in this incredible show just made me so happy. Mercury Filmworks did amazing with Hilda. And I think that's how I began to understand why Hilda feels so familiar; it reminds me of those old cartoons I grew up on. Those Canadian Nelvana shows that were so wholesome & yet so fun to watch…while also not afraid to be bold. Hilda was that kind of show for a new generation!
Tumblr media
I also didn't shy away from poking some nods to Gravity Falls. It was a great way to help spread Hilda's existence to more people and to this day I get messages from people who tell me they found Hilda because of my tweets, or videos or more. That means the world and I am grateful to have helped you discover this show. And like any show I fell in love with, I also bough the books and other merch for it. The Hilda graphic novels were amazing to read and see how the show grew from them, the figurine still just fits in my shelf, and the tie in books and more are always fun to collect. I'll miss it. Not to mention the memes…of which I made a few. The Hilda fandom is insane, yet so funny. Like all fandoms it has its ups and downs but I've met some amazing people because of Hilda and some who I remain great friends with. You know who you are <3
Hilda's conclusion means that the last of my holy trinity shows is now over…and with that, the end of an era. Truthfully, IDK what my plans are post Hilda. It was the last show still airing that I truly was 110% passionate about. That's not to say there aren't other shows, But there will never be another Hilda for me. Hilda is a show unlike any other I have seen. Yeah, perhaps it's not the most popular or the biggest or the best cartoon out there. But OMG, no other show since ever made me as happy and passionate as Hilda did. It's one of a kind!
Tumblr media
I said in 2018 that Hilda is everything out of a cartoon that I wanted. I still believe that.
No cartoon is perfect and our definition of perfection is our own. If you ask me though…Hilda is the closest cartoon I have ever come across to my definition of perfection!
With that, while I am heartbroken to bid farewell to Hilda…I am happy I got to experience this show as it aired. I'm grateful for all the memories I made in the 5 years I had it. I'm grateful for the adventure and above all else…I'm grateful to have seen Hilda! ❤️
