Lena's death in Grip of the Shadow Plague is even more brutal when you consider the fact that in the past, she and Patton just had a huge fight and the last time he saw Lena from his timeline he left things on a bad note; the added fact that Lena in the future looks exactly the same as Lena from the past so there's very little degree of separation there for Patton; and finally when you think of how Lena told him the fight they had was the last time she could remember him ever raising his voice at her. And then consider a Patton who has gone forward in time and witnessed his uncle's mistake (from a situation canonically compared to his and Lena's) come back in such a disastrous way, a Patton who has watched Lena die in front of him, a Patton who has come back and knows exactly what will happen to her in the future, trying to reconcile all that with a life where they had a huge fight over something like fucking drapes. No matter how much and how well he loves her, he will always know how she's going to die. She's been dead since the beginning...You know! It recontextualizes shit man. I'm sad.
