just some rambly unedited thoughts about captain of the guard yeonjun x nobility reader (angsty but with a happy ending):

captain of the guard yeonjun who is assigned to take care of you, the child of wealthy nobles; your parents give you no freedom and only care about marrying you off to another wealthy family to preserve their pride

you resent him at first because you think he's trying to control you just like your parents, and he keep trying to talk to you and ask about your favorite things; you say nothing because you think he'll tattle on you but really he just wants you to feel more comfortable around him

you learn to trust him after you run away from yet another ball that your parents have forced you to attend, and yeonjun to your surprise doesn't report you to your parents or send you back. instead you sit with him on an outside bench and talk and laugh and it feels like the first time you get to breathe

yeonjun letting you open up to him more and more after that, and you doing so. he's considerate and sweet, he remembers all the little things about you, and sure he makes terrible puns but you laugh at them anyway. you tell him about your favorite books and all the places in the world you want to travel to and he wishes he could take you there

you feel safest when you're around him not because he's guarding you, but because you can be yourself around him. before you know it you've fallen in love with him

and all that comes crashing down when your parents arrange a marriage with a horrible, manipulative noble behind your back. that night you cry in your room and yeonjun, who is supposed to be outside guarding the house, overhears and rushes to hold you. you tell him everything and he swears that he'll do everything to stop your marriage

you kiss him that night and it's the first moment of bliss you've felt in a long time.

the two of you plan to elope behind your parents' back, all while they think you're going along with the marriage they set up. the night before your wedding you sneak out of the house and escape, taking nothing but a few things with you, and the whole time you're terrified that you'll be caught and sent back. and even though yeonjun tries to be brave for you, when you hold his hand you feel it trembling and you realize that he's just as scared as you

I’m finally biting the bullet and contacting a therapist today after being ambivalent ab it for so long… this hellsite has its many disadvantages but one thing I can say is it has truly helped me be less scared of pursuing therapy. Silver lining etc etc

Obvi a therapist is literally paid to listen so no guilt there #And I think that’s what I need #I’m not like on the brink of a psychotic break or anything but it’s just little things. I think it’d be nice to sit in someone’s office for #One hour a week and just go. That did bother me actually. I am tired actually. im thinking about sydney and harper's relationship and how its been outright confirmed by purityguy that syd stayed at the asylum at some point, which is the reason they're so "pure" at first meeting while missing quite a bit of their memories

sydney also knows harper, it's safe to assume this is from the asylum times, but we don't know the extent of what happened between them.

and i want to assume it's because of harper doing their ... harpering, but also: how long ago was this exactly? because ultimately.. harper isn't that much older than the pc, and by extension, sydney.

what exactly got harper sent to the asylum in the first place and how long ago was that? was harper always like that, or was it a gradual change, a weird evolution of sorts from being in the asylum for so long? how old was harper when they transitioned from a patient to a doctor? was harper still just a regular patient when sydney was admitted? were they already a doctor by then?

there's so many variables, which leaves so much room for theories!! and i love cooking my own food!! me personally?? i like the idea that harper wasn't quite a 'proper doctor' yet when sydney was admitted.

Ik the internet has collectively decided liking Hamilton is cringe bc ppl were writing real person fic, making founding father self inserts, and because anything that gets a big enough following must be mercilessly shunned after 6-12 months but like, I got surprise tickets to a matinee today as a bday gift and it really IS that good?

Like. I'm not USamerican. I'm not sitting here like "oh yes this is absolutely historically accurate and this is how everything went down and how these ppl were irl". Its a story. A historical adaptation. But it's a Damn Good Story. It's thematically compelling. It's emotionally resonant. It's about hunger and imagining death and ambition, about that desperation that drives you towards elusive satisfaction, about legacy and memory and the construction and telling of narratives, it's about UNEARNED GRACE and impossible forgiveness.

Like it really IS a good story, and as someone who only know these people as /characters/ and not historical figures, they're compelling characters? Their arcs are interesting? Hamilton and Burr as foils is so good? Washington as a model of leadership and of regret? Of legacy earned and unearned? ELIZA??MY EVERYTHING?? She's not a "main" character but the narrative hinges on her, when Hamilton is stripped bare of his ambition he thinks of her. She controls and saves the narrative, ultimately. It comes down to Eliza as the centre of it all, best of wives and best of women truly.

The music is a bop, the choreography fun, the set design simple but effective. Like? I get things that have a massive teen fandom can be annoying, and taking it as Historical Fact would be stupid. But as a story???? It really is that good?

Also we had an understudy as Hamilton and he was v young with such a soft higher voice and it REALLY worked esp in act 1 with the whole young scrappy hungry thing. He was also shorter than Eliza which imo. Perfect. Tiny man among a cast of largely very tall men and a few very tall women.
