tom holland x reader
summary: rumors fly during an interview leading to a shock announcement for tom and his girlfriend
a/n: inspired by a tiktok i saw months ago and have not stopped thinking abt since i literally could not think of one panel-type event that wasnt comic-con i am so sorry flsjsjksjs
・°☆.。.:・°☆.。.:・°☆
Tom shifts in his seat, running one hand through his curls as he tries to keep his face animated and stop his eyes glazing over. he's been sat on a vaguely uncomfortable chair for the last hour or so at Comic-Con, promoting his latest movie and as much as he loves his job and the fans, all he wants to do is crawl into bed and curl up next to you for a good twelve hours.
"Tom?" prompts the interviewer.
"I- I'm so sorry, what was your question?" he asks, flushing in embarrassment at being caught zoning out.
"Is Y/N here today?" repeats the interviewer patiently.
Tom grins at the mention of your name and he sits up taller, eyes scanning the crows until he finds you, hoodie pulled up over your head to hide from eagle-eyed fans.
"She is, yeah. I basically dragged her here so we could kind of spend time together, as an apology." he admits.
"An apology?" the interviewer says. "What did you do, Tom?"
"Yeah, what did you do, Tom?" echoes one of his co-stars, laughing.
"I fell asleep during our movie date." Tom admits sheepishly, shaking his head at the roar of laughter from the crowd. "Twenty minutes in, I was out cold."
"You didn't!" laughs the interviewer. "What did she do?"
"She was the absolute best, of course. She just held me and stroked my hair and wrapped me up in a blanket and then stayed on the sofa with me all night." he says, eyes crinkling at the general "awww" from the crowd.
The interviewer's eyes glint mischievously as Tom tells his story, clearly sensing a way to divert the interview to The Good Stuff™.
"So speaking of Y/N, there's been a lot of talk about you two online recently." he starts. "Specifically, engagement rumors? Is there any basis, any truth to these rumors?"
Tom shifts around as he stalls for time until he can meet your eyes in the crowd, raising his fluffy eyebrow ever so slightly to silently ask if you're okay with him talking about your relationship. You give him a tiny nod, encouraging him to go on.
"No, we're not engaged." he says. "But we've honestly never been happier than we are right now. She's so creative, and caring, and funny, and gorgeous. There's no one else I'd rather spend my life with."
You can't help but feel slightly choked up as he gushes, resisting the urge to throw off your hoodie and run up to the stage, crushing him into a bear hug and never letting go.
"WHEN ARE YOU PROPOSING?!" yells a particularly enthusiastic fan, rousing cheers from the rest of the crowd and the cast members on stage.
Tom laughs as he winks at you again.
"When I'm sure she'll say yes."
This, of course, results in almost hysterical screams (affectionate).
You pull your phone from your pocket, tapping on Tom's contact and typing out a message. He's watching you of course, so when he feels his phone buzz in his pocket he pulls it out, cheering like an excited seven year old, "I got a text! From Y/N!"
Y/N 💗: i'd marry you in a heartbeat baby <3
He blows a kiss in your direction, grinning from ear to ear. As he's distracted, gazing at you lovingly, a co-star leans over his shoulder and reads the text.
"Holy shit!" they laugh. "Did Tom Holland just get engaged?"
The screams reach an all-time record and you wince slightly, bringing a hand up to your ringing ear. Tom snatches his phone closer, rolling his eyes.
"Hold your horses!" he laughs. "Let me check."
He balances the microphone in his left hand as he types out a quick message.
tommy 🤠: Did we just get engaged??
Y/N 💗: we will be when you give me that rock hidden at the back of your sock drawer 😳
Tom's soft brown eyes crinkle around the edges as he grins all but leaps up from his chair.
"Is this interview wrapping up soon?" He asks cheekily. "I've got to go get engaged."

Eagles - Revisited
(a train journey across Canada in the months before the pandemic)
For Maria
“I reckon they’re eagles!” That’s Tim. He’s excited. The dining car is full of people and it’s loud. For some reason, if you put a lot of humans into a confined space they will yell at each other. Around our table there’s Tim, he’s a retired London detective, there’s a teacher from Newfoundland, an Australian and me. We’re somewhere in the Rockies of Canada and Tim thinks he sees eagles. Tim also thinks I ‘know things’, so I’m not totally convinced he’s seen eagles.
“Where?” That’s the Australian. Her accent is a brutal drawl, like the sawing of a blunt serrated knife across the back of the hand.
“There! They’re big birds.” He’s pointing, very excited now.
I can’t see anything but I decide I need to contribute something anyway, “But are they real?”
Retired London detectives don’t much care for nonsense.
“Of course they are!” Tim snaps back at me.
Perhaps coming to my defence, the Australian decides to take him down.
“They’re not eagles … I reckon they’re crows.”
Tim’s hurt “They are!” The level of his indignation easily exceeds the pointlessness of the conversation and so the farce begins.
I tune out. A mind is a wonderful place if you can tame it … but good luck with that.
Suddenly I’m brought back – “He ‘knows things’ you know.” Tim’s making a public declaration and all eyes are on me.
“Whadda ya mean?” The Australian is sceptical.
“He ‘knows things’ I tell you!” Tim is my biggest supporter.
“Like what?” The Australian picks up the scent.
Now Tim has to prove I ‘know things’ … I hope it doesn’t go to a Senate Committee.
“Well, he knew how old I was.”
It’s true.  Tim had asked me, “How old do you think I am?”
I didn’t hesitate - “71.” My immediate reply stunned him.
“How did you know that?”
“I just do.”
Magicians don’t show their audience the secrets of their tricks, do they? But okay, in a previous conversation Tim had told me the year he’d joined the ‘force’ and I had then enquired about his age on joining … mathematics is also a wonderful thing.
But the Australian isn’t going to accept this flimsy story as evidence of my “knowing things”. She wants more proof. I expected that. Their entire culture was built on a challenge to authority. So perhaps I do ‘know things’ after all.
“Okay, whadda ‘bout this?” the Australian begins. Now it’s the big test for me. I’m feeling fit, I’ve been in training for months and my fighting weight is perfect.
The Australian continues “We were at a talk last night, in the observation car, about agriculture in Alberta.”
Tim nods “It was good.” I love his optimism.
“You weren’t there were you?” The Australian would have done well during the McCarthy era communist ‘witch hunts’ of the 1950’s.
“No.” I almost laugh. Of course not, I was someplace else on the train, enjoying my somewhat tamed mind.
“Okay then, tell us … how much do you think a combined harvester costs?”
I don’t hesitate “Between $400,000 and $500,000.”
The look of disappointment on the Australian’s face is kind of funny. Tim, on the other hand, is gleeful to be proven right after suffering such a bad loss over the eagles.
“See, I told you!”
The Australian narrows her eyes. She smells a rat. “You were there weren’t you?”
“He wasn’t!” That’s Tim, he’s still my biggest supporter.
“No, I wasn’t there.” I confirm.
“Tell him!” Tim is going in for the kill.
“$450,000 ...” Her voice trails off. The Australian doesn’t like being wrong.
So the wonders appear to continue but there’s no mystery here either. I live in a rural community and I have an inquisitive mind. One day I had asked myself “I wonder what a combined harvester costs?” You’ve probably asked yourself the same question at one time or another.
For the rest of the journey I wear the aura of a man who ‘knows things’. It’s an enigmatic position to take in life. In part, you are ‘messiah’. You walk the corridors of the train surrounded by a spectral glow, robes flowing, your hands outstretched offering benedictions and people whisper “he ‘knows things’ you know.” On the other hand, being ‘messianic’ is a lonely business but I don’t mind, I have my somewhat tamed mind for company.
Of course I made the ‘messiah’ bit up. I have a wish that life could be just a little more absurd than it already is. In truth, only Tim thinks I know things. The Australian thinks she’s been tricked and everyone else on the train couldn’t care less, which is how I like it.
Later … days later our train pulls into Toronto. My hotel is only 100 metres from the station so I linger in the compartment, packing, dreaming.
When I finally get to the baggage carousel I’m surprised to see Tim. He has his back to me. There is a younger man with him and they have the body language of two people who know each other well. Both are English and it’s obvious the younger guy was also on the train, judging by the baggage labels on his luggage. But this is the first time I’ve seen them together, which I find strange.
Then Tim reacts. I presume the hairs on the back of his neck have suddenly stood on end because he turns. Maybe that’s how he became a detective in the first place – he has good instincts.
Tim recognizes me and completely fails to disguise the look of alarm in his eyes.
There’s something about the younger man … and then comes that feeling, like the fitting of the final piece in a jigsaw, and I understand.
We all have things we feel we need to hide. Mostly the world isn’t looking but if you happen to end up on a train with someone who ‘knows things’, it’s very hard to escape the truth … some people just ‘know things’.
Tim hurriedly looks away.
I’m sorry to have unsettled him and all I really want to say now is “Tim, eagles are real”.

Races of Daibolik Lovers
Tumblr media
Demons World's Hierarchy
Highest<————In order from ————>lowest
Superior Demon Races: Ancestor, Vampire (Bat), Vibora (Snake), Wolves (Wolf) and Adler (Eagle).
Inferior Demon Races: Ghoul (Crow), and other numerous different inferior races not named.
Note
Please note that things they are able to do with their natural abilities and magic are two different things.
Also before you say it, witches are not a race and as far as I am aware are not mentioned.
Tumblr media
Ancestors (Originators, Founders, or First Blood Clan):
Intro -
They are the ancestor race of all the demon kinds in the Demon World.
Though they don’t directly rule over the other races, as they have their own kings/queens, they are the highest in social hierarchy, giving them some power over others.
Abilities -
Possessing all the basic racial skills of the four superior demonic sub-races (Vampire, Vibora, Wolves and Adler), but they don't possess their weaknesses.
-Transform into bats, snakes, wolves, and eagles.
-Summon familiar’s(bats, snakes, wolves, and Eagles)
-High strength, smell, hearing, speed, and regenerative abilities.
-Teleportation
-“Read” consciousness/thoughts through mementos/objects
In the general prologue of Dark Fate, this is how Carla and Shin find Lord Burais Castle through “reading” Menaes thoughts connected to her pendant, in search of her after her death.
-Highest Magic Ability
Weaknesses -
-Decapitation is the only way to kill them, however, if their body is too damaged to heal fast enough, it can be life-threatening, even if not directly.
-All Abilities are weakened during a Full Moon
-They are susceptible to Endzit
Endzit is a sickness that only First Bloods can get but Karlheinz fears it may spread in the future to other races.
Food Source -
No direct information is stated but judging from their descendants it’s assumed that Blood can nourish them. Note that this is not definite.
And though there is no evidence that it’s beneficial, it’s shown that they can enjoy eating human food.
Cultural Traditions -
In BLOODY BOUQUET Drama CD "The Secret Behind a Demon World's Wedding Reception ~Vampires' Hospitality~", they reveal wedding/celebration traditions of the First Bloods.
-Weddings lasts three days and three nights in total
-They congratulate the bride and groom through a ‘never-ending’ banquet
-During those three days and nights, one must never have an empty plate. Once something has been eaten, it will immediately be replaced by a fresh batch
-Though the banquet itself does end after three days it is meant to symbolize that the marriage itself is a “never ending” celebration of the persons bond.
-One of their traditional dishes is called the Founder’s special ‘Four Species Pudding’. They mince and combine wolf, snake, eagle and bat meat, bake it all together, then pour a special sauce on top. It signifies the eternal bond with those four bloodlines.
Other -
-All Abilities are Heighten During a Lunar Eclipse
Vampires (Bat clan):
Intro -
One of the four sub-races under the Ancestors, and second in the social hierarchy of the demon world.
Abilities -
-High strength, speed, regenerative abilities, increased vision, sense of smell, and hearing
-Transform into bats
-Teleportation
-Summon familiar’s(bats)
-Average to High magic ability
Weaknesses -
-Pureblood vampires can only die by having their heads cut off, however, if their body is too damaged to heal fast enough, it can be life-threatening, even if not directly.
-Silver
-Their vision diminishes in sunlight
-All powers are weakened during a lunar eclipse
Food Source -
They can eat human food, but it doesn't nourish them; blood is their main source of food.
And though it is stated that it is not beneficial for them to, it’s shown that they can enjoy eating human food.
Other -
- During a full moon, pureblood vampires can fly
Impure Vampires (Bat clan):
Intro -
Impure vampires are similar to pureblood vampires, except that they were turned, meaning they weren't born as a vampire.
Abilities -
-High strength, speed, and regenerative abilities, increased vision, smell and hearing(not to the same degree as a pureblood vampire)
-Teleportation
Weakness -
-While they do have some of the same abilities are pure blood vampires they do not have them to the same degree making them weaker
-They have no ability for magic
Karlheinz grants some to the Mukamis, such as protective barrier and bat familiars.
-They cannot summon/control familiars
-Silver
Food source -
All human food nourishes them, but blood is still their main food source.
Other -
-During a full moon, pureblood vampires can fly
-Unlike the pureblood vampires, they see perfectly in the sunlight.
Vibora (Snake clan):
Intro -
N/A
Abilities-
-Transform into snakes
Weaknesses -
N/A
Food source -
N/A
Other -
There isn't much known about this race, but we do know that they were allies of the vampire race.
Wolves (Wolf clan)
*No information yet*
Adler (Eagle clan)
*No information yet*
Ghouls (Crow clan):
Intro -
Ghouls are humans that have stayed in the demon world for to long, or they are the children of two humans that are already ghouls. Ghouls are compared to humans and used as slaves by other demons races (Ancestor, Vampire, Vibora, Wolves and Adler).
Abilities -
-Transform into crows
-They possess no ability for magic
Weaknesses -
N/A
Food sources -
N/A
Other -
-They have a vary long life span (it is unknown if they are immortal).
-Ghouls are humans that have stayed in the demon world for to long, more specifically have breathed in Miasma for to long. Ghouls can also have ghoul children.
-In the manga Younge Blood, it’s hinted that ghouls are prone to going “feral”. Where they are overwhelmed by bloodlust, hunting for higher rank demons to kill, and eating there flesh. In hopes of gaining their magic ability.
-One clear physical attributes of a ghoul is black Sclera.
Note: All races suck blood, but only for the vampires is blood the main source of food.
Trivia:
-Vibora in Spanish (vìbora) means viper; Adler in German means eagle.
-All demons race are inspired by animals, except for the ancestors (because they are all demons races in one being).
-In official websites the Tsukinami and Kino are intentionally wrongly classified as "vampires" to avoid spoilers (Tsukinami are ancestors and Kino is an unknown race).

Hello everyone do we like my fish. Fondly mentally referring to him as my “Noooo don’t kill yourself your so sexy aha” salmon . My papa got so worried about me that he called my tattoo artist and asked for her to give him his first one in fifty-five years so we could have ones from the same person at the same time . I am kept busy with projects in the shop and planting flowers and meeting for coffee . Every night my friend takes me out on his harley to see the sunset and i can feel my heart beating. Im going to repair my uncle’s shitty little sailboat this week. I find a rock to watch the eagles & the crows & the seals in the harbour. I got to come home right when the dogwood & the cherry trees & the magnolias were blooming. My hands are busy and i try to keep my head there too. I’m sure there is so much i’m forgetting. Life is so hard but i am so loved by so many good people and so lucky that i can come home for a rest when i need to feel like a real person again. I will always have this soft place to land when people make me bleed metaphorically and literally. My world is so big that i don’t think anything could be the end of it but i am not sure yet. I am so sad but there has to be a word better than blessed for what else i am. I don’t know what the future holds. Ok love you all just wanted to let everyone know i am alive if not entirely well peace and light

- Meaning of Spirit Animal, The Peacock
From the story of ‘Juno and the peacock’
The peacock came to see Juno, because he could not accept with equanimity the fact that the goddess had not given him the song of the nightingale. The peacock complained that the nightingale's song was wondrously beautiful to every ear, while he was laughed at by everyone as soon as he made the slightest sound. Juno then consoled the peacock and said, 'You are superior in beauty and superior in size; there is an emerald splendour that shines about your neck, and your tail is a fan filled with jewels and painted feathers.' The peacock protested, 'What is the point of this silent beauty, if I am defeated by the sound of my own voice?' 'Your lot in life has been assigned by the decision of the Fates,' said Juno. 'You have been allotted beauty; the eagle, strength; the nightingale, harmony; the raven has been assigned prophetic signs, while unfavourable omens are assigned to the crow; and so each is content with his own particular gift.'
Do not strive for something that was not given to you, lest your disappointed expectations become mired in discontent.
[Juno was an ancient Roman goddess, the protector and special counsellor of the state. She was equated to Hera, queen of the gods in Greek mythology. Her sacred animal was the peacock. Image above by Indigodeep]
The Peacock symbolism is here to remind that nothing, including beauty, should be taken too seriously. Furthermore, this will help you stay centered on what “is” and allow you to be grateful for what you have. Thus, the Peacock meaning reminds you to have a light-hearted approach to all things that come our way. Moreover, this spirit animal teaches that laughter is the best medicine to keep us healthy and happy. Alternatively, the Peacock symbolism could be letting you know that now is the time to acknowledge your dreams and aspirations within yourself. Use this bird’s gifts to bring you confidence, stature, and a sense of accomplishment in all the things around you and all your current projects.

👀👀 I'm curious about the costuming in not me?
(cracking knuckles) let's get into it.
So the main thing I learned in college is:
Costuming is Storytelling.
Costumes should blend into the character themselves, creating a story of where this person has been and where they are going and should be coherent with the directing and acting choices. They should be invisible.
Unless the script specifically uses costumes as symbolic pieces.
The most obvious example of this in Not Me the Series are the button scenes:
Tumblr media
I actually used a somewhat similar device in a show I designed so when I saw these I said OH BITCH so we're using SYMBOLS HUH
These are not only important because they're a part of each other's costumes, but because they're part of each other's ARMOR.
Why armor?
Obviously the costumes in Not Me pull very heavily from classic street punk style. And the first rule of punk style is that your vest is your battle gear. It's what you go to protests in, it's a declaration of war, it's a billboard of all you fight for and exactly who you fight against. That's where they get Black's forever vest right:
Tumblr media
I'm weird. I'm a weirdo. You ever see me without this stupid vest on?
But it's boring. It's uninspired. No patches, no paint, NOTHING. It doesn't tell a story. It's a bland facade of what he's supposed to represent. Now this scene:
Tumblr media
Look at the colors!! The DIY portions! THE PAINTED DENIM! A lot more distressing and customizing went into these pieces, and it goes a long way to humanizing their characters in this moment.
So now we've established that the costumes in Not Me are supposed to be symbols, and we're not supposed to take things at face value. So let's talk about Him...
Tumblr media
I'm weird. I'm a weirdo. You ever see me without this stupid shirt...
Obviously Yok is a walking billboard for Boy Who Dreams of a Life Bigger Than This.
I LOVE his tattoos, even if they're repetitive (crows and also the kanji for crow is a little overkill my man)
Tumblr media
They're a one for one symbol of his hunger for freedom.
Which is why I HATE Black's tattoo.
Tumblr media
What even is that. It's so boring. I'm fully aware that blackwork bars often have symbology attached to them, but the usual meanings make no sense for him to me. Also we couldn't get that bar around his whole arm? Even just a few more inches? For me?
All in all, I am both impressed and confused by the costuming in this show. Why are side characters so richly symbolic, but the main characters are like blank slates? Why use an eagle button when birds are so obviously associated with Yok, not Sean? Why is the BEAUTIFUL street art in this show not also reflected in the clothing? Why doesn't Sean have a back patch done up by Namo?
What I will stand by, and what I will defend to the death in this and any other show is
Limited. Wardrobe.
These people are poor, literally on the run from the law, and living in a car garage or a run down apartment. When I say your battle vest is your battle vest, it's your ONE. You do not lose it, you do not let anyone touch it or borrow it or take it.
(I used to sew patches on vests for biker gangs at my old job and they would refuse to leave the shop while I worked. But that's a whole other storytime)
So when Sean and White exchange buttons, they're exchanged pieces that have never EVER left their person. These are pieces of their souls.
(White might not have gotten it in the moment, but Sean certainly did.)
I've rambled enough, and I hope anyone else found this interesting. Sorry for the essay reply, but i did warn you in those tags 😆 If yall want me to do a silly little analysis of any other BL, let me know 😊 I love crossing my interests.
😘

Aight, aight, here's what birds I think the friend group would compare Birdy to + a lil conversational banter. oops this was longer than I thought it would be (but hopefully funny)
So, the gals + Eugene are in the quad, chatting about nothing in particular while eating, when Birdy steals one of Bianca's fries.
Bianca, irritated: Stop acting like a seagull Yoko: Yeah, you're normally more of an owl Divina: What? Aren't owls associated with wisdom? That doesn't sound like our Birb. Birb: First of all, ouch. Wednesday, not at all defending them: They're also considered an omen of death in many cultures. Yoko: Fair point, but owls are actually relatively empty-headed and clumsy for birds. Birb: Again, ouch. Enid: You remind me more of an eagle or a hawk, personally. Birb, cutting in too soon: Thank you. Enid: Majestic from a distance, but a little clumsier once you get to know them. Birb:... Alright, Divina, Eugene, either one of you says something nice right now or I'm kicking you off the Minecraft server. Divina, who is not even on said server, without hesitation. Blue-footed booby.
The table (mostly) erupts in laughter.
Eugene, once things quiet down a little: You remind me of a hummingbird. they work with bees, and they're always rushing around, like they've had too much coffee. Birb: it's official, you're my favorite. no one else was nice enough. Enid, being nosy: So, Wednesday, what bird would you compare them to? Wednesday, deadpanning: Pigeon. All over the place, constantly leaving a mess. Birb: :( (Wednesday, internally: The distinction between Pigeons and Doves is not consistent, and exists almost exclusively in English. They were used as messenger birds for thousands of years throughout many cultures, only to be mostly abandoned and referred to as pests by the same cultures that once called them holy. My mother says I am a raven, and that psychics with positive visions are doves. In this case... you are sickeningly sweet, despite your suffering. Hopeful.)
Later, Birb is chilling with Ajax and Kent, and brings up the earlier question. They're probably a little high, if we're being honest. Ajax: uh................ probably a sparrow. Birb: huh. why? Ajax: they're my favorite kind of bird, and you're my favorite birb Birb: bro. bro that was so sweet. what about you, Kent? Kent thinks about it for several seconds before saying: blue-footed booby. Ajax: because they're called boobies? Kent: yeah. it's a cool name.
-signed, your friendly neighborhood crow
STOP that's exactly how they all act, you nailed them perfectly. Like, they each have their own ideas of what Birb is, and they're all right in their own way. And Birb is OFFENDED each and every time (they secretly love it) and SWEET LITTLE EUGENE is the platonic love of Birb's life
Plus their boys? Love, bless their little hearts. And Kent and Divina having the same answers? Poetic

April end of month post 1 of 4: Ten of my favourite bird photos I took this month and full summary of my month
For this month’s end of month post, as it has been one of the best and most prolific bird and wildlife watching and photography months I’ve ever had, I am doing four posts each with ten of my favourite pictures I took of different (in places) grouped subject types so that I keep the link to the month’s number and am sharing forty of my favourite photos from the month. I pre-wrote the month summary text so wanted to keep that all together, so this is below and refers to every aspect of my hobby this month and my next three posts shall have the other thirty pictures.
The bird pictures in this post are of; Slavonian Grebe on the Scotland trip, Lapwing at Lochindorb, Long-tailed Duck at Burghead Harbour in Moray, Hooded Crow on Mull, Tree Sparrow and Yellowhammer at RSPB Loch of Strathbeg in Aberdeenshire, Greylag Goose goslings and Woodpigeon at Lakeside Country Park, Hampshire, Little Owl at Portland in Dorset and Whimbrel at Pennington in Hampshire.
April 2023 has been one of the best months of my life. That is of course mostly down to the fact that we returned to Scotland going on the Heatherlea Spring Into Scotland birding tour of the Highlands, Mull, Moray and Aberdeenshire. It was one of the greatest experiences of my life as we saw a very long list of phenomenal and many iconic birds and mammals and other flora and fauna, took in some of the most breathtaking views I’d ever seen of the rugged and high mountainous landscape with vast forest, splendid lochs and charging rivers with the coast enjoyed a lot too. From our first ever wild Otters seen to summer plumage Slavonian Grebes there were so many precious and marvellous natural sights we had never seen before and dreams came true when we saw them. We just really felt in our element and made the most of being out in wilderness and wild wonderland. There was some amazing birdwatching for us in the rest of the month too with alongside our first ever White-billed Divers on the Moray coast two more new birds at home in Black-crowned Night Heron at Stockbridge Common Marsh and Cirl Bunting at Portland. There were many other great species seen this month with us really cruising into spring and I loved seeing birds in their breeding seasons again this month headlined by goslings and ducklings I saw at Lakeside Country Park and in Winchester.
My bird year list after April is in an incredible place, I am already into the 190s with thirty four year ticks thus far this month my highest amount of year ticks in an April ever which is so unprecedented and thrilling for me. Only four of my previous year lists finished on a higher amount than what I’m currently on and of course I’m miles ahead of where I was on this date in previous years. Other of my standout birds seen this month were Osprey, Golden Eagle, White-tailed Eagle, Merlin, Black-throated Diver, Red-throated Diver, Great Northern Diver, Dipper, Corn Bunting, Tree Sparrow, Swallow, Sand Martin, Sedge Warbler, Blackcap, Cetti’s Warbler, Whitethroat, Whimbrel, Peregrine Falcon, Mediterranean Gull and Little Owl.
Of course Mountain Hare, Bottlenose Dolphin, Red Deer and others alongside Otters on the Scotland trip made it perhaps my best ever month of seeing mammals, making my mammal year list this year my highest ever already. As expected for April it was very much a butterfly awakening with brilliant time spent seeing more of the first few species in a year especially on strong sunny days. Orange Tip, Speckled Wood and Brimstone were key species seen as these flamboyant insects gripped me a lot. It was a big month of flowers for me too, from marsh marigold to cuckooflower I enjoyed seeing a lot more species in bloom. Scenes of blossom turning to ripe green leaves was a major feature of my observing and photographing of the landscape this month. I also enjoyed beetles, spiders and fungi this month. I was pleased to take a huge amount of photos this month with many varied ones I’m pleased with. I hope you all have a nice May.

have you seen any cool critters recently? yesterday I saw a turtle in a creek! and a chipmunk while on a walk. :•]
I haven't seen any lately- other than crows which are always cool. But I have seen a lot of cool animals in the wild in my life. In undergrad my wife & I saw a wolverine!! It was by the densely wooded ravines at our school & it was walking by the trash compactor. No one believes us - but we looked it up & that's exactly what we saw! I've seen a jaguar walking like 20 feet from us in Mexico that was so scary & no one but my wife & I seemed concerned or interested. I've seen black bears, a mountain lion, deer, wild turkeys, raccoons, coyotes crossing the road. Oh! I saw a bald eagle just sitting on a stump on the side of the road it was huge.
We lived nomadically so I've also seen some cool animals like road runners, and baby wild boars (although I am deathly afraid of pigs/boars) iguanas, alligators, & humpback whales!! that cool. & tons of cool birds.

A Clash of Kings - 68 JON VIII (pages 850-861)
After giving it a good effort to escape pursuit, Jon and Qhorin find them selves surrounded, and under Qhorin's orders, Jon changes teams.
-
When night fell, the Halfhand had told Ebben to take the squire's garron as well as his own, and ride east for Mormont with all haste, back the way they had come. The rest of them would draw off the pursuit. "Send Jon," Ebben had urged. "He can ride as fast as me." "Jon has a different part to play." "He's half a boy still." "No," said Qhorin, "he's a man of the Night's Watch."
sorry, hang on... was Qhorin planning for Jon to go 'under cover' the whole time? Like that wasn't just a last minute plan after they'd been captured, he was actively planning for it as soon as they started their retreat, or since he let Ygritte go?
"Is your sword sharp, Jon Snow?" asked Qhorin Halfhalnd across the flickering fire. "My sword is Valyrian steel. The old Bear gave it to me."
Valyrian steel = 🥛
"We may escape the, yet," the ranger said. "Or not." ... "If we are taken, you must yield." "Yield?" He blinked in disbelief. The wildlings did not make captives of the men they called the crows. They killed them, except for... "They only spare oathbreakers. Those who join them, like Mance Rayder." "And you." "No." He shook his head. "Never. I won't." "You will. I command it of you."
Yeah, Qhorin has definitely had this Plan B brewing for a while now. I would love to be in his head right now, just to know, is it because he thinks this is Jon's best/only chance at survival, or because he wants a spy on the inside because this whole thing is so much bigger than the normal crow vs wildling stuff?
Also: kinda mean to give him this order right after having Jon recite his oath with him.
... darn it Qhorin, you're hitting right in the sweet spot of the vibes, I can't tell if it's one or the other re:motivation. Like, Qhorin could even be giving Jon this 'mission' just so Jon will agree to the effort to save his life. Cause, like, at the same time, I get that Qhorin has been keeping Jon for this as they fled, but it's equal amounts, "Jon's the only one that could get undercover/pull of the faux defection" and "Jon's the only one Qhorin can save."
Beyond, the walls pinched in sharply, and the stream led them to the foot of a tall twisting waterfall. The air was full of mist, like the breath of some vast cold beast. The tumbling waters shone silver in the moonlight. Jon looked about int dismay. There is no way out. He and Qhorin might be able to climb the cliffs, but not with the horses. he did not think they would last long on foot. "Quickly now," the Halfhand commanded. The big man on the small horse rode over the ice-slick stones, right into the curtain of water, and vanished. When he did not reappear, Jon put his heels into his horse and went after. His garron did his best to shy away. the falling water slapped at them with frozen fists, and the shock of the cold seemed to stop Jon's breath. Then he was through; drenched and shivering but through.
WATERFALL CAVE!!!!!!
Ahem, I'm fine. It is a Rule: if there is a waterfall in your narrative, there must be a cave behind it. I do not make the rules, but that ^ is one of my favourites.
... OMG this freaking bird! quick, someone, make a pun about twitter and followers, I'm sure this eagle has one in it somewhere.
On either wing, archers notched shafts to the strings of small wood-and-horn bows, but did not loose.
I notice he didn't say they drew either. Nice.
It will remain, to my dying day, a pet peeve when archers in movies draw and hold the full draw for several minutes at a time. Look, I'll let Elves get away with it, because mystical BS reasons, but humans? No, gtfo, you're breaking my suspension of disbelief. What am I upset about? I think I've mentioned before, even Olympic level archers can't hold a full draw on a bow for very long, I've seen one person claim they can hold a full draw for a minute or two, and on a composite bow with the pulley system holding the draw weight, yeah, maybe? But a non-composite bow? Bullshit you can go longer than 20 seconds if you aren't fully trained for it. And they are never composite bows in the movies (Except Hawkeye in the Avengers, i think?) it's always long and/or recurve! Also yes, draw weight can and will affect how long you can hold the full draw, but again: long and/or recurve bows, typically things that are supposed to be in the war bow range which have some of the heaviest draws! for several minutes a scene! If the prop bows didn't have the draw weight of a licorice strap, the extras would be so screwed.
Ahem, sorry, I think I'm done being oddly passionate about things now... yep, I'm good, let's move on.
Oh! Oh! It's happening!
Oh my gosh, Jon just suppressing his feels and doing his best. His acting right now... You're doing great sweetie. Qhorin's doing a damn good job of selling this too, he is not making it easy.
The ranger was leaning away, and for an instant it seemed that Jon's slash had not touched him. Then a string of red tears appeared across the big man's throat, bright as a ruby necklace, and the blood gushed out of him, and Qhorin Halfhand fell. (...) The light was already fading from Qhorin's eyes. "... sharp," he said, lifting his maimed fingers. Then his hand fell, and he was gone. He knew, he thought numbly. He knew what they would ask of me.
Yeah, and that's why he asked twice if the sword was sharp. A moment of silence for Qhorin Halfhand, he was a pretty alright fella.
...
Ruby = 🥛 I'm adding it because the word keeps popping up this book. (now watch it not show up again for the next few.)
I do not care for this Rattleshirt fella. He's kinda whiny, very quick to disavow Jon and Jon's win... or try to steal the credit.

🎁 and 🎥 for the ask meme
🎁if you had to give one of your fics as a birthday gift to someone which one would you give?
oh, man. I genuinely don't know? Most of my 6167 fics are like. Lowkey already dedicated to @himbeaux-on-ice, the current fic i'm writing is for @lurlur, and like. I give fics as gifts out like candy on halloween. Writing a thing *for* somebody is the best way to like, convince me to finish a thing.
Though, let's make this a bit harder: if I had to give one of my fics as a birthday gift to someone i know *in real life* and not someone I met through fandom first... technically i've already done this too. I gave a Ninej (six of crows) fic to one of my friends from college for their birthday in 2019....
The hard answer is that I'd give one of my eagle fanfics to my best friend from High School unprompted for her birthday bc she's the one who originally made me watch that movie & when i fell asleep (it was 4 am) made me watch it again and we realized it was so hella hella gay and changed the shading of my entire decade. @eeriedreams this one's for you. (bet you didn't expect her to have a tumblr, well joke's on you, all of my real life friends transcend into fandom) also hi sam, this is my hockey blog i love you.
🎥If you could make a movie/tv show for one of your fics which one would you chose?
a;lsdkfjals;dk this one is not hockey but i'll keep these crooked ways. it's the most episodic, it covers the most time, and it's the longest. also i just. Really want more canon throuples in television, you know? (chinhands) androids

Native American Wisdom:
10 Inspiring Quotes to Live By
Native Americans are the original inhabitants of the land that now constitutes the United States. They have a rich and diverse history, culture, and spirituality that have survived centuries of oppression and genocide. Their wisdom, which is often expressed in the form of proverbs, sayings, and quotes, reflects their deep connection to nature, their respect for life, and their values of harmony, balance, and generosity.
In this article, we will explore 10 of the best wisdom quotes from various Native American tribes and leaders, and how they can inspire us to live a more meaningful and fulfilling life.
1. "What is man without the beasts? If all the beasts were gone, men would die from great loneliness of spirit, for whatever happens to the beasts also happens to man." - Chief Si'ahl (Seattle), Suqwamish and Duwamish
This quote reminds us of the interdependence of all living beings on Earth, and the importance of protecting and respecting the natural environment. We are not separate from nature, but part of it. We share the same spirit with the animals, plants, and elements. If we harm them, we harm ourselves.
2. "You must speak straight so that your words may go as sunlight into our hearts." - Cochise, Chiricahua
This quote teaches us the value of honesty, clarity, and kindness in communication. We should speak with integrity and sincerity, without hiding or twisting our intentions. We should also speak with compassion and empathy, without hurting or offending others. Our words have the power to heal or harm, to enlighten or darken, to unite or divide. We should use them wisely.
3. "Where I am, I build my house; and where I build my house, all things come to it." - Osage proverb
This quote encourages us to be content and grateful for what we have, and to make the best of our situation. We should not be restless or dissatisfied with our circumstances, but rather embrace them as opportunities for growth and learning. We should also be open and welcoming to whatever life brings us, trusting that everything has a purpose and a place.
4. "So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart." - Tecumseh, Shawnee
This quote inspires us to live courageously and authentically, without letting fear hold us back from pursuing our dreams and passions. We should not be afraid of death, but rather see it as a natural and inevitable part of life. We should focus on living fully and joyfully in the present moment, making each day count.
5. "The Earth and myself are of one mind." - Chief Joseph (Hin-mah-too-yah-lat-kekt), Nez Perce
This quote expresses the deep spiritual bond between humans and the Earth, and the recognition of a higher intelligence that guides and governs all creation. We should not see ourselves as separate from or superior to the Earth, but rather as its children and caretakers. We should listen to its voice and follow its wisdom.
6. "Each one must learn for himself the highest wisdom. It cannot be taught in words." - Smowhala, Wanapum
This quote emphasizes the importance of personal experience and intuition in acquiring knowledge and understanding. We should not rely solely on external sources of information or authority, but rather seek our own truth within ourselves. We should also be humble and curious, knowing that there is always more to learn.
7. "Each man is good in His sight. It is not necessary for eagles to be crows." - Hunkesni (Sitting Bull), Hunkpapa Sioux
This quote celebrates the diversity and uniqueness of each individual, and the respect for different cultures and beliefs. We should not judge or compare ourselves or others based on superficial criteria, but rather appreciate the inherent worth and beauty of each person. We should also be proud of our own identity and heritage, without trying to conform or imitate others.
8. "Hold fast to the words of your ancestors." - Hopi proverb
This quote urges us to honor and preserve our ancestral traditions and wisdom, which are often passed down orally from generation to generation. We should not forget or neglect our roots, but rather cherish them as a source of guidance and inspiration. We should also learn from the mistakes and achievements of our forefathers, and strive to improve ourselves and our society.
9. "We will be known forever by the tracks we leave." - Dakota quote
This quote warns us of the consequences of our actions and choices, both for ourselves and for future generations. We should be mindful of how we live our lives, and what kind of legacy we want to leave behind. We should also be responsible and accountable for our impact on the world, and try to make it a better place.
10. "Those who have one foot in the canoe and one foot in the boat are going to fall in the river." - Tuscarora proverb
This quote advises us to be decisive and committed in our endeavors, and not to be distracted or divided by conflicting interests or influences. We should not try to please everyone or do everything, but rather focus on what matters most to us and what aligns with our values and goals. We should also be consistent and loyal in our relationships, and not betray or abandon those who trust and support us.
---
These are just some of the many wisdom quotes from Native American cultures that can enrich our lives and perspectives. By learning from their insights and experiences, we can gain a deeper appreciation of ourselves, others, and the world around us. We can also honor their legacy and contribution to humanity, and help preserve their culture and spirit.

Echo of Flight
I often think of the birds that roam the sky. The defiers of gravity’s stubborn demands.
The clever crows. Tiny, tweeting sparrows. Quick and slender swifts. Careless pigeons trotting by. Keen and slender cranes by the water. Silly looking crab-plowers and terns. Seagulls that curse like a sailor. Mynas that fight for their fair share. Shimmering kingfishers. Sweet-sounding songbirds. Parrots with their lipstick-red beaks. Intimidating eagles and falcons,  graceful in flight. Vultures with their heads low, tending to the dead. I think of them all.
But there are two, in particular, I can never forget: a pair of red-vented bulbuls.
Outside the house I grew up in, there was a tree that was older than me, older than my parents’ marriage. Every morning, when the sun peeked to catch a glimpse of the moon, on the blank canvas of the world against the audible landscape, a burst of bright, vivid birdsong colored the universe, awakening every being. A lot many years later, however, we heard a subtle difference in the morning songs. An addition.
Two new voices. Two new sounds. A harmonious duet.
After a great many laborious days of trying to find the owners of that sound, one fine day, on the brink of early spring when the earth began to blossom, we finally did. To our delight, we found a pair of bulbuls making their nest in the bushiest part of the tree, in its very heart. They had black spiked heads and a very bright red, almost vermillion, patch on the bottom of their brown tail, towards the base of their greyish-white belly.
My mother told me that the female was about to lay eggs. And she was right.
In a month, there were three new hungry sounds. A while later, the parents took their little birds on their first flight. We watched them as they fell down. We watched the parents offer them fat worms that wiggled in its beak when they got it right and how that influenced them to fly better. And they did. They soared and conquered the skies and we, along with their parents, watched with pride. I have never before been so invested in the lives of birds, not to this extent.
The years ticked away, like hands on a clock. The vermillion under their tails dulled with each year. Every year, the pair laid eggs, fed their babies, taught them how to fly, and then let them go. Through all this, the pair always returned to the tree. It was their home. It was the nest of many. The tree from which generations branched out, their family tree.
Though they would disappear seasonally, every morning, I was always greeted with the familiar two sounds. It was like a conversation. One of them would begin, the other would answer its call, and so it went on. One note after another; like learning to walk, one step in front of the other; like learning to soar.
Like a word after another forming a sentence; a sentence without an end.
A question and an affirmation:
Are you here?
I am here.
Where are you?
With you.
Always?
Always.
A song. A continuity till eternity.
I don't know if bulbuls are monogamous or if they mate for life, but they surely seemed to be. And I don't know if birds can be in love, or feel love at all. I don't think they're supposed to. But I'm sure they did.
Every morning they would take flight together and finish each other's sentences. When their wings grew weary, their lungs gave out and their stomachs full, they would come and rest on our tree, on their tree. They seemed more in love with the world and with each other than anyone I knew. They seemed to know more about love than I do.
They reappeared every year. Every now and then. Always together.
Somewhere in between, they were gone for too long. Perhaps they had found a better place. Perhaps they had found a better tree to reside in. Maybe they had new kids, I don't know. But I thought of them, often.
And then one day, on the cusp of late spring, just before the earth undressed, a familiar sound perched on my window sill in the luminous dark; in the short, secret space between night and morning. Right when the moon gazed longingly at the sun, and the sun greeted the moon with goodbye, that's when I was greeted with the first note: Are you here?
A pause.
The first note again for the second time.
A pause.
Desperately, the first note again for the third time.
A pause.
Nothing.
No reply.
A call into the void, there was no one to reply, no one to echo. Just a lone voice barely bouncing off of the too-far-away walls of the world. Maybe this is the price for loving, the price for a lifetime of companionship and intimacy.
My heart sank.
I wonder if it knew. I wonder if it knew it would never hear a call back. I wonder if it knew its sentence had been punctuated. Its call now sounded like the last strings plucked on the guitar, the last lone sustained notes of a song. The end of a song that tries to persist but fails to because all things, all good things, must come to an end. This is the way it is, the way everything was, is, and will be. So it lingers, like a ghost, like reminiscence.
It came to the tree, revisited it every day. It called out for its other half every morning. It searched all morning until dusk when the sun professes its love for the moon in a spectacle of a display, its daily last ribbons of goodbye.
The world doesn't wait for the sun to meet the moon, it doesn't wait for a lonely bird that does not mourn the loss of its mate because it is still searching, desperately, frantically.
Maybe it knows. Maybe it is aware it will never find what it is looking for, just like the sun and the moon. Though they can never exist together, their every movement is for each other. Though they exist worlds away from each other, their very existence is in hopes, is an attempt, to catch the slightest glimpse of each other. And they wait patiently in their solitude, waiting, hoping, for an eclipse, desperately, frantically, quietly.
Maybe hope is the price for a bond forged. So we search and wait, desperately, frantically, like the bird, like the sun and the moon. Maybe that is the testament for love, for intimacy, for companionship. To wait and be important enough to be waited for. To hope, despite and regardless, of the odds being stacked against.
In the evening when its wings turned heavy and its lungs had given out, it came back and perched upon the leafless tree, their family tree. And it called out:
Are you here?
At some point, its call diminished, like a flame in the wind, until it was stifled out and only its embers remained, smoldering; the smoke being the only reminder that the fire once existed.
What happened next, I do not know. I try to not think of it. But I hope when it did happen, it happened softly, tenderly, while it was asleep in its nest. I hope the ghost of the other greeted it in its eternal dream with the song only it would sing, to the song only it would respond to.
I'd like to think they still fly around in invisible realms until their wings are heavy and then they come and rest in the heart of their tree, that they still sing in frequencies I can’t hear.
Are you here?
I am here.
Where are you?
With you.
Always?
Always.
A song. A continuity till eternity.

The other day my crows were annoying me SO much I actually packed it up and went inside.
I was sitting w the cats on the patio (they get supervised outside time in their tent or on a harness only) and usually we sit out there for a few hours while I do whatever. The crows are usually not around this time of day, they forage elsewhere (I feed & observe them too, hence "my" crows, for anyone who's new).
No. Not today. These corvids were HOME and they were NOT having it. Whatever "it" was. It was... Hard to tell at first.
Crows are uh, discordant by nature, but there's actually a lot of rhyme & reason to it. When you watch them every day you kinda learn their quirks and signals, even their voices and speech patterns. but this day was different. something VERY OUTRAGEOUS was going down and they just would NOT shut the FUCK up about it. none of them. 2 juveniles came screaming into the yard, an adult came and also started screaming, then left with one of the juveniles.
The other stayed in our yard and squaked- I shit you not- for FORTY. GODDAMN. MINUTES. WITHOUT. PAUSE.
At first I was like "what in the FUCK is his problem?! Does he just hate US? How does he not pass out?" and considering that, as soon as I went inside w the cats, he abandoned his post... Yeah, it kinda seemed like maybe they just wanted the yard! Like fine. Sure. We are the problem, I agree. You're a wild animal, you live here, too. I get it! I'll go. Nbd!!! Jesus!!!
I was so fucking wrong. That was not their problem.
So they keep this up for the rest of the day. He left our yard, but no joke, at all points you can hear a crow losing it's whole mind somewhere in the neighborhood, long after we went inside. This started around midday and continued until we were outside eating dinner at around 5/6pm.
That was when EVERY. SINGLE. CROW. IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD. APPEARED. AND STARTED SCREAMING IN UNISON.
We actually were like "......😳" like what do you even do when there's literally 50-100 crows just fucking screaming. This is highly unusual. Do you just... go inside?? Is that a portent of some kind? Like... We couldn't even have a conversation. (Also crows are bigger than you probably think. Have you ever seen one up close? No? It's a big ass bird, js. Having that many around suddenly is... Weird.)
But we were VERY curious what their fucking problem was.
So we watched.
And within about 10 minutes of The Screamening, we saw a huge faction of crows split off and take off screaming at top speed,
CHASING A WHOLE HAWK OUT OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD!!!!!!!!!
Once it was gone they immediately calmed down and went back to their normal, quieter behaviors (even doing the crooning and little croaks/trills that they only do when they feel safe & comfortable). They were VERY pleased w their work and I
CRY!!!!!!!!!
I cry.
I thought the crow was trying to pick on my cats and HE WAS TELLING ME TO TAKE THEM INSIDE BECAUSE MY DUMB ASS DIDNT SEE THE FUCKING HAWK.
Im an IDIOT FUCKING HUMAN so it took me for ever to put together that they were just trying to protect their yard and we happened to be in the safety zone. I feed them and give them water and they know me, so they gave me a warning shout!!!!!! And he was SO DEDICATED like he really did not give up until he saw us go inside. Babie :'( I was making fun of him bc I was frustrated too, I am such an ass hole wtf
Where would we even be as a species without our animal friends and neighbors!!!! 😭😭 8 steps back in the evolutionary process undoubtedly!!!!! Fuck!!!!!!! Thank you for my life you funky little goth dinosaurs. What the fuck.
One man vs a redtailed hawk = holy shit have u seen those things. they're in a size class w bald eagles. godspeed adjusting to ur new prosthetic eyes
100 angry crows vs a hawk = haha oh shit you better fly faster 🤪 you fucked up!!!
Anyway. Wow. I'm gonna leave those crows some bacon today. It's a bit belated bc it took me 3 days to realize how the whole ordeal was connected but man they do such important work in this community. they might leave guts in the birdbath but they are some of the best neighbors I've ever had <3
