Using vampirism as an allegory for experiencing trauma and moving forward forever changed really makes writing far more fulfilling for me. This is why I love playing in horror! ✨️

In light of figuring out what to do with the announcement of tumblr and Wordpress selling content for AI generation, there will not be art today.
HOWEVER. I did make a UQuiz for the first time. It took longer than I expected, but I had a lot of fun with it. Check it out!

Here is the statement I wrote on my Slaughter Avatar. Jasper Sutton more commonly referred to as ‘The Jagged Blade’. Constructive criticism helps immensely as an aspiring author, updates to this project may be inconsistent as I primary focus on my supernatural horror novel which I’ve named ‘Project Psyche’. I am hoping to go the traditional publishing route so information on said project shall be limited.
The next Avatars shall be:
- Web
- Spiral
Thought I’d include some disclaimers because slaughter typically gets messy (See Below)
<a href="https://archiveofourown.org/works/54390121"><strong>The Jagged Blade</strong></a> (2358 words) by <a href="https://archiveofourown.org/users/Artysal"><strong>Artysal</strong></a><br />Chapters: 1/1<br />Fandom: <a href="https://archiveofourown.org/tags/The%20Magnus%20Archives%20(Podcast)">The Magnus Archives (Podcast)</a>, <a href="https://archiveofourown.org/tags/The%20Magnus%20Protocol%20(Podcast)">The Magnus Protocol (Podcast)</a><br />Rating: Explicit<br />Warnings: Graphic Depictions Of Violence<br />Characters: Jonathan "Jon" Sims | The Archivist, The Slaughter (The Magnus Archives)<br />Additional Tags: Implied/Referenced Torture, Minor Character Death, Animal Death<br />Summary: <p>An avatar at the heart of the slaughter strikes a deal with the archivist offering his statement for an unknown favour in return.</p>
Snippet:
“I like to think of The Slaughter as very versatile. I feel I help many of the powers. Does The Desolation not delight at the pain left down my path? the grief and suffering of those who know my victims. Does The Corruption not squirm through the decaying corpses? Patiently waiting to spread the filth to whoever is unlucky enough to find them. Is The Stranger not tickled by my performance of a wounded man looking for shelter? And with my unending torment are they not pushed towards The Spiral? Or close enough to death they can almost taste The End itself? And does The Eye not revel in the chance to know that fear?”
Content/Trigger Warnings
- References to Animal Harm (no direct depiction because I don’t want to write that)
- Graphic References of Murder, Torture (a lot of it)
- mentions of infested corpses
- references to manipulation
- if you find any more tags/ warning that I haven’t added please let me know and they will be updated accordingly :)

Six Sentence Sunday
It’s a Sunday, I’ve got six sentences, and I was tagged by the loveliest @myfavouritelunatic to rise up to the challenge and share them!
The sentences below are the start of the ending of a short horror story I’ve completed to submit to a Canadian horror anthology.
The light that refused to die burned like fire. That had been the deal — you came to the city to escape the darkness. And silence. And so you did. You pretended it was there — when the doors were locked, and the shutters hung sealed. But the light seeped in along the edges anyway, bleeding through and pooling on your floors and splattering the walls.
Tagging for next Sunday! @lady-of-imladris @coraleethroughthelookingglass @brotherdusk @occasionalmaven @myfavouritelunatic (hehe, tagging you back!) @daincrediblegg @thelettersfromnoone

Hello, writeblr! My name is Tyler Battaglia (he/him, 30+), an author of horror, dark fantasy, and other speculative fiction. I have a number of short stories out--or coming soon--and I am soon self-publishing a horror novel. You can find more information on my author homepage, but the evergreen intro is below!
WHO?
I'm a disabled, queer, Canadian author specializing in horror and other dark fiction. I run a writing prompt on Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok called #Saturdark.
I'm also a big reader and I have a personal and professional interest in futurism!
WHAT?
I write mostly horror, dark fantasy, urban fantasy, and other speculative fiction. I especially enjoy writing about religious trauma, grief, and things-not-quite-right. You can find a lot of sad gays in my writing.
WHERE?
Social media
You can find me on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, or through my newsletter.
Writing
I have short fiction available to read for free online, as well as in a couple of anthologies! Consider checking out the full list on my site, where I have indicated which ones are free to read online. I marked on my site as well the genre and any relevant content warnings for each.
This list gets updated whenever there is something new!
WHEN?
I've got short fiction coming out somewhat regularly, so the list on my site is updated periodically with new releases.
PRAY FOR HIM will be released in early 2024, exact date to be confirmed.
--WAIT, PRAY FOR HIM?
My novel, PRAY FOR HIM, is a story about being gay and performing exorcisms. It's about religion vs faith, being honest with yourself, the redemptive power of love (and not just romantic love)--oh, and demons. You can expect more updates about the book soon, but for now you can add it to Goodreads!
You can find more information on it, including a tag of stuff I've reblogged that's the vibe, on this WIP list page, which also includes hints of future projects!
WHY?
I just love horror and writing about grief and love and spooky nonsense. idk what else to say.
Would love to make more reader and writer friends and connections here on tumblr! Give me a follow if you're interested in seeing more. 💖

today's writer spotlight is @jojotier!
for ease of reading:
Laurel thinks to count the dead but can only count so high. There are hundreds of them. Thousands. They stretch off so far into the dark that Laurel thinks they might cover the whole of the ocean in legions of beautifully drowned gore.
There is a ringing in her ears and Laurel knows she is being called home.
Slowly, she lowers the light. The drowned ladies are once again rendered as shades bulging under the cover of the silent sea as Laurel’s throat burns with the salt.

I think I’m going to be trying a new routine this month. I’m going to try and read until I need a break from reading for the day and then I’m going to listen to music and write for at least an hour afterwards. I don’t know how well this is going to work out but *fingers crossed* this goes well.
I’m also going to hopefully put together two book playlists for two of the three books I can currently see myself writing tonight so I have no excuse to procrastinate tomorrow. The third book already has a playlist.

WIP Intro - Temperance & Mr. Wyrm.
Tumblr media
Title: Temperance & Mr. Wyrm
Genre: Body horror, romance, magical realism, drama, historical fiction (1980s), fairytale/folklore retelling (Prince Lindworm), novella.
Status: Second draft/revisions
Themes: Shedding skins - literally and figuratively - to grow into a new person; temperance (in regards to self-restraint and suppression against impulses); survival and faithfulness of love.
Content Warnings: General body horror, snake imagery, ableist language regarding autism, general socio-political norms of the 1980s (though I will keep this to a minimum as I feel like I don’t need to stick 100% true to the period. However, given how illness and healing is the core plotline, the whole being “afraid of AIDs” will make a brief appearance).
Synopsis: Two people try to navigate their unorthodox romance in spite of an arcane, snake-like infection that affects one of them.
Temperance Cavell, a six-foot tall autistic woman living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, lives a quiet, unexciting, and demure existence running a convenience store with her mother. But despite her mother's overbearing nature, the nonstop caring of her ailing grandmother, and her near-nonexistent social life, she cannot complain. This life is quiet, she’s (somewhat) in control, and nothing is unexpected…
That is until Jack Turner, the motorcycle-riding kleptomaniac with a heart of gold, bursts into her store one Saturday afternoon, and between them a romance reluctantly blooms. That is until such love is swiftly threatened to shatter when Jack’s body begins to betray him, contorting him into something that is completely, and utterly, non-human.

I'm running a survey on writing for my uni essay and am looking for some people to take it. (You don't have to be a writer to take it). If you have the time, give it a shot.
It's just some simple questions about writing and writer's block. Plus, there's a section at the end with some writing exercises to try and connect writing formats and flexibility to writer's block.
(Takes 15-30 minutes according to those who have taken it so far. Depends on how much you write)
