SEMANTIC ERROR MONTH ⌦ week 3: favourite dynamic + favourite quote/dialogue
↬ jang jae-young & ryu ji-hye (ft. jae-young's killing-blow speech)
Ah but, you know… why are you acting like you guys are close? Also, how dare you refer to your senior in that way? Sang-choo oppa said it was okay! But I don't like it. Stop doing that. If you really have to, call him Mr. Choo. I'll allow it.

Look how soft they are with each other! How can he look at her like this and just shrug it off as, “I’m grateful for her”?
If someone who didn’t know the context of this GIF saw it, it could be easily mistaken for a declaration of love.
Here’s how it might have gone, had we got one.
**
My take on Han Joon Hwi’s confession-
He’ll look deep into her eyes with one of those soft smiles he has only for her. “It was never your roomie.”
Kang Sol would receive it with surprise and disbelief. “But that’s not what you…” She’ll double check with her mind to process what he told her. “I heard you told her you only look out for me because you’re grateful for me.”
Joon Hwi would step closer, encroaching into her personal space. She’ll blush, part her lips. He’ll take that as an encouragement to go on. “Yes, grateful that you came into my life, Sol-ah.” She’ll tilt her head slightly and give him a shy smile, and that will prompt him to take her hand in his. “Grateful that I can…”
There’s a lot he wants to tell her, but he’s a man of action, not words.
“I’m grateful I can do this.”
Then he’ll simply kiss her.

Law School. 7
Story: 8
Acting: 10
Chemistry: 10
Comparable to: Suits (kdrama); the Devil Judge (kdrama)
This is a really really really good lawyer drama, especially in the first half of the series. If you’re looking for something strictly lawyer genre this would be definitely a go to one. Although in my unpopular opinion, I did think this drama was a smidge overhyped. Don’t get me wrong, it has a fantastic cast and the acting throughout is brilliant. It’s just the storyline itself was a bit ‘meh’ for me for some reason. Like as a lawyer drama it was fine, but the overall murder mystery was predictable at times and a tad bit too drawn out in certain places. I think maybe I would’ve liked it better if it was edited down so that in the end It would’ve flowed better. 🤷‍♀️ this won’t be a drama for everyone but don’t be too hasty at first to dismiss it. Try a few episodes first to see if you like it.

Semantic Error | Drama Review
2022
Tumblr media
Chu Sang Woo is a junior computer science majoring student who prizes reason, rules, and a rigid sense of what is right above all else. As part of his university work, he is told to work on a group project for the liberal arts, whereby the group is required to make a final presentation in order to pass the module. But as the rest of the group – whom he knows nothing about – have decided to leave him to do all the work on his own, he decides to remove their names, and make the presentation in his name.
But little did he know that when he did this, he would deal a heavy blow to the academic prospects of a senior student named Jang Jae Young. The latter, a design major, is Chu Sang Woo’s polar opposite. He is stylish, fun-loving, and – above all – extraordinarily popular. He is the closest thing the college has to a superstar! But when his credit for the liberal arts project is taken away, his grand plans to study abroad are suddenly thrown up in the air. He seeks out Chu Sang Woo and is of a mind to torment him. But when the duo is forced to work together, a strange attraction starts to develop between them…

As of 2022, This is My Favourite Korean BL Drama
I do not usually crave a second season for dramas or any shows that already closed off nicely in the first instalment. However, I am seriously craving for another season of Semantic Error and it's mainly so that I get to see our two main leads' chemistry again. A drama can have an unoriginal plot like Semantic Error but when you have a cast with this amount chemistry, it makes the show a lot more enjoyable to watch. I am really quite amused that the casting team was able to find the right group of people to play the roles in this drama, the casting did great and the casts themselves did wonderfully. I am very happy with the fact that in spite of Semantic Error being short web-drama, Park Seo Ham and Park Jae Chan were so well bonded. Their bond really played a big part in the reason I thoroughly enjoyed this drama.
I would also like to add that I appreciate the lack of "dreamy-ness" this drama has. The vibe Semantic Error gave felt more like your normal Korean romance drama, if you get what I mean.
Now, let's talk about the plot for a little while. I briefly mentioned that the plot was unoriginal and I stand by that, especially since I read a lot and I used to read fan-fictions. However, because this drama only has a few short episodes and it was rather quick-paced, I didn't have time to get bored with the cliches. The problems Jaeyoung and Sangwoo were met with in their relationship also made sense for the storyline, and since they were solved before I could come up with any criticism, I really have no complains. No complains regarding the plot at all.
Before I end this review, I need to mention Choi Yu Na and Ryu Ji Hye. Yuna is an amazing woman, personally I am straight but I think I am in love with this character. We need more of Yuna in Korean dramas, gay or straight or bi, anything, just more roles like her. And Jihye, I don't think we appreciate characters like Jihye enough. She's a character created solely as the third party in a monogamous relationship but I've realised we don't get enough of female third parties that step back without going through that vendetta stage, especially in Korean dramas. Korean show writers, can you please work to fix that? A role like Jihye can remain nice even after a rejection.

oh nooooo i’m sorry you saw the end of flight 😭😭 yeah i mean that was a well done ending with the parallel and all but it was just so random i couldn’t quite believe it. plus i did finish watching that movie at like 4am and it didn’t feel real.
in reading reviews of psycometry he seems to survive but has a “mysterious” end nonetheless.
how do you rank law school among his dramas? i don’t love legal dramas but i love academia/school settings and i like the sound of his character and the sort-of romance/friendship scenarios going on. basically i’m debating whether or not it’s worth getting a netflix trial for it 😅

Law school is a mixed bag, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The plus - Beom, obviously, and I loved the leading lady - both the character and the actress and whenever she shares screen with Beom, sparks fly. They have such wonderful chemistry that it pissed me off that, while a slow-burn romance was heavily teased, it was left inconclusive in the end. I will, specifically, choose to ignore one line Joon-hwi (Beom’s character) says in the end - it was bad direction because everything until then - his body language, his heart eyes, the way he cares for her, speaks an entirely different story.
There are subtle hints, though, that might lead you to conclude they’ll eventually become a couple, and my headcanon says they were totally married in that last scene which happens after a time-jump.
As for the story, it’s nothing great but definitely watchable. The first few episodes are jumpy, going back and forth in time, but it settles down after 3-4 episodes and that’s when the joon-hwi/sol-a fluff begins.
As for Beom’s character- he felt like a mix of Rang and Seung-tak to me - the perfect gentleman with subtle shades of grey. He doesn’t have much of a character growth, so don’t expect that. The FL is adorable. I’m repeating myself - but I loved her so much with KB that if he were to do a rom-com, I’d love her to be cast with him. And I loved professor Yang - both actor and character.
Every one of the supporting cast is good. Don’t expect too much out of it and just have fun.
BTW, for a legal drama, it has very few actual courtroom scenes. I don’t like student dramas because I’m too old for them and find them pretty immature but this one, I can relate to because the two lead characters are roughly around my age and the campus life shown here is realistic - instead of kids fooling around and whiling away their time (looking at you, BOF), they’re matured and responsible individuals.
If you’re going in for the romance, you’ll be disappointed because it’s left open ended, though you’ll have enough reasons to conclude they’re together in the end.
If not for anything else just give it a shot for these two - they’re adorable together
