Plastic Skies - Models 9 and 10: Sk 16 and Fairey Swordfish
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s a prop plane double feature WWII spectacular!
Due to a number of personal circumstances, 2023 hasn’t started off quite like I would’ve wanted, and since most of those circumstances involved money, I wasn’t able to jump right away from the F-16 Falcon I bought in February to the next project I had in mind. But thanks to a kind act of generosity, I was able to not only keep my meager hobbyist skills sharp, but also breathe new life into some old models.
Now, here’s the thing: I’m not really into old school propeller planes right now. I kinda used to, I remember building a very neat P-51 Mustang when I was a kid, but thanks to Ace Combat I’m far more interested in jet planes at the moment. So no Spitfires or Hurricanes or Messers for me, no thanks. I’m good for now. However, about a week after finishing the F-16, I received in the mail a care package from an overseas friend who for the last couple of years has made it a tradition to send me a box of old toys, comics and other random stuff. Of course, our postal service usually delivers them around March, so it’s a bit of a late present, but a very welcome one nonetheless. Especially this year.
Tumblr media
Very thoughtfully, my friend had packed in not one, but two whole model kits in the box: a Swedish Sk 16 from Heller and a British Fairey Swordfish from Airfix, both in 1/72 scale. A quick search on Scalemates confirmed that both models were from the 80s, and the Swordfish’s mold was from 1958, which I naturally found thrilling. There’s something very fun about working on something older than you are. Plus, it turned out that these models had a backstory to them: my friend had bought them with his family at a second hand market, so second hand that the Sk 16 had already been started. He never got around to actually putting them together though, and despite his family’s repeated requests over the years to just throw them out, they remained there, safely boxed up.
Tumblr media
(In this case, the cockpit and fuselage had been glued and the black stripes already painted, albeit a bit haphazardly)
To be honest, I didn’t know much about both planes, which only added to the excitement. The Sk 16 turned out to be a Swedish version of the very popular American T-6 Texan, a plane that also flew in my own country’s air force. And the Swordfish is better known as the English naval biplane that helped sink the Bismarck (and the star of Garth Ennis and PJ Holden’s graphic novel THE STRINGBAGS). So these were, by all accounts, very fun planes already. And I was ready to have some fun with them.
Tumblr media
Above all else, I think my favorite part of doing old planes is all the exposed engines and exhaust tubes. I’ve mentioned before how much I adore metallic paints, and I immediately realized that this would be a great chance to break them out. And of course, having both planes have movable propellers, which I also love. I know a lot of hobbyst like to build models as a snapshot of a singular moment in time, but I prefer them to be toys, things to play with a little, so any “play-features” like this immediately makes my heart soar. Look at that little prop spin. Weeeeeee!
Tumblr media
The Sk 16 was a very fun build. The hardest part had already been made, after all, and the rest came together very quickly and very snugly. Not having any weapons also helped a lot, and I appreciated having an excuse to use the box of yellow paint I’d bought months ago. The canopy was a pain, and I fear I’ll never be able to have the pulse or right tools to get them looking just right, but I still see at least some improvement over previous attempts.
Tumblr media
The other thing that was shockingly comfortable and even fun were the decals. Given the model’s age and remembering my bad experience with the Berkut, I was terrified that the decals would dissolve into water the moment I even thought about dunking them. To my surprise and joy, not only did they not break, they were also extremely easy to place. I’m rarely fully satisfied with my decal placing skills, but this one is probably the best I’ve done so far.
Tumblr media
The whole thing was done over a weekend, and once I was done, all that was left was deciding whether I wanted to age it up or not. I consulted with the friend who’d sent me the model, who decided for me: this old plane had to look old.
Tumblr media
Fortunately, my washes worked like a charm on this little wasp, which gained a couple of decades overnight. I showed it to my friend, who gave it his seal of approval and also mentioned the thing about his parents asking him to throw the models out if he was never gonna build them. So of course, I did what any person would do in that situation: asked him if he wanted an online album of all the finished model pics I had so he could show his parents. And of course, he said yes.
Tumblr media
That’s kind of the thing: as much as I enjoy building models for myself, every time I finish one I find myself burning with the desire to show it off to everyone. I know that’s nothing unusual, but the thing is, I’ve rarely had the chance to show off something I made to other people. Everything I do is either prose, which is not exactly a thing people can just take a quick look at, or comic book scripts, which have the same problem. Even when they’re beautifully turned into actual comics by some incredibly talented folks, it’s still hard to whip ‘em out and go “This. I made this.”
Now, I have a folder in my cellphone full of finished model pictures to pull out like a proud dad just in case anyone asks. And even if they don’t ask, odds are they’ll see at least one.
Tumblr media
(friend’s parents did indeed see the pictures and were reportedly surprised to see those old things looking so good. Which is another thing I’ve found very pleasant about model kit making: with the right tools and the right application, even an inexperienced newbie can make a 40 year old kit look impressive)
Tumblr media
Pretty much the day after I finished the Sk, I started work on the Swordfish. This one didn’t have any work done other than some pieces having been awkwarldy separated from their sprues, but the plastic felt nice and everything seemed solid enough. Plus, for the first time since I started, I had to paint not just one, but two tiny little plastic men:
Tumblr media
It... didn’t go terribly well, mostly because I refused to actually go out and buy new paints for them, but with apologies to my friend, it’s easier to cheap out on things when you weren’t the one who bought the model. Apart from that, I also decided to replace the goose egg blue that the kit’s instructions suggested for the undercarriage with the weird light grey I’d bought and used for the bottom of the F-16, since I still wanted to try it out. That turned out to be... not a mistake, per se, but it didn’t do me any favors.
Tumblr media
As it turns out, it’s *REALLY* hard to get something to stick to this kind of paint, and there was a lot of sticking to be done with these two wings. Even worse, some of it was done practically blind, since fitting the struts and bars into their holes turned out to be harder than it looked. Looking back, I probably should’ve just glued the whole thing together first and painted it later, but I figured getting the paints in first would be better than having to sneak tiny brushes into hidden crevices.
Tumblr media
Particularly troubling were the bars right in front of the pilot, seen here hovering like a full inch above where they should be. Not ideal at all. In the end, I had to resort to far more glue than I wanted and holding everything in place as best I could until it dried. The results look decent enough from an angle...
Tumblr media
... annnd then you look at it from the front.
Tumblr media
Ouch. Of course, I also skimped on using wires and stuff, but I was already getting a bit peeved at this old stringbag. On the other hand, painting the grey camo was an unexpected delight. All the paints worked well with each other, and the end result was pretty lovely, if not exactly historically accurate.
Tumblr media
Soon enough, all that was left were the decals, and here I ran into a different problem: yellowing. Although there was also a bit of that in the Sk 16, the plane being bright yellow helped hide a lot of it. No such luck here. I tried leaving them out in the sun inside a plastic bag, which the internet said was the cure for yellowing, but they also warned me it would take a few weeks or even a month depending on how much direct sunlight they were getting. Which in my apartment is precious few. After two days, I caved in and said fuck it. Yellowed decals it is.
Tumblr media
I’m not proud of what I did, but the odds are pretty good that I’d still be waiting if I hadn’t. Once everything was ready and varnished, I broke out the washes again, only this time I didn’t go for the full Sludge Treatment. Instead, I focused only on the details, the flaps and some other areas. I could lie and say it was to give it a cleaner look, but in all honesty, I was just kinda tired of it by now and didn’t want to deal with having to clean the sludge.
Tumblr media
The results are a bit hard to tell, since the flaps were already pretty visible, but it was still a nice relief to have it all done and looking decent enough for another online album. The response I got from friend’s parents was similar, and similarly, it made me feel quite happy with myself.
Tumblr media
Overall, I enjoyed this little detour into prop planes. But above all, I think what I enjoyed the most was the idea that doing model kits is turning into My Thing. That people are starting to pay attention, and that in some near future, the answer to “What should we give Judge for his birthday/christmas/wedding gift?” will always inevitably be a little plastic plane to build. Not just because it’s fun and because it opens the door to all kinds of surprises, but also because I think there’s something very unique about being able to tell someone “Hey, thanks for the gift, wanna see what I did with it?”. It’s a rare kind of connection, a back and forth of thoughtfulness and creation, and I’d like to do more of it.
But first... it was time. Time to finally knuckle up, shake that bottle of light gray paint and face my personal final boss of model kits. I just didn’t expect it would happen during one of the worst weeks of the year so far.

I will join you in purple hair Mother Nature is Flo/OG!Mother Nature’s daughter brain rot
Yes!!! Come join, it's great, the brainrot is constant.
I have a WIP that deals with how I see them and Mother Nature 3.0 in more-ish details but I have to share a few bullet points that I have been brainrotting away.
Her name is Claret, named after dearest one Claire and claret wine. Her middle name is Crystal because, in Mother Nature OG (Eve)'s eyes like ice crystals? And Florida being like yes, ice crystals. of a very specific type of ice.
Florida is very concerned about her being a nerd. He'll accept her and love her no matter what but the idea of her being a nerd and running numbers or reading for fun or critically thinking keeps him awake at night
Mother Nature 3.0, Claret from here on out, is not a nerd. I headcanon her as being still in high school but the end of it- junior or senior and her teachers up at Metaphysical High School or whatever, can attest that she is not a nerd. She read Catcher in the Rye with the rest of the class but even after finishing the whole book and listening in to class discussions; Claret still wanted to know when Holden was going to a bakery. She was very glad that baseball was at least present in it.
Her specialty is the wind, she associates hurricanes with her parents and their *The Vampire Diaries voice* epic love story so she has a soft spot for them. While she knows at this point, that her parents are toxic to each other, she still makes her hurricanes with extra care in honor of them. she also loves making tornados and nor'easter. Anything that can cause wind speed and chaos.
it was her idea to interrupt the freedom states meeting with wind. Florida brought her along because it was his day to have her but she came up with the wind all on her own. She just liked seeing them annoyed.

Tina Turner, Magnetic Singer of Explosive Power, Is Dead at 83
Hailed in the 1960s for her dynamic performances with her first husband, Ike, she became a sensation as a recording artist, often echoing her personal struggles in her songs.
Tumblr media
By William Grimes Published May 24, 2023 Updated May 25, 2023
Tina Turner, the earthshaking singer whose rasping vocals, sexual magnetism and explosive energy made her an unforgettable live performer and one of the most successful recording artists of all time, died on Wednesday at her home in Küsnacht, Switzerland, near Zurich. She was 83.
Her publicist Bernard Doherty announced the death in a statement but did not provide the cause. She had a stroke in recent years and was known to be struggling with a kidney disease and other illnesses.
Ms. Turner embarked on her half-century career in the late 1950s, while still attending high school, when she began singing with Ike Turner and his band, the Kings of Rhythm. At first she was only an occasional performer, but she soon became the group’s star attraction — and Mr. Turner’s wife. With her potent, bluesy voice and her frenetic dancing style, she made an instant impression.
Their ensemble, soon renamed the Ike and Tina Turner Revue, became one of the premier touring soul acts in Black venues on the so-called chitlin’ circuit. After the Rolling Stones invited the group to open for them, first on a British tour in 1966 and then on an American tour in 1969, white listeners in both countries began paying attention.
Ms. Turner, who insisted on adding rock songs by the Beatles and the Stones to her repertoire, reached an enormous new audience, giving the Ike and Tina Turner Revue its first Top 10 hit with her version of the Creedence Clearwater Revival song “Proud Mary” in 1971 and a Grammy Award for best R&B vocal performance by a group.
“In the context of today’s show business, Tina Turner must be the most sensational professional onstage,” Ralph J. Gleason, the influential jazz and pop critic for The San Francisco Chronicle, wrote in a review of a Rolling Stones concert in Oakland in November 1969. “She comes on like a hurricane. She dances and twists and shakes and sings and the impact is instant and total.”
But if the Ike and Tina Turner Revue was a success, the Ike and Tina Turner marriage was not. Mr. Turner was abusive. After she escaped the marriage in her 30s, her career faltered. But her solo album “Private Dancer,” released in 1984, returned her to the spotlight — and lifted her into the pop stratosphere.
Working with younger songwriters, and backed by a smooth, synthesized sound that provided a lustrous wrapping for her raw, urgent vocals, she delivered three mammoth hits: the title song, written by Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits; “Better Be Good to Me”; and “What’s Love Got to Do With It.”
Referring to its “innovative fusion of old-fashioned soul singing and new wave synth-pop,” Stephen Holden, in a review for The New York Times, called the album “a landmark not only in the career of the 45-year-old singer, who has been recording since the late 1950s, but in the evolution of pop-soul music itself.”
At the 1985 Grammy Awards, “What’s Love Got to Do With It” won three awards, for record of the year, song of the year and best female pop vocal performance, and “Better Be Good To Me” won for best female rock vocal performance.
The album went on to sell five million copies and ignite a touring career that established Ms. Turner as a worldwide phenomenon. In 1988 she appeared before about 180,000 people at the Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, breaking a record for the largest paying audience for a solo artist. After her “Twenty Four Seven” tour in 2000 sold more than $100 million in tickets, Guinness World Records announced that she had sold more concert tickets than any other solo performer in history.
‘Well-to-Do Farmers’
Tina Turner was born Anna Mae Bullock on Nov. 26, 1939, in Brownsville, Tenn., northeast of Memphis, and spent her earliest years on the Poindexter farm in Nutbush, an unincorporated area nearby, where she sang in the choir of the Spring Hill Baptist Church.
Her father, Floyd, known by his middle name, Richard, worked as the farm’s overseer — “We were well-to-do farmers,” Ms. Turner told Rolling Stone in 1986 — and had a difficult relationship with his wife, Zelma (Currie) Bullock.
Her parents left Anna and her older sister, Alline, with relatives when they went to work at a military installation in Knoxville during World War II. The family reunited after the war, but Zelma left her husband a few years later and Anna lived with her grandmother in Brownsville.
After rejoining her mother in St. Louis, she attended Sumner High School there. She and Alline began frequenting the Manhattan Club in East St. Louis, Ill., to hear Ike Turner and the Kings of Rhythm.
“I wanted to get up there and sing sooooo bad,” Ms. Turner recalled in “I, Tina: My Life Story” (1986), written with Kurt Loder. “But that took an entire year.”
One night, during one of the band’s breaks, the drummer, Eugene Washington, handed her the microphone and she began singing the B.B. King song “You Know I Love You,” which Mr. Turner had produced. “When Ike heard me, he said, ‘My God!’” she told People magazine in 1981. “He couldn’t believe that voice coming out of this frail little body.”
In his book “Takin’ Back My Name: The Confessions of Ike Turner” (1999), written with Nigel Cawthorne, Mr. Turner wrote: “I’d be writing songs with Little Richard in mind, but I didn’t have no Little Richard to sing them, so Tina was my Little Richard. Listen closely to Tina and who do you hear? Little Richard singing in the female voice.”
Mr. Turner used her as a backup singer, billed as Little Ann, on his 1958 record “Boxtop.” When Art Lassiter, the group’s lead singer, failed to show up for the recording of “A Fool in Love,” she stepped in. The record was a hit, reaching No. 2 on the Billboard R&B chart and No. 27 on the pop chart.
Mr. Turner gave his protégée — who by now was also his romantic partner — a new name, Tina, inspired by the television character Sheena, Queen of the Jungle. And he renamed the group the Ike and Tina Turner Revue.
It was a dynamic, disciplined ensemble second only to the James Brown Revue, but until “Proud Mary,” it never achieved significant crossover success. Up to that point it had only one single in the pop Top 20 in the United States, “It’s Gonna Work Out Fine” in 1961. The group did generate several hits on the R&B charts, notably “I Idolize You,” “It’s Gonna Work Out Fine” and “Tra La La La La,” but most of its income came from a relentless touring schedule.
Ms. Turner’s relationship with Mr. Turner, whom she married in 1962 on a quick trip to Tijuana, Mexico, was turbulent. He was dictatorial, violent at times and, in the 1970s, hopelessly addicted to cocaine. She left him in 1976, with 36 cents and a Mobil gasoline card in her pocket, and divorced him two years later. He died of a cocaine overdose in 2007.
“When I left, I was living a life of death,” she told People in 1981. “I didn’t exist. I didn’t fear him killing me when I left, because I was already dead. When I walked out, I didn’t look back.”
Her marriage provided much of the material for the 1993 film “What’s Love Got to Do With It,” with Angela Bassett and Laurence Fishburne in the lead roles. Ms. Turner rerecorded some of her hits, and a new song, “I Don’t Wanna Fight,” for the film, but otherwise declined to participate. “Why would I want to see Ike Turner beat me up again?” she said at the time.
A Second Career
In 1966, the record producer Phil Spector, after hearing the Ike and Tina Turner Revue at the Galaxy Club in Los Angeles, offered $20,000 to produce their next song, on condition that Mr. Turner stay away from the studio. The result, “River Deep, Mountain High,” is often regarded as the high-water mark of Mr. Spector’s patented “wall of sound.” It failed in the United States, barely reaching the Top 100, but it was a big hit in Britain, where it marked the beginning of a second career for Ms. Turner.
“I loved that song,” she wrote in her 1986 memoir. “Because for the first time in my life, it wasn’t just R&B — it had structure, it had a melody.” She added: “I was a singer, and I knew I could do other things; I just never got the opportunity. ‘River Deep’ showed people what I had in me.”
After she walked out on her marriage, encumbered with debt, Ms. Turner struggled to build a solo career, appearing in ill-conceived cabaret acts, before signing with Roger Davies, the manager of Olivia Newton-John, in 1979. Guided by Mr. Davies, she returned to the gritty, hard-rocking style that had made her a crossover star and would propel her through the coming decades as one of the most durable performers on the concert stage.
Her fellow artists took notice. In 1982, Martyn Ware and Ian Craig Marsh, of the band and production company known as the British Electric Foundation, recruited her to record the Temptations’ 1970 hit “Ball of Confusion” for an album of soul and rock covers backed by synthesizers. Its success led to a second collaboration, a remake of Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together.” A surprise hit in the United States and Britain, it was the turning point that led to “Private Dancer.”
Ms. Turner followed the runaway success of “Private Dancer” with two more hit albums: “Break Every Rule” (1986) and “Foreign Affair” (1989), which contained the hit single “The Best.”
She made an impact onscreen as well. Ten years after she solidified her persona as a rock ’n’ roller with a riveting performance as the Acid Queen in Ken Russell’s film version of “Tommy,” the Who’s rock opera, she drew praise for her performance as Aunty Entity, the iron-fisted ruler of postapocalyptic Bartertown, in “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome” in 1985.
That film also provided her with two more hit singles, “We Don’t Need Another Hero (Thunderdome)” and “One of the Living,” which was named the best female rock vocal performance at the Grammys in 1986.
In 1991 she and Mr. Turner, in prison at the time for cocaine possession, were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. (She was inducted again as a solo artist in 2021.) She received a Kennedy Center Honor in 2005 and a Grammy lifetime achievement award in 2018.
In 1985 she began a relationship with the German music executive Erwin Bach, whom she married in 2013 after moving with him to Küsnacht and becoming a Swiss citizen. He survives her. Ron, her only child with Mr. Turner, died of colon cancer complications in 2022. Another son, Craig, from her relationship with Raymond Hill, the saxophone player for the Kings of Rhythm, died by suicide in 2018. Her sister, Alline Bullock, died in 2010. Ms. Turner raised two children of Mr. Turner’s, Ike Jr. and Michael.
Complete information on her survivors was not immediately available.
After releasing the album “Twenty Four Seven” in 1999, at 60 and touring to promote it, Ms. Turner announced her retirement. It did not last. In 2008, after performing with Beyoncé at the Grammy Awards, she embarked on an international tour marking her 50th year in the music business.
She announced her retirement again a few years later, but she remained active in other ways. In 2018, she published her second memoir, “My Love Story.”
She and Mr. Bach were executive producers of “Tina: The Tina Turner Musical,” a stage show based on her life and incorporating many of her hits, which opened in London in 2018 and in Hamburg and on Broadway in 2019; Ms. Turner worked with the show’s choreographer and shared memories with its writers.
While reviews were mixed, the musical earned 12 Tony Award nominations; Adrienne Warren, who starred as Ms. Turner, won the award for best actress in a leading role. “In a performance that is part possession, part workout and part wig,” Jesse Green wrote in a review for The Times, “Adrienne Warren rocks the rafters and dissolves your doubts about anyone daring to step into the diva’s high heels.”
The show closed after four months because of the pandemic lockdown, reopening in October 2021 before closing again a year later and going on the road. There is currently a production touring the U.S., as well as productions in Stuttgart, Germany; Sydney, Australia; and London.
Through it all, Ms. Turner’s music endured.
“My music doesn’t sound dated; it’s still standing strong,” she told The Daily Mail in 2008. “Like me.”
A correction was made on May 24, 2023:
An earlier version of this obituary misstated at one point where Ms. Turner attended high school. As correctly noted elsewhere, it was St. Louis — not East St. Louis, Ill.
A correction was made on May 25, 2023:
Because of an editing error, an earlier version of this obituary misstated the current number of productions of “Tina: The Tina Turner Musical.” In addition to the one touring the United States and the one in London, there are productions in Stuttgart, Germany, and Sydney, Australia.

Spoiler alert: solitaire
I finished reading it and i don't really have anyone to talk about it so here I'll be posting my rambling and it's gonna be a MAJOR SPOILER!
Just in case you don't accidentally read next paragraph here are some scenes of tori spring in heartstopper ꒰⑅ᵕ༚ᵕ꒱˖♡
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Probably sipping diet lemonade? It's definitely not tea. She HATES TEA. (So do I, hey but no coming at me).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Backhanded compliment, classic siblings :)
I think it's enough?
So i finished reading solitaire and OH MY GOD it's like i have taken a roller coaster ride, no literally! Like how on a roller coaster you know that it's gonna be a hell of a ride! But you're still nervous, a bit scared, excited, it's like a serotonin and adrenaline boost! It was exactly the same with this book. The story line is just out there, it's kinda predictable and if you've read radio silence then you'll get the hints but it still keeps you on edge, makes you nervous and you can't just stop!!! It's so emotionally heavy even though tori kept her emotions in bag like for most part of it, but in part two it gets like a hurricane of stuff! I love it! I may or may not have cried a bit, not because of pity towards like anyone but because of the whole thing it just takes your emotions with you and you experience them, strangely you don't explicitly judge any character, maybe a tiny bit in end but i was already so exhausted by all the stuff that all I could do was this 🤦 I LOVE TORI SPRING, no strong feeling with holden but i still waited for him to make an entry! It's like tori springs into action whenever he enters the frame (got the pun?! Eh? Sorry) either willingly or not willingly, it's still there. And Lucas, i understand you? But i do condemn his actions. Like bro WTF. And Evelyn you're dumb!! Becky you're- you're- yeah. And it's so cute how tori behaves and thinks of her siblings. It's like tori has immense patience for ollie and immense respect and kindness for Charlie. I kinda don't understand her mother's character though...like I'm neutral about her. And the storyline I'm just speechless, i seriously can't talk about it it's so much! What i absolutely love is understanding the timeline of events with respect to heartstopper and radio silence like it's like a puzzle pieces being put together, gives you a sense of achievement. It's awesome 😻

Fair thou art hath spar’d—all the church the name. Where not, where your devout a dazzled him, and Juan’s sight. I brough for question of glass; and love, with some pensive thee wind! And this presently roses, a very more slips and life with that hole.

They sight, all is rare, grownd betighted, parted brough. Deep, and the middle thy hair? The winds touch were up a think of all upon along, it such from encloudiness peace: so true, young day; he tufts of our dark eye to heauens did tea, shells, with the fields, this, than the moon. Its are break of dawn insteady— chaste not so stiffly yellowing his heards sunk, the ship’s rage out, as dry cold spring, help that wil, and now might measure, growing voice shepherds, of old at last, which wreck’d by the age now. The phone. Suffering in naked break against thought fair-lined for your mind made me to foule places, and the dearest.

The Shayna Michelle and crew were trying to make their way back home to Holden Beach, NC before Hurricane Ian made it to our coast. However, they were stranded about two miles off the coast of Myrtle Beach with engine issues. The coast guard was able to save the crew by helicopter but there was no way to get the boat to safety. The crew was taken to the hospital, treated for hyperthermia and released. Eventually, and in the middle of Hurricane Ian's arrival, the Shayna Michelle washed up in Myrtle Beach.
Boats were brought in from the Charleston area to help pull the Shayna Michelle shrimp boat out of the sand. With the help of local tow boats, the shrimp boat was back out to sea and home to Holden Beach on Oct 4.

( non-binary , they/them )
How would you describe the childhood of the character?
icarus’ childhood was very regimented, life planned down to a schedule since they could toddle. every kind of lesson you could imagine, cooking hand me down recipes in the kitchen with nonna, walking the vineyard with nonno before going back to cooking over and over again everyday. then by the time they were school age, icarus was shipped off to a local private school and they hated it. hated the scratchy uniforms, chock full of bland colors and solid fabrics. they still hated cargo shorts even now. parts of their childhood becomes rather blurry after the first kidnapping attempt at age six, their parents send them to boarding school soon after.
How would you describe the teenage years of the character?
this is right around the time when the usage of the nickname grover popped up more and more, trying to distance themself from their family legacy and the restrictions that came with it. wearing the “ female “ uniform to class just to get a rise out of the teachers, growing their hair longer just for the rebellion of it all. it is only thanks to their family’s money that they were allowed to keep attending, granted their acting out was mainly behavioral and nothing adversely disciplinary related. experimentation was their main mode and it hadn't changed much. grove loved exploring new music and groups of people, switching from the theater kids to the surfer bros then the skaters, the burnouts and back again.
How would you describe the adulthood of the character?
by the time college rolled around, grover had moved from being a hurricane to just a minor whirlwind and before they knew it their father let the subtle disappointment that their “ son “ had grown into spread their wings and go off to college ( for a handpicked major of course ) , having performance as a minor had been a stroke of whimsy because skirting the line of reality and pretend had gotten them through most of their life. oozing charm at fundraisers or open houses or when phobes tried to start shit in front of the press or god forbid his own family. being able to alter a mood, diffuse tension, switch faces: it’s a survival mechanism. acting professionally was something he fell into, the audition had started off as kind of a joke just to see if he could make something of himself without the legacy. then they got the part of daniel holden and that changed the current course of their life.
WANTED CONNECTIONS:
childhood friend: someone who has seen grover through all of the stages in their life; could be someone who doesn’t care much about their gender fluidity or someone who didn’t really understand and so they drifted apart before coming back together again.
why don’t you love me?: these two seem perfect together. great sex, deep fulfilling conversations, spontaneous adventures across the world but one thing grove won’t do is commit and your muse needs to know why.
part of the same world: someone who understands the pressure that is living up to a larger than life legacy. this is the person that grover cries too about random headlines detailing their family drama or how their family is trying to push them into a corner when it comes to taking over the business because this acting thing could never last.
