the player, diluc thinks, is an incredibly endearing being.

he's come a long way from the curt and wary attitude he used to put on around the traveler (and by extension, you), and today is one of those days where he finds himself privately thanking whatever powers there may be that allowed your paths to cross, with him staring at the reflection of you hidden deep within the traveler's eyes in the wake of his fight with the abyss that fateful night in mondstadt.

as one of the first people to have their constellations manifest in the sky of teyvat, diluc is more than aware that the fact that you still choose to ask for his company in your (or, well, the traveler's) journey is a gift he must treasure deeply. he knows that it is your presence in this world that gives vision bearers a chance to become something greater than they presently are. he also knows that he is no longer as impressive of a companion in battle as he used to be from back when the sky wasn't as bright as it is now (when the world you knew was smaller and he was still a figure that you could look to and proudly call "your main").

but you always come back to him. when he least expects it, you invite him back to your party and diluc can't help but privately think, privately wish, that it's because you're as fond of him as he is of you.

standing in silent prayer while you bestow upon him artifacts that thrum with divine power is an experience he can never tire of. the claymores you give him, the food he eats, all the materials he needs to reach a breakthrough in his capabilities... he understands that you aren't teyvat's creator, but this world and everything in it seems to exist just for you. you, the provider, the sustainer, the beloved of all. sometimes, diluc feels that everything he has and ever worked for have all been for the sake of one day meeting you.

he's not a religious man by principle, and he loathes people of absolute power. the only exception to this, however, is you. he's not foolish enough to believe you're some omnipotent, omniscient being that lords above all. no, you're not like that. he knows this because the longer he journeys with the traveler and feels their bond strengthen, the faint whispers he used to strain himself to hear grow clearer and clearer until finally, one day, he hears you.

you're both nothing and everything he thought you'd be. you view the world of teyvat with so much awe and joy that it's infectious, and he finds himself smiling more often than not to the privilege of finally hearing you. the traveler always looks at him with an understanding smile when diluc slows down in their travels to listen to you. he lives for the moments when you talk to yourself or to someone else (a companion of your own, maybe? from your place beyond the stars?) because this is how he learns. your favorite food, your favorite nations, your favorite "characters" and more. he holds every morsel of information you unknowingly give close to his chest where all his affections and wishes hide. he likes to think that this way, he can be closer and better for you.

but he knows he's not the only one who hears you, and it is the traveler that is closest to you out of all them. even so, diluc harbors no ill will to the avatar you chose to see and travel the world through. you're so fond of the traveler, and how could he ever come to loathe anything graced by your love?

he knows how to play nice. it helps that most of your other chosen are people he can find himself enjoying the company of as well. diluc understands that as much as he wants to be the sole holder of your attention, the world does not function that way. he's willing to extend an olive branch so long as they can all work together to keep you present in teyvat. he can worry about his more aggressive competition later when they aren't at risk of being caught in such an unsightly state by you — all that matters to him, right now, is how to keep your gaze on him for just a little longer and keep you from leaving him again.

it's a daunting thing to be so close to your grace. you take diluc to lands he'd never thought he'd visit again, to ruins of civilizations long past, domains with unimaginable horrors and have him run, claymore and vision burning at his hip, into fight after fight at your command. it's tiring at best and painful at worst, but you always take care to heal him and his companions before leaving, and you always lead them somewhere safe to rest until teyvat brightens and you come again.

his current companions (his "supports", he inwardly preens) rest and talk amongst themselves once they feel your presence leave. it used to be something they, your chosen, would panic over, but now that they've gotten more used to you and all the signs that pointed that yes, this is your will, they've grown to be able to tolerate the harrowing chill that comes when your warmth leaves them. diluc leans back on his chair in front of good hunter to observe them. they're all people he's come to grow fond of in time: diona was prickly, yes, but ha become pleasant to be around once they grew past their misunderstandings. the young master of the feiyun commerce guild, xingqiu, was also a reliable companion both in and outside of battle, and for all his faults, venti has proven himself to be a devout believer, unwilling to be a burden to you or the party you've guided him towards.

under normal circumstances, he never would've met and forged such strong bonds with these people. if not for your own interference, he never would've bothered getting to know any of them at all. though he may have his own gripes and complaints at times of how their dynamic works when you're not around, diluc is still fond of them. he's grateful for the opportunity to grow close to people again, and traveling the world alongside them and the traveler has become one of the few things he's begun to look forward to outside of his duties as "diluc, master of dawn winery." when the day is done and he can sit and relax with them in the tables in front of good hunter, he can rest in the company of others who understand the near-maddening pull in his chest that draws him to try and get closer, closer, to you.

it's days like these where diluc quietly thanks whatever it is brought you to them, and prays that one day, he will no longer have to search through the traveler's eyes to see you.

No bcs I could litterally go on a rant on why bfidi/bfdia are sooo much better than bfb and tpot (IMO) cuz what the actual flip

Ermm so for starters bfdi is litterally the starting off point!! You don't have bfb or tpot without having bfdi first. And it's the only season so far the finished like an actual season with all the original cast members not being split up.

I love bfdi/bfdia BECAUSE of its like,,,rawness ig?? Like how organic it is. The two shows are passion projects and you can tell!! Not to say that tpot and bfb aren't, but they kind of loose some of that raw value that you find in bfdi and bfdia. And ik some people are like "oml it's just ur nostalgia🤓 he he hem hem" like yeah, I first watched bfdi/mainy bfdia when I was a kid and though the memories of it aren't clear, they are still prominent. I litterally started saying "jk kidding" because of pencil. (Among others quotes) And I feel like I still remember those quotes and little scenes now because they're just more memorable!! And that's bcs they're just better imo!! And i think theyre better because of how much creativity was poured into it!!

I don't wanna be that person that hates on new fans but like, alot of them tend to shit of bfdi and bfida and it's just so infuriating because those are the ones that are a product of true passion and creativity!! and yeah, maybe the humor isn't funny to you. Ok, whatever. It was a long time ago. And maybe the dialog is too "cringe" for you. Ok, I get that. Again, this was back in the 2010s. But it's being able to push past that and recognize that the two shows are just a product of true imagination and hard work is most important!!

Just going on a tangent here but object shows to me are expected to not be produced Iike a regular cartoon and have some errors and mistakes in them because that's how you know it's all just for fun. And I just feel like bfb and tpot loose that. Its fun, but it's not bfdi/bfdia fun. And I think this is because it became more of a career than a little side thing. Which sounds weird because it would be a dream to make object shows full time but then it's not something you can escape to anymore. IDK IF THIS MAKES SENSE BUT I HOPE IT DOES LOLOL

But yeah, disregarding bfdi and bfdia and calling them worse than their newer counterparts is disregarding what brought tpot and bfb to life in the first place.

EDIT: I also would like to add that I'm not hating on anyone who likes tpot or bfb more!! Not at all!! It's more so the people who love the newer two so much that they hate on the ogs!! And uhh since this post seems like a big new gen hate post, I'll also add that I love bfb and tpot as well! Obviously not as much as bfdi and bfdia, but I really enjoy how the two newer shows actually like, have deeper character developments! I loved watching characters I grew up watching get more screentime AND more depth!! Erm maybe I'll make a post on what tpot and bfb do right and why I think ppl like them more lolz

These men have gone through 3 luxurious dressing gowns. The gold silk "battle robe". The rich red "my bf dumped me :'(" robe. The velvety tasseled blue "morning after breakfast in bed" robe. Although I've seen Barbie a grand total of zero times, and ATSV a grand total of once, I think there's something so beautiful, so wonderful, about both tell a story about how you don't HAVE to follow every single system in place and do whatever they tell you too.

There's something about how with Barbie, young girls can find themselves in this world, as anyone can be a Barbie, and how anyone can easily find themselves as a Spider-person, because anyone can wear the mask.

There's something so wonderful about ATSV going against the "well this HAS to happen because I said so" idea, and from what I've heard, Barbie doing the same, with ATSV it's the Spider Society, and with Barbie, it's the Patriarchy. It's just, it's so cool to me.

so here's the lore from the star of eden pri-arm! the base form, star of eden: anti entropy, has lore meant to represent welt yang. but star of eden: world is all about everyone's favorite pathetic herrscher, welt joyce.

The youth was born in the void, where truth and lies simultaneously hovered around him.

funny story about this line, it used to drive me insane before chapter 33 explained it. before chapter 33, joyce's origin was very vague, there were implications that he just. didnt exist prior to the first eruption but we never got a proper confirmation until recently!

in bronya's words, "the consciousness known as Welt Joyce did not exist in this world prior to the first eruption." hes sort of similar to elysia and the herrscher of sentience (you could argue somewhere in between?), where he was a being born from honkai itself, rather than a human corrupted by the honkai. still, there are some vague connections between him and karl gustav, einstein's former teacher and psychologist, but honestly i dont feel like explaining all of that rn. curse you honkai moon arc and your unnecessarily confusing writing.

Despite that, he always smiled at the world, picking up broken fragments of souls from raging fires and abandoned ruins again and again.

this is just a first eruption description. he collected the fragmented souls and thoughts of the 300k victims of the berlin eruption, again and again, knowing that it was all in vain. he wanted to be a hero but he couldn't. he wanted to bring them salvation but he was not a savior. the "he always smiled at the world" line is also something id want to point out, brings another parallel to elysia. there may be some significance in how he was the first herrscher to choose humanity after elysia, making him the first recipient of her blessing. i hate this game frfr

The courageous butterfly finally escaped its destiny.

oh boy! i think there's a double meaning!

the obvious first meaning is the connection to the first eruption. "the butterfly fell on your fingertips. you repaired its wings." the butterfly escaped death thanks to joyce, yada yada

second meaning makes you look deeper. i could argue that the butterfly here could represent joyce himself, the "courageous butterfly" who escaped his destined path as a herrscher to fight for humanity. butterflies also represent rebirth (possibly going back to his connection with karl but again thats very vague) and new beginnings (joyce "starting anew" after meeting ein and tesla)

i think it wouldn't be too far fetched to say joyce could be represented by this butterfly, bronya did compare joyce to seele back in chapter 28 so maybe im not completely insane

heres another line that dealt high emotional damage to me. you know i was going crazy trying to figure out what that quote meant only to reread the ae vn randomly one day and. and its just a quote from ein. its just from ein.

this is a fan translation, so its not consistent, but i actually went to check the chinese version of the lore description and visual novel, and its actually word for word! this line also calls back to the line "he always smiled at the world" from earlier, in a way. as for "The world told him," this could have multiple meanings

ein was welt's "world" - the most obvious explanation. makes sense considering ein was the one who gave him his name and his first "real" friend

ein represented welt's "world" - similar to number 1 except less direct, imo this is more likely. ein, a human from "the world" said this to welt, a herrscher and outcast of the world

this is a mistranslation, the correct translation is "The one who called him the world told him," - also one of the most likely ones, according to a japanese user on twitter, this should be the correct translation, but im not sure if this is how its actually translated in jp. this one's a lot more direct and obvious, ein literally called him the world

now onto the skill names

first skill: Freedom Trail

ein, tesla, and joyce first found the star of eden after following the freedom trail and listening to HA. pretty straightforward

second skill: Ulysses

it may be pretty well known that welt got his name from ein, but tesla was actually the one who gave joyce his last name! she based it off of James Joyce, author of Ulysses. fitting for a bookworm like joyce, haha

third skill: Danny Boy

ohhhh this one hurt. oh i got so caught off guard by this one. i had to process it for multiple minutes when i saw it. it seems humorous out of context but i swear its sad

in the visual novel, an old folk song called "oh danny boy" pops up a lot. its a song sung by karl and emma to ein and one of the last memories ein has of her old friend karl. joyce himself also knew the song, likely bc of his connection to karl, and he and ein sung it together in this very nice scene between them. wow it really hurt when they called back to that moment,,,,

Literally me today

So basically on my walk home today, I had a very vivid idea of Clay and Boudreaux's band. Three Day's Grace's "I Hate Everything About You" perfectly shows off my voice HC for how young Clay sounded, as well as their band's overall sound.

Other bands that also work are the Foo Fighters, Taking Back Sundays, and Sleeping With Sirens. (Yes these are all popular emo/rock bands ik)

At the time, Clay was also dyeing his mane and tail black, or atleast the small bit of hair he could call his mane. He was already a good ~5years on testerone, but his mane was taking a long while to grow in, which is why he takes such good care of it and takes a lot of pride in it now. Also he no longer dyes his mane black now, but he still does dye his tail, as a fun little memory of the past.

Oh yeah did I also mention I'm putting my trans Clay headcanon in this? Yeah.

Anyways his band "Crimson Car Fire" advertised themselves a bit as a couple of hotties. Clay was into the idea too, even though he's definitely demi. He even went far enough to wear a fishnet tank with nothing under it to most of their shows.

He was terrified at first to try this though, since had much more recently gotten top surgery. Yes, we're back to that headcanon. Anyways, he was worried because his scars would show through his fishnet tank. Luckily (mostly) everyone was supportive, so he kept sporting it!

What else he would wear is some black cargo pants, with some chains. He also had some black leather fingerless gloves of course, black leather boots, and for necklaces he had a cross necklace and a necklace of his first guitar pic from his (late) father. He still wears these to do this day.

If he's not wearing only his fishnet tank, he's always wearing some tshirt from bands he went to concerts for. He also wears these to this day, and Ash and Johnny likes to refer to them as vintage. Although correct, Clay always insists that they're not vintage! (they definitely are).

Oh yeah back to the band. Clay is the main singer and playing some bass, with Boudreux (peacock) being the main guitarist, ane Julie (finch) fronting the drums and sometimes vocals. They're actually from the Sing equivalent of New Orleans (They did move to Calatonia and play most of their shows there, though).

As you can imagine, Clay was definitely shocked to see Calatonia again when he finally went to live their again with the Moon Crew. And to think they didn't keep a single drive-in movie theatre! (Will get back that with Clay and Ruby dates.)

Speaking of Ruby, she actually met Clay through the band. Was she a fan? No, actually, she though their music was too cheesy. She was just dragged there to one of Clay's bands shows by her friend. Clay may have winked at her and Ruby may have felt that.

The real crushing began outside of the show, though. They bumped into each other and Ruby recognized him from the show. I'll go more into this later, but yeah.

Now I did mention to other band mates, Boudreux and Julie. Boudreux was a hot shot peacock who played guitar, and him and Clay met at the end of highschool. There was a lot of unresolved romantic tension between the two, although it's gone now after they split up. He was definitely jealous when Clay and Ruby started hanging out, but what reason would he have to stop them? Him and Clay were never actually a thing, just a few in-the-moment instances.

(Oh yeah incase it needed to be stated, Clay is demiromantic, demisexual, and bi. Boudreux is a demiboy and flaming homosexual, and Julie liked girl in red. She also had a partner too who always supported her and came to her shows. They were definitely a colorful cast).

Anyways eventually the band split it. Julie had to move out of state to stay with her partner, and there was a little drama between Boudreux and Clay about Ruby.

Cut back to present-day, with Clay living with Rosita back in Calatonia, Clay likes to watch Ash's concerts, since it makes him nostalgic for his band days. (Picture Clay wearing an Ash concert t-shirt btw).

At one of her concert's his eyes actually catch someone familiar among the sea of heads. The impossible, unforgettable plumage of the one and only Boudreux.

Clay catches him after the show. Boudreux is surprised to see him again and gives the big lion an even bigger hug. Despite everything, they're still best friends, and they had a lot of catching up to do. I need you to realize, this is like 30-40 years later.

Boudreaux comments on how they both seemed to have grayed, and Clay can't help but give of a hearty laugh. They apologize for the rough ending back then, and some tears are shed. Boudreux asks about Ruby. "That girl was always at your side, where she at?" Clay is stuck, unable to speak. Lion's caught his tongue.

That's when Ash finally makes it ouside to meet back up with Clay. She notices that familiar grimace, and swiftenes to ask him what's wrong, "and who's this?"

Clay, seeing her daughter, that bright shining star, he gets back together again. He introduces him as an old friend. And then he continues "Boudreux, she's gone now. I'm so sorry."

Boudreux's usual snarky front immediately softens, and he quicky replies "No, no, why are you apologing. Stop crying this isn't your fault" and he begins to tear up, too.

Also yes, Ash is just standing their confused.

After a couple of minutes of silent sobbing, conversation starts back up again.

"Y'know, did you hear about Julie?" Boudreux begins.

"Oh my god, Julie. What happened" Clay responds in a hushed, weak tone, still recovering from the news he just gave.

"She, uhm. She was found somewhere in the upper states. Sam rushed her to the hospital. She uh, passed from a heart attack, I think."

Clay begins to smile a bit, despite the news. "That Sam of her was always there for, wasn't they?" He word out through his waterworks.

"Damn right they were. Perfect couple I'd say," the peacock answers.

Another silence passes.

Ash is on the side of them furiously texting her phone. Clay and Boudreaux forgot about her, actually. Ash is texting Buster and Rosita, saying they're gonna be a while, before putting back down her phone, out of courtesy.
