Probably not the discourse you want, but I literally lie awake at night thinking about why the fuck houses Rowan and Tarly sided with Rhaenyra. There’s not a reason given really?????? And Ormund Hightower had married Lady Sam not that long ago, so presumably they were down with the Hightowers then. Beesbury makes sense for obvious reasons, (lol) and the Lady Regent Tyrell deciding to sit it out because she’s a widow with a baby lord, but the rest? The Battle of the Honeywine bothers me so much???? It shouldn’t have happened. But I guess Daeron needed someplace to be daring? And also the Reach had to be nerfed, otherwise the Greens probably would have had more of fitting chance. This just drives me up the wall.
I’ve seen some explanations for why the Starks went with Rhaenyra, including that the Starks actually with the Velaryons in supporting Laenor’s claim at the GC, which is very interesting! Maester Yandel speculates it’s because they were still upset about the New Gift, but it could be for several other reasons, and maybe those reasons are still extant when it came to picking sides in the dance. I don’t really think the Pact of Ice and Fire, if real, is that compelling of a reason tbh.
Seven blessings, Branwen, and thank you for dropping by!
I have an entire tag dedicated to this topic, if anyone is interested. I have also tried to think of an explanation, but haven't been able to come up with many that satisfy me. It really does seem that George worked himself backwards from his set-ending of Aegon III and had to make sure the blacks won somehow, but, unfortunately, he ended up overpowering them, defying logic and resorting to many deus-ex-machina moments.
You make a very good point about why/how Lord Ormund would even marry Lady Sam in the first place if House Tarly didn't support Aegon II. Lady Tyrell wants to stay neutral, but somehow the Hightowers leave Garmund in Highgarden? So he can be a convenient hostage if the Tyrells decide to change their minds? The whole explanation with Lyonel Hightower and Lady Sam as to why the Hightowers couldn't raise a second army - I very much dislike it and really feels random AF.
@duxbelisarius pointed out to me recently that a lot of these places, governed by Reach houses that sided with Rhaenyra, cover the distance between Oldtown and King's Landing: Uplands, Honeyholt, Highgarden, Bitterbridge, Horn Hill, Longtable. That's mightily convenient, since it basically prevents another Hightower host from reaching the capital.
As for the reasons why - George is really going to have to invent blood feuds from scratch, basically - because I can't imagine that Otto spent all those years after Viserys' dismissed him as Hand and did not go on a full propaganda and lobbying offensive to secure the Reach for Aegon. When has Rhaenyra lifted one finger for the Reach lords, by the way? Why would the Reach lords not prefer a Reach-adjacent King to unhinged royal consort Daemon Targaryen? What could they possibly gain by disregarding Andal Law in favour of Rhaenyra? Don't they have bastards and elder sisters, too?
Even Lady Jeyne is a mystery, to be honest. Yes, she is blood related to Rhaenyra, fair. I could accept this explanation. But her claim has nothing to do with Rhaenyra's. She is her father's only living child. She is disputed by her cousins, not her inexistent little brothers. Lady Jeyne as ruler of the Vale is very much in line with Andal Law. Why would the greens take that away from her? She's been Lady of the Vale since she was a baby (under a regency) and no green has ever contested her. What exactly does she gain with the legal precedent of Rhaenyra taking the throne ahead of her brother? Lady Jeyne has no brothers. A daughter inherits before an uncle.
Furthermore, Daemon kills his wife, the kinswoman of her regent Yorbert Royce, and she is fine with it? Very well, it's more ambiguous in the books, but Daemon goes to petition Lady Jeyne for his wife's estates and she must have found that insulting, since she kicks him out of the Vale. And now she wants to commit her armed forces to help this man become consort?
Couldn't Lady Jeyne have decided on a military alliance with the greens in exchange for them supporting her as ruling Lady of the Vale any time she needed it? Or at least remained neutral? There was nothing to gain from throwing her lot with Rhaenyra.
The Starks may very well could have been upset by the New Gift, but that was Alysanne's doing, Rhaenyra's and Aegon's grandmother. What bearing does a long-dead queen have on anything? Yandel says this is why the Starks sided with Rhaenys/Corlys at the Great Council of 101, because they had beef with Jaehaerys and Alysanne, but let's examine that for the moment.
Jaehaerys and Alysanne are divided on this matter. Jaehaerys' preferred heir was Viserys. He had the ultimate authority to deny Alysanne re: the New Gift, but he didn't. Alysanne was the instigator in this regard. Her preferred heir was Rhaenys - yet the Starks vote as Alysanne would have liked? How is this payback/revenge, exactly?
Furthermore, Rhaenys is still a Targaryen, so it's not like the dynasty would have ended with her. I very much doubt Laenor would have used the last surname Velaryon if he ascended. It is very likely they would have reached a similar agreement like in the show, let's be serious. In addition, Rhaenys has nothing to do with the New Gift either? Neither does Viserys.
Also, the decision during the Great Council of 101 is very different. Both their fathers were dead by then, so proximity to the King is not an issue - both Rhaenys and Viserys are two generations down from Jaehaerys. So the question really is eldest daughter of the first son vs her male cousin (from the second son), similar to Lady Jeyne's predicament. By Andal Law, Rhaenys should have been Queen. The Starks, therefore, in a man v woman situation, prefer to vote for a man, even though the man in question is a cousin. Yet during the Dance, they side with a woman, even though the man they pass over is a brother, i.e. more closely related? What exactly are they doing here, just voting the opposite way Andal Law indicates, any time they get the chance? If the Starks are such staunch feminists, ahead of their time, how come Rickon's daughters, Serena or Sansa, don't later inherit Winterfell?
If you ask me, it would have been in the Stark's best interest (and in line with their ideology) not to get involved in this at all. What do they gain? What incentive do they have to side with Rhaenyra? An oft-given argument for the Starks is their honour and them not wanting to "break their oaths". But we already have an in-universe character obsessed with the law, that is Stannis Baratheon, and he eminently doesn't seem to think that oaths taken before Aegon's birth have any legal value - he calls Rhaenyra a traitor. So what oaths would the Starks be breaking then?
I don't know, at least the Pact of Ice and Fire could have provided some incentive for Cregan's support - he trades his military intervention for a future daughter-in-law - a Targaryen princess that's (likely) to come with a dragon of her own. I'm not inclined to believe Jace was as irresponsible as to marry Sara Snow, but if he did, Cregan also got a future Queen that could have influenced policy in favour of the North. It's a more straightforward and understandable military alliance - each party gains something by this agreement.
IMO this distribution of power for the Dance would have made more sense.

I love how the Celtic Mythology TV Tropes page went from "Relatively accurate (after I worked hard to revise it)" to "Filled with disinformation thanks to a couple of overly active users + cracks about the pronunciation system (that aren't even accurate)"
...they were saying that "Bres" should be pronounced "Bresh."
...There is a reason why "Bres" is spelled "Breas" in modern Irish -- that is a BROAD "es", not a palatal, the palatal "s" sound "sh" does NOT apply.
Tumblr media
It's. It's "Brigit." The name. "Brigit." She is usually called. "Brigit." In pretty much all medieval sources. Or "Bríg." Neither of which. Is...
Tumblr media
He. He isn't confused with Eber Donn. He IS Eber Donn. Where are you getting this stuff? Where is he the son of the Dagda? Were you actually high when you wrote this?
Tumblr media
Is the Dagda. Kind. Is he really? Or is that a headcanon to fit a specific image. Of the Dagda? (Who, in at least one story, requires multiple TWs for what he allows one of his sons to do?)
Tumblr media
We have literally as much evidence for Tethra and Manannán being boyfriends as we have for them being on opposite ends of the war, aka none. Assuming that they're on opposite ends of the war assumes that Manannán gives a single flying fuck about the war in the first place.
Nodens is put alongside the Tuatha Dé.
Tumblr media
Is Danu. Any of these things. Is she? (This is after I had to remove a reference to Peter Beresford Ellis' bogus "creation myth.") The previous entry discussed her ambiguity as a figure/the very real possiblity that she was never WORSHIPPED as a deity.
Not shown: The entry on Cernunnos, which said he was worshipped in IRELAND.
The entry for Branwen, that claims that she's a Welsh love goddess (?) (There is not much love in her story.) (I would not even say there is much lust.)
Tumblr media
"Because he is a cunt."
(Is he unique? Is he really? Because there are a LOT of hot Fomoire when you think about it.) (Also...where is Elatha's sense of humor? It is non-existent.)
Tumblr media
Really. Is that why Conchobar does it? Is that really why he does it?
Tumblr media
Unless it is not out of character (otherwise there are a LOT of Out Of Character Conchobars) so much as a different writer (likely from Connacht) having a different take on a complex character with a complex legacy. (Who is established in the Táin as being pretty useless, tbh.) (Like, where are these "in character" Conchobars that you speak of?)
Tumblr media
...that. Is not. How you pronounce "Fionn" with that spelling. (It's "fee-on.")
Tumblr media
Is that what happened? I just, I just don't remember. My memory of Cath Maige Tuired is so weak that the bit where the TDD elected Bres for his beauty slipped my mind. Could anyone pull up that bit for me? Along with the bit where he helped the Fomoire invade Ireland while he was king? I just, I don't know, I'm new to this, and the language is so arcane, so obscure, I just don't remember it.

So why is Oz being given the excuse of "being 14" when he isn't but RWBY are being demonized despite being only a few years older and having endured massive trauma?
I don't think you're being very even-handed here.
Thing is, I'm not demonizing team RWBY. I 100% see where they're coming from and why they're so upset about being lied to.
And I'm not excusing Oz's actions, it's just not as simple as "Oz lied for no reason about something extremely important"
Thing is, Oz had JUST been betrayed by someone who he genuinely thought was a friend (Leo). He was much more guarded and closed off because of this, reasonably so, and likely took it harder because this isn't the first time he's been betrayed.
And before someone says "He should have told them from the beginning!"- Oz barely knows team RWBY/RNGR/JNPR. For the entirety of the very short time he's known them, he's been their adult teacher and mentor, as well as leader. He's only known them for maybe 2 years at most, and again, at least HALF of that was as their teacher/Headmaster. He likely hadn't interacted much with them during the Beacon Era either, given he was their Headmaster and thus was busy. So technically he's only known them on an 'even' level for maybe a few months by v6, and even then he was a mentor figure.
So, there was absolutely NO reason why Oz would've trusted team RWBY/JNPR with that kind of information. If he couldn't even trust his own friends with that information, why would he trust a bunch of teenagers he hardly knows??
And before anyone says that Oz should've told them because he 'dragged them into it', reminder that it was QROW that told ruby that their contacts thought something was going to happen in Mistral. Qrow was the one who told RNJR the basic rundown of the truth that he knew. And no, Oz admitting Ruby into Beacon early doesn't count because she was going into Beacon anyways.
Also about Oz technically being 14- he no longer has an adult body. His mind might be that of an adult, but he possesses an underdeveloped child (unwillingly). Oscar is his current host, and Oz possesses EVERY part of him, including his brain. Teenagers brains are underdeveloped in certain parts, which results in irrational decisions and emotional immaturity. It's likely why Oz hid himself away after being verbally and physically attacked and cornered.
I personally think Oz wouldn't have run away had Yang and Qrow not attacked him. This was the ONLY time we've so much as seen Oz visibly upset, especially upset enough to cry. His trauma was laid bare in front of him without his permission; it literally showed the death of his children and how he was an alcoholic for lifetimes afterwards.
And, for the record, I DO NOT BLAME RUBY for using Jinn to get answers. I see why she did so, and honestly I would've done the same thing. She had no idea WHAT Jinn was going to tell her, so I can't fault her for asking the question.
However, I do judge Yang and Qrow for how they treated Oz, and by extension, Oscar. Yang was extremely fast to get hostile (I don't blame her entirely for it), and Qrow full on punched a 14 year old boy in the face and never apologized for it (oscar visibly was in a lot of pain when Oz dipped). Yang has always been hostile towards Oz, even getting mad over him giving the branwen twins the ability to turn into birds (willingly on their part). Yang seemed to take the word of Raven with seemingly no issue despite her history (or lack thereof) with Raven when it comes to Oz.
Blake, really the only issue is that she didn't try defending Oz considering Salem and Adam are extremely similar characters.
Weiss only indirectly compared Oz to her dad, which... is still a little yikes, but I don't have an issue with her.
Again, I don't have an issue with Ruby either.
And, saying it again, I see WHY they were hurt by Oz lying/keeping the truth a secret. I'd be pissed too if someone I thought was a friend/mentor lied to me too.
I hope I got my thoughts on the subject across clearly. I highly doubt anyone will read this, let alone agree considering people have such a string hatred for Oz lol. But if you do read it, and at least consider my opinion, I'd be happy anyways even if I'm still disagreed with. 🤷‍♂️

So, the bird thing. Specifically Raven's reveal of the bird thing.
I've seen this ragged on a lot, like "Oh how terrible, Ozpin gave you the power to turn into a bird, what a horrible burden" and so on. But I think there's actually something really interesting the about how this choice, and choice in general, is framed by Raven vs. Qrow.
Like, Raven treats it as something done to them, whereas Qrow describes it as a choice they both made. But the context of all the information Ozpin was withholding seems important.
Raven tells Yang that Salem can't be stopped—I'd be willing to bet she already knew the terrible secret Qrow learned in Volume 6, that Salem literally can't die. So it kind of makes sense that Qrow, not knowing that, would see a choice, whereas Raven would consider that choice invalid. Being magic paints a target on both of them, and it was part of signing up for a war that they thought they could win.
I mean, obviously Raven is very biased and bitter towards Ozpin and that plays a role as well. But I think it was intentional that to Qrow, and most of the kids, this "horrible thing" Raven brought up doesn't seem that bad at all. It wasn't about the bird thing, it was about the secrets, and her bitterness makes no sense in the moment because we don't know the secrets yet. Raven is doing the same thing Jacques did in Volume 4, warning the audience about a well-liked character while also being such a dick about it that we don't want to listen lmao
Ozpin even gives them all a choice like two minutes after the bird talk: "The Branwens chose to accept their powers and the responsibilities that came with them. And later, one of them chose to abandon her duties in favor of her own self-interest. Now, all of you have a choice. If anyone wishes to leave, now is the time."
But like. Is now really the time Ozpin? They don't know the stakes yet! You're doing it again!
This is a bit of a habit for him, actually. He didn't warn Pyrrha about the immortal Grimm Goddess who'd be hunting her for the rest of her life when he was about to give her the Maiden Powers using the world's least ethical science machine, either.
Qrow even describes that whole mess the same way he does the birb thing: "We didn't force anything. We explained the situation and gave her the choice, and she chose. You were there, you heard her." BUT AGAIN. DID YOU THOUGH. DID YOU EXPLAIN THE SITUATION.
Not trying to say Ozpin is evil, either—he's just a very old man with trust issues big enough to smash a moon to bits, and he's had a long time to learn bad habits.
Also there's probably something in there about how he made a choice he now regrets because of something he didn't know at the time, and he can't take it back. "There's no shame or disgrace in abstaining, only in retreat." And like, what's the difference between those two things, really? Why should they all have to make a final decision about whether or not they're going to fight Salem... well, at all, really, but particularly right now when they don't have the full information?
But, you know. Ozpin could have abstained—but he can't retreat. He's stuck here! :D
So yeah. Birb thing is not Raven being angy because she got a superpower with no drawbacks. She's pissed off about secrets that we don't get context for until the next volume, and the illusion of choice. Because what's the point of Choice without Knowledge?

Here we go again Folks and today I'll be dissecting the popular topic of "Ruby isn't affected by anything across the volumes"
-I'm gonna be honest and say this claim is pretty much BS
Tumblr media
Volume 3
- Ruby falling to the ground in sadness after seeing Penny's Dismantled Body
> Was mortified by Pyrrha's Death at the hands of Cinder
Volume 4
In the DC Comics(which take place during the events of Vol 3-4)
Ruby showcases alot of uneasiness and self doubt
▪︎I.E being worried about how Yang felt back at the end of Volume 3
▪︎Believing that she herself can't go on without her team backing her up
▪︎Questioning if she can truly make the right choice
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"No One is truly alone".
"What you can do and Who you are-- These are Two very different things".
"No Person is Lesser for Being Alone,
You miss them but You aren't incomplete without them"
"They may bring Forth the Best in You
But the Best still Belongs to You".
- Episode 2 - Ruby is shown having Nightmares about the events of Volume 3
Vol 5
-After the battle with Tyrian, Ruby was upset that she indirectly got her uncle poisoned as well as not being so welcoming about team JNR joining her as the Problems got increasingly worses
"I should've never brought you guys into this"
Tumblr media
But the Most powerful scene in this Volume for Ruby is her talk with Oscar
Where she tells him that how distraught she felt about Pyrrha's and Penny's Deaths & wished she could've gotten to know them better
Proclaiming that if she were have died, Pyrrha and Penny would try to keep fighting no matter the obstacle
As she then says that moving forward is what she has to do in order to protect who she cherishes left
Which parallels Issue #6 of the Comics
"Even When it's Hard---
--Just Live".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Which leads to the 2nd Strongest scene for Volume 5 Ruby
Tumblr media
The Letter Scene
"Believe me when I say I know it can feel impossible. Like every single day is a struggle against some unstoppable monster we can never hope to beat. But we have to try…"
As Ruby is writing a letter to Yang about how although the World may seem bleak and while things may be painful in the long run, With the right people working together for a good cause can make an extraordinary change no matter how small it seems at first
Also Ruby LITERALLY TEARS UP DURING THIS SCENE
The Silver Eyes Activated after Ruby had a PTSD flashback of Pyrrha's Death when Jaune was going to clash with Cinder in the battle of Haven
■ Ruby was seen shocked by Weiss's fatal injury from Cinder's Spear strike
Volume 6
■ Felt a little Betrayed by Ozpin's Secret after Jinn revealed the Truth
■ Her Silver Eyes Activated When Blake was almost at death's door against the Apathy
■ Confronted Qrow about his lack of willingness to keep moving forward during "Lost" & "Stealing from the Elderly" Episode
Wanting him to view Team RJNR as people who can fight alongside him instead of just being a bunch of children who needs to be protected
"Just because you don't have an idea, doesn't mean we're out of options! Oz hasn't been here to tell us what to do, but we still managed to get this far anyway. We've been in bad situations before, and we don't need an adult to come save us or tell us what to do. We just did it our way! And I say we do it our way. And if you think you can keep up with us "kids"... we'd be happy to have you"
"We're all in this together, and we're all going to do the best we can. That's all anyone can do. And I know it's what you've always aimed for. We would've come whether or not you'd let us, so stop talking like we're your responsibility! We're not! But we could still use Qrow Branwen on our side"
Volume 7-8
■ Immediately felt guilty about lying to Ironwood about the Other stuff that happen with Ozpin
■ During Her Talk with Qrow, She even questions if she even knows what she has been doing was the correct decision
■ Ruby pleads Harriet in the "Ace Ops vs Team Rwby" to stand down and join her team in saving the citizens
■ Stood in Confusion and shock after witnessing a Silver Eyed Grimm Hybrid
■ in Volume 8 Finale,
Ruby is seen shedding a tear during her fight with Neo(Supposedly as a result of Yang's death)
---> in the Vol 9 sneak peek it showcases Ruby's POV where she was having constant anxiety attacks throughout the fight against Cinder
And in the Volume 9 Chapter 1 Sneak Peek Clip
Ruby breaks down and Cries to herself reflecting upon the events that have transpired
So Yeah I think this pretty much sums up how much these events have had an Impact on Ruby's emotions
(She ain't just Happy all the time and Ignores all the tragedy, if anything she tries using it as a Coping Mechanism of some sort in order to move forward & keep her mind away from the Darkness)
Hope yall Enjoy

Hello, this is a long ask about RWBY. I asked someone else about this too but I wanted to gain more insights.
Do you think that Yang's and the Branwen Twins writing is lacking in some parts?
Magic is considered to be a heritable trait in Remnant, so why does Yang show no signs of shapeshifting? (Unless it's a mistake done by the creators since Yang and Raven were supposed to be in some scenes back in Volume 2 and 3)
Raven and Qrow both shed feathers after transforming into a bird/back into human, would it a stretch for people to think that they are faunuses since they don't know about magic?
Raven is a possibly well known bandit considering that she used to be in Team STRQ who were given media coverage during the time they participated in the Vytal Tournaments and Raven is wearing a grimm mask which the general public associates with the White Fang. Shouldn't the residents of Patch/Mistral be more wary about Yang considering her heritage and her action's in the tournament?
What about Yang's writing in Volume 4? CRWBY didn't show us the ugly sides of it since they didn't want to show the audience about Yang "moping" around and when they showed us Taiyang being a "good" father, the message didn't come across as good (especially with the not every semblance is basically a temper tantrum, and the lost some braincells with her arm). Also shouldn't Yang also have some PTSD about her incident when she almost got herself and Ruby killed?
Yang and the Twins story are very interesting to me, but I don't think that Roosterteeth is using their full potential like Adam Taurus. It would actually be interesting if Yang played both sides to found out what happened to Summer Rose, it would be interesting if we are shown the effects of what happened after Yang almost got herself and Ruby killed.
I'm sorry that I rambled a lot to you, I could have said more but I can't articulate my thoughts properly. I just want every character in the series to get the same treatment as Oscar, Ruby, Jaune, Weiss, Salem, Cinder, and Ironwood since their writing/characterization is well done (even though it also has some mistakes, but nothing is perfect) compared to the others.
Thank you for seeing my long ask, and I hope that I don't overwhelm you or annoy you by this. Good day.
Hi!! Don't worry, I'm not annoyed! I 'll answer each of your points, but my answer is honestly for the large part that I don't think they're lacking.
The turn-into-birds thing isn't entirely explained, but it's clearly not a faunus thing. It's also definitely not a hereditary thing, and this is directly stated in the show. Why people don't think this I'll get into in a bit, but first:
Volume 5 has Raven, Ozpin, and Qrow all state that Ozpin gave them that power through magic, and that it was wrong to do so. Raven clearly views it as a violation, and when she proves it to Weiss and Yang and they in turn tell the rest of the crew, everyone is disturbed and upset. Why it is so disturbing and upset I don't quite understand honestly (seems a little disproportionate?), but the implication is that Ozpin misused magic to do that to them. It may be further elaborated on.
Why everyone instantly knows it's not a faunus or hereditary thing is because faunus are people with animal characteristics. That is clearly very, very different from literally transforming from a person into an animal. I don't think it's strange that people don't notice--plus, a lot of people don't know that Raven and Qrow can do this, nor really do Raven and Qrow want them to know.
I don't think many people know Yang's heritage (I don't think Team STRQ is known very well outside of certain communities of hunters--think about how the kids don't know Jaune's heritage even though it's also pretty substantial usually). I think the implication on the show is actually pretty consistent and normal--yeah, people in cities and places that pay attention are very in tune to what happened in Beacon, but the majority of people especially in rural areas don't give a damn or don't pay that much attention. Yang probably had notoriety among other academies for a bit (but that also probably changed when it was revealed her opponent was one of the enemies). But that doesn't equate to the general public being intimately aware. This is actaully highly realistic, imo.
I cannot disagree more with the portrayal of Yang in Volume 4, though I do agree that Tai wasn't always framed well. I wrote a whole meta on Yang and PTSD actually!
I also do think that Yang shows trauma from the time she almost got herself and Ruby killed. (That also said, not everyone responds to each trauma in the exact same way!) Yang's entire arc is about finding balance. She's been kind of a maternal figure to Ruby her whole life, and struggles with that. When she refuses to accompany Ruby to Mistral at first, Yang feels incredibly guilty (even disproportionally so) because she's seeing it as Raven abandoning her (hence, the symbolism of Yang going to Raven to get to Ruby). I do think this has been fully explored as it should be up until this point, honestly, though I also expect Raven to come back at some point (likely to die saving Yang--which may give final closure for that incident).
Thank you for the ask!

Year of STRQ: Soap
“What did you do?” Summer demanded as she stared at the chaos. Bubbles were overflowing from the washer. “I don’t know!” Raven growled. “I did what the pictures showed!” Summer sighed as she waded in to turn off the machine. She wished the Branwens would just admit they needed help.

Something I still find utterly hilarious is that Qrow didn't just... call Ironwood when they got to Atlas? Weiss has Winter's number, Jaune somehow had Glynda's. I mean, implicitly, they were in a Council meeting when the group first got there but it wasn't thought to have him try? "You don't have the General's number?" "Ruby, I don't have YOUR number, okay?" Just a funny thought.
Okay, so the order of events are basically as follows:
The group notices how bad Mantle looks and wants to know what’s going on. Jaune says that since they’ve succeeded in getting the Lamp to Atlas, all they can do now is land and get some answers.
Weiss notices that the fleet has been deployed “aggressively” and that, having come in on a stolen ship, they won’t get “anywhere near” Ironwood. She decides to call Winter instead.
Ruby notes that Ironwood looks “tired” and that instantly morphs into the whole group distrusting him.
Weiss still pushes for calling Winter because she can get them to Ironwood, until Blake points out that Winter is also giving a broadcast and everyone decides she’s untrustworthy too. They decide to “buy some time” by landing in Mantle.
Reasons why this is all painfully ridiculous:
Weiss just left Atlas. She grew up here and knows the sort of class disparity that’s plaguing the kingdom. Everyone else knows that this embargo has been put in place and is causing friction, combined with the attack on Beacon freaking the whole world out, yet everyone acts as if seeing Mantle as anything other than a utopia is shocking.
“Tired” somehow became shorthand for “no longer trustworthy,” despite this team trying desperately to go to Ironwood this whole time.
Qrow has already sent a letter to Ironwood telling him they’re on their way and, far as they know, Cordovin radioed ahead to say, “Hey, I just let someone across the border!” They don’t even know if this ship is still registered as stolen since Cordovin explicitly let them come here.
How exactly do they expect to find out what’s “really” going on while running from the Atlas military? Oh wait, they’re almost immediately arrested. The big plan before this was to go to Pietro, someone who Maria  — visiting him every few years for an eye tune-up  — has no reason to believe wouldn’t be loyal to his boss. Either that, or Pietro doesn’t know anything other than rumors, no more useful than grabbing a random civilian off the street and asking them what they think is going on (despite the group knowing Ironwood has secrets like Salem to juggle that literally no one else will be privy to). What were they planning to do, keep hiding out from Ironwood indefinitely despite needing to speak with Ironwood to find out what’s happening?
Weiss decides not to trust her sister anymore because she’s working with/supporting Ironwood... even though she knows Winter is Ironwood’s right-hand huntress, like... why is seeing her up there shocking??
I wish RWBY’s problems were as simple as “They could have just called Ironwood!” Instead it’s like, “They told Ironwood they were coming, stole an airship, then were given permission to take the airship, were very explicitly trying to get to Ironwood, then decided to abandon that volume-long plan because they saw him making a stern announcement, decide to call Winter instead because since they don’t want see Ironwood they should TOTALLY have Winter take them to Ironwood, then decide not to trust Winter either because she’s also making a stern announcement, so they follow Maria to Ironwood’s scientist who oh-so-helpfully agrees that things are #bad, and would have done who knows what after that if they weren’t arrested by Ironwood... and then immediately released! Because Ironwood wasn’t the scary dictator they suddenly decided he was. Before he was turned into that anyway.” When I say re-watching Volume 7 is a mess...
All that being said, Qrow Disaster Branwen definitely doesn’t have his nieces’ numbers and that is hilarious lol

You're actually fucking stupid dude. Your race argument is hinged on 3d models of which their race is ambiguous through facial features and the only way to determine a character's race is through their skin color, name, and attire. Please give definitive proof that Raven and Qrow are white. No. The wiki doesn't count because they're written by fans. No. Their names don't count because people who decent from Asia can have names that don't fit in with their culture just by being apart of a melting pot which the Branwen tribe very well could be. (Would also like to make note that it's not abnormal for American born minorities to be given American names. I went to school with a Japanese student named Chad. This further goes to show that names don't always equal race. Qrow and Raven were born into the tribe and likely were named after the tribe). Rin is very clearly Asian coded all the way down from his home orgins to his way of dress. You want to say that Yang is clearly Chinese coded based on her name, great. Rin fits that bill too, and where does he originate from? A small village in Mistral. Haven academy it self is inspired by Asian architecture about like how Rins village is, and is even having name that is reminiscent of Japanese language. There's a scene in in Vol. 5 where there are a gay pair in the background who are sporting Asian culture inspired outfits and are holding a heart shaped bamboo plant for fucks sake. Vol. 6 after Raven defeats her and she crawls out of her little hole, Cinder murder's a woman drawing yet again, clothing inspired by Asian culture, and even ends up stealing the clothes for herself to hide her identity. You're genuinely stupid for trying to pretend that Mistral it's self let alone Rin aren't inspired by Asian culture, and you're even dumber for thinking you could try to apply races to fucking anime characters in a fictional world where you have to rely on elements added to the geography of the location in order to get a hint of what the location is inspired from before even going into their race. Like shit. If this is your logic then literally everyone in the show is white with the exception of those with a different skin color entirely. Yeah. Yang? By your logic, if Rin is white, fucking Yang is too.
