thinking about nami's backstory and how she begged for help twice, and both times ended up with Gen getting beat up and sliced to ribbons, as well as the rest of the villagers getting attacked as nami watched in horror, and this was after watching her mother get shot in the head
then later on in arlong park, she watched as several marine ships came to try to help and watched as arlong and the fishman pirates sank each and every one of them before the navy stopped sending help altogether and in just a few hours nami realized that she can no longer ask for help, it won't successfully come without lose of life of either random people or those she cares about
so at that moment she decided that she can't rely on anyone, can't ask for help lest they get attacked, and that she is completely and utterly on her own
and then comes in luffy and the straw hats, determined to help, but i think it's important here to know that luffy waits until nami asks for it, something she was avoiding until arlong backed her into a corner and everyone she loves was about to be killed despite all her effort and struggles
asking for help meant death to whoever would, but not asking for help would lead to the deaths of those she was trying to protect
so she asked

After almost a full year of playing ER every day, it is so funny to watch back some of my old videos on how I attempted bosses for the first time. Well, I only recorded Godrick and Morgott, but regardless. It's fun to see how I ran at Godrick full speed with my lil crystal sword (which carried my ass for the first half of the game, I love that sword) but he just gently slapped me with wind and one-tapped me. Good times.
There is a certain beauty about not knowing what you do in a game, you can only do that once.

[Story, 'Demon King of Salvation', is continuing with its storytelling.]
I managed to endure only because of my Stories. They continued to whisper into my ears – they said that you're the 'Demon King of Salvation'. You must save people.
Just like how they did to Metatron and Agares, Stories were whispering to me.
Whoa, whoa, whoa.
I know that Dokja has always been very Dokja about saving people whenever he could, especially his companions, but the way that this is phrased...
Is the fact that he became Demon King of Salvation actually making his whole "saving people at whatever cost" thing worse? Not to mention the fact that his only stigma is not only about saving people, but specifically about sacrificing himself to do it.
I know that stories in ORV give beings power (and can also give them weaknesses too) and Dokja himself has talked about how people can be taken over by their stories but I never thought that maybe the fact that his whole thing is saving people (by sacrificing himself) might have generated some kind of circle.
He saves people (by sacrificing himself) > gains a story/modifier/stigma related to saving people/sacrificing himself > that increases him wanting to save people/sacrifice himself > he saves people (by sacrificing himself) > that adds to his story of saving people/sacrificing himself > that increases him wanting...
Well, at least in regard to his companions. There have absolutely been times where Dokja has chosen himself over complete strangers or where he's chosen his companions over others. In fact, Heewon even says so in her fight with the Demon Kings:
The next one to pop up in her head was Kim Dokja.
⸢We should save him. But, if you do that, you'll die instead, Heewon-ssi.⸥
Kim Dokja might say the right things, but because he was worried about her life, he'd turn a blind eye to Kyle's plight.
Hmmm... so is Dokja being affected by his own story or is this just a natural reaction to him finally having friends & family that he cares about combined with the fact that even from the very beginning he's never thought much of himself?
Or both. Both is good bad.

thinking endlessly about how much chas chandler means to constantine. like that is his best friend, has always been his best friend, someone who will always owe him and whom he will always owe. chas could sell him out to the highest bidder and constantine would never hold it against him. anyone who's done their research knows that to get to him, to find him, all you do is find chas chandler first, because if they're not already together, one call will fix that with no hesitation. constantine has crawled into burning buildings and summoned aztec gods for chas, and he'll do it again. and again, and again, and again.
