Palm Trees in Ireland
Palm trees in Ireland are frost hardy and grow in gardens all over. They decorate our towns and suburbs, they are blasted by the salt air on our seafronts, and they are often seen in pairs guarding the entrances to farmhouses and give a tropical look to any garden.
However, they are not palm trees at all; they are the New Zealand native, Cordyline australis. They enjoy the common name of “cabbage…

On the harbour wall, Howth
I was puzzled by these footprint markings, which appeared on all the recent-looking cement patches on the paved surface of the seawall around the harbour at Howth. I couldn’t quite figure how they came to be white, and indeed whether they were accidental or deliberate. This one was my favourite - it looked like a scrap of architectural fantasy.

I went on an adventure yesterday — fossil-hunting in Portmarnock with my wife and our nieces! We got such a beautiful day for it and had so much fun.
The sea! I miss it so much and I don't know why I don't make more of an effort to visit it when it's so close.
I loved this bench. How long did it take to get like this? Will it eventually get buried or will the tide always pull enough stones back out with it?
We found these fossils in the bedrock! The fossils on this beach are from the Carboniferous Period (350-300 million years ago), or so I've read, but that's the height of my knowledge.
And these too. I think the big one is a Crinoid?
Some of the fossils we found for our nieces to bring home
And another one. This one is my favourite.
Then we went to Howth for ice cream and I appreciated the sea some more.
I'm obviously not gonna put my nieces on the internet, but here are the four of us. The youngest was putting on stick puppet theatre with her legs 😅
And finally we went down by the sea baths at Dollymount to the most shell-covered beach I've ever seen in my life.
The girls got plenty of shells for their collection and, in what I'm told was an important moment, saw an intact dead crab 🤔
All in all it was a great day and I was reminded of how much I love having salt on my skin and sea air in my lungs.

DART TRAINS COMING AND GOING WHILE THE RUGBY FANS ARREAR TO BE CONFUSED
The Dublin Area Rapid Transit system (stylised as DART) is an electrified commuter rail railway network serving the coastline and city of Dublin, Ireland.
TARA STREET STATION IN DUBLIN ON A BUSY SATURDAY
The station was unusually busy for a Saturday as there was a Rugby Match at Lansdowne. As soon as I arrived there was a special train and that reduced the pressure on the southbound service however because of the crowding I abandoned my plan to visit Greystones and travelled North to Howth instead.
The Dublin Area Rapid Transit system (stylised…

The weather was typically Irish.
The light was amazing.
I like that I didn’t sweat while walking around the harbor.
The end.
