Sometimes I think I must consume media wrong because I don't remember The Lottery by Shirley Jackson fucking me up
Like sure I read it and was like 'wait hang on, what- oh dear.' but I didn't have the 'Dude That Was So Fucked Up I Am Fundamentally Changed As A Person' experience everyone else apparently had
And that ain't a flex btw this ain't a "oh I can read the most fucked up stuff and feel NOTHING" kinda bullshit I just. Wasn't that deeply affected lmao
#but also i got a B in English Literature A Level so I must be doing somethin right lmao#smol speaks#im trying to think why it didnt really mess with me. it wasnt a 'shocking twist' it's Where The Story Went to me#then again i dont remember many specifics from when i was younger. hell i barely remember the last week. i do know we read it though#i dont remember what conclusions i reached or what we even discussed. however i CAN think of a story that did affect me as a kid:#Lola Rose by Jacqueline Wilson. I read it in primary school and have reread it multiple times. i felt such a connection with Lola Rose#she was so similar to me even though we also had differences (her fear and hatred of sharks vs my love of them) (though her fear made sense#i dont think ive ever empathized with a character so much. and that book introduced me to the concept of abusive parents i think.#the idea of a parent who didnt simply love you but sometimes went about it wrong or made mistakes. but one who *actively* hurt their family#rereading that book again as an adult is heartbreaking ESPECIALLY the 'Voice of Doom' sections which *holy fuck i relate to*. there's such#dread and fear in that book but luckily there is hope and joy!! but God above the shit that girl deals with. anyway maybe reading a story#about a weird festival that ends with a stoning doesnt hit as hard when youve read about a girl seeing the bruises on her mother's chest#in the bath and having to tell her 5 year old brother they ran away from Dad because he hurt Mum and his response is 'but she deserves it'#abuse mention#better tag that huh. yeah sorry i put half the post in the tags again GOD i should make an actual Lola Rose post

Cheerleader and future rockstar part 2
Tumblr media
Warnings: arguments, cussing, running away, smut, Izzy being a cutie pie 🥰. Should be it. It’s a little shorter than i planned on but she’s here! Hope you guys enjoy:))
I pulled away from Izzy, looking up at him. His brown eyes were so gorgeous up close, swirls of chocolate candies dancing. “It’s rude to stare”, Izzy brushed a strand of hair out of my face. “Sorry”, I blushed and backed away some. Izzy grinned, “But a pretty girl like you it don’t matter” I kissed his cheek.
We walked into one of diners my father owns, “Hi how many? Judith!”, Traci got startled. “I’ll work a weekend so you can have time with Paul. Just don’t tell dad okay”, I smiled. Traci sat us down and smiled as she walked away. The whole restaurant was gonna know little Channing brought a boy in. Whose daddy is gonna shit when he finds out who it is. “You work here?”, Izzy asked. “Sometimes but my dad owns this one and two more by the interstate. He owns Wilson’s pharmacy, the record store downtown. Some stuff in Indianapolis and Chicago too”, I said waiting for Annie to come up.
“Damn you are rich”, Izzy laughed. “Mommy and daddy are rich not me”, I spat back. “Hi I’m Annie. Your daddy is gonna have your head, what can I get for you?”, Annie looked like she seen a ghost. Izzy giggled.. “Annie, this is Jeff. I’ll take my usual”, I giggled back. She took Izzy’s order, “Tracie is busy in the back. But she wanted me to tell you, she ain’t a snitch so you don’t have to work”, Annie sat beside me. “I said I would” “She doesn’t have Paul this weekend and she needs the extra money”, Annie said. I nodded. We left have we ate, Annie and traci made everyone swear they won’t tell my dad that I was skipping with a mystery kid. “You actually work for them?”, Izzy asked. “Sometimes, not just to keep them quiet when father comes in. He don’t care either way, he’s likes my brothers and little sisters more”, I said.
Two weeks after graduation
Izzy told me he was leaving for LA this week and he still wants me to go with him. “I understand if you don’t want to, but I really would like to have my girlfriend with me” “I’ll come with you, why wouldn’t I?”, I giggled. “I have 500$ saved up, we can live on that until we get a place.” Izzy said. “Okay”
We were leaving Friday morning in my car to California. Two weeks with driving the map said.
There was a small knock on the door, “Come in”, I said looking up from my vogue magazine. My little sister, Jackie walked in. “Hi Jackie, what’s up?”, I smiled as she plopped on the bed. She sighed. “Jackie” Another big sigh, “What is it, Jacqueline?”, I threw my magazine down. “I heard you and Jeff on the phone. Are you leaving me and Katie?”, she looked at me with sad eyes. “I told you to stop listening to my conversations!”, I sighed and rolled my eyes. “You are leaving us! Why??”, Jackie screamed. “Jackie! It’s just a vacation, Izzy wants to go see Hollywood. He wants me to go”, I grabbed the little girl so she could look at me. I know I’m lying to her but I might come back. “Okay, long as you come back”, She smiled. “When’s daddy coming home?”, she asked. “I don’t know, soon enough”, I smiled.
Friday morning came along, I was finishing packing when a knock came through the door. “Just a minute.” I slammed my bags under my bed. “Come” “Hi darling! So sorry we missed your graduation, we got held up in Chicago”, my mother walked in. “It’s okay Mom. Glad you’re back”, I smiled. Shit!! I was gonna sneak around to the maid’s quarters and run to my car. “What’s wrong darling?” “Nothing, just tired”, I lied. She smiled and walked away. I called Izzy’s, “Come on come on” “Isbelle residence”, Kevin picked up. “Kevin! Is Izzy is busy? Hurry!” “Jeff, it’s your girlfriend”, Kevin yelled. “Hi baby” “Izzy! My parents showed up don’t leave yet. I’m sorry but can we leave tonight instead?”, I sighed. “Of course, Jude. You okay?” “Just worried, but I’ll manage. I love you”, I replied. “It’s gonna be okay. Love you too”, Izzy grinned. “I’ll see you at 11”, I said.
It was dinner time soon enough, I stayed locked up in my room the whole day. “Where have you been, Judith?”, Father asked as I sat down with Katie. “In my room, I got another headache”, I said. “Did Nancy get you some meds?”, he asked. “Uh I had some in dresser still. Lucky me”, I smiled. “That’s good, buttercup. I want you to come to office with me tomorrow”, Father said as he drank some of his whiskey. “What for?” “I want you to get the feel of owning a business, well managing them”
“Daddy! Sissy has a boyfriend”, Katie interrupted. “That’s nice Katie. Now Judith, I think you would like the store in Chicago. She has a what?”, Father was saying. “Judith Monroe Channing!”, Mother gasped. “He was in my English class this year. He’s nice, daddy”, I panicked. “I would like to meet him, after work tomorrow. If that’s okay with you”, he smiled at me. “That’s perfectly fine with me, Daddy”, I smiled back. Fucking Katie! Jackie looked like she was gonna burst at the seems to tell them I’m ditching town soon. After dinner, I finished packing. Jackie walked in, “I’m gonna miss you”. “Awh honey. I’ll be back to visit”, I pulled her into a hug. Everyone was asleep, my parents were drugged up on quaaludes and ppainkillers.
I pulled up at Izzy’s house, his mom was working a late shift at the hospital. Izzy jumped in, “Hi gorgeous” he looked around, “Where’s the dogs?” “I couldn’t risk them barking and waking everyone up. Besides the twins will need someone to play with”, I sighed. “Baby, if you don’t want to go with me it’s okay I’ll catch a bus”, Izzy grabbed my hand. “No I wanna go with you. Just that Jackie knows I’m leaving and god. The look on her face when I told her it was a vacation” I started to cry.
We made it to LA in 10 days, it was so different here. I could tell we make this our home soon. “I think I found a place in Huntington Beach”, I said. “Really how much?” Izzy asked. “200 a month”
Izzy and I were making out on the couch, he had his hand behind my head as we kissed. Izzy was shirtless, trying to pull down my shorts without pulling away. “Mhm, Iz” I pulled away needing air. I pulled my shorts and shirt off, leaving me in my bra and panties. “‘Now that’s more like it, Channing”, Izzy grabbed my ass. “No it’s not, take your pants off”, I smirked. Soon enough I was braless on top of Izzy. “You sure you handle me this way?”, Izzy rubbed my nipple. “Mhm, I’m a big girl” “Don’t say I didn’t warn ya, princess”, Izzy smirked like a smartass. I put my hand on his mouth, “You talk too much”, I slide down him.
“That’s a good girl”, Izzy said bucking his hips into mine. I kept bouncing on him, feeling my tummy knot up. He reached in between us, rubbing my clit. I fell forward to his chest as he rubbed me. “Mhm don’t stop”, I moaned at his ear. Someone knock on the door, as I was close. “Fuck really? People now!”, I whined getting off of Iz. We got dressed before Izzy opened the door. “You’re lucky I got the manger to leave”, Bill smirked. “Fuck! Not you”, Izzy sighed. “Hi Bill” I laughed. “Hi Princess. It’s Axl now”, he waddled in. “Nice place. Are these Izzy’s or yours?”, Axl had my red panties dancing on his finger. “Gimme that”, I blushed as took them away from him. Izzy was banging his head on the door frame, “Stop banging that pretty head of yours, see if he has a place. I’m gonna go shower”, I kissed his forehead.
March 1986
Izzy and Axl had someone coming for the bass position of the band. Izzy drugged me along. “What the hell are you doing with a punk dude?”, I asked. “Branching out, princess”, Axl said as he took a drag from his cigarette. “Uh huh”, I rolled my eyes, this band had so many members come and go it was insane. “This is Axl, the singer and that’s my girlfriend, Judith”, Izzy walked with this 6’3 blonde kid dressed in a Johnny thunders tee. “Does the child have a name?”, I asked. He couldn’t be no more than 19. “Duff and I’m 21”, he smiled. “My apologies”, I replied. Izzy walked over and hugged me, “Stop being mean. Tracii said he was really good”. “I’m not being mean” “Sure you’re not, baby. I seen the resting bitch face”, Izzy kissed my neck. “I’m like with new people. Okay quit Izzy!”, I giggled as he nibbled on my ear. “Ax! Test out your mic now” one of the sound techs said. Axl walked up and let out his infamous screams. The look on Duff’s face was hilarious. “We’re still waiting on the results to see if he’s part banshee”, I told him. He just nodded. Soon enough Steven and Slash joined.
“Is Ax always this angry?”, Steven asked. “Long as I’ve known him”, I said. Steven nodded and Duff grinned. “How long have you and Izzy been a thing?”, Duff asked. “Six years in May” “Damn the longest I’ve had was a year”, Duff said. “3 months for me”, Steven giggled. I patted his shoulder, “you’ll get a girlfriend soon enough, Stevie”.
“Izzy!”, Axl busted in. “Izzy! Where the fuck is your husband?” “First off. Don’t bust in my place like that and he’s at the store. So sit your manic ass down!” I gave a scowl. “Sorry Jude”, Axl sat next to Duff. “Why are you so goddamn happy anyways?”, I scoffed. “I need my guitarists here for this, princess” “My apologies, my lord”, I rolled my eyes. “Hey don’t shut the door, ass wipe!” Slash yelled as Izzy walked in with bags. “Fuck! Who die?”, Izzy looked around as Slash slammed the door behind him. “Will you guys stop slamming my door like you own the fucking place? Nobody died, Iz I don’t think”, I walked to him taking some bags to the kitchen. “Judith! So you guys remember that dude that claimed he worked at the a record company?”, Axl stood in front of us, I stood in the frame of the kitchen. “Yeah Tom something”, Slash said. “Well, he actually does. He talked to his boss showed him the demo I had. Anyways this Greffen dude wants to sign us, a 4 album deal, tour with Motley Crue this summer”, Axl said. The room was silent as we all looked at the ginger singer. “Ax, shut up”, Izzy grumbled. I grinned, holding my tongue.
The phone rang as Izzy was in the shower, I laid on the couch watching a rerun of Mash. “Hello?” “Hi I’m looking for a Izzy. This David Greffen, I’m sure Axl has told everyone about the deal. Is Izzy around.” “Yeah hang on”, I laid the phone on the table. I busted in the a bathroom, jerked the curtain, “Get your fucking ass now! Axl wasn’t lying, the Greffen dude is on the phone. Hurry!”, I pulled his hand. “I have shampoo in my hair still”, Izzy sighed grabbing a towel as he ran to the phone. “Yes, I’ll be there” Izzy ran back to the shower to rinse his hair and body. “I’ll be back soon as I can”, Izzy ran to the door. “Excuse you, Jeffrey”, I spat. “Oh fuck. I love you, bye bye”, Izzy kisses me and my cheeks.
Sure enough Izzy’s ginger counter part wasn’t lying about the deal. The boys had been in the studio for two months non stop. Izzy was finally a rockstar, playing in band like Keith Richards. The 18 year old I started going out with be so fucking happy that he actually got his dream. Of course I was happy for him, he worked so hard to get here.
They were filming their first music video for MTV for Welcome to the Jungle. It was a fan favorite on the strip and was really good. Izzy was nervous, he was afraid he couldn’t fake play right, panicking if he chose the right outfit for this. I was talking to Steven’s girlfriend, Adrianna. She wasn’t my favorite person even before she cheated on him with Axl. Can’t believe he used them fucking on Rocket Queen, the parents would love that one.
Suddenly she smiled, I turned around to see Duff standing behind me. “What is it, Duff?”, I asked looking up at him. “Iz wants you, he’s in his dressing room”, Duff smiled. “Thanks”, I patted his shoulder as I passed him. I was gonna knock on his door, when he pulled me in. “Izzy! What the hell?”, I yelped as I went face first into his chest. “Judith Judith, sweet Judith. Did Duff tell why I wanted you?”, Izzy smirked. “No, he’s probably half lit”, I said, running my hand down his chest. “After all this time, you’re still so innocent”, he kissed behind my ear. I whimpered, “Better hurry, you only got 15”. “Perfect”, Izzy reached between us and got to my panties.
Izzy had pinned down on the floor as he pounded from behind. “Mhmm! Fuck go harder”, I whined. “Go harder? I’ll end up breaking you, kitten”, Izzy keep thrusting in and out of me. “Please”, I turned my head to look at him with puppy eyes. Izzy reached down and rubbed my clit around. I grabbed my panties, biting down on them as my stomach tightened. “Good girl” “4 minutes!” A roadie yelled. My stomach was cramping up, I felt different before my release. It hurts but doesn’t either. I moaned so loud, “Izzyyy!!” I came but felt like I pissed myself. Izzy laughed, laying his head on my back, “Yes, you squirted kitten. Told you we had time” “Fuck you” I whined as he pulled out. “Cute! I did fuck you, Kitten. You good?”, he rubbed my back. “No I’m embarrassed”, i blushed, now I was facing him as he held me. “Don’t be. It was hot, I really enjoyed myself with you. Come on I’ll help you”, Izzy kissed me. Izzy managed the best he could to clean me up and the mess on the floor. I looked down, “Why is not thick?” Izzy snorted, “I don’t know, love. Turn around” Izzy cinched my dress back up, “There”
“Just sit on the amp, you can still see me”, Izzy kissed my temple. “Hey. Love you”, I smiled. “Love you too, kitten” “Hey slut”, Duff’s girlfriend, Mandy smiled. “You heard?”, I asked, sorta blushing. “We all did. Was it good?”, She asked. “Yes it always is, but this time was different”, I said as Axl looked over at us. “What do you mean?” “Towards the end, i uh felt different”, I started tripping on my words. “Lemme guess you squirted. Yes it’s normal but it won’t happen always.”, Mandy smiled. “Oh thank fuck! She’s not broken”, I sighed. Mandy laughed, “Hey girls”, Adrianna smiled. “Oh hell. Hiya”, I giggled. “What are you two so giggly about?” She asked. “When she was with Izzy, she squirted for the first time”, Mandy said, smiling as Duff looked her way from the stage. “Oh welcome to the club, whore”, she kissed my cheek. “Is it that big of a deal?”, I asked. “Kinda”, Adrianna smiled.
After they filmed the video, they were an overnight stars. Every teenager, kids our age heard them, they wanted to see them. They were over the moon, but they had an album to finish. Axl was starting to become a diva and everyone walked on eggshells.
The door opened, “Hey Kitten”, Izzy smiled. “Hi, how was it today?”, I smiled, getting up to kiss him. “Better. I kinda blocked him out. Get dressed I wanna take you to dinner”, Izzy kissed me back. After dinner we were walking around. “You still happy here, love?”, Izzy asked. “Yes why do you ask that?”, I said. “I don’t know I’ve been thinking.. still thought you wanted to go back home”. “Jeff, home is wherever you are. I would be in Chicago taking care of dad’s businesses”, I rubbed my thumb across his hand. Izzy smiled, “I love you so much! Thank you for driving cross country to support my dream”, Izzy kissed me. “Love you too, handsome”, I giggled, nipping his ear playfully. Izzy gently pushed me against the brick, “You are so beautiful, my love” “mhm kiss me?”, I smiled. Izzy started to kiss me, but someone yelled my name. I finally seen my sister, Jackie. But she wasn’t nine anymore but looked to be 15. “Jackie?”, i walked towards her. She hugged me, “What are you doing out here? Where’s Katie?”, I hugged her back trying not to cry.
“Jackie! There you are, don’t take off like that. Judith?”, our mother said with Katie behind her. “Hi mom”, I smiled. She stood there stunned, “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you or dad that I was moving. Can’t believe Jackie kept a secret this long”, I said as she walked towards, she was pissed. “Oh Judith, my sweet girl!”, she brushed my hair out of my face. “It’s okay. You should have told us, we would have funded your trip well move”, she smiled. She hugged me. “Cheryl! Why did Jackie run away?”, I heard my father walk up, I tensed up. “Daddy, it’s Judith”, Katie said.
“Hi dad. Miss me?”, I smiled. “You’ve grown up on me”, he looked like he was about to cry. He pulled me into a hug, “Thought I lost you for good, Judy” I almost cried at that, always thought I wasn’t his least favorite child. Izzy stood there, unsure what to do. “Who did you run off with anyways?”, he asked. “Remember Katie telling you I had a boyfriend the night I left? Well it was him”, I said looking at Izzy. Izzy walked up behind me, “Oh you’re Sonja’s oldest, uh?” “Jeff but I go by Izzy”, He shook my fathers hand. “Thank you for taking care of my baby”, my mother said. “Not a problem at all, she’s great”, he rubbed my arm. “Is your singer single?”, Katie asked. “Katelin!”, I huffed, rolling my eyes. Izzy giggled, “Uh hard to tell anymore” “Izzy”, I looked at him. My parents and sisters had to leave that night, they spent the whole week trying to find me.
“Your parents are nice, Katie reminds me of you”, Izzy said taking his shoes off. “You didn’t talk to me when until senior year, Iz”, I giggled. “So? She still does”, Izzy stuck his tongue out. “You’re annoying, you know that?”, I giggled as he crawled into bed. “I’m aware, love”, Izzy smirked. “I love you forever”, I raised over and kissed him. “I love you too, kid. Until death do us part”, Izzy rubbed my shoulders. “Did you hint that you might propose soon?”, I bit my lip. “Go to sleep, Baby”, Izzy got at his spot. “You are planning on, you bitch!”, I gasped. “Good night, Judith”, he huffed. That fucker wants to marry me, I knew it!

So, let me get this straight, your bitch stepmother owns the house your mum was living in and has thrown her out? Lassie, you are aware you are essentially a real life Disney protagonist at this point, yes? That's not lost on everyone except me?
Exactly.
Well, she doesn't own it outright. But she's the only one on the mortgage. My mom never qualified.
So. Yeah. Things are. Not great.
If anything, I feel more like something out of a Jacqueline Wilson novel. One of those kids whose parents don't have their shit together and only ever taught them shitty coping mechanisms so they don't have their shit together either. I love my mom more than anything, but this is a pattern - she keeps picking abusive assholes who do so much damage to us and our family and she stays with them and then I pick up the pieces when it's all over. And that's the only kind of relationship I know how to have, ones that hurt everyone involved, and that scares the shit out of me.

i’ve committed to rewatching tdg now so i guess you’re stuck with me now :)
i’m going from the start of tbr and?? shit?? they’re all so tiny- i am emotionally unprepared for tyler and jody’s first appearances
honestly every time i see tracy i just wonder even more how exactly mmtb fits into this universe. specifically how it lines up with her appearance in the tdg s6 finale?? surely she should’ve had jess by then?? are there diverging timelines?? i need answers
might be an unpopular opinion but gina is for sure my favourite care worker they ever had. mike’s great and all but he is. far from competent, may-li got annoying after a while, and that new guy from s8 is just. ugh. gina was iconic
i think it’s so funny how the later seasons have such a focus on the laws the care workers have to follow, meanwhile in the earlier seasons and tbbr it’s just. yeah here’s a random person, she’s sleeping in the house full of kids now. why don’t we just casually employ someone who was in a prison cell not 10 hours ago. nothing matters
honestly liam is the best character. except ryan. why are both my favourite characters pretty much the same character
yess good, I'm so happy!! let's do this :D
they really are so tiny in the beginning of tbr, it kills me every time I go back like ?? how did we watch them all grow up?? that's so strange!! oh god and tyler and jody's first appearances!! they're so small, and like... so different from what they're like now? I just adore them.
yeah, I spent SO long trying to work out how to fit mmtb into tdg's timeline, and it is... very difficult. she SHOULD have had jess by the time of mike's wedding, when she makes her reappearance, but there's just no mention of her (obviously, because the s6 finale came out before jacqueline wilson had published my mum tracy beaker). so either jess just never comes up in conversation which is possible, as she could just be staying with cam, or we're supposed to believe that mmtb takes places years later. many years later. which doesn't seem so likely.
I can't even disagree, gina is the best careworker when you look at it from a realistic standpoint. she cares for the kids but she also puts boundaries and barries in place for them because they ARE kids, so sometimes she has to be strict with them and have them upset with her because it's the only way to keep them safe. she doesn't take the same risks or give them the same leinancy that mike and may-li tend to. she was just GOOD, you know?
oh god yeah, that's a good point. it seems that they're really trying to like be stricter about it now? which is a good thing, obviously, and they SHOULD, but then on the other hand, just a few episodes ago in 9b of tdg, May-Li and Scott just allowed some random 40 year old man into the care home because he was a singer and sasha claimed they were friends, so uhhh. I dunno. bit weird.
liam is a TREASURE, as is ryan. they really are quite similar, huh? I love that for them.

jacqueline wilson’s ‘love lessons’
Tumblr media
tw: abuse, pedophilia, characters making Bad Decisions, long unnecessary spiel about my childhood like I’m running a recipe blog
It’s funny how loads of the authors who helped shaped me into the vaguely humanoid being I am today have names beginning with the letter ‘J’; Judy Blume, Jeff Kinney, John Green, J.K. Rowling (yikes, I know) … and Jacqueline Wilson.
I’ve never owned a Jacqueline Wilson book of my own; they were always borrowed from a friend, or from a friend of a friend, or from a friend of a cousin- you get the gist. Her books, for me, come with an entire aesthetic: something reminiscent of yard sales, and reading under the covers with a flashlight, and being lulled into a false sense of security by the deceptively innocent Nick Sharratt illustration on the cover until someone’s best friend gets mowed over.
So I knew what I was getting into when I picked up Love Lessons. I knew this was going to be Fucked Up; and boy, was I right.
(Here’s the part where I warn you about spoilers.)
From an abusive dad to creepy child predator teachers to slut-shaming and victim blaming, this book has it all.
The main character is Prudence ‘Prue’ King, who is homeschooled at the beginning of the book, along with her sister, Grace. Their parents remain rooted in the early twentieth century, and are very strict about- well, everything. No TV, no computers, not a single mobile phone in the house; their clothing worse than the orphans’ from Annie; and their father remains distinctly distrustful of modern institutions like the school and the hospital; and so on, and so forth.
Daddy King suffers a stroke, and has to be taken to the hospital. Meanwhile, Mrs. King (a floppy, spineless woman who lives in fear and awe of her, frankly horrid, husband) sends the girls to school, behind the then invalid Mr. King’s back. Cue Prue and Grace being the freakshows of the school, with their strange clothing and overbearing mother.
Grace manages to make friends, but Prue remains alone. The kids are dicks, the teachers are dicks… well, all of them but one. And that’s the art teacher, Mr. Raxberry (I just couldn’t get over that name; it seems like something you’d name a mythical plant from Pixie Hollow or some shit. I’m assuming it isn’t an actual name, since the spelling & grammar check on my computer doesn’t seem to recognize it), or Rax, as he’s called.
Oh, yeah; Prudence’s favorite subject in school is art, and she’s a whiz at it. This is relevant, because reasons.
And here’s where stuff gets murky. Prue develops a crush on Rax- which is perfectly normal. I’m definitely no stranger to it; I’ve had crushes on my teachers, my mum admitted she used to think one of her professors was cute. And yeah, as I grew older, I grew out of those crushes and now have a markedly more refined taste in men (unless he’s 5’ 7’’, born in ’97 and named Bang Chan, I don’t want him); and my mum married my dad, so I’m assuming she did, too. Admittedly, now that my dad teaches at a university, it’s icky to think that there might be students who have crushes on him- but I digress.
My point is, loads of us have liked our teachers. But I doubt the majority of us have acted on it.
And Prue actively showing her interest in Rax isn’t the worst part. That’s a spot reserved for Rax reciprocating her feelings.
Guess Ezra Fitz and Ms. Grundy (yes, I watched Riverdale; please don’t cancel me) have a new addition to the Creep Club.
The age of consent in the UK is 16, if I’m not mistaken. Prue is 14. She’s just barely become a teenager, and she’s being preyed upon.
Because that is what Rax is. He’s a predator; he preys upon this vulnerable girl who’s never been in a relationship before- hell, she’s never even had friends- her father’s abusive, so she obviously doesn’t have the best experience when it comes to men- she’s unpopular at school, with the students and staff alike- and he lures her in. I don’t care how bloody nice he is to Sarah, or what a good dad he is (well, he’s really not, seeing as he cheated on the mother of his children WITH A BLOODY FOURTEEN-YEAR-OLD CHILD)- the guy’s a fucking pedophile.
I was staunchly stuck at a yellow light with him; like, sure, maybe Prue thinks he’s flirting with her- maybe she’s looking at this all wrong, she doesn’t know how relationships work- see, he drew a picture of Sarah, too, in his secret notebook- Prue’s just reading into this too much- up until he says he loves her.
Dude. Humbert fucking Humbert. She’s fourteen, for Christ’s sake, and you’re married. You have two children. She’s a child. She’s probably closer to your son’s age than she is to yours.
(This is the part where I bury my head in my pillow. And scream. Extensively, and with passion.)
The book does make some genuinely good commentary on slut-shaming and victim blaming and abusive parenting. And on one hand, I can see why so many people find issue with the romanticization of the when I kissed the teacher trope- but I can defend it, too.
The book is in Prue’s perspective. She thinks she’s in love with Rax, so obviously, she’s not going to throw in some valuable moral at the end- because she’s too young and inexperienced to think otherwise. And sadly, there are loads of instances of child abuse that go unreported because the victims just don’t know better.
What I have issue with is how the school dealt with it, ultimately. Prudence, a child, has to deal with the consequences of the actions of a literal child predator. Sure, Rax ‘clears his name’ by cooking up some bullshit story about how it was only a crush and he didn’t encourage it, but you’d think other adults would know better and, oh, I dunno- dig deeper into it, instead of blaming it on a child?
“She says you told Mr. Raxberry you loved him and he held you in his arms and fondled you.”
Which Prudence denies, because, again, she doesn’t know better. She then goes on to say that they did nothing wrong. To which the adult speaking to her, in this case, the principal, Miss Wilmott, goes on to say:
“I’m not sure that’s entirely true… I feel that there are some aspects of your friendship that could be considered inappropriate.”
FYI, lady, he kissed her- multiple times (not that kissing her once makes him any more redeemable), and told her he loved her, and admitted to fantasizing about running away with her and leaving his family behind. Fun fact: do you know Prudence is underage?
You’d think that Miss Wilmott would maybe give this whole fiasco a favorable ending, but it turns out she listens to school gossip;
“I haven’t been at all happy with your attitude. You don’t seem to understand how to behave in school. I’ve heard tales of unsuitable underwear and then a silly romance with one of the boys in your class. I feel that in the space of a few short weeks you’ve made rather a bad name for yourself… I don’t know whether you intend to be deliberately insolent but you certainly come across as an unpleasantly opinionated and arrogant girl… I can’t help feeling that you’ll be much better off elsewhere. I shall try hard to engineer a suitable transfer to another school.”
And then she comes out with this gem:
“If you won’t leave, then I shall have to ensure that Mr. Raxberry finds another position.”
“No, you can’t do that! He’s a brilliant teacher.”
“You should have thought of that before you started acting in this ridiculous and precocious manner. If I were another kind of headteacher, I would have Mr. Raxberry instantly suspended. There could even be a court case. He would not only lose his job, he could find himself in very serious trouble. Did you ever stop to think about that?”
Girlboss, gaslight and gatekeep. The fucking trifecta.
Also, by ‘another kind of headteacher’, does she mean the kind of headteacher WHO DOESN’T LET CHILD PREDATORS ROAM FREELY WITHIN THEIR HALLS?
This bitch is out here blaming a child, a literal child, for the crimes of an adult man.
The only time Prue seems aware of the fact that Mr. Raxberry is actually a very shit person is her immediate thoughts that follow after she tells Miss Wilmott she’ll take the fall;
I so wanted to save darling Rax- and yet why hadn’t he wanted to save me? Had he told Miss Wilmott it was all my fault, that I’d got a ridiculous crush on him, that I’d made ludicrous advances to him? … I wanted to tell this horrible, patronizing woman how hungrily he’d kissed me, but I couldn’t do it. I loved him. I had to help him.
NO, SWEETHEART; YOU MOST DEFINITELY DO NOT.
And maybe I’m going overboard with all these excerpts, but here’s what Rax has to tell Prue, after school, following her expulsion:
“I let her think the worst of you, the best of me, just to save my skin. I said it was ridiculous talking about a love affair between us. I said you simply had a crush on me, and that I was just trying to be kind… You were brave enough to stand up to me and force me to acknowledge the truth… I love you… That’s why I had to take a risk and see you this one last time. I didn’t want you to think I didn’t care… Every night when I close my eyes, I’ll think of us together in this car and how badly I wanted to drive off with you. I’ll imagine us walking hand in hand at the water’s edge… I wish I wasn’t such a coward.”
(I burrow into the pillow further. I’m trying to suffocate myself.)
And that’s where I think Wilson went wrong. Sure, Prudence getting expelled for something that was completely out of her hands is unfair, and horrible, but it’s real. That shit can happen.
What’s bad is showing Rax in a positive light after all that. If only Wilson had written Rax to not be the Romeo he thinks he is. Make him ignore Prudence, throw her under the bus in front of her face, instead of this star-crossed lovers bullshit it’s made out to be. Show your younger audience that Rax is not a good man. I’ve got a little over two weeks left for my twentieth; I can see why this is unacceptable. But I was a little younger than Prue when I watched Pretty Little Liars, and my only gripe with Aria dating Ezra was that Noel Kahn was so much cuter.
It shows when you scroll down the Goodreads reviews; you’ve got adults giving it one or two stars, and teenagers giving it four or five, with their biggest complaints being, “but Toby was cuter!!!”
Other non-pedophilia related complaints regarding the book include: Prudence being unlikable- which I didn’t really notice, considering she reacted to some people way better than I would’ve, even at 19 (which probably says a lot more about me than it does about Prue, but oh well). Still, Prudence obviously isn’t the most prudent of people- and again, she’s fourteen. Look me in eye and tell me you weren’t an arsehole at that age (unless you’re fourteen now, in which case, I assure you that you’ll look back on yourself someday and go ‘wtf was I thinking’). Bringing up Toby’s dyslexia in an argument was low, though.
There were people who thought the Kings’ almost-Amish lifestyle was exaggerated and unrealistic, but I assure you, it may very well be real. There are 8 billion people on the world- it’s fair to assume that several of them are complete weirdos.
Grace was a sweet character, and I adored her with every fiber of my being. As were her friends Iggy and Figgy. Honestly, I would’ve loved a book about Iggy, Figgy and Piggy’s (mis)adventures too.

150. Hetty Feather, by Jacqueline Wilson
Tumblr media
Owned: No, borrowed from a friend Page count: 394 My summary: Hetty Feather is a foundling, abandoned by her birth parents to a hospital in Victorian London. Growing up, she’s an impetuous and fanciful child, always getting in trouble for her smart mouth. Separated from her foster-mother at age five, Hetty returns to the hospital with one goal in mind. She’s going to get out, gather her family, and find her birth mother. And she reckons she knows who that is... My rating: 5/5     My commentary:
Hetty Feather! So I used to be big into Jacqueline Wilson’s books as a child - my favourite was the Lottie Project I think - but there comes a time in every person’s life where they deem themself too old for kids’ books, only to later revisit them as a sad adult. Or is that one just me? In either case, I was a little too old for Hetty Feather when it was first published in 2009, but I really wish it had been published a few years earlier, because I think I’d have really loved it. I do really love it, present tense! I had a lot of fun with this one, it was thoroughly charming.
Hetty is adorable. She’s a plucky but impertinent young girl, narrating her story from the future as she writes it down. She claims to have strangely clear memories of being an infant - but she’s also got a big imagination and could well have been making it up. She’s not perfect, and her smart mouth and quick temper often get her into trouble, but she’s self-assured and reasonably independent, and manages to get along pretty well under her own steam. I really liked her, she’s a sassy little shit and drama queen who’s very easy to relate to and identify with. She’s exactly the kind of heroine I absolutely loved as a child.
There’s quite a large cast in this one - Hetty’s foster-brothers Jem, Saul, and Gideon, her friend Polly, the nurses and matrons at the Hospital, to name just a few. Every one felt like a reasonably rounded character, however, with their own inner life away from Hetty. There’s also a few time skips in the book, in which characters naturally drift away from or grow closer to each other in a way I found to be realistic, it was a nice touch.
One thing I’ve noticed in the Jacqueline Wilson books I’ve read as an adult is how she doesn’t skimp on the realism because her audience are children. In this one, there are a lot of harsh realities of being a foundling and an orphan in Victorian London - Hetty treats corporal punishment as a matter of course, class divides are just as stark as they are in real life, and children dying of illness is a sad but present reality - and these aren’t really censored or watered down. Hell, when Hetty’s on the streets briefly she comes across some women who were obviously sex workers, and a creepy man tries to abduct her with obvious ill intent. It’s just that Wilson isn’t explicit about it, keeping the story both grounded in reality and appropriate for her young audience. It’s a hard line to walk and I really admire that she managed to walk it this well.
And, okay, I’ve read enough of her work to recognise Jacqueline Wilson’s Standard Plot when I see it. Plucky young girl with a big mouth and missing parents looks for her birth mum, that’s like half of this woman’s books. Which isn’t really a bad thing! For one, she’s written a lot of them, and for two, I get the feeling that they’re written with the expectation of her old audience ageing out of them, and a new audience coming in. Besides, even knowing the basic outline of this story idea, it was plenty engaging, and Hetty was a very loveable protagonist.
Back into Animorphs next, and it’s the last few books!

Various WWF Wrestlers x Fem Reader- "Got It? Flaunt It!"
The World Wrestling Federation's Attitude era: a time when most of the matches were violent and bloody, the gimmicks were vastly more adult oriented than in the past, and most of the women's roster were treated and turned into sex objects for male consumption.
Even if a woman was a wrestler who had wrestled for several years before joining the WWF, like Ivory, Jacqueline and Torrie (not Wilson), she was reduced into a sex object and fap material.
Speaking of sexually objectifying women, Jerry Lawler helped provide the commentary during the Attitude era and he's infamous for his sexual objectification of women.
During the Attitude era, he helped make his "Puppies!" catchphrase popular despite that he didn't invent that term.
And when he said "puppies", he wasn't referring to baby dogs.
The Attitude era probably had the trashiest, most shallow people in the audience ever, getting out of their seats and cheering loudly for beautiful but talentless women like Sable and Debra simply because of their beauty and sex appeal and nothing else and especially loving Jerry Lawler's "puppies!" catchphrase, sometimes even chanting "we want puppies!" in the crowd.
Y'know what Lisa Simpson said, you'll never go broke appealing to the lowest common denominator of society.
Near the end of 1999, arguably at the end of the 20th Century, during a "Monday Night Raw" episode, you strolled and strutted through a hallway wearing a black crop top with your cleavage hiked up.
Your tits were pushed up like Britney Spears' chest in that photo of her in her childhood bedroom from that infamous Rolling Stone photoshoot, your breasts were pushed up like Carmen Electra's chest in that scene from "Scary Movie" where her clothes are torn off of her and she's running in a bra and thong in the grass.
Your breasts were showing a lot of skin and flesh, but not enough for your nipples and areolas to be seen.
The camera zoomed in on your chest, only to slowly zoom out and reveal it's you.
The males (both grown men and underage boys) in the audience immediately got out of their seats and cheered when they saw some cleavage, a few of them even wolf whistling at you, Jerry Lawler sitting at the commentary table's eyes almost bugged out of their sockets whilst he shrieked "Puppies!!!" over excitedly.
While you strolled down this hallway flaunting your cleavage, Val Venis was leaning his back on the wall, his long hair hanging down and not tied back in a ponytail whilst he was dressed in his signature towel wrapped around his waist, only to see your chest sticking out.
His eyes grew wide and his grinned from ear to ear seeing your tits, and he walked up to you with his shit eating grin plastered on his face, his eyes staring down at your chest.
He wasn't the only one thirsting over your chest, Christian, yes, that same Christian from the Brood who would form a duo with Edge by the end of the year and blow up in popularity next year, was standing by a wall and he could see your ample bosom sticking out.
Christian had his long blond locks hanging down, not tied back in a ponytail, and he was dressed in a sleeveless shirt with tights.
He walked up to you and looked at your chest, whereas you stopped walking when Val had approached you, letting him take a good look at your tits.
Your eyes were looking into his eyes while your lips were grinning, your body was slowly and slightly swaying from side to side.
Val, meanwhile, was staring and gushing over your breasts with his smooth yet gravelly, iconic voice, and Christian, too, was getting a good look at your chest.
Christian's eyes were glued to your tits and his mouth smiled, and you turned yourself around so Christian can look at your tits, your mouth still grinning while Christian looked at your chest.
Your arms and hands were behind your back, coyly swaying your body left to right like a little girl, even your facial expression was like that of a stereotypical naughty kid.
"Are...are they real?" Christian asked.
You nodded your head.
Christian, too, was gushing over your breasts, and Val tried to invite you to his hotel room, though so was Christian.
Christian got a little bit angry and nearly almost scuffled with Val, but you interrupted them and lifted your arms, resting your arms across the back of their shoulders, your fingers playing with strands of their hair.
You purred to them that they both can come (in more ways than one) to your locker room.
As you said they can both come to your locker room, your eyes were looking back and forth at them while your lips grinned from ear to ear.
They liked that idea, both of them nodding their heads and grinning.
"They're some lucky men!" Jerry Lawler exclaimed on commentary.
"So...what time can we meet up?" you asked them.
"After the show?" Val suggested.
"Yeah!" Christian chirped, nodding his head and smiling.
"Sounds good to me" you purred, still grinning and smiling.
You pulled your arms off of their shoulders and walked down the hallway some more, and Jeff Hardy and his brother Matt had approached you, their eyes staring at your chest.
A few teenage girls in the audience got out of their seats and shrieked when they saw the Hardy Boyz, who had gotten a makeover and were up and coming wrestling stars.
"I know it's not polite to stare" Jeff Hardy said "But damn..."
They both were smiling while looking at your chest, and you stopped walking so they can stare at your tits.
You were staring more at Jeff and smiling at him, he's the hot Hardy Boy in your opinion.
Jeff raised his hands towards his ribcage while his fingers motioned like he wanted to squeeze your breasts.
Just as you were showing off your chest at the Hardy Boyz, you rotated your body towards the left only to find the New Age Outlaws were behind you; Billy Gunn and Road Dogg.
The audience got out of their seats and cheered when they saw that they were right next to you.
You looked a little surprised when they were right next to you, but whatever.
Billy and Road Dogg were grinning whilst their eyes were staring at your chest.
Billy's hair was hanging down, not tied back in a ponytail or having little braids.
"I'd love to do those puppies D-O-double G style" Road Dogg stated whilst his eyes were staring at your breasts, and what he said got the males in the audience out of their seats cheering for him.
"I might be an Ass Man" Billy said, grinning from ear to ear "But even I can't resist some nice puppies"
"Me too!" Jerry Lawler exclaimed on commentary, not being shown on screen.
Your eyes were staring into Billy's whilst you smiled at him.
"Y'know I like you, Billy" you said, leaning your body against his and your voice trying to sound sexy. "But as for you, ehhhh..."
Your head turned and looked at Road Dogg when you were unsure of what to think of him, your face looking disgusted when you said "ehhhh...", much to Road Dogg's dismay.
"What?!" Road Dogg asked, his face looking puzzled and slightly upset.
You then walked away from them both and continued strutting through the hallway, your tits bouncing up and down while you strolled through the hallway.
Al Snow approached you from your right side, where even he couldn't help but get a glimpse at your tits.
The audience got out of their seats and cheered for him once they saw him.
His eyes were glued at your cleavage and he grinned from ear to ear looking at your chest.
Like the Bella Twins said, he can look, but he can't touch.
He followed you and tried keeping up with you, staring at your bouncing chest.
You continued walking down that hallway, your heels clicking on the slick, hard floor.
From the left, Shawn Michaels had walked up to you, and you were really happy seeing him come up to you.
Women and even a few teenage girls got out of their seats and cheered when they saw Shawn appear on screen.
Shawn's eyes were staring at your cleavage, he grinned and smiled while looking at your breasts.
You stopped walking to have Shawn observe your breasts, you smiled whilst he thirsted over your tits.
You lifted one of your hands and your fingers poked through his hair, your fingers playing and stroking his hair.
You slightly leaned your body to Shawn's torso and pressed your tits onto his chest, your voice sounding sexy and seductive.
You were inviting him if he wants to come, in more ways than one, to your locker room when the show's over.
Shawn couldn't help but stare at your breasts, but you were reminding him to look up at your face.
Of course Shawn wants to come with you, in more ways than one!
It seems like when you walk down the hallway, every man runs up to you and wants to look at your chest.
After spending some time with Shawn, you walked down the hallway some more, and Stevie Richards, yeah, that Stevie Richards from ECW and (for a little while) WCW rushed up to you and looked at your chest.
You don't mind Stevie looking at your tits, he is a cutie pie (though you don't mind if Al Snow stares at your chest as well, even if he didn't look at that good with that handlebar moustache).
Stevie was trying to keep up walking behind you, he followed you from behind while his eyes were glued to your chest and his mouth smiling.
Davey Boy Smith was leaning his back against the wall as you strolled past him, and even he had to walk up to you and stare at your chest.
You stopped walking once Davey approached you, letting him take a peek at your cleavage.
Stevie stopped walking behind you when you stopped walking, where you let these two men get a glimpse of your chest.
"Y'know, I respect you as a woman" Davey stated "But..."
He's pretty much at a loss for words at your chest.
Davey Boy Smith nearly could mention how his nickname is the British Bulldog and how he wants to do your puppies doggystyle, but Road Dogg already mentioned that.
Davey's eyes were gazing at your ample cleavage, he was smiling looking at your chest, whereas you were swaying your body back and forth whilst smiling at him.
You also turned your body towards Stevie Richards for him to have a peek at your chest, your lips grinning from ear to ear at him.
Once you felt like you had enough of Davey and Stevie looking at you, you turned your body to a swerve and walked past Kane who was leaning his back on the wall.
As you walked past Kane, even Kane's head turned to look at you as you strolled past him, though you couldn't see if he was smiling at your chest or not.
Test (yeah, the same Test that married Stephanie McMahon and had a relationship with Stacy Keibler) would stare at your tits, though he's about to get married to Stephanie McMahon.
Though, damn, there's a wrestling storyline: Test is secretly cheating on Stephanie McMahon with you!
Your milkshake brings all the boys to the yard.

Best books of the decade!
I’ve seen a lot of booktubers doing this and I’m not confident to update my youtube channel yet... So I will make a list!
IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER!
My sister Jodie - Jacqueline Wilson
At the start of the decade, I was 9/10, and completely obsessed with Jaqueline Wilson books. They were so important to me because there was always some kind of message/awareness of serious topics. My sister Jodie... is dark as heck honestly. I still reread it sometimes.
 Hush Hush -  Becca Fitzpatrick
This series was the highlight of my emo phase when I was 13. If I read this series now, I’d probably still like it for different reasons. Cheese, a bit like Twilight. I loved this series because fallen angels and edge was my shit. Honestly, I can’t really tell you much because it’s been a while since I read this... but I am planning on rereading this year!
The Princess Diaries - Meg Cabot
I really, really, really, really loved this series. Growing up alongside the main characters helped me understand growing up just a little more. I remember being on book 7 and leaving it somewhere in London... I was heartbroken, midway through the book and I lost it... Anyway! It’s a dumb, fun book when you’re a fresh teenager. Even if the romance is creepy when you look back at it and realise that Mia is 14 and Michael is 18...
The Maximum Ride series - James Patterson
I remember one of my best friends being absolutely obsessed with this series. She made me read it and I’m glad she did because I loved it. Kids who were tested on, kids with wings trying to find out where they came from whilst fighting the evil of the lab that experimented on them.
Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen
I have to have at least one classic on here and this book still makes me squeal when I read it. And can I just -
Tumblr media
Red Queen - Victoria Aveyard
Because how could I not love Red queen? I have Broken Throne left to read now and I NEED IT because I miss the characters already. How awesome would it be to be able to zap people with lightening? If you don’t think that’s awesome...Then just stop reading...go away... ;)
The characters are just amazing and the build-up is amazing and Tiberias Calore is amazing and I love him and Evangeline - o h  h e c c .
If you haven’t read this series yet, do it now.
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe -  Benjamin Alire Sáenz
This book is so fucking pure and I loved every second of it. I found some fan art which is literally my laptop background because it’s so freaking cute! LGBTQ+ rep is right there and it’s beautiful. Beautifully written, the author is a poet and you can tell, this isn’t just a book, its art.
A Curse so Dark and Lonely - Briget Kemmerer
This was like no other Beauty and the beast retelling I have read. Taking place in both Washington DC and the fantasy world of Emberfall. I really loved this book and as I write I am in the middle of the second book. When reading this I could picture it so vividly, it is so well written.
The folk of the air trilogy - Holly Black
Ohhhh this trilogy was SO GOOD SO SO SO GOOD! I am soooo sad that it is over, I miss the characters! I really got into fantasy this decade and this series was a fucking highlight. The fanart out there for this is soooo beautiful! Faeries for the win!
That’s me done for now, but if I had the energy I would be writing this for decades! What were your favourite reads of the decade?

Ok I’ve literally been unable to stop thinking about all the books I loved as a kid so I’m going make a list of like my favourite childhood (meaning stuff I read from yr 1 to yr 8 roughly) book series/authors because I can (with like random anecdotes relating to them for some). And maybe if it’s out the brain I can start chilling again. (I’m fairly certain this will be long as hell)
Ruby Redfort - Lauren Child I have several memories relating to these books because THEY ARE THE BEST. Ok, so first memory is how I got into them. My town has a local lit fest and the year this first RR book came out, Lauren Child came and did a talk there. I went with my mum and it was super cool, I got the first book (signed!) and fell in love with the series. I also remember she gave away a like unfinished copy of the book to another girl in the audience. She also spoke about how the author of the RR books mentioned in Clarice Bean had given her permission to write about the character and I believed her; like me and my mum left and I was like going on about how I wanted to read the other books and then it turned out they weren’t real. Also that year I dressed up as Ruby for World Book Day at school: I wore this hand me down slogan tee with ‘so over it’ on and a hairgrip with a plastic fly glued to it. The other strong memory of the books I have is actually to do with them. Y’know the scene (in I think it’s book 2) where Ruby’s hiding and she describes hearing the tap of Italian leather shoes and you know it’s The Count. Like that scene makes me lose my shit everyday I remember it, like I had major chills when I read it.
The Declaration trilogy - Gemma Malley
13 Treasures trilogy - Michelle Harrison
My Secret Unicorn - Linda Chapman
Stardust - Linda Chapman I distinctly remember I returned one of the books from this series to the library. When I went to take something out next I was told I hadn’t returned it. I went and checked and found it on the shelf. That was the beginning of my dislike for the local librarians (the rest occurred when I did work experience there many years later).
Rainbow Magic - Daisy Meadows I absolutely adored this books as a kid. There was one in particular (the one about the fairy w/ the same name as me) that I treasured. It was my comfort book and if something was up with me it was obvious because I was reading that book again. Unfortunately I decided I was grown up and gave them all away a few years ago which sucks coz I could do with my comfort book again.  Another thing, recently I looked these books up for some reason and discovered Daisy Meadows is a pseudonym for multiple authors and that one of the writers was in fact LINDA CHAPMAN of several other of my fave childhood book series. Absolutely wild.
Dolphin Diaries - Lucy Daniels Guesss what? It’s another pseudonym in children’s literature. Turns out Dolphin Diaries was written by Ben M. Baglio. I’m beginning to think my entire childhood was a lie.
Tiara Club - Vivian French
Sophie Mckenzie books I’m not sure if this was in one of her books but I do remember that around the time I was reading all her books I read a book where and American character ended up in London. She was in the bathroom and she heard a local person talking and went off on one (in the narrative) about how this person should move to the USA where her accent would be appreciated. To this day, weirdest scene I’ve read. I hated it. But I loved Sophie Mckenzie’s books.
Uglies - Scott Westerfeld In year 8 we had a booklet of extracts we were studying. The final extract of the booklet was from Uglies which, coincidentally, I had recently read (as had one of my friends). Unfortunately, we never studied it in class. Largely because, whilst he was strict and scary as hell, the teacher we had was super easy to distract. He was ex-army so all someone had to do was bring that up and he’d go off on one for ages. There was also another lesson where somehow the class ended up discussing spongebob for most of the hour.
Jacqueline Wilson books I mean, I wouldn’t be a British girl if I hadn’t read a ridiculous number of Jacqueline Wilson books; Hetty Feather was my favourite. Also, in like year 5, I lent my copy of Dustin Baby to a girl in my class. Never got that book back.
Enid Blyton books Specifically the boarding school ones (St. Clares, Malory Towers and Naughtiest Girl). I actually used to get the Naughtiest Girl books instead of money from the tooth fairy. I guess my parents must have got the box set cheap and decided that this was a good idea. And tbh it was.
Lady Grace Mysteries - Grave Cavendish Another case of a pseudonym - Grace Cavendish was the main character, not the actual author. Anyway, I read this when I was in like yr 4 which was also a time when I couldn’t sleep well and I was awake a lot (idk why). My parents, not having technology to blame for problems as they do for my brothers now, decided these books were to blame and banned me from reading them. So that was fun.
Gwyneth Rees books My year 1 teacher (who was, like, the best) got me into these books, that’s it.
Meg Cabot books So, I really only got into these books because two of my friends loved them. These two friends would often wander off w/o the rest of the group to talk about boys and their crushes. That’s mildly relevant, the point is I read these books (and did enjoy them) purely because one of those friends liked them and I had a crush on her (not that I actually realised that at the time).
An Unfortunate Fairy Tale series - Chanda Hahn
Iron Fey series - Julie Kagawa Both this series and the one above were the specific genre I was reading when I was 12/13. Like books where a girl is not normal and there’s a mean broody fae love interest with black hair and blue eyes was my shit back in the day, I was reading many series like it but these two are the ones I still have positive thoughts on. Anyway, I distinctly remember reading books like this and listening to Taylor Swift constantly. I was like trying to bond with my friends like yeah my type has black hair and blue eyes (coincidentally a similar appearance to a guy who asked me out around the time, we’re not going into that mess though but I didn’t date him, we’ll leave it at that). Anyway, more than anything these books combined with Taylor Swift songs was my way of staving of the realisation I’m gay and of trying to make myself straight. It clearly wasn’t that effective.
House of Night series - P.C. & Kristin Cast
Vampire Academy + Bloodlines - Richelle Mead I had these series on my nook. I read them way too much purely because it was easy to. Now, my nook is broken and the account inaccessible so they’re lost to the ether.
Jackson Pearce books Oh god. Ok, so when I read Sisters Red, it was the first book I’d read with swearing in. I remember going to my mum and being like there’s a swear word because I wasn’t sure I was allowed to read that and I didn’t want to be found out and end up in trouble. So that was fun to.
Fantastic Diary of Bathsheba Clarice de Trop series - Leila Rasheed
Sita Brahmachari books Artichoke Hearts in particular, I just remember loving it and then reading all her other books that were in the school library.
Rose series - Holly Webb
We were liars - E. Lockhart So this is one of the only stand alones here but I have to mention it. In drama we had to sit and read quietly as the teacher went through the register and called us up to see our exercise books. I was reading this book. I also happened to finish it before I was called up. I was crying, knowing I’d have to talk to my teacher in a few minutes trying to not look like I’d been bawling.
Cathy Cassidy books
Thora series - Gillian Johnson
Journey to the River Sea - Iva Ibbotson
A year without Autumn - Liz Kessler

17 Questions Tag Game
Tagged by @runawayface <3
nicknames: I was called Bunny by my parents when I was little, and my mum called me ‘Usagi’ which just means bunny in Japanese, because she’s half Japanese and thought it was cool to give us all Japanese nicknames or something. I mostly go by Bunny online too!
zodiac: Aquarius. I only recently looked into my sign and apparently I’m spantaneous and creative, which I guess makes sense.
height: 5′5″.  Kind of short. Not as short as yam, and definitely not as short as Sabrina either! I’m way shorter than my partner though; he’s 6 foot.
hogwarts house:  Ravenclaw. Believe it or not, I’m actually pretty smart.
last thing I googled:  ‘stuffed peppers recipe keto’ because I had a random pepper I needed to use and I’ve recently gone keto in an attempt to lose some weight and get that blood pressure down lmao
song stuck in my head:  Honestly at the moment it’s ‘Say So’ by Doja Cat. I love everything she’s come out with recently.
number of followers: like 45??? which makes sense because I never post and I’m not really a Stardew blog anymore. I might change the name of this blog soon tbh.
amount of sleep:  I have a really really bad sleeping pattern but I need at least 8 hours each night - I’m anaemic and I feel soooo sick if I don’t sleep enough. But I never do, because being a uni student and working late nights at a bar doesn’t allow for that much.
lucky number: 4, but I’m not sure why.
dream job:  maybe a writer or a teacher. Definitely not a bartender, I hate it.
wearing:  Pyjamas full time now. If I go outside I wear leggings and a big t-shirt. I’m looking forward to going back to wearing nice shit soon.
favorite song:  that’s a reallllly hard question but some classics include Everybody Wants To Rule The World and Mr Blue Sky, and anything by Marina or Ariana Grande because I’m trash.
favorite instrument: Either piano or violin. I played guitar as a kid and was really good actually but I was kind of forced into it so I wasn’t that into it and quit while I could.
aesthetic: Usually ‘resting bitch face.’ I only ever wear black to be honest, but I’m not exactly a goth. I’m not sure.
favorite author: same as yam, it was J.K Rowling but that’s kind of fucked off now. I enjoyed Jenny Han’s books and also Jacqueline Wilson’s books when I was growing up.
favorite animal noise:  cats purring
random:  I’ll just list some fandoms I’m in: Harry Potter, Stardew Valley, Sailor Moon, Borderlands, Pokemon, Attack on Titan... and lots more. I guess my favourite nostalgic game of all time is Pokemon Diamond and I really like Asian food.

Get To Know Me Tag <3
I was tagged by @tabbyrhsims4simblr and @racingllama in a couple of different get to know me tag type games, so I decided to respond with this hybrid by racing llama <3 which includes all the questions I was asked! Thanks for the tags guys, they made my day!!
Name / Nickname : Alexandria/Alex
Height : It’s technically 170cm but I’m immature as fuck so I’m gonna go on record and say that it’s actally 169 eyyyyyyyy
Zodiac sign : *adore delano voice* I’m a fucking Libra
Hobbies : Singing, gaming, patting my dog, yelling about feminist theory and treading my slow descent into madness
Favourite colours : Burgundy, plum and brown.
Favourite books : Harry Potter by some terrible white lady, The Slightly True Story of Cedar B. Hartley by Martine Murray, A Prayer For Owen Meany by John Irving, Animorphs by K.A. Applegate (FIGHT ME), The Ancient Future by Traci Harding, the His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman, anything by Jacqueline Wilson but especially The Dare Game and The Illustrated Mum, Chasing After The Wind by Dale Harcombe and Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta.
Last song listened to : Monday, Monday by the Mamas & the Papas
Inspiration for muse : In the context of this blog, I think my #1 muse would have to be Nola from my Blood Legacy. She’s inspired, as many of you know, by my grandmother - also named Nola.
Dream job : I’d love to be successful enough as a musician to be able to support my family financially, but not successful enough that I became famous. I can hear my therapist’s heart palpitations from here. I’ve actually had a few different dreams in my life so I can keep going! I used to dream of being the owner of a sex shop called “The Love Shack”. I would also love to own a witch shop. Reading tarot cards, drinking tea and being surrounded by candles and incense all day sounds pretty much like heaven to me. I could plug my band in the shop too! It’s all coming together! Haha.
Meaning behind your URL : I’ve answered this one quite a few times before but I never get tired of it! My Mum and I started this blog together back in 20...10??? At the time, my username on the Sims website was BlackWeb6 (that username dates back to when I was an emo kid in high school circa 2005!) and my mum’s username was AliCats. So, naturally, when we decided to start a tumblr blog together for our simming adventures, we named it BlackCatSims!
Cats or dogs? Dog person 100%, but I can appreciate cats. They cute.
YouTube celebrities or normal celebrities? I kind of object to celebrity culture on principle but I must be a hypocrite because there’s heaps of famous musicians I borderline worship like Janis Joplin, Amy Winehouse and Mama Cass. So I guess my answer is....normal celebrities? Mostly dead ones? With the exception of Hozier. He’s still alive last I checked. HE’S STILL ALIVE RIGHT?!?!?!
If you could live anywhere where would that be? Rarotonga.
Disney or DreamWorks? I guess I technically have to say Dreamworks since I’ve dedicated my heart and soul to She-Ra and the Princesses of Power??? I’ll have to take my anti-corporation rant elsewhere lest my hypocrisy continue to shine through.
Favorite childhood TV show? ALL ABOARD THE MAGIC SCHOOL BUS!!!
The movie you’re looking forward to most in 2020? What’s a movie?
Favorite book you read in 2019? Haha. Uhhh.....does reading Enya lyrics inside a CD insert count?
Marvel or DC? Which one do I hate more? Impossible to answer.
If you choose Marvel favorite member of the X-Men? If you choose DC favorite Justice League member? My fav Spice Girl was Feminism Ginger Spice
Night or Day? Day. I’m solar powered.
Favorite Pokémon? PONYTA FOREVER
Top bands: SO MANY AHHH I LOVE THIS QUESTION!!!! LET’S GO!!!!! *takes a deep breath* Crowded House, R.E.M., Stevie Nicks, Hozier, The Beatles, Nick Cave, Nick Drake, The Cranberries, Tracy Chapman, Eric Clapton, Janis Joplin, The Mamas & The Papas, The Seekers, Leonard Cohen (except his weird “put the pussy on a pedestal” shit like calm down suzanne), Simon & Garfunkel, David Bowie, Paul Kelly, Amy Winehouse, Evanescence (just slipping this one in here inconspicuously), Peter Paul & Mary, Ella Fitzgerald, Blondie (angry horny babe), Enya, Rasputina, Gin Wigmore, Snake River Conspiracy, Within Temptation, Nightwish (Tarja <3), Amy LaVere, t.A.T.u. (never forget the bitches who helped you realize your sexuality) and you know what they’re not real but I’m gonna end this list with one of my favourite bands of all time: JOSIE AND THE PUSSYCATS!!!!
Top movies: ^^^ Jerkin’! Tretorns are the new Adidas!
America or Europe? Well I’ve never been to America but I’ve seen pictures of that orange cheeto shit-stain ra(c/p)ist who has a lot of money and power for some reason so I’d like to stay as far away from that as possible because it makes me so scared to be alive that i have just decided I am definitely not going to talk about this here next question.
Tumblr or Twitter? Tumblr
Pro-choice or Pro-life? Pro-Choice because I’m not a misogynist or a large smelly poo.
Favorite YouTuber: definitely that band arty-rex they’re great
Favorite author? I dunno man. I haven’t read a book in a while. I like all the ones I listed earlier! I just haven’t read them in ... a while ....,,,,,
Tea or coffee? Both!!! Coffee when I really need to get moving and tea for every other occasion on the planet. Stubbed your toe? Cuppa tea! Found a penny on the street? Cuppa tea! Cuppa tea? Cuppa tea!
OTP? *takes long drag of cigarette* I haven’t heard that acronym in years....
22. Do you play an instrument/sing? Yep :) You can check out me and my Dad’s band on instagram or find us on youtube!
I hereby tag anybody who wants to do this, and @teekalu, @sulanisunrise, @kscriba, @kimmmygibbbler, @stretchskeleton, @ratboysims, @helloduckie, @pxelbeans aaaaaaand @onceuponasimblr <3 <3 <3

Rules! 1. Post these rules 2. Answer the questions given by the tagger 3. Write 11 questions of your own 4. Tag 11 people!
Tagged by: @itmakesyoulooklikealoser. Thank you!! I really love doing these!! ^.^
1. What is your favorite guilty pleasure book?
I like re-reading kids books sometimes XD Like old Jacqueline Wilson books that I read growing up. They’re just a nice form of comfort.
2. What did you want to be when you grew up when you were a kid?
A stand-up comedian. I have no idea why. I think I thought I was hilarious.
3. What is your top OTP?
Merlin/Arthur from BBC’s Merlin. Always. Ugh.
4. Physical book, ebook, or audiobooks?
Oh, physical book for sure!
5. What accomplishment are you most proud of?
So... once I was told by someone very important that I was - for all intents and purposes - a shit writer. And that broke my heart, so I did every thing I could to prove them wrong, and a couple of years later, I sort of did... so, I’m pretty proud at how far I’ve come in that regard.
6. Is there a common thread with your favorite fictional characters?
I am weak for snarky characters. Like if they appear and sass someone I’m immediately in love. I also really love giant dorks.
7. How do you organize your books?
By colour XD I tried to do it author-wise like a normal person, but I like having them arranged in such a way that there’s a balance of colours on the bookshelf.
8. Do you have any pets?
Not currently :(
9. If you could meet any one person, who would it be?
Shakespeare. I think he’d be fun
10. What book/series does everyone seem to love, but you didn’t?
The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins. I could not STAND that book.
11. What is your favorite tv show?
Friends. I sold my soul to that show when I was like, 13 and it still hasn’t let go
 My Questions:
What are you currently reading?
What is something you’re excited about that is going to happen in the near future?
If you could get any writer in the world to write something, who would it be and what would you have them write?
If you write fic, what is the ship or the fandom you’ve written for most?
What toppings do you put on your pizza?
Did you ever go through a Twilight phase?
If you could marry a fictional character, which one would it be?
What is a book you loved as a child that not many people know about?
Name a celebrity you’ve met in real life
If you wrote your own TV show, who would you like to cast in it?
What song has been stuck in your head a lot recently?
I’m tagging: @merlination, @clotpolesonly, @rarity-kasket, @colinmorgay, @misadventurousmongooses, @gonutso, @kingtoyourwarlock, @lydia-st-james

Book tag thing
I am embarrassed to admit that i completely forgot about this, but @staticbooks tagged me in this little book question thing 📖
I’m going to do a ‘read more’ link because this got way too long lmao.
1. What was the last book you DNF?
I think the last book I DNF was ‘The Slow Regard of Silent Things’ by Patrick Rothfuss. Not sure why I put it down, but i’m sure I’ll try to read it again soon.
2. What’s your opinion on E readers and audiobooks?
I feel kind of average about these things, but if you pressed me on it I’d say they’re great for anyone who wants to use them.
Actually, the only thing I’d feel strongly about is someone who shits on them a lot because, like, why would you? They’re convenient and, to some people, necessary. Why get mad about different ways to experience/consume books and stories? As much as I love physical books (and I do, I barely use my Kindle because I’m terrible at keeping it charged), I think E readers and audiobooks are awesome because they change the medium of reading -for the better- for so many people.
TLDR; I think they’re cool.
3. Which book had the most influence on your life?
WOW, this is a hell of a question... I think Harry Potter definitely had an influence on me when I was younger, as did many of the fantasy books that I read back then. They shaped what kind of things I’d want to read/write as I got older.
More recently, Station Eleven had a pretty big influence because it taught me some things about myself, and made me feel a bit more positive. But then again, I feel like most books that I read have a pretty big influence on me in one way or another.
4. What was the last problematic book you read that you should warn others about?
This is annoying because I know I read something recently that made my eyes go like 👀👀, but I can’t for the life of me remember what it is.
The thing is, I love the whole sci-fi/fantasy spectrum with all my heart (you’ll often find me hovering in that section in bookstores), but it is kind of like a minefield when you read books of that genre. Especially in regards to older books, where they’re most likely to be full of problematic/harmful stuff.
5.  What’s your fav book series?
I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: I really love the Pellinor series by Alison Croggon. They were actually books that had a big influence on me as a young teen, helping and inspiring my own writing.
Often, I only read the first book of a series and forget to read the others, but I’m excited to read more of the Themis Files by Sylvain Neuvel and the Wayfarers series by Becky Chambers.
Recently I’ve also been really enjoying the Illuminae series and I can’t wait for the third book!
6. Who’s your favorite author?
Haruki Murakami would definitely be up there as one of my favourite authors.
7. When did you learn to read?
I know this sounds dumb, but I really can’t remember ever not reading. Although I do remember when I was very young, having my mum read to me every bed time. Books have always been a part of my life! I’d sit in the library after school for hours reading all of the kids books on the shelves 😊
8. Which book do you wish had a sequel?
I feel like most books I read end up with sequels, or if they don’t they’ve rounded up very nicely for me, so I don’t really know.
9. Fav book series as a kid?
I won’t say Harry Potter again, so I’ll just go with a few of the classics like: Horrid Henry, Mr Men, Goosebumps (although I was too scared to read most of them), Katie Morag and the Tracy Beaker books -i loved jacqueline wilson as a kid-, to name a few!
10. Fav place to read?
Outside on the swing chair during warm summer evenings ☀️ (preferably alone)
11. Is there any particular reason you started reading?
I honestly think it’s just in my blood! My mum and dad and nan read all the freakin’ time, so it’s no surprising thing that I love to read as much as I do. It’s always made me happy, and I hope it always will (book slump or no).
