The Wedding at the End of the World has so many enjoyable character moments. You just have to completely suspend your disbelief for how they managed to do literally anything depicted in the episode, and who really cares if it makes sense? It's a great setup and gives every character something interesting to do.

Hot takes:

Love that we're continuing not to address Five's very obvious alcoholism. He's literally got a bottle or a glass in hand every scene and nobody can blame him.

It's the One Episode where Sparrow!Ben isn't a cartoon character, and good for him. I feel like it took until this episode to find him. I desperately needed more human-shaped Ben and less arch villain, please continue this trajectory.

Reggie's toast/poem at the wedding is iconic and also probably about his wife?? We don't talk about this enough. I'm obsessed with everything he says. Only major complaint is that 'Teenage Dream' cover. Ugh. I know they were so happy to get this in, but it's not the vibe that I enjoy from my Umbrella Academy soundtrack.

Another favorite s3 scene: the conversation between Viktor and Five when they think they've averted the apocalypse.

There were several points when I first saw this season where I thought 'oh no, they've lost the character'. Not only about Five, but he just didn't have to plot-driving mania he had the first two seasons. I've seen people say he finally got to relax, but in my eyes it came across as someone extremely depressed, especially post-Commission reveal. The fight with Lila, this scene, and the scene with Reggie on the edge of the world are standouts that calmed my nerves about the direction they were taking him.

It had been far too long since we had a good one-on-one with Viktor and Five, and I was thrilled that the issues left completely unexplored from the amnesia-plot of s2 were getting addressed. (And yes, Viktor deserved this entire conversation and it was in no way out of place, if not a season later than it should have been.)

The complete lack of self-awareness (or ironic understanding) when Five describes a villain as 'going off on their own and not listening to anyone' is so interesting to me. The way Viktor REALLY listens to him and absorbs what he has to say. How they parallel the s1 scene of Five on the chair and Viktor on the couch. The 'people are ants' line that reframes how Five sees the world. Loved every single choice they made here.

Also the visual of Five holding a cigar is just objectively great. Scenes like this and a few others made the season for me.
