Feeling beleaguered, post hoyas.

Despite the ongoing warm weather tantrum, the sunrise decided to grace me with her very first bloom. She kicked off two other peduncles due to being thirstier than I realized, but now I understand that I need to really keep on top of it right now. Sad to be losing all those would-be blooms, but some hoyas are like that. The bloom smelled a little like Froot Loops, but a little spicy? I liked it!

Last photo shows my first bloom of the season from my obovata, who is preparing for quite the season. (6 of 8 peduncles have blooms arriving). A much more easygoing hoya whose only “tantrum” is just turning into a statue for a while. I think the blooms smell like peonies when freshly opened.

The goal for this year is to get all plants to grow peduncles, even though the more reasonable goal is to get all my bloom ready plants to bloom. I’ve had three new plants make blooms so far this year, with hopes to get 4 more!

in sad news, some of my plants that looked ok post house freeze have taken several weeks to show their damage. all my big upstairs euphorbia and my oldest cactus from my first cactus prop are turning black and seem to be dead. my big Hoya obovata who bloomed this summer has dropped all her leaves and started to shrivel. my schefflera I took to my parents still suffered just being out in negative temps and is very ugly. My fiddleleafs are both leafless. My cut back Thai con is showing no signs of regrowth

Just postin' some of the hoyas that have flowered for me in the past few years

In order: hoya retusa, obovata, pachyclada, multiflora, shepherdii, bella, sunrise, and krohniana.

The neat thing about hoya flowers is that they all smell different! krohniana smells like cinnamon. Bella smells like sunscreen. Pachyclada smells lemony. It's such a cool genus of plants!

Hoya obovata 'splash'

I very much adhere to the Crowley school of horticulture. Only with slightly less theatre. The plant doesn't do what you want it to? We get out the scissors. Such was the case with this Hoya obovata 'splash'.

These two are now looking for new homes because their level of splash was not satisfactory.
